bone lab was probably one of the most hyped VR games of all time and while initial Impressions were promising the unrefined SDK and lack of proper modic support left the community deflated but this is all about to change with more regular updates from Brandon on the future of bone lab and the overhaul to the Bone lab SDK and in this video we'll go over everything this next version of bone lab will have to offer but that's not everything from a new AMA from bos talking about the future of VR a Windows emulator that runs natively on quest to some surprising news about the Pico 4S strap in for this week's worth of VR news before we talk about bone lab I just want to show you this so as it turns out we are getting a Ready Player 1 sequel called Ready Player 2 and I'm expecting this to be the same as the second book which will be a bit chaotic but more importantly a new game based on what they are calling the ready verse got announced a few days ago and the game is called open the game is being made in Unreal Engine 5 and is actually being developed by a publisher that was partially founded by Ernest Klein the author of Ready Player One in respects to VR not much information is given but it will be criminal not to release this on a VR platform considering the books are about VR I'll leave a link in the description for those who want to check it out but on to Bone lab I think we can all agree bone lab was overhyped and undersold while the entire game's campaign did launch as promised there was a significant portion of the game missing in and that was the modding support just to give a little context the reason why this was so hyped in the first place was the potential of what it could have been with a proper SDK anything would have been possible if you take a look at halflife Alex for example you can quite literally play several games within halflife Alex whether that's John Wick or even a BioShock game and these are seriously incredible experiences to the point they are pretty much Standalone VR games and that is what bone lab was supposed to be and the silence over the past year and a half basically LED people to the conclusion that the game had been abandoned but this is no longer the case we Now understand where the devs are at and what's to come and that's thanks to more regular updates and posts from Brandon on what they've been working on last year they released an anniversary post basically stating what they're working on and teased a refined SDK was on the way and long-term plans to continue working on the game and keep optimizing bone lab to deliver the game that was promised they clearly initially had planned to release this update sooner as per this expost by Brandon it's clear they decided to delay the launch to give a more refined release and not leave the community disappointed again Brandon's more recent post gives us an insight into what to expect when this patch does come to start we finally get a look at the SDK we will get access to and this will be the exact same tools used to build bone lab in the first place just some features to expect based on this is more advanced customizable NPCs enhanced native level design with potential for train modification interactive and editable physics and advanced custom animations and scripting with a proper SDK you could quite literally create anything within the bone lab framework and this is where the hype all started there was also a post showing that you can directly link up mod.io to your PC account which means you don't have to plug into a PC once set up and this means we will have access to all mods natively from within the headset which again will be a game Cher and lastly with this most recent post he talks about maro's new physics coloring system and how it will be available in the SDK and Patch 4 this alone will dramatically increase performance by keeping physics calculations at a minimum as it will be split into zones this by the looks of it will allow for persistence which allows for a huge amount of possibilities that you think extraction suitors have persistence which is a key element for immersion the only question left is when will this patch release Brandon is talking about patch 4 as if it's close and the fact this was supposed to be released last year tells me it can't be far away but I'd save expectations so we are not disappointed the only thing to be excited for at the moment is the potential but now onto something surprising and that's the new Pico headset a few months ago we talked about a few new potential Pico headsets and while the specs were incredible What followed were Financial cutbacks that left the future of Pico in his state of limbo but I think one thing we can all agree is that Pico basically mirrors what meta are doing I think now it's public knowledge that this year will be the release of the quest light which BOS hints at in his latest AMA and Pico according to a round of leaks also has plans to release a light version dubbed the Pico 4S as per the upload VR report a few leaks of the ringless controllers were leaked online and they all have the tag 4S it's also reported that the Pico 4S will include the same Snapdragon xr2 Gen 2 chip as the quest 3 it's unclear what other features this headset will include clude as the plan after the cancellation of the Pico 5 was to focus more heavily on a higher-end headset to compete with Apple so the 4S is kind of a surprise but that does leave a question will the Pico 4S follow the same approach as meta in regards to mixed reality or whether they continue with more of a VR Focus headset or follow the same path as meta but what's interesting in regards to bz's view on mixed Reality by the looks it BOS sees mixed reality as the new Baseline in a recent statement he mentions this but I do think now we have mixed reality and the hands we have kind of a much stronger sense of what the base platform is going to be not just for this headset but for several generations of headsets to come now in regards to a quest light this does confuse things slightly as where they're going to cut cost if it does include pass through but onto the AMA more specifically as always BOS usually hints at different things to come and he does address the issue with lack of lying D mode for the quest 3 and and that it is coming but more importantly he talks about the upcoming UI they are working on and I'll play the clip now I don't want to give all the details away we got to keep some surprises uh some things to announce some things to get people excited um but I'll tell you right now a good example of this is just now that you have mixed reality you know people's um how people want to interact with panels has changed a bunch and so you've got um a really fun idea which I think is the right idea which is like a personal UI um the UI that you take with you everywhere you go that's maybe even tethered to your body or to your head um in terms of of As you move around um and then you also want to have stationary UI you want to have this UI that's out in space that stays World locked wherever you've put it we have versions of these today with the panels um but I think the fluidity of how you interact between those two things is an area of tremendous opportunity uh to make things feel really comfortable and clear to me a personal UI makes perfect sense to have menus or notifications attached to you seems relatively simple as it would be your own personal heads up to play and I'm not entirely sure why they've taken so long to implement it one thing I would like though is for something like this to followed me through all games and experiences and I think the key to building the metaverse is to have one consistent experience so all games have the same operating systems controls and avatars are consistent across games if you want to watch the whole AMA I'll leave a link in the description but lastly on to something called wind lator this crazy emulator allows you to essentially emulate windows and play Windows game using your head movements as Mouse movements it looks a little trippy but it's cool to see games like nether Speed Underground 2 running natively on Quest I think now that Quest is becoming more powerful all sorts of experiences are becoming possible me personally can't wait for the day emu VR is natively available on Quest and to give meta credit it does drill down on the fact that Quest is a partially open system I hope you all enjoyed today's video like And subscribe if you did and as always I'll catch you on the next one
