let us up Lake City family it is Bobby and art and back at the grocery store because it is back-to-school season and I have been getting a ton of requests to do a healthy back to school haul video and I get it right there's a lot of junk here at the grocery store and you want to know what to send your kid to school with that'll be a healthy help them focus more sustain their hunger throughout the day and not make their blood sugar spike and make them go crazy so this video is gonna be epic because it's so big we're gonna break it into two videos over the course of two different grocery stores we're gonna start at Walmart check out everything good here go to Whole Foods check out everything good over there and tell you most importantly what to buy what to avoid and why it's gonna be the best most thorough back to school haul ever before we do that you're gonna want to go ahead and click that subscribe button because every week we are rocking three videos now on my channel my friends two videos on the weekends those are at the grocery store telling you what to buy what to avoid and why and a live stream cooking demo during the week better yet there's a bell icon right below the video push that bell and enable all notifications because these live streams are super fun we're making a recipe from start to finish and you do not want to miss out protein and energy bars were a huge request on Instagram let's just start with the best in class right here and that would be the lower bars these are fantastic because like the ingredients say unlike some of the other ones I'll show you in a second it's just six ingredients we look at the ingredients here super clean right it's just what they say is in here there's no natural flavorings there's no added sugar there's no nasty preservatives now that being said one bar does have 16 to 18 grams of sugar but it's all natural sugar and I'm okay with that because if I go to another very misleading bar rx bar now I am on the record and I can hate myself for it on a Costco snack video for saying I love these buy them the Bobby approved I got fooled because they're you know enticing lingo here where it says no BS is actually BS it's total BS because we look at the ingredients every single flavor has natural flavorings here which totally bugs me because it's beat on misleading so even these and the rx bars for kids once again have the dreaded natural flavorings this is more important than ever because we're talking about kids here we're talking about young kids in the formative years or their lives we don't want to be giving them ingredient like natural flavorings cuz we don't know what it's gonna do with their body and spoiler alert it's not gonna be anything good it's all all chemicals we'll talk about that more you know exactly what natural flavorings are but I cannot endorse the RX Mars then we go to the Z bar I got lots of questions about that which is the Clif Bar for kids dreaded natural flavorings that's the only bad ingredient so unfortunately I can't endorse that one Clif Bar same thing kind bar is interesting because it's not too bad but it has the dreaded palm kernel oil in here palm oil is a cheap oil that is not good for you it's not good for the environment so I would not get these but that being said it might be a little bit better than Clif bars but I would really go for the Larabars um anything from Nature Valley is out because it has corn syrup as high fructose corn syrup it has added preservatives and natural flavoring so best in class for these bars right here is by far Larimar there are some other really cool bars at Whole Foods which I'll talk about when we go there next all right my friends I'm not sure if kids actually eat beef jerky they do okay what that is the case then there's only one in this wall or jerky here that I actually recommend and we talked about it last week in the all the video it is built on what is built on think of biltong is the OG beef jerky because they don't use any preservatives added sugars or nasty chemicals or oils to actually preserve the meat look at the ingredients it's just a few things super clean no added sugar it's a ketose snack which is fantastic did you compare that to the ingredients have any other jerky on the market I mean look at this you guys brown sugar natural flavoring hydrolyzed soy lots of terrible ingredients here so biltong is where it's at and then I spy some other interesting things out of the corner of my eye here all right we talked about this in the Costco snack haul video don't give your kids veggie straws because spoiler alert there's no veggies in here guys look at the ingredients it's all filler no thriller look at this potato starch potato flour corn start then you get some spinach powder some beet powder it's fried a nasty canola oil safflower oil this is ridiculous we're giving kids starchy fillers that's gonna spike their blood pressure get them may be closer to diabetes make them super hyperactive and you guys when it says safflower or canola oil red alert city because that means it's a highly processed oil wash my Costco oils video oils like this are highly processed highly refined at high heat levels and they use a chemical called hexane to extract the actual oil from the plant you need to see expeller pressed oil or something like avvocato oil or extra virgin olive oil so these are really bad and then I wouldn't even recommend something like skinny pop here even though it has a bright shiny label they're using sunflower oil once again it's not expeller pressed sunflower oil so I would not recommend that same thing with boom chicka pop it's a sweeter like kettle corn but they're using sunflower oil there is one elect us out look at the label on this I love I love labels like this smart food delights it's usually like a red flag when something is that witty right but see the ingredients expel their press sunflower oil so this is a yay skinny pop is in May and then we have a lot of chips here first if you want like the best-in-class tortilla chip here at Walmart it's this guy it's on the mortar organic blue corn tortilla chips always go organic or non-gmo corn because corn and soy are the most heavily Roundup a Monsanto Ready seeds on the market so when it's organic that's really good and once again what kind of oil are they frying these in expeller press sunflower oil super super good but stay away from the one where it starts to get flavored Plus like any flavorings are going to start to have a lot of preservatives so these should be in lime tagine trying it in cottonseed and soybean oil you rarely see cottonseed oil in the grocery store it's not a cheapest most highly processed oil ever stay away from that has a ton of chemicals in there and then I am sorry to say that there really is right on this wall of potato chips here no potato chip that is really good but when we go to Whole Foods I will show you a couple potato chips are tough because either they're using really bad oil or non-organic potatoes on you want to buy organic potatoes because they're growing on the ground and soak up the pesticides so I think that's it for this aisle let's go to the next one I really wanted to grab these and be super happy with the ingredients and I know they're popular and I know a lot of parents out there think these are healthier but look at the ingredients you guys it starts with basically three different kinds of sugars that are have tapioca syrup cane sugar and tapioca syrup solids more important then we get to the bottom what kind of oil are they using sunflower oil does it say expeller press No then it has natural flavorings such a bummer I don't want to give kids in their formative years natural flavoring Oh Waldo we're getting very close to the cash register by the way so there's a lot of employees down there so this is the danger zone so maybe we'll find something better at Whole Foods I don't know but this is unfortunately a no snack pack I know Art's thinking at the same time let's say it on three art one two three Madison yeah I don't know Bobby I think I found my snacks for this school year yeah this one you guys this really likes a fire under my butt hummus here okay look I'm really like angry today it's because we're this is hitting close to home right these are snack foods for our kids our kids bodies are very vulnerable and susceptible we want to give them the best possible quality ingredients speaking of ingredients hummus hummus is so popular and I am devastated to learn what kind of oils they're putting in these hummuses Sabra a very popular brand the flavor is fantastic the texture is fantastic I don't know where you come from right but hummus is supposed to be made with either olive oil or extra virgin olive oil go to the Middle East it's very good quality oils you guys they're using the cheapest quality oil here ever look at this soybean oil is it non-gmo yes thank God right but it's highly processed and highly refined the thing is why you always want to look for expel their pressed oils is because they're not highly processed and highly refined with chemicals and high heat when you high heat process on the plant to extract the oil you can actually alter the fatty acid chain but when you expel the press it it's just like a clamp like a big press creating pressure why don't manufacturers like this like to use expeller pressed it's not efficient it comes down to money once again right you only get about 85% of the oil out of the plant when you expel their press it profits or profits let's get a hundred percent of that oil out of that plan well how do we do it with chemicals in high heat so they're using soybean or for this Cedar's here is using sunflower oil it's not expeller pressed I mean I can't find one hummus here that doesn't use really really low quality oils I think there is one at Whole Foods later on there's a brand called hope foods hummus that uses extra virgin olive oil the way it should be I'm if you know of other hummus brands leave a comment down below I think the state the state of the union is very bad for hummus right now and if you elect me as the the mayor of the Walmart I'll fix it now I couldn't do a back-to-school snack video without promoting our new Kido meal prepping book because there's a whole chapter dedicated to snacks called snack attack you guys on page 153 you and your kids are gonna love these recipes there's cheesy cauliflower tots everything keto crackers cheddar Bay Red Lobster biscuits keto fat bread there's even cloud bread and almond milk the best thing is it's not just for adults I get messages all the time that kids love the recipes in this book and you guys have given this such amazing reviews we have over 500 five-star reviews on Amazon so thank you to everyone who supported the book I'll put the amazon link down below big big things have happened because of this so thank you mama Chia this is a cool product I've normally seen it in drink form this is more of like just gonna say that mom idea but now they're making it as a vitality snack my only problem with mama Chia is that every one of these darn flavorings include natural flavor natural pineapple flavor natural strawberry flavor you guys you've talked about it so many times before but I'll do it again in case you're new to the channel natural flavors are not natural it's not a regulated term by the government the only rule when it comes to natural flavor is you have to start with something natural so a banana or a pineapple right as long as you start with that Waldo Han right now we're right by the employee entrance here we picked the best places to film right I'm so as long as you start with something natural you can add up to a hundred different chemicals to it so it's a total artificial flavor there's nothing natural about it and then the scientists who are developing these natural flavors isolate the best properties of the pineapple they pump it up even more so when you heat it your taste buds and your brain get excited you eat more and the biggest problem for me is that you eat more and the product usually has added sugar really bad fat and added salt so then we start having huge health problems so there's no reason to use natural flavors and I like I said it before it's one of the biggest problems here in the grocery store so I would avoid this one and then I'm really upset with Stonyfield because I have this organic kids yogurt pouch here but they're using natural flavorings which is a super bummer because Tony feels a really good brand this stuff right here Cleo Greek yogurt bars not good because she's using palm oil and natural flavoring so that's disappointing but right next to it is my one of my all-time best in classes protein bars send your kid to school with this the perfect bar literally is perfect the ingredients are amazing you guys they use extra virgin olive oil flax pumpkin seed it's a little high in sugar but that comes from organic honey but 198th is actually the best price it's just as low as Aldi so if you want the best kind of like protein bar or snack bar perfect bars we're at that and because I know you guys so well right now you're thinking to yourself Bobby what should I send my kid to school with in terms of yogurt luckily art not have a huge yogurt review video so go over there because a lot of these I'm talking 90 percent of these yogurts are your sugar filled desserts all right my friends I think we've hit every possible back-to-school snack here at Walmart let's head over to the Whole Foods and see what they have there you know for some reason bobbies are no hurry to get over to Whole Foods nothing says back-to-school better they have a big old jar of cheese balls and I guarantee ya Whole Foods is not gonna have that you are correct there alright let's get back to protein and energy bars because here at Whole Foods they have some really good ones this company right here epic we know them because they make the venison and the jerky that's super clean they also have energy bars in a huge Clay City fan Brad told me about this any single one of these flavors super clean and literally a handful of ingredients dates peanuts egg whites unsweetened chocolate sea salt these are fantastic right below a bulletproof the company who invented bulletproof coffee now has collagen protein bars so while our kids might not need the collagen because they're young as we get older we lose collagen and this is a great supplement to that super clean ingredients here this would be great also has MC T's in there so it helps with the brain and focus which is really good for school all this brand right here a hundred percent organic clean ingredients you don't see any of these fillers natural flavorings multiple Dexter and why cuz you don't have to put it in there these other guys are putting it in there and charging us the same money because they care about the money these guys don't everyone including big and small kids alike need their chocolate fix right but I'm a firm believer in limiting the amount of refined white sugar in kids diets it's not only responsible for a weight gain and diabetes but it's also really bad for your gut bacteria once again everything really goes back to your gut bacteria and sugar kills the good gut bacteria and promotes the bad ones which is why this brand Lily's sweetened chocolate with stevia and all-natural sweetener from South America is fantastic because we look at this and the ingredients are super clean they swapped out cane sugar with stevia and it's actually a very low carb chocolate bar we calculate the cards by looking at total carbs of 22 - 12 grams of fiber is 10 - 6 grams of sugar alcohol or erythritol 4 grams per serving there's two servings in here eight grams some carbs in the entire bar with barely any sugar at all this is what kids and adults should be eating when it comes to chocolate I promise to show you guys the good oatmeal here and the only one I'd really do the Bobby approval for here is Bob's the OG gotta love Bob the organic oatmeal once again organic is where it's at we look at the ingredients no natural flavors very clean even something like the organic 365 brand it has natural flavors in here so this is the only one I would get because it's got to be organic it's got to be natural flavoring three and Bob the og is where it's at now we come over here all the selling a lot more granola bar options a lot more snack options super happy to see this right I wasn't sure we'd find some kind of like fruit tape fruit roll-up right here amazing packaging yo-yo the bear he's making really good fruit and wraps here we look at this this is what you want to see ingredients apples pears sneaking some espero Lena in there I'm down with that little Timmy won't even know he's getting seaweed extract that's a superfood make them strong like bull I like that apples pears strawberries a little bit of carrot extract YUM total Bobby approval same thing with let's see wild made we look here all fruit this is a chicago-based brand if you can get this one of the best granola bars ever if you have allergies intolerances its paleo so there's no grains in here they're using coconut oil vanilla sunflower seeds this brand is fantastic kitsch fix in Chicago I want to like this brand they do make a granola at Costco in like a snack pack bag mix it's really good and everything in here is super good but they do put natural vanilla flavor in every single one of their bars so it's not ideal but it's way better than kind and stuff like that even this Cascadian farm which i love for their cereal they put natural flavorings in here too so we can do better speaking of cereal look art there is a wall of cereal here and you might be thinking Bobby can you please review cereals and let me know what I can feed my little kitties for breakfast well art what should they do in that case it should check out the place it E YouTube wall that's right we have the cereal review did the most epic cereal haul ever and there are a handful of really good cereals that your kiddies can eat let's talk snacks right here this is a really cool brand right here saffron road they're crunchy chick peas chick peas are a great source of fiber and protein and I love the fact that it's organic because chickpeas are legumes and they can be very susceptible to pesticides and I always say buy organic legumes just read the back of the label because number one they're using expeller pressed canola oil here love the fact that it's feather pressed careful when you start going to flavors like falafel it says right here that it has multi dextran in there maltodextrin is one of the Bobby watch out ingredients for because it is a preservative that makes food more chefs table and makes things also creamier that's also really bad for your stomach bacteria and it can be wreak havoc on stomach and intestines are very sensitive tummies and also when you start going to a Korean barbecue flavor that's when you think how can they get those kind of flavors in here well natural flavorings that's why so I would stick to the basic one here of sea salt or if you want the flavor the one just to read and make sure it doesn't have it a pretty cool product up here that I love hate dang sticky rice crisps I love the fact that they're using watermelon juice in here in coconut milk but every single one of these uses palm fruit oil so that's a major bummer so I pass on that but look right next to it this is great a great way to get your crunch on here is coconut chips and for the caramel sea salt flavor I was shocked they're not using any natural flavoring they're using sea salt and coconut sugar so that's a way to do it proper that's great for the kids to kind of crunch on and a coconut is a good form of saturated fat and then we look what else we got here oh so check this out we talked earlier at Walmart about like veggie straws this would actually be the healthier version I'm gonna tell you why I'm gonna grab the 365 brand instead of this brand because this brand here if we turn it around uses processed canola oil totally unacceptable but the 365 Whole Foods brand look at that using expeller pressed sunflower oil and this is a much healthier version than the one we saw over at Walmart let's take a look at the dried seaweed snack made quite possibly the healthiest snack in the whole grocery store but art did you have this in your snack pack as a kid no sir right so I mean you let me know if your kids like this the thing is I mean I love it right it's super super high-quality organic seaweed has a ton of vitamins and nutrients but once again I'm careful with the flavoring because the cute little shark one here is just extra virgin olive oil and a seaweed I love the fact that they're using organic extra virgin props to them but once you start getting to the teriyaki one here maltodextrin the thing is look at this art art just calculated the price this one per pound is $90 the cute little shark one is over $100 per pound so when you start thinking about it like that it's a little scary but I just find it interesting that that's popular these days if you've ever heard these words from your child or seaweed please mom listen oh yeah I'm gonna meet that kid here's a great snack here it's just dried fruit look at the ingredients organic apples and cinnamon for this one plain for that I love that but once again we start adding up the price it's $2 per ounce it's actually $32 per pound but you can't make this at home this is freeze-dried so that's a fantastic option and there's some other good options here just read the label if it has natural flavorings or multo dextran or bad oil it's out all right family that is it back to school haul part 1 is done but we're not done right art we just did a ton more footage here at Whole Foods and at Walmart customer 2 part 2 is coming at you next week because there's so much stuff here at the grocery store we couldn't cram it into one video and we think it's important that you set a reminder and watch these videos because it's so important to know what goes in your kids bodies right don't just look at the labels on front read the ingredients on the back because once you understand that it's super duper easy share these videos you guys as you can see these videos are a ton of work to make and we almost be kicked out of the grocery store every single time I subscribe like share we got two more haul videos going below us right now but art and I will see you next week until then hashtag keep on cooking mad love and peace
