so those right there that's the watermelon plant I have about five six watermelon plant in this garden and this area I didn't prune them and that was my mistake this was another watermelon plant and I'm going to show you what is called the side shoots that comes out so that's the main stem running this is your Leaf between your leaf and your main stem just like a cucumber plant just like a tomato plant this is you could call it a sucker you could call it a side shoot this part will grow and it will be an extended couple feet and it will produce leaves it'll also produce your uh watermelon our plant is about three feet and that's the main stem and as I'm talking to you look I know the plant look I have a baby watermelon right there hopefully the bees pollinate that I could pollen it so now what we're gonna do we have a little over we have way over 10 leaves so what we're gonna do I recommend come starting from your main point right here and I I love to free up this area and I like no energy to help this Leaf Grow we don't need these Leaf sorry plant and now we're gonna focus on the main stem so as the main stem has grown we have leaves leaves and then look right here we have our side shoot now we if if the energy is coming from the root it will come here and then start focusing more energy over here instead of focusing energy over there so what do you do Bruno real close and that one baby leave too if you have a male flower you could leave it and um what are we going to do is I remove two I'm gonna remove two more so I'm gonna remove Four Leaves from a three foot plant and I remove side shoots so if the plant is about same thing with my cucumber design does if the plant is about this plant reach about seven feet I'm gonna remove at least four feet from the root with the side piece the side shoots I remove four feet so this way I get to walk I'm into our container one I just wanted to show you and check on it I didn't get to check in it like so you see that we have three gallon container see this x right here plant don't need to whip keep back energy there so we're gonna come and remove a couple leaves and I'm pretty sure right now we have some side suckers shoot oh man oh it's probably the mirror one of my kids we stepped on it now that is a bummer right there that's a big bummer uh it's gonna make it it'll make it once our main tip the growing Point here that's good that's healthy uh it's just gonna require a lot more water now with that damage uh watermelon plants pretty strong see I have my watermelon still there um what I'm gonna do I'm gonna remove to ease up the to have more water Florida and stuff I'm going to remove another two more leaves here and look we have a side piece ready to come out there so I remove here you can see I removed like at least about six leaves now and we do have about you know over 10 leaves growing and we're gonna we're gonna keep an eye on it so that's our damage right here but if you look right here it does look green and it looks it looks healthy here so look like we're gonna make it I'm bummed out about that all right it's not the end of the world we'll fix that so now I come over here and you could see they're growing through the fence and stuff they're running all over so I do have a couple of plants here and I do have to harvest later too well it's getting really hot now so what do you mean root what do you see your root is and look this is another side shoot was ready to grow this plant is probably over uh four or five feet gone already uh so what to do now we're gonna come here and remove this side shoot before this keep growing before you start cutting out all your side shoots you want to see how far it grow this one already went to good distance so if you're late and your side shoots are really far um don't don't prune it out leave it let it grow it's already focus it this one here look it's about a feet we don't need it we already have a lot of stuff growing so you could remove the small ones see that and then we have another Leaf here I like to free up this area more airflow easy for me to water there's nothing touching there and what you could do look before this other side shoot same thing what I do I remove a leave and then I remove another side shoots it shoots uh so yeah and it's kind of free up and then we're gonna come here remove this other one so it's let's check this one see this look this is another small one was about to run out so think about it your main stem is here running right and then you get another side shoot and from this side shoot it was already produced on another side shoot so literally look look at this I'm going to show you look it takes over your whole garden so this is going to take me a couple days one to two days I'm gonna come in every hour to figure out what to prune out and what not to prune and just follow the same thing that I did just prune out a couple of the the leaves here and then remove some of the side like suckers side shoots and let it just run after and do its stuff if you have a small garden you have to prune and it's pruning a watermelon plant does not hurt the plant it actually helps the plant a lot think about it and it don't first of all don't make watermelon pruning complicated it's not complicated watermelon pruning is just like cucumber plant or a tomato plant pruning it's not a big deal watermelon just go crazy they just grow a lot more but now now this is the one thing you have to understand too if you don't prune your watermelon plant you have to make sure your plant is well fed it has to be organic fertilizer it has to be either comp bowls red soil fresh soil and you have to water more and water constantly if you don't take care of your watermelon plant this plant is growing over eight feet producing so much side shoots and it's trying to grow a watermelon which is a big fruit so you get to think about it how much energy this plant use to keep all the leaves alive to keep all the water flowing through all the stems and then growing this watermelon so if you're not taking care of your plant a lot of your watermelon will rotten the plant sometimes the leaves will turn yellow because it's probably lack of nutrition lack of water so that's what that's another thing you have to do so let's think about it you need time you need nutrition and you need water is now if you prune you don't need to do that much prune couple feet about the prune three feet remove all the side shoots let the side shoots grow from the other half of the plant so this way the energy will be flown from the first half and then basically Shear push more energy towards the front of your plant and this way all your slide shoots will have more energy and you will have more Harvest this will give you a bigger harvest in less time I'm gonna keep you guys updated and I'm going to show you how I'm harvesting multiple watermelon this year and how fast it's gonna grow if you watch my videos you know stuff grows really fast with the pruning it works really fast I'm not here sitting and letting you know hey prune it's going to grow fast but then I have no evidence to back it up as you see my video then I'm actually behind I'm two to three days I'm two days probably behind off pruning this will probably be my third day actually and I had in my next video coming up I will be harvesting that gray zucchini and I'm gonna stir frying and show you how I'm gonna do it a little Caribbean style and it's really delicious and I'm gonna leave everything in the description so you could go ahead
