so welcome to it everybody so hopefully you enjoyed my little fun little video clip in the beginning they're having a little fun with a dial up always good times uh so for those of those that don't know what the heck that was so the internet you used to have to use your phone to dial into the internet and you couldn't be on your phone and the Internet can you imagine that right now if we you if we had that now you couldn't be on your phone and be on the internet at the same time crazy that's just dating myself now the beginning of the internet in the 90s so what we're gonna do here is based upon a lot of the feedback we've been getting from you guys as viewers I want to do a project based idea here so I want to take some things that I have been talking about and then put them in a full action here where across the streams that I'm going to do we're gonna do something in particular so I want to give you some a little idea here worm I'm trying to go with this and some inspiration for you all so I want to do obviously you can see I'm still in this heart this kick with a hard surface so I've always wanted to do this so we're gonna do this together and all and of course feel free for you all I challenge you during these these streams that we're gonna do with me here to build your own so I'm gonna do like a sci-fi ship that I've already started and I'm gonna show you guys the process how I started getting to where I'm at today but the inspiration for this idea is I want to do something like you're seeing here we're like little money and fall can you kind of have the ship but then there's exposed parts and then there's an interior and so I want to make this cargo ship that I started and kind of doing things like this where I'm gonna show you how I would do this in ZBrush especially the exposed part and do different things here I'm going to end up with this hopefully being ending with like a kind of like a poster that looks more like an owner's manual tech manual something like this that you can see what these are cool like I love these books actually I have a ton of art books that my wife to this day still says Wow you keep buying our books you don't open them and I said that's not true that is not true I do open them when I'm working on our projects okay okay so so this is my idea I kind of want to Duke my own design ship and then make it an essence have like some kind of little tech manual or like if you open a big poster you would have that ship there and it would show you all the parts of the ship and talk about it so I think even like this this is a great book I actually have this one and this is kind of where a lot of my ideas coming through so obviously this is from the force of weekend's Poe's x-wing but something a little bit like this I don't know if I'll go this crazy detailed because I'm just doing a cargo ship right now so there's it's meant to hold you know soldiers and some of the vehicles and things like that but these are some great inspirational ideas of where I'm going so I'm thinking see obviously something like this where you know you have the ship but then you have exposed and so you can get an idea of what's going inside how everything works together and then I'm gonna go further along with this so these are some other where some of these other inspirations have come for me is things obviously I'm a big Gundam fan so this is a great example of figuring out some interior pieces right they're great they do an amazing job of really doing unique things with the Gundams I really love it so these are just like different cockpits and getting to understanding how they would work right so obviously this what I'm about to make is gonna have a cockpit with a couple chairs and things like this I really like this kind of idea to where you're seeing you know like a portion of the exterior of the Gundam but then there's the interior as well what's going on Peter I'm feeling fine so this is just again I'm just trying to show like I love this one this is one of my favorite images this is one of my goals to with my Gundam is make it so I can start ripping apart and like the people are working on them so I love that that became a wave as well so this is where I'm going with this so I wanted to just give some context to my idea for this project and what I want to do so this is going to be a fun project and again I'm gonna be doing this across my streams okay for on the ZBrush live channel so I'm gonna start today by breaking down how I started making this design and in fact in all honesty this this ship what I've lost my pen where'd you go oh there it is backwards should go right here okay so and all honestly the original design idea for this only took me maybe 15-20 minutes so I want to show that idea in that workflow cuz this is one of the things that I think makes ZBrush really powerful for us is having the ability to just design really quickly and come up with an idea and then sometimes the shapes depict where I'm going with the ideas because I just start throwing things around so I definitely want to in this dream talk about the hurdles I did I personally found this to be very useful for me so I actually when I was building this I enlarged this bigger which all you have to do is just click and enlarge it another thing for this you can even import an image in the background of this as well so in your preferences again this is called the thumbnail so any in here you can do multiple things with this so you can even export the thumbnails if you want to you can magnify it you can silhouette it you can change the background okay but you can do a lot of different things with this so I kind of like working with this so and doing different things with this okay so this is now taking a snapshot so let me turn that off for now okay so let's just look at this right now and figure out this idea and what we're doing how are you doing so I'm just looking some questions hello Alex yeah so this is I think Andrews bringing up a good point right now on YouTube he's talking about he gets overwhelmed with all the details I think this is really important Ashley I think for when you're looking at something like I just share with hard-surface because there's just so much more going on honestly in a hard surface than an organic model right if we're making an organic human or creature there's only so much going on right unless I'm doing something where there's gonna have a bunch of armor or a bunch of sci-fi suit then there's a lot more going on the character right if I'm just doing a cool character you seen it may be a video game where it's a human it's just a human head and then some clothes right there's not necessarily always a lot going on but majority hard-surface there's a ton going on so I can't this is what I kinda want to show is my workflow of how I get around that in my head going wait there's so much going on how do I just narrow it down and click it down right so I must have missed your question you're deeming standard keeps going to the edge even resizing doesn't work what should I do I'm not following look what do you mean it keeps going to the edges if you can add more to your question I'm not sure what you're asking for the damian standard I think keeps going to an edge are you using it on like a high-res model are you trying to use it on something like some of these parts I have here where it's could be lower end parts that I have like this is just a zmodeler part right so I wouldn't use the demon standard on this so if you can elaborate your question a little bit more for me I can hopefully answer that for you okay so in essence let's look at the process here of what I'm going to do and where I'm going with this so I'll turn thumbnail back on and we'll turn this back on make this size again okay and you know we can have some fun with this if we want so I added an image to that right now so that's why you guys are seeing the other one right now I actually took the document and threw it in there for my preferences right so you can export again your thumbnails but I can resize things as well I can hold the shift key and magnify this as well okay I can click the Alt key all right and then take screenshots from ZBrush okay so there's multiple things you can do with this you can of course even change the coloring of all this if you want to as well so I'm just gonna stick with that silhouette for now okay and I'm gonna click here as a texture off so that we're just again looking at this okay so I found this very useful because what I'm going to do is just show you my process okay to do what I do so if you're damien brushes keep snapping to the corners that sounds like something where we're going to ask you a lot more questions so I would recommend going to support because the damien snap isn't just gonna snap the corners it's just a standard brush so like if I grab if you if you're saying so if you grab this sphere right now and I take this sphere and turn this into no mesh right so I turn it into a poly mesh that you're not able to do what I'm doing right here if you're not but it's gonna be more questions that I'm gonna need to ask because there's no reason why the Damon Steinberg would just snap two corners unless you've turned activated something on and that's why I'm saying there's gonna be a lot of questions that we're gonna need to ask double check your auto masking make sure you don't have like this slider on mass by poly grouping okay because that's a global slider that will make the demon standard the other thing I would recommend to do is this with every session as a brush or is it just with the one session cuz I know obviously I would recommend shutting ZBrush down opening back up because maybe you've activated something you don't know the other thing I would probably recommend doing is doing this reset all brushes and sees what's happens but I would need to be able to see exactly what's going on with you because the damien standard works fine across any computers and I'm on so I would try doing a reset all brushes would be the first thing I do maybe shut ZBrush down open it back up because maybe you turn something on you're not aware you turned it on but if let me know can you even do this just grab the sphere and work on this because if you can then it's probably then something with the mall all that you're working with there's something else then with the model which could be are you working on a model that's just all triangles and there's no actually no vertex right and only the vertex are available at certain points what I mean by that if I made a cube like this right there's only so many vertex that's here right so if you're maybe even importing a model that has a ton of geometry everywhere that also could be your problem because obviously the brush system works based upon where vertex goes so this is why it would snap to see the edging okay so maybe double check that two would be the other thing this I'm saying there's a lot of questions different about why you're having what you're having okay and then maybe as we go along here you might see something that triggers a reminder for you okay so back to this sci-fi ship so this is just gonna be a cargo ship I want it to be able to carry troops I wanted to be able to carry maybe some vehicles so that's why I have like this front pieces I'm gonna have it open up so that's why I thought it'd be fun to kind of not just make the ship itself but make some of the interiors and then expose some of those interiors so I want to go through my process and go through the hurdles of what I did so I'm gonna start making another one of these real fast and just go through what I'm thinking I want to do and going through the processes and what I I made happen okay so so I'm going to start with a cube okay this is what I started with and I was like okay I want to just start making some kind of cockpit shape all right I'm gonna turn perspective off I don't like perspective on what I'm doing a hard surface because I'm gonna use a lot of features that are camera plane dependent possibly or a lot of other things I'm going to do so I work with perspective off and a lot of cases I very rarely even have perspective on myself because I do a lot of things that I end up 3d printing so I don't want camera distortion so it works better for me because then when I'm making inside a ZBrush is a lot closer to what's gonna be in my hand physically and of course there is a focal length that we could you could find on the camera that would mimic the human eye I find it just easier for me stay out of perspective okay so this cube is very low I'm gonna hit this unify button just to make it bigger because it's also pretty small I'm gonna make everything one polygroup by controlled double Ewing and this is where I really like using dynamesh and this is really what dynamesh was coded for it was coated for designing and figuring things out and I'm not quite sure where I want to go okay so I just want to give myself a little bit of some density I don't want to get too crazy here so the first thing I like to personally do is I like to turn my blur off here to zero so in essence the blur is really like a smoothing algorithm that happens when you're reading a meshing so I'm gonna say you know I don't even want any of that I'm good okay and I'm gonna keep it at the default resolution 128 and I'm just gonna dynamesh so also for those of you feel free to either fall along here - with me or feel free think about how you design your own ship whatever you want to do that's kind of what I want to happen here with my next set of streams here I want us to build things together would be fun so now I have this mesh that has some density to it right so I'm gonna throw symmetry on because I'm gonna make some kind of symmetrical cockpit alright and then for me I started just working with the these brushes which is our clip brushes or sliced brushes and our trim brushes so I like working with a clip brush real fast just start getting some planes in here to figure some things out and it's also because it's symmetrical so as I clip on the one side it's gonna clip the other side and then this is what I like about this process that I'm about to show you again like we started very for someone brought up it's so complicated and hard to look at something hard surface because there's so much going on and what I want you guys to really focus on and this is kind of why I like using this window is I'm just really looking at that window a lot and there's thinking about the silhouette shapes and what's it starting to look like okay along with looking at my 3d object so here's one thing that I find very useful that I would do if you're gonna adapt this workflow man I'm about to show you guys is yes we have a clipping brush and I can read dynamesh and we're good to go then I can come here and clip that and maybe now that's gonna be the cockpit part okay now I know down the line I'm gonna want to do more things with this ie maybe I want to use something like zmodeler on it or maybe nano machine or I'm gonna use maybe things with like a Ramos which I'm definitely going to use so this is where you gotta go as a user I know I like to call this playing chess is you gotta know that okay I'm going to want to do that down the pipeline I'm gonna probably want to let's say zremesh this so I want to set myself up to win and what I mean by that is instead of just going at this with the clipping brushes the way I've been going I want to turn on this polygroup option so right now I'm holding the ctrl + spacebar to make this pop-up you gotta you gotta say like that pop-up right so and then this is found actually in the brush palette okay so here in the brush palette you're gonna have settings here and you have a clip brush modifiers so this was made when we were making these brushes and we just wanted to make a quick way for you to jump on and start working with this so the difference now we have is when I go now to clip this way I get a poly group right so this can be something that you guys could do is the benefits of this is as you now start clipping away every time I clip you can see we're getting a new polygroup and now maybe I want to do something like this okay that looks good mmm let's maybe put I don't know let's put maybe another angle in there let's see how that looks that's got a new polygroup right and so what I have here is this kind of just just general shape but what I also have are these new polygroups okay and you can see here I got purple and purple purple something like you know what I want make sure that is a new polygroup I want to make sure that is a new polygroup okay because I want the all to be new and so why I would adapt a workflow like this is I wanna go now and maybe to the next step with this ok and this is just an example this is not actually what I did when I was designing this ship ok you know what let's also maybe put a little let's do a little screen capture here so we can see what we're heading towards as well and now we'll turn off fly boolean we're back to this ok so now I've got this there as an understanding where we're going and now I'm looking at my shape so the benefit to this now is I've got these poly groups so what I will do my next stage so I see hard surfacing is going stage 1 stage 2 stage 3 and stage 4 okay with stage one being silhouette proportions figuring out where all the pieces how they fit together I'm not concerned about like cabling scribe lining little bolts or nuts or a radar or little unit or anything like that I'm just worried about where I'm sitting right now kind of where this ship is right here that's really what my concern is in stage one this is I've already started moving into stage two which stage two for me is now refining and making the surface will actually look crisp and hard surface okay and then stage three is gonna be now throwing the crazy details in this where I'm gonna you know like I got to put windows in here for my cockpit put start putting some scribe lining stuff somewhere that's stage three and then stage four is okay don't wanna put some damage but with some weathering what kind of little smaller details do I want to put okay so why I like maybe using this as when I go to stage two this is what I can do I can go to my deformations okay and then I can say you know what I'm gonna use poly grouping ability so on purpose I made polygroups so I can come here and say polish by groups and I can move that slider and then this is just gonna now start moving all the poly groups and start creating more of a crisp look so if I'm opening this up right it becomes more strong so you can see how crisp we can make this so as a user you could be I'm good that looks nice and crisp and move on right so I don't have to do anything else if I don't want to however because I've taken the time to make sure I have separate poly grouping here this is going to allow me to come here to my zremesher and throw this keep groups on so that what's up side effects so now that I have this keep groups on it's looking at the polygroup so when I go to Z Ramesh this I'm gonna get a way better result of a zremesher and you can see I pretty much have now the exact same thing right but at a lower polygon count so I can even take that a step further and go let's let's drop this instead of 5005 thousand let's put the slider at 500 polygons and zremesh that and see what we get because think about if I want to use the modeler I want to have as little bit of polygons as I possibly can and you can see how low I can really start to get here okay so this is really something that I like to do okay cuz again it's all about setting myself up so now if I throw it by dynamic on you can see it gets a little a little soft but then I'm gonna start saying well let's crease that okay and I'm gonna say crease by PG crease crease by Paul Gray okay and for me I'll throw my crease level at 2 and I've turned on my dynamic right here so I've hit shift D turns it off D turns it on right and so what I'm telling ZBrush right here is hold decreasing for two levels and so what I'm gonna do here - my smoothing is move it to 4 and you can see you get nice now chamfered corners and then now that's really what a hard surface piece should start looking like ok so this is just giving you guys a quick thought process of what I'm now gonna do for you and how I'm gonna this is how I design and especially for a hard surface right I'm always thinking about mud I'm designing my prop my steps ahead and I want to make sure I set myself up because you can see how fast if I wasn't talking to you guys I would have had this result in probably a couple minutes if that right so I'm gonna revert back came back to the queue now because I'm bringing up this poly grouping thing this becomes important to me so in dynamesh okay we have the ability obviously when I do this the slice I got a new polygroup but the way I like to really design my hard surface thing is you take advantage of the poly grouping ability and what I mean by that is I'm actually going to turn off this poly group option and I'm gonna turn on the polygroup option here in dynamesh okay because I know I'm gonna be able to do other things to get polygroups down the road which we'll get into through these streams okay so by me doing that I still have obviously all the the clipping ability but obviously what we've lost now is I'm not getting a new polygroup I'm not actually too concerned about that and there's going to be a reason for that as we go along this process within these streams right because our goal here is to make another kind of ship right now let's a little bit like the one I'm making and I'm gonna keep working on the this ship between my streams and then come back and show you guys what how did I get to the next stage so what I'm trying to do is get you guys to how the heck did I even get to this stage okay so now that I have this this is how I start to work with this I'm like okay this is gonna be now a front cockpit I need to I think hard surface looks really nice when you start creating some overlapping pieces of geometry so you start seeing things kind of fitting together so I'm gonna turn on my gizmo okay and I'm gonna hold the control key and I'm gonna click on this arrow what that does now is duplicate the mesh that I have and you can see it automatically masks off the piece so what I'm having is now I want to make another part so if we look at the cockpit I have in my ship right here I've got another little piece right there right so I'm like okay I want to kind of do that same thing I kind of like that design element where I was going with that so what I'm going to do is I'm going to say what I want to do is click this little gear and I'm click this polycube right here okay what that's going to do is swap out the duplicated mesh with that polycube now so this is a nice workflow for me this is how I start speeding up my processes okay and then now I'm like okay I got a new cube okay I want that to position yeah maybe something like that okay and maybe just more like that all right and I'm gonna turn on polyframe so you can see what I'm getting right now okay so I've got a masked version right and I got this version right so let's make the polygroups very different so I've got now a green one and a purple one so the benefit to me by turning on again back to this dynamesh group section is now that I have two polygroups when I go to read dynamesh you can see the cube now the purple cube gets read ina mashed but the key part here people is it's not connected so I still can move this around so what I'm still velak myself here is a non-destructive workflow and I have ability to mass something off and moving around and changing around even after the fact I really want my freedom okay this is a prime example of why I like this now this thumbnail I'm looking at this and I don't like my silhouette so it's a simple thing is I'm masking off this piece and going okay let's do lay me a little clipping and see maybe I can just make that silhouette a little bit more to my liking that maybe I want so maybe something like that okay yeah I'm liking that a little bit better and then coming across maybe the bottom right so I like now what's going on there a little bit more and I read dynamesh okay and now I have this piece here right but then I can say let's look at just this and let's do a masking okay you know what let's also make sure I'm symmetrical with this mask let's do maybe a little something like that okay that's gonna mask all the way through and I'm gonna say I don't want that mask to go all the way so I want it to stop there so I'm just holding the Alt key how do I activate the silhouette section right here so you're talking about this so this is in preferences and right here in the thumbnail so if you have ZBrush 20/20 it'll be activated by default so this is only available in ZBrush 2020 so it's a new feature so it's just a thumbnail right here so that's how you activate it okay so I got this mask and now for me I'm just going okay reverse my mask going back to my gizmo if I want to so you guys can do a couple things here I can now it's take this gizmo alright and say I want to do certain things with it so I can even say do this and then extrude this in and now I've got how does that design element start to look with what I'm doing all right and maybe I like this even more or you guys could do a mass like this go to our clips again and then just clip it and get kind of like the same thing and saying okay I like that Reed I nimesh it and then there you go so now silhouette wise I can see what's happening silhouette from every angle but I also have the 3d representation of saying do I like having that little part there I'm not a fan of that so I'm gonna work backwards and in fact I want to do the opposite kind of wanna maybe just put a little little Ridge part in there I'm gonna verse that mask and say let's clip to there yeah maybe it's a little too much so let's look from this view let's clip to the mass portion there and then there you go and then being off right that's just starting to create some new breaking up within the design that I'm starting to make here okay and what I'm trying to develop and work here I'm just reading the question sorry yes it's possible to see all of my streams or anybody streams in one place that that a hundred percent is possible so if you go to actually our ZBrush live page or because I'm looking at our page and we're streaming right now hold on and my mouse is just on I gotta get to my other monitor come on little guy [Music] so hello let me pull this over so if you go into actually ZBrush live right you'll have our street all the streams here okay and you can click on the person right and look at their streams and then you can have a profile so here's a profile in gallery so that instance if you want to look at all Michaels streams Michael Popovich's streams that he's done and then you can see his gallery then you can see all the streams he's done you can see he's got seven pages worth of streams with us so this is how you can go and just look at only our streams so this is kind of why I'm doing a project-based right now I want us to be able to do if you want to do a real AFOL all make your own sci-fi ship like I'm doing it right now I want you all to have that ability to do that okay so there you go that's how you you do that to your question Jimmy alright so let's move along and let's keep thinking about this piece so let's look at this piece here and think about what am I gonna do there I'm not quite sure so again because of this technique that I'm using right now where I'm using dynamesh with groups I'm actually only doing one sub tool so it frees up for me to just say okay let's copy this alright and let's go ahead and put a cube it's saying hey you've got symmetry so I'm gonna turn off symmetry throw a cube in there right so there's my cube and I'm just gonna say okay I want it to definitely be in the middle okay so right now you can see it's not sitting in the middle right so here we pull it out more so if you look from the front it's not sitting in the middle right of the where I want it so you can hit this little house home and go home right and you can make that sit in the middle so again it's off-centered right now this is all masked and this home is putting everything to the center of the world in essence so what it's putting is it's looking at this gizmo right so if I hit this little map finder it'll Center the gizmo on the cube which it already was and then I hit home and then there you go okay and then now you have this sitting where I want it okay I see some questions coming through for development unfortunate guys I can't talk too much about development um I can't really comment if we'll ever have a Linux version you never know and as far as the Z scripting going I can't say we're gonna have any upgrades at this point unfortunately to Z scripting I can't say yes or no because there's things that we're doing so I can't really comment because we're developing stuff and I don't even know sometimes where we're gonna end up possibly with certain things because it grows it's like organic when you're coding it's organic okay so now I'm just gonna say okay I want it to be about that size okay maybe this size and I want it to sit somewhere else okay maybe something like that okay so I wanted to have and I'm looking up here as well and saying and then this is what this is all I started doing for this and go okay how long of a cargo ship do I kind of want to have I'm gonna say maybe yeah about there that looks good I definitely want this to be a lot wider you know something more like that again I'm looking up here right now and then going okay maybe that's a little too much for my liking from front view okay that's good all right I like that okay so now I clear my mask and I read dynamesh and so because again we're using the groups I got this I'm gonna throw my symmetry back on okay and then I'm gonna go back to using the clip brush and say okay I want to put a little more design element in this maybe let's make this and go a little bit more let's see what that looks like a little more deep okay so now you can see our problem here is I'm cutting into the their shapes okay I don't want to do that so again the benefit of this workflow that we're talking about is this key buzzword I'm gonna say is non-destructive I have the ability now because this pink part isn't welded with the green part okay so let me show you an example if you're not doing this workflow let me show you what you'll run into okay so let me show you the benefit first so I'm gonna switch to the gizmo because it's easy for me to just tap on a poly group and then every other polygroups automatically get masked out so again I'm just turning on the gizmo by the W key W right and then I'm holding ctrl and tapping on the polygroup I like okay and then now you have this and then now if I clip and like this you can see it's not touching any of the other one now right and now look at this I kind of like that design and now I just read ina mesh okay now let's do the reverse of this okay let's in fact even let's just duplicate this for the time being okay and then let's just go backwards on this right so then we're back to this point okay now let's say if you did not have that groups button on we're gonna still get the same thing right it looks the same there is no difference where your difference comes into play is what I just wanted to do with some design change so I can still hold this click on this right and come to here but the minute I go and clip here right I'm gonna get something like that now which is pretty cool actually it's a pretty cool design element right but it's connected to the green it's welded so that green portions gonna have to move with the clip right cuz everything is welded here so you can see we can smooth it's all welded so this is actually got a big gaping hole in it right and I know I have things like live billions down the road to weld things so forget that that's why I like to work with this one right that the design that I want and where I'm going and then everything is still separated ok so the lobster benefit to this if you notice in mine I made like some kind of little part here that's probably going to be some vents that are gonna go in there okay this is my I thought process a rakish well right now ZBrush can handle a hundred million polygons per sub tool so obviously there's possibilities even with amazing machines there is some plateaus for sculpting lines to when you get to hundreds of millions of polygons but of course we're always looking at challenging and seeing what we can do you never know what we come up with so this is what I like to do start combining features and putting them together so for me to do this this is now very unique kind of shape right so this has also got some density to it so I can't use something like seam all or do an inset like I can sit there by hand and try and mask out this for sure you could do that right and I can go smaller I can turn on lazy mouse and do that but I decided you know what what would be easier for me is okay let me look at this and this is another reason why I don't have perspective on alright and I'm gonna say you know what I'd rather do is come to the alpha and rain hearsay from mesh okay and what that's gonna do is open this little window up I don't know why I have to say my peas like that window up okay so this right here people is a Lisa needs braces moment okay so you're gonna want to think about this okay Lisa needs braces moment hey so and here's my handy dandy little wonderful Lisa needs braces moment graphic braces Lisa needs braces Lisa needs braces okay so for those that haven't seen the episode you'll know later on down the line okay so I now have this little alpha so I'm just gonna say frame this okay cuz I kind of want to just be a little bit bigger I'm gonna say alright let me back it off a little bit and you can see what this is all this is is the mesh in a viewer that this viewer is gonna create an alpha for me and in this case the map size for me 512 is plenty big enough I don't need anything bigger than that that's more than enough okay and then I'm just gonna say okay and now what I have here is an alpha that right now is on the Damien standard brush from the mesh that I'm making and the key part here is I've made a particular design change and thought here and now I wanna have that design and maybe I want to use it again and use it for other things so I'm gonna say here in the Alpha palette I got it selected I'm gonna throw it into spotlight okay and now I have the ability to snap my spotlight so I can use this middle circle part right here and you see that there's a red line and a green line this is all made for us to have the ability to snap to things and do other parts or other create other things so I'm gonna use this to create another piece of geometry in essence okay so I'm gonna move my cursor to the center of this right and then I'm gonna snap it to the center here right and then now if I'm clicking anywhere inside this dial you can see I can move this freely okay so this is the key point of understanding and this is a point where I'm gonna say all right now I'm now that I've got your attention again the difference here is I'm on the inside of the main dial but I'm not inside this orange circle so the inside orange circle is moving the dial this is now moving my image and what I'm looking for are these dots and you can see there's a mesh Center world center right there's different centering points here I can even snap it two corners right and along an edge Center all this becomes very important to me so I'm gonna say that that's where I want to I want to snap it so I know this is sitting at the center okay and that's where I want it to sit what's up Alex okay and now what I want to do is resize this so I'm gonna go to my sizing and I'm just gonna besides the Alpha back to the size that the mesh that I'm actually looking at right and now what I'm going to do is I want to make a new piece of topology but I'm gonna use this framing tool okay and I'm gonna hold the Alt key and frame it down and you can see where I'm going with this now so in essence I've shrunk this alpha down now so I had it set to the size of the mesh and by me holding the alt as an alt right if you're Canadian oh hey okay and now I've shrunk this and now I have a mesh and what I want to do with this is I want to create a new piece of topology now this is the key part here everybody okay this is for you the users I just found myself doing that all the time when I'm talking to users now okay so I want to now use the snapshot - snap share snap yang the snapshot ability okay but I want to use this now with live boolean okay so instead of just clicking on this camera let's just click on the camera and see what we get what we get is another subtool that's the exact same thing as what we're building right and it just adds it there and you can see it's just another sub tool okay that's not what I want to do well I'm gonna delete that one okay I want to create a new subtool but what I actually want to have happen okay is I want this camera part I'm gonna hold down the alt and then tap on the camera and it creates a no sub tool but you notice the icons changed to subtractive okay and you can see that subtractive portion now is being going to be used so if I turn off this you can see all we have now is another piece so if I turn on here transparency you can see I have that piece going along the same exact distance as the one that I have here and that's exactly what spotlights going to do it's gonna look at the selected sub tool alright see what that distance is and when I click that camera button it's gonna know okay I'm gonna make this new piece of topology based upon the topology distance that we have currently selected and there's a lot of great reasons for that with this feature and I use this feature often we're gonna use it some more hold on everyone take a water drink hot water break take a quick swim swim swim man my vocabulary is on fire today okay so now that I have this piece alright and it's already set for a subtractive okay so it's got subtractive so now if I turn on live boolean okay and we turn off transparency you can see what I just made right so now I have do I want this do I want to have a cavity like this for this piece right so right now I don't have everything on so if I do this I can really see what I'm doing you can see that piece is also obviously cutting in to our other parts of our design here okay so this is not really what I want okay what I want is kind of what I've been doing up here I want kind of just a indention a little bit so I gotta have some kind of like vents or in there or this just the design I started going to okay so this is what I'm gonna do I'm gonna switch to this sub tool alright and then this is another beautiful thing okay I'm gonna go into solo mode right here okay and then now you can see this is a piece of topology that actually has multiple polygroups so there's a red one here the middle purple okay in the back purple now if we look into this middle purple you can see it's just long strips of topology this is going to be really beneficial for me because what I want to do actually is change the size of this okay so I don't want it going all the way through okay so this gizmo is sitting at the front of the piece so if I just start messing with this blue one you see all I'm doing is bringing that back end more forward so here if we turn on transparency you can see where that this is what it's doing right right it's just changing the depth this is the beauty of not having a bunch okay what's up Jose nice to see you again there's not having a bunch of edge loops through that piece it's giving me freedom here to design and about how deep do I really want that to go right and now you can see one of my problems is it's actually cutting into the cockpit right that's clearly what I don't want to have happen so again advantage us using right using this dynamesh feature with this groups option on right so we've been building the beginning parts of the cockpit now and everything with this dynamesh groups on so the beauty here is nothing's welded for me so it's super easy for me to say okay I'm gonna select out just this piece and now I'm gonna go ahead and split it right and so now we have the cockpit which you know I were if I were you I would get used to renaming things as you go it's just gonna be more beneficial I'm gonna say rename this main body middle okay and then I'm gonna say rename this let me rename body sub so I know this is the subtractive piece oh man I oh boy we don't need we don't need a P in there Thanks okay so now what I'll start developing is okay I don't want that subtractive to effect this piece all right so obviously you can do a start group now and you can see it's not affecting it but I'm gonna take this one step further because I find this very useful especially if you guys are gonna start embracing something like live boolean x' this is huge for me okay to start working with so I'm gonna say forget the start group I'm gonna click on this piece which is our main piece I'm gonna ctrl F which is gonna create a new folder so now I'm just going to name this main middle portion let's just say okay and now I got a folder and now I just drag this piece in here okay and you can see I get the same result but the benefit here is at any point in time because I'm gonna be as you guys see I'm adding more things to the ship we're we're in the beginning stages right now right we're just at the process we're trying to figure things out I'm looking at silhouettes I'm trying to make sure what I'm making looks cool right I can at any point in time turn off all those sub tools and then turn all those sub tools on so this is where for me folders becomes huge and it's gonna become huge for me in the later stages when it comes to even posing things hard-surface okay now if you're doing what I do and when I did a snapshot once you have live bullying's on this the what's been snapshot to the document will get hidden if you start drawing over top of it there's nothing you can do about this what what's happening here okay so the only way around this for me would just be turned live bullying off right now and then it rear Enders in so obviously I could have brought this in as an image or like I said we could have just put that as an image in here now like I was in the very beginning of this stream okay so now that I'm looking at this I'm going okay now I need their knees leave me some more volume to this right so I'm back at the cockpit but what I really want to do is probably in here because I want to make a new middle section alright so I'm gonna say let's copy this right and let's do another cube so same process I'm gonna turn symmetry off I'm gonna hit this little centering part so I know it's sitting at the center of the copied mesh and right now gear it up polygons right and now I have this okay and I know I'm gonna want to separate this right out the gate I want to have this separated so I'm gonna just say down here in the split option so you have two options right here split on masked and masked points so right now I've got the main ship body middle alright and then I got split on mass and mass points it doesn't really matter which one you guys click I'm gonna click that one and now you got the main body by itself again and now you have this cube by itself I'm gonna go ahead and rename this and say middle repeat part okay it's hard to come over here and try and type my Cintiq is like in part of the way okay so now that I have this we're looking at creating this part right here right now so let's move it all the way on the front okay I maybe want to size that up let me see what that starts looking like silhouette wise well widen that out a little bit and say I wanted to go meet it there I definitely don't want to do that as much maybe something more like that okay and you know kind of like from this view too I like it kind of yeah I actually like that I like the overlapping shapes that are starting to happen here I got this angle and then you got this happening and from the top I like that view but I want to do a little bit more with this okay so again we're looking at just this let's look at and say our dynamesh okay I'm just going to throw that on so we have this again okay I'm gonna throw my symmetry on and I'm gonna say you know it needs a little bit of a edge there it needs a little bit of I think an edge let's do maybe something like that let's see that starts to look like as we start rotating around okay in fact I don't like what's happening here at the height actually so from the front it's looking pretty cool but I don't like the height so I'm going to unmask this portion so I want to move the bottom portion hey no how are you my man so all I'm doing here I'll solo this out so I'm just holding ctrl and dragging out right and if I just let go the bottom portion gets mashed of course you can hold ctrl and flip it right I want to save myself some time so when I draw out the mask I just hold the Alt key and now this is the opposite so whatever is in the box stays on mask everything outside the box what's in the box gets a mess right excuse me Paul or anyone with Seussville knowledge can you please recommend to me a 3d printer for small items under six inches tall of doing jewelry and using considering I should purchase a printer alright well there's a lot of printers you kill yeah the someone's already recognized the what you already wrote any cubic is a great printer obviously formlabs the form 2's or great printers there's also the b8 creator is a great printer it really comes down to how much money you want to spend because envision tech has some really amazing printers for that size so does 3d systems it comes down obviously with your price I'd say for what you're asking at price point the lowest price point that I have found printers for that would be the one you've already set any cubic Photon okay that would be your best one for at that price point that's pretty much there that that's the one I would go with if you're trying to stay at that dollar amount okay it is the lookup here here it is the lookup here guy now a hundred percent these videos are all archived okay so let's turn some limo back off I'm gonna switch back to gizmo and because I have portions on mast and mast if I hold the control key it doesn't duplicate the mesh it actually does an extrusion and I want this to be a lot bigger you know I want this to be maybe even more extreme than what I did this one with maybe something like that and I'm looking right here and I'm kind of digging that I'm gonna go even more yeah let's go I'm gonna go a lot more yeah that's cool okay and then I can read I nimesh this and then there you go okay so now here is a feature that I just have now I'm like I love this feature how high is my mesh right now Chris you can see my active points up here okay so right now I'm at across everything 1.2 million which really isn't anything and then this particular ones only 162,000 actor points and then here's all my sub tools I'll keep that open for you while I'm working here so you guys can see it so well I'm gonna close it down and I'm gonna open up a Ramos ok this to me has been a god-sent for things like this and hard surface ok nice next day one I like it so looking at this I want a repeating pattern okay to have happen here so a Ramos is perfect okay so I'm gonna throw on a Rea mesh I'm also gonna turn on my lock positioning because I'm gonna do some position changing I'm also going to do some size changing and I want the size and position to stay proportionately through my array meshing okay and I'll show you once we turn on the remesh and started going through this and I'm even going to turn on this transpose awesome I really like this transpose option okay so when I hit the W key W okay I want to switch to my transpose line which is the Y key why you ask I don't know just hit it y so what that is is calling this icon up here so allows you to switch from gizmo to transpose and because I've turned on transpose here in a ray mash my transpose now becomes the in essence sliders and controlling options in here so what I mean by that if you see right here there's an X amount okay so if we turn on our floor and really look at what direction I want to move okay you can see I wanna there's the blue that means that's the blue is Z so I want to offset in the Z okay so I'm going to turn off my floor grid now and so if I start off setting in the Z you can see I get another version of this okay and I can repeat this as many times as you want okay so instead of coming over here and doing that because I have this on all I have to do is put myself in move mode mood is mood move is offset okay I can hold the shift key and I can just move this and reign here you can see a repeater and I can just say how many do I want or repeat and say okay how big of a gap do I want okay so right now I've only got you know five big stations do I want five I'm not sure I want five okay so I'm gonna go back to this and switch to my gizmo okay and right now it's sitting at the center of this right so I'm going to Seoul this out and what I'm gonna do is hold the Alt key and tap on that front so you can see the gizmo sitting directly at the center now huh right and then so I'm gonna change the size of this I don't want this to be so wide maybe something a little bit more like that okay switching back to this and turning off solo I can say okay I want now a couple more of these and now I want that that's maybe what I'm looking for that's the pattern I would so this is what a Rea mesh opens up for me okay it opens up my ability to kind of change my design and go for it oh man I gotta get like a gizmo like um when I say gizmo oh that's the next thing I'm gonna have up here alright tangent tangent tangent okay so this is starting to create a very nice workflow from him like okay good to go I like that but you know what let's even throw one more on this let's make it eight and let's change the gap a little bit more like that okay and you can see now I have this right so I wanted eight and now this is not long enough okay so I want that to be a little bit longer so that's again because of the work flow we're doing that's just this sub tool right so now I can come and say let's just go ahead and make this a little bit longer I'm gonna stop right there actually and I like it right at that point that looks good right there okay and now I'm looking at my silhouette and seeing okay I want to do some more with this I don't like the spacing that's happening in there so let me have a little more fun with this so I'm gonna come back to my repeating piece okay and I'm gonna say let's Center that okay and right there that's the piece I want Center that and let's duplicate that lets size it down all right and then let's make it wider maybe so now I've changed look at my silhouette I've really changed my silhouette a lot right so now you can't see everything's peer black in there compared to what I have and because I'm using the same piece I'm kind of getting the same kind of design element so well size it up a little bit maybe yeah they're happy love trees okay and now I've got a little something like that I'm gonna inverse my mask and in fact let's have a little bit more fun with this let's say you know this part let's do just in this piece alone so again these are looking at being multiple polygroups so I'm gonna say let's make sure I keep these so I'm gonna do an auto group okay so you can see that there there are two groups now I'm gonna click on this one and let's do symmetry and let's do another little mask like let's do something I don't know that big yeah that looks good and I don't want it here for the sake of so you guys understand what I'm doing here we'll turn our a mesh off okay and you can see that mask I know that mass is gonna go all the way through okay and so now I'm going to unmask up to a certain portion say something like that and then I'm gonna say let's go ahead and turn or a mesh back on okay let's bring everything back and let's inverse the mask so now everything's masked as you can see except that top portion and I'm gonna do a little of a clip to give me something like that maybe maybe let's go a little bit less of a clip oh yeah that that's looking cool I like that better okay and then go ahead and now read ina mesh and then the beauty is again I'm seeing this along the entire thing right so I'm seeing a design come to life for me right out the gate okay and now looking at this I'm continue looking at my silhouette this is starting to become really heavy in the middle okay and my front end is becoming very tiny and I don't think that's what I want to do and I right now I don't have a back proportion to this so going back to the cockpit let's continue this idea and say alright let's switch to the gizmo let's copy that okay come on a symmetry mode I'm gonna Center that and let's go ahead and go through this the same thing that we've been doing let's get another piece of topology and let's go ahead and start doing some design element in here maybe like that okay I kind of like I like a little bit what's happening there but let me see if I go a little bit bigger does it look better with that gap don't forget if I turn on live bullying's you got to think about this as well okay and then say you know what I need that to sit more there because I want to keep actually want to keep that design element that I've done through here okay and then looking at that now okay I'm gonna make this a little bit smaller it's smaller do I want to move that a little bit forward and change do I want to do something like this and have something like that for my silhouette so I'm just experimenting right now and saying okay I'm looking at all my angles and seeing what I get and paying attention to what I've been making here so now I'm gonna say alright this is a low polygon so we want to read dynamesh this so again I want to have my dynamesh with groups on okay switching to my gizmo mask everything off but this one and now again just using my handy dandy clipping doing some experiments and say okay what if I follow that line and do that line also on this green one okay that looks pretty cool but what if I just do that line but it's further on down okay I like that I like this stepping that's happening here so I'm looking at this silhouette I like that stepping that's happening there okay now I'm switching to this front view okay which now I'm not gonna see this piece because this piece is too big I don't like what's happening here so again let's turn symmetry on and maybe let's play with this maybe what if I did that and now you have this happening do I really do I like that you know what I actually like that because I'm seeing something right now okay so I'm gonna do that and maybe let's what does that clip do for me all right don't like that well so what if I extend it and do something more like that what's that that's interesting that's looking interesting okay so I'm digging that okay and what I did in here I had it made me look so this is an example of my design is kind of even depicting a little bit of where I'm gonna go and my creation process right so I really didn't know I was gonna go this route until doing this so this is why I like to work like this because I have the ability to change things up so I'm gonna I'm gonna do this I'm gonna go ahead and grab another cube and I'm gonna shrink that down I'm gonna move that there and move it here and let's just size it up there and I just want to have that element because this is gonna be maybe some kind of panel I'm gonna put on the ship I'm gonna I just want to decide how big of a panel that's going to be and I definitely don't want it sitting in here so I'm going to need to change that up okay so I'm gonna say you know what since I have a piece that's cutting here all right I might as well take advantage of that and I'm gonna now take this little piece that I'm making and split it from the cockpit okay and we've got this we've got this repeater and then we have this piece right all right so this is my sub piece this piece right here is is my sub okay so this is what's making now this cut in here right that's what's happening right so I can either do what I just did change how deep that goes right but if I want to keep the depth and now this cube right here is a problem for me all I have to do is bring it into this folder and then now see that's getting cut away right and I'm I didn't do anything but moving in the folder and this is why I like to work with the folder because now I have this ability here and we'll just call this I'm gonna just call this front panel and you can see I'm I'm only working on this as if as far as I'm just trying to figure out what I'm trying to do here again front panel all right and you know what I don't like what's happening here all right so I'm going to turn on transparency and this is ID I want to make this a dynamesh okay because I want to just use my clipping brushes and I'm gonna be in symmetry and I just want to put a little bit of a just a little one there and let's turn off transparency note yeah I like that a lot more and then there you go and now I'm moving on here okay Yeah right now Alex I'm just I'm sculpting like a cargo ship so in essence what we're doing for these streams from here on out with me for this this series I'm taking this cargo ship that I've been making over here okay and I'm showing you the process of how I got to the part you see in the top right and then the next stream I'll have it further along and I'll go through that process and then I'm gonna make some interior stuff and show you how I would expose that interior stuff to make like a blueprint or like a booklet of here's everything within the guts of the ship okay so so I'm moving along here okay I'm linking that looking good now alright so obviously silhouette wise this just looks like a big rectangle right it's not really anything so this is where I'm like okay I wanted to start adding some wings to this or some kind of other element here that breaks now my silhouette of being this big monstrous block right I want to start having a little more cooler element to this right so what I'm gonna do is okay I'm gonna up here in the main part I'm gonna say let's just insert right now I'll just insert any cube it really to me it doesn't matter I'm gonna rename this and we'll just call this wings maybe the wings rule okay now I have this I'm gonna go ahead and turn this into a dynamesh okay sis because I know I'm gonna start using things like clip on it so I just want to have some some volume it has some topology to mess with here okay now this is another one of those Lisa needs braces moments okay Lisa needs braces moments or look up here okay so I want to again use a Ramos okay got to the choppa a good one and but I want to use it a different way this time okay and this is how is a nice way to use this so this is going to be my wings right so I'm gonna just turn on my floor so I can see the positive x side which that red lines the positive x side okay I'm just gonna stay consistent with this so I'm gonna move this piece there I definitely don't want it to be that wide right read dynamesh it and now what I'm going to do is turn on a Ramos right but right now I'm repeating this I've got one than two okay and what I'm going to tell ZBrush to do and here I'm going to turn on my transpose so you guys can see what's going on here so you can see where this is sitting right and remember once I turn on that transpose option in a Ramos and I switch to the transpose the transpose is now just a controller right for our array mesh so what I'm gonna do is actually reset this okay and you can see nothing happens what I want to tells you brushes you know what lock that position and lock the size so take a look at where this is sitting in space and lock that down okay and go ahead and let's reset that and if you see what just happened is my gizmo just moved and when it moved to was the center of the world water break right and the benefit to me this here is I can now just hit mirror acts and I've got the other wing on the other side but I don't it's a Ramos okay so it doesn't actually that other part of the wing doesn't exist but it opens up I still have the ability I can still move this and the other one's going to move right and then I can change the size and then that other one's going to change the size right so now I'm like okay let's start making a wing maybe some kind of other elements so let's maybe start from this view okay I'm gonna say you know what I needed to clip up a little bit give it a little bit of an angle and oops I don't want a mask and see this is the beauty is I'm not messing see you guys are probably right into this if you ever used this brush when you're clipping like this see I'm trying to get this angle this wasn't an array mesh this whole piece would get destroyed on the opposite side so because I'm doing this array mesh ability I don't have that problem I will not run into that problem now because I can clip to my heart contents and I'm good to go yes okay and then let's go ahead and say we need a little bit let's go from here do we want something like that yeah let's do that and you know what let's do a little let's do a little quick masking let's do something like that well inverse that and what happens if I clip that in do I like yeah that's yeah that's pretty cool I'm liking that I'm diggin that okay I'll read dynamesh that okay mm you know what hmm maybe let's go back and let's put a little bit maybe just a slight yeah let's do that and then let's now do what I just did it's gonna have a different look to it now which I'm all for and do this and so you've seen the benefit me of me now using something like a rash I'm not restricted really much at all and really opens up the ability of I don't run into some kind of restrictions of things right and I'm gonna say okay from the top okay that's looking pretty cool I'm liking that from the front how we look in okay you know what let's pull it a little bit so here's solo this out I'm gonna tap that put the solo back on let's put a little angle how much of an angle do I want looking I'm looking at this up I'm look I love it I just I just pointed on my Cintiq like you guys could see my finger in the Cintiq right now that's where my head's at right now people okay you can see I'm looking at the actual here I'm looking at that silhouette while I'm doing this as well look at that rotation maybe that I want okay I like that better I'm gonna reset this and do I want it to sit there don't want to sit there like where do I want this to sit you know me you know I think I think there I think that looks good for me okay and then I'm gonna say let's make sure this is reset I'm gonna Center this okay and then I'm gonna say alright let's duplicate this let's go ahead and throw a cube in here again and I'm gonna resize this down now alright and say okay let's let this have some rotation to it as well and size it down this way maybe something like that make it a little bit longer I'm gonna turn off my masking just so I can see what I'm doing here and doing a little element like that maybe and say oh and that's that's different so how about we do this right and then I do another one maybe do some kind of double thing here I don't know I'm just I'm just going where I'm trying to go with this I'm not quite sure so this is the beauty of this and then you know what I kind of like that double thing that's happening but I want to have a change in this okay so what I'm going to do now is clear my mass since these are both the same polygroup all right I'm gonna come down here and I'm gonna come to the polygroups I'm gonna do auto groups so I got two different polygroups here okay I'm gonna turn off my light William for now and I'm gonna read dynamesh this okay so now you can see everything's welded I don't want that welding alright I definitely don't want that welding I want to have my groups on so when I read I nimesh the green still the green right because what I want to do okay is I want to change my element so I want to have like yeah a little design piece here maybe and maybe what if I what would it look like if I did something like that yeah that's pretty cool that's different I like that that's then you can see my point here is I'm really just trying to design right now and I'm not worried about topology I'm not worried about much of anything and for that case I'm just sitting here going okay let's make this piece now a little bit more skinny let's make it more like that okay and then let's also move it up like that so it's sitting a different spot right and I definitely don't like what's happening in here so I'm going to clip that yeah that looks good I'm gonna clip that that looks good there okay just adding another little element there from that silhouette view all right coming into there you know this is the process that I like to do now these are my front wings and now I want to create some back wings okay how other season so how would you go on about if you were to repeat this wing along the actual ship I would again and use a ramus I'm using a Ramos right now right so I'm using a Ramos here in here so I'm assuming your question Daniel is you want now multiple one of these wings you could do that if you want it to right so right now that array mesh technique I showed you guys where I'm mirroring over that's in essence one stage of array mesh okay so for some reason you we want to go that route that that Daniel miss even saying I want to repeat this okay so I could say let's a pen new all right and what this actually is is another set of wings so if I want that same wing on the back I can do that right and I can even repeat more so if you want to do something like this where you want you want for those to go across you can do that or I can say you know what does 3 look like ok I'm gonna say you know maybe we can do this okay and I can say the pattern starts at a different spot right so you have things like this pattern length okay when the pine urn is on so you got these other sliders too but let's just say for the cigar let's put this down to two let's put it here right and then you could scale this wing up more if you want to as well so you can scale along the X right so I can say let's make it two by and then then the Z two right I just made that wider and it's the same wing that I'm messing with okay and maybe let's go one point five so it's a little bit wider and let's go even bigger let's go let's get crazy let's go three by three right and then now I'm gonna reposition these okay and move these where I want right and so now you have the ability to move these around in any locations that you want right but what I did for this was I just okay I have this already made so I just said let me just duplicate this and now I want to make a different type of wing for the back okay and of course you could just do what I did and now just resize the wing right here and you got the same wing right and then at the same angle same size and then I say okay I want that I'm looking at silhouette right now I kind of like that from the front not as much of a fan of it from the back what if what if we did something like this oh that's that's different I kind of I'm kind of digging that okay I like that because then I'm oh no not me me another element here maybe this is like some other kind of alum maybe it's even gonna be a gun or something that's gonna pop on that ship part of the ship there right and now I'm moving my way towards the back okay cuz I'm putting now I'm putting weight right so clearly looking at the top silhouette you can clearly see where's the back end of this compared to the front end of this right and then from any angle you can definitely start telling that right we're why where is all this sitting in positioning right and silhouette wise I'm still not happy with rating here so I'm probably gonna do some more experimenting for sure through here okay so where my mind went with that once I saw that I was like that's that's kind of different that's kind of cool I'm kind of I'm kind of digging that I'm liking that so let's go ahead and say I've got this array wing okay I've got this is my main mesh okay so I got this portion here in my main cockpit I'm gonna say let's go ahead and copy that I'm gonna Center that and throw again another cube okay we'll turn that symmetry off I got another cube alright I'm gonna go ahead and do a quick save real quick as we've been working for a while and I'm gonna position this and say okay I want them some kind of little station up here that this okay and what I'm looking I'm looking at this right here I kind of like doing things like that well there's a little bit overlap I want this to be definitely longer than the wings okay and I'm looking at silhouette now from the top not not loving it not loving it yet okay but I'm liking where this position is right now okay so I'm going to read ina mesh this okay so turn my dynamesh back on oh and we want to have groups on okay so now I have this piece alright and then I'm gonna say okay I want to be able to start doing some more stuff with this okay so I actually only want this piece duplicated another one so we'll delete that okay and now I want to start working on this so let's let's add some elements in here mmm handy-dandy clip how about if I make this have an angle and come across something more like that so okay that looking different okay good I'll actually like that and then symmetry on and silhouette wise from the front I'm not a fan okay that looks better okay that looked I like I'm digging that I'm liking that okay and then I want to do something in here okay I'm going to turn on symmetry so I can make sure I have the same type of mask all right and looking only at this withwith solo I'm going to say I want to unmask everything from there mmm that's maybe a little too much let's go everything from there all right I'm going to inverse that and then let's clip that down all right and then now I have that element happening so looking from the front I can start seeing a little different there looking from the side okay you know I kind of intrigued what if I clip right there that's cool I kind of like that that's cool right this is how you start coming with like some unique shapes that I would never have done with just using regular polygons ttle idea thoughts here right I'm just quickly moving around quickly looking at my silhouettes looking at where I'm going with this okay I kind of want more a little bit more of that there that's better a little bit more of a gap there okay you know what I also for the sake of the wings okay let's turn that subtool back on let's move these a little bit more forward a little bit more like that yeah okay that's good I just want them to sit in a different spot different part of space okay all right so this is now gonna create something okay and this is the tough part where we were talking about someone brought up there's always so much stuff going on a hard surface I know I'm gonna put a lot of other elements in here like I'm gonna do something like like the Millennium Falcon is what's in my hand right now but you got to be able to so as an example here let me get back to some of our examples that we started this with right so looking at again the Millennium Falcon here right all this stuff that's happening up here on the top of it like all this kind of stuff that's what I'm thinking right things like this or like you see that part in there or all this and that's what I'm think I'm gonna start putting in that little cavity part gotta do that that I made right so I know I'm going to do that but I'm gonna do it down the line I don't want to at this point in this stage again I'm still in stage one I'm not trying to just do everything right now I'm just trying to figure out the main shapes the main elements the main silhouetting that's going to happen right so I've already said I'm not happy with the front silhouette I'm just I'm not a fan of it so it's it's missing something it needs something I'm not quite sure what it needs yet so I got to go mess around and play and figure out what does it need so let's just grab this and say okay let's copy that and now you guys get my work flow here I'm just using a cube and I'm just going to size it and all I'm doing right now is looking at silhouette purposes and seeing if I make an element here let's see let's make it wider okay from the front can that's that's starting to have some interesting things happening here it's starting to break up a little bit what I'm looking at okay so I'm gonna say alright three dynamesh that I'm liking that and okay so what if I clip across okay so I'm going to turn my symmetry on and say let's clip a cross let's use the line of the wing can I just clip across there and take a look at we got okay I like the fact that I didn't go all the way in fact I want to embrace that a little bit more so and this what I mean is happy love this is like old school Bob Ross right there you know there's happy little things that happen right I like that I like that there's a break happening in there for that okay let's then say from the bottom looking at my silhouette what if I did that okay so you can see our problem right what else am i clipping I'm clicking that center portion which I don't want to so that's an artist I got to make a decision do I separate this now I'm gonna head and say as an artist yeah I want to separate this now what's up Ashley okay so I'm gonna it looks like looks too much like a nose yeah cuz we're still I like it maybe I wanna nose first last okay so I'm gonna separate this and I'm gonna split this off because now I just want this to be another mesh again this is going to be I'm gonna call this back wing boosters all right I want to have these to be where I'm gonna hold because this is becoming a heavy ship right so I'm gonna need a lot of rocket boosters to make this thing actually work right so okay that looks good and now that I'm separated I can have some fun here and say okay do I want something more like that in my silhouette maybe not so much I kind of like I'm okay yeah I'm liking that better okay that that works for me and again I'm a big fan of adding like just another little element in there alright and again I keep looking here a lot what I'm doing this process okay I I don't like this I want maybe even not that much maybe just yeah that's enough for me that looks good there all right and it's see this kind of thing I really like but let's see maybe what if I bring it all the way out to here okay let's look at cool you know but what if I bring it here so it's not under so it's under the wing a little bit more right and again I'm just moving around looking at what I like what I don't like okay I'm I'm personally liking my front silhouette a lot better I am digging that but I kind of like this overlapping thing that's happening here a little bit more kind of creating again levels here because I know I'm gonna do stuff with this down the pipe okay so I'm saying okay so what if I now say okay what if we now combine and do under the wing with that how does that look okay do I want from the top do I want that do I want that don't want that don't want that a little bit of this a little bit or maybe I go you know maybe what if I followed the line of the wings a little bit and do that from the top that's cool I like that yeah I'm keeping that I like that so you can see here what I mean by my processes are just going and going and going and I'm thinking right so understanding ships and things like that this is an essence like there's got to be an intake of air happening so I'm gonna reuse this shape right I'm gonna size it down something like that okay and maybe let's look at this from this angle maybe do something a little bit more like that and let's even let's go ahead and size it down this way a little bit something like that right and all this is right and this again is changing my silhouette you can see what's happening so I'm constantly what I'm adding things I'm still reading is that a smart decision this is why I like to work this way what I'm working okay because I like this from this angle I like it from this angle okay I like it from that angle a little bit but you're looking good there but you know here it's just getting again to block you for me so maybe if I start playing with that a little bit more yeah let's go maybe even more harsh let's go from here yeah that's a lot better okay that's good I like that angle I like that angle Moneypenny right I'm gonna say okay good I love it let's let's commit okay but we're not committing if we're making them separate polygroups right so you guys got to remember this worthful that I've been talking about this whole stream is about nondestructive making sure if I do change my mind I have the freedom making sure if I want to split off something and make it a new subtool I have some freedom okay and and that's exactly what I want to do here now I don't want it to look like this right I like it from every one of these other views okay but I don't like what's happening right now in here so I want to I want to do something else in here okay so I'm gonna go ahead now split this off all right so this is about subtool I want to go ahead and split hidden right so now I have this piece is in the front I'm gonna go ahead and again you might get use just renaming so I'm gonna call this back wing boosters front piece you don't have to get clever with it people don't get clever with it all right and I want to now manipulate this and say okay I want to break that a little bit something more like that and then from this angle you know what let's go ahead and use the actual let's use not clipping let's use clip rectangle and do this hold the Alt key and clip out right don't like that okay so let me switch back to the clip curve and let's say let's come this direction across and then double tap and do that clip okay yeah I like that better there's some other element there it's a it's getting a little too thin there though so I'm gonna come across like this double tap DoubleTap and and do yeah that yeah there there I like that a lot better okay so the elements here and then I can clean these up is just doing the process of figuring out what is it that I really want this to look like and I'm looking at every angle through here right so it really starts to open up ideas and thoughts so I'm digging where this is going I know I'm gonna put some vents in there and some other elements but I'm gonna move on because I want to keep moving on right to all my pieces right I want to keep going all right look at my life bullying real quick so I need now something in the back all right I need some kind of thing that I can control and where I can put some more rocket boosters all right hold on some questions the bottom serves as the cargo ship needs to be made of a solid porcelain like material and absorb the heat when when descending the planets due to the planet's gravitational acceleration I like it see your minds going your minds going I like that good job I like that Alex I can't even tell what you're making oh thanks top top top zero a man what's your question let's see sorry I'm just looking at a question hey is there a way to create a separate morph target layer for each alpha so you can control their level of intensity individually well that would be layers that's what you would use I mean that's just layers and then you can bump the intensity for each layer and I see dr. depress is in here and answer the question for you already I think's dr. depressive for being here okay so let's keep moving along people let's keep going along here again I'm trying to get you guys to understand my process of how I got to this point and the next dream I'll move on and have more done and then we'll go with the next process okay but you can see how far we've been getting here in these hour and a half right so let's keep going with this so this is gonna be part of the mean ship so I'm gonna put it in my folder here so I have this front panel piece I'm gonna go ahead and do this look at that and say okay let's go a little bit wider all right needs to be a lot bigger something more I'd say like that and definitely a lot wider maybe something like that okay nice okay and then now I'm saying okay let's start doing some other design element here okay so turn on my symmetry and this should maybe have a tapering let's see what that looks like yeah I don't like the taper not that much of a taper a little taper looks good a little taper goes a long way I don't like how tall that is yeah that's better for me okay that looks good all right and then what if I know that looks silly what if I just do okay a little one looks a little bit better that looks better all right and looking at all my silhouettes from the top from the bottom you know what I kind of I think this should be in more yeah there that's that's a lot better for me and I I'm diggin what's happening right here actually too in fact let's embrace that a little bit more let's put another different angle in it yeah let's embrace that again this is a lot of everybody what my eye is doing right now what you guys can't see I'm doing a lot of looking at this again I'm I'm touching my Cintiq like you guys can see it I'm looking at the 3d model and then I'm looking at this at the same time so when I made that cut my eye immediately went up to here to see what is that looking like right cuz it's just a habit I've now started to make in my designing this dot sky why I love this new thumbnail thing it's it's been very beneficial for me okay so this I put a little angle in there okay cuz that's silhouette right there I don't so do maybe the usual thing I like to do is just throw a little yeah see I don't like what's happening there though so if I go a little more extreme mmm don't like it don't like II I no likey okay so maybe all it needs is a little bit of some kind of nice little beveling here okay so I'm going to do this I'm going to have this okay be here alright and do that and obviously I want to move this back into place I had this here okay and so what I'm gonna do is do some sculptural stuff here so let's solo this out okay look into this we have geometry here right so what I'm going to do is do how about we do a little bit of trim dynamic okay and I'll go a little bit bigger so I can trim along there so you can see what that starts to do okay cuz I don't like this silhouette where it's this silat where it's super sharp and honestly I find in my hard surface designing you want to stay away from super super super sharp because it doesn't exist in real life right like my phone I pick up it's super sharp it's sharp but it's not like a perfect 90-degree angle right if you look around your room right now you're going to hard pressed and probably pretty much nothing has a perfect 90 degree because everything's manufactured so there's some shrinking there's some growing everywhere my monitor it's pretty ninety degree but it's not exactly not agree my Cintiq right so you guys got to think this in mind these little bits is what starts making the hard surface look a little more realistic when we start doing CG heart surface okay so this thing I'm about to show you right now this needs a Lisa needs braces moment on top of the look up here look up here look up here on top of the users okay so this little bit goes a long way okay design whites okay so what I'm going to do is I'm gonna take advantage of our lazy Mouse okay so I'm gonna turn that on right and I want to have a little bit of a radius not a much that not a much okay and do something like this but because I have lazy Mouse on I can do something like this right where I can draw out a line so I can say go from here then to here then to here right and then you can keep replaying those okay so what I want to do is tell ZBrush okay we're gonna go lazy Mouse cross from here then from here then to there okay and I don't like that one let's go here and I don't have I'm not worried about being perfect okay and then I do it again do it again do it again right that right there is gonna already out the gate just change the silhouette slightly so looking that right there like now it's enough for me and because I had this weird angle I wasn't able to get what I wanted now looking at this I'm like you know what maybe I want to continue that stroke up here right so continue that stroke along there right and then come out of solo mode and that's changing up this element so you know now you know what let's do it on the top now - all right and then one key one key one key through replay right these little things will make a big difference for us they're gonna make a huge difference for us for sure okay and now I want to have this changed up a little bit right so designing wise we can stick with symmetry and say let's go let's go like that okay and that is going to end let's say there and then let's go to my clip and let's inverse that and say - they're just so there's a little indention happening in there right in fact let's see what it looks like if I made this mask go a little bit deeper let's make this mask go into this and see what that's gonna look like let's do that okay we're inversing that and I don't want it affect this top part so we're gonna do a masking of that and then now let's see what that looks like it's a lot of trial and error but I have that freedom to do the trial and error right I like I'm going with I like that I like what's happening in here cuz I'm I am again thoughts down the road of things I want to do okay now this is supposed to be some kind of big ship right the shortcut for the clip brush is ctrl + Shift + comics legends yes I was hitting the 1 T 1 1 1 1 okay so right here and the stroke I was doing modifiers replay last look there's better things than that Allah in all honesty people okay shift 1 is for something you know darn it since we're talking about it okay we're doing it tangent alert time just alert okay because we're talking about this let's go on a tangent here for a minute because I think this is underused features in ZBrush and I use them a lot okay cuz you guys are asking the questions okay so let me grab something in here let's just go I don't care what it is let's just grab this okay so let's understand some differences here between here let's even dock this stroke palette because this is what I want to talk about right now so you guys we made a tangent happen here okay so as a sculptor right I can say sculpt the build brush right so if I hit the number one the one key ZBrush is using this replay last okay so it's replaying the last stroke key point here stroke not brush so what I mean by that if I switch to say the Damien standard and here let's reset the brushes okay so if I say Damien standard and hit the one key you can see the Damien standard is now happening where that claybuildup happened this is gonna be awesome trust me this is gonna be great okay so it's the stroke it has nothing to do to the brush I can switch to the blob brush and hit the one key and now I'm blobbing it up in that same area right so this is a great combination way of doing things right I can combine brushes real fast and I don't know why when I say real fast I have to do this maybe I need to make another mean for me to do this okay so that's just the one key okay so let's go back to the clay build up if I do now say something like this okay and then say I move my cursor here I can do that same stroke again and again and again and again and again right the difference here is I'm replaying that last stroke somewhere else okay so I was using replay last which you can see is the one key here and for these strokes I'm using replay last okay which means wherever my cursor is replay that last relative stroke you just made so everybody you need to understand okay okay a rotation or zooming is a stroke in ZBrush so what I mean by that when you guys do this it's seeing that as a stroke ability okay so if we do this again where I say let's say we do this okay then I can go anywhere and you can see I'm not moving the sphere the minute I do this right I've changed the game so now if I go do this you can see the strokes not the same because what you guys have to understand is ZBrush has seen your document think of it I guess this is not what it is but the lamest terms I guess I can put this as think about now back being in 2d world when you guys made this stroke in A to D here it was at in a specific location on the document and a specific size okay so this stroke ability of ZBrush is kind of doing that same thing where it understands your stroke in this document space started here and ended here right so right started here and ended here and when I did that stroke the sphere was this big right so it was taking up a lot of the document space so when I made a stroke like this okay I can go somewhere else and the spheres still there the minute I do this and hit that one right the sphere is not there anymore it's where my cursor is it's not there so there's nothing a drawn okay so that is something to think about if your zremesher guides are not working with ZBrush 2020 what version is zremesher number one or using the Alt key or not the L key and number two do you have the slider turned all the way up and how many guides are using all these things will definitely come in on the play right so this these curved strength slider is gonna be dependent as well yes this of course will work on morph UV AHA numbers n yeah I betcha right okay we can we can go into that right so but before I move on to that I want to show you something else right so I'm now gonna try let's undo all this by my member okay and let's do let's stay with claybuildup so we can just see it and I'm gonna do this alright and maybe a small one and then a big one and then maybe a line here and a line here okay so what I can actually do is replay all those strokes again so not only are you replaying one stroke I'm replaying how many time acre one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve strokes right and now here's the cool part I can now rotate the model right put it somewhere else and then tell all those strokes to play again right so I'm taking this idea concept of replaying one stroke and say no no no no ZBrush no no I want multiple strokes replayed okay so what I've done is use this new feature that's not a new feature that's been there for I don't even know now twelve fifteen years okay I'm using inventory and see the stroke count what number does it say all right I'll give you all what number what number people all even turn the magnifier what number is it pop quiz what number twelve right so what did I do I did 12 strokes so you guys didn't know it but I told ZBrush to start recording my strokes and then I told the stop recording that s is what we did in this inventory is captured those twelve strokes okay so if we start over again now that I have this open okay and I come in here and I say all right start recording which the shortcut for record is the number three okay so I'm just using the ZBrush shortcuts right now because I know them I've memorized them by now okay and then now I go through the process of just making strokes and you can see that slider is increasing as I make my strokes okay so when I hit three to stop the strokes and again I can even switch to Damien standard and now if I hit the two key I'm replaying those 14 strokes because what I'm doing is now I'm telling it to replay all so I've got all of the strokes being replayed in this location but because it's stored in inventory I can actually rotate my model and as Long's like we talked about the models relatively the same size right I can say replay all which is shifts to and now I can say it's shift to right and then shift to shift to right and then I can come over here now and say replay all those shift to shift to okay so that was a great tangent okay for us to go about what I was doing there when we were when I was starting to do this stuff with the ship okay so hopefully that solves your problems and understand what I was doing there yeah if you hold the control key does it work with masking so obviously when you you're dealing with masking you're doing what now you're holding the control key right so no because now the control keys being held there's a keyboard shortcut being held right so if you hit the two key right right it's like well what do you want me to do what's control and the number two okay alright to get around that though what okay so to get around that question that's a great question actually it does it work with masking here's a way I could make it work from with masking okay here is a great way forget it to work with masking I'm gonna switch to the actual paint brush okay and I'm gonna fill this what color with that alright I'm gonna with white I'm gonna switch to black over here by hitting V by Victor ooh okay and now I'm gonna say all right I've got painting ability so and there's other ways to use this I'm gonna my mind doing this and then you guys can paint this right so that's a paint so I've now if I say okay I'm done recording we rotate somewhere else and now my things and then I just hit the shift to I got that again so what you can do now or what even you don't even have to use black anymore okay you have the ability now in masking and you have this mask by color and so I can mass by poly paint I can mask by intensity and because I used black here right my intensity and there you go I have a mask bada-bing bada-boom right but I don't have to use black I don't I can use any color now of the spectrum as long as you have ZBrush 22 I wish I could do the Barbara Walters tour you know I'm gonna put the bar below the same for whenever I say 2020 we're gonna have Barbara Walters head pop up 20th what a nerd okay so what I mean by that people is you can grab any color you can grab this blue right so we turn our paint back on and I just start painting with this right this is now can become a masking because in that same masking menu we now have mass by poly paint which opens up a new window and I can take this little thing right here and say car and then bingo right and now I'm masking based upon this I have a tolerance control right and then I say okay now that's math and I can even inverse it but I can even do that in here right because you have an inverse mask capability in here right so I can do this and now you can see that the everything else is mask put the blue and I can do the opposite like this is endless people you can do stuff like this where I do a mask like this and then I go into this and now I say okay not okay this is great what I want to do now is do the on mask and do this and now you can see I still have that rectangle mask but then I've also unmask this blue portion in here like people this is how you could do like some screwed this what I'm saying hard surface is step chiral like if you notice I've put not really any scribe linings anything like the thin detailing lines I'm gonna do that in like stage 4 man maybe stage 3 okay so this is a way you like yeah you couldn't do what I was doing with the mask brush because I have to hold the control key to run the mask well I got other tools that all iming up the piece man right and if you could you could even save this color on a layer right and you open that layer and call that masking anytime you want to write or if that color stays on your mesh you got it it's there I don't know I make them faces I'm just watching myself right now make stupid faces all right moving on okay oh now I don't want to look at this okay so hopefully that answered that question I don't remember who asked that question because now there's been a bunch up up up a bunch of a commenting okay thanks Dana thanks for favorite thank you for that appreciate the call-out glad you're having a good time in my wackiness craziness here okay so boosters let's do some boosters all right so this is gonna be super easy for me actually all right so all right all right cake I like a cake layer 98 I'm glad I was able to answer that for you so what I did for mine was like I don't know what I want to do I don't know what type of boosters I really want to have I really want to make okay so I'm going to insert a geometrical shape I really don't care what it is it's not even relevant all right and I'm gonna rename this boosters okay and so all this is just some cube sitting over here it's not relevant to us this cube I'm only using that because I want a new subtool and what I want to do now is I'm gonna switch to an insert mesh brush right so you can see here in this designing people that I've been doing I'm using a lot of features and when you know the features your workflow goes through like I'm not kidding when I send the beginning this dream this original design literally took me about 15 minutes right because I just went and I was just being an artist and I wasn't here sitting it to myself talking to myself being in an idiot and a fool the way I'm in with you guys right now okay a hundred percent Alex side thrusters you know Rob gold man you know where I'm going okay so this insert brush that I like is this model kit and what's awesome is we already have boosters in here so I don't have to make them I've gap right so I'm gonna go symmetrical and I'm gonna say okay let's put that booster there okay what does that look okay that's looking pretty cool silhouette wise okay and this is supposed to be something that's big right so these boosters need to be relatively big okay so do I want to do something like that and then maybe do another middle one that's even bigger right so it really sure shows the weights of this ship okay and then going okay now I want maybe some side booster here okay so let's turn symmetry on so let's do a medium-sized one there okay and then you know what I'm gonna grab a different one and do maybe a smaller version so there's levels to the boosters as well now right and I'm gonna say okay there's those boosters I'm gonna turn on dynamic sub div by hitting the D key as in dynamite right and now all I'm doing again is my eye is going back and forth between the 3d mesh and the boosters that's all I'm doing right now okay so I'm gonna say okay that one's cool let's duplicate it alright let's go ahead now and say let's get rid of all the ones that I've drawn out here so let's turn this one off alright and let's get back to just only having a cube right and then geometry modify eyeball and delete hidden so of course this workflow I did this i duplicated several of these right because I didn't know what I wanted for boosters because my mind went okay how about I try one where let's say let's do this let's do a small one and let's duplicate those small ones like that maybe have four there okay and then let's duplicate those let's size those up maybe do something like that okay that looks good let's grab a different booster whoops let's not have gizmo on that would be helpful Paul helpful stuff you can save your projects people it's so important don't want to maybe put a little small one there you know what I think I want a big one right here but I don't want to I just want one right and this is getting a little cray-cray which I'm alright with mm-hmm maybe not a big move that in position okay and then okay now let me do maybe this time I'll just do two the same like that and start looking at that and going do I like that I don't know let's try another one it's really again I'm experimenting I'm trying to figure out what I like right so I'm gonna say I like a big one two small ones I really like I know okay I know I like this offsetting thing happening because I go to the silhouette that's a nice stepping thing that's happening for me that I'm diggin I'm liking okay you know but let's do the opposite let's do big ones there and let's do a larger middle one there okay and then let's switch to this and add two small ones there alright and then over here let's add let's do I like the big and small with that angle a little bit there okay so you can see as I'm adding more boosters it's putting when I sit and when I say wait it's creating the volume and that makes this ship look oh this is pretty big ship man you need that many rocket boosters for this to move forward that's a big ship right and I'm just going through the process and saying okay which ones now do I like right what's the one I like now okay definitely don't like the third one that one's pretty cool I think I like that this third one I mean right so then in essence people this was my process for the Boosters I made like a different ones and I literally did this I'm like I just kept cycling through them and then switching my silhouette and going okay what that looks cool okay okay I like that and just cycling through them and going which one do I like better and from all my angles which one is the best one to look for okay so in this case I'm gonna go with the third one I just like the third one okay so now my problem is my designing is not done like the booster shouldn't just sit like that okay alright Gustavo said the last one to high 3d art with a Javad how are you okay so I want to add again some more design element so let's take care of this back portion right here I want to add something to this okay so I'm gonna say let's go ahead brush insert okay and I am insert primitives okay but I could literally just do this instead I'm gonna say again duplicate alright this process like this right and I'm gonna say let's do something different this time let's take a poly cube okay no symmetry pop that in here let's move that out size this up okay and hitting the W key I have cones I'm gonna make it so there are no geometrical spans here because I want to now start doing some zmodeler stuff with this okay so I'm gonna go ahead now and I want to separate these because I want to know one of them's dynamesh dense and this one's not going to be dense so I'm gonna split this okay so that there's this part and anothers this part okay and again renaming I would recommend so now I can size this down and say I want something like this let's rotate this like that okay and I want it to go all the way up to there okay and I'm gonna say let's go to maybe they're all right and then let's push this down like that let's get this angle a little bit more the way I want that angle to be do something more like that and not as thick kind of like what was happening here okay I like that I like what's going on there and you can see my designs change because you look I lost a little of my wing design so I'm gonna need to definitely fix that down the road okay now I'm gonna say let's do some zmodeler so I'm gonna do Q mesh single polygon let's do a face that comes out like this and in fact I want to recenter this and I'm gonna rotate that face and then bring it down like this let's keep bringing that down and maybe rotate it like that okay I'm gonna go ahead and rotate these vertex points right here and center that and go ahead and rotate that because I want that to have an angle to it I still don't like this rotation something like that and then I'll push this in a little bit and then now I'm going to do something like that okay and then now maybe now I'll maybe adjust this again to give a little bit more of what I'm looking for so I'm gonna have consistency here all right something like this right so I have now that obviously is going to change my silhouette up a lot right but this is an essence going to be the cover that I'm going to use right so I'm going to I definitely want to insert an edge loop here I'm going to insert an edge loop here right and then I'm gonna get rid of that polygon and redraw it out so it has an angle like that because I want that look there I'm gonna turn on dynamic by hitting the D key okay your Eve I'd love I'd love to get a drink sometime absolutely okay and then I'm gonna say you know what I want to crease all so it stays nice and sharp but if you guys remember my rule for me for hard surface nothing should be a hundred percent sharp so I've turned on dynamic sub div which again is shifty turns it off D turns it on okay and now I'm saying I've got three subdivision levels I'm gonna go to four so it's given me a smoothness of four all right and then I'm gonna say you don't only hold that for two levels and you can see this gets a lot different right it smoothes up so figure I go to three then it looks like that and then four it just looks sharp so actually I like three right now where we're at with this okay and up people again I know there's other features I'm going to use down the road okay I know there's other things that I'm gonna start working on and combating with okay so don't fret don't don't go cray-cray okay and so now that I've added this this has changed silhouette it's changed some things you know what I want to see if I add an edge loop here and then take these vertex points and then just move them like this right and then say okay let's crease all again what does that look like that's that's I'm liking that a little bit looking again right right there adding a little different element change you don't and it's kind of silhouetting the fact that there's a bigger booster here and a smaller booster here so I'm using that idea to kind of drive this right and then of course I haven't been working in symmetry mode so I would want to turn on my floor and take a look okay I need to Miren hold this over and now I got it on the other side so no biggie right so you can see look how far we've been coming in these two hours right of really thinking about we want the D key right about this right and now I'm gonna continue this idea and going okay I don't like now what's happened here in my wing okay because I've like where I'm going with this but not what it's done now to my wing so I'm gonna go manipulate that and change that and this is a prime example of everybody why I use this workflow okay because I can now quickly write looking at this whole control and tap and I know the only thing that I'm gonna be messing with is that part of the wing now remember we're in a Rhema Sh right so I want to mask off this top portion right because remember we're doing an array mesh where the one side doesn't even exist right now if you remember and now this is set to this I'm gonna say you know what let's change this back one a little bit let's go with let's bring it out a little bit here a little bit more do I like that maybe do I like that instead that looks that looks pretty cool let's change this angle even a little bit something like that and let's see what if I what if I thickened this as well so I'm gonna tap up here on the top right and then you can see this is moving away right right so what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna turn on local sim and then now I can add some thickness to this mmm-hmm don't like it don't like it so you can see what's happening here is I've had symmetry on and if we remember we're array meshing so the other side is already being done for me so really I shouldn't be if you look at this I shouldn't be using even symmetry right now right so I don't even need this I can just start building that and I clicked a couple times sold on let me go and lunch again talk amongst yourselves coffee talk coffee talk near the hill there do you enjoy the stream thumbs up do you hate the stream axe in the chat I see all your chance let me reload where we're at oops wrong keep all right so again I'm trying to I know this this first part stream I'm really trying to emphasis the workflow that I'm doing right it's really about trying to free up as much as I can for myself and being able to mess with this right so doing this and again if you guys hold the Alt key and tap right the gizmo gets set along that normal and I definitely don't want this one to be touched so I'm gonna mess that off completely okay and then so when I do this see it's changing the size because maybe I want this to be actually bigger maybe not that big maybe like that right and then now maybe move it down more and do something like that instead and then now I have that for the back wing right and I am actually I'm digging this here I'm gonna click and made this bigger so we can see the silhouette better I'm like when that's going so you can clearly see there is a tapering white wait help tapering wait happening differential happening here or obviously I should have more weight in the back because of these boosters and I would hundred percent Andrew use this organically definitely this is honestly this workflow was inspired by organic thought and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna lie watching some one of the Great's and so sad that he's gone now Syd Mead watching how he just drew gave me this idea of how I'm working I don't know if you guys have ever seen Syd Mead videos of him drawing and how he just the thought process I watched a video over him where he was doing his thought process right so in essence he was just recording those this is what I do man so this is kind of what I'm doing with you guys right now I'm doing this was my thought process when I'm making this I don't know where I'm going but I want to make sure I keep myself open for the options to grow okay so what I mean by that is when I watched him when he was trying to figure out her drawing he would do like like 15 thumbnails let's just say or ten thumbnails I'm just different ideas that were popping in his head then he would go and say okay I'm gonna narrow it down to maybe eight of them or six of them that alike then he would redraw those six a little bit bigger right and then that made him to really hone in a little bit more on what the composition he was trying to get then he would go okay I'm gonna narrow that down to maybe two or three and then draw the thumbnails again bigger and then that's where he would go okay this is the one that I'm starting to dig and I kind of like he would grab that one and I'm not kidding he would read now draw another set of like six or eight thumbnails from different now camera angles and then that's how he started narrowing down his process it get to the one image that he was trying to make so in essence the point I'm trying to get across yours were artists we're trying to think of things and do stuff right I need to think what am i doing I don't know and now I'm using something like 3d which they added now thing is it's 3d it's not just sitting here drawing real fast right I'm now in essence using ZBrush for that process I just described okay and that's my goal here is how do I open up my freedom okay to do that okay so multi-cut is just inserting multiple edge loops so we do have a multiple edge loop insertion ability with the dynamesh I mean with the dynamesh with Z muddler okay looking at this piece now I'm sorry I have to do it I was looking at this and I'm going you know what I want to let's solo this out especially the big one I'm gonna make a mask right here and I'm gonna inverse that mask and I'm going to switch to my Clipper Unni here and then just do something like that yeah just little just see little things like that people start going a long way right and I'm just figuring that out I just wanted to have a little break in that scene and I'm off and running again okay so you can see what I'm starting to do here and how I've got to this is the one I'm working on right and we just kind of did a new one recreation I'll turn my live bullying's on so while why this is happening over here is I'm combining a lot of features and then I'm combining a lot of features that are rendering features so what the problem is here is I've turned live bullying's on which is a rendering feature realist is and then I'm using a rain match which is kind of rendering feature because these meshes don't exist so there's a competition happening now so obviously the way to get around this was be I convert my array meshes with the live boolean Sanh that's that's the way so if this never happens dude that's all it is it's just a rendering conflict so if I have these wings selected right down here at the bottom right it'll say make mesh and then you can see it's gone but now these are the actual meshes now so I've a lost that remesh ability but I can start using the live bully ins more and more and then now that is the next stage I'm going to start to do I want to start now messing with some live bullying and maybe change some things up in here ok so maybe like along here I want to add some elements to that okay so I'm gonna go and find this piece right here right and then start looking okay that's where that piece lives I'm gonna say I'm gonna insert another piece of geometry not relevant what it is okay so this is what it is it's just a little cube okay and then I'm gonna say brush insert and lime mmm boolean's and say okay let's see if I add this element what does this look like okay so I have that but what I'm going to do is turn this into a subtractive okay and in fact let's also turn symmetry on okay and let's say let's draw this out this and you can see what that does I instantly see what's happening to this and say maybe so I don't know let's let's stretch it and then maybe shrink it to like do I want something like that mm I'm not digging that as much okay so what about this one what about this ooh that's interesting that's creating an interesting result what about this one oh I kind of okay let's see move that around don't want to do something like that maybe move it a little bit maybe just something like that right here alright or maybe this one and then move that one out so you soon I'm doing here is I'm using live balloons right now to create a result okay in here and I'm just just guessing right now I'm just messing around with shapes what about this one what if we use this one and let's rotate it and size it down bring it out okay I kind of that looks pretty cool but maybe not there maybe I use it somewhere else do I use it up here maybe maybe something like that yeah okay I I'm alright with that I'm digging it okay now I'm gonna grab this one let's draw that out and let's do something like this but not so much something like that let's do that okay and because where I'm at I'm gonna say you know what let's go here and let's go to extender and I'm gonna extend it out so it does that and again I'm getting it on both sides right so I'm just using right now and the beauty is I know it's only happening to this piece because that subtool is set to a subtractive and it's right below that piece okay and then I have live boolean x' turned on and then now let's go backwards right I have this piece and I like that but I want to make it longer so I'm coming into the gear and I'm clicking on extender and what that does is when I grab this orange cone it just does that and watch this guys we can even do something else here we can even say all right that's cool but let's also what if we slate or deflate deflategate right so now there's another stepping here okay so I can even say all right along this I can size up on one side or size up on the other side whatever I want to do here this is pretty awesome I can come in here and add spans of topology through here right and then be symmetrical not symmetrical I can move these spans of topology if I want to around with this blue circle it's like there so much stuff we're going to be able to do it's insane okay so what I'm gonna do is stick with what we have here we're just gonna look at solo mode right now and I'm gonna switch to zmodeler and because the question got ants asked I'm gonna hold the spacebar on an edge I'm gonna select select multiple edge loops now I'm just gonna go through these I've got poly grouping perfect that's what I want okay I'm gonna say green then I'm say qmesh polygroup all I'm holding the spacebar over a face I'm going to push this in a little bit okay and come out of solo mode and now you have that happening right so do I want that design element i personally prefer that right but you can see what the abilities that i'm making for myself here I'm making an ability to mess around like how about this what if you put this on an angle instead and mess with the angle and then have something like that where there's a slight angle in there which is pretty cool but I don't I kind of like having a ridge right there so I'm gonna keep it like that right and I'm like I like that that looks good I'm gonna move on now right I'm just going done move on in the next stage right so this is now the kind of stuff I'm starting to do with mine so over here I'm starting to clean things up right and adding these elements the cargo-ship will be able to dock yes so obviously we're gonna be starting to figure all this stuff out right this is the point of this I'm starting to figure out like that question was a great question how does this ship even land how does a dock does it dock and you got to think about the elements now and going design wise okay where would I put feet where would they pop out excuse me if I was gonna put feet where would they go right and thinking about that right and then thinking about this what what's gonna happen in here for the vents and I'm just going through my processes okay so what I want to challenge you all with unfortunately I have to get going it's been a great two and a half hours I want to challenge you guys with can you now take this two and a half hour stream though we talked about looking these features can you make your own sci-fi ship it doesn't have to be a car go go nuts do something different I don't care do whatever you want right and then the next stream I'll have mine further along and then I'll show you the steps I made things go further along okay and then you go the next time and third further along let's do a project together I would love if you guys would do this with me share what you're doing you know if you want it's easy to tag me on ZBrush central my Jeep I have two zebra central designs I'm my old school name okay so my zbc name I'm gonna put Z BC which is short for zebra central so there's pic so Paul on here so that's my pixel logic one okay and then my old-school username that I am really posted anything with four years and don't go look at it actually I don't know why I'm giving this to you guys okay is gabble 1991 but right now I I login mostly right now with the pixel Paul so if you guys want my help along the way - I'm on zebra central every single day so if you guys start tagging me because you can do the at on zebra central so what I mean by that you can do at pixel Paul and I will get messages on I would see that you don't have to actually message me on zebra you can use the app pixel Paul and I could be able to do find things that you guys are going at so I would love to see some of you just messing with this right and I'll jump on zbc and if sometimes if I see something where you're going astray or you have questions I'll be able to help you this is a great way for me to be able to make our streams with you with me a little bit live even after the fact where we can continue this process and I'm gonna get one my main man Kyle and see when I can stream next maybe even this month I'm gonna try and see if I can get another stream in this month I got to first be a take my ship to the next step right because again if you guys remember my ultimate goal for this project is we're doing this stuff right so we are going to do look stream within a stream we're doing this right I'm trying to make like this where there is going to be like a technical manual to the ship almost or like this where you can see inside the ship I'm trying to make just one final image that's kind of like this where I'll see inside the ship and then I'm gonna show you guys how to do all this stuff kind of thing right inside of ZBrush alright how can you do something like this right inside of ZBrush it's gonna be super easy right and I would love it if you all would fall along anybody to fall along with me I'm gonna save this ship out so we have it too cuz it's cool because maybe there's different classes of my cargo ships alright I mean I want to do a little bit more with this one than the other one that I'm making okay so before I go and there's any last-minute questions we have for the use or okay so it's been a great two and half hours had fun a gun later than I usually go but it was a lot of fun going here and it lasts many questions but if we say a sign off for you here thank you again look at our schedules or see when I'll be streaming again I know you guys are probably seen seeing we had an update to ZBrush core patch so there's a new ZBrush core patch you can see that Daisuke from pixologic will be streaming again Sol and Blair will also be streaming again okay so he's got his projects that he's working on to Daisuke is working on his projects guys tune in we're all sharing different ways of working in ZBrush and everyone's different would you zremesh the whole thing no certain pieces I would zremesh but honestly some pieces I would quickly rebuild with zmodeler right because now I have all my proportions set so it's a fast rebuild I'm not sitting there the problem with you know if you're to go with something like z model your low polygon so you do more trying to figure out topology to get something where you noticed most of what I've been doing is just me mess just messing around I'm not limited to a topology I'm just hey I want to make it like this I just mast out cut it compared to okay I got to make an angel appear as you'll appear I just appear and then bring it down make that all work right so my mind was more free so something like this is super easy to rebuild if I want to wizzy muddler or yeah I would do a xiri mesh with poly grouping well Gustavo that's a tough question Mayans ZBrush your depth or different applications or different worlds ZBrush were more like a sculpting application but we've added a lot of features over the years that you can definitely do blow polygon modeling and modeling like I've used as Maya since version 2 but honestly now because of all the features we've added in ZBrush I barely go to mine I know I can do almost pretty much everything I want inside of ZBrush it's just doing this right I'm telling if you guys try to now make your own ship you're gonna run into issues and then if you guys are sharing on ZBrush central I could pie hop in on in comment on your images right and do it so like label them I don't label your topic is your essential Paul Gabri stream or Paul streamin or some wild wacky crazy Paul or I don't know but as long as make sure you do a NAT pick so Paul I can find them ok so that's a tricky because mine is very different than ZBrush they're not the same worlds per se and then I would use certain parsing remesh and that's kind of what the next step I'm going to show you guys is how do I take all these design elements start cleaning them up start adding in more details that'll be the next stream because that's what I've started to do with this my ship here I've started cleaning them up so the next time I see it I'll have a lot more done on this and then we'll dissect that and then the next stream will have more done and we'll dissect that ok so thanks for watching everybody it would probably yet this is Gustavo yeah it could take a long time in my depends oh well you know my of course but yeah the my point here yes there's I'm just sculpting I'm going but in my mind have the ability to just keep going and I'm not restricted by our 3d restriction of like polygons vertex edges I'm just going okay so thanks for tuning in hopefully some of you get the itch to want to go make your own piece I really appreciate you guys watching this is going to be part one will be having part two later on again watch our schedule for one part two will be happening I really appreciate you all jumping in I hope you had a great time have a delicious day I'm out all my little things let's let's do this you are thoooose thanks for watching I'm out what
