How to kill mosquitos and insects in the lawn

what's going on guys welcome to another video we all know having a thick stand of turf thick grass which is exactly what we've got here look at this that's going to take care of our a lot of our issues in the lawn like disease and all that stuff is going to help you fight through it drought stress all that stuff but having a thick grass is also going to cause mosquitoes it's pretty much a jack Shack for skeeters so we're coming up on that time of year where the mosquitoes are starting to rage but not only mosquitoes ticks fleas ants all those things so if you like to spend your time working in the lawn or maybe you have kids who like to play on the swing set or in the lawn and you've got mosquitoes or bugs that are just causing issues we're gonna go over a few products so you can get from your big-box store or you can order online to help take care of the issues so you can get your lawn back and you can enjoy the outdoor so with that let's get to it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so we're talking about insect control we're mainly looking at ants mosquitoes ticks and fleas more importantly for me these two mosquitoes and ticks all right so as with everything anything we put on the lawn any sort of chemical any sort of product read the label I'm gonna give you information but I'm not gonna give you all the information and so these bottles and this one right here it comes with this peel off label you just literally you can peel off and it has all kinds of information in here in the labels so go check the label make sure you're doing everything right so the two main products we're gonna go over is this complete insect killer you can find this at your big-box store just walk into Lowe's I think Menards probably has a rural King whatever you have home depot and they should have this right here we're also gonna talk about this byfa nightie it's more of a prosumer product you order this online from do my own link is in the description if you're interested in this so the first one we're going to talk about is this byfa nightie and so bifenthrin is the main active ingredient in this and so the pros of bifenthrin it's going to give you a quick knockdown it should we start working within minutes to an hour and also the cost is what we're gonna go over so this bottle right here are 16 ounces it cost about twenty one dollars for 16 ounces and so the rate we're gonna use as a half an ounce per thousand square feet so remember we do all of our measurements in thousand square feet increments so the twenty one dollars is going to give us 32 servings we're gonna call it a serving and so that's gonna come out to about sixty-five cents per serving so to treat a 5,000 square foot lawn it'll cost three dollars and 25 cents and so with this this kills a lot of insects ants fleas ticks mosquitoes you can use it for termites sod web worm you can use it for so many things you just check the label I'm not gonna go over all of them but there are tons of insects on there most if you have an insect issue this will treat it except white grubs this does not treat grub worms so with this by fin IT we want to repeat application every 30 days and so you're gonna need two to three applications to get you through this summer and so for three applications that's gonna cost about ten dollars to do the entire season that's very good price to get you through the season okay so now I want to talk about this bio advance complete insect killer and so one thing I do want to point out with this one compared to this is this one does treat grubs however if you are treating for grubs which I am not using this for grub worms but if you are using this for grub worms you need to make sure that you get this watered in immediately at least a half an inch and so either get the hose out drag the sprinkler around or time it up so you're doing it right before a rain so this product will also kill a lot of the same insects that this one will not termites but ants fleas mosquitoes ticks chinch bugs a lot of good things so check the label make sure what you're looking for is on this in this so with this complete insect killer this bottle costs $10 at the big-box store and it covers 5000 square feet and so that's essentially $2 per thousand square feet so yeah if you have less than 5,000 you can use that $2 to see how much you need or if you have more you know you can do the math there but we're going off of 5000 square foot lawn and so with this though you need to repeat every 7 to 14 days and so we're gonna go off that 14 day mark repeating every 14 days and so to get three months coverage like we got up here for $10 it would actually cost you $60 to keep your lawn good for the summer for three months with this product and so there are pros and cons to each this one requires some mixing you have to have a sprayer this one no sprayer required you just have to hook this up to your hose and go alright I get my own tea also with this product right here you don't have to order this thing online I bought this from do my own which link in the description like I said if you want this but if you have a Menards that is local to you you can also you can go to Menards if you have a local Menards and they have a brain that's called compare and save and they have a product it's just bifenthrin it's the same exact percentage of active ingredient and that same exact size bottle everything's the exact same so you can go there and you can get that from Menards so if you can't decide which of these two products to use you know go with this one right here if you want the convenience factor and you just want to go to your big-box store and pick up something but if you don't mind mixing up chemicals and all that this is gonna be the most bang for your buck and you can get this one or you can get the one from Menards if you have them in ARDS they're gonna be the same thing the knockdown factor and the residual of only half turning to spray it every 30 days that's going to be the big benefit of this one so another thing to keep in mind here if you want to do that when they're most active and mosquitoes are gonna rage the most early morning or late evening and so that's when you want to spray [Music] so the only difference between using something like this and say fertilizing your lawn with your spreader is that instead of pushing you're just holding this and you're just waving this thing back and forth there's really no difference you want to get an even coverage over the whole lawn so you're gonna overlap your pass just a little bit and other than that just go get after it you know like they say spray-and-pray you know what's the worst that can happen with this you know you can over apply this stuff but it's not really gonna damage your lawn so you don't need to worry about it too much as long as you're continually walking on a new pass and you're just
