what's going on y'all welcome to the video today we're gonna talk about how i set up this new 2020 m1 macbook pro for development [Music] okay so the first thing you have to make sure about your software is the latest one and it's up to date if you made sure about this you're ready to cope with the basic settings on your system preferences start with the display to have a more higher resolution to get more things seen on the screen and now we're going to go over some other basic settings let's just open the dock settings and let's get rid of the dock and this hugest icons on it because it's pretty crazy to cope with those okay for the next steps we just take cover of those new bixers control center features just the basics and you should take care about those accessibility shortcuts because that's going to be your main source point when working with accessibility and web development and of course those battery percentage to see these pretty crazy new batteries let's switch in do not disturb mode because you do not want nobody to disturb you when you're writing those word changing lines of codes [Music] but don't forget you should always enable double calling because that's gonna be just the money ring then set up internet accounts this way you'll be always be sure that you will get your emails and calendar invites and notes available on every one of your devices now let's go to security settings first enable to install applications from other sources then you should take care about switching of file world and firewall because that will save your ass when you're browsing some pretty shady things after this just check out those little privacy things and you're good to go set up your your control strip put the dump city away now take a look at your keyboard and inputs in this text screen you'll be able to switch off auto correction and other things that didn't work as great as they should and don't forget to switch off selecting input sources with control space because that's gonna mess with your vs code now switch into tapping to click on your touch bar then go to the app store and install any applications that you're frequently using for development and project management purposes i recommend you to start with xcode then go where slack bus and any other things let's check this out [Music] now open safari and let's download all browsers that you will need for testing out your awesome applications start with chrome because chrome has a bigger version of their application for the apple silicon chips the thing why edge is great for us because it's going to install rosetta 2 to your computer and that's what we need to use intel applications and homebrew and docker and other things that we will frequently use during development [Music] let's install vs code we use code has an experimental build for these apple silicon chips don't forget to check insider bills then arm 64. when it's downloaded you just drop this to your applications and the first in your applications just open it and don't forget to install the path decode but with this insider build you won't just use the code command in your path you will use code dash exploration command now let's enter the terminal first we should enable terminal and finder to show every hidden files not just the basic ones then we should install homebrew with the special arch x 86 64 command now i'm going to install xcode selected xcode command command-line tools to be able to run the blue and other command line commands and after this when homebrew is installed we should start installing bluesk i thought i started with item 2. item 2 is an alternative terminal which i'm using because it's so much better to use than the default one after i reinstalled item 2 i've download some pretty sick themes to it then add umai zsh that's a zsh extension for the basic mac os zsh and we can modify this like we're adding auto suggestions we're adding syntax highlighting we're adding some pretty crazy things which are gonna make you a hackerman a productivity master of your terminal and of your new mac computer well i forgot to record that but you should definitely be able to install some pretty basic applications that you will be using or frameworks from homebrew i'm thinking about n for node version management that's my personal best one and all of this you'll be able to use but only with these arch x 64 86 flag before the brew command after the installation of this we should configure our terminal to use these things so let's head over to my gis and copy my free zshrc after you've pasted it you have to do some pretty small modifications of it it's your zsh team we'll be on this in a minute and i've already added some pretty crazy alliances that you always use and it's gonna be much easier from now on so let's open item and go through the basic setup process of oh my csh [Music] now set up some colors and some key bindings which will help you along your way so let's install some downloaded color palette or choose some default one i've used new moon theme i really like that but i like solarize 2 dark i'm you i've used that for many years and don't forget to set your key bindings to natural text editing because that's where you'll be able to jump between words with your option and comment keys [Music] and now the time has come to test what we did in the last 10 minutes install the latest node with n and to do it if you run into this access issue then just edit the no node libraries rights [Music] so after you've installed node try to install something globally like yarn or create next app then create the next application and try to run it [Music] locally [Music] well thank you guys for watching this video i hope this helped you to learn how to set up a new mac from installation to development and i see you in the next video a few days later
