How To Pack for Europe with Only a Carry On! | Minimalist Packing Tips | Travel Capsule Wardrobe

[Music] in today's video I'm going to show you how I pack for a 10-day trip using only carry-on luggage hi and welcome to Faith and Flower I'm Robin over my years of frequent travel both within the US and to Europe I have learned how to bring everything I need so that I can avoid baggage claim at the airport which speeds up travel time and eliminates the hassle of lost luggage no one enjoys spending the extra time it takes to wait for your luggage when you reach your destination and if you learn that your luggage is missing the hassle of tracking it down doing without what you packed for your trip and possibly rearranging your plans to make phone calls and be available if and when it can be recovered is an inconvenience to say the least that has happened to me on more than one occasion and is something that can be avoided in addition traveling with less can make your entire experience so much more enjoyable navigating through the airport is easier when you don't have to deal with a lot of baggage and when traveling to places like Europe you will be able to get around using trains trams and Subways so much easier without all of those extra things that you don't actually need you will have more control over your itinerary and will be free to enjoy all of your experiences more fully foreign [Music] the airlines that we use both within the United States and when we travel in Europe and around Europe allows one free carry-on in additional to a personal item so this is my carry-on luggage it is from calpak and I'm also going to be showing you a duffel bag which I use as my personal item I will put links for everything that I use down in the description box and I'll have some Alternatives there from Amazon for you if you're interested Airlines can have their own set of rules so make sure that you check out their website as you are planning so that you will know how to pack accordingly for instance if you are using an economy Airline within Europe oftentimes they have a very strict rule about the size of your carry-on the weight of your carry-on and you are usually only allowed one item not two so definitely check so that you won't be disappointed when you are arriving at the airport in my travels it has been my experience with the airlines that I use both domestically and to and from Europe that they do not weigh carry-on luggage so that's not a factor that I'm going to consider in today's video I also use packing cubes I'm a huge fan this set also comes from calpak I have another set that I really like that comes from Amazon because they keep my clothing neat and less wrinkled and it keeps my suitcase beautifully organized so that I can find what I'm looking for easily foreign here are all the things I'm going to be putting in my main piece of carry-on luggage in one of the smaller cow packing cubes I have packed all of my underwear socks bras and several camisoles and those are key in helping me wear my outfits more than once while I'm on this trip I like that these bags have a handle there's also a place to label if you really want to get organized and on the back there is another zippered compartment so I can put a few extra things in there as well [Music] foreign I like to use one of these little jewelry pouches I put one in the Travel section of my Amazon store you can find the link for that down in the description box it's got lots of little pockets so I can Corral all of the earrings necklaces and bracelets that I want to take along and when I cinch it up everything stays in place nothing gets Tangled together I'm always sure to bring along a bag that can contain my dirty clothes so this one is a large sweater washing bag and I can use it to wash my delicates while I'm on my trip and I can use it to collect and Corral anything dirty as I go along my luggage has a front compartment that is easy to access and so that's where I'm going to put my e-reader a notebook and my laptop for this trip [Music] for pajamas I like to pack a couple of different types so that I will be prepared whether our room is cold or warm of course it's always important to check on the weather where you are going to be staying so that you will pack the right type of clothing where I'm going it will be somewhat mild during the daytime and a little bit cooler in the evenings so I'm packing three different types of sweaters such as this long sleeve open front cardigan a lightweight short sleeve sweater that can be worn alone or layered over some of my blouses and another lightweight but very warm long sleeve sweater which will be great one alone or also layered over my other blouses I'm also packing one dress and I would choose one that doesn't wrinkle easily one skirt this pencil skirt will work with all the tops that I have packed and one pair of jeans I will pack and one I will wear on the plane I'm packing four blouses and I'm planning to wear each one at least twice on my trip I try to select ones that will remain fairly wrinkle free and two of the ones that I'm bringing along have these tab sleeves so they can be worn long sleeve or three-quarter length which makes them really versatile depending on the weather my favorite way to make sure that they stay fresh on the trip is by wearing a camisole underneath then I hang both the camisole and the blouse overnight to freshen them up and air them out and usually unless I spill something I can wear them a couple of times with no problem and I can also create a lot of different looks layering the different blouses with the sweaters that I've brought along for shoes I'm bringing along a pair of flats and a pair of sneakers both of these I will pack in my luggage and I also have a pair of booties which I will wear on the airplane in the medium-sized packing Cube I'm going to pack my jeans the skirt and the dress along with all of the blouses I love how everything stays neatly folded within the packing Cube and if you need to you can use the packing Cube to compress everything so that you can fit in more items [Music] sweater something John pajamas will all fit into the smaller packing Cube [Music] for shoes I feel that it's really important to pack them in some type of bag you can use plastic grocery bags or you can use cloth bags like these this one actually came with this pair of sneakers and I saved it just for this purpose it's a great way to keep your shoes crowd and also to keep the dirty soles of your shoes from touching your clean clothes within your suitcase save cloth bags like these for this purpose and I'll use another one for my flats [Music] foreign is a little bit different for this one on the zippered side I'm going to put the large packing Cube and my sneakers to keep my suitcase balanced and not top heavy I like to put the shoes or any heavy items on the bottom of the suitcase near the wheels so that's where I'll put the shoes this suitcase offers a lot of little pockets and I'm not utilizing them as much as I could but I am going to use this one to put my laundry bag and I do find that throughout my trip it's nice to have little spaces like that too tuck brochures and things that I collect along the way so I'll put in both of the small packing cubes here and on the side I will tuck in the shoes and my little jewelry case these shoes are very lightweight so they won't affect the balance of my suitcase and they fit perfectly on the side [Music] foreign [Music] features of this piece of carry-on luggage is this outside pocket where I can tuck my laptop and my e-reader I can put my phone and my wallet in here as well giving me very easy access when I go through airport security and also for me to access anything that I'd like on the airplane these Pockets give my electronics a lot of padding and the strap ensures that they are kept in place I could opt to put these in my personal piece of luggage they would absolutely fit in there there's a great place for each of these items there but I think this will be a little bit easier especially when it comes to airport security [Music] now I'll show you everything that I'm going to be packing into my personal item which is a duffel bag that is small enough to fit under the seat in front of me this waterproof pouch came with a packing cubes from calpak and it's the perfect place to store all of my electronic items so I have my camera some other filming equipment in there along with chargers for my phone and laptop of course when traveling by airplane you have to contain all of your liquid and gels in a quart size Ziploc bag or similar clear container so these are all of the items that I am bringing along I have a blow dry spray that's in a travel size a travel size mousse and hairspray the hairspray I can refill a travel toothpaste and I will be filling these clear containers with shampoo and conditioner I have some eye makeup remover and some cleansing oil a quart size bag really doesn't hold a lot so I try to limit what I need to put in there by opting for a powder foundation as opposed to a liquid for example I packed two other pouches this one contains all of my makeup and the other one contains my toiletries generally I keep my makeup routine really simple so it's easy to Take Along everything that I use on a daily basis I have all of my brushes I've got my eye makeup my mascara some people will say you need to put that in your liquids bag so you can do that I've got powder foundation blush brow powder a lipstick and my eyelash curler my favorite perfume company sends me sample packs periodically so I saved those for my trips because each sample pack contains a towelette that's moistened with a perfume so I don't have to worry about packing my perfume with my liquids foreign [Music] toiletries go in the other pouch I like dividing things into smaller groups because you can configure them and fit them into your carry-on luggage easier and when you need something it's easier to find and pull it out while you're traveling this mirror is one of my favorite things to pack along it is lighted and it has a magnifying side which makes it easy to put on makeup no matter what type of lighting I have my facial moisturizer is in a solid form so I do not have to put it in my liquid bag I have my toothbrush toothpicks dental floss a sewing kit a cleansing bar that I saved from a hotel and for my prescription medication I will put it in a plastic container like this to take up as little space as possible I also make sure that I pack along cold medication just in case some pads for removing makeup Q-tips my Razor and a ChapStick I also throw in a couple of plastic disposable shower caps and I realized as I was editing that I left out my deodorant so it would go in this bag because it's a solid foreign I love using pouches for everything and I put my brush and comb in one as well I find that it protects my brush and comb it makes them easy to locate in my bag and keeps them from rubbing up against anything else this little bag stays in my suitcase and comes with me on every trip I keep it packed with things like hair ties an emery board some Band-Aids bobby pins earplugs all those little extra things that you find you need my keys will go in my personal bag and as I showed you before I can either put my wallet in my phone in my personal bag or my carry-on luggage many times I choose to bring a crossbody bag or a small clutch along but this time I'm going to bring a large tote bag to use as a purse on my trip I can fold it in very flat and it will fit into my personal luggage and take up hardly any space at all [Music] my personal item this Hue duffel bag from cow pack has a special compartment that's padded on the inside for a laptop but as you saw I am choosing to put that in my carry-on luggage this time so it will serve as the perfect place for me to tuck my tote bag foreign [Music] I start by putting my brushes on the bottom you'll notice I'm not carrying along any sort of hair tools I only need a blow dryer and I can always find that at any hotel or if we are staying with friends or family I can borrow one and then I will just arrange all of the pouches so that I can access them easily if I want to get to them during my flight make sure that your liquids bag is near the top and easy for you to pull out because you will need to do that when you go through airport security in most cases then I use any little small compartments or pouches that are built into the duffel bag to store away the little items and I love this little pouch this is the perfect place for my keys and it's attached with this tether so I can find my keys even if they migrate to the very bottom of my duffel bag this bag has plenty of pockets that I could Stow my wallet and phone in so I really have the choice as to whether I want to store those things here in this bag or if I want to keep them in my carry-on luggage foreign [Music] bag also has a really nice outside compartment with a zipper for stowing just about anything that you want to have easy access to and it comes with a padded shoulder strap which I find really useful when it's not riding on top of my carry-on luggage I also like that the sides can be unsnapped to expand especially if you come across a couple of souvenirs that you'd like to bring back however one of my strategies is to keep the souvenirs to a minimum I really enjoy taking a lot of pictures and just remembering all the activities that I participated in and allowed those to be the souvenirs for my trip on the plane I'm wearing my second pair of jeans these are in a slightly lighter wash and I like to wear it without a belt so that I don't have to deal with that when I'm going through security a t-shirt a lightweight scarf which adds a little warmth in case it's cold on the airplane and I can use to accessorize my outfits on my trip and a light puffy jacket that will give me some warmth and I can be worn with all of the other outfits as well and I like to wear some of these bulkier items on the airplane so that it minimizes what I have to put in my carry-on luggage this is probably the same outfit that I will wear on my return trip as well and of course on my feet I am wearing my boots because these are my bulkiest pair of shoes and so it's best to wear those on
