[Music] thank you all right everybody here we are we are logging in Arizona turns out they have trees in Arizona I got Gordy here with West Coast saw it's actually two companies that there's Joe Dirt Excavating they named it before the movie came out and they also own a Mill called Pine line Pine line yeah so it's a bunch of pint we're up here in Flagstaff Arizona anyway so he emailed me he's like you know if you ever want to come check out how we log trees in Arizona come on down and I was shocked I was like I had no idea that there were any trees here I thought it was all flat desert we drove here yesterday from Phoenix Arizona's really beautiful lots of colors the desert was really awesome and then we get here and it's just Paul yeah a whole lot of trees but it's pretty much all pine here this is Flagstaff we're at about 7 000 feet elevation so we're just headed to the logging site right now I'm not quite sure what's in store for today but it'll be interesting to see how they log trees in Arizona all right we're headed up the Logging Road now we just ditched the rental car going up in the crummies here so I'm riding up here with Tony Gordy's with Kevin and uh yeah we're just going to the logging site now all right well here we are we're out in the woods here with Gordy we're going to be hand cutting these they actually do most this work with machine but Gordy and I want to run our saws and stuff so we're gonna we're gonna start by hand and kind of see how it goes but I'll show you what we're doing here we just saw the job site I'll show you the machines later they got a lot of Machinery up there it's pretty cool show you the brush piles and stuff too but anyways they're working on this area it's a forest ending project if it's got a ribbon it goes we're gonna follow all the trees that way and then we've got a sort of blast a trail through the woods so that they can get the equipment into this little patch here you know selective thinning this is Forest management stuff you know there's they're selectively thinning so that it's not at such a big risk for fires stuff like that they're just they're cleaning up the woods for the U.S forest Service out here Tony and Kevin are doing some stuff with the machines and getting stuff prepared me and Gordy are just going to start dropping these Pines should be a hoot and Gordy running a Husqvarna today just like me so I brought my 592 it's a 36 inch bar I should have brought a shorter bar Gordy brought a 32 inch bar what is that 572. have you ran that saw before I haven't this is just bone stock and I brought it out here to to run some of our new prototype stuff I got a set of dogs built for the captive bar nut cover and I was messing around just building a prototype exhaust port on top I don't usually show people my stuff before it's done but this is a prototype air filter because I've never ran it we're just bringing it out here and seeing what it can do how it works out but it takes up all underneath it's awesome that it fits under the hood yeah foam it's got a couple revisions to make where it's rubbing but that's the very first one we made these are going to be available hopefully it works out pretty good hey so we're over 7 000 feet elevation you want to explain the whole compression thing real quick on the elevation Jacob and I we we live on the coast so it's sea level basic rule of thumb is every thousand foot that you go up you lose three percent horsepower which is compression so if you are at 7 000 feet you know seven times three is twenty one so you lost 20 horsepower in the saw at seven thousand feet that would mean you would need 20 percent less fuel if you had a manual carburetor turn down you know your jets probably at least a quarter of a turn or eighth of a turn or something like that the auto tune I just let it idle and these things find themselves really nice so yeah it's great for changing elevations so yeah my 92 CC saw is more like a I don't know 70 something CC saw up here so they're gonna have a little bit less power up at this elevation but it's Pine nice and soft first Pine in Arizona [Applause] [Music] [Music] um foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] they'll grab him with the machine so we don't really have to Buck them or lemon or nothing no buck no limb yeah well I like it foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] you can really hear the saws I just don't like that higher elevation I'm breathing kind of hard yeah you can really tell the difference yeah I'm always low on my back Cuts I don't know what the deal with that is this one's leaning back really hard but we want to drop them this way because we're going to be skidding them out that way so I'm gonna try the back cut first see if we can get this thing to go the right way foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh my God [Applause] and winded it's hard to breathe it is harder to breathe up here for sure [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] no no no no all right [Music] [Music] all right [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] a little windy too yeah feel that breeze yeah I'm a shocked how hard it is to breathe oh nice to enjoyed yeah like my body is fine but my lungs are just working hard to get used to it it's weird [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Laughter] [Music] [Music] look at this gonna try that no I'm just gonna move it oh it's not gonna hurt her if you smash it it's just a Husqvarna what about your phone oh they make those every day too you can buy those with money and watch you set it there and then the tree will come backwards oh [Music] [Music] man yeah that wind really did yeah that wind set it back pretty hard you got her well I think that might be a little enough hand cutting for now I want to go see these machines they do most of it machine they do some by hand me and Gordy wanted to run our saws so we've been cutting by hand for a little while and I can see those things working all right let's see what's going on over here [Music] all right it's rad cut off the bus foreign service comes in and burns the brush piles [Music] we're starting them here the longer logs they're the shorter logs all one species Black Pine there's yellow pine in here but they don't not harvesting it and they cut the tops off at five inches because the small Sports they make are four by fours but most of these will be what they say six by twelves that that's what he said yeah those ones will become six by twelves the tops and then the butts are I don't know they're a little bigger it's awesome that's this guy's fast is that Kevin or Tony in there I think that's Tony it must be on the order oh there you go imagine trying to compete with that thing trying to limb yeah what is this thing Tony stroke dilemma stroke d-limmer man this thing's is awesome yeah that's right yeah this will do all your measurements okay oh wow throttled it and then get the feel for a little scene unless I'm sitting in it's kind of weird [Music] okay [Music] your left foot top or bottom there you go yep another swing come out Jake get another bite and pull it up against that open your back one pull it up against them don't quality you don't have to be perfect yeah yeah [Music] wrong pile [Laughter] you just gotta make sure not to swing that tail into the trees huh make sure you got a lot of room that tail will get you in trouble [Music] [Music] [Music] come on [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you start Monday is that not bad that's really good for the first time a lot of buttons in there man a lot of crap with two grapples inside it's a little easier to drop them because he's got the pile on the way now but he'll drop them like a perfect angle so you don't have to really kind of mess around yeah the right way the first time I think it's pretty damn accurate if you measure them it's pretty right it's crazy yeah it's like within a half inch foreign let me drive the skitter so I'm just hauling the logs to the d-limmer now so I've never ran one of these things before but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it pretty cool so it's interesting notice Arizona is really really rugged but Terry where we're logging it's way flatter than Washington and the biggest difference between these Woods Too is in Washington we have so much underbrush you can't see far at all here you can see really far in the woods there's really no underbrush at all there's nothing under these pine trees kind of weird if I grab all these [Music] grab like four trees here see if this works oh yeah got him so anyways let's turn this around so a lot less underbrush here and the ground's a lot Rock here we have a lot more topsoil where we live a lot of moss slippery slippery stuff even when it's dry it's slippery you're stepping on Vine Maples and Moss and salal all kinds of stuff so they don't wear cork boots out here because it's very Rocky Clarks will just get destroyed and it's flat and you can walk you have room to walk you know like in Washington if you fall a tree the best path is gonna that to walk is probably along the tree so the corks are really nice for you know just walking around they're really secure but here they really don't do much because you can walk next to the tree you don't need to stand on top of the tree you know a lot of times we're staying on top of the trees we're cutting the Bucking we're walking along the logs here you don't do that because you can walk all around the tree you know so it's just interesting everywhere is a little bit different you know those tires maybe I call them to let me run this machine yeah a lot of great machine access here really nice [Music] all right let's drop these trees off okay like four trees here [Music] starting to get the hang of this thing right there [Music] awesome all right well this thing's been fun I think it's about time to let the pros run the machines now thank you foreign [Music] foreign foreign [Music] we're about to wrap this job up but you can see all these brush piles that they got going on the forest service comes and burns these I mean I don't know if you can really tell in the video but it's probably probably 20 feet tall just a pile of tops and branches if you can't really make anything out of it it's too skinny and then they also leave a bunch of uh these are the butts over here they do save a lot of it to try to get as much use as they can out of the trees you know so these butts over here they've got a lot of flare a lot of taper not very good for lumber so they cut the butts off and they they pile them up here and then folks can just drive in here and get firewood I don't think they got to pay nothing or anything but uh yeah they come in here they get firewood and then that all becomes big burn piles and the rest of the trees as you saw those they come Lumber so they own a mill too so it's Pine line is the name of the mill and Joe Dirt Excavating is the name of the company that has all the machines and everything so tomorrow we're gonna come back we're gonna log some more and then we're gonna take the lumber to the mill and Mill it up so we'll show the whole process of getting the trees on the ground taking them to the mill show the whole thing so that'll be in the next video but I'll just wrap this one up thank you for watching please like And subscribe if you find my videos helpful I just ask if you uh if you ever need any arborist equipment check out my store sappysupplies.com and make sure you check out my buddy Gordy's website to West Coast saw.com we're gonna get going I'm gonna go out and enjoy this Arizona sunshine
