How EVERY Pokémon Generation Has Hinted at Future Games

the one thing about pokemon is that no matter what new game or generation has just released there's always something new on the horizon and the thing about pokemon games is that they like to hint towards what's coming next junichi masuda and the rest of the team at game freak are pretty playful when it comes to hinting at their next project so much so in fact that you can more or less find hints to future games in every single pokemon generation and it just so happens that that is exactly what we're talking about in today's video i am going to show you guys how every pokemon generation has hinted at future games in one way or another so without any further ado let's just get right into it so we of course are going to start with generation one and due to the fact that it is the first generation literally the beginning of the series and back when game freak didn't even know how these games were gonna do let alone that it would turn into an entire series you can imagine that hints towards what's coming next aren't quite as prevalent as they might be in later generations which is why i'm gonna have to get a little creative but nevertheless there is a pretty good hint at what's to come in the pokemon anime and that of course would be from the infamous and beloved very first episode of pokemon where we get to see a glimpse at ho-oh in the very first episode well before generation 2 would even come around i do have to say though that this is kind of an interesting situation because while in the west this was definitely a hint at what was going to come in generation 2 because we had heard nothing about it at that time for people in japan they were a little more familiar with ho-oh when they first saw it in the anime and that's because the first episode of the anime debuted in japan in 1997 and at this point in japan ho oh had already officially been shown off and it had already been confirmed that new pokemon games after red and blue were on the way this was announced in the august 1996 issue of corocoro where ho-oh was formally revealed and it was announced that pocket monsters 2 was going to be coming which of course eventually ended up as pokemon gold and silver so while this wasn't really a hint at a future generation for japan because they kind of already knew about it for the rest of the world that was kind of blind to all this especially in the pre-internet age this was an excellent piece of foreshadowing at what was to come by the time generation 2 did come around though they were already foreshadowing what was to come in the next generation for the hoenn games themselves if we look at the generation following gen 2 which features pokemon ruby and sapphire there is a town in these games that is exactly as corsola's pokedex entry describes from the gen 2 titles and that would be pacifidlog town pacific log town is a town that sits on top of the sea or more specifically as it's stated in pokemon ruby and sapphire on top of a corsola colony just like corsola's pokedex entry describes in pokemon silver given the fact that this dex entry also mentions a south sea nation and we do know that hohen resides south of johto this is pretty much a direct connection to the hoenn region made in generation 2. granted we don't exactly know if this was a purposeful hint that was specifically put in the game as a hint by the developers or if it simply inspired pacific log town after the fact but either way it is a definite piece of connection to generation 3 in generation 2 which is pretty cool and speaking of generation 3 when it comes to its own hints at its own following generation which of course would be generation 4 they're not quite as clear as some of the others we have and are going to talk about but there are still some distinct connections i actually have two hints to talk about in fact the first of which i'm going to have to take a page out of my friend loxton's book because he recently made a video about a theory he has concerning the mythical pokemon of every generation and how they seem to hint at future generations that come after they were introduced and one of the biggest pieces of evidence in favor of this idea is the mythical pokemon of generation 3 dioxis and jirachi these two are pokemon that distinctly come from space and as we know space is a huge theme in generation four so this could be possibly alluding at what was to come in the following generation if this theory is to be believed along with deoxys and jirachi you also have the moss deep space center as well which once again goes along with the space theme and even though it's based on an actual space center in the kyushu region where hoenn is based it is still kind of a coincidental inclusion considering the heavy theming around space in the very next generation meanwhile though another hint that is definitely absolutely an intentional hint by the developers comes in the remakes of this generation fire red and leaf green in the post game within the sevi islands there is a team rocket scientist known as gideon that you get into some battles and into some conversation with and in one of those conversations that you have with gideon he says this what you again you you're not giovanni's kid are you no that can't be right giovanni's kid has red hair this is an obvious allusion to silver the rival character from pokemon gold and silver however it wasn't revealed that he was giovanni's son until heart gold and soul silver in generation 4. that fact was not talked about at all in the original johto games so the fact that it was alluded to in generation 3 obviously shows that it was a hint at what was to come in the johto remakes that were going to come out in the next generation and when it comes to that next generation by the time that pokemon diamond pearl and platinum were up and swinging obviously people were wondering what was going to come next for the 5th generation and game freak could have possibly put a hint at what that was going to be in pokemon platinum specifically in pokemon platinum you are able to gain access to a villa that lies within the resort area of the battle zone in the post game and occasionally various characters in the game will come to visit you here one of those characters is cynthia and if you talk to her while she's visiting you in your newly acquired villa she will talk about her own home and she'll state that even the region where her home is located is a secret now this is obviously a weird utterance to make and given that apparently as of gen 4 the region where cynthia lived was a secret it obviously implies that it's one that we haven't been to before so it's a huge coincidence that in generation five we also meet cynthia in the univer region and she's staying in a similar type of vacation home in undaula town she does mention however in pokemon black and white that this house she is staying in is not her own it's just one of her friends that is allowing her to stay there but given the huge coincidence between this moment in black and white and the villa moment in pokemon platinum it could be the case that in pokemon platinum they were trying to hint at cynthia's role in the upcoming games with you eventually running into her in a very similar type of location it's also possible that this is a hint considering this moment comes specifically from pokemon platinum which released in the later part of generation four and the later parts of any given generation is when the hints to future generations typically pop up and speaking of hints to future games popping up at later points in the current generation this also happened in generation 5 hinting towards generation 6. in pokemon black and white 2 we are introduced to chorus and chorus's whole deal is that he is a scientist that is studying how to bring out the hidden potential in pokemon and in the games after meeting him for the first time he will say quote oh excuse me i am a scientist my name is chorus the theme of my research is bringing out the power of pokemon bringing out the power of pokemon is it possible to bring out their maximum power through the bond they share with their trainers or is there some other different method bringing out the power of pokemon through the bond they share with their trainers is an exact description of mega evolution which of course came out in generation 6 right after pokemon black 2 and white 2 released in fact gen 6 was revealed not long after these games came out so it is most assuredly the case that this is a tease at what was to come that was intentionally put into the games by the developers and right around this time in generation 6 is when game freak got really really into hinting at their future games because they did it all throughout generation 6 with the upcoming generation that of course would feature pokemon sun and moon this of course is highlighted by the strange souvenir which was the talk of the town back in the day it had everyone buzzing and the interesting thing about this is that this was in the game right from the get-go meaning that generation 7 was being hinted at at the very beginning of generation 6 before it had even been out for any amount of time if you need a recap the strange souvenir is an item that you can get from a hiker in a hotel within the kalos region and it's basically a souvenir and its description states that it's from a region far from kalos and it depicts a pokemon that is venerated as a protector and a guardian in that region well knowing what we know now this of course is in reference to the alola region and the pokemon that this souvenir is protecting is one of the island guardians the hints to pokemon sun and moon don't stop there though because once you get to anastar city they really ramp up if you go look at the anistar city sun dial you will see some islands off in the distance in the water but if you look at the kalos map there are no islands anywhere near this area and considering that alola is an island region it seems like this was a hint at sun and moon that was hidden in plain sight and this is especially the case when you consider that it's within the view of the sun dial and when you talk to a certain npc in anastar city she will mention to you that there are also moon dials that exist too pretty much being as obvious as you could possibly be that this is a hint even though we didn't know it at the time and this same kind of hinting that generation 6 did for generation 7 generation 7 also did for generation 8. i've talked about these before but in ultra sun and ultra moon gigantimex toxtricity is literally included in the game via a poster that can be found in game freak's offices you wouldn't have been able to tell what this was at the time but knowing what we know now it's very clear that this is gigantomax toxicity and game freak were once again hinting at the next generation of pokemon in plain sight there are also some other hints to generation 8 within these games as well as there is a tourist that talks about power spots and her pokemon getting powered up which is a direct mechanic in pokemon sword and shield and there's another npc who talks about rotom inhabiting all these different devices and speculates if it might inhabit a pc eventually which of course does happen in sword and shield showing that this is yet another hint at what was to come and now we are on to generation 8 and obviously given that generation 9 is not out yet it's impossible to say definitively if there are actually any hints to the next generation of pokemon in the generation 8 titles however there are some hints to the sinnoh games that have come out later in the generation within pokemon sword and shield specifically things like the pixie plate being the only arceus plate that you can find in pokemon sword and shield because it was the only type of plate that did not exist in the original sinnoh games this hasn't really amounted to anything yet as it relates to brilliant diamond shining pearl and legends arceus but it's an obvious connection between the two that i think we can construe as a hint and the other obvious sign in these games that diamond and pearl remakes were definitely coming is that in the crown tundra expansion for the games literally all of the fossil pokemon were made obtainable and even catchable in the wild except for the sino-fossils which was an obvious sign that they were saving them for the diamond and pearl remakes and legends arceus when it does come to those potential generation 9 hints though there are some that we can still talk about even if we don't know definitively if they are hints in pokemon sword and shield specifically concerning the pokemon copper raja it talks about in one of its pokedex entries how it came over from another unknown region long ago considering this pokemon is based on an indian elephant people have speculated that this could possibly be a hint at an indian pokemon region coming in the future however there are also possible hints to an italian region coming in the future and pokemon brilliant diamond and shining pearl there is a mysteriously detailed painting that can be found all throughout the center region in the diamond and pearl remakes that was not in the original games and also seems to resemble various locations in real life italy and the thing that really heats this up is that you can actually in the games encounter junichi masuda himself within the valor lakefront and the first thing he says to you when you talk to him is chow the italian word for hello and given that we know that junichi masuda specifically is a person who really likes to hint at future pokemon games this could absolutely be a hint at an italian pokemon region that could potentially be coming for generation 9. however until we find out officially what generation 9 is we're just gonna have to wait and see if this is actually in fact a hint and with that that is how every pokemon generation has hinted at future games what do you guys think about these hints though are there any others i didn't
