so there seems to be a collective consensus that overpacking sucks and I think most of us try to avoid it if we can since summer travel season is coming up I'm going to show you exactly how to pack light in a carry-on only because I'm going to go ahead and say it carryon is the only way to travel yes I know I triggered some of you in the comments by saying that but let me know where is the lie in my experience packing with gigantic luggage every time gets clunky heavy it's expensive and there's nothing quite like that level of anxiety when you're waiting to pick up your bag but you're secretly wondering if you're going to be stuck with one pair of undies through your whole trip because the airline lost it I don't know about you but that's not how I want my vacation to start which is why I started traveling carry on only exclusively and you don't even end up wearing half of what you packed anyway so why bother paying to carry it around for nothing let me know in the comments each time I need to pack I feel like I can refine the process even more so that's that's what we're going to do in today's video so let's get into how to finally stop overpacking and how you can successfully take your next trip using a carry-on bag only one of the most important things to think about when packing light is the type of bag you're going to bring if I'm flying I always travel with one carry-on bag and one personal item my favorite for the last 2 years now has been my carry-on Pro Plus bag from monos who I'm excited to share are sponsoring today's video I've gone to New York London Copenhagen and Iceland with this bag and it's legit it's a hard shell suitcase made of Aerospace grade polycarbonate so it's basically unbreakable which is unbreakable which is unbreakable it's incredibly lightweight so it's really easy to push and pull and it's got 360° wheels so it moves around really smoothly this extra front compartment is another great Touch where it'll easily fit a 15-in laptop if you need it and anything else you may want to quickly access at security like your passport or your airpod this bag will easily fit into the overhead bin for major US Airlines but just note that it may need to be gate checked on smaller planes so I'll leave the specs in the description box below for you a lot of you got really upset with me in my other packing videos saying that this bag is too big for smaller planes but I've flown on airlines like Porter and Ryan a without issue or any extra charge see I bring receipts but always be sure to check your Airlines baggage policy before flying I'm not going to lie I've been really impressed with the quality the attention to detail and above all the usefulness of these bags they really don't skip on the details and it makes for much less of a panic to get all your stuff in the bin at airport security oh my God okay it's happening everybody stay calm stay so if you're interested in checking out monos I'll leave everything Linked In the description below all right let's get into packing okay so I've done my fair share of packing videos on the channel see and each time I've tweaked the process to see how I can refine it even more last time I tried something called the 54321 packing method on my twoe trip to London and Copenhagen which was in the middle of winter by the way and that was pretty handy but I still felt like I ended up overpacking if you want to see that method in more detail you can watch my video right here so this time I'm going to take that 54321 framework but just tweak it slightly so I'm going to pack Four Tops three bottoms three pairs of shoes two layering pieces one set of pajamas a bathing suit a set of workout gear and any other accessory I feel like I need and feel free to adjust this as you like swap out a bottom for a skirt or a dress or swap a shoe for an extra top tweak this to your needs your destination and your perspiration level but I think this is just enough to maximize your outfits for where you're going for 2 weeks or more without feeling bored with your clothes or having them get too stinky and before you freak out and tell me that you could never do this I'm going to let you in on a little secret the key to packing light like this is laundry bring clothes that both wash and wear well in addition to being cute I mean you are very cute already but you know what I mean and you're good to go all right so packing light is definitely a skill and it helps to think about a couple of things before you go ahead and choose your items since we are limiting the everyday clothing pieces it's really important to choose ones that feel good but are also versatile and wearable for where you're going instead of thinking about what outfits you're packing consider if that item can satisfy these three criteria the weather the activities you'll be doing and the overall Vibe of the place is it going to feel Breezy tropical and Bohemian or are you visiting a major fashion Hub or mountain town so because you have to consider quite a few things when you're packing I think it's important to pack clothes that are versatile and mix and match easily consider the role each item plays in your packing and consider how they play with each other so with this in mind I generally like to make sure I stick to my fundamental without fail pieces that I wear all the time and that I know I feel good in this generally for me isn't much of a time to experiment and mix it up I like to bring some items that are casual some that feel more elevated and some that are for Pure Comfort this way I have all my bases covered and I can focus more on my destination and less on my out fit I'll show you what I mean once we get packing if you want to try this yourself I also have a free carry-on only packing checklist that I'll leave for you in the description below you can save it on your phone or print it off and keep it in your suitcase so you'll never leave home without your toothbrush again cuz it's happened all right let's get packing so I always start off with packing socks and undies and my general rule is packing one pair for every day that you're away plus one extra because you never know Travelers Di diara is a real thing for Tops I'm going to be packing one bodysuit one t-shirt one tank top and one button down for my layering pieces I'm going to do one jacket that I'm wearing on the plane one Blazer and one Thin sweatshirt in case I get too cold and for bottoms I'm going to be packing one pair of jeans a dress I know be shocked and a comfy pair of pants that can be dressed up or down in terms of packing the actual clothing I like to use these packing cubes because I find it's just a lot easier to keep things organized and I can see everything that's in there at a glance they also provide an added layer of protection in case something explodes in your bag because it has happened and it will happen again if we're going away from more than a week I do like to do laundry at least once so I always pack a couple of these true Earth laundry strips with me too they take up literally no space and they're perfect for hand washes in the sink or with a regular load of laundry if you end up having access to a washing machine while you're away so in those go so there's kind of an agil debate on whether or not you should roll or fold your clothes and I'm just going to say you do you here for t-shirts and shirts I just grab it by the collar and then let the T-shirt fall down the way it wants to and you just clean it up a little bit and then fold it in half and fold it in half once more and here you go you have this cute little brick that you can stack vertically tank tops and bodysuits are a little bit more tricky but you essentially want to create a little rectangle out of the Garment and then fold it into thirds I do the same thing for things like jeans and trousers and you can see that these fold up really neatly and easily if you want more in-depth tutorial on how I do this you can watch this video here but I like doing this conari sort of brick method because this way you can see your clothes vertically and at a glance and the wrinkling really isn't too bad so I've just always done it this way roll fold vacuum seal you do you moving on to shoes I'm packing three pairs because the ones I toes don't really take up a lot of space and as a general rule I always wear my most bulky shoe on the plane which in this case will be my sneakers I like the samba here because they're minimalist and fashion forward so they'll match with everything else I'm bringing with me but I'm also going to be able to walk in them all day without issue or even work out in them if I want to then I'm bringing a pair of flip-flops for the pool and these ones from tikis are legit I've literally walked miles in these by now and they've still held up and have never given me blister so they're going in and for a bit more of a feminine elevated but still minimal shoe I'm packing these ballet flats they're from a brand called 80 and they are literally the most comfortable ballet flats I've ever worn plus they're cute so they're really going to dress up an outfit when I want that and finally I'm packing some woffs like a belt some cool sunnies and a bathing suit that's a new thing that I like to make sure I pack every time because depending on the hotel you stay at or wherever you're going there may be things like a hot tub sauna Spa that kind of thing that you might want to do so it's a good thing to bring just in case that doesn't take up a lot of space I'm also going to bring my PJs a workout set and this cross body bag from Lululemon is something that I bought from my last trip and I found it to be really handy for carrying any Essentials during the day handsfree so with that set of the bag packed I'm going to move on to the other side of the luggage which is where I usually store my more clunky items like my makeup bag hair straightener camera Tri OD cuz I'm always filming when I'm away shoes and any other things like voltage converters and a really small umbrella listen always travel with an umbrella you will not regret it especially if you're going to Vancouver which I forgot my umbrella for so there you go now moving on to liquids and toiletries a lot of your creams and liquids will need to fit into those 1 lit TSA approved bags so I think it's best to focus on the essentials only here if you're staying in a motel or Airbnb I think it's important to check to see if they Supply things like shampoo conditioner and body wash so that way you don't need to pack it for anything else I like to decant my skin care into these little reusable bottles that I got off Amazon and I really only bring what I need cleanser moisturizer and sunscreen try a minimalist skincare routine while you travel you don't need all that stuff for makeup I generally prefer cream products but some airport security is really picky and I learned the hard way so pack with caution this is why I prefer to pack a face palette that basically has everything you need this one from hourglass is ancient but it gets the job done with blush bronzer highlighter and face powder and I'm pretty much good to go then I pack my toothbrush floss some Q-tips Band-Aids pimple patches because my skin hates flying and we're good and any liquids I'll carry with me in my backpack until we get through security so it just feels like less of a rush and then when I get a second I end up putting it back into my luggage when I get to the gate for my one personal item I always bring a backpack because I don't like feeling lopsided even though shoulder bags are cuter so in my backpack I'm bringing things like my Vlog camera and all my tech for that I have this really handy Electronics case that I got off Amazon that holds everything I need like my phone charger extra cables SSD drives my airpods SD cards it keeps it really nice and organized and Allin one place place and bonus is that it's waterproof I'm going to bring an empty water bottle because planes are insanely dehydrating some athletic greens travel packs because vitamins my passport my wallet and that's pretty much it so that's exactly how I pack for travel in a carry-on bag only no matter where I'm going and no matter for how long all that ever really changes is the amount of socks and undies that I bring if you watched the whole video and got some value from it leave me a PL Emoji in the comments and let me know where you're traveling next thanks again to monos for sponsoring this video and if you're looking to get some new bits for your travels the link is below to check them out as always if you like
