How To Sublimate Wood Using Polycrylic

what's going on guys flow crafts here and today i'm going to be showing you how to turn this into that now this is some random family that i found on google i literally just typed in free to use family portrait and that popped up so sorry family if this is you but i'm using you because it said it was free so whatever anyway i'm going to use this other side for the demonstration in today's video so i'm going to be sublimating this with the polycrylic now a lot of people seem to want to call this polycrylic i can see why it says cry and they also cry a lot so you put two and two together anyway so first thing you're going to want to do is sand this down it's already pretty smooth but i thought it would work if i don't sand it down because it was smooth and it didn't work so yeah you're going to want to sand this down pretty good before you start then once you get it sanded down i already did that outside i'm not going to do it inside because what's the point of that um so yeah uh i recommend using one of these um because i use just a regular paintbrush and it left streaks like even when i finish and i i press the image on you can still see the like streaks in it and it just didn't look too good so anyway whatever so you're going to want to get a good good amount on the brush for the first coat and you're going to be putting two coats on here so yep just get a good amount for the first coat brush it all in there good nothing special if you don't know how to paint you probably shouldn't be doing this but you know hey i don't judge it's the first time for everything you know what i'm saying so finish that up that looks pretty good you can't really oh yeah you could tell oh yeah so yeah we're gonna let that dry for about five to ten minutes and you can visually see when it's dry so you'll know i mean but yeah we're gonna let that dry and then we'll be back to start the video back up to show you the next steps all right now it's time for the second coat so we're gonna go ahead and do that and the same exact way you did the first coat do the second coat now you're probably gonna see videos that you know they're gonna be like oh do five coats do freaking one coat and the best way to do it is just two coats because you know i've been experimenting with this for a little bit and pretty much watching other videos on how to do this and uh i found the best way to do it is just do two coats whatever and you'll be good to go after that and after this one this coat you're gonna let this sit for about let's just say 30 minutes to an hour a lot of people you're gonna see they're gonna say leave it sitting overnight i mean it takes an hour to dry so how much more dry is it going to get overnight when it's already dry you do the math you know but we're going to let this dry and then bring it to the heat press and i'll show you guys what to do from there all right guys so this is heating up what you're going to want to do is set the heat to 380 for 75 seconds and let me show you real quick i already got this lined up i'm shouldn't have to show anybody how to line something up if you don't know how there's really something wrong so i put it down i put a piece of paper underneath it so you don't get the freaking ink on this and then i put two pieces of paper over top of it just to protect this bad boy right here so yeah and then uh it's about ready to press and once i get that done i'll show you guys how to peel it i'm pressing it right now and i forgot to tell you you're going to want a pretty hard press on this because i made the mistake of not doing a hard press and it doesn't really work that good so yeah pretty hard press on this guys all right this is done it's really hot you might want some gloves i don't need gloves because i don't need gloves and don't try to peel it don't do the edges or anything bring it straight to water and i'll show you what to do there all right so what you do is rinse it under water you know rub it kind of get those edges and what you want to do is get this as wet as possible the paper as well as possible because that makes the peeling a lot easier and the paper doesn't rip onto the board because when it rips onto the board you're going to have a lot of ghosting and we don't want that so yep just get it really wet and then you start to peel it up and once you get that peel started do it slow and then just put the water on this side run it like that so run the water as you're peeling boom none of the paper stuck on there a lot of people i watch they just rip the paper off like they let it cool down and then rip the paper off and there's paper everywhere you don't want to do that now as you can see there's a lot of ghosting on it right now i'll show you how to get rid of that all right so what you do is you take a wet rat or a cloth i could i had to get a towel because i couldn't find a freaking rag and then you're just gonna wipe off that you know that uh ghosting all the white that you see people call it ghosting like when you're left on red you got ghosted no i'm just kidding but yeah just do it so you don't see any more little white spots we're not finished yet guys let me show you guys how to make this look perfect right now look at that it's not even bad not bad at all all right now let me go show you guys the last step all right and as you can see you have that ghosting coming back a little bit have no fear watch this take the polycrylic you want to get the same amount that you put on in the beginning rub that bad boy on there now this is a protective finish so for those of you that are going to be like oh we're using that for that's not gonna do anything oh yeah it is because it's a protective finish buddy trust me i know what i'm doing sometimes it might not look like it but i know exactly what i'm doing and then once this is finished drying it's going to look pretty darn good and i'll show you guys what it looks like when it's done drying don't worry but look at that right now it's pretty much just going to look like that but dry that looks pretty good and there you have it looks pretty good probably gonna dry for a little bit longer but just showing you guys what it looks like now and then i just did that one that one's still drying i just took it out and put a coat of the polycrylic on it hope this video helped
