hey everyone today i'm going to show you how to set up your own local dedicated project zomboid multiplayer server for the new build 41 multiplayer that was just released we'll just be setting up a basic vanilla unmodded server for this video although mods do work the first thing you're going to want to do is go to your steam library at the top hit the drop down box and select tools and games then scroll to your project zomboid and for both the project zomboid and the dedicated server right click go to properties betas and then make sure you're opted in to the build 41 multiplayer for both of these once that's done install them the next thing we're going to do is forward our ports so that people can connect to us i'm not going to spend too long talking about this because this process varies from person to person depending on what kind of firewall you have on your system who your isp is and what kind of router you have for me i have comcast so i have to sign in through xfinity to get to my port forwarding page so i will do that now i'm already signed in so i will show you guys the port forwarding page these are all the ports that need to be forwarded in order for people to connect to you you need to have eight seven six six udp you need to have one six two six one udp and then for each person that you want to be able to join your server you need to add one past this 16261 but tcp so for a 10 player server i have 16262-16272 okay once you have those we're going to launch project zomboid now what we're going to do is tweak our server settings so go to host server name server test is the default name that's fine go to manage settings you don't have anything here just create new settings server test is the default that's fine now this is where you're going to tweak all your sandbox settings for your server but since we're just doing regular unmodded vanilla we're just going to be focused on this top details here so name your server we'll just name it test server give it a description if you want make it public give it a password we'll do one two three and pause empty game time stop so no players are online that sounds pretty good so i'll just go with this hit save back now start [Music] and what this will do is it'll generate the configuration files if they don't already exist in the zomboid folder [Music] alright once you're in the game you can just quit the desktop okay now since we did that we go to our c drive users username and zomboid folder here server all this stuff is populated because we just started we just hosted that server but that was not a dedicated server so in the servertest.ini all those things we just changed so our test server set your you know everything that you just saw you can change here okay so as long as that's there that's good we need to navigate to our project zomboid steam folder so if you know where that is just go to your steam then steam apps common and then this project zomboid dedicated server now we don't want to start the dedicated server through steam because it'll error and it'll just reset anything that we've done here so we're going to do is we're going to edit this start server 64 mp dot file okay edit and then we're going to remove the no steam parameter and by default this batch file allocates 16 gigs of memory for your server but i'm only playing with a couple friends you know like four people so two gigs probably fine but you can tweak that as you see fit save that and now we will start the server just double click on this file and it'll do its thing as you can see it says server started steam is enabled listening on 16261 okay now we'll just go into project zomboid and we'll see if we can connect if we can connect then that's a good it's a good thing and then we'll just need to see if other people can connect go to join the internet and our server should be at the top somewhere here here's mine test server so we're just going to put a username test account whatever test test is fine then we're going to do one two three then the server password was one two three of course so then we save that when it goes into our favorites since you if you're the local host then under for this local ip put 127.0.0.1 which is your loopback address and you can save that again refresh join server if it doesn't work the first time like if we get a p2p connection failed then we might have to yeah okay so let's go to our server close that restart it [Music] see if it's up here [Music] there we go test server going server [Music] [Music] as you can see it's letting us join all right now i just need to see if someone else can connect all right as you can see my friend was able to join successfully he lives many many miles away from me so the server is working i hope this video was able to help you guys get your own server up and running uh have a good time
