to have shifts of mood is quite frequent in the general population and if it doesn't interfere with your normal relations with other you just say on a bad day I'm moody don't pay attention to me no problem but if the mood shifts seriously affects the brain which they relate to important people their irritation I think blow ups interfere with ordinary work situation then there's a problem and deep uncertainty in their intimate commitments not being able to decide whether they love somebody or not oscillating between love and hatred not knowing how to assess other people a kind of sense of puzzlement need to adjust their behavior to that of others without having a constant internal sense of security how to behave and what to expect from others very often borderline patients are not able to maintain a work situation because of the irregularity of work patterns frequent sense of incapacity that they can work at all instability of love relations contradictory behaviors towards friends families partners they irritate them because of their rage attacks and excessive demands and immature childlike behavior that in turn makes other people react angrily and they react very strongly and it becomes a vicious cycle in which they get into problems all the time and they may also learn in normal patterns of dealing with very intense feelings instead of getting enraged with others they get depressed they have a tendency to self mutilate to relax to calm themselves down as if experiencing of pain give them a sense of control knowing what's going on and how to understand it so instead of getting angry with others they start cutting themselves or burning themselves they easily shift from feeling great to feeling bad about themselves and sometimes become suicidal it's an expression of general rage and irritation directed against self as well as others rather than connected with deep ongoing guilt feelings so there is an instability a chronic instability the ability of mood immaturity of reactions which creates problems in their life
