hi guys welcome back junior Raymond here and I'm at the training center in turbotech again after a long three-week trip out on PVA tour we just talked about two-handed bowling in the advantages and the disadvantages to that one-handed bowlers are still the mass majority of bowlers so let's take a quick look how a bowler should release the ball with their thumb be right back [Music] [Music] alright guys welcome back we're going to talk a little bit about how to release the ball with your thumb everybody knows that the majority of bowlers are actually one-handed they put their thumb and their fingers in the ball we do have quite a few two handers starting to come out and really give that a try they're seeing an awful lot of people have success you're Belmonte Simons and Spence and troupe and then there's there's a bunch more who are doing well at the levels of the PBA as well but the big majority of bowlers still use their thumb so let's talk a little bit about how we need to release with our thumb the big mistake that I see an awful lot of people especially like the people that come through here for lessons is they want to squeeze the ball with both their fingers and their thumb and they want to claw at it and they want to go clamping down on that ball and then when they release it they just release with both their fingers and their thumb and they just let it roll off their hand the problem with that is if you looked at the videos that I did before about reverie and proper release you'll notice that in order to create that Rev rate the power the revolutions that you want to create because that is a big thing for a lot of people as they want to see their ball with higher evolutions to be able to do more things with a bowling ball like some of the big power players do what you want is you actually need your thumb to release first and then your fingers release after and rotate through it and the quicker you can get that transition to happen the higher it is but if you're squeezing and gripping with your knuckles basically you have to release and if you're not doing it the exact same way every single time you're gonna see a different result every single so that's when you see a lot of fluctuation with reverie you'll see somebody have a 400 rpm reverie and then they'll drop to 350 just on a random shot because they don't release it the same way as before or there's their rotation changes a little bit because they change how they released it that's from the time before so when we talk about releasing the ball most people like to do is you can see what the indent they squeeze in with their finger and they indent in like that and then they squeeze with their thumb and they go this way as well so now we're squeezing this way and the only way to let go of the ball the ball won't come off my hand as long as I'm squeezing is to release the ball okay so we have to release the ball okay so when we do that we have to then get to the bottom of the swing release and then rotate the proper way however we see fit or whatever we want to repeat it's really hard to do that the same way every time what I want to see when we move this out of the way what I like to see is when you get to the bottom of swing I want you to squeeze instead of going this way I want you to squeeze this way push your thumb back and put the pressure here because then here when you get to the bottom of the swing and you're not squeezing in this way and you get here when you get to the bottom of the swing with the pressure of the swing of your arm swing the ball will release you automatically so if I use my arm for an example if I'm squeezing this way when I get to the bottom of the swing I have to release with my thumb and then the ball can come off and again if I'm not doing it the same way every time it's going to be different every time you're gonna see a lot of inconsistencies but if I'm squeezing this way with my thumb pointing backward and I get to the bottom of the swing the force of the swing will force that ball to come off my hand without me doing anything with my thumb you get to the bottom of the swing and the ball will come off your hand by itself in that proper in the same spot every time you'll want to get used to squeezing that way and putting the pressure here so that way you don't have a ridge here that's gonna hold the ball up from getting past that knuckle because then you have to release and I can't like I keep repeating that because I want you to understand that you don't want to squeeze this way I want you to squeeze this way so the ball releases you I'm sure you've had lessons at some point and somebody has said the ball should let go of you you don't let go to the ball to a point that's very true you should be able to just get to the bottom of the swing and the ball just comes off your hand at that spot you just manipulate where your fingers are now again the quicker you make that transition happen from the thumb releasing before the fingers the quicker that transition happens the higher your rev rates going to be so if you can master how you squeeze the ball this way you're gonna have a whole lot more success let's take a look at some video and I can show you exactly the difference between knuckling and squeezing with your thumb the proper way alright so if I take a ball you can see I have it taped up here this is so you can see the revolutions so if I take this ball and I go ahead and I squeeze and I knuckle it like this and I'm really squeezing it you notice I'll have a hard time getting my hand to release the ball properly and doing the right thing with it so if I go through you can see how slow that rotates that basically just rotates because of because of the ball hitting the lane and basically rolling forward that's it so now if I release properly a full rack just because if I release properly squeeze the opposite way you can see how much quicker that ball rolls alright so what we need to focus on now that you know is we need to focus on this part of our thumb not this up here we don't want the top part of the thumb creating the hold for us we don't want us to hold on to it gripping it this way we want to push the nail to the backside of the hole and if you feel like you're gonna drop the ball and it makes you do this that should tell you that you need to change your fit somehow somehow you need to change the shape of the thumb hole the bevel something put some tape in it like we talked about in my other video about increasing the feel of your ball put some tape a little bit higher in the thumb hole to put it up put the pressure up on this part of your thumb rather than down here this way you can make it feel like the balls releasing you and you don't have to release the ball because if you have to release it every single time human error comes in quite a bit and you're gonna do it different just about every single time makes it a whole lot harder to repeat shots so make sure you subscribe to this channel if these videos help you please let me know if you've got other video ideas of things you want to learn please let me know and we will try to get to them as soon as possible but until next time guys subscribe to this channel go over to turbo two-in-one grips page subscribe to theirs as well and we're you're gonna see an
