How to import 3D AutoCAD files into Inventor

hi my name is Albert and in this video I'll be showing you how to open up your AutoCAD files now this is a 3d object from AutoCAD if you just hit open I'll just say yes to this what's gonna happen is your inventors gonna start opening up this file I can see it loading here on the bottom left and as it opens up this file is gonna most likely open it up in the 2d environment because it recognizes that DWG file as a two dimensional file which it then ends up looking like this it's actually been added into the layout environment over here and in this case yeah it's kind of incorrect for what we're looking for we want that rule 3d data so now to correct that what we'll do here is we'll say open and I'll open up render a options I'll set this to import and then okay say yes to that and then it's gonna open up this little dialog here asking you how you'd like to open up this file I'm happy with this I'll say next have to wait for this environment here to cook up a bit it is a bit slow as it starts to translate that file we can even just check our performance here as it opens so just an overall slow process okay there we go now in this case yeah it's opened up the file here it is I can pan I can orbit I can do all sorts of things in this environment now it's gonna ask you which layers you'd like to import in this case y'all see I'm happy with all of them and whether you want to import the layout environment or if you just want to import the model space in this case here we just would like to import the model space I'll just hit next and then here it's got data options and here I'll just say 3d solids please check that on and there's nothing else I'd like to change here we can just hit finish and if you could map that data if you wanted to as well now in this case it's going to open up the DWG file as a drawing and it's also gonna open up your 3d model as an assembly as well so we just have to wait for all these parts to come in and then here it is so now it's actually imported that 3d file straight from AutoCAD so just to run you through those steps again simply open you find your AutoCAD file just make sure the file format here at the bottom is correct DWG file you select the file you'd like to open you hit options and then you say import and okay once you've done that you hit open and then here you can say yes and if you wanted to you'll say next and that will just then start importing your files thank you for watching
