ronzo LCS presented by Geico on fs1 now show so the two one series advantage and after yesterday's right now as we get ready for game favorite John smokes Joe Davison for Joe the Yankees down two games to one John they hand the ball to Masahiro Tanaka who was great in Game one he's been really good in October throughout his career no but the Yankees badly needed a win tonight they have their best big game pitcher going they do they've got to get to Houston and what better way to get to Houston they got a win tonight one of the next two nights they have to win their best matchup is with Tanaka because he has been that good in the postseason I don't think he gets enough credit yes it hasn't been a ton of innings he's pitched but he gives up no hits no runs and he's been almost perfect in this series so for Tanaka with the conditions today and the bullpen and the possible four games in a row you need five maybe six innings to help the Yankees get back to Houston and to help that bullpen you know these are two really good offenses during the regular season they've not done much so far in this championship series but you got to figure they walked in and saw the wind and saw the flags blowing the way they were and liked what they saw yeah the wind is going to be havoc on fielders pitchers and maybe even enters but these hitters have had to face a lot of quality pitching that they don't face every day in the regular season and for these two offenses they both have to get going Houston's 1 for 19 with runners in scoring position the Yankees which are built here at home built on the long haul have struggled as well other than Game one they haven't been able to really get the big hit so for the Yankees to take this series to Houston and possibly win the series the offense has got to be better Tanaka for the Yankees Greinke goes for the Astros and a rematch of Game one and for more on Zack Greinke here's Tom Verducci oh thanks Joe you know every pitcher takes the mound with a best friend the one pitch he could most rely on for Zack Greinke it's the change-up batters hit 194 against it but this postseason his best friend has gone missing against the Yankees in Game one he threw only seven changeups the fewest in his last 93 starts and lost his last three decisions in the postseason now tonight Astros pitching coach Brent Strom is looking for two early signs from Frankie more fast balls up and in and the return of his best friend the change-up now here's Ken Rosenthal thanks Tom for the Astros the cat-and-mouse game was Masahiro Tanaka begins the moment George Springer steps to the plate AJ Hinch wants his hitters to lay off to knock his slider away and force him to come in hitters are just 1 for 13 austin aqus latter this postseason and hinges thinking is this if you look for the ball away you're going to chase away if you look for the wall in you might get a mistake of course all this is easier said than done Jose Altuve said that's not the protest slider at two different speeds and that there were times in Game one when he thought he had one to hit and then just like that it was gone Joe alright Kenny and he pitched him to seven nothing win in Game one but since then it has been all Houston behind Verlander in Game two behind Cole in Game three and so a 2-1 series advantage for Houston try to take command with Verlander on deck while the Yankees trying to even it up at two games apiece in the Bronx Peter on easily impressed - when dear hearts you have to capture the imagination larger-than-life characters a bold design vibrant colors yo here only the best can be considered all city [Music] heyyo the shadow of the skyline can be daunting but a true artist always rise to the occasion a fluid motion leads to greatness the scissors spokes create a masterpiece if you have what it takes to make it here they will remember you forever write their name in the history books tonight [Music] [Music] New York's own RZA giving us ready for Game five in Sierra's and the entire wu-tang clan in the new horror series wu-tang an American saga screaming now 56 degrees and when we talked about off of the top 16 miles per hour out to right field as Masahiro Tanaka gets ready to go yeah what's interesting about that win watching batting practice a lot of balls were dying in center field and right field and the ball that carried the best was out to left field we'll see if that continues it swirls here and we'll see what impact if off that has any up tonight second look at the lineup for the Houston Astros here for Game four it is the same at the top with Springer Altuve and Brantley really Altuve and Brantley the only guys doing much of anything for the Astros in this ALCS then Bregman brewing on the rookie Alvarez with Correa hitting seven Torinos back in there at catcher and Josh Redick who hit a home run of this series on Tuesday the 30 year old all-star from Japan Masahiro Tanaka often at his best in biggest games and especially good here at the Yankee Stadium controlled environment in Houston he was fantastic 49 off-speed pitches compared to 18 fast balls with the wind the condition even though he is good at home let's look at his split and see what the wind does to that split finger fastball George Springer stands it and off we go he attacks the first pitch it's fouled on it so along with Tanaka his fastball is more of a show pitch but I would expect more fast balls tonight the cat-and-mouse game everybody knows what the other person is trying to do who adjusts or alters their game plan to make the other one change their game plan Springer prize delay off on the hands it does the springer one of the many Astra is struggling to get things going offensively he had the big home run in Game two of this series to tie it but he's four for 33 overall yeah they would love Houston to get him going which they already got Altuve going it makes their lineup much more difficult to navigate leading things off and this one pitch Trax Elena the good news for the first out of the now the defensive positioning has been sterling for the Yankees in this series Gregorius is in the right spot for that one here's the outfield Gardner and laughs tics making the start in center and judge and right infielder Shelley at third Gregorius and Torres up the middle digital me who the first baseman and Gary Sanchez does the catching it's rare of the first two batters of the game you don't have to move if you're the Yankees you're basically playing a pole shift on Springer and Altuve first two hitters of the Astros period of Game three 375 four home runs overall in October he has been unreal and certainly the life and blood of this team took the crowd out of it two days ago with a early homerun office every No it's interesting you got he's moved a little bit up in the box I mean closer to the plate normally he's way off the plate and then makes his first move towards the plate this time he's a little bit closer to home plate you talk about that cat and mouse game Altuve in particular talked openly about how great this slider of Masahiro Tanaka was he was looking for the slider and still couldn't hit him yeah and because he throws for the variety of speeds which is a deadly weapon for any pitcher who can command speed and sweeping action of a slider there it is right there a little bit tighter version four ball two it just has great feel on that side of the plate and when you have that kind of feel you make a ball go away from a right-hander and then you have a pitch like a split finger that comes into a right-hander that is the lanes that the hitter has to cover and it's very difficult to cover both when a pitchers on with those two pitches [Applause] on the - on pitch Jose Altuve the leaks one down and follows - OH - does it offense that was historically good in many ways during the regular season but against Masahiro Tanaka in Game one it brought up the minimum over six innings and a game one waited for Tom [Applause] [Applause] to to flip the right judge lays it down two up and two down I'm flying crew here for Game four it is the 41 year old Dan Bellino making his fleet debut in the LCS change as far as the crew chief as Mike Everitt replaces Jeff Nelson Jeff left game 3 with a concussion best wishes in his recoveries Everett takes over as the crew chief his first LCS appearance in a few years so two up two down for Tanaka here's Michael Brantley eleven during the regular season his first would Houston one of the most consistent hitters in baseball when he's been healthy over the last few years [Applause] covered to this game in Spanish available the night on FS to see Tanaka has so many ways to get a strike and for a lot of pitchers in baseball they're trying to live in the zone with their stuff he particularly doesn't he may just get you ahead with a strike and then keep nibbling to each corner split-finger first one he'll throw it to right-handers as well and the wind is a weird one it just swirls it comes in Gus sometimes it lays low and then it'll pick up and to me the split-finger fastball if it's cool dry that's the pitch that suffers more than the rest because the grip is so important in the feel that pitch is essential the pitch that he'd lost the feel up throughout the middle part of the regular season seems to have found it late in the regular season Karen over here to the postseason it's always been his best pitch she developed it back in Japan the kicks and fires one warden Brantley takes the spread convinced ooh sorry for the corny illustration but Tanaka reminds me of a golfer that's not flashy just hits fairways and greens doesn't hit it a long way he just does all the little things it might look a little boring but in a day and age of velocity and stuff he is a true pitcher and pitches to his strengths which exposed the hitters looking for one two three first Bradley does well to leave that fastball this is something the Astros when they're right who better than anybody that is avoid strikeouts avoid chasing up and down the line [Applause] - - let's see that's how good Brantley is he's not an anxious hitter so he trusts his hands him from wait longer there's a split grip you see the lateral movement good pitch to entice most guys to swing at but he trusts his hands and he can stay back and recognize the pitches off the plate he's not a wild swinger and he won't expand the zone too often and after falling behind one into he's looked at full man on his three two taps it foul we'll do it again see he would be the guy I would have to circle when the lineup car comes to me and the reason I would circle him is because I can't go there for a strike now I'm just not going to get it I mean I've got a historically look at his numbers and go he's not going to expand the zone and I better not have runners in scoring position with less than two outs because he's probably going to get him in so he's a guy you circle and go that's not where you go to get the strikeout problem on the Astros lineup is if there are holes you got to make guys are good avoiding those case seven pitch from Tanaka they've got four of the top 10 players in the majors as far as toughest to strike out although those numbers as we talked about during the open have gone way up in this championships here they have but they've also played an uncharacteristically to teams that would not play this way in the regular season meaning they're gonna throw Johnny whole staff at you which is tougher to do another three two and he takes it low with a two-out walk Bradley keeps the inning alive for Bregman now for Bregman you want to talk about patience no one has had more patience against right-handed hitters pitchers that he has and I will say this until it happens at some point you got to be leery of that first pitch he hasn't swung early a lot he showed that the Yankees have shown him that they will not let Bregman beat him and he's showing the patience which he'll suffer in the average because he's not expanding the zone the guys behind Bregman better start hitting if he doesn't get some pitches to hit yeah so he's just 1 for 7 but his on-base percentage is above 500 in this series because he's walked a bunch he's been hit by a pitch legitimate MVP candidate here were two gone in the first inning takes historic on the outside corner and so what he's gonna do is anything that spins away from him he's going to take until two strikes if it's over the plate he's got a split he's splitting the plate in half he's taking the plate in half and saying muck towards me his mind that hot away from you his his is the pitchers and he stays basically very disciplined to that goes after an elevated fastball park set up let's add the glorious insurable on 40 at least makes for urea stripped a little bit farther away skolas first it's coming to bat for the first time of this lineup find out by Aaron Boone and there is a surprise at the top in the three spot it is Aaron Hicks in just his second start in two months part of the order it's Torres Encarnacion and Gardner drops down from the three spot to hit six trying to get Gary Sanchez going it has been a miserable October for the Yankee catcher or Shilla and Gregorius round things out for the games Zack Greinke was appointed at the deadline for four of Houston's top prospects eight will one in the regular season form but he got blown up in the division series and he was the losing pitcher and Game one of this championship series yeah he made a couple of mistakes unfortunately his offense couldn't muster up any runs and fell victim to the loss but I think you know for Greinke he's going to want to work both sides of the plate stay out of the middle and watch how aggressive the Yankees are in first pitches including this guy DJ LeMahieu watches ball one the better he gets the calls on the corners the better Greinke will be because he is a more of a finesse pitcher that works off of a great delivery and really usually is pretty good command [Applause] two things that have to happen for the Yankees in my opinion the bottom of the lineups going to have to get some traffic on bases so when the meet LeMahieu comes up he's got RBI opportunities same thing for Taurus because those are the two hottest hitters especially with runners in scoring position not only in baseball but on the Yankees well many of this season John's little bit more than a hundred becomes the bottom of the Yankees order was historically good but in this postseason not good at all I mean you're going to the bottom five in the order in this series six for 63 but nobody on for LeMahieu on a 3o pitch he leads things off for the [Applause] fashion shows defense one of the best in baseball this season Brantley and lunch springer and center and Redick in right on the infield it's Bregman in Korea Altuve at second Guri out at first and Robinson Chirinos speck in the lineup doing the catching well that's just the start the Yankees wanted in this crowd because they understand they've got to get this game I mean it's not a must-win but pretty much pretty close to it when you think about what's left and the rest of the series they certainly could change the flavor of this series tying it up to to it is there a judge it takes ball one in five consecutive balls from Greinke I would expect a breaking ball or something other than the fastball he's missed with five of them go to the something else to try and create a strike and reset your your count the one out drops in a breaking ball one on one he has such good feel and again we talked about tonight with the wind and the cool temperatures what that's going to do to each pitchers feel and touch that's a great sign after missing five straight pitches with a fastball and then flip it into a curveball they'd off man aboard and now Aaron judge boxes one drop lowball to that pitch was not working form in Houston it's a power chain I call it a power chain joke because you see at 87 miles an hour it looks like almost like a two-seamer and it's gonna drop out of the zone there's the grip there's the spin and then the Yankees have done a good job against that pitch not chasing it too often it was one of the best change ups in baseball this season judge swings and misses it a good one there too and chewy threw it about 20 times per game during the regular season he only threw it seven times in Game one that was the fewest in two years yeah and that just tells you what he felt in the feel of that pitch because that is the most field oriented pitch you're throwing with three fingers that you won't throw with any other pitch with because it's offset here's this tutu yes back in five days yes you make a mechanical change you throw in the bullpen you try to get you know mechanics and confidence go hand in hand I don't think you lose your confidence before you lose your mechanics I think you lose your mechanics then you lose your confidence I don't believe that works the other way you know you don't just wake up one day and then go out on confidence today it's when you lose your feel and that usually comes from mechanics and when your mechanics are in play when it see the hitter or pitch or you feel really good about your strengths another - - to judge too short knocked down by Kolya though is the second to get LeMahieu by the way to make sure that that ball was in caught and start on the tough spot there is forged out one away yeah in a possible situation for LeMahieu because he has to let that ball go through so that's going to go down fielder's choice but in reality there's nothing will may you could have done you can't even get off that far just to anticipate that [Music] [Applause] so one on one out and up comes Aaron Hicks big news around here Hicks getting plugged into the three spot August 3rd he was shut down and they thought was set it for Tommy John surgery so he went home day Arizona he was hanging out buddy came over to get some swings in and he said I'll talk to you instead of just tossing lately why don't actually cut it loose a little bit and Aaron said wait a minute this feels ok so he had his friend take video of him throwing sent that video to the Yankees and said look number one I don't know if I need Tommy John surgery number two I did all funk didn't play in the division series makes the ALCS roster Aaron Boone is like what he's seen from him in limited duty over the first few games enough where he's their three hitter here for the pivotal game for one from Greinke he takes it at the bottom of the zone strike two but here's the irony for me and a year where everybody should get tons of credit for the Yankees injuries was the theme its injuries that I believe have got him out of sync at the wrong time of the year Encarnacion missed a month he came back you can catch lightning in the bottle every once in a while you talked about Hicks stand-in this is a team that has Depp as its leverage and advantage and they've lost it Voight same thing a breaking ball it slipped into shallow right center field sinking click 3 over that shadow car you can't get it and a dunk shot Bishop you wonder what the wind is with that pop-up perhaps giving it a boost away from Korea yeah that pop-up was in the air a long time but the problem is the outfielders were back and it was it was dying so the wind was blowing it down see were Springer reacts and where he goes he think that ball is going to carry and it doesn't and this is almost this would have been an incredible play for Korea good read by judge and now the Yankees have the guy at the plate with first and second that they were hoping to get up as many times because in Game one he delivered doubled and homered against Zack Greinke twenty-two-year-old Glaber Torres leading baseball in the postseason of those 10 RBIs opportunity here in the first against Greinke and he wastes no time popping one behind first Coryell retreating that put it away for a big out number two for Zack Greinke pop-ups will not be easy tonight I'm not telling you and it's gonna play havoc and you got to stay focused and try not to have that ball bouncing as you're running after it as a middle infielder because that flag from time to time is really going to mess with the reads of the outfielders and for that matter the infielders and so it's up to Encarnacion with two out you mentioned the injuries he's slowly starting to bite these Nikes here in October and car nación a guy who played just ten games over the final two months first because of a broken wrist and then because of an oblique while he got off to a hot start in the division series he slipped belongs during this championship series yeah and that's what people don't understand about the postseason because it's so magnified in the next week of a regular season he may go 7 for 14 but you don't have time to pick there's no patience right because everyone wants to have their best when the postseason comes and you get out of timing in it happens it's it's normal tension pressure when pollen is strike and so I've always said that the guy who can simplify and have the simplest mechanics will have a huge advantage in the postseason because he doesn't have to rely on that timing being perfect because he's already kind of mechanically good [Applause] my center-cut fastball that he takes in at one and two yeah he missed his spot by two feet and he got away with it because maybe Encarnacion was looking for something else he was trying to bury this fastball in and he threw him central that's just basic hitter looking for something else and you get a little lucky when you're a pitcher sometimes it's not cranky feels like he's living right and forgot it is eight consecutive thirty longer seasons took that one runners take off on this one so you know for from Torino similar at second and third these are the things teams have to do I don't care if it's in their DNA or not take advantage and let the other team gives you put pressure pressure and more pressure on the pitcher that's out there to have to worry about a ball butter hit now his two runs perfect for the Yankees the issue has not been putting runners on it's been bringing him in these last two games [Applause] good Encarnacion deliver in the first he's looked at four [Applause] great pinch in a great tank locked him up and he was going to sell that no matter what he wasn't going to be able to hit it so he was hoping the best call was going to be a ball [Applause] 3-2 breaking ball maybe and see what drink he goes to back in there he missed a month Greinke's issue during the first two games of the postseason was home runs he gave him five of them he didn't issue any walks was issued to aux in this first inning the bases are loaded for Brett Gardner longest-tenured Yankee 36 years old having a career year 28 home runs during the regular season although just 2 for 13 in the sales he's been aggressive in these situations on first pitch let's see if he stays pressive and just gets more disciplined on a pitch he likes course last game first and second nobody out first pitch pop-up opportunity for The Alchemist so far the correct strike zone but it's how you know and Greinke's eyes he's like oh I could steal it inside he'd an inch here there keep putting the pressure on the corners the bases loaded in the first inning against Garrett : game 3 couldn't capitalize as much of the story as anything takes ignore ahead to an hour much better approach I mean you and every hitter wants to go up there and make something happen and the home crowd go crazy and sometimes you work yourself into a - aggressive approach and you make it out earlier than you should letting the count letting the pitch that you're looking for come and so far he's now got the perfect opportunity on a to old count with the bases loaded [Music] Cole is able to get out of it Yankees some of his last two games or they've managed just three runs have gone one for 9 with runners in scoring position and stranded 16 on a to vertex mode 3 what Miller reporter [Applause] you trust your veteran give them a green light though brink you can't find it oh not here I mean I'm not saying they won't I just think when a guy's struggling you're gonna see one pitch in the one pitch you see here you're more likely gonna see again [Applause] here it is they walked in and the Yankees take the lead in the fourth [Applause] only twice during the regular season did zack greinke issue three walks in a game he's issued three in this first inning alone [Applause] now you might have got that call if they were set up over there but he was set down in the middle and that ball was just a tad off the plate great at-bat by brink by Gardner passing the baton on to the next guy that's what you got to do and that Astros fans like wait a minute it's not supposed to happen Gregg you have got the one and two on Encarnacion has issued seven consecutive balls now look who finds himself in the spotlight again it is Gary Sanchez who is 2 for 21 with 10 caves in this postseason here's a guy historically doesn't swing a lot in the first pitch he's actually given the pitchers a lot of opportunity to go strike one he has struggled it only takes one click of the bat one good feeling to unlock a cease a postseason that hasn't gone very well see what Frankie decides on first pitch if he's got that same approach thinking mr. Sanchez is in take role [Applause] Sanchez takes a breaking ball that Greinke seems to have a decent feel for on his first and he might be the only thing he's been close on his fastball and that's what this Yankee lineup will make you do that you don't want to center cut any of them I mean you want to pick in the corner and expand the zone so that it gives you freedom ahead in the count he just hasn't thrown enough strikes with that basketball on the other side of the plate [Applause] Sanchez swings through a fastball on its own too if you had the carrot characterize what Greinke tries to do to a hitter he wants to slow you down speed young slow you down speed you up he'll even slow you down at a slowest rate as you can imagine with that blooper curveball he's trying to make his fastball look firmer to the Yankees hitters after he's established the curveball slider changing [Applause] in a series where offenses been at a premium a huge moment early on bases loaded two garnered a no to the Sanchez that he swings through and misses strike three so the Yankees get one but only one and for Zack Greinke that has to feel like a victory wobble there Newell signal is here and by indeed the world's number one job site Nikki's for the first run here in Game four new Liguori out a leadoff the second for Houston he's had some tough luck and squared up some pitches but not a lot to show for it expect one from Tanaka Tanaka has had a good theme going and that's getting ahead of these Astro hitters with strike one he did it 15 out of 18 times in the first game and now he's five for five on first pitch strikes going up for this one it's taken high ball one and again he wants the hitters of the eyes and once the eyes are the hitters to look down and away and if he can get them looking down in a way he's gonna have success to knock [Music] didn't chase there that time to online can touched on it in the open about you would think if you want to get a ball up to hit you would look a certain way but it actually could be disagree this event disadvantage for you if you're looking for the ball away to hit if you don't have the proper technique / to center field there's Hicks things up somewhat gone [Applause] we're talking about this Astros lineup struggling to get going we touched on Springer then you get to Guri al who you mentioned has had some bad luck but the next man coming up in Alvarez the guy on deck in Korea struggling as well yeah there's another example of those numbers will tell you Garret Gary L in the regular season would run into a bunch of hits the way he's hitting the ball yeah just some bad luck but these guys have yet to really kind of square up anything and this guy is a game changer in Alvarez 22 year old rookie it's it better that is one of the best rookie seasons ever in terms of opiates came up in early June I mean you got a lineup full of all-stars full of superstars there were long stretches this fear where this 22-year old rookie was the most feared guy in the line yeah and I don't know if he's ever really gone through he doesn't have much experience I don't know if he's gone through his stress like this right I mean all he's done is dominate baseball it's why he's gonna win the Rookie of the Year so this is his first kind of stretch gone old for his last 15 10 strikeouts in that span probably faced seven or eight different pitchers maybe in that stretch because you think about what the Rays did in him previous series and how many guys he had to face there and what the Yankees have been able to do and mix and match their bullpen [Applause] I mean I got to say this because we have so much information and it's great information don't get me wrong but the postseason is not the information that 162 games accrues you're facing some dominant pitches so your offense is going to go down your power is going to go down and I think it's it's a it's a dangerous game to play to think that it analytically over 162 should transfer into the postseason it doesn't work that way you're facing an array of pitchers to get to that 162 number whereas now you're facing cold berlin snow glass now I mean those are elite you're talking about elite and and some of the numbers were crunched I think New York is the most effective offensively when they face a top 9 er a pitcher or top 9 strikeout pitcher the gap between their average and powers a little bit bigger than it is for houston's that's what you're going to see an October almost exclusively yes and that's why it's a different game in the non octo here's the tutu and alvarez takes it blow it count goes full can you imagine if they had been the play these games with no off dates now you can get closer to the 162 average because you're going to have to use your your fourth starter and your fifth starter or bring somebody back on short rest but the off days allow you to not do that [Applause] bases empty one gone 3-2 pitch [Applause] picking that thing out of the dirt drought number two Torres got just a little lazy there he had time to get up and make the throw and his first baseman bailed him out there that ball was a bullet and so he gets in front of it he's got plenty of time to get up but he throws from his hand and that could have gotten away and obey you who's not a traditional first baseman has done a nice job there at first base he's a former gold golfer is a second baseman by an exclusively first here in the postseason is Carlos Correa comes up Korea the memorable swing to win game to the walk-off home run but that's about it he's sitting 161 in October so to finish my point it's like that's why if you do things a little bit differently in the postseason just put more pressure on these pitchers I'm not saying you got a bunt and change your whole I know bunts aren't gonna happen in this series but taking that walk Bart Gardner took that walk he passed the baton on to the next guy he got an RBI little things that the astros vibe themselves on and the Yankees do might be the difference in a series where two juggernauts are going head to head the other day the running by the Astros the execution defensively in Game two saved that game those are the kind of things that we look back on to see what tips the scale and lets the team win a series to encore a it's just a completely different environment as you get to the postseason and these teams combined average close to 12 runs per game during the regular season it's half of that here in the American League Championship Series yeah that's going to get tougher each game that that goes on you know with the pitchers that are yet to toe the rubber three balls one strike the 3 1 pitch combos Koran swings and misses an extreme to the looking slider right there great slider but that's characteristically and about his team that's a 3-1 pitch you got to be locked middle middle in he wanted to make something happen he expanded the strike zone and now is giving Tanaka [Applause] Tanaka looking for a 1-2-3 second piece Yankees won that Stroh's nothing to the bottom of the second of Game four got that right and a bases-loaded walk from Brett Gardner Sheila's shovel at the bottom of the Yankees order against a cranky its pop up on the first pitching call Escalera puts it away one pitch one out one pitch outs and a postseason one good jump in a regular season of such sweet music to a pitcher because whenever you get to this level getting the first guy out is a huge deal regular-season not as much it really isn't it's like the tension so much less but in the postseason you feel like it's a huge rally and it's rare there's been a rare first we don't get a lot of one pitch outs in these two kind of offenses didi Gregorius out of the nine spot today texts on the glorious one 4:12 but he too has had a little bit of bad luck here the ball that he thought off of the bat was gone would have been game-changing three-run home run in Game three but it died in the warning track as many of the fly balls in this October have other than to now the Astros will put the full fledge shift on with two strikes basically taking away the element of what little percentage of a buck was going to be opposite field basic Gregorius [Music] the top of the order we're talking about the bottom of this sort of being so bad that the gentleman who's not coming up with anybody on but for the single from didi here is the one on one hand and that's more Dini like he early and his approach is looking to his damage and power is poor for them with two strikes you got to give up something and a great pitch by cranky off the plate he just the other way off the end of the bat both hits for the Yankees so far tonight with two strikes against Greinke Nikki's within a second look at my hair taking ball one when a guy's tries to stay up the middle and as good a hitter as LeMay you his it's actually not a bad pitch to throw him as a changeup because it gives him a little less ability to stay up the middle this is so good against the fastball whoo and you would think with a guy with his average would pull the ball he just doesn't pull the fast balls off the right-hander's that launched in play he they're not it's like a low percentage he'll go the other way up the middle off-speed he will pull wani taps on jet the right side won't be an easy play Duryodhan thankee made that look easy he's gotten so much better at first base you'll agree l to out that is a great play during the championship series on the road and a little tweener right there care how many times you practice it spring training he's got to get over there make the Glock turn in trouble now Greg he's such a good athlete you knew he was going to get over in good position this play was made by guru L any practice that so many times in spring training it is amazing how many times that play does not get played well over the course of a season these guys came up in queue but mostly as a second baseman and a third baseman but of course Altuve at second breckman at third so he said it in his face for the Astros and what better there's judge takes strike one reached on a fielder's choice and scored the game's first run the glorious is second to God one pitch it's amazing some of the discipline that really we've seen on display here it's why these two offenses are so good I can't tell you how many guys have played with that said they're going to go up and take take take as soon as they get in the box they swing its thing some guys can do it some guys can't and we've seen a really good display of it so far both his lineup says it's life's got to be so tough on pitchers facing these groups that's why it's so impressive with the pitching has done the introspective lineup over the first three games yeah and no one's willing to give in and just well I say that with Kohl thrown 100 miles an hour late in the game but for the most part you trying to stay off the center of the plate because a lot of damage gets done off the center of the plate cranking home of the 1/2 his hat his way with Aaron judge and their previous meetings judges old four seven with four strikeouts against you know the pitch that you just can't get your mind to do but be very difficult for judge to hit is a high curveball because he's immediately going to see it up and take it and it comes it the tongue tumbles in the top of the strike zone but it's so hard to convince yourself you can do that if there's anybody that can think a little bit differently it's this guy yeah he tried to slow it down and make it appear like it was going to be in the zone but Judge is in a place right now where I've seen him take a lot of pitches better than he has in the past [Applause] [Applause] but two gone and a man in second Erin jive bounces it foul we'll do it again so already 41 pitches but I'll say 28 of those a little less have been stress pitches and that's a good thing for the Yankees create stress early 30 swings it misses strike 3 3 game is stranded man at second and after 2 in New York the Yankees try to even the series at two games apiece had the early one nothing lead couple scoreless innings for Tanaka so far now one run over 13 innings this postseason day nine and one for the Astros in the third here's Robinson Chirinos and there is big one Torino sold for 7 in this ALCS a home run in the division series or to the catch in tandem with Martine Maldonado thirty-five-year-old in his first year with the Astros ahead to a no it's the first time he's missed strike one see the shift on Chirinos he sell out for that fastball he wants to do damage to it and wants to pull it secondary stuff more swings and misses probably tanaka though you could go up there for a long plate appearance and not see a single fact spawn yeah so he does a great job of recognizing okay you're looking for this I'm gonna give you that I'm gonna confuse you sometimes but then I'm gonna stay with my strengths and my strengths it's to my glove side a way to right-handers just off the plate walk to open this third inning no we check in with Ken Rosenthal well some early good signs for the Astros even though they don't have a hit yet in this game just two swings and misses on Tanaka's first 14 sliders and also three balls hit a hundred and four miles per hour or above 95 is considered hard-hit but Tom there might be a reason those balls aren't getting through there is a reason the Yankees have people in the right place they've really dialed up the aggressiveness with their shifts against the Astros in the postseason much more than in the regular season and so far their Astros are hitting into the shift Josh ranek here taking strong : now Houston coming into this game against the more aggressive shifts that Tom's talking about all 413 on ground balls when the shift is put on and against the really good pitchers that's why it's happening good pitchers get them to hit the ball where you want them the shift covers mistakes from other pitchers that can so what helps out a little bit more the guys who don't throw the ball where they want to that is a huge job [Applause] aggressively they're shifting these Astros hitters didn't matter where the defense was and retic came up early on in game three hit a home run pause at home of the one wand Redick gulfs it to life than a drop in for a base hit they actually said catcher's interference either way Redick is aboard and they're at first and second nobody out and the balls live is you can take whatever you want to take but more than likely the end results going to be your on base because of that right there he hits the glove I should knows that I should know this to see he does he still get credit for the base hit yes first of the night for Houston all right so if you'd have flown out you would have got the first base via the air what about me though if you didn't even oh he's so mad at Gary Sanchez come on dude I just got a head blog on the way and I don't get it well since first opportunity here John and George Springer up there first and second nobody out this'll test the overall philosophy of what AJ wants his team to do if Springer starts taking pitches like that and let the count be his friend he'll start getting more fast balls to hit and therefore that average will be a little bit better little jumpy at the plate this postseason Ken talked about the hard hit balls for the Astros so far Springer had one of them to start the game lined out to short one for 13 in the series now that balls drilled the left field that sends a three-run shot from George Springer and the Yankees fall behind 3-1 [Applause] has not had many hits in this postseason before George Springer the ones that he has provided have been big ones I'm telling you that first tape got him that pitch more times than not in the postseason he's been swinging at that pitch he was able to lay off of it and Tanaka came back in the middle of plate he didn't know it was down that's the side of the field where the balls gonna jump and he hit an absolute missile if he gets going the Astros are going to be rolling that is his 13th career postseason home run rate the top of this guy Jose Altuve for the franchise record so here's the first pitch first and second nobody out again an anxiousness so the hitter wants to do something good and he lays off that pitch alright Tanaka looks at it he says alright I got to come back more over the middle and what does he do he hits the same pitch but down over the plate discipline to play with a healthy ripping a min so until [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so the three-run shot from Springer has the Astros ahead three one here in the third inning of Game four I don't know to Altuve fouls it off we'll do it again this is the first inning in this series one of these teams has scored more than two another O'Toole I'm a little surprised and again you know pitch selection you got to be confident and you think it's the right pitch then he went back to back splitters on Springer in the second one cost them three runs [Applause] Springer that tied it in Game two with a home run against out of vino its Springer that gives him the lead here in Game four with a home run against Tanaka another ode to pitch to Altuve another foul ball walk single homer in this inning for Houston [Applause] reaches out and drags that one too short running flavor from the dose is not in time an infield single for Altuve let's say his knee is healthy he was for high end down the line you want to know why this man gets hits all these years it's stuff like this fairly routine the nothing routine about that speed Wow that's that's impressive it's not the same guy over the first couple months is season I could talking about that knee had the surgery after last season and that lingered through spring training into the first two months of the season on the injured list for month and man he says that reset pretty safe his season yeah he was having a hard time stabilizing that name felt like he was healthy herb but wasn't sturdy and steady with that back knee to be able to power him he uses his lower half so well and we got a chance talk to him today it's just a refreshing player on the high he can't root for a guy like this but he just said he loves this place like the fans here are so incredible and it's such a home-field advantage you can't help but feel like the environment is exactly where he wants to be even though they don't want you to do well he could appreciate how much there Yankees he said that everywhere you go the Finns walk 13 right but what makes this place different is that they hate the other team as much as they love out see it's exactly right and I mean this is an iconic franchise conic fanbase that you could be a hero in this town man if you deliver at this time [Applause] first four reached in the inning against Tanaka who finds the outside corner first Brantley's letting him know I know the strike zone so that was not a strike she checked my chase right come on Dan Chadd green starting to warm this is how Aaron Boone and the Yankees have gone about it into the last two years especially this season especially in the policies it's Owen to burst with rain out one of the big questions becomes how do you walk that line of managing to win today while still realizing you're going to win the series you have to play through three or four games four days in a row yeah when they happen they have to approach it that they gotta win today even though it's not a muscle and they're not eliminating if they lose but you like there you like your chances at the Yankees if you go into the malls game - - even though you're facing Verlander and possibly call one more time each state might be a little different for those guys as well [Applause] Tanaka home of the o2 Brandt links it to me judge cuts it off on a bounce Altuve headed for third and the youngsters have it inquired five consecutive baserunners to open the third against pasajero Tanaka if this isn't the definition of professional hitting you're never going to get a better definition I mean might as well just say Brantly in the Webster's dictionary he used to say you know when he's healthy mean that is two strikes swing and that was just taken a pitcher's pitch and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] in threes star here Cole loves what he sees one of the best two-strike hitters in baseball Michael Brantley with a base hit so here's what Bregman is going to do he's looking to pull for damage early and then he's looking to actually go the other way with two strikes because of the way they have the shift on him pull shift to toe he's got Sanchez to yourself and the answer is doing exactly what they did in Game three advancing the second and third even with that out between homeland and three that is outstanding again you can't appreciate the hustle it takes for Bregman you know he must be disappointed he just grounded out to the pitcher but he's not giving up on the play and he's taken the advice of mr. Howe to Bay saying come on come on I'll stay in this rundown and now second and third and a big time pressure situation again that led to a couple rhymes for the Astros late innings of Game three so degorio to capitalize with a sacrifice fly in that situation and here he is again the man at third and one gone it flam - if they also pull the infield in all why this a bad matchup for Tanaka and I'm kind of surprised they're not walking gharial to face Alvarez even though Alvarez is left-handed and that would load up the bases I believe that's a better matchup for Tanaka barielle even though his average isn't great he has made contact and hard contact they smoked the line drive to center first time against Tanaka sprays this one foul and it's 101 it is one of the best hitters in baseball by a few measures the best hitter number the final three months of this season and I know you got a veteran pitcher and he knows how to pitch around the situation but tough spot to be in with the infield in and this kind of right-handed hitter at the plate [Music] a third Brett man at second here's a wah-wah going upstairs way up there football too Green continues to warm [Applause] throws are the three one lead on the Springer home run more with Duryea lon - one from Tanaka to it too while gifts on top of this has made a couple good pitches now to get the count to two strikes [Music] certainly doesn't have to give in at any point of this battle because there is a base open now there are only two baserunners against Tanaka through his six innings in Game one bachelors have five here in the third inning alone and still just one gone he's a big runs for the Astros because you know the Yankees are going to score some runs tonight the tutu Sanchez who had one scoot by him and Game three of it to get in front of that three and two on Uriel the problem for Aaron Boone is he really wants to not going to get through this because with Greenup you really don't want to be bring green in a game that you're down four or five his values too good even though he might keep the game close because you've got the for potential games in a row that's why this scenario even exists we seen in Game two what happened with James Paxton in a one-run game in this exact situation and he was out of the game now of course this is a two-run game with only one out if Thaxton was pulled with one god in the third inning of that second game Tanaka up to throw his 60th pitch remember he threw just 68 in those six shutout innings in Game one the payoff pitch scurry lifts it to light judge short the minimum bid 700 makes the catch not gonna challenge it too this the threat of his arm encouraging Brantley to stay put a big out number two for the Yankees in Tanaka so remember that at bat remember this situation if the Yankees come back to win this game I think they're going to look back and talk about this and the ability to get out of this inning if Tanaka does and he hit it to the right guy it was in his perfect throw but he kind of knew they weren't going to run on him so and boy wouldn't this be the right spot for the rookie Alvarez come up with this first - to this ALCS second and third - God naturals in front three one third inning [Applause] on the first one from Tanaka Alvarez [Applause] Darger's dare but the in Stroh's have flipped it around George Springer with his 13 career postseason home run the best of the third the Astros leading to aren't in the series leading 3-1 in Game four [Applause] [Music] in October chill in the air Springer has the Astros in front 3-1 their Knicks leads off third and text reporting from Zack Greinke feels good for Zach to have a little bit of cushion here at Yankee Stadium you're only human if you don't think that's an important thing to go I got one mistake maybe two mistakes it's a tough place to pitch only two on Hicks per day it's not cold cheese or Verlander yeah they've proven there aren't too many places that are difficult for them to pitch this amazing another night Cole what he did without his best stuff yeah I mean oh it's accurate [Applause] franki home of a known to involve in his ball one on hips besides liking the back quality from Aaron Hicks over his first couple games in this series Aaron Boone talked about his personality and the way that he tends to embrace bigger the game the more he likes it he would thrive if they emotion into the three spot and that's a big thing that's not something to take lightly he can't measure that with a number right you can't can't put a stat to that that's an immeasurable that you have to know the player to know that that's a good feeling a manager has that his player will rise to the occasion because he's excited and locked in that a boot base hit his first time and I lead it off this third swinging and missing one gone t-mobile is introduced in its newest most powerful signal ever no signal goes further no signals more reliable whether you're home or away t-mobile is with you third strikeout of the night for Greinke and here's Glaber Torres that was a huge and that was a huge inning for the Yankees Tanaka will stay in the game now give him some more hopeful lengths and now it's up to the Yankees offense to kind of put some more pressure back on Zack Greinke what a 70-mile proper curveball ends for a strike this is no longer the Zack Greinke that throws mid-90s and overpowers you and I guess you don't pitch 16 major league seasons if you don't know how to evolve exactly he just as he does a great job spinning the baseball like a tiny slider maybe a slash cutter the slow curveball the power changeup and then the fastball has become more of a show pitch for him but when he's right he's dotting both sides of the plate with his fastball generous inside corner there and it's 1 & 2 and I mentioned early on he wasn't neither picture was getting this call and well yeah debuted when it was 20 mm for six seasons in Kansas City couple years in Milwaukee the quick stop with the Angels and then a few great seasons with the Dodgers before signing that big contract with Arizona and traded here to Houston at the deadline this year they seem Torres event canción on deck pitching with a 3-1 lead in the third here's his Tootsie again and it's been well-documented that Zachary Neve does besides and being a tremendous athlete like I mean literally between golf basketball you name it personality a little bit different more of an introvert keeps to himself rather things that he says will just come to his mind and will seem awkward but they're real to him he'll say things like I don't really believe in a no-hitter because that just creates too much tension and I don't want the attention rather than I think he believes that yeah really you think he doesn't want to throw a no-hitter I think he will he'll try but when it's gone he's more relieved than he is like can't wait for the press conference afterwards it's not his cup of tea he doesn't like to stand in front of a bunch of people and commiserate got a really close couple times this season once with Arizona once with Houston and in the hands there it stays two and two on Torres 205 wins Zack Greinke 16 major league seasons that is third among active pitchers top three on that list are on the building tonight CC Sabathia number one Justin Verlander 2 and then Greinke another two to Torres flexes one into shallow right center field there is Redick to God and here's Ken Joe it's been well-documented the adjustments Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole made after joining the Astros fewer sinkers more breaking balls more elevated 4 seamers the Astros though didn't ask cranky to change much John's touched on this he's unique in his variety of weapons his ability to locate pitches read swings disrupt hitters timing George Springer says he is a wizard on the mound he is I mean he's very unique and I'll tell you one thing I can't help but think one day when he stands to that podium and gives this Hall of Fame speech it might not be very long that may be where he's very uncomfortable with 30,000 people he stared his run up but that's where he's headed he's headed to the Hall of Fame along with his teammate Justin Verlander that's the kind of career he's had and obviously a few more years if he wants it to finish up turn 36 on Monday and on dan Cascio perfectly done to exact track he's somebody like you talked about who is really into the analytics really into studying the deeper levels of the game he's talked about his own Hall of Fame case how he thinks what he's done with the bat and the National League should contribute to that he's Curt 234 hitter what he's done as a fielder should contribute to 22 this is one many gold go out absolutely I mean that's just tells you how it what kind of an athlete this guy is is not flashy but he does everything very well you may hear 234 and say that doesn't have it and that's what and rip right new pitcher average across the league is 115 yeah I'll give you what that equates to 234 for pitchers like hitting 404 any day that's my own concert that's your skill yeah you're basically hitting once every five days just imagine if he hit every day that average would go up right I think it is just common sense Waverly high school math class hey get strike three call a lot of times you're not going to get that number one missing your spot number two the country not squeezed in it but this one goes Greinke's way so far this series in this game going the Astros way they lead it 3-1 [Music] Springer home run the Astros have a 3-1 lead as Tanaka gets ready to deal to Carlos Correa open in the fourth goes after the first pitch got it off the end of the bat well with rain out pushing this game four back four games in four days potentially Game five is tomorrow coverage starts at six Eastern three Pacific on fs1 on the fox sports app at Abby Verlander and Paxton her speech 708 e-string here's the character eNOS he started off four-pitch walk chose Claude heretic followed it with a base hit then the Springer Homer is the minimum in six innings against the Astros in Game one did Tanaka they're the first five reach against him the last inning soon something about seeing a guy again and again and it's life in the postseason yeah it is I just and obviously you have a strategy when he was faced with spring here and it was to throw a couple splits we would like to have one of those back [Applause] day nine and one four seven eight nine in this inning he'd hit her Torinos up there right now waiting on this one - it's a sharpie but in a bounce Gregorius and again it's that defensive positioning for the Yankees making my life difficult on the Astros and another good pick on the back end from the Mayhew Tom they've been shifting more and it sure is working yeah it definitely is they have not literally had a base hit on a ground ball against the ship and you see how deep the left side of that infield plays better that's another big part of that not just that they're shifting but your show and DV Korea's play extremely deep there's only one player on the Astros they really have to honor the bunt against and that's Jose Altuve Gio Michela told me he had never played third base so deep as he has this season of course that adds additional range you do need to have arm strength to play as deep as they do and both of those infielders have it strike one on Josh Reddick with the shift on him as well well on its the Matt Chapman defense third baseman for the A's loves to play way back there yeah he's started throws come on him and Nolan Arenado coming out of the same high school program sliced the left-center field sending Gardner back on eight pitches Masahiro Tanaka over the one two three four welcome back to the ALCS presented by Geico on fs1 at Yankee Stadium the Astros with a 3-1 lead and a George Springer home line we go to the bottom of the fourth Gardner Sanchez inertia ma coming up for the Yankees against Greinke you talked about this part of the lineups gotta make something happen for the Yankees they got to find a way to get one or two guys on and turn the lineup over on the top of the order it's what's made this 162 game Yankees so good because their strength of the lineup was a fatigue factor you get through the meat of it and then pitchers had to face seven eight nine and they wore him out throughout the year it's been a struggle here in the postseason Swain's throughout those big breaking pitches comes up empty owing to Gartner produced the first Yankees run with the bases loaded walk but it's 2 for 13 in this series one thing you can't let Greinke do is settle in because when it that rhythm I told you Bob he gets in a rhythm he's tough he survived the first inning which could have gotten really ugly for him and only gave up that one run he gets Gardner to chase first here in the fourth strikeout number five for Greinke it is able to get out of that business over to jam but don't further damage by gating the chase just like this to the man coming up here Gary Sanchez I was one of the better change ups he threw from the standpoint that it looked like out of his hand I know it doesn't look like it in their screen but when it came out of his hand to Gardner it looked like it was going to be a strike and obviously dis completely fell out [Applause] first pitch magic would be something Gary's chance Sanchez needs to get going he needs something early to feel good about rather than getting deep in the count because a lot of strikeouts and a lot of guys left on base [Applause] take suburban it's one and one is now a 172 career postseason hitter with strikeouts at almost 40% of his plate appearances Aaron Boone says never a thought of benching him like a lot of New York cop for said he always feels like he's one pitch away it's his on the ground is short there's Carrera 2 up 2 well season could be cruel and it can be a overshadow what guys do in the regular season because there's so much attention for the postseason and as I've always said every hitter goes through stretches in the postseason good or bad that happened multiple times in the regular season but no one notices this much there's every hitter goes out for 10 over 12 and then has this 10 for 20 stretch [Applause] to Ghana the fourth in jeepers Shiva takes a first strike Joe Davis John Smoltz ken rosenthal and Tom Verducci look at her but wiser game summary Yankees scored first and a bases-loaded walk from Brett Gardner in the first inning where George Springer but the go-ahead three-run home run in the third against Tanaka it's where we stand right now for Shelley shoots it past the mound waiting at second is out to there to finish off an eighth pitch fourth for Zack Greinke [Applause] [Music] did you see that now that's only in October I get it now you up on going yeah they're talking about this guy John George Springer leading off the fifth is three run home run the difference in this game so far I could try to walk him off to the plate with a cider wooden Bunch Springer grew up a die-hard Red Sox fan nearby New Britain Connecticut going to hundreds of games as a kid with his dad and his grandpa his uncle sometimes they go to a couple games a week he says his goal now on a daily basis is to played the game with joy put on a show for those young kids that he once was he sometimes between pitches will scan up into the crowd and find the mom and the dad and the young son or daughter and devote the next play to them Johnson this short regardless with a candy huh quickly took his time and barely got Springer for the first out of the fifth a couple big home runs in this series a lot of people are saying this is the single biggest swing of this series at this point Yankees led this series one nothing at that point then let the game by a woman that Homer tied it against out of Ino bomber gave him the lead earlier tonight against Tanaka stat cast powered by AWS gives you some of the details see the numbers on the that he hit much better hitter on the ball down in a ball coming back towards him than going away from him now oof a foul strike one twenty-nine-year-old who's signed in 2007 debuted in 2011 now is the first of three consecutive 106 lost seasons for the Astros so he has seen it all organizations turn around finally made it to the postseason he struggled in their first postseason trip and walked into AJ inches office afterwards with tears in his eyes feeling like he was the reason they lost vowed never to have that feeling again you know what makes him so special because he doesn't he's not the perfect analytical player like there's some things that he does that let's just ball to center field it'll be Knicks or jobs since what he does is he expands his own to much he swings and at a lot of pitches doesn't take as much but his end results become so more important than all the other stuff that I just mentioned he's the reason why they signed him to a long contract and he is everything to the eastern Astros [Applause] five years 150 million to the 2024 season legitimate superstar both these rosters dotted with them to God here's Brantley and since that Iraqi third ad Masahiro Tanaka has settled in he has huge inning this might be his last but it's an important five innings that he was able to get in he was at the brink of being knocked out of the game and of course that just meant more innings for the Yankees now they're in a position to keep the game close and not let it get any further away by bringing in Chad green at any point of trouble [Applause] we're opportunity for Tanaka to see a lineup the third time he had faced a hitter a third time just once over his first two postseason spots [Applause] Oh mother no to Brantley's got him right where he wants him hey budget now Oh - I think all three at-bats so far he flew up on a 3-2 count of my memories correct and then got a base hit on a note to count got to keep things alive in the fifth for Bregman he walked I'm sorry and then got a base it [Applause] point is he's not chasing much making life tough on synoptic going up with a fastball at least that's what Sanchez wanted them to think and then he dropped it low - and - see the reason you're doing that if you're Sanchez you're Leary and a little concerned that certain things might be getting to Brantley or they're picking something up so you want to create an an illusion that you're going fastball up and you give them a false read if the relay is anything [Applause] she had them right where he wanted yeah [Applause] two gone fifth inning time is called this could be Tanaka's last pitched I believe chat green will come in for breakfast that's Larry Rothschild on the phone as a three to five saw is on first at four [Applause] [Applause] [Music] another payoff in the air - right sending judge he lays out and throws it in for his defense has been so good in this postseason it's a 3-1 getting we are halfway home in game 4 [Music] LCS on fs1 is presented by Geico 15 minutes could save the 15% or more on car insurance it is sponsored by steel of a steal a taco only at Taco Bell by hunt cook tire chase down your passion never halfway to this one sponsored by Budweiser it was pouring rain yesterday was a good decision to call that game early there was no shop that it would be played but a perfect host seized at night here in the Bronx Gregorius leads off v against anybody and takes judge just made a very very difficult play look a little more routine than it was because that was a great catch the wind the ball slicing away from him this man in place right field under the circumstances with the wind swirling and the exit velocity off the back watch at the end this ball is gonna change directions right there and his big frame and athleticism gets over there and catches it and you can see boonie talking about how that ball and judge was like man helps me in 6-7 those long strides cover the ground make the play two balls one strike out Gregorius who's the last Yankee to reach again Zach Rainey singled back in the second he's since retired eight straight this crowd has been unbelievable they're down three to one you can just tell they're trying their best to get the Yankees going offensively creates some kind of action on the basis - first for Guria computes cranky calmly for the first out of the fifth authentic on field caps tees jerseys hoodies and more he can get all your league championship series gears suit up with your team the official source MLB shop calm all right so now the Yankees about to get their third look at Zack Greinke the DJ LeMahieu coming up hold for one tonight may who finished second the American League daddy raised speed on the White Sox Tim Anderson already got a batting title under his belt Colorado a few years back what a pickup this guy's been they got him without a clear spot basically it was like okay sounds like he's not a gala day and even Brian Cashman had to be talked into it it's probably their mvt he's just so unassuming in place a couple different positions well and just flat-out hit some I'm so glad the narrative won't be well that's just Colorado you know Alan hits in Colorado he went to Yankee Stadium the power went up his average is right there had a chance there for a while to we batting champion in both leagues nicknamed the Machine Explorer to plays with an edge - I mean he never changes his facial expression but his brian cashman the guy that brought him in here booth would tell you that DJ LeMahieu even though you might not be able to tell on the surface wants to rip your heart out when he's playing just all shops and the interviews first one for the yankees since the second that's what he does as well as anybody in baseball uses the whole field with line drive telling you might be of the minority this is going to start coming more and more in baseball you're gonna see these hitters be rewarded for the fact that they put the ball in play not just strictly power strikeout walks but can actually handle the bat and create some problems for the opposing pitcher you can't pit the e never shift them you can to your point he's been so vital for the New York Yankees and he's changed their lineup Yankee Stadium crowd sensing another opportunity waiting to explore with Aaron judge coming up representing the tying run two things when a crowd like this at home hopes to accomplish rattle the pitcher but don't get your hitter too excited where he's trying to hit at 7,000 feet right stay within their game at the plate rattle the pitcher so that his mind and his focus gets a little scattered but good luck doing that two veteran guys because they have been through this quite a bit and I would say that Greinke falls under that cat pitching coach Brent Strom comes out to visit let's check in with Tom Verducci Oh Prince drama I think has to be satisfied with the way zack greinke got the wheels back on because the plan was more fast balls inside he's done that changeup really hasn't been in play as much as the slider tonight guys the big strikeout was right here Gary Sanchez and that got them back on track and the slider has been his go-to pitch since then think about that first inning the bullpen was hot Bret peacock was up in the bullpen four pitch walk to Gardner and it was that slider to Sanchez that got cranking out of trouble during the first inning his average about a dozen since his one of the earring judge drifts incentive back soon how many times do you see it a guy makes a great defensive play and he's up second in the inning do you know what they say [Applause] the glove mighta cost in the strike that balls no strikes on Jeff definitely cost in the strike cuz that was right down the middle yeah Ryan Presley warming [Applause] I asked you during the first inning if you'd give Brett Gardner a 3o green light he said no not with you this man here right oh absolutely the greenness of green lights I took it three and one and he should and anything spinning like that in the lower half of the zone he only gonna look belt high and fastball if you ever get the green light that's what the best of the best do they don't again try to do too much fifty-two home runs as a rookie in 2017 27 home runs each of the last two years injury shorten seasons injury interrupted seasons [Applause] one of the great superstars in the game right now Aaron a judge [Applause] write it on a 3:1 for exact cranky [Applause] that's what's great about our game - the more likeable and superstars are the opposite spectrum in height size and a position will have to bei and judge represent our game my I think as great as anyone can from anyone can play [Applause] [Applause] three two - do it again I think the 3-2 pitch which is an interesting discussion four teams on I know and they look back on the year and how do they do they win the 3-2 battles or losing 3-2 battles it's probably the most unpredictable pitch it should be the most unpredictable pitch for information of what a guy's going to throw because leading up to that you get more predictability of what guys do this is the unknown factor here comes another judge fouls it off we'll do it once more [Music] [Applause] a coming to judge who's had a good policies if you combined the great defenses played the on-base percentage is live a little more pop out of it just one extra base hit so far in October [Applause] now the main who at first one gone fifth inning and another three two from Zack Greinke Erin judge takes back four [Applause] so that is going to do it for Greinke Astros first into the bullpen here in Game four so pops the control Geico continue to partner provide a fun and unique ballpark experience for servicemembers and their family so that is a Sean Hayes and her family 2019 ALCS presented by Geico they are guests here today we all thank her for her dedication and her service Nick's coming to the plate is that drinkies day comes to an end four and a third the book not yet close the runners at first and second his responsibility and Ryan Presley John was one of the most trusted relievers in baseball from the time they acquired him at the deadline last year to about late August this season but he's developed it a little bit of a concern lately well as neem trying to come back from that it would almost appear that he's just going to face Hicks here with Torres the bullpens still hot for the Astros two on one out Greinke out bullpen goes to work and it stops ball line now cross up right there tough situation to come into they're gonna try to get on the same page this is not supposed to be a fast ball and so now they're gonna have to burn a meeting at the mound as Surenos hand is probably a little on fire because he caught it such an awkward way anticipating what probably was supposed to be a breaking ball got James or me [Music] now Presley Game one retired the first two that he faced then gave him four consecutive singles in a game to give up the sink over the only bandit that he faced didn't pitch game three so that a few days off Hinch open that he can rediscover his early season for point is it all stop to visit slot for Houston 100 hits we haven't seen that number this low this early so [Applause] a visit to make a pitching change you don't get docked a visit just within any visit after a pinch-hitter you also don't get doctor visit when he reached zero you can't make any visits without making a change now this shouldn't come into play but when you're warming up in the bullpen you're going a different direction into the wind that when you come into the mound right on the field and sometimes you know for a guy with his kind of breaking ball a breaking ball again it may mean nothing but you're not throwing in the same direction in the bullpen when a windy game and a windy day like today sometimes that could mean the difference of a guy coming out of the pen relying on a pitch like that [Applause] on a tulip its pics takes us right till one remove the Yankees made trying to shake some life into this offense is putting Aaron Hicks into this three spot the big spot finding him here scored just three runs over the last two games had not been without their opportunities but have gone for 423 with runners in scoring position this the team that was the best in baseball during the regular season in those situations so two and again notice could come down because those numbers take into effect everybody they're facing not just in this series some elite pitches and power pitching so you figure those numbers are going to be altered because of the Astro strength of their starting pitcher [Applause] Tainan aboard for the Yankees here in the fifth the two tunics it takes it law but away his track pitches and his few games back has been remarkable for a guy who hasn't seen any live bitching in two months yeah and again taking that pitch right there you know the high probability of breaking balls on Presley is pretty good so still you got to make sure that you're are seeing that pitch correctly because if that's fastball he's dude that's out young so now again three to kind of neutral count [Applause] than the Beast at most counts [Applause] [Applause] first city hits for the pea Tim in the basis [Applause] they are loaded for the kid that loves these spots flavor Torres and a 3-1 game climbs [Applause] and it appears AJ Hinch will leave Presley into Faison said he's been preparing his whole life for these moments when he was 12 years old Scouts told his dad your kid acts like a 16 year old plays like a 16 year old [Applause] and as best in the biggest moments trying to do it again here box is the first one foul aggressive early controlled late that's the approach he takes looking to do damage early higher late kick at times two strikes battle fall off the pitchers pinched until he gets one he likes trust his hands there's the lake kick when the first pitch comes in there and he's looking at just he got fooled because the pitch was better than he anticipated [Applause] ball one strike [Applause] may you single judge and expertise [Applause] so with one gone here in the fifth it's on the shoulders of the 22 year old all-star Glaber Tourette's the guy they want it to be out she sweats when it's one and two he's wondering when that fastball he throws it 97 and above at times and he's been spinning those breaking balls and let fastball Gold tremendous backspin to that pitch I almost think he could do that again I mean he's known for that power breaking ball and we saw a bunch of of the Hicks [Applause] pitches up to Torres a little bit of his weakness pitches down he crushes [Applause] Presley's one two [Applause] to an off-speed pitch broke it in there and Torrez stayed alive [Music] Inc is stranded 16 [Music] and the games two and three losses stranded four so far tonight looting the bases loaded in the first where they settled for just one [Applause] another one to Torres another off-speed pitch yeah right I mean Nate babe he's going with his strength but I think once you see the fastball swing up in the zone it's a spot you can go to think you can repeat that pitch what makes him tough he's filed off one two or three pitchers pitches already [Applause] this poor guy [Applause] [Laughter] he's been through it already this time of year is the best bases-loaded one gone fifth inning another one to Suarez tries to layoff and he's out number two mark Carlson the first base umpire says that he offered and a huge strikeout for Presley it is a huge strikeout did look like he went down over the middle of the plate let's watch the barrel the bat crossed the front out of home plate just enough and a good call from mark Carlson [Applause] Betty's going right back into it because trust seeing the Astros is not out of the woods yet I think he's just scared because he's got that Jersey on in this ballpark Encarnacion when the bases loaded strike one Edwin walked and struck out as one for his last 19 do on we got Torinos for the backswing sure did sure eNOS is doing a lot of moving around on those breaking balls because he's thrown those breaking balls inside the right-handed you don't see it very often look how he's moving and the backswing catches his back side of his shoulder you don't think that hurts it doesn't look like that's the bat is going in at any kind of speed it is and that's a lot of weight being released trainer Jeremiah Randall out take a look Adam I mean luckily it's not his obvious throwing the shoulder but it's nonetheless it's it hurts see how much movement he he goes to get that that breaking ball that ends up on the inner half that hurts all hurt as much if they get out of it you got that right ahead of Encarnacion nothing in tool [Applause] with a fastball fouled it back and it stays it on - with Adam loaded with a cleanup man up Torres strikes out and I'll know it - whole foreign car nación [Applause] thirty six-year-old in his 15 big league season trying to come through in the fifth ball and miss it spot badly almost from the strike zone I just I'm I'm trying to figure out Chirinos and why so much movement and track at the ball look where he set up and then look how much movement he's making there's no way to present that in the strike zone so a little errant characteristically in how active he's trying to be behind the plate you don't see that side to side action too often that is not going to be on the next framing instructional video [Applause] to another one soon [Music] and I think what he's trying to do because with all the traffic on the base is seeing the signs and the sequence is trying to move late to not give anyone the ability to give location when I say give location when you get location typically you can eliminate one or two pitches based on where you sets up [Applause] this is loaded fifth inning Yankees in a 3-1 home run in the series 2 games to 1 another 1 2 pitch Shannon come co strikes ball Presley gets out of the jam and the Astros stay in front 3 1 [Music] [Music] part of the Astros order here in the sixth is Alex Bregman takes ball one from Tanaka it remains 3-1 as Ryan Presley gets back-to-back games of the forum five hitters first toys and then that man Encarnacion but leave the bases loaded that is becoming a big story in this series for the Yankees now old for their last 11 with runners in scoring position yeah and in this ballpark that stress is doubly tough on the starting or any kind of pitcher in here right so that's usually when they cash in crowd was going crazy and the right guys at the plate big pitches to help imagine Aaron Boone's is going batter two batter for Tanaka he's given up five innings that's been great that's what they usually expect gave him six innings in Game one and he's really held the Astros to just the one mistake three-run homer kept it right there I said the third from George Springer a - all right man so spin off the into the back of a maybe can hand off dopinder six wait till you see how much spin it's going to look like that his TV that he just flat-out booted that I'm gonna tell you right now the air is going to go down to him but that error should go to that ball because it was right off the end of the bat it is spinning so much watch it hop up and change direction and there was no way you can anticipate that hop going to his knee away from his glove it's like the filthiest ping pong serve ever so Tanaka's night comes going down and you will bring on chad green with the leadoff man aboard here in the six the postseason is anything but predictable and this serie fans across the country predicted how october would unfold on the MLB postseason bracket challenge presented by MGM Resorts $250,000 on the line less than 3,000 brackets remain perfect Green comes out for darielle how good is chat green been for the anchors he's been so good that he mainly can rely on that fastball that seems to be invisible when he throws it because it has such late life he's mixed in a few more sliders than normal Meriel down the line his his tough luck continues continues the bang line drives all over the place but still searching for his second hit of this year it really is amazing and this is as close as it going to get right just not much room down the line he hits it and the ball jumps off his bat that was that slider first pitch like green I know it seems like three days since Kol pitched here but in the very first inning bases first and second nobody out the Yankees had a chance to change that game and they didn't they went on to loose bases-loaded one run already in the first inning had a chance to change this game and then again bases loaded one out with a chance to at least get a run sac-fly or something other than a strikeout strikeout clubs electro-pop sit on the Enfield [Applause] goriias planning that mound now beaneasy play makes it one away we've talked about right in this postseason environment where there are fewer scoring opportunities fewer runs scored putting it in play becomes that much more important it really does I don't coming into this game this teams both were tied and strikeouts in this series but if you go on who has struck out the least in the regular season they Astros have there that one of the best and we'll see how this series shakes out but putting it in play still wins out each of the two world champions Red Sox last year the Astros two years ago yes they hit for a top they're also the leaders in baseball avoidance breakouts when I first walked on the hitter zero delvar s still looking for his first hit of this series and I think that's what the topic during baseball was so confusing but the amount of homeruns the read is that accurate you know is that who that player is going to be you know when you talk about career highs team career high setting records it doesn't happen that frequently in the postseason even though stylistically that's what the game is being played at that's the fastest way to get a run a home run and so home runs up all over the place are going to be up percentage-wise but it's just harder in the postseason when you run into some studs and some guys that can go at you you know three and four times in a game and a ball that doesn't seem to be flying quite as well yeah weather could have something to do with that a little bit Alvarez finally gets his first to to this series it's a single to center and moves Backman to third [Music] so first and third one gone is the Astros trying to add on to this 3-1 lead in the six then up comes Carlos Correa well we'll see if that contact comes into play right here for Korea [Applause] [Applause] former first overall draft pick right in the middle of those three consecutive 106 loss seasons for Houston look that is one of the saviors of the franchise debut language 21 Rookie of the Year in that 2015 season all-star 2017 at the age of 22 for the injuries have become the bigger story since then [Applause] thanks this bottom left that sends dr. day let's go [Applause] for Carlos Correia and the Astros have broken it open here in the 6th of game 4 [Music] [Applause] walk-off home run to win Game two and a three-run home run here in the sixth of game four that makes it 6-1 Houston [Music] [Applause] great approach great result got a fastball up got it in the air to the one part of the ballpark where it goes Chirinos who's been on the field he has provided consistent reminders of the special talent that he is his miss more than 50 games three seasons in a row is the back last year back this season along with a fractured rib he thought before that walk-off home run on Saturday earlier that day he finally started to recapture the feeling the timing of his swing which is going to be hard to have consistently when you miss that much time it is and you know for his personal frustration of course some injuries the last couple years kept him from becoming the shortstop he wants to become totally and of course both he and Springer unlike how to VAE and bregman have a contract that has not been signed and they haven't been extended probably then the park extent both right so a lot to prove and lot to still get done [Music] [Applause] one or two on Chirinos well this are a typical game the Yankees no they're not out of it I mean they've come back several times and the Astros have to eat up another four innings with their relief so Aaron Boone knows his team has the firepower ease is hoping something can click and get momentum one benefit they have is that they've got the starter out of the game but the Astros bullpen quietly the last few games has started to look really really good seven innings over the last two-plus games they've given up just one run they got a sneaky bullpen that if doesn't get exposed too often because of their starting pitching [Music] the gifts AJ hints the luxury to not have to burn many of those guys out still just want gone history knows weights out there's two to four green okay so very rare feat I don't anticipate it happens a lot in playoff games so that's 2 3 run homers in the same game coming into this postseason I believe somewhere on the neighborhood of 46 homers we're solos somewhere there and very few do you get the opportunity for two 3-run homers in the same game skyhigh pop and DJ LeMahieu puts it away - god so for Carlos Correa he's now three for 15 in this championship series two of the three hits have been home runs you saw they were trying to go in to tie him off right down central and he knew it soon as it left her back [Applause] a few minutes ago does an Astros fan looking like that attention on his rhetoric swings and misses with a pressure on the ash rose the bases loaded didn't just one out to get out of that Jam and they've out of the home run from Korea six one here in the six [Music] so you throwing the ball right there is obviously very difficult to hit if you're a hitter in HC 97 but when you try to go in and up the Miss rate usually is not great if you miss out over the plate because now you're already you're already expecting fastball you can just drop the barrel the bat right there that's the downside of trying to go inside to a guy who likes to ride the ball up with a fastball and you see more swings like that then you do off what per added [Applause] one two you got him swinging and that's that for the Astros in the six for the second three-run homer out of the night it was Springer in the third it is Correa here in the sixth the Astros already with a 2-1 series lead a big lead here in Game four as we go to the bottom of the 6-3 deep in a 6-1 Houston lead here in the bottom of the six Gardner Sanchez in her shell against Josh Jones riffles offense ball inside one and home young man's got a great arm and a good future for the Astros don't know if that will end up being a starting pitcher or not but at this point 98 97 26 year-old rookie date again but it misses two and sketched Robinson Chirinos giving him the Sun calm down easier said than done you can let it heat make him get on with hits if you're mr. James Bond Ron said I came in a basis over walk from Gardner back in the first he's ahead here three and on think he's trying to chip away down six one [Music] down to one in this series and looking to having to face Verlander tomorrow and eventually Cole again if they're so lucky [Music] [Applause] former top opens the six that's not what AJ wanted this week starts Saturday is strong with a big doing Saturday game of the week West Virginia Heisman candidate Jalen Hertz and Oklahoma question those Mountaineers all started with a big noon kickoff pregame show at 11:00 a.m. Eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports app I say Oklahoma Alabama so you got oh I'd like to see it I'm just saying I'd like to see great storyline uh-huh yeah hurts against his old team I'm in Sanchez ol4 to tonight takes fall on and that is five consecutive balls to start James Audi it won't be long before the phone rings in the bullpen and that's not be long before that comes out and just gets a little friendly reminder of what's going on here down to just one mound visit and again you can still make visits but they have to lead to a pitching change or follow the introduction of a pinch-hitter seven runs in Game one in that seven nothing win it made up for it on the poses and it was looking like who in the world is gonna stop the Yankees he figured that it would be a good series but that anybody saw this stretch of this little offense just four runs and two and a half games since I'd be one thing if they didn't have a lot of opportunities right if she just got shut down you could kind of deal with the kind of pitchers they might be facing with the Astros but they've had some of those pitchers on the ropes and just didn't get a chance to get a knockout and that's the difference in this series it really is that simple and the Astros have made the most they haven't exactly lit the statistical category offensively but they made the most of it seven runs over the first three games of the series for Houston 60 of the two three-run shots Michela the eighth hitter and Gregorius leadoff walk from Gardner now a to Odagiri Sanchez for missing from Sanchez when Sanchez is just missing the fastball like he did a few times I mean he was on some fast balls that you go when you're right you're seeing it you're getting your foot down and you got the timing right he's smashing those balls but unfortunately he's fouling them back and when he fouls those back he's missing the breaking balls off the plate trying to make something happen [Applause] a two-run home run in the keys back to a 10-6 story [Applause] the air movement talked about when he got the corn shoes about benching Gary Sanchez he always feels like he's one pitch away from fighting and that's what I'm saying with the fastball he's been real close he didn't miss this one he got a good hit up account and I'm telling you there's nobody better when he's locked in off the fastball when he's expanding the zone off the breaking ball then he gives the the pitcher too many ways to get him out and right now this lineup in this crowd told you they're not out of it too much firepower on this offense the momentum will pass the baton and I'm just telling you into postseason when you want somebody it feels like a huge rally and you left the team back in it when you give them a free pass [Music] for James who's perfect and warm enough food and Gangwon was the winning pitcher in Game two one of those key spots for the Yankee centered opportunity James struck out Gary Sanchez but he hasn't had it here in game Foreman that's the fastball he was almost getting to in that at-bat I was talking about and he got his revenge tonight tomorrow this is just a great honor that a guy who's kind of hampt up right now in James stay back on your slider will Harris the top armed as a bridge to Osuna there's never a great feeling when you're trying to emergency get ready [Applause] Chase is going off of the plate against the guy that is having a hard time finding it gives him out number one of the six but that's what he possesses if he can stay back on the slider it makes guys look foolish this is just textbook Gary Sanchez it's why as a catcher so difficult to get this kind of production from that position and so far we've had three home runs and they've all been the vector that is what I saw in batting practice that was the area of the ballpark where there was less resistance with the wind shirts Gregorius for the change-up come to think of it nothing really has happened in right field other than a couple catches by Judge Beauty 1 for 2 tydomin too [Applause] pop-up left side the shift down along where to go for the lawman he's got it to work [Music] hums LeMahieu reached two more times tonight continue what he did during the regular season here in his first postseason with the Yankees watch LeMay you used the velocity of James to his advantage by actually not over swinging with his approach using the power with the short stroke to the ball he might get fooled on a slider if he chooses to start them off with a slider here but the loss that he's not going to get you know for some guys they feel like old man I'm overmatched so I got to get started early if you get started early you start getting jump in and bit with your swing it's not a good it's not good against velocity takes away the stretched critical longer get there drops inside behind along to our signal but it actually bounced out of play and so it becomes a ground rule double so the Yankees catch a break because of May he was content with his single because it bounced into the Danny he did second another chance for the Yankees for the man in scoring position and two out there's the velocity good try to do too much but this time he gets it off the end of the bat when you can hit you get stuff like that set into the netting actually in his free hand and out judgment to God looks on here they are again John runner in scoring position - um yeah the two out ones you can understand when a team might struggle it's when you get less than two outs where you get an opportunity to do some things but Aaron judge doesn't pull too many homers if he's going to get a homer in this situation it'd be the right center off of this velocity I would think st. pitch but different call this time but it's one on one that's Aaron's argument he's right he's right and they've been closed on the corner but the verse one was called the ball the second one was called the strike comes in now for Aaron there's a little bit of doubt of which is it [Applause] that first game behind the plate in a championship series for the 41 year old Dan Bellino I read second to garner than a 1 1 pinch judge swings through a slider 1 & 2 that was nasty that was as good as a pitch you can throw off a 99 mile an hour fastball I don't care who's up there right there that is pretty filthy [Applause] [Applause] one to pick that was the one judge could have pulled in the air breaking ball he'll pull more fast ball up the middle right field got one right there James better make a better one if he wants that ball back we want a home run in the inning two-run home run for Gary Sanchez Dodgers Oh for two today wait sent another one - from James [Applause] ball two [Applause] now traces one down strike three inning over but the Yankees chip away with a 200p recent jazz after six at 6:30 Mary Sanchez in a 6-3 game into the seventh here in Game four Tommy kingly on the pitch there's some crooked numbers we've been waiting for for these two offenses yeah pretty quiet until this game can they give up a run in his first game of the postseason game one of the division series but nothing in four games since for the top of the order delivers strike one to Springer high energy pitchers Cain Lee with the fastball occasional slider he just saw rarer more of a powerful changeup that he relies on you got to be careful with those obviously you don't know picture once they were thrilled near a guy's head but you also got to realize what kind of Arsenal the Astros have with fast balls at 99 98 you mean you better not give them one that's too juicy or you mean use it to make them a little bit uncomfortable no you want to pitch in but you never want to make mistakes and hit hitters when you got some guys on the other side the grind oh yeah let's see what you say throw a hundred now these two guys providing the three on home runs in this game it was Springer in the third of his Correia in the six got five hits total in this series for them home run guard in the seventh Jose Altuve to the plate and our player resume sponsored by Indy 371 in this postseason those four home runs lead all players in October 12 home runs came into the game that was tied with George Springer for the most in Astros history now one behind him such an exciting player could do so many things that was only the third strikeout for the Houston offense and nine by the Yankees offense as a matter of fact Tanaka even though he was really good did not have many swing and miss pitches five of them and green was only in there for a little time unfortunately he did give up the three run homer but he had five or more swings amidst misses and his short appearance against this Astros team the fastball up and in one on one Yussef coming into this series you thought the team that struck out blasts would win the series coming into the game it was even 3030 yeah I still maintain over a long series short series whatever you can get away with a short series about some of those numbers not adding up in a team win but I think when you've got these two quality teams and they're that good at what they do that usually the team that strikes out the most now most people say the team that hit the most homeruns is going to win [Applause] but but I'm Samir's proven you got to do both yes I argue that statistically if you're just really really good at hitting homeruns which the Yankees are and they were number two in all the baseball but if you strike out a lot it kind of washes itself out a little bit especially at this time of the year and then contact with runners on is so important but two to Altuve is lifted foul you have to go back to 2004 sit this like a broken record but the Boston Red Sox I believe in 2004 was the highest team to win a World Series in the strikeout Department all those years in between it's hard to find teams that are in the top five top six top ten in striking out the most and go on to whittle World Series [Applause] as shows this season the first team to m'angil in history with the lowest strikeout percentage and the highest walk percentage and I would probably venture to say the gap between their strikeouts of hitters and strikeouts by pitchers has got to be the biggest gap in all of baseball so think about that gap of what they can do from an offense aside and what they can do from a defensive side or pitching side and limit the outs - it's a swatter - right right a judge [Applause] [Music] YouTube TV try it free two gone here in the seventh there need an upcoming as Michael Brantley fits right into that Astros mold of put the ball in play 11 season first one with Houston through his decade of his career with Cleveland in the last six years number one in the Badgers is Jose Altuve and batting average number two in the majors in batting averages this guy the Astros have done a great jobs app since 2014 changing the mindset of strikeouts to that since 2015 right add it guys like McCann and Beltran and there championship season not it added Brantley valuing put in the wall employ can they looking to go on to three against the top of the order Brantley's bent behind - OH - seems like every time tonight I just found a way to get on her hit it hard Oh - sitting in a rocking chair to be hurt by anything some guys go to the plate ants Oh - and they haven't even seen a pitch that's the feeling they have like I better swing is played by the Mayhew that will extend to catch it and finish off a 1-2-3 inning we stretch in a 6-3 game Game four at New York [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] on a fare of three rounds the Astros have a 6-3 lead here in Game four trying to extend their series lead to three one three four and five coming up for the Yankees Hicks Torres and Encarnacion against the best reliever the Astros have outside of Osuna in the ninth inning it is will Harris crucial part of the game of course AJ would love to get some quick outs here and turn it over to his closer from this point I would think but the Yankees again a heart beat a few batters on base foods runners on base and next thing you know so it's Hicks delete it off [Applause] starting with a breaking pitch to the top of the zone strike one Knicks making the starter than three spots a tie only his third game since the beginning of August he's going to hit and a walk [Applause] takes it low one and one he's done a really nice job against the pits that is not his friend by leaving it alone when it ends up out of the strike zone [Music] [Applause] Harris - Hicks walk pitch just misses and Robinson Chirinos take a look back to Dan Bellino saying where in the world was that [Applause] looks like it caught part of the plate [Applause] they're zeroes everything with some kind of spin whether it's cut spin on his fastball or that overhead overhand breaking ball that the Astros have just become so famous for Bret Strom and his ability and the technology they have so you're not really seeing anything straight yeah spin will create an illusion and of course the hitters trying to barrel that ball and what he thinks is going to be in one place and then it comes off the barrel when it moves hey strike three called as you get something straight and takes it for the first out of the seventh I used to laugh every time Maddux would throw a bullpen I know it was just something he would say all right I'm not throwing straight like you've never thrown one straight in your life [Music] it's like Mariano Rivera alright my throwing straight now you can Torres with one out the base is empty [Applause] lipset foul yeah he's been so good at the big situations and he's been praised for that but tonight he was right in the middle of those failed opportunities with the bases-loaded opted out in the first inning struck out in the fifth [Applause] here no one from will heresy swings through it Owen - that's where you get them right I mean good luck trying to throw three in a row by most pitchers standards they'll get a sheet of information go yeah you got a throw right here kid okay I don't have that capability to do that three times that's why tourists winds out well that at bat he struck out they threw breaking ball to break off the breaking ball and finally went below the zone they couldn't hold up [Music] it's part of vino hey strike three called and another fastball Samba that he's got any two the first two Yankees here in the south the post-season captivates us with its dramatic moments in the MLB at bat app has them all it's the one place to get everything for your favorite teams chase to the pennant highlights pitch tracking much more to download MLB at bat today front door cutting fastball you can't see it really as well as it would be if you're at the plate that pitch is starting in and then late cutting action catches the part of the zone that you didn't think it was going to move to and caught him looking six of the last seven Yankees outs at bat strikeouts at karna co no for two tonight two strikeouts one for 14 in this series with eight strikeouts and it's where those strikeouts have come right runners on that just have been crucial change you just game changers if something happens like a blue anything I've often said I know it's not that easy right I'm never gonna sit up here even as a next pitcher to say well just why can't you cut down on your swing why can't you do this it's not that easy but the ability to make contact sometimes they'll loop the ball even if you hit it back to the pitcher there's no guarantee it's a hundred percent out but if you swing and miss on strike three it's a hundred percent but it's never driven in a row and so that over 162 games is not as big a deal because this lineup along with Houston's along with maybe you in Minnesota they were going to help slug most teams there were and then there's the uniqueness and the I love best of seven I love playoff baseball because these kind of things come to light bouncing ball to third easy play Bregman will Harris one two or three seven no promises now by Bank of America what would you like the power to do back here in New York got a couple of three-run home runs the Astros have a 6-3 lead as we go to the eighth adamah de vino is booed off of the mound and Game three he was booed when his introduced getting ready to pitch here in game before 10 of the 16 batters that he's faced here in October have reached yeah he had a few batters in the Minnesota series that he was kind of designated to face and I don't know if he got out of rhythm just facing the one guy because typically that's not what he did in the regular season but the one guy he had to face in this series hadn't worked out very well and you mentioned that home run that was hit game two and then here in Game three not the results of one misses for the cider - Bradman that spent one of the big issues for ms landing that finish it's a foul here in a 22 so here's how he got here Yankees led this game one nothing and a bases-loaded walk from Brett Gardner but then a three-run home run from Springer in the third and a three-run home run from Korea in the six more missed opportunities for the Yankees tonight for 426 in this series with runners in scoring position they've stranded 31 I want to defragment outside 2 & 2 Joe Davis John Smoltz on the field tonight Tom Verducci and Ken Rosenthal lovino against the heart of the astros Lynam to to pitch back but inked inside the bag the fair ball into left for Bregman on his way to second Gartner trolls in throws away that is a leadoff double for max Bergman [Applause] and once again he tried to sweep this slacker he starts it in and it goes right down the middle see how he throws it in he throws across his body and the ones that are really good or the ones that sweep from in the middle of the plate away we worked on a release point to create movement with his fastball that gives two different again planes that the hitter has to worry about and unfortunately he just hasn't been connected with that pitch that has been so good for the Yankees all year opponents hit 154 against it during the regular season here's Gary al well it's a unique way he throws it and again to each their own scientifically when you're on the first base side of the rubber which he is he has to start throwing towards the right-handed hitter to create the sweep away if you're on the third base side of the rubber you have the angles that work for you but for him this is what has always worked and creates an illusion that the hitter doesn't see well first year of a three-year contract 27 million dollars to a guy who is born in Manhattan grew up in Brooklyn dreaming of pitching for the Yankees [Music] and it was awesome in a 190 er a top five in the American League but what a Yankees fans remember what they care about is what happens once the talent calendar flips to October and that's where unfortunately perception sometimes becomes reality and it's not exactly accurate but this time of the year does bring about more attention to a two on Guri al I firmly believe if he had a different fastball let's say a four seamer it might change where he throws from because he throws that comeback sinker think about the action that he has on both sides of the plate created a pitching lab when he got here almost you know you can tell obsessed with being as nasty as you could be and grilling was up until recently a grounded person and stretched by the Mayhew Bregman will throw the brakes with nobody out [Applause] put it in play right yeah not really that's going to be a base hit that was another nasty hop they're gonna give an error I guess yeah it probably see how I take another bad spin take it back that was going to be an error that is the second one I DJ LeMahieu here comes in and boom who's sending that amount of vino to the dugout 6:3 Houston threatening for more here in the eighth it's Alvarez the throw nur's at the corners and nobody out Astros in front 6 3 and CC Sabathia on the pinch super tough spot here for CC of course he's announced this is his last year but he worried about that right now he's trying to get a big out starts it was strike one they SWAT batter in game two and what was his third career relief appearance second one in the postseason made one in 2011 in the division series after they left him off for the Division Series roster because of his shoulder problem here is the championship series a little surprise in a 6 to 3 game not that he's in but that there's no action in the Yankees bullpen which obviously tells you that it's CeCe's to finish the rest of the game or at leopard the rest of the city [Applause] 1 & 2 there are Buddha's had walked that line of managing to win today while at the same time giving himself a shot moving forward but alas today is going to make it quite an uphill climb it can't come from behind it's grounded a second off Torres the score and everybody's safe [Applause] it's seven three Houston well Taurus is gonna realize when he read watches this is he had to play at first in his frustration to not get the runner at home watch this slot watch this replay he's got him at home right and then he just looks back at home before trying to get the out at first and unfortunately gets none of it infield in now if he goes to first it's an easy out but he looks home thinking there's a chance to go home which there wouldn't have been say unfortunate Yankees have not made plays here to help the cause back-to-back airs in three total tonight for New York two on nobody out Correa already has a three-run home run tonight takes ball one in the dirt [Music] bought on a strike and here's Tom well a great piece of hitting begins with a great approach watch the practice swings of Carlos Correia keeping his hands above the imaginary baseball at finishing low and flat why Chad green is on the mound with it high velocity high spin upper tank fastball and that's the same swing he prepared for that fastball Chad green is built on getting hitters to swing underneath it and the only way you can get on top of that pitch is if you're prepared for it with the swing we just saw from Carlos Correa and guys have reminds me of how he beat our oldish Chapman in the 2017 ALCS same situation he said I think about hitting the top of the baseball to wind up hitting the middle of the baseball an American League Championship Series and it's a great and really a great approach to high velocity fast balls everyone thinks and kind of falls in love with the uppercut launch dangles swing that's line to right judge comes on makes the catch throw back his second drop by Gregorius it was going to be close yeah because it's gonna look like swimming in the dirt because he couldn't get back to the bag and it just seems like slow motion he goes the right judge with a great arm comes in closing and just closes I mean DD's trying to be a first baseman at this point stretches and can't get the ball in the glove we're geureon is like trying to get the second base that just couldn't do it they're talking of early on in the game about the defense being so good taking hits hits away the defensive position in that story has turned greatly being a story of taking hits away to given the Astros base runners three ears over the last few innings yeah this inning should be over but should of what a cuttest don't add up to much the CC isn't able to bail them out here and get at least another out or two - Oliphant gone for the captured Torino shoot trucks it filed in fairness to LeMay you those are two nasty hops like it's gonna look bad when you see two errors but if you really watch the two balls that were hit to them with the most Awkward of spin you can kind of understand why it handcuffed them all Taurus is kind of a do-or-die kind of come in get the right short hop but you could see that he was looking up to see where the third base runner was before he fielded the ball with the infield kind of halfway so this inning has not it's still manageable for the Yankees but it has not gone clean at all Karina and Suez sit on the left shoulder by a backswing law he was catching earlier just got drilled with this finish to load the bases oh right off the elbow I didn't one one bit funny huh and now quick words from Chevrolet the chevy youth baseball it's local chevy dealers giving back because we're not just the official vehicle of Major League Baseball we're empowering the next generation of major league cultures I don't want guy that's sitting in a dugout hope that he's okay tomorrow they got a good thing going they sure do and he is going to have one stiff left side of his body between the shoulder that got hit with the bat and that elbow that still probably doesn't have much feeling in his hand talk live in those catchers man but miss Diaz pitch shitty for Josh Reddick and taking ball one [Music] he has played an important role form this season with some of the injury issues they've had particularly with Korea in short with a to bay at second overall star with the Cardinals [Music] bottle one I'll pitch the Aztecs and he can look hideous we can provide some offense hold on you know if this game doesn't go the way the Yankees hopes that you start start thinking about how do you change the narrative in a series that you're down three to one and you change that narrative by beating one of the best pitchers in the game tomorrow and that's how it's gonna have to start if they can't come back in this game and rally which by the way if they did would would set in this place into a frenzy 2 2 pitch diaz pops it up backing up his tears he stumbles out of the way as judge comes all the way out to catch it for out number 2 the big out for Sabathia [Applause] t-mobile is introduced in its newest most powerful signal ever no signal goes further no signal more reliable whether you're home or away t-mobile is with you so these flies out his pinch-hit appearance sim with the bases loaded to be George Springer couple base runners because of airs neutrino support because he was hit Artie run in the banquette is sitting the bases loaded and they've got just one hit [Music] [Applause] see she still knows how to get it done it once was so dominating there once look like a left-handed Verlander right with the velocity of the stuff and the I'm going nine your chance this is his final appearance in the inky Stadium if the Yankees can't turn this thing around rally in this series News announces retirement I want to go check on possibly his knee or possibly something that didn't feel right maybe it's his shoulder Steve Donahue the first man out there and you'd hate to see this be the way he walks off with a diamond for the final time here or just a craft or something [Applause] so [Music] it's too bad [Applause] just heartbreaking enough he walks off the mound and off of the field in pain serious respect coming from the other side George Springer here at Cole yeah it's tough you know I mean the guys of these battles incredible career you can tell the crowd was trying to give them one more adrenaline rush of a cheer to possibly in that warm-up pitch get through but he just couldn't do it so Jonathan Eliza comes into the game and inherits a two-on-one count on Springer this guy's got some nasty stuff in his own right bases-loaded eight Danny - went to for quite a shift in the stuff you're going to be seeing if you're Springer high-handedness and velocity [Applause] a tutu he strikes out on a fastball at 99 to NBA the Astros take advantage of some sloppy defense to add 1 7 3 to the bottom of the 8th [Music] oh it's super six out for chance play along at home and win cash prizes it'll be three one Astro certainly looks like it at this point order the Yankees have a rally left in them down seven three as we go to the bottom of the eighth the Joe Smith comes on to pitch Gartner do it through a walk Sanchez hit a homer got the crowd back in it see what they've got in store here in the eighth Gardner Sanchez or shemot coming up all wives ball one from Smith 35 years old in his 13th season he's got a couple of changes defensively behind it Marisnick into the game and Center that moves springer to right [Applause] [Music] one [Applause] [Applause] they throw that little frisbee right there that is so hard to pick up even though the left-handers have an advantage against sidearm pitchers when you can throw that tight looks like a rising just looks hard to pick up if you're at the plate and he throws that sinking fastball inside with movement injured is achilles during a workout in December the offseason and so did make his season debut until second half but it's been really good especially down the stretch got five big outs in Game two of this series delivers two-two let's whip it kilise lately with pitchers I mean the very unfortunate villain Betances injury after he worked his way all the way back hurting his Achilles after an out right Britain of course coming back from that I used to hear that [Music] or the Yankees have missed I just dealt Betances but do they go her bond that's a big one that is one of those when you leave camp you know to have a special year your great players have to be great normally they are but when you get some way above the expectancy performances there's there's such a bonus in such an advantage to that and it was taken away he flails at that one to strike three one gone in the eighth this is a right-hander won 18 games 17 games something like that that he won from the Yankees and he was just getting better and better and so no doubt this year was filled with pretty hankies they didn't make no excuses they didn't do anything other than plug another person in and go at it [Music] with one out here's Sanchez who had a two-run home run in the sixth inning for the moment brought him to within three but the Astros added one at the top of his eight that's inside one ball no strikes all three home runs tonight you mentioned them going similar direction to early similar the flight and where they landed wakfu to a now we'll Jetstream another the same exact spot [Music] now what would be amazing is if person got multiple homerun balls same guy as a strike two and one stat cast powered by AWS take a look at this see if the same guy catches them could be close 403 403 and 408 I think the same guy got him two and two [Music] if the Yankees are unable to overcome this deficit here and they go into tomorrow down 3-1 not looking good what right now are the lasting blessings and images of what has gone wrong for the a piece of the middle part of this series well the biggest thing is just opportunities gone awry and this is a team that feasts it off of it and that's why you know when you get to a game tomorrow whether it's - 2 or 3 - it doesn't matter - 2 or 3 1 doesn't matter the individual approach has to just have a little bit more attention to detail I mean you can't play tight can't play you just have to be able to do the thing that you are most naturally doing in the regular season and what I mean by that is the next man up right you just take the walk if you have to stay within yourself so that you don't you don't find yourself pressing and expanding the strike zone against great pitching strike three called on Sanchez and two gone in the 8th Kenny what stood out to you well going into this series we knew that unlike in 2017 they had to win one game at Minute Maid Park at least they did that then it turns out they have to be either Berlin or coal once they haven't done that and now to win this series they're gonna have to beat Verlander and Cole in this series to ultimately come back that's going to be really difficult to do yeah they're definitely going to have to battle because they know when they go to the plate they're facing one of the best in the game you know tonight which kind of favor if you want statistically favored the Yankees in the matchup the Yankees have struck out 13 times and down the line to the left he's hustling through sunken and he'll get there without a throw the Yankees struck out 13 times the Astro four times at an uncharacteristic play here by one of the best third basements it's going to be in the end of the line it looks like for Joe Smith that is ruled an Iran fragment and so back into the bullpen they go 7 3 game bottom of the [Music] it's pretty dark it can turn in a hurry so maybe the freely prelude to optimism new glass is half-full form yeah gotta pee Gregorius for those soon on the pinch a man and second two gone in the 8th the Astros have a 7-3 lean I'm in that class tomorrow talking about how many times we've won three in a row there's a lot of ways to change the mojo and change the attitude it does start with the starting pitcher the Yankees enemy James Paxton tomorrow against Verlander AJ Hinch not taking any chances for idli goes to his closer here with two gone in the eighth-inning I was this watching Osuna warm-up I've never seen anybody do it kind of like he did it I don't think you threw one pitch seventy percent maybe an ink comes out fired saving every bit of juice through October for the real thing Serna led the American League in saves during the regular season with 38 five outs of Game two a 1-2-3 ninth for the save and Game three he's tried to shut things down here at Game four Rochelle at second to Gondor glorious flips it off the other bandits black men with Rome and that does it for the Yankees in the 8th to the ninth we go the Astros in front 7/3 it is a v1 find an organization near you go to play ball Oregon follow and play ball on Twitter Facebook and Instagram Jose Altuve Explo on 7:3 game a couple big swings in this game for the Astros or Springer with a three-run shot in the third Korea with a three-run shot in the six crack bat left side under the glove of Torres who's gone from Aunt Linda now tube it is second that is the fourth air on the Yankees here in Game four and again I'm not so sure he'd have been able to throw out too good who gets down the line so fast puts a lot of pressure but watch this ball again not Briona he did watch it stay down right there see how the ball stayed down and he's anticipating that that is going to come up into a glove as he makes a one catch and throw motion to get out the speedy Altuve and that ball just did not come up and that's what speed can do to a defender when he's rushed two big events into second and here's Brantley all one you know the Yankees in Game one when team seven nothing that was the 14th time in postseason history that a team had won the first game and shutout fashion at least six nothing the 13 teams to do it before have gone 4 & 9 in those series I mean to go on to win the series or loser after winning by at least six nothing in Game one teams go on and our four nine in those series well Bradley is in trouble because he's got a 2o count on him Hey normally it's Owen too [Music] to all a strike to and wiseguy is nasty I know a zra might be a little high but I watch out for this young man next year nasty movement only thing I could see every once in a while it gets a little too lateral to home plate and doesn't stay back when he stays back he is tough miss stole out of the season with a shoulder strain native of Nicaragua the third Nicaraguan born pictured a pitch of the postseasons pretty good name is Vicente Padilla Dennis Martinez el presidente jonathan louise ooga two balls two strikes at Michael Brantley no to layoff second is the Liza good comes home see what I mean by that you know maybe even a young pitcher still watching this game when you leave the rubber you need to be centered over the rubber and use and he does it really well it's just at times he might leak too far too quickly to home and leave his backside and arm to not catch up other net my gosh kicks away from Sanchez and easily the third base goes out to live this is the first time the Yankees have committed four ears in a postseason game since 1976 I got a lot of games to choose from Brown Bradlee fights it off left center that will get down base hit to bring home Altuve being simple for Michael his second hit of the night and the Astros lead at 8/3 [Music] so an air a wild pitch and a nice piece of hitting from Brantley bring home another run [Music] got some debris on the field Bregman to stand in [Music] Alex Bregman 25 year old who made a really good case challenge Mike Trout for the MVP trotters she missed in the final few weeks of the regular season with the injury Bregman finished second to him out base percentage finished third of the majors in homers third of the majors in slugging he just keeps getting better he sure does and you know some people hear the fact they got the it factor on talking to AJ Hinch he's got the it factor they locked him up he wants to be this player he believes he's going to be this player and he believes he's the best player in the game if you don't have those beliefs but it's hard to do those kind of things and so there has to be some more weight in my opinion for a team depending on you to play every day and play multiple positions when some of your other players have been hurt and he did that he played shortstop walk parea was out he played third base and he played throughout the entire year there has to be some value that added to his case I mean injuries are part of the game that sometimes you're having a fantastic year and you can only project so much having said that my personal opinion I still think troughs couldn't win the MMP but I think you're right in the fact that that narrative he at least made it a conversation which was going to take a huge effort the season trout had absolutely [Music] better at first nobody out eight three Astros ninth inning is Bregman watches ball one think about the way he approaches the plate and he chokes up on the bat he's taken whatever it is a 33 answer 30 more likely 33 it's and turning it into almost a 29 inch and in seeing so disciplined to in sides mine outside yours and I'm gonna have so quick hands inside that's gonna make your head spin if you make a mistake in there although and he just does not punch Louis chase rate in baseball in 36 more walks than he did strikeouts this year that's impressive and you're not going to find many players who fall into that category maybe one most elite groups in baseball attitude to Pop's it foul he's always dreamt of being a big leaguer of course most kids do yeah grow up dreaming of being a pro athlete but Alex would tell you he never had a plan B that his Bar Mitzvah and Albuquerque when he was 11 he told the congregation that he wanted to lose his love for baseball to be a good example and make a difference he went to LSU's at all-americans second overall pick there [Music] he's turned into a superstar and as Astros fans know well he doesn't look at his job as just covering and playing nine innings he's very active in the community very active on social media really has become of a big brand within baseball comparison against Mike Trout doesn't do as much on social media and that comparison is a strong one still for trout to have those kind of numbers to play those few games less games than Bregman by versatility and dependability awesome here another two to look out that it's by Sanchez and its core position goes Brantley [Applause] that one's gonna be Sanchez so that ball rises up and in and the others have been really tough for Gary to make the claim that there automatically should be stopped Bregman had fallen behind Owen - he's worked at four now the ninth pitch of the at-bat is before so it doesn't he's been doing all season grinds the at-bat reaches on the walk first and second nobody out we look at our dynamic play of the game presented by hon cooked tire there's a few big plays few people pursue duties for the Yankees early bases loaded in the first inning they settled for one and Sanchez struck out then Presley comes on against the heart of the order he gets Torres in Encarnacion strikes kept in a tight game at that point kept him in front and they have pulled away late they really have all the things the Yankees did in the first series all the things that went grow the defensive plays the runners in scoring position that they swept the twins the Astros have kind of done that since Game one it made all the plays they've taken advantage of the 90 feet they've gotten and made the place and they've gotten the runs on on wild pizzas stain and run downs in order for honored they've done all the little things and we talked to AJ about some of what he might talk to his team before the postseason started and he said it's those kind of things that I talked to them about I let every other department deal with their expertise meaning I won't talk to the hitters that's the hitting coach and their approach and their game plan is their game plan but I want them to know we're going to take advantage of the things the other teams give us and to pay attention to those details no one on Guri al [Music] I think the biggest thing in in a wide gap in a lot of ways tonight in the performances of these two teams but the biggest thing goes back to the conversation about the strikeouts 13 of them for the Yankees just four for the Astros and it's what comes of that that has made the difference the Astros have ported in play forced the Yankees to make plays and several times tonight they've not that sloppiness has opened the door for this thing to get a little bit out of hand come zo2 but as we see with the Austin to Nationals have done when it turns it can turn and you can go on a roll down three nothing in the wild-card game down three what won against the Dodgers late comeback win that and then just steamroll with their pitching the Cardinals it's popped on the infield and fill fly rule in effect is Gregorius puts it away for the first out of the night let's go to Tom Verducci well Joe the Yankees knew coming into this series to go to the World Series they would have to win at least one of the four scheduled starts for Verlander and Cole they had a shot in Game two remember they played Verlander to a draw that became a bullpen game you think that favors the Yankees about this Houston bullpen five relievers that night pitched shutout fall they take that game and tonight Presley as you mentioned the two huge strikeouts and the Yankees doing are the extras doing damage against Chad green with the three-run homer by Correa Houston bullpen has done a heck of a job will pick up a second win if this holds up the a keys back to their bullpen down 8 3 here in the net new pitcher for the Yankees is Tyler Lyons Astros at first and second with what go on here in the night so mr. Alvarez who lit the league on fire you come into this postseason and this will be the 20th different pitcher he has faced that is crazy in game this will be game seven eight for him right five games series of a nine game nine 20 different pictures I'm good at math - wah wine I should have left that one for you that's an easy one one for for today had hit his first one of this series Lions trying to keep it right here Astros getting three runs in the sixth on the home run from Korea to make it 6-1 but they have at its single runs of the 8th and the 9th breathing room Lyons made the ALDS roster when CC Sabathia didn't because of the injury he's on the ALCS roster with them carrying 13 pitchers guy that they acquired in mid-august is absolutely probably fun most of the season in triple-a with the Pirates did Lions longtime Cardinal there's a stretch there azuz one of the best pitchers in the National League and of the bullpen 2017 really struggled last year landed on his feet here with the Yankees though two on one out to one well it's simple for the Yankees they come to the park packed ready to go to Houston and then hope they get to do it of course that is that they don't store at least six that's what you gotta do Verlander tomorrow the enqueues Riveter extended beyond that as el Perez goes around for our number two of the chance to be a bullpen game and being six and it got to a seventh of course Gerrit Cole there's the matchup for the Miele Verlander for the Astros Paxton no slouch for the Yankees yeah I couldn't believe just some of the questioning that was going on about the choices that AJ was making there no-brainer choices people I mean I guess it's everyone's right to question why would you do this or why would you do that are you kidding me I was drunk on Korea in terms of people asking well if you get a 3-1 leave you yeah save Verlander yeah that no I mean now you basically are going to do what you think is the best chance to end this series and win it and you got a guy on regular rest and then if you want to have coal on regular rest for Game seven you can do that right but finishing series are not as easy as one thinks so you've got to always put your foot down when you have the opportunity to put foot down and ended and that look for games that haven't been played yet now what ajm' said was hypothetical where you do move early in her back and stuff like punt Game five so they lose it there's strike three and you go to the game six you get a bad start you know first hit or so and suddenly the momentum has shifted your platelets we hope to put his foot down II hope so sudo can put his foot down in the ninth for the Astros up eight three [Music] kids my [Music] [Applause] [Music] we've covered both ends of the emotional spectrum coming back from break tonight the dismay of the Yankees their sloppiest performance this October the Astros an outburst offensively tonight scored seven runs over the first three games of the series they've got to eight here in Game four top of the order for the Yankees but a tall hill to climb here yeah it is and you know beauty of baseball is you get to go right back out at it tomorrow and make up for what you didn't do today strike on me you and if the Yankees are going to be relevant they're gonna need Chapman the pits in the next three games period he hasn't really been other than game two lifted to right routine from Springer and they use the first half of it [Applause] [Music] stay with us when this one finishes those guys can make it to the crowds live the fs1 postgame show for you top of the coach on a rod and Big Papi tonight JLo's coats nice - where's actually looks much softer than Alex's are in the big Papi's is judge first who chops it too short Corral two up two down in the ninth inning story tonight the offensive Albers for the Astros the Yankees perspective the sloppiness defensively and the missed opportunities offensively yeah absolutely and you know I can't get it out of your system it's over and find a way to play not perfect baseball but better baseball that you're used to and these fans are used to and force the issue you know force the team to keep playing the other team that is leading in series extended see what happens Dix with two gone strike one because here's the thing and again Tom touched on it they did have some pretty good at-bats against Justin Verlander Lander and Game five you're looking at probably facing a bullpen from the extras in group six you get to the 70s it's gear cold but you're not finished well what I want yeah you know I when you do 14 years in a row you pitch your share of elimination games yeah and what you basically can do and all you can do is do your part as a hitter as a pitcher you say not on my watch pass it on to the next guy get my next guy a chance and that's the same thing as a hitter when facing a great pitcher all right I'm gonna battle I'm gonna do everything I can here I just can't help but think and my heart goes out for CC Sabathia hopefully it's not as bad as it looks but it didn't look good and that you know here's a guy more than likely it looks like he gave everything he had did not end the way you want it to end for him Dick's down to their last strike is the one to come tall man misses loan in he's announces retirement so he knew that one of these outings here in October was going to be his last but fitting wave for him to finish would have been walking off to a standing ovation as opposed to walked off along the trainer that will not be the lasting image though that Yankees fans and baseball fan Santos FC know one of the more well respected in widely liked players this generation has seen or great work from the Astros bullpen tonight Osuna tried to finish it off he hesitates and fires he stays at 2 & 2 I remember coming out of the pen for st. Louis down two games to none three out of five series pretty much knowing that that was it came out pitched a couple innings and I could not I couldn't I had no saliva I could not believe how nervous and how much that moment got to me is like walking up to the mound having done that so many times and had to remind myself like no big deal let's just finish this off but you start playing in your head this is it you know this is full circle of an unbelievable career and that that certainly has to go through we're happy to go through C C's mind as he he embarked on it what he had hope and hopefully you know they can keep playing to it ends in an incredible way for [Applause] here's three two - Aaron Hicks takes a Mayan walks first baserunner they've had over the last few innings for the exception of the air that allowed her Shelly to reach but Harrison Smith and I was soon a really good out of that Astros bullpen [Music] Torres gets another opportunity for so far tonight right in the middle of things in those missed opportunities in the first inning in and the six are in the fifth high flyball down the line swingers over with the Astros tilt game for 8:30 to take control of this American League Championship Series now leading three games to one another one game away and facing the Washington Nationals who will be sitting watching as they clinched in four games and the Houston Astros Justin Verlander on the mound more likely looking to close it out if he has his way against James Paxton to the Yankees as the Astros ride a couple of three-run home runs tonight one from Springer one from Korea Greinke a bit of pitch around some traffic able to get out of the couple of jams really across the board for the Astros pitching tonight story was pitching out of those jams taking the opportunities the Yankees had and making sure nothing crossed [Applause] [Music] let's go down to Ken Rosenthal thanks Joe George Tanaka had six scoreless innings in Game one he only got him in the third tonight but to hit the three run homer first five Astros reached base in that inning what was the difference in the team's approach you got a hit a mistake you know he didn't make didn't make pretty much a mistake at all in Houston know why he had a lot of good quality at-bats tonight and you know could be pretty good to break through fifth inning bases loaded Presley comes in and in the NZ inning by striking out Torres and Encarnacion he had knee surgery in late August he still has discomfort in that knee how inspiring to you was it to see him do what he did that's unbelievable you know he has the heart of a warrior you know the heart of the champion and you know to get two really really great hitters out or right there especially after falling behind is awesome that's it's a huge momentum swing right there I'm glad you're up three games to one in perhaps the most hostile environment for a visiting team of the sport how satisfying would it be to close this series out right here on this field we just have to go play our game you know play our game we're gonna hand the ball to JV and we'll see what happens George thanks a lot yeah go back to you all right Ken his 13th career postseason home run tonight it's got two hits in this series both of them game-changing homers 8 3 the final score here in game 4 Kevin Burkhardt and the guys with a postgame show take it away
