are you looking for a torrent client for unraid do you need VPN support for your Torrance but don't know where to start I used to use qbit torent in the past but had an issue with random downloads stopping for no apparent reason so I dumped it that's when IID found delou VPN it's a lightweight free cross-platform bit toret client with VPN support that runs on unraid why delou VPN it has Pia VPN or private internet access VPN support built right in it's solid and reliable lightweight and has plugin support and it just works so sit back relax and I'll show you how to set up delou VPN on your unraid media server let's get started first thing we need to do is create some folders for the downloads to go into to do that go up to shares click add share for share name go ahead and put in downloads if you have a cash Drive in your system go ahead and set the primary storage as cach because there'll be a lot of reading and writing going on and then the secondary storage set that for the array then on the Mover action make sure it's going from the cache to the array which is correct hit apply there and then scroll down a little bit and for the export set that from no to yes and then hit apply and go back to our shares and you see the download share is now listed let's browse there open File Explorer if you're on Windows type in back SLB slash and the IP address of your server in my case it is 10.0.0 do11 and then press enter and you should see your download folder there go ahead and open that up inside the download folder we're going to need a few extra folders so go ahead and create new folders in there the first one we're going to call completed and then go ahead and create another one and name that one incomplete and we're going to need one more for any zipped files so go ahead and create that one one we're going to call that one unzipped all right you can go ahead and minimize that window for now so now we need to go up to apps and then in the search box type in delu press enter and we're looking for bhex deluge VPN click install the first things we need to be concerned about are the ports since this is a new server for me I'm sure that these ports are not being used but you probably want to D will check these on your server to do that you can scroll to the bottom and under show Docker allocations it'll show you all the ports are being used on your system I have none we'll go back to the top and carry on host path 2 here this is the container's path for its data which in our case is for the downloads so for us it's going to be under MNT user downloads go ahead and click out of there and then under key P1 this is where the VPN is enabled we can click there and hit no to disable it but since we want it enable we're going to leave it on yes key2 is your VPN username and in there you will enter your username for your VPN service I use and recommend private internet access or Pia VPN for short and the rest of this guide will be geared towards using their service as the VPN so if you don't have the Pia V VN service yourself there'll be a link in the description below it's the best VPN service in my opinion so I'm going to enter a random user password right now just for demo purposes here but I will enter my actual information off screen that looks good all right key four your VPN service delou VPN supports Pia airvpn Protime VPN or you can set up your own custom since we're using Pia we will leave it on Pia we will use the openvpn as the VPN client and yes we want port forwarding for key8 here for enabling privoxy you want to select yes and what that does is it allows you to use the VPN service on other containers that you have on your system it's not mandatory that you do but it's nice to have it enabled in case you want to all right scroll down a bit all right key9 here the land Network this here you want to reflect what your network is so in this case it's going to be 10.0.0.0 and then the sl24 is a CER notation that indicates the use of the entire range of those IP addresses so on my network it's going to allow it to use everything from 10.0.0 do1 to 10.0.0 250 54 so your land Network may be different than mine another very common one would be 192.168.1 or 192.168.0 if yours is something different like 1921 16864 then that's what you would enter we'll set mine back to what it is the name servers are in here by default these are just different name servers DNS servers out across the internet and those are all safe to use so go ahead and scroll down further now we can scroll to the bottom hit apply once done go to the very bottom click done now you can head over to your Docker tab you'll see here that it is not running so we'll go ahead and click Start and then if you click on the icon and go into the web UI you'll see that it does not work that's because we still need to copy over the VPN configuration files and the certificate files so to do that go back to your Docker click the icon click stop the private internet access website will have the files that you need and I will include a link in the description below I've already downloaded the files to my server so I will just open the folder here when you download that file it'll be a compressed zip file you'll need to extract that file into another folder on your system inside that folder once extracted you to find a list of countries with openvpn files within in the end you'll need one location for your VPN to connect to unfortunately port forwarding is not available in the United States so if you're located us then I would choose the closest location outside of the US Canada has Montreal Ontario Toronto and Vancouver other options are France the UK Denmark Belgium Sweden Netherlands and numerous others I'll leave a list of all the ones that support port forwarding in the description since Ontario IO is the closest to me I will be choosing that one you'll also need a couple other files in here it will be the C RSA 248 CRT file and the cr. rsa2 48. pem file once you have your country and those two other files selected go ahead and copy those and then we are going to browse to the app data folder on your unraid server in this case mine is back SLB SL 10.0.0 do11 and then app data and if it's a new setup it's going to say it cannot find it that is because it's not shared yet if that is the case for you go ahead and cancel out of that go up to shares find your appd share open that up scroll down and where it says export you want to change the no to yes hidden then click apply click done now go ahead and browse back to that in your file explorer again back SLB 10.0.0 do11 for Slash and since it's hidden you have to type out the name of the file or the name of the share in this case app data and there you'll see the binhex delou VPN open that up inside of that you will see the openvpn folder open that one up and this is where you'll be pasting those three files just like that all right now that the files are in there let's let's go back to our Docker and on the binhex delu VPN go ahead and start that back up click the icon again and go to the web UI might have to hit refresh a few times while it boots up but eventually it comes up and it's going to prompt you the login screen the default login is delu all in lowercase on The Connection Manager you should be able to just hit close so delus is up and running so now we need to go into preferences and make a few adjustments under the downloads folder we have to tell it where it's going to download the files too and if you remember back in the container setup the location was let me bring it up here um Ed it the container path slata is what we're going to need go back here so it's going to be SL data and then the name of your download folder and inside of that download folder we had created a couple other folders in this case since this is where the files are going to be downloading too these will be incomplete so this would be the incomplete folder and then once it is completed downloaded you want to select this check boox here and then you move the completed files to SL data SL completed then under the options here if you want to prioritize first and last pieces you can go ahead and select that it's not necessary but I like to do that click apply and we'll jump down to Q This is where you'll set up your cues your seating and your share ratios the total number of active Tor you can adjust here we'll make this 10 how many are downloading at a time three that's fine and this will all depend on your internet speed and your connection seaing is five these are all fine for me so for seaing rotation the time ratio and the time I set those all to zero and under the share ratio I've set that also to zero and then once it's done you want to have it pause hit apply then okay all right down to plugins if yours comes up empty here which mine did originally you'll have to go back and restart your Docker container and then log back in and once it's been restarted you can go back to preferences and then plugins and everything should be listed here and what we are looking for in here is extractor and label select those hit apply and then okay go back to preferences and now you'll see extractor and label listed as options on the left hand side go down to extractor and this is going to be the location that the zipped files get unzipped into so in this case it's going to be back SL data unzipped click apply there and then the label is just used for other programs such as radar and sonar you are all set here so hit okay so now delou VPN is set up there's a browser extension that I really enjoy called delus siphon let me show you how that works to get that installed open up your web browser and since I've already got it installed on my main web browser I installed Google Chrome just to show you how it works I'll leave a link in the description that takes you right to the extension but another easy way of finding it is just going up to the address bar and typing in delug siphon extension and search for that and it's typically the first one in the list there so you open that up click add to Chrome add the extension it'll download and install so now we need to set that up to do that click on the little funnel icon go to Options under the URL you want to enter the URL of your Deluge container in this case it's going to be HTTP for me HTTP colon if I can get that right there 10.0.0 do1 and the port number that was assigned to it in this case is 8112 and then the pass password the default is Deluge the notifications the input and the tracker options should all be selected everything else should be fine there go ahead and hit save now let's test it out we'll go to the Linux Mint repository and download a torrent file from them so what you do is once you find the file you want you right click on it go to delu siphon click add and coming back to the delu client you'll see that it is already in the list here and it is downloading if we go to our download folders if you look in completed it won't be there because it's not completed yet it's still downloading it'll be in the incomplete folder there it is once it's all done and downloaded it will move from the incomplete to the completed if it was a compressed zip file then it would get processed inside of this unzipped file before it's moved to the completed folder and while that's downloading let's talk about the delus desktop just a little bit on the left filter side you have the ability to filter out all the Torrens the active ones or the ones that are downloading simply clicking on the category there will'll filter them accordingly in the center section you'll have the list of all the files that delou is handling the name is listed here the size progress download speed upload speed the estimated time of arrival for sonar and radar the labels will be listed there across the top you've got add which you can just add in a URL or a file you can remove them here pause all of them resume all of them move it up or down and the preferences we've already played with if you click C on a file below it'll give you the details of that file the status shows you the current status of the file under files it shows you the files that are contained within that peers shows you all the peers that are sharing that file to you under options it allows you to change the options for just that one file so now that the file is downloaded fully and it's paused it should have been moved from the incomplete to the completed folder let's check open up the download folder go to incomplete and it's not there we go back to completed and there it is just as we expected it to do what VPN service do you use let me know in the comments I feel private internet access VPN is one of the best out there combined with Deluge and you have a reliable torrent client and a secure VPN service you can't go wrong we'll see you in the next one
