let me show you how to stream on Kick first thing we need to do is make a kik account so you're going to go to kik.com and then go to the top right corner and click sign up if you've already made an account you can click the login button and log in with your credentials once you've signed up and logged in you might be brought to your creator dashboard but if you're not you can easily go to the top right corner and then click on your little picture and then click on Creator dashboard this might seem a little confusing at first but don't worry I'm going to make it as beginner friendly as possible also if you have any questions whatsoever feel free to comment them down below or you can follow me over on Kik and ask me when I'm live on stream but before we can do anything here we have to get our hands on what's called a streaming software for this video we'll be using OBS Studio which I'm sure you guys have probably heard of before but basically this is just going to allow us to control everything about our stream including our audio our game capture our webcam if you want one your alerts your chat everything so if you don't already have it make sure to go to OBS Studio which I'll leave Linked In the description down below and you're going to download it for your system once it's done downloading you're going to run the installation and open it and it should look something like this this is a brand new blank template and this little black Square here is basically your stream preview and what your viewers are going to be able to see if we look down under sources and click the plus button these are little puzzle pieces to our puzzle you can add your webcam you can add your game capture your alerts your chat everything is going to be under your sources and then scenes are collections of sources so if you want to have a scene of just chatting with just your camera and the chat you'll have a just chatting scene and then you can have a BRB scene which will just have a BRB overlay and you can make a bunch of scenes to fit whatever you need then you have your audio mixer where you'll be able to control your game audio and your microphone audio and then you have all your controls in the bottom right corner so the first thing we're going to do is go up to the top where it says help and then click check for updates to make sure we're on the latest update for OBS we currently are so we can click ok now this is going to be the part where everyone pulls out their hair but don't worry it's going to be super easy bring it to the bottom right corner and click on settings first thing we're going to do is go through the general and you don't really have to worry about anything here but if you'd like to make it into dark mode you can change the theme to Yami otherwise if you change it to light oh my God my eyes are bleeding so we're going back to Yami and as always if you want to save your changes just click apply now let's move on to the output settings so we can click on output on the left hand side and if you're looking at this thinking that this is going to be a headache it kinda is but we've made it super simple just for you if we look at the very top we're going to change the output mode from simple to Advanced which I know is counter-intuitive but just trust me on this now for these settings it's really going to depend on what graphics card you have usually you'll either have an Nvidia graphics card like I do or you'll have an AMD graphics card or you won't have either of those so you'll go with an option like x264 for the video encoder since I have an Nvidia card I'll be using this one right here Nvidia NVC h.264 and I'm pulling these settings directly from Kix official article on what settings to use for your graphics card so for NVIDIA graphics card you'll use these settings if you have an AMD card then you should be using this encoder as well as these settings right here and if you don't have either of these you can scroll up and use the x264 encoding options and you can use once again I'll leave this Linked In the description down below so you can take a closer look really the important one that you have to pay attention to is the bitrate I believe Kik has a cap between 8 000 to 10 000 kilobits per second so a nice sweet spot is about six thousand and if you have better internet speed and your internet can handle it you can bump it up to eight thousand but if your internet's kind of crappy then you can lower it down to five thousand four thousand and so on but these are the settings that we'll be using to get started but everyone's computer is different so if you have to tweak some settings that's totally fine and honestly Reddit is your best friend when it comes to this kind of tech stuff now we'll be going into the audio tab at the top and making sure that all of these tracks are at 320 kilobits per second so that way we get the best audio for our stream then we're going to click apply in the bottom right and move on to the audio Tab and this is where we're going to set up our microphone and our game audio so for your desktop audio usually if you're running on Windows it'll just be whatever the default is but if you know your game audio or your headphones is coming through a certain Port here then you can feel free to choose it now we can choose our microphone from the list by clicking on mic and then we can pick our microphone I'm using the pd400x which is the microphone I'm using now really like this microphone I also have a video in the top right corner if you want to check it out too and then you can just copy the other settings here so 48 kilohertz stereo and you don't really have to worry about anything at the bottom here so we'll just click apply and move on to the next one for the video tab your base canvas resolution is whatever the resolution of your monitor that you're playing on I'm playing on a 1080p monitor so I'm going to choose 1080 at the end right here the output scaled resolution is what you want to stream to I want to stream 1080p 60 frames per second so I'm going to choose 1080 for this one and since my base and output resolutions are the same there's no need for a downscale filter but if yours are different I'd recommend choosing lancos because that's going to give you the best quality for your stream then for the common SPF value we're streaming at 60 frames per second so you're just going to make sure that's at 60. then we're going to click apply and move on to hotkeys hotkeys are just going to make your life a little easier because if you wanted to start your stream with a single key press like let's say the asterisk key then whenever I press that key it's going to start the stream but you'd have to make one for end and if you'd like to toggle so if we press asterisk again anytime we press asterisks Jesus has such a hard word to say anytime you press Asterix it's going to start the stream you press it again it's going to end the stream but if you don't want to do that you can click these little clear buttons and not have to worry about it but they have so many different hotkeys that you can feel free to choose from and make your life that much easier so we're going to click apply now we're gonna go to the stream tab we're going to change the service from whatever it's on to custom and now we got to go back to kick real quick I logged in with my dummy account so I don't have to bother my current kick followers with this video but once you're logged into your Kik account and you're under your creator dashboard you're going to go to the settings tab and you can click on stream key now we're going to copy this stream URL with this little button here we're going to paste it under the custom server and then we're gonna go back then we're gonna copy this stream key but don't show this stream key to anybody otherwise they'll be able to take advantage of your stream without your permission so copy the stream key and then we're going to paste the stream key in OBS where it says stream key then we'll click apply and ok now let's make a basic scene I booted up a game just to display how we're going to capture this so once you're in OBS Studio we're gonna go to sources we'll click the plus button and in order to capture our game we actually have three different options in case one of them doesn't work for you the first option is clicking on the display capture we're going to click OK and this is going to capture everything on your screen so if you have two monitors and you have OBS on your second Monitor and your game on your first then you can capture your entire monitor if you'd like to do that but if you don't want to capture your entire display that's totally fine we can go and click on the source click delete and ok to get rid of a source we can click on the plus button and we have two other options we have the game capture we can click OK it'll go capture any full screen application which if that doesn't work you can click on it again click on capture specific window go to that window which is hollow Knight give it a couple seconds click OK and you see that it's captured our game however sometimes if you're having issues with that you can go into your actual game settings so for example I'll go to options I'll go to video and then you can change whether it's full screen borderless windowed borderless full screen and you can mess around with the different video settings until you get it to capture or if you prefer we have the third option which is adding a window capture click ok then we can capture the hollow Knight which you can see right now isn't working but if we change our capture method from automatic to Windows 10 and up it's going to capture our game like so so you can use whichever one you'd like by the way if this video is helping you drop a like so it can help other people as well but now you can see that our game audio is getting picked up in this little audio mixer and you can drag the volume up and down with these sliders and you can see my microphones getting picked up as well but I want to add my webcam so I'm going to click this little plus button under sources video capture device we can call it webcam and now we're going to find a webcam from this little list I'm using the good webcam to record this video already so I'm gonna have to use this crappy one on my laptop so please bear with me but you can see it's captured it already but you have all of your different webcams here I'm going to click OK and what you can do is just drag it over your screen but one thing to notice is that your sources overlap so since my webcam is on top of my game capture it's over it but if I drag my webcam below my game capture it's behind it so keep that in mind I'm going to drag it back up or I'm actually going to drag this back down but I'm going to click on the webcam you can use the corners to resize it and you can hold alt on the keyboard to crop it so you can get it just how you want and then I'm just going to put it in the corner for now and it'll snap right in and I think this is a pretty good starting point to get us beginner started now let's add our kick chat to OBS so we can type and read our viewers messages so we'll go to the very top of OBS Studio click on the docs tab click on custom browser sources and we're going to add a doc name we're just going to call this one kick chat for the URL we're going to put in kik.com forward slash your username please stop using my username otherwise you'll be using my chat room and not yours which is why I see so many messages saying testing testing one two three please use your username otherwise you're gonna get my chat room so put kik.com forward slash your username forward slash chat room so once you've done that we're gonna click apply it's going to bring your chat room and hopefully not mine if you paid attention and we're gonna drag it anywhere you want in OBS I'm going to drag it to the left so it docks in there you can adjust the size with this little slider thing but you'll notice that it says disconnected so we can't actually type to people but we can fix that if we add another doc we'll just call this one Kik and the URL is going to be kick.com we'll click apply and then we're going to click the login button at the top you're going to put in your login information and log in and then it'll log you into this little kick window which is great because we're gonna X out of it we're gonna click Ok We're going to click the delete button on just the bottom one click apply now we're going to right click our kick chat box click refresh and it'll change from disconnected to send message because we have successfully logged into our kick chat so I'll put testing and you'll see that I'm able to type type in my chat room if you guys are having any issues with this chat room because you might have an underscore in your name so let's say my name is cpaw's underscore music try replacing that underscore with a dash instead I've heard that fixes it and it might be an issue for those using underscores but once you have it set up to how you want it you can click close And if you accidentally close it you can click OK and you can find it under your docs tab at the very bottom to whatever you named it like kick chat and you'll see it pop up right here but if for whatever reason you don't want to see it you can click this little x button and it'll be out of your way now we got our webcam our game and just a basic setup ready for us to go so since we've already linked our kik account in our settings under the stream and custom like I just showed you earlier we can simply hit the start streaming button under my webcam right here so we'll click Start streaming it's going to connect give it a couple seconds now it says stop streaming because the stream has started you can see that our bitrate and everything is good because this green little square if it's a red square you're going to want to lower your settings like your bit rate but we got the green so that's good to go so let's go over to kick we're going to click on the stream tab in our creator dashboard you can see that it says we're streaming it has our stream preview right here which you can full screen it looks like but because we're under the auto tab but now we've changed the resolution to 1080p 60 frames per second which is our OBS settings and now it looks crispy and clear so I'm going to unful screen this I'm actually going to pause this so we don't use up too much of our bandwidth but you can see we have our time live our viewers our followers we're currently streaming we can click on the edit stream info at the top right change your title your category your language you know we gotta have 18 plus because you know we get a little Saucy sometimes and then we're going to click save so that's how you change your title and your category you can also have other actions here like hosting but you need to have at least five viewers currently and hidden behind my webcam ever so delightfully is a couple other channel actions you can feel free to use and then you have your chat right here your activity feed and your mod actions but most importantly pay attention when you're ready to end your stream go back to OBS Studio then we're going to click stop streaming now we're going to go back to kick we're going to give it a couple seconds to work its magic it's gonna say we're still live for a little bit it's gonna say channel is currently offline even though it says streaming it just has to have about a minute or two of buffer time so we're gonna wait for it to end the actual stream on kicks end and while we're waiting for that we can click back to kick in the bottom left corner we're gonna go to the top right corner we're gonna go to channel you can see that it says we're live but we're currently offline because it has to do that little buffer period so give it about a minute or two and refresh it then when it's all done we'll go back to the videos Tab and you can see our new stream is right here but if you want to have your chat over your game or set up alerts whenever you get a follower or even if you want to have a cool overlay design on your stream then watch this playlist to the side of me it's going to hold your hand step by step for everything you need to know about kick streaming but my name's Cody and I'll see you in the next one
