hey everybody David Jordan thanks for watching today we're going to clean the Glock model 23 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol to clean our pistol we're going to be using breakf free cop cleaner lubricant and protective allinone this way we don't have to use a separate solvent and a separate lubricant and it works really well on my pistol I'm also going to use just a small stack of uh uh patches you you can buy those at any gun store you can cut them out of a T-shirt if you'd like and a small handful of Q-tips inside the Glock case is a u a cleaning rod and I I find it's very useful it also comes with a nylon board brush and that's what I'm going to be using instead of using uh external you know other kind of brushes I'm just going to use this so uh first thing we need to do is take our pistol we going take our magazine out we're going to run this slide eject the live round that's in there uh we're going to check our uh inspect our chamber both visually and manually to make sure that there is no live rounds in there then we're going to uh pull the slide F to the rear and Let It Go Point your weapon in a safe position and squeeze the trigger you'll hear a click reach back pull the slide back about a tenth of an inch you will fill it release pull the slide locks down on both sides pull the slide forward it should come straight off of the receiver so we're going to take our receiver and set it down we will pull the recoil spring assembly uh pinch it down towards you lift it out and set it aside we will reach in and grab the barrel and lift it straight out you might have to kind of finesse it a little bit we'll set it out and the slide now let's talk about the the barrel for the barrel we'll take a little bit of the cop and we'll just kind of slather that around there you'll get some carbon deposits right around there so I try to uh put a little bit extra around there let that start working its magic doesn't have to be anything fancy just get it on there uh get it moist back here uh in the feed ramp and all that stuff may want to grab a little bit more there all right I'm also going to take and uh I use the same patch some people might be different uh the the first run through there I'm going to take that CH patch and put it on there put a little uh little CLP on there it from the chamber in all the way through and really all I'm doing here is just uh getting that CLP inside the barrel if you can uh barely make it out there so we're going to get that down in there and then I'm going to take the boore brush and put it on and while we're letting the inside of the barrel uh let the CP do its magic I'm going to clean the outside uh this is where a lot of people will grab another brush I found it's just as easy to use the brush uh use the board brush this way uh now I wouldn't use a steel wire brush like this so uh but this is a nylon brush uh another thing is if you maintain your weapon uh pretty well on a regular basis uh shouldn't require a lot of scrubbing so we're I'm going to push it through and back through the uh the proper way to do it uh is a little different than what I do uh I just shove it in there and and bring it back all the way through and then back uh and I just do that a couple of times I'm going to use a another patch you could also use just a just another rag if you wanted to I'm going to make sure that that is clean to my satisfaction there if there is a dull matte black finish on there uh then that's the carbon deposits and uh if that occurs if if you hadn't got it all take a little more uh solvent or C and put it back on there take that brush and get back after it again uh until it's clean nothing nothing major there I'm going to take run that patch well there we go take that patch run it back through the barrel and you see we're still taking off junk so I will put that aside and I want to make sure that I get as much of that crud out of there as possible now I don't have to you know I don't think it has to be perfect I really don't uh I've been shooting for quite a while and uh I don't think it makes hardly any difference uh you got to consider after you fire the first round it's going to get uh it's going to be uh get dirty anyway so uh it is important that you maintain your weapon so that it will protect you uh and be there when you when you uh when you need it uh but it doesn't have to be spit shine so uh it does have some of the the lubricant on there so I'm just going to kind of make sure that that lubricant is everywhere that I want it to be and then I'm going to uh call that done next thing I'm going to do is work on the slide one thing to keep in mind with the slide is that where the firing pin chamber is here uh that's an open cavity um so what I don't want to do what I want to do is make sure that the slide is inverted so that the firing pin channel is facing down so that when I'm using solvents and things like that I don't get any unnecessary liquids or Oils or anything inside the firing pin Channel so I'm going to take a little cop just like that uh if you can see uh in the light where you've got the matte black finish there uh see how it goes from kind of a shiny uh to a dull flat uh that's your carbon uh your real carbon buildup there uh so um I'm going to get that going to saturate that in there just get it real good inside the slide around where the barrel comes out slide rail slots on the side and I will just saturate that with cop and I'm going to take my little brush brush and get after it again uh you know there's all kind of brushes you can buy there's different brushes you can use uh what I wanted to show you today was that you don't have to buy anything uh extra uh I'm just turn it sideways there and get inside those rail slots you may find yourself with very you know uh on in your Range Bag you should have A Min at least a minimum uh cleaning kit a minimized cleaning kit um in case you know you you you you know you might have to clean your weapon while you're at training or whatever so um this is about as minimal as it gets I think so I want to kind of go around and get all the places where I see that matte black finish because I know that's where the carbon's building up going take that same brush I'm I'm going to get around the extractor claw which is that little thing that's hooked like that going get in there make sure it's cleaned out also while I've got it part I'm going to take my the tip of my rod and pull back on that re uh extractor claw and just make sure that it functions and it does it's got a little spring back there so it should Rock back and forth and this one does your firing pin safety is right here uh you can uh take the bottom of your B brush or something like that kind of push down on it it's on the spring as well uh that's functioning pretty well also uh if you push forward on the tank of the firing pan firing pin this thing here uh you will not see the firing pin you should not see the firing pin come through the firing pin slot but if I push down on the firing pin safety here then I should be able to slide the firing pin all the way out like that and that's uh fully extended uh so that lets me know that the firing pin safety is working that the spring is working uh and uh I can inspect the tip of my firing pin and make sure that it is still in good condition and this one is so after I've scrubbed it I'll take a patch and start cleaning up the unnecessary uh dirt and debris that's inside the slide for those little hard to reach areas I'm going to grab for my Q-tips and get in there you can spend as much or as little well you can spend as much time as you want here um I don't I don't spend too much uh used to years ago I would spend you know an hour cleaning a pistol and that's just not necessary so I'm going to take it and get inside those rail slots I go through a lot of these Q-tips uh I like them because they're cheap uh you can buy a box of them for a little or nothing uh and then um so they're inexpensive and you can get in all those little hard to reach places and when it gets filthy just flip it over and use the other side I'm looking for uh that flat black the carbon uh build up I'm not seeing any so I'm pretty good with that I'm gonna take another patch and kind of wipe down the outside like I've done the inside I don't want it to be wet um but with the CLP there is lubricant in it so I am going to uh you know I'm not going to try to wipe it all off cuz that would be uh a moot point at this point all this stuff up here is basic basically cosmetic stuff I'm just you know it's just part of the cleaning process to make it look and operate well all right that still got a little bit little bit much for me but you could continue to wipe it down like that you're just checking and if you don't you know if it looks shiny uh basically you're good to go if you don't see any uh uh any carbon build up keep right on going with recoil spring assembly I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it uh essentially I will just kind of use the uh the patch and just kind of just kind of twirl The Recoil spring assembly inside the patch just to kind of clean it off a little bit uh not a whole lot coming off of it there just kind of testing it there make sure it's uh good and it is so we will set it aside the receiver I will take some of the CLP and start working it down in there you don't have to saturate everything uh I just kind of wipe down the the parts that look dirty that's really about uh all you really need to do remember when you've got it apart don't uh don't pull the trigger or anything like that the manufacturer just doesn't recommend that you could uh damage the weapon and um things like that avoid the warranty you don't want to do that so they they say don't do that so I don't do that [Music] now some of the little finer spots that are hard to get to I'm going to put a little CLP on the Q-tip itself and then I'm going to get down in there and kind of visually to my satisfaction I want to make sure I clean these rail slots good uh this is what the slide uh slides on kind of like a railroad track track for a train and so I want to make sure that these are clean and uh there's no debris cuz I have to I want my slide to actuate I do not want to put any lubricant inside the firing pin chamber of the slide you can see that there and I don't want to put any kind of lubricant inside the magazine well which is the where the magazine seats inside the handle of the weapon might seem like a good idea at first because it would be slippery but then it begins to um collect dirt and debris and carbon and things like that next thing you know it's gummy and your magazines don't eject like they're supposed to and they actually just when you over lubricate a weapon it uh you attract unnecessary dirt and debris uh and you know even though it may function for a while uh or it may function you know for a longer period of time you're just kind of risking it and when it comes down to it I would rather be safe um and careful than careless so the manufacturer says use very little lubricant so that's what I do when it gets down to this part I'm satisfied with it if there is um let's see if you can see it there there's some carbon build up there I think you can see that and so I I don't worry too much about that uh because my pistol is a tool and I don't you know I'm try to polish it but but so that you can see what I would do with that if I need to I just put a little solvent or cop there I'm G take that brush and get after it with that and I'll wipe it off that that looks good to me so in its fied strip position there is all uh four components cleaned and uh one one more thing I want to do to lubricate is I'm literally going to put about a drop that's a little more than a drop put about a drop of oil uh on my uh fingers and I'm going to go over the slide I'm sorry the barrel one more time I don't want it to be dripping with oil with that same drop oil I had on my finger I'm going to put some on the slide rails literally one drop hoil now right back here I am going to take and put a drop of oil I don't know if you're able to see that or not right back here I've seen a a one Glock pistol sees up because uh that didn't have oil uh back in there where it was supposed to if I can uh show you where that is there so it's like literally right down in there right down in there just where you want your oil and then I'll just kind of work it a little bit that's it now I'm going to take my Barrel drop it in put my recoiler spring assembly in make sure I get it right the big end is going to go toward the front I'm going to stick it in that hole there and I'm going to depress it with my finger and put it in the bottom lug the barrel lug down there and that se properly I'm going to take my receiver and on these rail uh these rails I'm going to find the rail slots at the back of the slide and fit feed them into onto the rails follow that um SL the the let the slide follow the rails all the way to the back make sure that the slide gets on the rails in the back pull the the slide all the way to the rear and let it go and um then we're going to find ourselves a safe Direction like we did earlier ease the trigger to the rear if you mess this part up the slide's going to uh slide right off the end uh this one looks pretty good and I'm happy that uh this weapon is uh clean and lubricated well that's it last thing we want to do is make sure our weapon is loaded and ready to go I hope this helps thanks for watching I'll see you again next [Music] time
