hi everyone I'm Jonathan lamb and welcome to how to make liquid animation titles in After Effects in this course you'll go through the step-by-step process of how to create one of these popular organic liquid animations to your videos starting with how to use these ready-made templates found on inverter elements we'll go through how you can edit them to make them your own topics we cover will include how to create the liquid animations from scratch how to create different colors and how to animate the text by the end of the course you'll have a better understanding of these tools and how to make liquid animation titles in After Effects this course is perfect for animators artists and designers who are both old and new to Adobe After Effects so sign in or sign up and let's get started hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson we'll go through our initial setup and familiarize ourselves with After Effects and the tools we'll be using throughout the course if you're already familiar with using Adobe After Effects you can skip to the next video now to get started on preparing the liquid animation so let's get started by taking a look at how to load a workspace to do this let's go to window at the top here then go to workspace and over here we can go to defaults over here or standard this will hopefully make it so that you're seeing the same layout and options on screen as well I'm showing you in this video and throughout the earth lessons otherwise we can edit the way your workspace can look like you'll also notice that there are some other workspace options that we can have a look at and experiment with so let's go back to window here and workspace and now you can see all these other options here and these will usually be named after the tasks that they're most suited to such as animation effects and motion-tracking but for now let's go ahead and stick with the standard layout here which you can also you can also load by pressing Shift + f12 on the keyboard and this will have all the tools we'll need to use for this for this lesson so now that we have our workspace loaded let's go into a quick introduction of what we are looking at here the workspace in After Effects is made out of panels and frames so if we go ahead and look at the tabs around our workspace here such as project effects and controls the info tab here and the audio tab here at the top right these are what are called panels now each panel within is within a usually rectangular space such as this one here highlighted in blue and these are called frames now we can easily adjust these size and width of the frame by moving our mouse over the edge of this blue line here so that the mouse turn that the mouse cursor turns into these two arrows indicating that we can click and drag to move it up or down now we can also do this on the other sides of the frame like soap so it can move this frame left or right to make it wider and this could be useful if you want to see more options within our panel so say for example if we wanted to see more options within preview we can go ahead and move our mouse to the bottom of this frame and then move it down and you can see straight away here we've got more options here available to us now you can see we've got this dead space on the right here so let's go ahead and move the panel to the right here so we can get rid of that we can also move panels to different areas of the workspace now to do this we want to grab one of the names panels using the mouse so let's go ahead and to click on the info panel here and we can then go ahead and click and drag the mouse over to different areas now you'll notice now that we've got different drop zones which are now highlighted as we mouse over them now these will be new placements for the panel now the placement of the panel depends on the drop zone area so for example if we place our info panel over the outer edges of this frame so you can see here we've got the left one the bottom one the right and the top if you move it to the right one here you'll see that it will appear beside the frame so let's go ahead and demonstrate this for the other side as well so we can move this to the left however if you wanted the if you wanted a tab within the frame so you can see here we've got two tabs here within a frame project and effects it controls if you wanted the same for the middle here we can click and drag info and move it into the middle drop zone and now you'll see we've got the info panel and the composition panel inside the same frame like so so another trick that you might find useful is to make a panel floats now this is mainly useful for those of you with two or more monitors so say we wanted the info panel let's grab this again and we wanted to move it into the second monitor so let's go ahead and click and drag the panel again as you would do normally if you wanted to move it and then whilst holding the mouse button press and hold the control key on the keyboard or the command key if you're using a Mac now you'll see once I start moving it with the control key held down we can simply now click and release the panel like so and now you'll see we've got a floating panel that we can now go ahead and resize like so cool now to reset the workspace to what it was originally let's go ahead and go back to the window menu here and then select workspace and then let's go back to reset standard to save layout like so cool alternatively if you wanted to save your new workspace we also go to window workspace now you can go ahead and save the new workspace by clicking on this option here excellent now in the standard workspace you'll be namely you'll mainly be focused on four different areas now the left area is where you'll see things like the project panel and this is where you'll find all the resources of the project such as imported logos and compositions that you've created in this course we'll be using this area to access other access our compositions and files such as our background images from invite o elements now the bottom area here will be where all your layers are kept and the timeline for the composition is just next to it which takes up most of the space as we'll be needing this space to time our key frames of our animations and various effects correctly for our animation to work the center area here will be how you can preview your animation video and to the right is an area where you'll see where you'll find the effects and presets that we all use for our animation and also the video control preview buttons which is over here so feel free to experiment with different workspace layouts to come up with something that you like remember you can always reset the layout to its original form if you don't like it or load a layout that you've previously saved excellent so that's it for this lesson in the next video we'll learn how to use the liquid animation templates which you can download from Envato elements you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson we'll go through how to download set up and use the liquid animation templates available in inviter elements so these templates that you see here are very quick and a very easy way to add these popular animations to your videos so to get them first you need to sign up to invite our elements and create an account so let's go ahead and go to the front page of the website by typing elements dot and Vito com so you can see here elements dot and Vito calm and upon entering the website you'll be greeted with some examples of digital assets that we can use and access and to choose from so we've got graphics video audio presentation templates and all sorts of other all sorts of other assets that you can use for your projects so you can see the full list at the top menu here so if you go to browse you can see all the options here that we can browse from or if you have anything specific that you want to look at you can always type it in the search box here so signing up is a fairly straightforward process which you can start by clicking on the top right of the website here so if you already have an account click on the sign in button on the top right here or if you don't click on the create a free account button here and this will take you to the sign up page where all you have to do is fill in the form and create an account excellent so let's go back to the front page of in vital elements and then what we want to do from here is we want to click on the drop down menu next to the search bar here and then we want to select video templates so let's go ahead and select the video templates here so we can search just within the video templates options and then in the search bar we want to type in liquid animation and then hit the search button now you should be able to see and find two templates that I'm looking for in the results screen here so the ones that we're looking for is liquid titles which is the first result and also we can also download liquid effects animation pack which is also another similar another similar template with more animations that we can use so to use these and to download these all we have to do from here is click on the download button on the bottom right of the thumbnail or if we want to go ahead and view more details of these templates just click on that B click on the the icon there we can actually go ahead and play what the template looks like so we can have a preview of what it looks like here cool so once you've downloaded them we can head back into After Effects where we can begin to work on them so when you have downloaded the templates you'll be presented with four different folders so we've got assets help files text preset and work files so as we're mainly interested in the liquid animations and how to use them we want to head into the after-effects farm which is located in the works file folder so you can see here we've got the liquid animation title After Effects files here another folder that may interest you is the assets folder so if you go back and head into the assets folder you'll find here all the different ink splash animations as video files which may be useful to more advanced users of the course so a quick note before we begin you must have Quicktime installed in order for these templates to work correctly without QuickTime you may get something like a converting ratio the nominations error which will prevent you from using the template properly so now with that out of the way let's go ahead and look at what's inside the liquid animations title templates so going into Adobe After Effects let's go ahead and open up the file so go to file open project and open up the liquid animation titles file like so and you'll get a window pop up here to make sure that you've got the right version of After Effects so if you've got the latest version of After Effects you should be fine so just click OK and then once the project has loaded you'll be greeted with the main comp now this is where we'll render our final video footage so you can see here in our timeline we've got the main animation composition here which which is the animation and if we look at the layers here it consists of four layers now the first three layers are adjustment layers here so we've got the turbulent overlay the content and the texture and the fourth layer here is the most interesting one as this is the layer which is our composition and contains all the content of the project so let's go ahead and double click the contents layer to open it up and you'll see here we've got all the different liquid strokes that is available inside this composition now another way to view what's inside the compounds the content composition is by clicking on the content tab which is over here now this is usually only appears once it's been opened using the project panel at the top here which is where you'll find the most important comps main comp contents and colors and preview strokes so like here if you click on main compare you can open up the comp and you can see here we've got the colors content main comp and preview or strokes comps which is exactly the same as what you see on the tabs here so you've got Mein Kampf which is this one the content which is this one colors which is that one and preview all strokes so they're all they're all the same so if you ever accidentally close one of these tabs let's close all these tabs here you can always double click on these comps here to open them up again so let's go ahead and open all of these like so excellent now once we're inside here you'll see let's go back to the content tab and move it along here so we can make it back to what it was before and we can go ahead and scroll down that the list of layers is absolutely all the liquid animations available for you to use straight away so let's go ahead and hide the text layers here so free order these by name hopefully we can let's go ahead and find all the text places so we don't we're not going to use the text layers for now so we can click on the I icon here to hide all the texts as we're not going to be using them just go through the whole composition now you can see as we scroll through as we scroll down this composition the absolute number of strokes that is available for you to use now I understand that seeing all of these layers can be a little bit overwhelming to some people especially when there's over a hundred strokes included in the template so while I would recommend in this case is to simply delete most of the layers here except maybe the few that you like to look off now we can ensure that we select the right stroke animation by clicking on the eye icon so let's say we're interested in stroke number 17 so let's move to the very beginning of our timeline so that we can see exactly what we're doing and move the animation to the beginning of our timeline here like so and if we move our our animation here suddenly were greeted by all these strokes which may make it a little bit difficult to find which stroke is the one we've selected so if we go ahead and click on the icon here hopefully you can see which stroke is the one that we've selected so you can see here let's go ahead and zoom in to our composition now if we hide this stroke number 17 the one that disappears is that pink stroke in the middle here so that's the one that we've selected so now we know that we've selected this pink one as we move up and every as we move them up and down the timeline here you can see that's the one that's been animating cool so now if we just focus on stroke number 17 for now so let's go ahead and hide the rest of the strokes here like so so just go ahead scroll down and hide all of these like so just so that we can make it a little bit easier to focus on what we've selected cool now if you want we can also select a few more strokes so let's go ahead and select liquid them 15 move this long here and let's show that so that's this nice-looking red colored one and let's go ahead and use stroke number 25 as well so number 25 doesn't appear until two second mark so you'll see that it's the white stroke here this one here like so cool now we can focus on just these few liquid stroke animations and how to change their color now there are two ways to change the color of the liquid stroke the first is to select one of these strokes so let's go ahead and select number 25 so I'm just going to hide the number 17 and 15 for now just so we can concentrate on this one let's find a nice nice stroke so we can see so we can see the bark of the stroke here at the bottom so now that we've selected this one we want to go over and click on the effects and controls panel which is usually located here now if it's not like it is in my example all we have to do is go to window and if we want to scroll down until we see effects and controls at the bottom here so let's click on that and now you'll see we've got the effects controls at the top here like so now this is where we can change and edit the color of the selected stroke so we've got the map black and map white colors so we can have the shadow color and the main color so let's go ahead and click on the color color box here so map a black is the shadow color and we can change the shadow color like so so you can see as I change the color automatically changes on our strokes are for wanted to make it a red color I could do it I could do so like so and then map white is the highlight so I want to make the color the highlight a little bit lighter and Matt black is the main color of the stroke cool so now if we go ahead and play our stroke you'll see now that it has changed into this red color instead of the white color that we had before awesome now the second and easier way to change the colors of the stroke is by making use of the colors composition which can be found in this tab here now once you open up you'll see that we have this whole rainbow of carefully selected colors to choose from but are ready to be applied to the stroke so simply click on the number of the color that you like to use as you can see they've been numbered 1 to 18 so if I wanted to change our stroke to a nice purple stroke let's go ahead and click on number 10 and you'll see you'll notice on the effects and control panel that has changed to the colors which we see in our composition here now all we have to do here is click on the tint so let's go ahead and click on tint in and we can go ahead and let's click on this and press ctrl C on our keyboard to copy it and now if we go back to our content composition and let's say we wanted to change the color of the stroke again sternness move this stroke here like so so we can see this stroke again we can select the tint of this liquid stroke and then press control V to paste the colors excellent and now we've got a new color for our stroke which is the purple one that we've selected cool so that's it for this video in the next video we'll learn how to add footage see you all there hey everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course cool now that we know how to change the colors of The Strokes let's go ahead and add our footage to the project here so you can do this by going to file import and click on file again select the video file here and click import and then once it's been imported it will appear in the project panel like so now all we have to do is click and drag and drop the file into our content composition like so and we want to move this to the bottom list let's go ahead and click and drag this and move this all the way down to the bottom of our layers just so that any other liquid strokes that we want to use in our animation that will appear on top of our our chosen footage so let's go ahead and move this here like so and you'll see that our footage has also appeared in our conversation preview at the top here awesome now all we need to do from here is move the animation strokes around the appropriate place in our timeline just so that we can see our liquid animations on top of the composition so let's go ahead and include the liquid strokes here like so so I've chosen the quit strokes 417 and also number 5 cool and now if we go ahead and scrub backwards and forwards in our timeline you'll see now we've got our liquid strokes playing on top of our chosen footage awesome now if we wanted to add more liquid strokes like say stroke number 17 let's go ahead and add stroke number 17 here just moving it along the timeline like so we can now go ahead and click on the preview button here you can see all the liquid strokes playing as our footage is playing awesome cool now if you ever wanted to grab more strokes we can also use the preview all strokes content a composition panel here and we can preview each of these strokes individually so if you liked look of number one that's the first one playing then number two is a second play and they're all sort of organized in a nice way where you can preview them one at a time so this could be useful if you're looking for a particular animation so I quite like to the look of this yellow one here so let's go ahead and grab this liquid stroke eight so we can go ahead and highlight that one press ctrl C on the keyboard go back to the contents panel here and we can go ahead and press control V to paste liquid stroke eight let's go ahead and find liquid stroke eight on our timeline and let's drag this at around the four second mark and now you'll see as we go ahead and play at the four second market our yellow liquid stroke is playing the one that we chose in preview all strokes cool so now that's just a quick way to find some strokes that you can use for your animation or your footage now just a quick note on the text layers that we've hidden let's go ahead and unhide the text number nine here and bring this forward in our timeline so we can see it now if you want to use these text layers just find the one that you like like this one and let's go ahead and double click to open them now all you have to do is to change the text is use the text tool at the top here and click on it and then just simply change the text like so excellent now they each come with their own unique animation so if you want to use them just find the one that you like and then see how it's animated like so cool now let's go ahead and head back into our contents a Content composition and you'll see how the text has been changed awesome now this is exactly the same process for the liquid effects pack as well so if you're looking for a massive variety of liquid animations including strokes splashes and transitions I really recommend downloading both of these packs as they complement each other perfectly not only will you have an absolutely massive library of liquid animations to use but you'll also have access to all the cool text animations as well so there you have it how to use the liquid animation template from Envato elements now that you are familiar with the animations why not create custom animations of your own this has the advantage of creating exactly the type of animation that you want with having the full control over the path size speed and shape of the liquid animation in the rest of the course we'll explore how to do this and more starting with how to use splines to determine the path of our animation see you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson we'll learn how to create our liquid stroke animations starting with how to use splines to create the path so let's go ahead and start by creating a new composition to do this go to composition new composition and this will open up the composition settings window where we can set up things such as the size of our video the frame rates and the duration so let's name our composition using the top text box here and let's go ahead and name this liquid strokes and then we also want this to decide the size of our video and the resolution of it now for this course we will be working in 1080p which is 1920 by 1080 pixels next we want to enter the frame rate so a frame rate of 30 is fine for this course and then finally we want to set the duration of our video which is currently set to 10 seconds don't worry too much about the duration for now as we can increase or decrease this as we work on our animation once we have all of these set up we can now go ahead and click OK and our first composition will be created awesome now the first thing I want to do here is I want to set up our preview window here so that it fits our panel like so so just go over here and click to fit to make sure that it fits the panel now that we have our black composition the next thing we want to do is create a new solid so to do this go to layer new and select solid and let's go ahead and name this solid liquid [Music] strokes and we want to keep the size the same size or as the composition so 1920 by 1080 make sure that the color is set to pure black click OK and then click OK next go to the tools at the top of the screen here and we want to select the pen tool here or press G on the keyboard make sure that the liquid strokes layer is still selected and now all we need to do is start drawing the path for our animation now if you're familiar with using a pencil and other applications such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop it works pretty much the same way when you click on a point using the left mouse button you create an anchor point like so clicking again or create another anchor point and we'll create a straight path connecting the two points together by continuously clicking you can keep creating connecting points like so however doing it this way it creates a corner by each point so it's quite sharp and if we wanted to create a curved point so let's say we wanted to create a curved point here all we have to do is click using the left mouse button and then hold the mouse button down to click and drag now we can start creating our path using curved anchor points like so so just click and drag the mouse to make them curved now remember this is the path of our animation so you can create any shape of the pot that you want so this is how if this for example was to be our animation this is the path that the liquid animation will take so once you've finished we can edit the curvature of the path by adjusting the handles of each anchor point so by going over here you can see we've got these handles which we can click and drag to just the shape off like so so let's go ahead and undo these by clicking ctrl Z and let's go ahead and create a curved path for our liquid animations so just going to start the liquid animation on the left of the screen here let's go ahead and create something around here like so so I want the animation to go around the screen and then back into the middle and now let's go ahead and adjust the handles like so just so that you can make the path as curved and as round as possible like this and just adjusting it so that it becomes a nice shape for the path to follow cool so for this demonstration I'd like to make the lines as round as possible just to give the animation a nice flowing and organic look excellent so that's it for this lesson in the next lesson we'll learn how to use particles to create the liquid strokes see you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson you'll learn how to use CC particle systems to create the base shapes of the liquid swirls this includes how to adjust the length and thickness of the liquid shapes so once you're happy with the path that you've created using the pen tool we want to go ahead and select the liquid strokes layer again so make sure that's been selected and then press M on the keyboard this will reveal the mask inside the layer we're going to use this to mark the path to animate the line so now go to effect and then go to simulation and now let's go ahead and select C C particle systems 2 or alternatively you can go to the effects and presets panel here if you have it up and then we can also search for cc particle systems like so select that and then double click that to add it to the layer that we've selected which is liquid strokes let's go ahead and delete the second particle systems as we don't need this now if we go ahead and scrub backwards and forwards in our timeline you'll see that the default setting for particle effects is this sort of firework fountain now we'll need to adjust the settings to make it look a little bit more like the liquid strokes that we want to use so to do this head over to the effects and controls panel to the left here and let's go ahead and change some of these settings so change the birth rate from 4 to 50 and the longevity to not 0.6 and now we want to open up the physics tab here so just click on the arrow next to physics and we wanted to change the animation type from explosive and now let's change it to vortex like so cool now you'll see the animation type has changed completely from the fountain to this sort of vortex animation that we've got here now let's go ahead and change the velocity from 1 to zero and gravity from 1 to zero like so and that will change the animation again completely so now we've got this little red dot here now with these settings we'll be able to animate the particles along the spline path that we created in the previous video make sure that you have the timeline we've set the timeline to the very first frame so let's scrub all the way back down to the very first frame like so and now we want to go to the liquid strokes layer here select the mask path here like so and now press control see on our keyboard to copy go back to the effects and controls panel here and let's go ahead and find the particles systems producer so that's close physics for now go to producer open it up by pressing the arrow here create a keyframe of the position by pressing the stopwatch button here and now with position selected press control V on the keyboard to paste the mask path into our position and now as we scrub backwards and forwards in our timeline you'll see how if the particles follow our path that we created great now to adjust the animation slightly we want to select all the keyframes from the position so let's go ahead and open this up so open effects open up cc particle systems go to producer and here you'll find the position keyframes here and from here let's go ahead and highlight our position keyframes so we can see them cool now from here with with all of these keyframes selected press f9 to easy ease our keyframes awesome now from here we can open up the graph editor so let's go ahead and click on the graph editor button here and here we can go ahead and adjust the speed of our animation by adjusting the handles so let's go ahead and adjust these here so you won't just want to adjust it this way so you can see from our graph our animation starts off slowly and then speeds up towards the end so finishes quickly great from here let's go ahead and go back into our normal timeline and let's go ahead and close all of these here like so and now we want to go ahead and click on the toggle mask and shape path visibility here just so that we can hide our path like so so let's just go ahead and click at that great now all we have to do from here let's go back to the particles settings here again and let's close producer and we want to open up the particle settings and let's change the particle type from line to let's find I think y'all so faded sphere so if we move along the timeline here let's see how this affects our particle or our stroke like so and let's change the death size from not 0.75 to zero and let's change the size of variation to a hundred percent opacity map from fade-out to constant and we want the max opacity to be a hundred percent cool now you can see as we scrub backwards and forwards our particle looks like this awesome so we can also press the preview button to see what that looks like and this is also a good test to find out what the speed of our animation is like so if you wanted to change the speed of our animation remember we can go back to effects go to the producer highlights all of our keyframe animations our keyframes here go back to the graph editor and we can change the speed like so we can make it a little bit faster like so and now click to see what that looks like excellent so that's it for this lesson in the next lesson we'll learn how to add color to our particles see you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson you'll learn how to add color to the liquid swirls you'll also learn how to add some subtle depth using light and shadow effects okay so the first thing that I want to do before we begin doing any of that is I want to go ahead and change the speed of our liquid swells so let's go ahead and make this tiny bit faster so I wants to change the position of our ending animation from this to this now in order to do that we need to highlight all of our keyframes here like so just going to move the timeline to the position where I want it to be hold the Alt key on the keyboard and then just move the end time line here the end keyframe to the position that you want cool so now we've successfully changed the speed of our animation swell excellent now the next thing I want to do because this animation is actually quite fast I want to have the time of our timeline so to do this right click on the empty space here go to composition settings and we're going to change the duration of our timeline from 10 to 5 seconds like so cool so now we've got 5 seconds available to us for our animation excellent alright now that we have our liquid animation that working along our spline correctly let's go ahead and start adding the colors so to do this make sure that the liquid strokes layer is selected so make sure that's selected by clicking on it like so and then go back to the effects and the controls panel at the top here so let's go ahead to the top here like so and from here we want to open up the particle if it isn't opened up already so make sure that part of the particle settings is opened up and then scroll down to where you can see birth color and death color so I'm just going to move the timeline along here so you can see how this affects our liquid stroke now click on one of the color boxes here so I'm just going to click on the birth color and here we can select any color that we want so let's go ahead and say if we wanted to create a nice sort of blue color for our liquid so we can select a blue color here like so making it a little bit brighter like that and we can do the same with the death color so choose any color that you want here like so so we can also use the eyedropper tool to select the same color cool now you'll see that our liquid stroke has been colored in however it's still not looking particularly liquidy so let's go ahead and go over to the effects and presets panel here and we want to type in Joker in the search bar here make sure that the liquid stroke layer has been selected and then double click on simple choker to apply this to the layer so you can see here in our effects and controls panel we've got simple choker now added in great now where it says choke met we want to increase this to a value of around 40 so let's go ahead and click on that and type in 40 as the value excellent now if you scrub back and forth in the timeline you'll see that the liquid stroke looks a lot smoother and a lot more natural than it did before cool now that we have a good shape for our liquid stroke we can start to make a few more adjustments to it for example if you wanted to make the stroke a little bit longer we can come up to the particle systems here again and we can go ahead and increase the longevity here so let's change it from point six to one and you'll see how that's increased the liquid stroke like so let's also go ahead and create a place where the stroke will disappear so you'll see that it disappears at around this mark in the timeline here so let's go ahead and adjust that timeline so it's close just a little bit close to the end of the animation not quite the end here but just about here like so and we once you add a keyframe for the birth rate so let's go ahead so find a birth rate which is at the top of particle systems here make sure you're in the right place for the timeline because I wanted to begin it begin the disappearance of our stroke about about ten frames here like so click on the birth rates stopwatch to create a keyframe that let's open up effects so we can see what we're doing so birth rate we've got here and let's move forward ten frames so let's count this one two three four five six seven eight nine ten and then let's change birth rate from fifty to zero like so so now you'll find that the stroke disappears right at the end of the animation cool now let's go ahead and RAM preview this just to see what the speed looks like so click on preview let's see what that looks like here that's looking good excellent and we can make adjustments to the timing if necessary so once you're happy with the way it's looking let's go ahead and add some shadows and depth to the liquid stroke so to do this we need to go to the effects & presets panel here and let's type into the search bar let's go ahead and remove choker here let's type in bevel and here from here we can see bevel alpha here make sure that we've got the liquid strokes layer selected and we want to double click the bevel alpha here to add this in now let's go ahead and adjust these settings over here just to make sure that we can get the look that we want so from here let's go ahead and change the edge thickness from 2 to 30 and we want to change the light angle here to minus 164 degrees change the light color make sure the light color is set to white and the light intensity we want to set it to more point two-five like so and now you'll find that your strokes has some nice subtle highlights and shadows to them excellent now finally the next thing that you want to do is we want to duplicate and flip the liquid layer so let's go ahead and let's find out if this stroke in fact I think this stroke is a little bit too long first of all so let's change the longevity back to let's say not 0.7 like so cool now making sure that the liquid strokes layer is selected press control D on the keyboard to duplicate it right click on it go to transform which is up here and then select flip horizontal like so and you'll see that it has flipped the heart the layer horizontally so now we've got two liquids stroke layers mirroring each other on the left and the right side of the screen awesome now next thing I want to do here is right click on the duplicate layer again go to transform and instead of flipping horizontally this time let's go ahead and flip it vertically like so and now we've got these two liquid strokes following each other like so awesome now let's go ahead and preview the animation to see what it looks like excellent so that's it for this lesson in the next lesson we'll learn how to add liquid splash animations to the scene see you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson you'll learn how to create a ripple animation using the liquid animation settings and the ellipse shape tool so create a so to create a ripple effect we'll wanted to move to a place in the timeline where the liquid strokes are about to disappear so let's go ahead and move around here so you can see both the strokes connect around this point so that's around when we want these the ripple to appear let's put it around jewel let's put it around this point here like so now this effect when added correctly will give the feeling of impact to the scene so make sure to deselect the layer as we are not going to use either of these liquid stroke layers at the moment and now let's go to the shape tool at the top here now hold down the mouse button to reveal more options and we want to go ahead and select the ellipse tool like so now along the top of the screen we want to select the that's we want to set the fill option to none so just click on the fill option and click on fill and make sure that's been set to none instead of a solid color and for the stroke color we want to use the same color as our liquid strokes here so click on the color here click on the eyedropper tool and we can use the eyedropper tool to select the same blue that we're using for our liquid strokes like so now we want to set the stroke to about 240 so the thickness of the stroke to about 40 and now just hold down the shift key on your keyboard or clicking and dragging the mouse button to create a perfect circle like so now let's use the Move tool at the top here so let's try and select the set for the selection tool first and now we can move the ellipse that we've just created to the center of our screen like so we can also use the alignment tools so if we go to window and select a line here we can also move this alignment over here just so we can see what we're doing and we can use the alignment tools here to make sure that is set exactly to the center like so so I'm just gonna hide the align tool inside this panel here cool now let's go ahead and rename this layer now to rename this layer simply right click and then press click on the rename here and let's go ahead and rename this riffle like so awesome now let's go ahead and start on animating it so let's go ahead and open up contents like so so if you haven't opened it up already just click on the arrow button here and then let's go ahead and open up the ellipse options here now open up stroke 1 and here you'll see all the different properties of the circle that we can animate now the one that we're most interested in is the stroke width so let's adjust the time line to the point where we want the animation to start which is around here and first we want to animate the slice so go to the transform so let's go to transform ellipse here and we want to scale the value all the way down so let's make sure that we've gone to the scale here click on the the little time stamp a button here to create a keyframe I want to scale this all the way down to zero says make 0 here and let's move forward about 15 frames so 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 and then let's change the scale value back up to 100% to create another keyframe cool now you'll see as we move backwards and forwards in our timeline you'll see how the circle is now animating its size next we want to animate the stroke width of the circle so go back to the keyframe where our circle is displayed that 100% and let's set the stroke width to let's say 45 like so just to make it a little bit thicker move forward in the timeline around 15 frames so let's move this 15 frames again 1 2 3 4 5 like so and now let's set the value down for the stroke width to 0 now in fact I forgot to add a stopwatch a keyframe for the stroke width so let's go ahead and add the keyframe here like so move for 15 frames 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 and 1 2 3 4 5 and let's make the stroke width back down to 0 to create another keyframe now you'll see if we scroll backwards and forwards in our timeline our circle now and the mates and then disappears cool now with the ripple layer still selected let's go ahead and press you on our keyboard just to view the keyframes and now we can start to adjust the timing of the animation so for example if we wanted to merge the animation of these stroke widths and the size transformation so all we have to do is select the two key frames for the stroke width and let's just move them a little bit back so the two animations overlap so now instead of animating separately you'll see as the ripple begins to get bigger the width also starts to disappear at the same time it's just moving it a little bit forwards a little bit more backwards like so cool now you can also press on the preview button at the top here just to see what it looks and there just if necessary so let's go ahead and do that just to see it looks like the speed and the timing of the ripple is that looks pretty good to me now let's go ahead and select all the keyframes like so and press f9 on the keyboard to easy ease them now if you wanted to adjust the speed of the ripple animation press alt on the keyboard and then just simply drag the keyframes so let's make sure we've got them all selected press alt on the keyboard and just simply drag the keyframes left or right as we did before with our strokes to make it slower or faster let's go ahead and change this so I've just made the animations a little bit faster like so maybe a little bit too fast let's move it a little bit bigger like so see what that looks like excellent now in order to make the ripple look like it's made out of liquid we want to start adding some effects to it so let's go to the effects and presets panel again and type in so let's remove bevel and we want to type in Ruffin edges cool so making sure that the ripple layer is selected double-click on rough in the edges to add it to the layer so if we move our timeline back to where our ruffle animation is you'll see straight away our the edges of the circle is starting to look a little bit more wobbly so let's change these effects here to make it even more liquidy so let's go ahead and adjust the border settings here so let's change the boiler from eight to let's say 40 to see what that looks like it's a little bit too much so let's bring it back down to 30 like so and we want the edge sharpness from one to ten now if we scrub back and forth you'll see how this is affecting the look of our ripple animation awesome now let's go ahead and add some shadows to this as well as exactly the same as what we did to our strokes so to do this go back to the effects and presets and type in bevel and let's add bevel alpha to this as well change the edge thickness to 50 like so and the light angle to minus 100 and we want the light intensity to be in 0.25 like so let's see how that affects our ripple animation now from here I'm just going to make the width of our ripple animation a little bit thicker so let's go back to the stroke width animation for our our ripple here sness go back here and set of 45 let's make it 60 just to make it a little bit thicker like so and now we can see how that's starting to animates cool so there we have it a nice ripple effect feel free to duplicate this layer and adjust the size and colors as shown in the demo video to make it more dynamic in the next video we'll learn how to make impact splash effects seawall there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson you'll learn how to create and animate impact splashes using splines and the liquid animation settings so first of all let's make a new composition by going to composition and a new composition and let's name this composition splash lines so we're going to want the composition to be 1080p so in 1920 by 1080 the framerate we want it at 30 and let's have the duration at around 5 seconds so 5 to 0 sure and then click OK now to get started in creating these splash effects we want to use the pen tool again to create some splines so let's go up here and use the pen tool or press G on the keyboard and let's create a curved path for our liquid strokes to follow so click around here and then create a another point and then just click and drag to create a curved path like so make sure that there's no fill selected as we had before and that the stroke color is going to be set to white now this is quite a thick line for now so let's bring this down to about let's say 5 pixels and remember we can manually adjust the curve on the path by pulling on the handles so let's go ahead and select the path again with our pen tool and just pull on the handles like this to just adjust the curve of the path it's your liking like so now once you're happy with the shape of your spline we can now go to the shape layer which is over here and let's open it up and now we want to select contents and then open up shape and open up shape one and let's go to stroke one here and set this to from a but cap to a round cap here like so so where it says line cap we can use the drop down drop-down box to sit around cap and then now we can take a look at the top of the layer here and on the same line as contents you can see it has add and a little arrow button here click on the arrow button and from here we want to select trim paths now you can see that we've got trim paths inside our contents here so let's go ahead and close down strokes for now and now we can use these trim paths so let's go ahead and open this up and before we do anything else make sure that we're at the very beginning of the timeline by making sure that our timeline is scrubbed all the way back to the beginning all the way to the left and now from here using trim paths we wanted to add a keyframe by clicking on the stopwatch option which is next to start and end now let's make a small animation for this line so move let's move forward about let's say let's zoom in here and let's move forward about half a frame so if you were to move forward to about here like so and now we're going to add two more keyframes or one for start and one for the end again like so and now let's move back to the first keyframes and we want to set the so let's set the end from 100% to zero like so and now we're just going to highlight all four keyframes right click go to keyframe assistant and select easy ease or press f9 on the keyboard and now with all the frames still selected let's go to the graph editor now what we're going to do is we're just going to use the selection tool and just clicking on one of the handles here on the left just dragging it out just slow down the beginning of the animation a little bit like so excellent now if we go back to our timeline and if we play our animation or scrub backwards and forwards you should be able to see that our line is animating now let's go ahead and make this stroke of our line a little bit thicker so we can see what we're doing and now you should be able to see the line animating like so cool so you can also press play to preview that and just test out the speed of the animation let's make this a little bit faster so let's go ahead and go back to our graph editor I think that faster slow at the beginning and then faster at the end and let's go ahead and play that again to see what it looks like cool now the next thing we want to do is we want to make it so that this stroke also disappears as it moves towards the end of this animation so let's select the end start a keyframe here and let's bring this value all the way up to 100% so now if we press play you'll see how this animation starts and then at the same time disappears right at the end so in order to make this line last a little bit longer let's highlight the first to start keyframes like so and let's bring this forward a little bit like that and hopefully yeah so if we play this now you'll see how the animation sort of starts and then ends so let's have a little bit of an overlap here so it starts and ends at the same time just bring this back just a tiny bit just want to make it seem a little bit more natural okay that cool so that's one of the animations for our line in the next lesson we'll learn how to complete our impact splashes see you all there hey everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course great next let's add a repeater to do this go back to the add what the add button here which is just at the top of where our contents is in our shapes layer let's go ahead and click on that and select repeater over here like so and this will add a repeater option inside our contents so let's go to shape one and let's close trim pass for now and let's have a look at what's inside or a pizza cool now we have some repeater options added to the layer that we can use so once we've opened it up we can select the number of copies that we want for our animation so let's go ahead and select six copies like so but feel free to use more or less to change the look of your splash effect and let's go ahead and move forward in our timeline just to see how this affects our animation now you'll see now that we've added six copies we've got six animated lines but however they're all they're all in one row which isn't quite what we want so let's go ahead and change the position of the repeater so let's go ahead and do that so go to let's see if we can go to transform and if we change the position here from a value of 100 to zero all of the lines should be on top of one another like so so we can't really see the six lines right now now in order for us to see the lines let's go ahead and add a rotation to our repeater so let's change the rotation for six strokes if we want an equal amount of space between our six strokes we'll want to change the rotation degrees to 60 degrees just to make sure that it's all spaced out equally like so so now you can see the our strokes are all spaced out equally now if you wanted to add five strokes instead of six so any other number you will want to make this a little bit more equal the way we do this is to divide the number of strokes by 360 so 360 divided by five would be 72 and now you'll see it's a little bit more equal and the same with any other number of copies so if you wanted to have four like so it'll be 360 divided by four which would be 90 and you'll see that's all divided equally like so let's go back to six strokes and bring the rotation back to sixty like that cool now let's go ahead and adjust the scale here so if we just the scale from 100 percent to about 70 or 80 you'll see now that each of the strokes sort of goes from large to small as it goes down so let's change that number a little bit so it's not as drastic so we've changed it now to about 90 degrees like so cool and that sort of adds a little bit of diversity to the length of each of our strokes now you can also make a duplicate of this layer to add more splashes to the effect so let's go ahead and close all these down and select our shape layer and press ctrl D to duplicate in fact before we before we do that I've noticed here that our splashes aren't aren't sort of coming from the center and because our stroke of stroke itself isn't centralized here so let's go ahead and change that first so let's use the pen tool here and move our stroke into the center like so let's move that to the center if I come down here but let's go ahead and zoom in a little bit more so we can move our anchor point a little bit more fact let's use the section tool so we can move our anchor point thanks so cool that's better excellent so now you'll see all of our strokes are coming out from the middle like so excellent now let's go ahead and close this and press ctrl D to duplicate and for our duplicate shape we want to go into transform and let's go ahead and rotate these slightly just to add a little bit more of a random splash effect for our animation cool so let's go ahead and switch off these shape path visibility for now and press play to see what that looks like excellent so you can see how our splash effect is starting to take shape excellent now let's add another ellipse shape and animate this as well so just going back to here so go to the shapes tool press and click and hold these shape button to choose the ellipse tool and let's just add a small circle to the middle of this composition so in fact let's make it so that our lines are a little bit thinner so you can see what we're doing suss make these shape layers down to about 10 pixels I'm just going to draw a small circle here like so and making sure that neither of these layers are selected draw a shape a small circle and from here we want to fill the ellipse so let's go ahead and click on the fill button here and make it so that it's white and we can remove the stroke so click on stroke and select none for the stroke color excellent now let's set the timeline to about half a frame so something like this and we want to move our shape layer into the middle of our splash like so let's open this up open the ellipse up and go to transform ellipse and now let's go to scale and let's select a let's select the point here for scale and we want to go ahead and choose a value of zero for our first point like so and then on the second one let's move about seven frames forward so one two three four five six seven we want to then make the scale go up let's say about 150 like so select with both keyframes and press f9 on the keyboard to easy ease them and now let's go to the graph editor again and we want to move the graph handles so that the animation starts fast and ends a little bit slower let's go ahead and do that I'm just going to zoom out a little bit just so can see or zoom in just so I can see how these are affecting the graphs let's start this fast so I move the handle a little bit to the left and they all end a little bit slower like so cool now let's go back to our timeline and see how this all animates let's preview this excellent now we want to make it so that the circle disappears as well so let's go ahead and choose a keyframe about let's say seven frames forward so one two three four five six seven and we want to set the value of the scale to zero so set that to zero like so just to make the circle disappear cool so let's have a look what that looks like excellent now that we have our lines and circles animated the next thing we want to do is we want to then make it look more liquidy so let's pre compose all of these elements so let's close all this highlight everything right click and select pre compose and let's call this new composition splash like so choose move all attributes into the new composition and now let's go to effects and presets here and we want to type in roughen edges so make sure you've clicked on the search bar so let's click let's type in rough and edges and here you can now double-click to add that to our splash composition and what we want to do is want to make sure that we're at the very beginning of our timeline and let's add a keyframe for border like so now let's go for words about 15 frames so 1 2 3 4 5 fatness human here a little bit more so you can see what we're doing let's go forward about 15 frames like so and from here let's add another keyframe for border and let's make the value 15 like so so you can see here now our splash effect is looking a little bit more splashy great now let's add a turbulence displace let's go back to effects and presets here type in turbulence displace double click to add that to our composition just going to close rough and edges here for now and let's go back to the very beginning of our timeline here and we wanted to set the turbulence displacement amount so let's go ahead and add a keyframe here and let's set the amount to 20 like so then we want to go forward 15 frames again and let's set the amount here or the value 250 like so just to add a little bit more movement to our splash awesome now you can see here that the lines for our splash is a little bit too thin so to go back to our splash so double click here I'm going to make the lines a little bit thicker for our splash lines so let's go here and instead of 10 pixels let's change this back to 25 and same for the other ones let's change that to 25 go back to our splash just to see what that looks like maybe it's a little bit too thick so let's make that back to about 15 see what that looks like go back to our splash lines and that looks a little bit better cool now let's add a bevel and alpha like we did before so let's go back here it's a prophetic effects and presets type in bevel and double-click to add bevel and alpha here I'm just closing turbulence displace for now and let's go ahead and set the edge thickness to about 10 an angle of minus 60 is fine and the intent intensity to North Point 5 like so just to add a little bit of depth to our splash excellent so now let's go ahead and preview our animation so go back to the beginning beginning of the timeline and press play cool that's looking just like what we want for our splash animation so there we have it a nice splash effect feel free to duplicate this and adjust the size and the amount of lines the splash effect will have and also the colors as shown in the demo video to add more variety to your footage in the next video we'll learn how to animate some text see you all there hi everyone and welcome back to the liquid animation course in this lesson you'll learn how to add text and add a subtle bouncy animation to the text so now that we've got our liquid animations completed the next thing that we want to do is just to add and animate some text to go along with it so to get started with this make sure that we don't have any of the layers selected and let's take our attention to the top toolbar here where you can see the horizontal typeface tool here just go ahead and select that and click anywhere in our composition so you create a new text layer like so cool now from there all you have to do is type in the message that you want to the message or the title that you want included in the project so let's go ahead and type in [Music] liquid animation like so and to change the properties of your text we need to turn our attention to the character panel over here so let's go ahead and expand this like so in fact let's bring this out and send it to the side here so we can see what we're doing and you can see we've got our text set to a stroke here so let's flip that round so that our text is a fill in fact we need to make sure that our text has been selected first let's highlight our text like so and flip this round and let's make the color white like so cool now let's go ahead and change the font as well so the font that we're going to use for this is Titan 1 and we may want to change the size of our font here as well so let's go ahead and click and drag to change the size here so I'm just going to change this to 110 excellent now the next thing that we may want to do is change the paragraph setting so let's go ahead and drag the paragraph settings over here so we can take a look at what we're doing you can align this to the left or to the right or to the center and we want to make sure that this is centralised so again the way that we did this was we went to the align tool just bring the Alliance folder here and make sure everything is centralized in our composition cool now another thing that we may want to do is you may want to change the spacing in between each of these characters and we can do so by clicking and dragging on this icon here so let's go ahead and make sure our text is selected and we can set the spacing of our text to let's say about 74 looks about right now once you're finished with going through all of these different options for our text the next thing we want to do is we want to add some bevel effects in our text so let's go back to effect some presets you can see we've already got bevel alpha here let's double click that to add this into our text layer and we want to make the edge thickness to about 10 and the light angle let's make this minus 57 and the light intensity we can I mean no point force not bad but let's change to not point two just to make it a little bit more subtle or more point three awesome now that we have some depth to the characters that starts to add some animation to it so to create the bouncy animation we're going to add the keyframes and transformations manually so make sure that you've got your liquid animation at layer selectors let's open this up and go to transform and in fact before we do anything else we want to make sure that we enable motion blur here so right next to the graph editor click the box for motion blur just to add some motion blur for our animation and over here for liquid animation text want to enable that like so just enable the motion blur for our animation cool now let's go ahead and set a keyframe for the scale so let's go to the place where you want our text animation to appear so something around let's say two seconds here and let's set a keyframe for scale like so and we want to set the value here to zero next we want to move forward to 10 frames and then set the scale up to 120 like so and this will make the text to grow very quickly in between these two key frames all right now let's go ahead and zoom in to our timeline here's each of the key frames now is going to be quite quite small so from 1050 frames let's move forward five frames and set a new key frame let's make this 85% so it shrinks back down let's move five frames again and set this to a hundred percent so it grows again and now let's move forward six frames so the growth is going to be a little bit slower this time and let's change the scale to 90 percent and now let's move forward 7 frames let's go 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and Justin let's make it grow just a little bit more 5% growth it's a 95 percent excellent now let's select all the keyframes press f9 to set it to easy ease and now if we play this animation zoom out a little bit and play this you'll see we've got this nice little subtle bouncy effect for our animation just go ahead and take a look at that again cool now to add even more bounce and movement to the text we can add another effect called Cece bender so to do this make sure that your text layer is still selected so click on your text layer which is called here liquid animation and now go to the effects and presets panel and let's go ahead and type in CeCe bender oops make sure you've deleted the previous text let's click CC bender double-click that to add this to our layer now let's go to our timeline and open up the effects panel says closed transform for now open up suffix find CC bender and open that up so now we can see how we're going to create some keyframes for our text animation we want to move the timeline to the same keyframes as our previous sort of scale animation and now let's add a keyframe for the amount which is here and let's set this amount to zero so make sure that's set to zero now in order to make things just a little bit easier let's go ahead and close this layer here and now press you on our keyboard just so you can see we're just our keyframes are in this timeline so now to move to the next keyframe here and we want to set the amount here for our CC bender to seven you can see how that's sort of bending our text move to the next keyframe and let's set the amount to minus six so it bends the other way go to the next keyframe here set the amounts to five go to the next keyframe and set the amounts to minus three and finally go to the last keyframe and let's sit it back to zero like so so you can see now with both of these animations combined we've got a cool little bendy text animation like so now let's play the animation again just to see what it looks like and you'll see that the CC bender effect really helps to sell the bounciness of the text animation awesome so that's it for this lesson in the next lesson you'll learn how to download and add footage from vital elements see you all that and you can refine your search using the options below however as we know exactly what type of theme we're looking for we can bar bypass this and go straight to the search bar so over here make sure that stop video is already selected from the drop down menu here let's click on stop stop video and let's go ahead and type in idealic paradise tropical island and then click on the search button now these results would fit perfectly with the liquid animation that we have created so you can preview each individual video by hovering your mouse over the thumbnail images and we can also click into the video that we're interested in and then click on the play button for a higher resolution playback so to go ahead and look at this one so let's click in here click play you can see we've got a big video to preview so just choose one that you like the look off and then click on the download preview button over there or just click on the download button next to the underneath the thumbnail image like so and then once you've done that we'll go back into After Effects back in After Effects we have our liquid and text animation ready and waiting for a tropical island background to be added to scroll all the way back to the beginning of our timeline or near the beginning of our timeline and then go to file import and file and we want to navigate to the folder containing the file that we downloaded so do that and then click on the video file and click OK you can also click and drag the file into the project panel which might be a little bit more convenient if you have the file location open in Windows Explorer now once it's in the project you'll find the file located here in the project panel and now all we have to do is click and drag this file or this footage all the way down to the bottom of our layers like so excellent now straight away you'll see it's been added to our preview window and sometimes we'll need to make a few adjustments to scale the footage so that it fits with the composition so to do this just open up the layer like so go to transform and here where it says scale you can make the footage bigger or smaller according to the size of your composition learn how to render our completed animation and some final touches so going back into our splash lines composition let's go ahead and change the color for our splashes so we want to go back to the splash composition here and it's changed the stroke color to the same blue as the splash or the lines that we have in our original composition and the same for our circle like so and by changing the color in our splash composition the splash lines will also reflect that like so cool now let's go ahead and add splash lines into our main composition here so let's go back to the project panel here click and drag splash lines into our layer stack and let's zoom in to our composition here and we want to make sure that the splash appears in the right moments so let's go ahead and move our timeline to where the ripple effect starts which is around here around 20 frames so let's move our splash lines to make sure that this appears at around 20 frames as well so as the two lines come in you've got a nice splash and ripple effect like so cool now we can also duplicate some of these splashes so let's duplicate the ripple so press ctrl D to duplicate that and we can change the way that the ripple looks so let's go ahead and open up the contents in fact let's go to the ripple effects here and let's change the border and make the thickness a little bit thinner so about 20 and now let's move this slightly backwards so that when we've got the animation it gives the appearance of two ripples like so cool so if we go ahead and click preview to preview this you can see we've got two ripple effects coming out like that and you can duplicate this ripple effect as many times as you want to create a sort of ongoing ripple effect and we can do the same thing with the splash animation so the splash animation we want to bring it back a little bit so that it appears just a little bit closer in fact let's move the splash lines and the new ripple effect further forwards in fact let's choose all three so ripple two and ripple one and let's move this forward so it appears in the right timing when the two lines meet like so cool and then once you're happy with this the next thing we want to do is we want to render our animation so let's go ahead and make sure that the correct composition is selected which is liquid strokes now we want to go to composition and let's go ahead and click on add to render queue like so now here you can make adjustments to the render settings click on best render settings here and in here you can change things like the resolution that you want to use for now we'll just keep it at the original 1920 by 1080 resolution click OK the next thing you want to do is click on lossless which is the next output module here you can change things like the format of the video so at the top here you may have a different format that you want to render in whether it's an avi or a QuickTime video so choose the format that you want to render in I'm just going to click a VR here for now and you can also resize the video here so if you click on this tick box here you can resize the size of your video by entering a different value like so so it's keep it at 1920 by 1080 and then click OK and then lastly you want to choose a place where you want the final file to be placed so where it says output to click on not yet specified and then choose where you want your animation to be rendered to and also we can change the title of our animation so let's change it to liquid animation title and click okay and then all that's left to do is click on the render button on the right here and wait for the final render to finish so that's it for this tutorial in the next lesson we'll go through the conclusion of the course see you all there so with that we've come to the end of the how to make a liquid animation title in After Effects course now that you understand the basics of how to create a liquid animation you can experiment with different ones of your own
