hi there in this video I'm going to show you how to transfer a photo onto glass okay now you may or may not see my previous video where I asked the question could we apply a photo onto glass you may well have seen the very popular how to transfer a photo onto wood which is currently sitting at three million views and really off the back of that people were asking could I apply it to this that and the other and one of them was glass and actually we had pretty good success with it and I thought let's take this as stage on and do a proper tutorial on how to apply a photo to glass now the whole point of these for me is that they make fantastic gift ideas whether it's some a little block of wood or we did a little ceramic tile or in this case a little jar that you could put a candle in I think this would be a fantastic gift for a friend or a family member there's not going to cost you a lot but that photo could be something significant and what wonderful present to give some money so that's what we're looking at how are we going to do it I'm going to take you through the stages right now alright now I'm going to assume that you haven't seen previous videos and you haven't seen how I've applied photos onto different things better that way and you can just skip this few seconds if you've seen it before now what I tend to do is I'm printing on two photo paper and I take this then to the printers because what I want is a laser copy I've confused people with this in the past you're not transferring the photo paper image onto the product this is purely like a master copy but because I know the quality of that will come out so much better I'm taking the photo on this I'm transferring it onto this photo paper I go down to my store and I say please can you do me a laser copy of this I get a few while you're there and this is what I come back with in just cut this out this came on an a4 sheet of paper and it's a laser copy and then what I've done in this case is to think this is a jar this is was a Yankee Candle so it's already been a gift that my wife's had that it's run down and by just washing it out and getting the label off we've now got a huge R so all I've done quite crudely really let's show you on here is I've this wasn't I'll be honest I didn't get this photo ready for this one I've had this photo printed out because I've transferred it onto a canvas and other things but I ran a few copies off and actually it doesn't sit too bad so what I've done is to just realize the top and bottom really of this Brian I haven't even measured it properly I've literally just put it on and folded over but I think that could look this is some again have a look on my website I think it was labeled it as out of photograph blowing glitter or something but if you have a look at blowing glue to type that into my search on my home page and you will see how I created this photo a lot of fun wonderful little photo and so all I've done now is I folded that over I'm about to cut it so that it will sit and then what I'm thinking is that you could drop a camp in there and if that were a photo maybe that you know I'm giving it to Mum of this young lady she'd really like that it's a bit like decoupage if you've ever seen that where you're you're sticking these things on and maybe that's another way of doing something wouldn't work with this is too thick you want it on like a serviette don't you for that napkin but let's um let's cut this to size now in fairness I am doing this a little bit quicker and cruder than I probably would if I was giving this as a proper gift it's almost lined up but I probably should be putting a ruler over this really and making sure that I've got it done right but what I'm trying to do here is just show you how to apply it you can then take this and then fine tune it and do a better job and let me know it got on alright so this is how the photos going on now what we have to do is so what's going to happen here is we're going to glue their image side of this on and then we will let it dry and then we'll come back and we'll rub this off the water with water just take the paper off of it and the image will stick it's a fantastic little process people have commented on other videos and God why don't you just stick the photo on totally missing the magic this is a wonderful little experience putting this on seeing it slowly coming through and then we seal it in and you can give it away as a gift right so let me just get a bit of paper to put under here and we're gluing on the face of this now I'm not going to glue to the jar because this will be more accurate as to the size I need still got a bit of glue on my brush here right let me show you on here this is what we're using its called gloss gel medium I just put a little squirt on here make sure it's right over the edges that's why I put this paper underneath and if you feel like you haven't quite got enough then stick a bit more under go short on this because this that's where you'll we haven't got enough glue on it you'll come into problems okay but you can see they're the kind of coating that I've put on this stuff it isn't the cheapest and but I don't know how many transfers I've done there and I wouldn't think I'm even halfway through it so it really does last it's worth getting the right stuff I will do my best to find links for it for you your region and then get them over to you and get that in the description I should say okay so make sure it's the right way up and what we do is try and use something flat I've just got a little card here it's actually a loyalty card from a local Indian restaurant it shows how often I go in there a roller a spatula something that you can just push this down without it being your fingers now this is a bit trickier because I'm going to round the curved surface like this but I'm just trying to flatten that down and know that my glue is all stuck on actually I am just going to smudge that round with my fingers because it's a an odd shape there we go that's got me a couple of thumbs down all right actually can see through Isis I've got a bit of a furball there can you see that I want to make sure I get rid of that best as I can so this is a new challenge for me this this definitely is harder to get applied because of the shape of it and actually I'm backtracking as I go and I am using my finger to try and get this on trying to knock out any bubbles but they're on there not quite sure if that's just too much glue in there certainly was enough on it I'm going to leave that alone now I've done the best I can the more I rub this I'm just fearful of moving it and smudging it but there we go so that's at this stage what it's going to look like you can see through the inside if you didn't finish it all the way around now I'm going to leave this to dry overnight we'll come back in the morning and we'll just wet it down and we'll see whether it's stuck on up ok so we're back we've glued this on to our glass you can see through the through the inside there what the image is doing and so the process now is that we're going to wet this over the outside layer of this paper well in theory all the paper comes off and just the the ink bit really is left stuck onto the glue I waters a bit mucky because because this is as far as you're concerned this is how to put a photo onto glass but I'm running three different videos through at the same times it's easier to batch so I'm running a photo onto canvas and a photo onto a guitar that one of you asked for several you asked for so yeah that's why me water's mucky there so all I'm doing is just wetting this on trying to get the water into paper so yeah let's see how we get on now I've done this before onto glass and did it went well was quite pleased with the results so I'm confident we'll do all right with this one as well so let's just see I want to rush it on my canvas one that I've just been doing second ago not to you but to me just felt I was getting that I was rushing it a bit you know I'm trying to get these through get them live for you but that's here's a time where you just feel you've got to put it to bed come back to it and have another go right let's see if it's finger time now expecting and quite happy that it kind of phrase a bit at the edges and it necessarily want a nice clean edge certainly along this bottom where it curves slightly but you can see that it is just really that top layer coming off and already we can start to see something of the image underneath now I'd like to just keep this rolling at this speed and I've an asset with you but a lot of you commented and said speed up through the tour key bits so much as if you're not enjoying my waffling so I'll let you decide in the comments do you prefer me fast forwarded and silent or do you like hearing from me maybe I don't want to know and go but is this how you use it then you subscribe to SLR coaching or whatever and you're looking out for the next videos please give me some comments and feedback I'd love to know how you're using it and you know is this the better way to work it that I'm almost sticking everything leaving it on YouTube and worrying less about a webpage bi-rite so we're getting this paper off other than a little bit of lifting at the corner there I don't think we're seeing too much damage we've got a bit of a mark there I think that's going to come out that's really hard to tell on this glass because it looks like it's almost pulling but it's as if a scratch marks there can you see those possibly not it's like this little scratch marks but I think it's just how I applied it and the side that I rubbed it I'm just cleaning up a bit here I think this is enough for tonight and I'm pretty chuffed because I don't think we've really had any major accidents thought it was all coming apart on me there but it's just the way it's think with it being glass it's just the way it's coming the way I'm seeing the glue through it it's actually what it is yes it's never-ending I'm just trying to wipe the pulp off the top of it that this loose paper and I'm constantly lifting a little bit more each time I brush it so I'm going to stop there right looking pretty good so far though what do you think whether it's the best image or not I don't know can you see through there a little bit flat but what I don't know what that look like with a candle in it but these are the sages cheap spare throwaway glasses I've recycled so there's no cost involved in hit this the pound or so to get a print done the glue or the gel medium that you need but that's going to last you for ages all look I'm pushing my luck that's just lifted there I need to put it down right I'll see you tomorrow okay so I've actually just had this back in again and I've just gone over this one more time so I've wet it down I've rubbed over it and I've let it dry and actually this is that's looking pretty even now I'm happy with that and I know now that it's big is a little bit white there that I think maybe I could rub a little bit more but on the hole that's there so what are we going to do with this now I could try actually people have said about using Mod Podge as a sealant I'm still sticking to this furniture oil I know it's a bit odd to be using it but it's worked so well on the other stuff it will give a slight brown color to it just for this sort of natural effect where you can see just by the glass I love it there but I've gotten well with this so far I want a good result and I'm just going to go for it one more time so just pop in a bit of this down on the counter I don't want to totally wreck my desk with this right now this is obviously a bit different to my normal doing this onto wood yeah is coming out right so I'm also going to stick myself out quite quickly now spray this on may be actually working across the way like that there we go all I need that's all sealed in what I will just do is to wipe around the edges get rid of a wee soil it's quite easy on glass because it's not going to stick to it anywhere other than on the paper you can see the colour of it actually when it's on the paper here can't you but again it just shows that you know it this is not special varnish from a craft shop this is from a local hardware store and that is my varnish and that's going to finish up put a bit of a white backdrop you can see that a little bit better can you but there it is as I said before I mean it's totally worked in my opinion can you see the color on that just trying to get a good view for you it is quite washed out but if you remember the original start info so that was the hope that this style of the photo was it was all blown out apart from these little pieces of glitter so maybe I picked the wrong photo to be applying on to this in the first place but in terms of gain of the process does this stick onto glass yes it does it's done a lovely job in my opinion you know a lovely present for a Mother's Day or something you could actually write the message bearing in mind this is the photo that you're doing on your printer you know do your lovely picture of Graham on there or your family input to Graham you know or to Mum happy Mother's Day you can put that image up just remember you've got to flip your photo around so use something like Pixlr as an online tool or Photoshop or even when you're in the printing software quite often it was telling to give you an option to reverse or flip the image because when it's on the printed photo and then you're going to turn it upside down and stick it on any text you've got it's going to come out backwards until I think you've written it in a foreign language but I think that is a really good idea put a little personalized message on there but there you go a photo onto glass exactly the same method as we've done for a photo onto wood we've used our gel medium which is lasting me forever this stuff and then I've just used this furniture oil that I've just got from a hardware store it's designed for obviously garden furniture spraying over it lacquering it up there you go not bad actually saying lacquer I wonder if hairspray would work that might do exactly the same job of sealing this in I might try it on my next project hope you enjoyed that please leave some comments below give me a thumbs up if you've enjoyed it and throw some ideas in of what else you would like to see photos transferred on to all the best guys thank you
