life city family what is up it is bobby coming at you from my second home the grocery store for a really cool video about how to handle high blood pressure and hypertension with food hypertension aka the silent killer because it's on the rise and the cool thing is it's easily manageable with food there are certain foods specifically low in salt but other foods and ingredients that help lower hypertension i'm talking about potassium magnesium calcium-rich foods so what i want to do is go in the grocery store and show you what are the best foods and what are the worst foods for hypertension and high blood pressure before we go in the grocery store and do our thing like subscribe share spread that flav city love but i also want you to check out thrivemarket.com using my promo link in the description box thrive is a six-year supporter of the channel and the reason why i love them is everything you would get pretty much in any grocery store is on thrive market cheaper you save about 32 dollars per order and that box comes to your door they have a really cool price scanner on their app go to any store and scan a barcode it'll tell you if it's cheaper on thrive market which it usually is and right now flav city fans are getting the hookup and they're loving it when you click my link in the description box you get 25 off your first order a free gift up to 31 one of those gifts is a bottle of primal kitchen avocado oil and ranch but if you don't love thrive market it's 30 days risk free so you have nothing to lose so check them out using my link down below okay less talking more shopping let's go in the store the great wall of seasoning spices and salt so obviously you want to limit the amount of salt in your diet when you have hypertension but what if i told you the type or the quality of salt you use as minimal as it could be can make or break whether it spikes your blood pressure or not and it's a hundred percent true my friends because if you're using the kind of salts that i grew up with and you probably have in your pantry right now something like this or a diamond crystal or something like this which is essentially iodized table salt these kinds of salts are processed processed to the extent where they're processed refined bleached and they have all the other minerals taken out of them so essentially all they have is sodium chloride when you have that number one it does spike your blood pressure even more and number two it tastes so darn salty all you have to do it's the easiest swap ever is swap out processed refined salts with unrefined salt maybe the most popular unrefined salt is pink salt but for my money the best one is right here celtic sea salt is from brittany france it is such a tasty unrefined salt that has up to 85 90 minerals himalayan pink salt coming from the pakistani mountain region will have up to 70 60 minerals those minerals not only make the salt taste better but they don't spike your blood pressure so when you're cooking with hypertension yes use less salt but use the right salt this is my favorite one the light gray salt is fantastic uh that price is pretty darn good but if you go on thrive market you could actually get it for cheaper if you don't want to get a whole big bag like that get this right here this is the fine ground celtic sea salt i just checked on thrive market it's 6.99 compared to this price this makes a big difference my friends once again just use my thrive market promo link in the description box get 25 off your first order the free gift and 30 days risk free try this salt not only does it taste better but it's better for you a little bit of salt goes a long way just also do me a favor don't think about using these kind of salts these are low sodium salts they have what 45 50 percent 66 percent less sodium they just put other ingredients in there that are not good you're way better off using the unrefined salts and a little bit goes a long way but because you're using a little bit i would go look at the other spices here to supplement flavor pretty much every grocery store has something like this this is a mushroom powder this is a shiitake mushroom powder these kind of things are umami bombs because when you're using less salt the flavor is not going to be as pronounced something like this which says no added salt will bring out the flavor because mushrooms are umami bombs what is umami it's the japanese word for deliciousness you could actually go to i believe trader joe's and i believe they have an umami seasoning blend i don't know if it has salt or not hopefully just a little bit but i really want you to get ones that have no added salt so you can control the amount of salt in there so get something like this which is tons of flavor combine it with a best-in-class unrefined salt that is how you win the high blood pressure game without sacrificing tons of flavor canned soups can be a minefield because the sodium contents can be off the charts but if you know how to navigate the canned soups you can not only find really good ones that are light in sodium but they contain other ingredients that are high in potassium which i'll tell you why that's really important for me bar none amy's does it right for pretty much all canned soup but if you look at her light and sodium one especially that lentil which i'll tell you why this is what you want light and sodium so it's half the salt of most other soups so a whole can here only has 540 milligrams which is not bad at all but the reason why i like this is twofold number one look at the ingredients what oil are they using to cook here extra virgin olive oil look at most canned soups they will use soybean canola oil those are inflammatory oils which trust me can have an impact on hypertension and the main ingredient is lentils what do we say earlier about uh potassium-rich foods they help your kidney flush out the excess sodium so not only is the potassium-rich lentil helping you out but the light and sodium and the extra virgin olive oil is the way to go grab this soup any of the light and sodium ones are great but i love the two lentil options because of that potassium in there how do we find low sodium snacks but also made with other high quality ingredients that are anti-inflammatory well one of the best in class tortilla chips siete makes a no salt chip and this is not only best in class it's grain free so there's no corn no grains and it's made with avocado oil a non-inflammatory oil that's great i've had it before a little too bland for me but hey if you're looking for no salt that's where you want to go i also want to find something that's high in magnesium and nuts here we go nuts are usually very high in magnesium specifically almonds do i want to go for these no because they're roasted and salted they're using freddy salt and there's too much salt go for this unroasted and unsalted or just roasted and unsalted the cool thing about almonds they're high in magnesium that also helps keep you asleep magnesium but magnesium along with calcium helps to relax your blood vessels which is perfect what you need when you have hypertension so a handful of almonds is great i like them sprouted too a little easier to digest and you know what's interesting there should be some beets here we go beet chips okay i'll go with these the naked i mean no oil no salt beet chips here i'm sure you can find them at many grocery stores put right there potassium high in potassium one bag has 15 percent of your daily uh recommended value remember potassium helps your liver flush out excess salt so this is a nice um snack that's very very crunchy and tasty and helps out hypertension or going back to my new favorite section at the grocery store the cooking oils aisle because when you have hypertension they tell you to avoid saturated fat and instead of eating saturated fat go for supposedly heart healthy oils like canola oil peanut oil sunflower safflower oil i keep hammering this point home and i'm going to keep on doing it because those are not heart healthy oils they're demonizing saturated fat but i'll tell you which ones are the good saturated fat when you start eating those canolas and soyas and safflowers they're inflammatory oils inflammation will increase hypertension will increase cholesterol and increase the likelihood of heart disease you do not want these supposedly heart-healthy oils you'd much rather have the saturated fat they tell you not to eat in the form of grass-fed ghee even pasture-raised beef tallow you'd much rather have virgin coconut oil right here or you can go in the cold case over there and get grass-fed butter these are healthy saturated fats that when they're grass-fed in the form of ghee virgin unprocessed in the form of coconut oil they're really really good for you keep in mind once again your brain is 60 fat it doesn't want processed oils like canola even if it's expeller pressed they're still processed and refined and contain a lot of free radicals that kill the cells in your body and they're naturally inflammatory my favorite to be honest is right down here oh go ahead hold on let me dramatic pause in the video it's okay my favorite is right down here grass-fed d pasture-raised grass-fed greet this is a great brand but what i would do is go on thrive market their private label gee that's grass-fed organic it's a fantastic price and once again when you use my promo link you get 25 off uh your order that is where it's at those are healthy saturated fats that are non-inflammatory and won't lead to other health issues the oils like canola that are supposedly heart healthy are actually the opposite i'm going to do what rose does nowadays not not not now the frozen food section is a tough one so many of these foods are salt bombs but it's also home to one of the best low sodium breads it's always in the freezer section for the most part but ezekiel in general if you eat grains they make the best sprouted grain bread but they also have right here boom goes the dynamite low sodium so this is what's so cool about this bread it's organic if you eat grains in my opinion like wheat they should be organic otherwise non-organic can score high in glyphosate the active ingredient in roundup but this is also sprouted grain bread so if we check out the low sodium one sprouted grains are nutritionally speaking about as good as they get sprouted wheat sprouted barley i mean even has sprouted soy beans you guys know i don't love soybeans but when they're organic sprouted whole soybeans it's totally fine and if you look at the sodium for this one where we got it zero zero grams of added most will have a little bit like the other bread here 80 this will have 80 milligrams this has zero this is the one you want to get the also the other benefit about sprouted grains is that they're easier for your tummy to digest and when you sprout grains which mean you usually soak them in water like overnight or 48 hours nutritionally speaking they're unleashed or i call it releasing the kraken right it releases more nutrition for your body to absorb so go for sprouted grain bread if you have hypertension this is the one you want right here now so many of the meals here are salt bombs too and sometimes you don't feel like cooking right you just want to pop something in the oven uh once again my girl amy has a low sodium line where the heck is it brad you see that amy's low sodiums you didn't see it here oh man that's a bummer okay well most grocery stores even walmarts will have amy's low sodium line and just like the low sodium soups those are the best ones because she uses the best quality ingredients and they're low to no inflammation ingredients so just look for those uh in most grocery stores then pick up that low sodium bread those are your two best options by far in the frozen food section for high blood pressure and hypertension all right family that is it those are the foods to eat and the foods to avoid when it comes to hypertension and high blood pressure aka the silent killer now you know what to get right read the ingredients know what goes in your body and try to do the best you can that is it if you want to see other health related videos leave a comment down below check out thrive market once again use my promo link get that 25 off your first order and your free gift about brad and myself and the whole gang we will see you very soon as always until then hashtag keep on cooking may love and peace later
