guys welcome back to another episode of Atlas survival shelters today we are going to do a video about a small solar generator called the Kodiak and bringing it to me is another youtuber called city prepping who's just about an hour half from me and he's been repping these things for a while and he has a popular YouTube channel and this particular device right here got over a million views that went viral on his channel so I contacted him I said Chris come on over here and show me how this little generator is gonna run my bunker because people are always asking me how do i power your little bunker so Chris take it away you know thanks I appreciate for appreciate you allowing me to come on and talk about this on your channel so the energy Kodiak is a device that I've been personally interested in for quite some time I was able to get a hold of one a little over a year and a half ago they sent me this particular unit and this is our first generation now I've been using this one for like said a little over a year and a half and I've actually put it through a lot of tests I've found to be extremely useful essentially what it is as you know the name implies a solar generator effectively you can hook this up to up to 600 watts of solar panels or you can plug into a wall unit or even a cigarette plug in on your vehicle you can charge this now essentially it's a large lithium battery with an inverter and the ability to you know actually control heat issues for example when you use this a lot and you've got heat issues that can actually cool it down so they've got a lot of Engineering and Technology in this one of the things that I really really like about this unit compared to a lot of the competition on the market is the weight the weight comes in on this at barely over 20 pounds so for that this is 20 pounds yep I didn't even think it weighed that much I mean it doesn't that's 20 pounds that's 20 film I'm just stronger than I look I guess okay alright a lot of the competition in the market they almost usually double the weight and they're very difficult you have to usually will them around with a little car now one of the things that I also like about this unit and especially when you think about it from the perspective of using in a bunker is expandability on the side you've got two plugins and all okay I'll turn it here you know over here there's a little ring red thing a little black thing so you can tie two of these together essentially what you do is you can put on batteries on the side things like a GM typical DC batteries you can expand out a bank you know it's means you want it so the inverter is in Harry's so you can just keep adding batter exactly okay so that's good enough yeah so imagine from a bunker perspective if you've got or need you know to actually you know have lighting you some of the other things you mentioned you know air filtration heating water you could actually plug this in and you know if you had a battery bank you would build extend it off for a long period of time obviously if you need to recharge it again you can put up to six hundred watts of solar panels you can run things like a refrigerator just off one charge an 18 cubic foot refrigerator refrigerator you can power it for up to I believe thirty six hours off just one charge which is pretty substantial you can run a washing machine so while it's small it packs a big punch I was kind of surprised again this is a lithium battery technology which is at the moment of recording this video the best battery technology at least sport private use and one of the things that I really appreciate about it over a traditional gas generator is as long as you've got sunshine and you have solar panels you in effect having a you know an infinite source of power you can keep going you don't have to worry about what are we gonna do when we run out of gasoline or whatever you know finite fuel source that you're using the front has a lot of different plugins effectively you know you've got the USB chargers you've got cigarette lighter and you know you know different plug-in ports what's it what's this plug is if I get 150 it's a 15 amp RV believe it or not you could actually plug an RV into that then that's got six of these 110 outlets yeah yeah the you know you can run 1500 watts continuous on this and what's this what's this a little thing up here doing so this is your little screen that really effectively tells you how much power you're pulling out so somebody wants one of these how do they that go they go to city prep rate or they go to Kodiak and put in the code you just get yeah they go to energy tech comm and again I'll provide you with a link okay we'll put that below energy calm and then put in the code for city prepping city prepping it's just one word and you get 20% off and so well you coming you've sold hundreds of these haven't you three so yeah I've sold a fair amount of the units and it's you know it's interesting it's like what you do in your channels you find products that you feel are quality that you feel comfortable recommending to your audience this is one of those items that I've been using like I said a little over a year now and it's something I felt very comfortable promoting on my channel again I get offered a lot of different products from a lot of different companies and this is one of those ones that I really enjoyed using a lot it's it's definitely served a perfect let me tell you what I like about this as you can see here this is my wine a dough which he's showing on the screen right now as you notice it's not a very big bunker so you don't have a lot of space inside and you don't have really underfloor storage in most of the NATO series now you can order with underfloor storage but if you don't that means you're going to be in a bunker where everything's around you and the fact that this thing is the size of a melba it's not even the size of a mailbox and it doesn't feel like it weighs 20 pounds because I can pick it up like nothing so it feels like it weighs like 15 pounds to me but in the fact that it will run the shelter for the amount of time that you would need you need a minimum of like for 48 hours in a bunker and you're going to get the 48 hours out of the system before even they've got to go out of the bunker and probably check on your solar panels that see if their 84 recharging but you know again if you were thinking from the perspective of using this in a bunker you would definitely want to expand it out and again that's one of the beautiful options of this and one of the things I like about the new k2 that's coming out this one you cannot expend it with lithium batteries but the new one you can they're gonna now add that as an option where you can expand out with lithium and again lithium offers a lot of advantages over the typical battery technology okay so it's February 15 2019 when will this k2 come out I believe they start shipping in May and again okay you're gonna go this summer yeah or someone so the pre-orders I believe gonna stop and this is a 1500 watt 1500 watt continuous yes okay and and what did this one retail for when they were selling it bleedin 1900 1900 so here telling me it got stronger and got cheaper well they've done a lot of improvements yeah and again it's only limited time they're gonna do the cheap price okay so it's a special that people need once that time line passes that balloon that's gonna go to 1600 so one of the primary selling points when I begin to look at generators for a long-term prepping especially if there is a situation where the grid goes down for a prolonged period of time is you know OPSEC is number one off SEC operational security especially if you're in a bunker when you're concerned about not drawing attention as you mention in our discussion today if you're in a bunker you don't want people to find out about your blowout the other it says yes makes no sound is there's no sound so we're a traditional gas generator as a noise associated with it and fumes now what's something like this again when they're selling points again was off SEC your no noise no fumes if you have to be mobile say you for whatever reason you don't adjust and leave the bunker today yeah if you have to leave the bunker and again I realized that there are technologies if you did it yourself to build your own solar setup it's gonna be cheaper but it's not worth it but again if you have something this compact that's engineered that you can be mobile with to me that's a huge selling point when I'm looking from the perspective of if I have to bug out and go somewhere else unless you're an MIT engineer guys don't even try to do it like with my mono vaults when I made them out of PVC to bury my guns it was cheaper to buy the mono vault so take the man at his word yeah it's again you know I trusted other engineers that know what they're doing versus what I'm trying to put together and again if you wanna do it yourself there are options out there but I just like the fact that it's already thought through and built properly so again the k2 that they're coming out with there are a lot of improvements and enhancements on this and again I've been impressed with this the first generation so I'm really excited to see what they're gonna do with that k2 well I'm excited to see it so we're gonna try it out on the bunkers and if it works it gives you guys one inexpensive option to run your little NATO safe or your NATO series bunkers that we make that of course some of them start under ten thousand dollars so this answers the problem of needing power in a tight space guys thanks for watching this video I hope you enjoyed this video on the Kodiak generator I know I'm impressed got I love you and I'll see you in the next video
