director of fast track   training and today we're going to go through the  life in the uk test with you let's get started   okay so the first thing that we're going to do is  we're going to look at the questions and answers   once we've gone through the questions and answers  we'll go through the presentation then we'll go   back to the questions and answers i guarantee  you'll enjoy the training a lot more this way   question number one when did  hunter-gatherers first come to england   ten thousand years ago six thousand years ago  four thousand years ago or two thousand years ago   the correct answer is ten thousand years ago and  don't worry guys i'm gonna i'm gonna explain it   and then we're gonna do it again so if you get it  wrong now don't worry we're going to do it again   so just go through it first time we're going to  go through a second time how many years ago were   the first farmers in england 10 000 years ago 6  000 years ago 4 000 years ago or 2 000 years ago   the correct answer is six thousand years ago  okay let's put these in the correct order this   doesn't come in the exam but we do practice  it in the training uh with our classes so if   you come to our classes we practice this with  you to help you understand a little bit better   the vikings the iron age the romans the stone age  the normans the anglo-saxons or the bronze age   the correct answer is the stone age the bronze  age the iron age the romans the anglo-saxons   the vikings and the normans again don't worry  i'm gonna cover all these you're gonna love it   where were the vikings from norway denmark italy  india or pakistan the correct answer is norway   in denmark where was queen boudicca from italy  germany icini or pakistan the correct answer is icini very good what did hadrian build  to keep the scottish away from england   a giant wall a big castle an electric fence  or a large fleet of ships the correct answer   is a giant wall the picks were the ancestors of  what people the welsh the english the scottish   or the americans the correct answer is the  scottish what did the romans bring to england   plants and animals roads structure of law all of  the above the correct answer is all of the above   what year did the romans leave england 810 ad  610ad 410ad or 2016 ad the correct answer is   410 a.d where did the jutes the  angles and the saxons come from   north europe south europe north america  or south america the correct answer is   north europe or northern europe when  did the vikings arrive in england   878 a.d 789ad 410 a.d or 2016 ad the  correct answer is eight seven eight nine a d   who defeated the vikings in england tony blair  king alfred the great king mccalpin of scotland   or winston churchill the correct answer is  king alfred the great very good and what year   was the battle of hastings 1246 1066 or 1166 or  1966 the correct answer is 1066. that's going   to be very important for you who became king  after the battle of hastings sir francis drake   king alfred the great king mccalpin of scotland  or william the conqueror the correct answer is   william the conqueror all right so let's get  started then guys those questions i'm going to   cover in this presentation so sit back relax get  yourself a cup of tea close the door or open the   door and let your whole family in and watch it  with the family the kids love this stuff right   let's get started the united kingdom of great  britain and northern ireland the uk of gb and ni   england wales and scotland so in the united  kingdom there are four countries we have   england wales scotland and northern ireland so  we have england here in london we have scotland   here london is the capital scotland's capital is  edinburgh northern ireland's capital is belfast   wales capital is cardiff so how do we remember  this what's the easiest way we can make it we   can make a couple of rhymes up or some stories  so london is edinburgh i come from nottingham   in the east midlands here in the heart of the  midlands i come from nottingham robin hood city   where we take from the rich but we haven't quite  gotten around to giving to the poor in nottingham   that's nottingham there robin hood london  is the capital cardiff is the capital of   wales so cardiff is is is a city next to the ocean  and you can say cliffs are here cardiff cliffs   because it's next to the ocean cardiff cliffs  scotland is edinburgh edinburgh uh iceberg you can   say it's like ice like butter of ice why because  it's very cold in scotland so iceberg edinburgh   uh belfast in northern ireland now a very uh  trick that you can remember very easy ways belfast   ireland uh uh had a potato famine a long time ago  and a lot of people died and they were fasting it   was it was no food there was no potatoes so  this was belfast fasting you see yeah belfast uh because they were fasting so wales is  cardiff because it's next to the cliff   london because why not this uh i think in punjabi  they call it vlad i don't know i've heard people   say velar that means foreign or abroad i think  and scotland is edinburgh so cardiff belfast   edinburgh cardiff next to the cliffs belfast  because they were fasting from the potato famine   and edinburgh because it's like an iceberg it's so  cold in scotland and london because well there's   only one london capital of the world i suppose if  you're from london yes yes we all know everyone in   london is is a londoner and everyone outside  of london doesn't exist we know we know this   we are village people to you okay right  we're going to go back 10 000 years now   ladies and gentlemen to the ladies and  gentlemen to the earliest parts of britain   and we're going to go from 10 000 years ago  and bring it right down to the modern times   of margaret thatcher and tony blair and all these  things later on by the end of the presentation so   10 000 years ago were the hunter-gatherers in what  we call the stone age or in urdu punjabi pathology   this is very interesting because you can translate  this into your language stone age 10 000 years ago   hunter-gatherers hunter-gatherers another word for  them is called the shikari or the hunter-gatherers   so this is a long long long time ago and then  you have stonehenge in wiltshire which is six   thousand years ago which is the first farmers to  arrive in southeast europe now southeast europe   is where you have stonehenge in the county of  wiltshire now this comes on your test so if you   want to take some notes or you want to go onto our  website and start practicing these questions by   all means go for it where is stonehenge it's in  wiltshire how long ago was stonehenge built six   thousand years ago um where were the first farmers  that built stonehenge southeast europe so there's   three questions for you if you want to write those  down fantastic get a pen get a pen and paper write   these things down and make some good notes all of  my best students in my classes always write notes   they have loads and loads of notes so if you  want to pass this exam get your pen and paper   out let's get back to school right after the uh  stone age you have the bronze age 4000 years ago   now bronze is a mixture of two metals copper and  something else i think it's metals mixed together   i think it's copper and something else but this  is the time where where they stopped using stone   for the spears and the cutting utensils  and and the swords and they moved into   mixing metals to make bronze after the bronze  age which is four thousand years ago you have   the iron age loikizamano iron age where the  first coins are minted minting is making coins   now if you look at these pictures here you can  see they have the pictures of the kings on the   front and that's a question in your test as well  what do they have on the coins the first coins to   be printed they had the pictures of the kings the  big nose kings they have very large noses if you   can see here this man has a very big nose so he  has a he's the big nose king and that's what they   put on the front of the coins and they spoke the  celtic languages now the celtic languages is welsh   scottish irish and they had those languages  in the iron ages very ancient languages   the romans is 55 bc julius caesar try to conquer  england now bc stands for before christ christ   is at the year of zero bc is before christ  a d is ano domini which comes afterwards   so let's slow down we don't have to go very fast  we can go uh as slow as uh you like with this   um bc is before christ zero is just the  zero and a d is an odometer so it goes bc   zero then 43 a d the easiest way to remember  this and this is what one of my students said   very funny he says before christ is before the  baby of christ and anno domini is after the   delivery of the baby anno dominis so bc and then  anno domini yeah so 55 bc and then anno domini   okay all right so this is queen buddha  curve icini in the east of england and um   they defended against the romans now the  story goes um the romans came to england in   43 a.d and they found that the druids  were doing um uh they were doing   uh self sacrifices of human beings they were  killing humans and because they were killing   humans this was seen as um barbarism and  so when they killed all the druids the uh   queen boudicca and her tribe rose up against um  uh the romans and they took three to one they   they outnumbered the romans three to one and of  course queen boudicca herself her husband had died   uh the king uh and she uh inherited all of his  land but in in those times the romans believed   that women were not allowed to inherit land  they weren't allowed to own land and so the   romans came and confiscated her land from her  uh and abused her and her family her daughters   and beat them up and said no no no we're not  going to allow you to have land once that happened   um they rose and they rose an army and the story  goes that the army took all their family caravan   everything to the uh the fight against the  romans but the romans were very well defended   they were very well uh trained they had great  armor they had great training and they weren't   able to um beat the romans and the romans pushed  them back into the caravan surrounded the caravan   and killed all of the english warriors and their  family and children as well so this is a story   that you can remember about queen boudicca  she was captured and when she was captured   uh they um when she was captured they um  they they tried to take her back to italy   but she killed herself she ate poison um so there  are three questions for queen boudicca that other   stuff about the story is not on your exam but  it kind of helps you to remember a story and   we like to remember stories queen boudicca um her  story uh sorry her her questions in the exam is uh   um where is queen boudicca statue and if again  you're from london hello to all the londoners out   there this you'll know this is queen boudicca  statue on westminster bridge where was queen   buddha from she was from the east of england a  place called icini what did queen buddha could   do she defended against the romans so again let's  slow down three questions you need to remember   who is queen boudicca queen boudicca is the leader  of the icini sorry she's the leader of the english   tribes and where did queen buddha could come from  she came from isini east of england and what did   she do she defended against the romans and where  is her statue her statue is on westminster bridge okay let's talk about the romans now this is  hadrian's war now i don't know if this is true   but one of my students told me that uh  when uh they sent the uh the blueprint   for hadrian's wall to scotland the engineers  had it upside down so the book itself was like   upside down so they built it really deep into  the ground and not very high on the top i don't   know if this is true but it could be a story to  help you remember what hadrian's wall is so what   what were they doing to build hadrian's wall they  were trying to keep the scottish out of england   and the scottish were the ancestors they were  called the picks and this is emperor hadrian here   and this is the hadrian's war they're trying  to keep the scottish away from england   the romans left britain in ad410 and there were  new roads new plants and animals structure of law   um so the the and again you don't you don't worry  about antonin and antonin wall that you don't need   to look at that that's not important this is  important hadrian's war this is very important   so with hadrian's war when this was built  this was to keep the scottish away and   this is a picture of the of the roman empire  at the height at its peak i think this might be   at the time of jesus so i think this is like  80 maybe like 10 20 30. it doesn't say so i'm   not sure but if you can see how big the roman  empire is it's got so much land and empire and   and and everything leads to rome  all roads lead to roma or rome so   when you have roads they all are leading back to  the roman empire which is how it's supposed to be   uh for for that empire then you have new plants  and animals so the new plants and animals come   from all different parts spain germany north  africa afghanistan egypt syria asia minor all over   the empire and then they had a structure of law  and this law was how they kept the empire together   it was a very strong administrative service so  when you come across this can come against this   question they'll say what did the romans have well  they had roads because all roads lead back to roma   new plants and animals because the whole of uh the  you know this part of of the world was uh you know   all the plants and animals were shared so if you  had a monkey from egypt it's probably going to   end up in england somehow and if you had a horse  in england it's probably going to end up in asia   minor somehow that's just the way it was because  you only needed one passport from england to   egypt you only had you could use one passport and  travel all the roads and a structure of law right   the roman empire as all empires have ris had risen  and fallen and so now you have the anglo-saxons   which is uh the jutes the angles and the saxons  from northern europe they've come to england and   they are now uh taking over only england why is  only england they're taking over and this is in   the test the anglo-saxons where did they go to  they went to england not scotland and wales this   is an actual question from your exam they didn't  go to wales scotland or ireland because they had   an army and identity england on the other hand  were robe wearing uh copycats of the romans   it's a bit deeper than that but they  didn't have an army or the army went   with rome so they would left defenseless  so they had baths they had really nice   things they had nice things and the anglo-saxon  says we're just going to live where you live and   take over what you eat what you eat take over  what you eat and we're just going to live here   fast forward 200 years later and literally  we have a new uh blend of people because   when the children of um are born and they grow  up and then their children are born and then   they grow up and then their children are born  and they grow the culture starts to change and   from 410 to 600 there's like 200 years so that's  like if one generation is 50 years you have one   two three four generations later so your great  great great grandchildren are now anglo-saxons   and there's a mixture of romans british  tribe and anglo-saxons the vikings or as my   lovely fast-tracking students love to call  it the v king the viking or the vikings is   an eight seven is in seven eight nine a.d if you  guys watch the television series viking i don't   uh so please do leave a comment i think you guys  can guess who this very tall viking is uh with a   big uh beard blue eyes uh and his his his hat  is as big as a span of eagle uh seagull wings   and all these people are small uh this these  vikings came in 789 a.d and they came from norway   denmark and norway and they came uh during the  winter time when the ice went over norway and   denmark the reason they came was because there  was no food when the winter comes so they came   to germany france and to england and they would  pillage loot steal sell people into slavery   and it was very bad on the eastern coast of  england now in 878ad you had king alfred the great   he was great because he didn't kill lots of  people he was a very good king now the story of   king alfred the great is a really good story you  should listen to this he's you can call him king   alfred akbar king alfred the great king alfred the  great of 878 is a good rhyme that you can remember   what happened was his father was one of the  kings of the of the english empire uh not the   english empire the um the english tribes or not  even the english tribes he had a kingdom that's   what the word they used the english kingdom one  of them so there's like four and the other three   fell to the vikings his was the last and he  held it out they they held out for a while   and when um the vikings came for them king  alfred and his brothers and family hid in a swamp   and when they were hiding in a swamp the  vikings couldn't find them and um then when   his father died they uh voted they elected  for the next king because in anglo-saxon   culture you know women could be kings uh queens  uh women could be elected as queens and there was   a lot more equal rights between men and women  but specifically uh becoming uh the next king   wasn't because you were the oldest no everyone  had a vote which is very interesting so there's a   bit more equality men and women and voting system  for the next king so king alfred the great had two   older brothers and both of the older brothers  said we don't want to be king let alfred be king   i think they must have guessed that alfred would  have been a better king and they were correct   so alfred at the age of 15 becomes the next  king he then creates the first systemized army   or better yet he he rallies the troops pushes  the vikings out but he says you guys can stay   if you're gonna be good if you're not good you  can go you can leave because he knew that it was   literally 100 years since the vikings were  in england and their kids have grown up and   they're grown up so they're actually um used to  england and they're kind of like communicating and   you know the talking um the same language the same  culture you know they're mixed so he didn't want   to kick him out he wanted them to integrate but  you know be useful and not be uh causing problems   so he allowed him to stay now when he  allowed them to stay um he then uh his great   great great great grandchildren gave him the name  the great uh king alfred the great afterwards   and they gave him that name because he did a  lot of good things he systemized the army so   the first time england had an army was to  defend against future viking raids and also   he was he said to his people i'm very sad and the  people said oh my god king why are you sad and   he said because in my kingdom no one can read and  that was that was kind of a problem so he invited   different scholars and academics from all over the  world to come to england to teach his court how to   read and so he got the nickname the great because  of his great ideas and his his kindness so king   alfred the great 878 king alfred akbar defeated  the vikings so the question in your test is this   who defeated the vikings in england king  alfred the great and another question may   come up but it hasn't come up for a long long  time is who defeated the vikings in scotland   and in scotland is called king mccalpin the  great and the easiest way to remember that is   mick like mcdonald's mick is a scottish phrase  mcdonald's is a scottish wording so if you're   from scotland and you're watching this i do  apologize i'm probably going to butcher this but   mcalpin is the king of scotland that defeated the  vikings alfred the great or alfred akbar or 878   alfred the great 878 was the king who defeated  the english the english king who defeated the   vikings right now we get to my most favorite  part the the part that we got taught in schools   all the time when we were kids 1066 william  the conqueror this is such a great um uh uh   question that it's gonna come up eight eight times  in your test and i'm gonna show you how to do it   uh eight times i want you to write it down 1066  and there's eight questions i'm going to teach you   um 1066 was the battle of hastings and william  the conqueror from northern france defeated harold   hardrada in the battle of hastings he then became  william le conqueror or william the conqueror   the battle uh was literally um uh a very it's i'm  not gonna explain how the battle happened because   you can watch youtube videos on how that happened  you can go on ask family members about the battle   of hastings if they're british they'll just tell  you because it's it's like it's like if you're   english it's tattooed on your back like 1066.  it's such a big part of of your of your of your   education as a child like when you close your  eyes 1066 is tattooed under your eyelids and you   wake up and go oh my god the doomsday book you  know things like that so an english person will   know this like super easy i'll explain 1066 these  are the questions when did the battle of hastings   happen it was in 1066. who won the battle  of hastings in 1066 it was william conqueror   um when was the um doomsday book written it was  written in 1066 when was the uh tower of london uh   built it was built in 1066. um when was the  doomsday book written oh sorry the bayou   tapestry uh created it was created in 1066 and um  there's two more questions that i can't remember   uh when did william conker come to england  he came to england in 1066 and when was the   language when did the english uh when was the  french the majority when was the french used in   court as a language of court it was used in 1066  because william the conquer was a french king   or a french duke or baron and he came over to  england and then he became the english king   but he was william the conqueror uh and he he  spoke french french is mixed with um anglo-saxon   remember guys anglo-saxon anglo-saxon mixed  with french combine it together makes english   so again let's slow it down let's talk a  little bit about the doomsday book let's   talk about the bay utap street let's slow down  and i'll run through these again for you so we   don't have to go too quick we can just kind of  just repeat things just to help you remember and   and that's the best way of of memorizing this okay  you'll be fine you'll pass your exams you'll enjoy   it as well so changes in government and social  structures because you have a french king now   it's a very embarrassing time to be english not  to be english sorry um for england because what's   happening is england is now paying taxes to the  french monarchy and the french king and the french   empire and they're just the french are going  off and waging war in different countries so   at the moment it's very uh embarrassing and  crest english people are very uh sad at the   moment uh because their king is just waging war  in different countries and their king they don't   have an english king anymore but 1066 onwards is  the beginning of the the new system so um let's   slow it down let's talk a little bit more about uh  what's happening right now in england and we don't   have to go too quickly we can kind of slow things  down a little bit so 1066 is quite uh a sad time   for english people because they're just paying  the taxes to a french king who's waging war in   different countries and they're not spending the  money on their own country and the doomsday book   is is a book where the french king doesn't speak  english he doesn't know the country but he does   want to tax it so he sends his people out into  the countryside to collect the taxes and what he's   doing is he is um not not to collect taxes but to  write down how many farms do people earn where do   people live and what's going on in their farmland  and what's going on in the in their country and   where's the money how many barns how many farms  how many things do they have now this may not   help you to understand what a doomsday  book is but i'll tell you one thing   um when you and i'm talking to you yes you sitting  at home watching this video you know who you are   uh if you didn't if if you're a foreign national  and you're watching this video i'm talking   directly to you when you first came to the uk  and you were on the plane uh and you looked down   onto the uh countryside did you see squares in  the countryside yeah you did didn't you okay   so you see those squares in the countryside right  the squares on the ground right those squares are   because of the doomsday book so why do you think  they put those countryside areas into squares   if you said that it's because they wanted to uh  figure out you know who owned what land yes you   are correct that's what they did they saw who  owned what land the the cows could only graze   on this land and you would be taxed according  to that square um then the bayou tapestry   is a written account of the battle of hastings  and the french king and everything that that   that happened so it's a bit it's a large curtain  it's so huge it's so wide and you can go and read   it and it just tells you the stories of what's  happening um so again let's do this one more time   1066 bachelor hastings uh who was the king in 1066  william the conqueror when did the the battle of   hastings happen to happen in 1066 um who was the  uh who uh who built the tower of london william   the conqueror in 1066 who uh when was the um when  was the uh bail tapestry made it was made in 1066   when was the doomsday book written it was  written in 1066 um what language did the french   court speak uh what language did england speak  in 1066 it was the french courts which is the   top system was french and the anglo-saxon what  two languages combined together to make english   is french and anglo-saxon combined together um  i think i'm missing one um but we can rewind the   video to look at it but yeah that's that's all  the eight questions that will come in your test   all right well done to you guys history is not  very easy but you guys did it so let's start from   the beginning stone age is ten thousand years ago  bronze ages six thousand years ago iron ages four   thousand years ago romans came in 43 a.d to  410 a.d and the anglo-saxons came in ad600   um the vikings came in seven eight  nine and they left an eight seven eight   very good the normans came in 1066 and a d stands  for anno domini the latin year of our lord and bc   stands for before christ or as better  yet after delivery of the baby of christ   and before the birth of christ bc and a.d well  done all right now let's try it one more time and   see how you get on i guarantee you you're gonna  do a lot better this time than you did before   question number one when did  hunter-gatherers first come to england   ten thousand years ago six thousand years ago  four thousand years ago or two thousand years ago   the correct answer is ten thousand years ago how  many years ago were the first farmers in england   ten thousand years ago six thousand years ago  four thousand years ago or two thousand years ago   the correct answer is six thousand  years ago now remember farmers came   six thousand hunter gatherers ten thousand  the stone age right i bet you can do this now   put these in the right order vikings iron age uh  the vikings the iron age the romans the stone age   the normans the anglo-saxons and the bronze  age here's a trick start with the weakest   item first which is stone then go to the  stronger one which is bronze then the strongest   metal which is iron then what happens after  that anglo-saxons then who's after that   the v king the viking very good then the normans  the french yeah is that it so well done let's have   a quick look did we get this right the stone  age the bronze age the iron age the romans the   anglo-saxon the vikings and the normans well done  good job and where were the vikings from norway   and denmark italy india or pakistan the correct  answer is norway and denmark good job because it   got cold and they had to come uh where was budaker  from icini germany icini or pakistan the correct   answer is icini well done and what did hadrian  build to keep the scottish away from england   a giant wall a big castle an electric fence or a  large fleet of ships the correct answer is a giant   wall fantastic good the pics were the ancestors of  what people the welsh the english the scottish or   the americans the correct answer is the scottish  how can you remember this um scott scottish the   best way to remember this is scotland's people are  picky people they're not really they're wonderful   people they're fantastic but you can try and say  scottish people are picky therefore they're picks   yeah uh yeah you can say scottish people are  picks that's fine um they're the ancient ancestors   you can say that way what did the romans bring to  england plants and animals roads structure of law   all of the above we remember how big the the roman  empire was so it is literally all of the above   good job what year did the romans leave england  810 a.d 610 a.d for 1080 or 2016 ad the correct   answer is 410 a.d wonderful good job and where  did the jute the angles and the saxons come from   north europe south europe north america or  south america the correct answer is north europe   well done and where when did the vikings arrive  in england 878 a d 789 a d 410 a ad or 2016 ad the   correct answer is eight seven oh sorry seven eight  nine eighty
