let's begin moving the foot to see how he feels about [Music] it in this video I would like to show you how to address a dog that has developed resource guarding or protective Behavior or Obsession about toys or food so how do a dog develop this behavior when time management doesn't have clear rules boundaries and limitations if a dog has easy access to the object and there no discipline or structure to get it when a dog becomes Bor and eventually end up stealing the object because he doesn't have healthy habits so why is it important for us to teach our dogs not to develop this behavior for safety purposes time purposes and prevention purposes so let's elaborate on safety if a kid comes to the dog while the dog has the object that's a safety problem if a person passes by what the dog is having that object that's a safety problem if another dog once is curious about what the dog have that's another safety issue let's talk about time let's say the dog grabbed the object and you have to go to work or you are at the dog park or you are at the beach or you are in somebody else's home and you have to go because your time is up and my favor prevention that way time and safety never get sabotaged things we need a leash so that dog doesn't go away when they got the object so that way we cut the limits good energy the object and patience all right so I provide the object in this case is a bone so it triggers you know a very Primal Behavior which is that's why I was talking about safety that's why I was talking about time that's why I was talking about prevention because once you bring that type of object which is a bone it brings the Primal side of every dog right so when you walk into a dog that is eating that's what they tell you never come close when a dog is eating but I think it's best to teach a dog that as soon as we approach they have to learn to re to move thems away from whatever object they have food toys a stick or a pebble right because many times they overprotect it they belong it belongs to them and if we continue and we don't see the warnings and then they have the right to strike and that's what we're going to call we've been bitten by the dog come and film him so you can see the uh you know how over the top he goes he goes over [Music] them it's a lot of excitement happening is very Primal his mouth is on the object he's eating it is you know intaking it okay the leash is there for a reason so that way it gives you an easy access to the body so you're moving gentle you don't you're not don't move towards the object yet until you are safe until you feel that you have some kind of protective mechanism that way he knows that you're not going after the object yet but you are having an object to help you protect in case they they launch at you cuz that's there's they have the rights to do that that's why it's it's for safety purposes we have to teach our dog not to do resource guarding not to be protected of it not to steal things from us because they become very territorial dominant about it they can practice aggression even though this is the this is their right see you can see right here that when they see another dog you can see Alfie right here that when they see a dog with an object in his mouth with that intensity they automatically give it space it's only we humans that we want to take the object away from them they whenever that's not their intention they go find themselves another one let's begin moving the foot to see how he feels about it there you go you saw it sh sh you wait until he stops looking at the object allowing allow them to sh hey they can't touch them anymore once you ask them to not touch they can't go back and touch it because they become very powerful then slowly you move them away from the object that way when you pick up you have the distance for safety and he can go to a trust respect Behavior come surrender sh that was the first time just be calm respectful slowly and you can back away once you start because you're you are bringing a primal Behavior so that's why it's very important to practice this with puppies you can practice that with puppies that way you don't have to worry about be be be afraid of the size of the dog be safe be proud and be consistent [Music] guys I hope you enjoyed the video make sure you like subscribe and comment and join me on my mission of better humans better planet
