[Music] alrighty so a few of our subscribers have asked what is a proper way to get the air out of your lines before you add refrigerant so if you own a mini split and you come to realize that you probably didn't install it correctly or didn't use nylog for example on your connections or any other method that we have mentioned on our youtube channel then you're probably going to end up adding more refrigerant and to do that you're going to you want to make sure that your hoses are free of air so first i just wanted to show you because i have all three here the difference is at the ends so some of these like you'll see here have something in the middle that you're used to seeing at the connections on the air conditioning unit the best way i can describe it to someone is look at your tires on your automobile or a bicycle it's basically a little device that when you press it it will release the pressure you don't have that on the other end so a common mistake if you haven't done this before is putting this on your gauges when these ends right here should be at the source being the air conditioning system or the refrigerant the tank of refrigerant these are the ones that are going to go to your gauges okay now that we just discussed which ends go where and you have your connections on your gauges you want to make sure you follow these steps carefully so that you can get the air out of these lines so you don't have any air going into the system so when you connect this end for example to your mini split from here to there there's going to be air inside this hose you want to get it out you don't want that air in your system because remember if you're going to add refrigerant you're going to be adding air into the system you don't want that so remember you have your adapter that you want to use with your mini splits and the adapter is kind of like the same way this this side here is going to go into your air conditioner and this side here is going to go here so once once you put this into your air conditioner or your heat pump you're going to tighten up right here okay and then what you're going to do here is make sure instead of having this all the way tightened you're going to leave this cracked just like that so you crack this here first and then you connect this to your air conditioner tighten it up it doesn't matter if you have the adapter in first i like to put it in first put the adapter in first tighten here and what's going to happen is you're going to push up onto the air conditioning system and you're going to release refrigerant this way okay i'm trying to make this as easy and plain old english language so you're going to push refrigerant this way and since this is cracked you're going to feel a little bit of refrigerant here just leak like and then all you need to do is just tighten it what you did is basically vacated the air out of the hose so now there's no hope no air in here is pure refrigerant once you have that done the next thing you need to do is your yellow hose also needs to be cleared out of any air that's in it basically it's the same process so here we have a refrigerant tank it's actually empty there's no refrigerant in it but i'm just going to show you if you can just tighten it up in there like i'm doing now and then you want to make sure that here instead of being tightened all the way up it's just cracked so i'm just going to crack it a little bit like i did there and then when you turn this over okay like this to get your refrigerant into the system you're going to open the valve when you open the valve you're going to feel a little bit of air coming out of there because like i said it's just air right now feel that you can hear that and then you're just going to tighten it there you go so in essence you have now cleared your hoses from any air that could have potentially gone inside your hvac system your mini split air conditioner or mini split heat pump you don't need to worry about the the red hose okay because most mini splits unless it's a bigger unit the one ton units just have you only have to deal with the blue i'm trying to make this as easy as possible not confusing anyone with high side low side although you can see that you got your high side here and your low side here so your high side is not going to be used on most smaller mini splits there are some bigger ones that have them both but you're only going to need your low side to add refrigerant and then you just want to make sure that there's no air in it now don't worry about what you see here because when we're basically when we're done with your hoses just to avoid any contaminants from getting into it when you're completely done what you want to do is you take it out of your unit so this came off of the unit and you're going to just connect it so that you don't have any contaminants getting inside the hose now don't worry about what this is is this connected here no it's not as you can see there's nothing in there this is just an adapter used in the automobile industry so it's for other refrigerants and you just keep it like this and you're not going to have any contaminants in it when you're storing it away so hopefully this made it easy for everyone to understand i tried to do it in a slow paced easy to understand manner so when you're getting ready to add refrigerant into your system you are 100 sure that you have no air in your hoses thank you for watching if you have any questions or comments please post it below please remember to subscribe to our channel and we will post links where you can get all this all these uh tools including the adapter that you're gonna use for a mini split so you can get this done all by yourself thank you for watching [Music]
