easily what year  was the great fire of london 1566 1600 or 1666   i will be testing you on this later on so keep  pay attention okay the correct answer is 1666.   who designed saint paul's cathedral william  shakespeare samuel peps peeps puppies   sir christopher run puppies uh puppies uh  who designed saint paul's cathedral william   shakespeare samuel peeps uh sir christopher  rob the correct answer is sir christopher wren   who kept a diary in 1666 william shakespeare  samuel peeps also christopher wren the correct answer is samuel peeps   yes and what did isaac newton discover  gravity electricity or science the correct answer is gravity okay guys let's  get straight into it so um if you got some of   them wrong please don't worry let's go straight  into it let's get started with our first king   king henry the 567th because you have five plus  two is seven um from the last lesson he won the   battle of bosworth uh 1485 and he started the  plan plantar generate line i can never pronounce   that so we're just going to call it the plantain  line for example the big vegetable it's called the   plantain line it's okay it's not going to be in  your exam so you don't have to memorize that part   but i think it's planned to generate so his line  is the line that goes and this is what's going to   come on your test who is king henry vii he's the  person that won the battle of bosworth anything   that's in red that comes in your exam um what  also comes in the exam is who's king henry viii   he had six wives so anything that's in red that  that's what comes in the exam again and again   um he us he basically wanted to divorce  his first wife and he had to ask the pope   uh who was the head of the catholic church if  anyone's a catholic you'll know who the pope is   um he's the head of the church he asked him  could you please allow me to divorce my wife   and um what do you guys think the head of  the church the catholic church said he said   no of course so king henry viii says all right  then well i'm gonna do it anyway and on top of   that i'm gonna kick out all your priests who are  catholics in england and i'm gonna create my own   church that way all the priests in england will be  my priest and all the money that you get from the   church will go straight to me because it's the  church of england and i'm the head of the church   obviously that makes the pope very angry and  he starts telling people that protestants   uh should be excommunicated and england  becomes excommunicated for the next   i think it's like 400 years but that's not that  that is called the reformation and the reformation   is in your exam that is in your test um now you  have the wives let's talk about the wives and   what they had to go through marrying this guy you  know big man over here with his wonderful clothes   uh which is silk and beautiful shoes and uh yeah  he's a big man he's a very big man we're gonna   talk about his six wives now let's go for it  catherine of aragon now the trick for this to   remember this for your exam is aragon is spanish  aragon is in spain it's spanish espanol espanol   i'm going to butcher the  spanish language as well espanol   gracias grand oh okay grande grande henry viii  uh with very small uh catherine of aragon that's   how you remember it she's a spanish princess they  had one child called mary and we're going to talk   about mary later now she was divorced and i'm  going to explain how you can remember this is   it's going to i'm going to teach you a trick  in just a moment if you give me two seconds   let's go through all the wives first uh anne  boleyn english one child elizabeth executed   now the reason she was executed was because um  they thought that she was having an affair uh   i don't think she was having an affair it sounds  like a trump trump charge but you know historians   um believe that this is this is what happened she  was told that she would she was having a fear but   i think it was because she had a daughter he  wanted to have a divorce she didn't want to   get a divorce because it was in christian and  therefore the only way he could think of of of   of getting another wife was to kill this wife um  you can't kill this wife because she is a spanish   princess and killing her will declare war on spain  but because this wife was an english princess   um he could do it and there was no problems and  you're gonna see that pattern a little bit later   for example um we'll look at that again jane  seymour was the third wife english one child   edward died after the baby and apparently king  henry viii did love jane seymour more than   anyone i think that's that's that's  what the historians say but in the exam   one child edward it was a boy huzzah it's it's a  it's a king there you go that's that's the culture   that england was at at that time of course  uh we needed a heir to raise um the throne   um that's what henry viii was thinking that's what  the people of england think we need a male heir um   anne of cleves was the next princess now this is  a german princess there was no children and she   was divorced you want to know why this isn't on  the exam but this is the first example of catfish   um what's catfish it's where you put up a profile  picture on your social media or whatsapp and it   doesn't look anything like you that's what she did  she sent these pictures a very beautiful picture   lovely picture she sent this picture to king henry  viii it took like a month to get from germany to   england probably took like more than a month and  when it arrived in england he looked and he goes   cool blimey i'll like a pizza that way  fantastic and so that's what happened he sent um   he probably sent his picture back and he  probably didn't look like that in the picture   um he then agreed to the marriage she then spent  three months traveling from germany to england and   when she got to england um uh he said hang on a  second you don't look anything like your portrait   and she was like da i don't know how to speak  german actually uh king henry viii i am your wife   and of cleaves and so they i think  they were married for like three months   then got a divorce and then she took and she went  back for another she went back to germany after   that so no children divorced after like three  months took her three months to get there three   months to get back it's probably the most eventful  year of her life um catherine howard the cousin   of ambuland no children executed why because  she was english and she didn't want a divorce   you're seeing a pattern here you can't kill a  german princess or a spanish princess but you can   kill the english uh wives so there you go now the  last wife was catherine parr english no children   died after henry oh thank god for that uh it's  all ended now so he died before he could kill her   so let's go through the six wives of henry viii  one more time now this doesn't exactly come up in   the exam like that's it like this it just asks one  or two questions about the spanish and the german   princesses and anne boleyn um but this is this is  what it is uh catherine aragon was the first wife   uh anne boleyn was the second jane seymour was  the third anna cleves with the fourth catherine   howard was the fifth and katherine paul was the  sixth now the best way to remember this guys   oh this guy oh my god the best way to  remember this fast trackers is um divorced   executed died divorced executed survived  divorced executed died divorced executed   survived now that's how we learned in school but  just remember um catherine aragon was spanish anne   boleyn was english jane seymour was english out  of cleves was german princess she was divorced   a cousin of ambulance no children and catherine  parr was english no children uh if you guys   want to uh let me know who's your favorite  princess i think mine is like anne boleyn   uh she sounded really cool um but just let us  know who's your favorite princess reformation now   the entire change in england now this just come  in the test reformation and you should get a pen   and write this down get a pen write it down  reformation it means reforming making something   new it's making the church brand new again and  that's what henry viii did is exactly what he did   he made the church new because he wanted  money in history if you ever just want to know   uh where what decisions were made it's always  made for money and you should follow the money   if you want to follow the truth um and so  what what they said at the time was because   in catholicism you go to the church you give  money to the church and the the bible is read   in latin latin is a very ancient language uh  that the bible is in protestants said we want to   practice christianity at home and we want to  read the bible in our own language we want to   translate it so the uh catholics said that's  unchristian and that's like satan worshipping   therefore we will not accept it and they  pushed all of the protestants out of england   uh sorry out of europe um and in england uh  this is what's going to come in your test   what is the church of england the church of  england is the official church of england   uh they'll also ask you for the church of  scotland which is called the presbyterian   church we'll cover that in just a moment and  what religion is england england is protestants   that's it those are the three questions for your  exam henry the seventh sorry eighth died oh geez   okay right now let's look through his kids  uh edward vi king for six years he died at   15 years old after water poisoning it was like  cholera or something he was a very sickly child   uh then you had sister mary queen for five  years and she died she was called bloody   mary because she followed in her mom's footsteps  of being a catholic um so in your exam edward vi   was died at 15 years old he was the son of ken  henry viii sister mary uh was the sister and she   was called bloody mary because she uh prosecuted  the protestants uh just before they were going to   have an assassination attempt on her she died of a  heart attack at the age of 36 and she prematurely   aged a lot because apparently she was always  scared that someone was going to try and kill her   and she she wasn't very popular queen at all  because she was a catholic and the country was a   protestant now talking about a popular queen sorry  this is catholic uh mary agreed she wasn't bad   and this is in your test what the only thing  that's in your test is what religion was mary   uh queen mary she was a catholic she wasn't  bad um but you can call her bloody mary   because she prosecuted um a few protestants and  i think they call her bloody mary after that um   and again she wasn't bad she just wasn't very  good at her job and she put a lot of people in   positions who are not very good so she wasn't a  good boss and then she died of a heart attack from   premature aging um then you have her sister called  queen elizabeth which takes after her father   as a protestant and under her room england became  protestant again and the people were so happy   she's called the virgin queen because she had  no children she's called bloody mary because   she was she was sought to be a terrorist she  wasn't a terrorist she was just had bad advice   but queen elizabeth had great advice and she did  peek uh pick the best people and she did find a   balance and that's going to be in your test why is  queen elizabeth the first good because of balance   um and that's in the exam uh and so  let's talk about scotland mary stewart   is queen elizabeth's cousin and this is going  to get a bit tricky so just bear with me   uh she became queen of scotland at one  week old and she lived in france this is   queen of scots she is a catholic and you can use  the term scots and catholic as a kind of same   thing mary's queen of scots and she's catholic  now she's queen of france at one week old um and   her her husband is poisoned and killed maybe  poison in the air a bit macbeth style um so   everyone thinks that she had something to do with  it so she runs away to scotland and then everyone   in scotland is saying i think you did it as well  so she ran away to england and when she ran away   to england she was imprisoned for 20 years by her  cousin queen elizabeth the first in that house   she was under locking key and house and she  couldn't leave and uh basically the reason why she   was um in prison was because she was also a queen  she had royal blood in her veins and technically   she could also become queen as well but elizabeth  the first did it mostly because of two reasons   she didn't want uh this queen to take over the  throne of england and she didn't want to make   enemies of scotland and france who didn't really  like her so they kept her under house arrest   so she found a balance and she was very good  queen elizabeth at finding balance now after   20 years of finding a balance she kind of went uh  we're gonna kill you off and that's what they did   executed in 1587 mary queen of scots is seen  there now i'm just going to show you a picture   this is really interesting i don't think we  take enough time to look at these pictures   right everyone get close to your screen i'm going  to give you some time look really closely at this   picture look at what's happening here  can anyone tell me what's going on here   it looks as though there is a man with a  cross in the hands of queen elizabeth a queen   of scots here this guy is an executioner this guy  is saying go ahead and do it these guys are all   strange weirdos and these are her two handmaidens  going oh no yeah because she's going to get her   head chopped off and chucked in that fire  there so yeah i think they're the mo they're   the most realistic expression of what's happening  everyone else seems a bit chill oh and these are   her followers here because they're like kneeling  on one knee and these are the people who are not   as important as these people and everyone's  wearing funny hats they're called puritans   all right thank you guys i just really wanted to  share that with you because it's i've seen this   picture a hundred times and i'd like to explain  what's going on there's more of these picture   explanations so in your exam who is mayor queen of  scots mary queen of scots is the uh catholic queen   who who apparently killed her husband and she was  in prison for 20 years by queen elizabeth and then   head was chopped off again execution take your  finger execution all right king james the sixth   five plus one who is the son of mary and now he  becomes the king of scotland this is going to be   on your test so they're gonna say who became the  king after queen mary queen of scots was executed   it was king james vi so keep your eye on this guys  okay and keep your eyes on this guy yeah he's a le   fungo we're going to talk about him a little bit  later is it good for nothing right explorers sir   francis so do make sure you remember who this guy  is we're gonna we're gonna come back to him king   james vi right explorers let's take a sidetrack  sir francis drake a national hero of uh england uh   he was in charge of the uh fleet uh under queen  elizabeth and she was apparently very close to   queen elizabeth but that's not in the exam um  another story that you can remember you know sir   francis drake by is that he's got a boat called  the golden hind which is a reference to jason   and the argonauts and uh they're a very very um i  think it's a greek story of uh jason traveling to   get many many things done before he returns  home and one of the things is the golden hind um   sorry the golden fleece which is um a reference  to one of the things one of the tasks he has to   complete so this boat was his flagship boat  and the golden hind is like a buckley or   a goat or a sheep um yeah and there's just plenty  of stories about him if you wanted to remember who   this guy is um but there's not they're not under  the exam for example one story that you could   try and use to remember him is that he got  married to a handmaiden of queen elizabeth's court   uh but he didn't tell the queen so the queen  imprisoned him and her in the tower of london   and then after like three weeks he released  them both and allowed them to get married   i think she may have been a bit jealous but she  said it was because she didn't have permission   and so i think what it was was elizabeth the first  didn't marry and she really liked sir francis   drake because he was dashing and daring and you  know it was a man of action type of thing um   and he did have manufacture he was in charge of  the spanish armada uh defense and he was integral   with all the other ships as to doing the fire raid  uh which kind of cemented england as a superpower   but again these things are not on your exam and  i really want to focus on what's on your test so   francis drake uh who is he he was a sailor and an  explorer that's one question second question is   what uh what was his ship's name his ship's name  was a golden hind because it's like a golden sheep   okay all right he started to take america  circumvented the world circumnavigated the   world i think um uh william shakespeare 1564-1616  the bard or the man who wrote many many many many   many plays and he's a very central figure in uh  theater and uh in theater in in england but also   around the world um he has uh the globe  this was his um theater uh which burnt down   in the in the fire of 1666 and then they rebuilt  it but it looks like that it's theater you know   he's got midsummer's night's dream hamlet  macbeth romeo and juliet love stories but the   reason why he was so good was that he wrote  and told stories in such a way that was so   um we never heard stories being told like  this he was just he was masterfully written   um i think he was an alien and he came  from outer space and he came to earth   and therefore he wrote so well other people  think that he was a he was multiple people   it wasn't just one person um but he did invent  words such as the robot which we used today   he's he's invented terms and phrases that  we still use today um but in my personal   opinion what i really think he is he's a very  gifted uh playwright and so you have these   quotes henry v you know the guy who won the battle  of bosworth no the battle of agincourt henry v   he wrote a play about him uh once more onto the  breach which means once more to fight so let's   fight again let's go back in and fight again and  and that was a very uh uh that was a very uh uh that play is performed quite a lot and  and you know henry the fifth is is quite a   is a well-performed play it's performed  quite a lot um i don't know what else to   say about it really another play is hamlet  to be or not to be that is the question um   there's more to that i just can't remember  it um if you wanted to watch these things   you can there's loads of modern adaptations and  everybody knows the love story of romeo and juliet   arose by any of the name would it smell as sweet  um thou art the thou art the sun and juliet is the   some i think something like that i should know  these things actually um i've i've performed   one of these plays i think um as you like  it all the world is a stage and we are but   actors upon the stage um then sonnet 18 love poem  now the trick for this is is there's two questions   that will come in your test about poetry one is  poetry about nature and one is poetry about love   if you want to make it easy for yourself if you  haven't if you for us as as british-born people we   we come through um shakespeare through school  and college and university and just culture   here's how to make it easier  this is what you do for your test   sonnet is a love poem so remember sonic is a  love poem and um the other question you'll get is   william wordsworth uh who is the poet that  wrote about nature and it's william wordsworth   and he he wrote about the daffodils so we call  it www.daffodil so william woodworth daffodils   www dot like a website and shakespeare is like a  sonnet shakespeare sonnet and shakespeare two s's   and that's love poem so there's only two poets  they ask for in the exam william wordsworth for   nature and the daffodils www dot and you have  shakespeare which is for sonnets shakespeare   sonnets love poems that's it so love poems  shall i compare thee to a summer's day thou   art more lovely and more temperate rough winds do  shake the darling buds of may and summer's leaf   hath all too short a date it's pretty heavy  stuff if you have a family member that has never   heard shakespeare just just download it and start  saying it to them they'll fall in love it's great   it's very romantic stuff right okay do you  remember that guy i was talking about a long   time ago uh james vi and the first um yeah this  is that guy this is that lafonga we're going   to talk about why is a lefonga why is it good  for nothing uh because this guy started a war   uh him and his son actually no it's not  this guy it's his son that started a war   i got it wrong okay elizabeth the first had no  children because she didn't want to get married   because she knew that if anyone was trying to  marry her and the people that were trying to   marry her were real heavy hitter people like the  king of france the duke of orange of of denmark um   the king of spain and if she had gotten married  to them instantly she would have been killed so   that they could take over the throne so she knew  this was going to happen there was power play   and when the people said please uh queen elizabeth  we'd we would like to have uh you know an heir   to the throne who will lead us after you have  gone and she says well i already have children   the people of england are my children and they  all went ah so she was super clever very good   so okay so elizabeth had no children so the  next in line was uh james the six which is he's   a little bit older now uh which is so he's waited  his turn uh mary queen of scots son became king of   england wales and ireland but he has to give his  scottish thrown away so there's a question that   comes later on in the exam about who became king  of scotland england and wales this is not that one   um scotland is still separated from england it's  uh but this this will come in your test later   uh ireland now has northern ireland  of course northern ireland was there   um it's catholic country and there's rebellions  against protestants in england not a lot is said   in the exam regarding this except for two things  which is the troubles um three things the troubles   uh which is later on which we'll cover i think  in like uh in about three four more lessons um   you then have the potato famine which we  will cover in a little while as well and   then we're gonna cover oliver cromwell um  which is what we're going to cover today so   what's coming up in your test ireland is two  countries there's the northern ireland which   is part of the united kingdom then the republic of  ireland dublin is the capital republic of ireland   but that's not on your test belfast is in your  test and that's that's what you want to remember   okay picture time again ladies and gentlemen get  back up sit up straight and look at this picture   i am going to tell you what's happening because  this picture is packed with many things one   two three four five six seven and then  just generally things going strange here   both james the first and his son charles the  first believed in the divine right of kings   what is the divine right of kings this does come  in your test the divine right of kings is an old   concept which says if you are the king you can  speak to god i know right crazy isn't it or is it   i don't know you tell me guys is it crazy that if  you're a king you can speak to god uh the best way   i can describe this is if anyone is old enough  to remember george w bush um when he was asked   by an interviewer a journalist  says george why did you invade iraq   and george w bush came round and said because god  told me to god told me to uh invade iraq i had a   dream and i acted upon that dream and i invaded  iraq and everyone went mental this was like how   on earth are you the leader of a of a um of of of  a superpower country and you you're listening to   god in your dreams and he's telling you to invade  iraq and this is what's happened as a result of it   but actually that concept comes from this  that a king is receiving signals from god   so of course everyone receives messages from from  god of course but like he receives a specific   message so here's god or you know the rey the rey  god coming into king james and king charles's mind   and then out of his eyeballs comes the crown of  god which if you look here is above the crown of   thorns the one that jesus wore on his head which  if you look again is above the crown of england   so ah we're starting to see the layers of messages  that a king is looking at the crown of god   the crown of thorns of jesus the prophet and  then underneath it you have the crown of england   and this is the bible and this is a parchment i  have no idea what these two things are but he's   on one knee and then out in the field is like a  balance i think and then the winds of change i   never figured out what these two things are we're  still concentrating on this so in your exam what   is the divine right of kings uh fast track is  it is where the king uh receives uh messages   from god telling them what to do now do you think  this is a good way to lead or a bad way to lead yeah that's what i thought this is what he thought  and what he believed is that he could do what   he likes therefore he tried to rule without  parliament and he tried to change the church   of england uh i think he was trying to change  it back to catholicism this is james the first   and he then also tried to get money from  parliament to start wars with scotland and   ireland how well do you think that went yeah  that's what i thought very well english civil war   charles the first caused problems with scotland  and ireland tried to get money from parliament   parliament you know restored parliament wanted  to then say uh let me control the armies i think   you've had your day we're going to control the  armies now the king refused parliament refused war   then uh king uh charles the first here as pictured  again picture time ladies and gentlemen let's look   at the picture what was happening in history this  happy chappie with his puritan hat i believe it's   puritan no they got the purity now he's got a  foppish hat uh they he basically he's gone to the   house of commons to arrest parliament members that  he believes are um uh speaking against him but the   parliament members were uh tipped off and they ran  away now here you see all these parliament members   saying whoa this guy's coming here to arrest us  and he's not happy he's not happy he's he's uh   showing royal he's showing um sovereignty to the  king so now you have a house of commons divided   and this is also uh the reason why the queen now  is not allowed to go into the house of commons she   must call the house of commons into the house of  lords because after this it happened uh the king   was never ever allowed to set foot in the house  of commons so there you go that's picture time   okay another picture time i do like picture time  okay one more time round heads and the cavaliers   so here you have round heads and here you have  cavaliers so round heads which is these people and   the cavaliers here so who are the round heads the  round heads are veterans of war very poor poorly   equipped but they are experienced at warfare and  they are on the side of parliament because they   have round helmets who are these guys well these  guys are the uh cavaliers now they have very good   equipment they have money they're on the side of  royalty and they want to um uh ride into battle   with the king so the best way to remember is c  for cavaliers and c for king charles the first   so cavaliers and charles the first that's the  secret to remember this so in your exam who was on   the side of the cavaliers king charles the first  who was on the side of the round heads parliament   all right so there was uh battles that were going  on uh during the civil war the battle of marston   moore 1646 parliament defeated king charles  the first and then in 1649 king charles the   first was take your finger put it against your  neck executed so first executed that's the easiest   way to remember this in your exam king charles  the first executed all right now it's crazy time   because uh there's no king in england okay if  there's no king in england what are we gonna do   uh england is a republic scotland disagreed um  republic means that there's no king or queen   king charles ii of scotland fought with england  um now tim charles ii said you guys need a king   you haven't got a king i'll be your king  uh this is the guy uh he liked to party   yeah man you can tell look at those  platform shoes again picture time   uh sit up in your seat and look at this guy's  shoes it was the fashion of the time lovely   platform shoes silk stockings uh yes very  nice clothes uh very nice uh fake wig um yeah what else what else are we gonna talk about  he's the king of scotland he lost the war with   parliament and he escaped in an oak tree now  the best way to remember this is king charles ii   hid inside of an oak tree and then escape so  you get your two fingers you hide inside and   you escape if it's king charles the first he's  executed that's the easiest way to remember   these two kings ah now we're going to talk  about the mass murderer as well historically   speaking he murdered a lot of irish um the lord  protector this unremarkable man with many warts uh   coined the phrase paint me warts and all because  uh before people would paint portraits and they   wouldn't include the bad stuff they'd only include  the good stuff uh he said paint me warts and all   he was an unremarkable man until he joined the  puritan protestant uh army and then he somehow got   an affinity to um lead his troops um and  then after he became the lord protector   uh oliver cromwell from 1653 to 1658 then he  went to ireland and he carried out a lot of   brutal activities to suppress the irish people  who wanted complete independence in the island   and so his son took over after he died and they  couldn't really get parliament moving uh because   there was um no proper direction to go in and  so after being without a king for about 11 years   in 1660 england wanted a king again and  so king charles ii came now by no means   this is not a good king as much as he is  a party goer he's he throws a great party   you know his parties are on fire that's a joke  because the next slide is going to show you   why his parties are on fire king of england  scotland ireland and wales so now you have the   united kingdom which is born the uk everything  all together he's now king of england scotland   ireland and wales so now you think great  this is it brilliant now that the king of   king charles is here we're all everything's  going to be okay we're all going to be fine   no no no just no no plague came back remember in  the last video 1348 we had a plague yeah this is   the second plague 1665 and then in 1666 you have  the great fire of london which burned through uh   i think it was like a third of london uh and  with that 1666 now the best way to remember this   is 666 turn it upside down 999 who do you  call when there's a fire nine nine nine   uh so 1666 is like that uh 1665 is the plague  um we can talk about this for quite a while but   i'm only going to discuss what is actually in  the test st paul's cathedral was destroyed um   now what's interesting about  singapore's cathedral was that   people um they they had such a they had  a massive library in st paul's cathedral   and this library uh they wanted to protect so they  took all of the books down down into the crypts   and they put all the books into the crypts because  they didn't have enough time to take it out of the   city um and then it took them days to move all  the books and they moved very quickly whilst   the city was burning and then when the fire  finally caught up to saint paul's cathedral   um it burned the cathedral the ceiling fell  onto the floor onto the marble floor broke   through the floor and then burned all the books in  the crypt um and apparently the the the heat was   so intense that the the bricks and the cement  bricks exploded in saint paul's cathedral   again that's not on your example what is on  your exam these are all stories to help you   remember what is on your exam is this man here  sir christopher redd again picture time guys   let me show you something funny right  okay so look at the guy's uh clothes   um the best way to remember who sir christopher  wren is is look at that funny wig it's a great   wig look at those clothes it's great clothes and  look at his uh makeup he's wearing a lead painted   makeup with rosy red cheeks he's an architect  he makes buildings and he made this building he   redesigned the saint paul's cathedral and  he rebuilt it now the wigs that they used   at the time had many purposes for example they  used to catch lice and they used to catch um   the the because you got to remember guys this is  like a 16th century 17th century uh england it's   not the cleanest place in the world i mean london  just burnt down and there's no sewage system   so it smells pretty bad and the reason it smells  pretty bad is because no one takes a bath no one   takes a shower no one's cleaning themselves as  much soap came later and baths were only for the   queen maybe i don't know maybe like once a year or  something crazy maybe um now now if you look here   this coat covers bo so when you wear the  coat it covers all the bad smells the face   paint that he's got on is mixed with lead  so a lot of people had lead poisoning when   they were wearing the face paint uh but it was  the fashion of the time the wig the face paint   the the coats and the jenner jackets just covered  up the smell um we're gonna see another guy   samuel peeps now we're gonna play a game do you  think this man's hair is real or not and that's   that's the game can you guess is his hair real  or not samuel uh i can guess you i can tell you   now because christopher wren's here is not  real uh samuel peeps hey is it real or not   i'll i'll leave it to you but he wrote a diary  and he was famous for burying a wheel of cheese   and wine in his garden and said if i die you  guys get the cheese it's really good cheese of   course it was really good cheese it was from  italy and it was a big wheel of it like huge   um but what he did was he made a diary of all the  people and what had what been happening in london   because it's during the plague and because people  are dying every day you don't know whether you're   going to live or not so he made a diary and there  are there are mass graves in london that are   still being uncovered even today because samuel  peeps told people where they were so his diaries   informed us as to how the second plague affected  england okay isaac newton is that here real or not no i'm gonna say you guys tell me he was a scientist and he  invented gravity or he invented the concept   of understanding gravity um you know the guy that  sat under a tree and let an apple fall on his head   yeah that story is not true that's what the  newspapers said when he when he when he came   up with the idea the real isaac newton was a  scientist he invented the concept of gravity   but he mostly stayed indoors all day long uh  thinking about these things and he basically   invented the concept of why does a pen or an  apple fall to the ground why doesn't it float or   why doesn't it go up or why does it go down and  that was the concept of gravity right james ii   because charles ii unfortunately had no children  uh charles ii uh again hid inside of an oak tree   charles the first died in fact charles ii did  have a son and his son was really good but his   son died in a hunting accident um so charles ii  was heartbroken he had no children after that   and james the second was his brother now james  ii uh became king but he's catholic oh no what do you guys think that means from  what i've explained to you about catholic   kings and queens trying to run a protestant  country do you think this is going to end up well   what's your opinion no it's not right now you've  got um okay so this is this is an interesting   story uh this is the last story of today's lessons  i promise you this is the last thing i'm going   to tell you before we go into questions let's see  nearly we're nearly at the end of the lesson good   job guys this is the hardest lesson that we teach  on the fast track course uh online teachers again   if you ever want to um see more of this you can  always watch the documentary it'll tell you more   but this is specifically what's on the test king  james ii had a daughter mary and he married her to   the duke of orange of the duke of orange which  is william iii so his daughter married another   king and then the that that king said i want  to uh become king of england because james ii   is a catholic and they're calling me i'm gonna  go so he went over then everyone thought there   was gonna be a war but no king james ii just  ran away to france and then william became   king william iii and this guy here became king  of england and there was no fighting in england   therefore it was called a glorious revolution  that's what you need to write down glorious   means fantastic because no one died everyone was  like okay well there's no war so james ii tried   to come back was defeated in the battle of the  boyne in ireland in 1690 he tried to come back   okay ladies and gentlemen good job so we have  gone from 1066 all the way to 1689 so we're slowly   getting closer to modern times so in 1066 you had  william the conqueror 1199 you had king john uh   1377 you had king richard the second william  the conqueror was the king of france although   he was the he he was the king of england and he  came from france uh after the battle of hastings   king john uh raised taxes and it was during the um  he signed the magna carta during robin hood times   king richard ii um henry v was at the battle of  agincourt um king henry this five six seventh   was um the uh war of the roses and he was  the leader that uh married the princess   of the others of the other um house house of york  i think uh then you have king henry viii which   who had seven six wives then you then you had  king edward vi who was who died at 15 years old   uh he was king for six years uh then you have mary  the first who's called bloody mary and she was a   catholic she died prematurely of a heart attack  then you had elizabeth the first who's called the   virgin queen and as you can see she ruled for  like 45 years very very long reign and a bit   of stability for england and then you have james  the first who is the um the the son of um queen   of france mary queen of france um after  she was executed he became the king then   you have charles the first who was the  lafunga the good for nothing that started the   civil war and he believed in the divine right  of kings and he was executed then no king uh   1649 then in 1660 uh 11 years later you have  charles ii who hid in an oak tree to escape   then you have james ii who is his brother and  then you have william the third of um orange   he became william the first of england oh my god  guys wow i'm gonna give you a round of applause   i salute you because that's really tough you've  just learned all the history that's in the life   in the uk test and now i'm gonna test you i'm  gonna see who was paying attention so everyone   sit up in your seat this is the fun part i'm  gonna teach you the secrets of the life in the   uk test specifically for the tudors and stewards  so where was catherine of aragon from spain   france england or syria the correct answer is  spain why because aragon is in spain catherine of   aragon is spanish where was anne of cleves from  spain germany or england the correct answer is   germany cleaves like a metal cleaver or you  know um something that you put like cleaves   yeah uh like a metal cleaver they like to  eat meat so you can cut meat with a cleaver   like that and of clicho's german name king henry  the eighth six wise i'm going to give you a second   three c's two a's and one j i'm gonna give you  a moment so come on is anyone at home able to   like remember it three c's katherine  two a's ands and one j is for jane   that's right catherine r of aragon catherine  howard catherine parr and bolin anne of cleves   jane seymour now you know guys well  done you won't forget this now what   was the name of the new religion created  by king henry viii the church of britain   the church of scotland the church of england  the correct answer is the church of england   well done name henry viii's children edward mary  elizabeth are all of the above the correct answer   all of the above all of these are his children  edward was the male mary was the female elizabeth   was the female as well so we remember that  mary uh mary's mum was um catherine of aragon   elizabeth's mum was anne boleyn and edward's mum  was jane seymour what religion was queen mary   the first catholic muslim hindu or protestant  i'll give you a hint she definitely wasn't a   muslim and she definitely wasn't a hindu  so it's between catholic and protestant catholic mary was a catholic well done and  what religion was queen elizabeth the first   protestant muslim hindu again i don't think she  was a muslim and i don't think she was a hindu elizabeth the first virgin elizabeth was a  protestant elizabeth the first the virgin   queen and mary was bloody mary alright who became  king of scotland after mary queen of scots died   her son james vi her cousin charles the first her  husband william the first well i mean who becomes   king after the queen dies it becomes the child  so it is her son her son becomes the king who   sailed around the world in the golden hind william  shakespeare sir christopher wren sir francis drake   now guys remember your stories i told you some  stories about who william shakespeare is he's the   bard he's the playwright so christopher wren wears  the wig he has bo and he's got lead face paint on   so remember the stories try and try and get both  sides of your brain to work together on this one   and sir francis drake is the man of the  golden hind why because he was an explorer   just like jason and the argonauts and one  of their tasks was to find the golden fleece   which of the following is a play by william  shakespeare a midsummer's night's dream hamlet   macbeth or all of the above again the nature  poet was um uh the man who wrote the daffodils   www dot daffodils william wordsworth you see  even i forget but i used the tricks to help me   remember so william shakespeare is the sonnet he  writes midsummer's night's dream hamlet macbeth   once more into the bridge to be or not to be you  know all these plays he wrote which side were the   round heads on the parliament king charles the  first the peasants of english or the spanish   again guys remember that helmet round head they're  not very rich they're very poor they're puritans   and they they're experts of war because  they've fought in many battles they are the   parliament they're on the side of parliament  that's the correct answer now try this one   i'm not going to say anything you know the  answer which side were the cavaliers on   the parliament king charles the first the  peasants of england england or the spanish c and c c and c u see and see together it is the  cavaliers cavaliers is a fancy name for horse   rider and king charles the first is a very  fancy man who take your finger got executed   who was the lord protector king charles the  first oliver cromwell king henry viii or queen   elizabeth the first now this is a trick  i haven't taught you yet notice a c and d   have roman numerals at the end which means that  they are kings the lord protector killed the king   so the lord protector is the person with the most   common name which means he hasn't got one two  or three at the end of his name he just has a   blank so you don't have to read the question you  just need to see lord protector oliver cromwell   uh true or false king charles ii became king of  england scotland ireland and wales yeah that's   right he became the first king of the uk that's  true king charles ii hid in an oak tree well done   what year was the great fire of london  1566 1600 or 1666. the correct answer is 1666. uh remember turn it upside down 999 it  should be 666. well done good job who designed   saint paul's cathedral william shakespeare samuel  peeps also christopher wren the correct answer is   sir christopher wren because you've got c  for cathedral and c for christopher wren   remember this guys okay c for cathedral and c  for christopher wren who kept a diary in 1666   william shakespeare samuel peeps also christopher  wren william shakespeare was dead by 1666 so he   wasn't alive samuel peeps buried a cheese  and wine in his garden and he kept a diary   and so christopher wren had the wig and he  was an architect lead paint and you know bo   so it is samuel peeps well done what did isaac  newton discover gravity electricity or science what happened he took a an apple dropped on his  head so what did isaac newton discover was it   gravity electricity or science the correct answer  is gravity great job everybody wow what an amazing   lesson you
