I used to worry all the time that my chickens were not getting enough nutrition because I live in a subdivision and it's a small lot and then I would feel jealousy in my heart when I see other people pasture raising their chickens but look at this hmm oh my god good but it's supposed to be for our chickens let's learn how to do it when I was a little girl I wanted to save the world when that didn't happen I decided to create my own world where things changed for the better every single day welcome to chicken land eeeh [Music] hey guys welcome to chicken land eeeh I am a backyard chicken educator here in the Pacific Northwest but you can call me the president of chicken land eeeh I can't deny that the best-case scenario for chickens and for the people that eat their eggs is for the flock to be pasture raised it's been shown in studies that the eggs are just healthier and the chickens are healthier that makes sense because you know if I just like walked around ate salad all day I'd be healthier too but if you can't pasture raised your chickens offering them sprouted grains or seeds it's a great way to get some yummy nutrition into them that they otherwise would not have access to this is just a tablespoon of seeds and look at how much is it expands I've already given them some of this it was like coming out of the top of the jar so there's a few different ways of sprouting grains or seeds I'm gonna show you the one right way to do this if you don't do it this way then you're wrong I am just kidding he will never hear that nonsense come out of my mouth there's lots of different ways and if you end up with sprouted grains or seeds at the end of it then you are doing great there's the chicken landy away but it's not the only way so you find the way that works for you I like to do it in a jar because I have a small flock so that's what works for me so the first thing you want to do is get yourself a nice nifty jar like this one and some grain or seeds I just got these seeds from Amazon you're gonna need a good lid and also a mesh lid for rinsing now I'm going to put about two tablespoons of seeds in the jar remember they expand a lot and I'm going to fill the jar with about two to three times more water than seeds you just want to make sure that the water is covering the seeds completely now I'm going to close the jar and I'm going to let it sit for about six to twelve hours you can let it sit longer if the grain is bigger or like barley or wheat after it's been sitting for the right amount of time you want to rinse out your grain or seeds so you're gonna put your mesh lid on and just rinse it out [Music] now you want to set your seeds in a nice sunny spot I have a nifty stand like this but you don't need to stand like this you can just set it on its side and every day it's gonna grow you're gonna want to rinse it out twice a day once in the morning once in the evening and look at it grow [Music] until it gets like this takes about three to four days [Music] look at how much these chickens love it [Music] [Applause] [Music] when I'm doing this I'd like to think about all the things that I'm grateful for I know I don't have a big piece of land but what I have is pretty awesome my cold jealous heart has melted if you want to learn more about how you can keep your chickens healthy on a small lot I want you to click on this video right here it's all about how to keep away predators disease rats and parasites and as always it's a hundred percent friendly backyard chicken education and entertainment you're gonna love it [Music]
