hey folks aj the ceo here and in this video we are going to be going over the basics of vmix and just setting up a very basic live streaming setup similar to what you could possibly use at your church so let's go [Music] hey folks aj the ceo here this your first time stopping by the channel thanks for stopping by and on this channel we focus on tips training strategies reviews and bills to help modernize your media ministry so if you're new here consider subscribing and if y'all like what we're doing here consider becoming a patron at patreon.com link is in the description or you can become a youtube member by clicking the join button below so the long long awaited videos coming to using vmix my apologies for taking so long um really like i said most of the stuff that i do is i want to make sure that i know this inside and out before i start trying to talk to y'all about it so that way i don't get beat up but y'all are telling me what i'm the stuff that i'm not doing right with vmix so let's go over just the basics of what is vmix vmix is another very popular live streaming software suite compared to like obs and stream labs obs and all this other stuff like that so it is very popular um now one thing compared to the other ones there there is a tiered pricing model this software is not free the cheapest version of the software comes in at right around sixty dollars now let me take that back you actually can get a free version of the software but it does not really include much of anything with it you can't even do um any type of hd streaming with it so these are the pricing models right now you have four inputs and that's the equivalent of sources for those who ever used obs um you have some ndi inputs you're limited to two the max resolution is seven um 68 by 576 that's not even 720p so like i said that is sub hd um you can do an overlay only one you can do recording streaming obviously to three different platforms at the same time on the same system that's why i do like vmix you don't have to use a service like restream with this as long as your computer and your upload speed can handle it full screen outputs external output you can do scoreboards tickers animated titles all that cool stuff but the advanced designer is locked behind the paywall you can do a playlist like music video something like that professional color correction and then all these other features are locked down i recently actually two years ago i actually had the basic which allows three inputs lets you do hd but you still can only have four inputs so a input would be like your webcam um a video a playing a song is considered an input and then like a starting screen that's it those are only four that you can do and based on how i do my streaming even at my church that's limiting but it is doable all the same features are applied but the main difference between the two is it gives you one more input and it actually goes up to 1080p earlier this year i upgraded to the hd which is oh and the previous one is 60 the hd is 350 or the difference between this price they also have recently changed to where um you only get one year of updates for free if you want another year of updates i think it's another 60 or something like that not a fan of that but hey they need to make their money some way now the big difference between this you have a thousand inputs aka unlimited i don't know whoever is going to use a thousand inputs system will probably tank unless you have a beast of a computer to run that um you also have four overlays you have um actually vmix call which i've used once which is actually really cool um instead of doing like zoom and all this other stuff like that you can actually give them a web page and they just have to have a webcam and they just whoever your caller is is considered a input and you can just pick them to bring up in vmix and they don't even need anything except for just a computer with uh uh a webcam now i never tested this with a phone but i'm wondering if that would work but anyway that's the main thing now all these other ones i really can't test mainly because it comes with other features and i didn't want to i'm not streaming in 4k and then the pro a lot of these features i'm not really using right now so the level that i'm going to be walking you through is hd but i will try and limit what i'm doing to four inputs of what the basic will allow you to do all right so enough about that let's go ahead and cut over to my streaming system where i have this set up and we're going to go through a basic setup and i am going to be using well i'm using the a-10 mini right now to do this but i have a capture card inside of my computer and honestly the concept is exactly the same on if you are adding a different capture device so let's go ahead and cut over to the computer and let's go through this walkthrough all right so here we go here is vmix this is how it normally opens up unless you if you just installed it this is gonna open up um now i need you to understand this is a little bit different than how obs is these is not necessarily a scenes approach it's kind of your inputs you can still build this out but we're going to use the basics of this and i'm going to use some of the assets from the obs complete bundle which i will be making a vmix specific version so be on the lookout for that i'll announce that when that comes out under the community tab or i'll make a post about it all right so in vmix it kind of functions like it's a document you can make your instead of making a scene you can make your layout as a setup so for example i have one for when i do giveaways for my q a with aj that is my whole layout and they automatically make a last if you forget to save it does that i wouldn't count on that but always make sure you save any changes that you do in here so let's go ahead and go through a tour of this i am using the advanced layout you could change it to basic and it gives you less stuff i use advanced because all this other stuff i am going to use let's go to settings here and here's your first one of how what your output size is going to be i'm going to be at 1080p but you could change this to anything differently if you wanted to hear your colors for preview and output that's what these are so you can change those if you wanted to do something different full screen output normally this is what i use if i'm using my teleprompter i have my second monitor hooked up and i can full screen out so when i'm looking at my teleprompter and the camera i can actually see what's going on right here but i have that off so that i can record um what i'm doing you also have your outputs where you can make a ndi output which normally i do have on because of that same setup and you can do a bunch of other things here i want to make sure i don't show my key when i go through this you have your options you see i'm always starting in advanced mode you can turn on extra stuff here and these are a bunch of settings we'll go more in detail on some of the stuff later you could do production clocks all this other stuff if you want to i'm not going to worry about that performance this is where you can turn on using high performance mode leveraging your gpu if you have one as you can see i have a gtx 1650 super in this streaming system so i have this turned on to leverage that um and it says by default so it's using this because that's what it is i have alerts turned on um i disable windows updates when using vmix which is awesome because if i was using this at church a lot of people who've been streaming for any point in time know that windows will do an update when you don't want it to and this will actually stop it alright we have decoders not really using this i keep these pretty much as uh standard you have your recordings so you can set the location of where you want this stuff to record to if need be you have your external um output where you can send this to a different monitor anything like that audio here's your other mix here's your default sound actually i don't have this plugged into my mixer but my mixer is off right now so normally that's what you would see here because this system i really don't use sound i hear it through the stream um audio outputs you can always output different way this is similar to obs like if you wanted to send all your audio from headphones you can send this to kind of like the vb audio cable or something like that if you wanted to that's where you can do that or you can do master output they can be the both the same output or something completely different web control will actually allow you to remotely control vmix from any computer that's on the network which is kind of cool you actually need this on for some other features like vmix social that we'll be covering in another video later tally lights you could have this if you wanted to this will enable a light to show up when you have a certain source selected i'm not really using that shortcuts is how you can make other shortcuts for key commands everything as you can see mine is set up to my stream deck you actually need to add the plugin to the stream deck software for this to work and we'll talk about that later activators i really don't use that and then about which is what i'm not going to go to actually has your key and all the information about your software so that's kind of like a high level overview so let's go ahead and add just a basic setup of everything for string so down here we would do a add a new input and i'm gonna pick camera and i'm gonna add my intensity pro which is the capture card that's in the computer boom and there we go so now i'm now outputting just the input number one from my atem to here that's why you're not seeing a loop of a loop of a loop um so that's really cool um also this is defaultly will bring in audio you're not seeing any audio because i have that off right now if i turned it on now you can see audio is coming through i have the audio turned off on the atem that's why i turned it off i just don't want any echo and nothing crazy like that all right so there there's my source very simple now let's say we want to add um some intro stuff so i can add a video here and you know let me just use some of the stuff that i normally do for my q a well no we're gonna do a church one so let me get some stuff for my church stuff which is not here so i need to copy that over alright so let's come over here we're gonna go to our obs complete bundle we will do our five minute intro that will be now again this is input number two this is what the basic only will allow you to have four of these so we're already halfway through and let's say we're gonna use another um image all right so this would be our thanks for watching type of thing oops i forgot that's actually a video so let's do that again and we'll do this as a uh online giving that's how about we do that all right so that's input number three and then we'll add one more as a thanks for watching or something like that and that will be a video as well too actually no let's do some music let's do music so we'll add audio and we'll add this licensed music all right so if you were using just the basic this is all you could add inside of here and as you can see it's just like um you have the red is what's live right now this is your preview so if i came over here boom this would be going into it then i could do a cut and it'll cut right over i could do a fade and it'll fade over i could do a merge honestly i don't know the difference between the two i normally do fades all right now there's some other powerful things that you can do with this so for example this countdown is five minutes so what you could do is there are properties for each input for vmix so if i come over here to this intro and click on this gear here well actually let me go back real quick each option has other settings right here you can click close which will completely close out the input completely and you would have to add a new one so if i hit close now i only have three inputs you can do a quick play play or pause as input and just you know you have your controls right there if you wanted to you can do a cut where actually let me switch this back so i could do a cut and it would just cut it right over i can do loop so that when it reaches the end here's your play controls here that it will just go let me turn off my picture picture um well actually once we get to the end here since i have it on loop it's just going to start right over again i also have odd i mean there's a pause button right there there's also audio so that means that this input is actually sending audio to your stream right now so as you can see here's the bars if i turn the audio off you can't hear anything or if i turn my sound back on on the atem see this is this color right here showing that there is audio but it's not going out so if i hit audio right here you could hear me talking in the background under whatever's being played so that's powerful all right so let's turn our audio back on you know and now you could do a live preview a large preview if you hit that button which i'm not gonna well you know you'll do this boom there you go and i just clicked to make it go away all right so let's go ahead pause this and let's go to the properties for this intro now there's a bunch of things that you can do here you see your uh your frame rate you can do your audio settings you can change your aspect ratio you can mirror which is what i needed to do when i was doing um when i use my teleprompter now these are some of the awesome settings you can do here so automatic um mix audio means that it's going to mix it with whatever what's coming in do you want to automatically start playing when you do a transition also do you automatically want to restart when it does a transition where it's going to start all over again it all depends this one i wouldn't want to do because it's a countdown i wanted to keep playing all the way through now if you have a song or something like that you might want to do this or if there's another video for giving or something like that that every time you hit it you want to start it over again that's where you would turn that on now if you ever wanted to change what you had you could always hit this change button and you can now change this input to something completely different so it will replace what you had selected all right so let's go to adjust color if you wanted to you can come in here and do some color corrections inside of this here play around with this if you wanted to um you can do auto white balance if you wanted to all that other fun stuff let's go ahead and reset everything because i'm not doing that for this you could do a color key so if there was a green screen or something like that i can get rid of color inside of here and say i want to pick get rid of white so i got rid of the white you can't notice it because i don't have nothing behind it but that's how that would work that's how you could do green screen any type of color screen on your source and then you also have some more color correction here that's the more professional one you can change the position of everything here so you can do a zoom in you can change the location all this other stuff you can do rotates all this other fun stuff with this so the same type of controls that if you were in obs you could do this as well too now you have multi-view you can set this up into different ways where you're actually doing the picture-in-picture um but it's already built in so you don't necessarily have to do this so if you like we're talking about that you have two inputs with a webcam or something like that you could do two inputs and have them both on the screen at the same time instead of you manually making it it actually has ones that are already built for you which is kind of cool and you can save this to any type of input you want and say oh that's input number one and then say that this is input number two and you know all this other stuff like this so if i did a multi-view i mean yeah multiviews you can do it like this where it's already doing side by side so this could be real powerful that if you're doing scripture you can actually do something like this or if you had interviews and you had people talking that would be cool and as you see that's layered over top of whatever's behind it so really awesome that you can play around with the stuff so let me turn these back to none all right now triggers is another awesome thing that you can use and here's an example you can trigger it to do certain things on the state of the media that you're using so again i'm using this countdown timer so the very first thing that i would want to do is say on you have multiple things you can do on completion transition in out overlay in out audio all this other stuff on countdown completed um i'm going to say on completion when this is done i want to fade you have a whole bunch of activities you can do i'm going to say fade and then i want to go to the intensity pro and i'm gonna add that so if i close out of this and let's forward the sum so because of this trigger what's going to happen is when this video is completed it's automatically going to switch over to the intensity pro my capture card without me having to do anything that makes it really simple to where if you did have countdowns like this you got to be careful that your media team is paying attention but you can do this to where when the countdown is over no one has to press nothing it automatically is going to cut over that can be good or bad but that depends on your media ministries workflow me personally i wouldn't do this because sometimes we're not ready so i normally have a starting soon image behind that that you could do the exact same thing let's go back over here and there are many other triggers that you can have um inside of this i do some of these as well too to where when i'm bringing up a slide um it will it does an animation but i have it paused at the very end so it doesn't go away so it holds um there are a bunch of things that you can do now tally lights if you had some connected you could do some stuff here and even in this version i believe yeah actually no in 4k and higher you can actually control your ptz camera in vmix and have it go to a certain position if you wanted to so other cool features but again that's in the 4k and pro versions alright so really straightforward now overlays are something a little bit different overlays are almost kind of like your dsk um your downstream keyer or your upstream keyer if you're in the atem blackmagic type of world so for example i'm doing this right now and that's what these numbers are for again this is the hd version so not the basics so i have four overlays the regular one only gives you one so i'm only gonna function with one this overlay is going to actually overlay whatever you want over top what's live so if i hit the overlay number one on online giving you'll get this but i'm still behind this so if i click the overlay again see now it goes away so i'm still here this is just laying over top of it that is completely different compared to doing this where i pick the source because as you can see there's no activity going on there's no audio going on so the idea is if you're doing this and say you are doing online giving you have whoever's in your church is talking blah blah blah you want to bring this up boom you can do overlay and now you can still hear what everybody is talking about and you're still going to be able to see whatever graphic that is whether that's a lower third whether that happens to be i mean you can overlay music on here if you wanted to because i just did that and it's going to be in the background you can do whatever you want to with this now what you also could do if you don't have any way of kind of like a switcher that overlays text over top of this this is another way that you can capture your second screen or your ndi output from your platform of choice presentation software of choice and you can bring this in as the ndi source so let me actually do that let's close this on my regular computer i'm going to open up i'm going to do worship extreme now worship extreme does not have ndi built in but what i'm going to do is actually use the scan converter which is free and that will turn my output into a um screen that can be sent over the network all right so now i have on worship extreme i've brought up everything so i'm gonna come over here into here and that's the other thing i like about vmix it actually has the stuff built in and you don't need to add plugins so if we come here to add an input we can now go to ndi and it should pick up there it picks up our displays all right so now this is over the network is grabbing the second screen presentation from worship extreme so just like we did with overlays i could come in here and instead i could just hit overlay number one and down that's gonna bring my scripture or lyrics or whatever right over top of what i'm doing and you can see the audio is still going so it's capturing audio which is really cool so that makes it really simple to do overlays so if i come back over here and turn this off and see i'm still here so that's awesome um now you could also do the exact same thing if you wanted to do this in the lower third so let me go ahead and make a lower third here and i'm going to bring up scripture i'm just going to do all of chapter one and james all right so now i'm bringing this up and as you can see i have this set up in a lower third so now if i do overlay if i'm actually clicking on the right monitor see yeah i'm doing this that's not exactly what i wanted right this is where we're going to come back into our settings here and then we're going to do a color key now you can do this as a trigger as well too if you wanted to you can make multiple inputs if you have the option to do that and you can say i want to do a color key of black which is what i have mine set to and let's get a little bit nicer with this and i want to try and get a little bit more on here to get that shadow stuff out of here all right so something like that alright so we're nice here so now if we do an overlay there we go so in the text is already right there very very simple and it's all being done inside of vmix and it's not me hitting the dsk for the atem or anything like that i'm not really even using the atem right now really this is just a capture card bringing in one input which is just my camera that's the way i have to set up right now and i'm doing all of this inside of vmix which is really really powerful and you can turn that off with the overlay right on the wrong monitor boom and then you can close really really straightforward so in a typical service i could come in here and say um now if you're limited with only four inputs that's really not a problem you just need to do a little bit more work so say for example hey we're over here and we're starting our stream and say that we still have that trigger on right so once this is over boom it comes over to here so while this is happening the stream is going on you can come over here and now i want to let's change this to our ending and this would just need to be one of those things in your workflow that you would need to change all right and then here you want to make sure you turn off that trigger because you wouldn't want to switch back to your camera when this is over and then say oh wait a minute we got scripture and stuff like that going on you can bring this in as an input or as ndi whichever way you want it to and then hey we got our scripture we got our lyrics we got whatever that we want to do if you want to present full screen you will turn off the color key and make sure you do full so like if i came over here and did this and that's actually a hole don't want to do that and as you can see i have the color key so you're erasing that black which is not good so we will want to make sure we turn that off turn that off so this is just something that you have to just be mindful of while you're actually doing this and i don't know why my color key is still doing that i thought i had to turn it off oh there we go forgot about that all right so that makes it really straightforward and really cool that you could do and say you know you got your lyrics you got this you're doing your scripture you got all this other stuff and then up wait a minute we got online giving you have a still image and again if you're confined to those four items you would just have to do more work inside of this but that's not really that big of a deal if this is where you want to go to and then now because we changed that last one we can just come over here and now fade the service is over when we fade and then we close to our ending really really straightforward now one other thing that i did not go over is your streaming platform so if you come down here to your stream the little gear here you can pick multiple platforms and you can save a profile so like right now i have youtube and i have facebook right now and i can actually stream to both of them or even a third one if i wanted to which makes this really cool they do have some pre-made ones here like i normally use vimeo um or something like that or you can do a custom rtmp and it doesn't cost you anything to use this you just have to again make sure your system is capable of doing this yes you can link to all four platforms but what it's going to do is going to try and mimic the quality that you set but i mean you can change the quality for each one if you wanted to so say i'm going to vimeo for number one and i'm gonna use three megabit upload then i'm also gonna stream to youtube and you can say use the same quality which will again need another three megabits per second for that to stream or you can pick your own custom one and then you add another one as well too and let's say we're gonna go to uh twitch and then you could do that as well too and now you could start i didn't put a key in there on purpose but you could you know save and close and now you can come in here this arrow and well it's not showing them because i don't have a key in there but you could start all of them at the same time do one individually whatever which makes this really cool so that's what makes this is this really powerful now there's so much other stuff that i did not go over but this is going to take a long time to go through this video so be ready for version 2 or episode 2 or whatever you want to call of this video where we go on to more detail in vmix also in the comments please let me know what other stuff you would like me to go over because vmix is very very very powerful but i am limited to the hd version i do not i can't do any of the features of 4k and pro so please let me know which ones you would like me to go over i am already going to go over how to do titles and do comments and stuff like that that is coming later so you don't need to let me know about that one i already had enough people asking me about that and i am doing that one but let me know what direction you want me to go with this as well as be on the lookout i'm going to be making some more intro outros and stuff like that so that you can use as a bundle you can use on vmix as well as obs if you really wanted to but i'm gonna make some more one-off stuff because this is a little bit different than obs and that's about it if you like this type of content i appreciate a like consider subscribing and hit that bell that way you get notified when we come out with other videos to help modernize your media ministry and also please make sure you share this because i know there's tons of people who have asked me to do vmix and this is me fulfilling that promise and coming out with some more videos because y'all the community have asked for it i would like to thank the patrons for making this video possible their names
