hey guys it's May and it is the Saturday before Christmas and you are frantically looking for that very last-minute gift that you can give that's homemade well I'm gonna show you what you can do so this product is called armored edge it works quickly and there's like hardly any cleanup and you can do this on any kind of glass surface so I had the idea to do this on one of the glass ornaments that we did the glitter in recently and these we carry in our stores so I had these handy but if you don't have a glass ornament just head to your local store pick up a glass vase a jar a coffee mug whenever you find that glass and I'm gonna show you how to make glass edge products with no cricket or stencils because I don't like a stencil because I don't find those very easy so check this out I wanted a monogram an ornament and then I thought about aisle monogram a vase and I'm going to show you the ornament and the vase in just a second but I want to tell you about what products I used so this is a set of stickers I purchased at Walmart and this is a nice set and they're a good size see the size of that a and that B they're very nice and you can see here that I've already used one of them you'll see that on the vase in a few minutes nice set and I want to say it came but yes 74 big pieces so I picked up these stickers I also picked up this set of stickers that comes with 83 pieces and this set has large letters and small letters so you can do monograms with these it's not perfect but it does work so what I'm going to do is I'm going to take you through my process for making the ornament with a monogram and for making a glass vase with the letter on it and I don't have the vase to show you because I've already done it and giving it as a gift but I'll have it in the video for you to see it so let's get started before I forget I will tell you this is literally how things happen for me I wanted to do this video the first of the month and I went to my Walmart to pick up a glass etching and they did not have it so I ordered some from my distributor so I would have some and I went ahead and put it in our store so if you can't find glass etching we carry it in our store there's no way and get it to you before Christmas but at least I have it for the future because again like I said my I couldn't find it at my Walmart so here you go if you want to pick it up I'll leave a link for it below let's make an ornament and a vase here you can see I've taken that glass ornament in three of the letters and I'm going to use the armor edge to etch the negative space maybe or the positive space I don't know the difference of those things I'm sure somebody knows I'm sure you can correct me in the comments but what I'm basically going to do is anywhere this sticker is the etching is not going to etch so it's going to leave a nice clean glass section behind now I was inspired to do this by Sharpie mugs I don't know if you've seen Sharpie mugs before but if you go check that out on Pinterest or Google where you take a sticker and place it on an item and then you take a sharpie and dot all around that sticker and when you've peeled a sticker off it leaves behind whatever you would protect the surface if it's been a letter or a picture or what-have-you so I'm dotting this on now admittedly this is my second ornament to try because I want to see all the details I needed to tell you guys so here's one thing I discovered on the letters themselves I'm going to coat it with the edge and I'm using a good bit I'm really letting it really kind of glob up on top of the sticker I find that the more you you know the thicker you put it on the better the edge is to be honest you don't want a really thin layer of the etching so what I do is around the stickers I want to really cover this so that all edges of my letter have been covered in the edging if you don't do that you could get some not distortion but the letter won't quite look complete so you want to make sure this section around the letters are completely covered with the edging now after that we can start to play with the dots a little bit we can then come in with the end of the paintbrush and get kind of freely but first cover every edge of your letters with your edging cream what to had all of the letters covered with the etching cream I went back and still taking dots of edging cream on the end of my paintbrush I went around the edge and just dotted the edge to kind of give it a frilly look almost like a lace look because from here I'm going to transition into the dots that I'm gonna do to kind of carry over to give it you know just a little more decoration so all the way around the edge of where my edging cream stops from covering the letters I go around and dot the end of the cream to give it that little bit of a lace edge it's just a good transition so free to start the dots so this is pretty much where I ended the dots then I'm going to let this sit the edging cream itself says to let it sit for one to three minutes that did not work I tried that and nothing happened so I decided to let this sit longer and I did three tests and I found the best time was one hour and I bet if I let it sit longer I'd even get a better result so these that I'm going to show you today sat for one hour the other thing I would encourage is to turn the ornament over and make sure that there are no gaps in the letter so that you got all the edges of the letter covered and then let it sit this is the vase I chose to do I picked this vase up at Walmart for just like two dollars maybe three and these are those big stickers that I showed you in the beginning this is the a I laid this down I did get a little wrinkle in it but I just rubbed it and burnished it with my finger and it didn't make any difference so if that happens don't stress just keep going I think you'll be fine so just rub it down really well onto the base and I'm gonna do this just like I did the ornament but this time I'm gonna use a bigger tip so we're before I used the small paintbrush this time I'm gonna use one of those um sponge brushes this internetworking very much the same as the first one and believe it or not this I thought was gonna take me a lot longer to do but because I changed the tip I was using and I used the thicker tip it really went kind of fast so I made sure I had the etching cream on all of the letter and then I went back with that same sponge brush and made large dots all the way around dots may not be your thing and I totally get that the idea here was I wanted to make a project that I could do quick that I didn't have to cut out any stenciling from my Cricut I didn't have to go purchase a stencil like few stencils especially on round surfaces so I didn't have to do any of that and my thought process again was this is the Saturday before Christmas Eve and if I need a quick project I could do this it turned out really cute you can do this with just using the sponge part of this applicator and just make a shape around the letter and then let it edge in a shape maybe a circle maybe a square maybe a cloud whatever you wanted to and then peel that off get creative you can do it ever you like and if you would like to cut out something on your Cricut or your silhouette in vinyl you can totally do that even with transfer tape you can just cut out a stencil with transfer tape and make it very personal do someone's name you can do anything you like get creative the big thing is this etching cream is a project you can do fast because there's really no drying time although it has to sit for an hour once it's done you rinse it off and you're ready to go once it's at for an hour I took it to my sink and I ran some water I just ran cold water you can do warm water that will be fine and I just ran it under the water a couple of things I should say here one is some people will spray the edging cream off and put it back into the jar and reuse it I've never done that I've never had such a big amount that I could do that with and with these stickers I wouldn't do it anyway because they kind of get eaten up and if you're gonna leave this overnight you might want to think about that it might mess up with those stickers you can do a test with one of the stickers and see how it does overnight but this etching cream does kind of eat the sticker away here it is all complete I think it is so pretty I do have a little water in there that I need to pour out that got in but it turned out really really well this is actually for Amanda and so I think that she'll enjoy this little ornament on her tree so let's look at the vase the face was no different I did it exactly the same the water might have gotten a little bit warmer because I've been using it for a little while but the same thing I took my little sponge brush and I just wiped it away really really fast I did hurry I didn't want it to sit anywhere but I kind of thought I don't know if this is true but I used to do hair and usually once you hit a chemical with water it starts to stop it from processing I don't know if that's the case I didn't notice any damage from doing this this way you might want to you know wipe it off first and then go to the water but this works just fine for me notice how the gold is coming off of this ticket that's because the etching just eats that away and that's no problem because we're gonna peel the sticker off and I won't be able to reuse it but it did do its job there you go super fast project super fast gift you could put candy in it you could put a plant in it you could put anything you want in it and it's the perfect gift for somebody done and done that's it guys that is the vase and the ornament and I actually made these for my assistant so she has these she has the ornament and the little vase and I think that turned out really cute and it was so quick honestly start to finish the sticker the etching cream everything was just a little over an hour so you could literally start this project before you get dressed for the party let it go activate come back rinse it off head out to the party you've got a gift for whoever you're going to see or for Christmas Day I hope you enjoyed this gift and all the other gift ideas we had for the season and I hope you have a wonderfully Merry Christmas I will be taking a little bit of time off for Christmas so I won't see you guys again until the thursday after for our live show but until then I hope you have a wonderful Christmas thanks so much for watching talk to you in real scene buh-bye
