this season it is the Giants from Oracle park game 162 when we say welcome inside Joe Davis or Hershiser on arezzo joins us in a moment 129 years of Dodger baseball they've got an opportunity today to stand alone in terms of wins in the regular season match in the 1953 team for the win last night they sent Rich Hill to the mound last year game 162 he was trying to pitch him into a game 163 today is trying to tune up for the postseason he sure as you know what this is about the sixth time he's gonna have the knee brace on and I think when you first come back from an injury all of a sudden you feel like I'm gonna use my normal mechanics I think he's had enough reps now to understand what mechanics to use today to stay pain-free and to stay effective Dodgers going for win number 106 here in 2019 the finale Bellinger trying to track down a couple milestones as well trying to make his final MVP case all that plenty more coming up from San Francisco [Applause] and set to begin Cheers Ilana alright Joe thanks very much the Los Angeles Dodgers locked up their division about two and a half weeks ago we know they have home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs yet they don't know who they're going to play in at the division series st. Louis and Milwaukee going toe-to-toe trying to determine who's going to win the NL Central and who's going to face the Washington Nationals in that NL wild-card game you can see the records there of course Chicago and st. Louis coming up as well excuse me Chicago and Milwaukee and then st. Louis as well as Colorado playing all today it's gonna be interesting to see what happens we will certainly update you when we find out who the opponent is going to be not just game 162 but a final game for Bruce Bochy is the manager of the San Francisco Giants and one of his many admirers is the manager on the other side Dave Roberts who played for Bruce Bochy in his final two seasons in San Diego and his first two seasons here in San Francisco [Applause] Hall of Famer no question can't wait to watch this final game for mochi and a Giants uniform and reflect a little bit on what he's meant to this organization into baseball here's lineup for the Dodgers here in game 162 Chris Taylor to lead it off and then max Muncie hitting second starting at third base again now Justin Turner as he gets his fresh as he can for October AJ Pollock hitting third back from fouling on that ball off his knee Bellinger Seager and Smith through the heart of the lineup with Lux at second Hernandez and Center and Rich Hill paddy 9 they face off with Derek Rodriguez who pitched out of the bullpen the last few games his last start was at Dodger Stadium in early September really struggled this year up and down from the minors the fastball has gotten hit at a very strong clip over 300 he is cut back on his fastball use and gotten more into his cutter he needs the movement he does not have elite velocity he needs location change of speeds and definitely the movement the Dodgers trying to finish the regular season on his season best seven-game winning streak Taylor stands in Rodriguez through his wind and off we go with a final game of the regular season and a pop fly to right for Jalen Davis one pitch one out Davis part of his defense for the Giants who Slater and his French ski in the outfield Longoria Crawford LuPone and help and Posey catches Rodriguez all brought to you by Kirk Madison of USC one away in the first inning and here's Muncie one of the positive developments over this last week has been Muncie starting to look like the guy from before you fractured the forearm there could have been a lot of questions about his health the production even when the average struggle coming back he found ways to produce runs and now he is actually literally hot and looks really good matched his career-high from last season with 35 home runs in last night's game it's absolutely amazing what he has done this year the production the consistency because I think at the end of the year we're gonna find out that he's been dealing with aches and pains all year and so it hasn't been one of those high production high health years for him it has been a great production year for him coming off a big season where he raised the bar for himself and he matched it and came back with another good year got a four-pitch walk Dodgers have their first base runner and he's talked about what that's gonna do for him moving forward knowing that he wasn't at his best health-wise all season and then looking up and seeing the numbers they better put up despite feeling diminished physically a lot of the year he's officially a veteran now he's officially been through the wars understands how to produce when you're not at your best understands how to stay in there and that he can still do it one on one out here's AJ Pollock if you're gonna hit by that pitch on Friday night with some skiers with him but back in there take strike one from Rodriguez good to see AJ back in there and say contusion but how long does it take for the swelling to go down how long does it take for the flexibility and the pain to go down flexibility to increase bounce along third that'll go foul and it's owing to no limp running down the first base line even on the foul ball they're being able to have confidence and push it this the injury right there on the left knee and chin hey AJ thinking if it's not one thing it's something else and painful but able to play one final regular-season game and look ahead to his first October with the Dodgers let's eat first one gone first in in Rodriguez de Pollock with the o2 elevated fastball punch foul a lot of talk coming into the month of September how did the Dodgers make sure they don't get complacent closing in on clinch in the division once they clinched the division how do you focus on still getting right for the postseason still being good every day well here we are final day of the regular season this has been their best month of the year 17 and six in September that's a little bit low and it's 1 & 2 Dave Roberts has done an amazing job with the workload I think the guys in general have done a nice job keeping sharp a lot of playing time to get divided in the first half of September the second half of September was a little bit more the guys that are on the bubble or going to be on the playoff roster getting the playing time Pollock punches one against the shift for base here up the second goes Muncie to on with one out so it brings up Cody Bellinger 47 home runs coming into the final day of the season he needs to come at Shawn Green's record in 2001 those 49 that he hit he's got one this weekend he only has two though in his career here in San Francisco imagine that it would be hard not to both they're trying to hit home runs y'all same game so for a game in the wind blowing out that was one of those things I'm gonna guess first pitch fastball heat a little bit and I get it two seamer low it away and I don't look like I'm on it you got to be pitching him knowing like he's sitting on a milestone or I used to track all those things oh for sure do I go in to incentives in the day you know runs scored and RBIs and home runs and the month of September was a time to look at everybody's statistics and see who might come out of their swing or try too hard with a runner in scoring position don't need to throw those guys strikes Oh two pokes it on the ground left side long run for profit disabled run but an infield single for Cody Ballinger it's not a home run but it is a base hit and his quest to make sure that he finishes it in 300 came into the day at 303 ladies one for one it was locked up but now it is in lock and key and a base hit congratulations to Cody on an exceptional year with a few more at-bats left that's gonna hit 300 I guess the only way that he wasn't going to hit 300 with the numbers being what they were coming in at the day he would have had to have gone whole for seven extra inning game you get seven at-bats in this one that's not good for any of us they're loaded up for seeker who takes ball one the quarry had his eleven game hitting streak snapped yesterday but overall it's been a very good month of September this has gotten more more comfortable here in his return for missing pretty much an entire year ah no ah no from Rodriguez he takes a strike one on one here's a lotta guys no chance Cody Bellinger is gonna get seven at-bats I know that you know that Dave Roberts was saying earlier today it won't be a complete line change but do not expect Cody Bellinger or corey seager or likely max Muncie AJ Pollock to play a full game got that full bench to unload and get those guys off their feet [Applause] get off your feet quicker if you get a head start in this game towards the franchise leading win total get him up to six seven nothing Dave Roberts will get you out of there early bases-loaded first inning 1 to 2 Seager dips low ball to 129 years Dodger baseball back to 1890 when they officially became a National League club a win today would set up a loan for the most wins in a season in franchise history five of the 1953 club with 105 the 2-2 to Seager and a foul Perdue markable at Dave Roberts is done in his first four seasons as manager Division titles in all for two of the three best seasons in franchise history 2017 104 this season at least 105 some that have been outside the counters for last game of the season not a consequential game usually the strike zone gets a little wider and hitters get a little more aggressive yeah with straight pro call pro take its mana gonzales back there today so the count though is full but the base is full seven pitch to Seager and he grounds it inside the bag down into the bullpen all the way to the corner two runs are in Belanger headed for the plate and qhorin Seager has unloaded the bases with a first inning double matching him with Anthony Rendon for the most in the National League [Music] bullying this ball down the line cigarette his best to left-center but this one it's nice to see that he's gotten a feeling for pulling the ball again it seems like that is also part of his hot streak right down the line well-positioned and easily sweeps the bases clean puts him into the top five in Dodger history for a single season of doubles and again it's 44 tied with Rendon for the most in the league so there's that early lead you were talking about still just one gone and Will Smith takes ball one how about the RBIs for Seager 26 in 23 games in September to lead baseball seems like all year what we worried about this week has gone the next week and then we have a new person to worry about right now you're you're worried about Justin Turner you're worried about Joe Kelly who probably pitch in this game you're worried about rich Hill when he takes the mound but there were times when you're worried about Seager our Verdugo or Pollock 1 1 2 Smith is down in a way and Alana has more on Turner Justin Turner obviously not in the starting lineup today guys and I don't expect to see him off of the bench either Dave Roberts said that they will get many at-bats as he needs in a simulated game on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium certainly does not feel he needs to get into any sort of game action today they're clearly monitoring the back and the ankle issue he is fine if it was the postseason he would be playing but expect him to get his at-bats before the playoffs begin on Tuesday three balls one strike on Smith the Dodgers have used a lot of simulated games this year they've used the velocity machine to keep the hitters sharp that haven't gotten enough at-bats on the velocity they have done a very good job again with the culture shift in preparing the roster as the rosters shifted and playing time has shifted over the years they've really learned how to prepare these guys and keep it fresh wina BMW z4 roadster that morongo that was one of the things we talked about during the pregame show but that's a hard line to walk making sure guys feel ready by seeing enough real live pitching while also making sure guys feel ready by getting them enough rest the two opposite things on a 3-1 Smith cracks a line drive left center field in deep back towards the law and gone now a laser of a hole mindful Will Smith and a five spot for the Dodgers here in the first [Applause] [Music] nothing got out in the blink of an eye just barely clearing the wall in left-center field for Smith's 15 wind blowing out to right so this being hit low probably helped a little bit boy it's got perfect backspin to maintain its height and get some carry at first it seemed easily this is going to go off the warning track maybe off the wall but then over the wall that was the opposite of max Muncey's home run in San Diego his second home run of the trip or of the week the home run prior to that came in the final game at Dodger Stadium and so for Derek Rodriguez all he gets an out on the first pitch of the game to Chris Taylor five runs no outs since not what Bruce Bochy was hoping for to get the pen going in the first inning in his final game now Lux looks at a changeup strike coach needs one more win to be 500 for his career gonna be a uphill climb today 13th final season in San Francisco 25th and final year overall folks assume his name has also been brought up as a potential candidate in San Diego I think that still would be a surprise only five managers ever have won more world championships than Bruce Bochy and 1/3 casey stengel joe mccarthy both won 7 Connie Mack won 5 Joe Torre and former Dodger manager Walter Alston one for ahna one two blocks it's it in the ground a second do Bowen is there and mercifully the second out recorded by Rodriguez Hernandez the eighth man to bat in this inning for LA one of his last 12 185 in September she's seen Israel reduced some with Gavin Locke's coming up and playing pretty much every day at second base it's been a roller coaster over a year for Quique with the coming out of spring training in the everyday second baseman getting off to a marvelous start for a few weeks then really can't say regressing but just kind of returning to the form of struggling by hitting it hard at people and then also combining that with some strikeouts around low and away sliders and now in a place where he's kind of back into his traditional role as the jack-of-all-trades and he does it really well with the glove and you never know with the bat he could end up being an MVP of a series with the way he can explode offensively on a 3-1 from Rodriguez Hernandez corks one down the line two left it's hooking foul good catch down [Applause] back in chapter 2 the holdat shirt-- comes up to the belt of proper the crosses matted to give Hernandez and finish the Dodgers in the first but they scored five times and give Rich Hill plenty of cushion to work with and his final regular-season start trying to make one last kiss for the postseason roster delete it off and then usually Z Longoria Slater and belt the heart of the lineup the rookie Jalen Davis right the veteran Brandon Crawford starts it short and that's aid against Rich Hill that was it but it got it out through those two innings in San Diego earlier on this trip didn't look like he'd even get through the first as some of that scar tissue continued to break up and the me up getting five K's in those two innings and you don't even better in the days that followed it one final tune-up as he tries to lock down that fourth spot in a rotation for the division series he's at over half a dozen times to take the mound with that brace on his knee so he is getting used to it you first come back you think okay the brakes gonna keep me from pain you experience a little pain maybe you find a little bit of a new delivery to feel more comfortable so he's looking for command the leg has not kept him from the velocity deteriorating it hasn't kept them to be able to spin the baseball it's all about just commanding the baseball consistently quickly headed to bone Owen to last season he found out less than 24 hours before game 162 that he was going to be the starting pitcher and it was a much different tone that day today he's gonna pitch him for his own postseason life the Dodgers needed him to pitch for the team's life to avoid going into the wild-card game so he got the call late started game 162 pitched very well helped the Dodgers horse game 163 and ultimately win the division you see these little walks around the hill he usually likes to work quickly but these walks I think are to kind of let the pain subside [Music] in between pitches if you tweak it a little bit delivers another road to to follow the most painful part of having something wrong with your back leg is when your foot pivots when you go to go down the hill and your heel rises up and you pivot over your toe and that puts the most stress on your leg and your knee right about now when that knee starts to bend and go forward and twist that's when you are trying to build the pressure on that back leg and to then take that pressure down the hill into foot strike so then you can transfer all that power right up your body from the back leg to the front leg and then up into your arm six pitch to the leadoff man there will be a seventh [Applause] when rich looks up into the sky he is not a guy who throws five different pitches he's not looking up there to figure out what do I want to throw I think he's looking up they're going it's a deep breath regroup here we go they're gone early making a war I asked him about the leg wind in between starts about you know is there a way to cut down on the follow-through on the leg width it looks like it puts a lot of stress on your leg that can you use your back leg as long as you can into foot strike and then just kind of let it go calm after that he's like well if I get into my left leg and it doesn't hurt and that kind of like what just kind of happens and then there's it gets risky to go full-on grunt with that one too wanted to some ways I don't always think that leg whip is an exhaust it looks like it's almost on purpose and it fires muscles to do it but I think it reminds him to do some things in his delivery and about being aggressive on that pitch in the next pitch that's one of those where it's in the zone but miss the target doesn't get the call Manny Gonzales gonna see that gloves moving away from the zone and didn't get the call so now at 2:00 - this is turning into an 11 pitch at-bat for the rookie to bone [Applause] [Music] [Applause] another - - when a curve wins the battle for Hill so 11 pitches to get the first out of the day Alanna Rizzo what's the [Music] certainly not the most efficient approach so when you have to throw 11 pitches to the leadoff man of the game for the Giants Dave Roberts saying that Rich Hill will hopefully go at least three innings out here and depending upon that efficiency perhaps a fourth inning if not that fourth inning will come in the form of a bullpen all right as Mike Yastrzemski stands in and takes strike one it's the mini spring training for Rich Hill to get the extra work as you extend yourself in the pen he would love to do it in the game spring training that feels like eight years ago just a few days ago you were telling me boy time flies can you believe we were down to the last week in the season now it's like spring turns eight years ago never feel forever a gun does I can't wait to get back to games that really matter love to see the franchise record and who wins today and this looks great it 5de nothing so far October baseball now really right around the corner nothing like it there isn't now you talk about kind of trying to find meaning in these games at this point with a 21 game lead easy to find it today I'm going to be in the final game and they're trying to set the franchise record but there is meaning in every single pitch once October gets here every pitch could be the warning breaking ball gets his scrum ski swinging in back-to-back K's on that curve for Rich Hill to open his day dodge defense getting bored out there at the ball yet to be put in play with the first two hitters here it is brought to you by tech medicine of USC Paula Fernandes and Taylor Muncie starts at third for Turner with Seager and locks up the middle Bellinger first and Smith catching hill with two outs here's Buster Posey strike one [Applause] they sit right center couple of interesting motivational forces today on both sides of the diamond on the giant side you want to win one for boats going out and I'm sure buster posey might have been able to even leave that speech as a team leader and then the Dodgers side trying to get the franchise win total so it came that they're gonna play with some intensity and they want to win for sure getting kept alive for Evan Longoria the Giants are gonna finish with their most wins in three seasons fade it over the final couple months though it was an exciting middle part of this season when they gets two games above 500 going into the trade deadline there were than two games of the second wild-card spot at that point and four hands eight he did a great job of kind of threading the needle still trading a couple pieces while keeping guys like Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith give them a shot see what they could do over the final couple months nine games below 500 since that point but it still felt like the perfect way to do it and looking back on it the way farhan was able to do it especially given the context of it being Bo cheese final season three Oh Posey ah first is the three one comes home and a breaking ball gets Longoria swinging three and two [Music] [Applause] rich in 89 9 - at the fastball right there drop him down to 74 with the curveball we can see why they get out in front of that at 16 mile an hour differential you don't put pressure on that back leg and build that power wouldn't work extra special with the slow curveball makes it easier to take little velocity off another three two and that one misses ball four back-to-back two-out base right that Austin Slater comes up so not an efficient side to this game for Hill 25 pitches it almost asurs that he will only go at least three innings in the game as a tribe keep around 45 to 60 depending on the intensity and the wear and tear they want to put on his back leg well I ball one [Applause] the Giants had some opportunities in this series but they've gone old through 16 with runners in scoring position so managers two runs in the two games both on Friday night and a 92 Dodger win that one lands for a strike 101 rich one on the il with the left arm issue but he's not wearing a sleeve today or sleeves so nothing to protect the arm it's really all about the knee and the knee brace he must feel good with his arm ground ball perfectly positioned Lux throws Slater out took 28 pitches but it's a Scola's first for Rich Hill he's in bracket challenge presented by MGM Resorts and compete to win up to $250,000 visit mlb.com slash bracket for details oh the biggest spotlight here on the final day of the season is on these two games Milwaukee and st. Louis separated by just a game in the central now both with two nothing leads Cardinals have a one game lead in the division they're chilled meeting off his second one ball one strike if the Brewers run in the Cardinals lose they would play a tiebreaker tomorrow otherwise the Cardinals will be in the Division Series against the Braves and the Brewers will head to Washington for the wild-card game and a date with Max Scherzer on Tuesday Rich Hill following instructions not to swing it would be a surprise if we follow those instructions for a young dag you who think you definitely follow instructions right role model right just gets carried away everyone smile choking way out all right taking strike three that's so if you wonder what I was talking about earlier this week is last start people do that all the time I'm here to make sure that I can translate for him in San Diego he barely was able to get to the first inning of pitching goes up there to hit in the top of the second Dave Roberts told him don't swing sure enough he swings and doubles down the line but it looked like he was under strict commands there not to swing yeah you're not on the playoff roster you swing okay I get it Taylor takes ball one Chris flied out the first pitch of the game would be 26 pitches before Rodriguez got the second out five runs it crops bases clearing double from Corey Seager and a two-run home run from weel smif to all Chris looking for a good feeling going into the postseason today three of his last nineteen with 12 caves that alarming of an uptick over the final week or so here's a 3-1 and a foul 3 & 2 you've seen guys that are ice-cold get hot you seen guys that are hot and feel ready and locked in get really cold in some ways it just doesn't matter I think you just need them to be healthy and then go compete that's it base hit 2 lives Taylor hustling out of the box making sure that Slater hurries the ball in a one-out single for Taylor we want to predict we want to anticipate we want to feel good we want to be worried about something and it seems like that's what we've done the whole month of September with this team and boy have they performed I can't believe it's their best month with everything that's not on the line they go out just beat people you know six-game winning streak defense an impressive offensive stretches but really it's been about the run prevention you're gonna put total of 13 runs during the 60 M winning streak drops in for a strike down Muncie one of the things that we had talked about and kind of nitpicked over the last few weeks was the big three in the rotation which is such a big part of what this team did all season all three of those guys going through their own struggles over the final month but all three of them seemingly getting right in their last few times out that's high and it's 1 and 1 you've got Clayton Kershaw last three starts wins amol sub 3 e ra Walker Buehler opponent sitting below 200 against him over his final four starts of the regular season and the dungeon ryu who's bad for a 4 or 5 start stretch a 1 29er a twenty-one caves and 0 walks over his final three games now the group of them is there 7 and 1 over that stretch so strikeout to walk ratio really good we're getting there wins the bullpens been doing their job that was another place that we were nitpicking the pen last eight game says a 180 starting to get some more clarity to what their bullpen may look like and then there may have a piece of piece in it [Music] - to pitch Muncie takes it in the dirt ball three walked and scored in the first inning 98 runs driven in this year on three two and take cyant has his second walk who have loved to see him get a strike and have a shot at that hundred RBIs with a homerun at this rate he's going to get nine at-bats today I'm plate appearances like Elana said Muncie and so we're the other regulars probably will be out partway through this game and more is what you get with our chicken nachos one of five new five-dollar fire grilled combos and for your local feed the flame or stirring in the Giants bullpen is Kurt Young makes another appearance Tarek Rodriguez who's such a bright spot for the Giants last year 281 for an average that was second only to walk or Bueller among rookies in the National League but it's just not had the same kind of success this year as you mentioned back and forth between the majors and triple a back and forth between the rotation of the bullpen [Music] first and second one gone in 8j pollock watches a fastball or changeup miss slow ball one Ajay's singled and scored see how long AJ stays in there today see if they you can get the leg hot and then it can it stay loose while it sits in between innings or he doesn't hit standing out there in the outfield on a bad leg can stiffen you up too hopefully you can gain some confidence in that completely different guy in his second half miss in the final couple months of the first half for the elbow issue in the first half he was roughly 30% worse than the league average hitter since the all-star break roughly 30% better than the league average hitter [Music] in terms of on-base plus slugging 13 of his 15 home runs coming in the second half two on one out five nothing Dodgers second inning Artie 55 pitches thrown by Derek Rodriguez [Music] [Applause] [Applause] couple more key hits by the Dodgers here extend this lead this early in the game and this will be a day just to enjoy baseball and stay healthy it'll be a few stories still with Rich Hill on the mound Joe Kelly expected to get an inning maybe two and I would expect Joe Kelly's to be just one inning make sure he feels fine they need an answer on how he feels and if he can perform and throw strikes so they can have a better idea how to make the playoff roster Taylor's second Muncey at first on the 1 2 pitch Pollock takes ball 2 [Applause] [Applause] - - I stopped glad you got the equipment on right bullet 364 days dog hockey season brant whiting the bullpen catcher for the Giants [Applause] another two to jc's anyway after the play at that time too and Bruce Bochy makes his first appearance of the day this is going to do it for Derek Rodriguez just one in two thirds 59 pitches sure comes up with two on and two out here in game 162 and see the finishing touches on his MVP case it's gonna be a fascinating vote between danger and the election Anthony Rendon before he is done in the second half but really looks like probably Bellinger or Yelich or National League MVP both very good players but I've got to vote for Kody just with the flexibility he gives Dave Roberts all the different positions he plays at a gold level level and of course what he's done with the bat value to the Dodgers two on two-out as he takes ball one and we checked on with Alana we're just talking about Cody Bellinger in the MVP race and Dave Roberts said earlier today exactly what aura was just saying the flexibility that Cody Ballinger gives him as a manager to be able to place him in so many different defensive positions but it's not just what he does offensively of course the way that he runs the bases he said he is the best player in the National League on the National League's best team and he said not taking anything away from the other candidates but Cody Bellinger said he said that he's gonna win a Gold Glove and right field he could have easily done it perhaps at first and in center - he just gives you so much versatility and he really is a five-tool player takes a strike units 2 & 1 so if you're just looking head-to-head it's Yelich number one in most of the rate stats Ballinger though number one in baseball-reference version of war which goes into what David Roberts is saying he's the best player he's on the best team the allergist slight edge baserunning Bellinger a pretty decent sized edge defensively there's the whole factor of the Alex missing in the last few weeks the Brewers taken off nobody's ever missed the last three weeks of the season and won the MVP there's a scenario where it could happen in both leagues this year because you have Yelich in the National League Mike Trout same discussion in the American League this is flip the coin between him and Alex pregnant under who's singled and scored in the first inning has him at first and second two gone here in the second they'll take off with his three two on Bellinger watches ball four has been on both times proven his on-base percentage which came into the game fourth in the National League they're loaded up for Corey Seager like they were in the first inning when he unloaded him his 44th double another situation for him to rack up some RBIs where he leads all of baseball in September he is peaking at the right time feeling very good about his swing in the production of course strike one Bellinger's day is finished Bab baby pinch run so Bellinger's regular season is finished 47 home runs which will be the third most and a single season in franchise history behind belt race 48 and greens 49 Manny Gonzales pretty darn tight zone any day of the season let alone the fine Cody Bellinger getting the congratulations throughout the dugout Brant Brown one of the hitting coaches the first guy that greeted him extra special relationship those two guys worked really hard on refining his swing refining his approach this winter 2 and 2 on Seager and getting congratulations from everybody from his good buddies to the new guys like jedd gyorko to today's starting pitcher rich hill everybody in that dugout everybody across baseball appreciating what he's become and what he did this year one of the first times he can kind of reflect for a little bit with his friends his family right there in the dugout really he spent more time with these guys that you do your own family and you really don't talk and reflect on what's happening or how good a year you're having when you're grinding it out it's kind of not in the culture at all but when it's over it's kind of sentimental like this and looking forward got a few moments here a few days even ground ball to first for belt he will hit a covering cellmate and that does it for the Dodgers in the center [Music] he stays in and plays left time for the Humana team prevent defense looking at the distribution of innings in left field this year babies play 225 innings displayed the fewest out of these four is probably going to be the one that plays the most once October's from gran AJ Pollock they've done a nice job in getting production offensively out there in left field and rotating using that as one of the more flexible places as we take a look at JIT jerko over there at third base Muncie to first Brandon Belt taking strike one from Rich Hill 28 pitch first inning for rich struck out two walked one stranded to belt let's swim to right [Applause] routine for taylor one away [Applause] [Music] Rogers up five not fingered in all five runs in the first inning today is jaylen davis climbs in 21 game lead in the division for the Dodgers Center in the final day they win they will guarantee the largest division margin in West Division history they're going to at least be tied the 1975 Cincinnati Reds had a 20-game advantage at the end of the season in the West so the least I bet same thing with the franchise win total they would at least tie the 1953 Dodgers [Music] on a 2-1 Davis swatches a curve hook around the plate ball through [Applause] get a little help from the home plate umpire on a few more strikes not today Wow strike call one way or another on a borderline pitch all of a sudden motivates a lot of people motivates the pitcher to keep throwing strikes and motivates the hitters to swing the bat [Applause] payoff pitch and a walk for Davis [Applause] one on one out up comes Brandon Crawford been a rough season offensively for man a rough finish one of his last 20 one of the many aging veterans under long-term contracts on this Giants team they're gonna make a little bit cumbersome is BA Hons AAT tries to make the roster of his own let's grind it off at the hands ii lux feeding short see it at first at double play much quicker second inning for Rich Hill after the long first and five nothing after two [Music] visit spectrum now for more information on statcast AI powered by AWS will smith with his 15th home run of the year and at the felt like it was hit low like it was a low line drive home run it was 19 degree line Jango makes it the second lowest launching bit of a home run to the boundary this year that baby hit one a little bit lower than that August in Atlanta [Applause] once he got hit off the top of his foot nothing gonna give him first they're saying Will Smith does not lie I believe him take first it got him Dodgers with 9 baserunners over 2 plus Bruce Bochy San hold on we're taking a look [Applause] love this this is awesome you definitely cannot kick him out no so Bruce could really get his money's worth whatever he wants [Applause] a legend [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's your world boats we're just living in it today no question of God you do whatever you want they say not sure exactly what is all about beyond the challenge or not but today it doesn't matter tremendous respect everywhere for that man so Smith on and another rookie and Gavin Lux comes up McGavin was talking about how this first month has been for him he said the first few days in the majors felt like an out-of-body experience so he kind of tossed that out in terms of judging how it's been that's back to the mound Selman to second one conquered the first late lots of world on the fielder's choice he also made it though even as he's gotten comfortable the fact that that carrots been hanging in front of him in terms of his spotter postseason roster and he admitted them yeah that makes it difficult at times in that spending of a nature to press some and to trial it of an extra hard because she knows that he is playing for that and he is trying to impress his teammates and the manager and the coaches Autobody experience yes your first few days in the big leagues but then as you continue I'd say the nerves and the anxiety is still there but knowing that the playoff roster is there like you said I I really do believe that he is in a place where it's good because that nervousness and anxiousness is going to continue if he's on the playoff roster into the playoff games he'll revisit that first day in the big leagues the first pitch in a playoff game only two on Hernandez the one to hook down the line to left foul [Music] two and two down those four only one out I would think Evan Lux will stay no sense risking the injury now the key cahit not runnin Hernandez pops it up foul ground first base side for Brandon Belt who's got me on the San Francisco pop flies it looks like it's into the stands and then frustration for Quique as the wind blows it back and Brandon Belt played it perfectly so two gone for Hill it soon with a five nothing lead in this one all five runs come in in the first happened to just be joining us space is clearing double from Seager and a two-run homer from Will Smith strike one rich stood there like a house by the side of the road is first time why bring the bat right I'm gonna say there's no possible way he's swinging because he's taking five or six pitches today that we have never seen him take exactly he's barely in the box he's faking or well-known up yeah stretching yeah yeah that's the end of the third about five nothing my own it's to like it five nothing game rich into Joey Ricker strike one so what do you thought a rich Hill I mean zeros I think it's much better than the last outing I think it is where his sidewalk was which he thought he felt amazing and we're seeing him less time between pitches every inning looks like he has found a delivery where the pain is tolerable or gone he dealt with a tight zone strike three called and record the first out of the third on rich Hills third K much less a sense of kind of like feeling his way through it a little less effort warm rhythm not really trying to push it but enough effort to pitch and get it done his game has never been about velocity it's been about deception and about being having a great curve ball so that high fastball and that curve ball window kind of reflecting each other back to the top Mauricio Duvall strike one facing a giant steam that is not good offensively and especially not good on pitches up at the top of the zone plays right into rich his hands home with the no.1 pitch oh and two [Music] after him that appearance had to be Dustin man [Music] boys he'd been good over the last couple weeks he has an electric arm 98 miles an hour than the cutter at about 91 to 93 at times and he has shown really good poise his pitched through some traffic to where the innings have not gone perfect and he has not melted down and shied away from the strike zone top left side hill all lunges to it guns it to first it get him nice be able to check that box - boy scampers off the mound and then has to plant on his bad knee he's backing off right now walking around maybe excited that it feels good if it does that's gonna be a big moment for him that's that's huge right there for him to be able to take that pressure twist behind him and throw the ball to first base of that velocity he's probably letting a little pain subside before that was an unbelievable test Mike use Stremme ski and it's also something that's going to go on those advanced scouting reports you wondered especially if it's Washington in the division series guys like Trey Turner would they test Hill would they lay bunts down still may but for his mind said sue didn't know that he can defend it confidently it's a big play you could see opposing teams bunting just to test his leg and maybe cut his out in short even if you don't think you can make it for the hit you might sacrifice a an attempt to put the pressure on rich in his leg - and - Ilana well they Robert said earlier today guys that he wasn't gonna let David Freese be his first lieutenant and manage this game because they had a lot of different things they wanted to do out of the bullpen perhaps Clayton Kershaw is going to be coming out of the bullpen because he has cleats on and perhaps this will be his final tuneup out of the pen before he takes the ball for the postseason all right it's big news of the big three he is the most comfortable coming out of the pen so you would want to take that risk probably Walker Buehler that's that for the Giants in the third best inning for Rich Hill is likely his last one of the day defensively - it had a nice play on it all smiles for Rich Hill and all smiles for the Dodger organization as teammates to see that the big fella is gonna be back looks like he'll be on the playoff roster the game four starter maybe top of the order here in the fourth Henderson Franco comes in delivers ball one Dave Roberts had said couple days ago that yes the hope the plan was to have rich he'll start Game four you wouldn't think there is anything today that would change that the only silver to pie grab all that has eyes and finds its way into Center second hit the Chris Taylor today creator of barrels are overrated produces one there it's another chance for max Muncie with one swing to reach 100 RBIs for the year 101 one of the more memorable moments of this season was Muncey's splash hit home run against Bumgarner here and what made it that much more memorable was his quote after the game which really didn't make it son a sense but it didn't really need to it was just the fact that for once a ballplayer chose to be completely honest when it came to something that kind of broke the normal code a little bit of Max's football mentality in that quote it fired up max Muncie special guy down swinging here one away in the fourth [Applause] jedd gyorko to the plate upward clutched off of the bench she came on for AJ Pollock earlier that makes his first at-bat of the afternoon it's it hard but right at Crawford six to the bottom of the fourth Dodgers five Giants nothing them ready for the police you've got to remember with Rich Hill being healthy how well he is done in the playoffs little over 47 innings pitched over 11 appearances 10 starts with an ER a of 2.66 so when you're talking Rich Hill and you're talking big moments he will shine for you a great day for the Dodgers and for Rich Hill Dustin May comes on heart of the lineup Buster Posey to lead this inning off seven consecutive scoreless appearances form a tall rookie right-hander kicks and fires Posey watches a cutter strike one little different style than Rich Hill you're going from the soft toss ting curveball lefty to the fire blazing fastball of the young righty fastball cutter to cutters in a row perfectly placed there on the outside part of the plate it's been awesome watching him lately last nine innings 13 K's one walk and a bunch of fire he is an intense guy that's those emotions show the face painting was allowed in baseball boy what he had on on the costume day my gosh see that coming at you Pennywise the clown he did his postgame interviews in this costume with the face span on straight face terrified I wish that you could wear costumes while you play automatic greatest closer in baseball history and coming dressed like Pennywise [Applause] Elano is pretty freaky what now that was terrifying I had nightmares for several days after that I asked him why he chose penny wise and he said well it was a natural fit with my red hair he is that it wasn't really that hard to just find a costume for that he said it was just a little bit of face paint straight face perfect perfect fit and terrifying or just misses with that gutter ball one I think we should have a costume or face painting day in spring training I'm saying the next players weekend although I let them choose their costumes I'll pop up and right side got a MUX putting it away Friday on an all-new backstage Dodgers go behind the scenes of this last regular season road trip as the Dodgers kickoff this rivalry series with a team costume day don't miss backstage Dodgers Friday after the post game show on Sportsnet la see more than just what dust and more you were favored you babe Ryu you have to document that homerun Longoria with a bases empty long gone hits it foul your Zeus borderline just his free theme that's not a picture of it last night at baby face mask there is Clayton Kershaw while rich Hill finishes off his day down in the bullpen with a simulated inning Adam Clark as well there's no room out there for Clayton [Music] oh and to [Music] it's like hurry up let's go do you guys know who I am I need a mound you can walk down there slowly and Rich Hill should be about done [Music] [Applause] [Music] how much of this you think is they just want to get him game action and a side work how much of it is they want to get him an opportunity to feel what it's like again to come out of the pen for specifically that role in October in addition to starting obviously and third there's jerko the only thing I would change in your statement is the pronoun I would say not they he what he wants to do because he definitely would have the say they give him the opportunity you know there you could be out for nine days if you're the game three starter would you like the inning of work when would you like your side work so he probably knows which game he is pitching and this is an adjustment to whatever the schedules gonna be game 1 game 2 game 3 and also the fact I think of the big 3 he's the most comfortable and most logical guy you would seek him out of the bullpen has done it in the playoffs at World Series and he definitely enjoys the intensity of that moment as inside his later one ball one strike Rich Hill goes from finishing off his simulated in in to protecting labor Shaw rich still at the ball in his hand and taking on that Duty he might have some more work he wants to be down there they looking for another scoreless appearance home of the one two strike three call 98 to the knees and 1 2 3 good the Giants in the fourth against penny wise the manager the salience move along to the fifth inning all five runs in this game coming in the first gave the Giants stability Bruce Bochy did it hadn't been a whole lot of that baited to lead off this inning he takes ball one from Franco from 1954 through 1996 the Dodgers had two managers Walt Alston and Tommy Lasorda the Giants in that span had 16 boat she comes 2007 his first year 13 seasons as the manager three World Championships heading to the Hall of Fame baby digs it out sends five ball down the line Davis over to the corner with room one gone the fifth easy to draw some comparisons between Bruce Bochy and Walter Alston to get the Hall of Fame success Walt had four World Championships Bochy had the three both kind of intimidating guys just to look at but soft-spoken commanded so much respect from the clubhouses and the fans and Hurley everybody that came in contact with him Bochy 25 seasons as a manager austin 23 both retired at age 64 Seager flips one off the end of the bat the short life filled with envoy attack sit down two away here Smith the Dodgers trying to break the record they share right now with a 53 Brooklyn Dodgers 105 wins manager those 1953 Dodgers was Charlie Dressen and after the season dress and went into Walter O'Malley and demanded a multi-year deal the Walter wouldn't break from the philosophy of the organization which was just one-year contracts so they parted ways after franchise record 105 wins back-to-back pennants he leaves Walter Alston comes in 23 years on 23 one-year contracts popped on the infield franco with 1 2 3 v prior to first pick so it is Clayton Kershaw the bullpen for the Dodgers 2 pitch the bottom of the fifth well if he does go three scoreless innings here I'm not sure he'll get that much work he could get his er a under three Clayton getting a little extra work right here and you could speculate that he's probably not going to be in Game one when he's pitching here but possibly two or possibly three it as total speculation worked out of the bullpen Game seven of the World Series in 2017 four shutout innings more member bought lease more fondly memorable Game five of the division series the year before that Brandon Belt swings and misses strike one when it came on got the final two outs is like a scene out of a movie as he emerged out of the dugout in DC stalked down to the bullpen nobody thought there was any chance we'd see him that night then yes well this is likely an anticipation of his start you've also got to assume the Dodgers are looking at October similar to how the last two World Championship that is the Red Sox last threw the Astros the year before using their starters in different roles you could see any one of those big three coming out of the bullpen this one on the mound the most likely though ground ball to second forelocks probably saying were you to be the least likely yes but can't you envision Walker Buehler coming out throwing 99 hit me an outer - Brenna's off a series yes definitely any do-or-die game where he is fresh enough to pitch I could see him in there you know a little something about that huh the adrenalin carries you yeah I'll tell you what I mean you could say well you pitched yesterday or you threw 90 pitches yesterday and you could say I can figure out a way whatever the wear and tear is in that moment of that day as long as it doesn't hurt your career you can recover from it there's a 102 Jalen Davis that's back down behind five how cool this speed what who that is Madison Bumgarner who was originally scheduled to start today's game as a bat helmet the manager that would love to use it wanted to whose boat cheese last day in a giant uniform could be Madison Bumgarner's last day in a giant uniform so I'm sure boats just trying to get him an elevation and some recognition for all the contributions he's had here in San Francisco [Applause] Davis takes his kerbin it's two and two wouldn't it be extra fitting off the at back him against Kershaw it would be just be right here's to two [Music] [Applause] story on Clayton this year as far as when easy has trouble its first pitches two batters and first innings so coming out of the pen a little bit different intensity and trying to get over the hump book don't want to come out of the bed and have a bad first inning you bring you out of the pen to get the job done that gate opens and you feel good about the guy coming out of it you would if the big fella does that [Applause] - - again did he call you bet he did - away and look who's coming up would it be Bumgarner against Kershaw Smith first shot both given bump down to his moment Swiper from the giant side of the coin those have been the two faces of the franchise the faces of the rival in this generation Bruce Bochy Madison Bumgarner a lotta ways and others has grown to his final game there's a good chance it's Bumgarner's final game although we've said that before it seems like a sure thing that he'd beat down it takes up in an attack on oil and you can see what he's meant to San Francisco with the reception the crowd gives him could see the respect the Dodgers have form but the nods that they build and if it is his final season in San Francisco it really is one to be proud of it's gonna finish second in 18 specs on the corner that's strong too recent seasons has been bitten by the injury bug is there every fifth day for the next especially then that pulling the trigger on a trade got to spend these final two months with folks you to to gonna get his money's worth here at the moment they will never forget [Applause] we'll never forget great theater exactly what baseball's another three tune and lined out to third Phish Huggins Bumgarner Dodgers against Giants respect they're coming in the first inning Corey Seager with his National League leading 24th double cleared the bases with that double the men one batter later Will Smith his 15th home on and baseball that you've been score more runs in one inning than your opponent's scores the whole game and happens an awful lot the Dodgers with that explosion again they've shown that over their last possible six wins with the sweep of San Diego and here possibly against the Giants they have exploded in certain innings try to match their season high with a seven-game winning streak smile from Clayton Kershaw after 1-2-3 inning in inning of relief bottom third of the order against Birch Smith waiver claim from Milwaukee last month his first one to Gavin locks ball one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and figure that it would just be that one inning for Kershaw and then something that everybody's interested to watch Joe Kelly one more appearance one last appearance to see if he is ready to go it's left everybody wondering these last few days this last week or so team being very quiet about what exactly the issue is saying that it is just general body soreness not pitched since September 18th lux pulls it base it into right all kinds of news being written today with Rich Hill going the three innings Clayton Kershaw and relief Joe Kelly will get his opportunity to write his story today Gavin Luck's with the base hit their Dodgers out hitting the Giants now seven one on the Giants it was supposes two-out single in the first as Hernandez Cardinals have pulled away nine nothing they leave the cups it looks like Cardinals are going to wrap up the division purrs breeding Iraqis as well but that at this point doesn't matter the Cardinals take care business win the division all the games across baseball beginning at 3 o'clock Eastern here on the final day flied to right Jim and Davis steps out of the track makes the catch Hernandez out number one via Dodger Stadium for the NLDS Game one and receive a Cody Bellinger postseason bobblehead commemorating his tremendous season for more information visit Dodgers comm host season so it will be just one inning for Kershaw as Edwin Rios is set up there is the pinch hitter the longest home run this season by a Dodger earlier on this trip in San Diego speaking of homeruns if you had Pete Alonzo is your homerun champ in the National League and Jorge Soler is your home run champ in the American League you were a big winner these are long shots crazy so they're benefitted of course from my trout not playing the final few weeks just passed in last night most home run happy season ever [Music] hundreds have benefited from it as much as anybody 3:35 homerun hitters for the first time in franchise history Ballinger and Peterson and Muncie 11 with double-digit home runs breo's down on strikes cooling season has featured the four best homerun hitting teams in the history of this sport this year's Yankees this year's twins issues Dodgers this year's Astros one through four the three teams that are at the top as far as home run reliance in September are the three favorites in the playoffs the Yankees on top Astros second Dodgers a tick just below them 57% of the Yankee home runs this month have come via the home run 56% for the Astros and 56% for the Dodgers one ball no strikes on Saylor we talked about this in San Diego a little bit earlier this week that the idea of home run reliance being a bad thing once he gets October historically that's proven to be a myth the teams that are the most home run reliant during the regular season tend to hit home runs at a higher clip than those that aren't is home run reliably tend to retain their home run abilities better than the teams that typically don't rely on the home run so you wouldn't want to be home run reliant and not hit very many homers if that makes sense but it seemed like the Dodgers more than any team in the National League ever it's okay to rely on who you are and if you want to win a series in the postseason you better be hitting at least a home run a game but if you're hitting two or more you're gonna win the series for sure three balls one strike on Taylor yet last year when he hit one home run in a game you win about 44 percent of the time you hit two or more home runs in a game you win 80% of the time so don't fear the home run if you were a good home run hitting team that's a walk for Taylor in their first and second with two out 33 postseason games last year 10 to them the team's hit the same number home runs and the rest of the games the team with the most home runs went 19 and 4 it's just so hard to string together hits these days so you got a better chance against let's say Max Scherzer to string together four hits or the better chance to get a walk or a little bloop and then one big strike one home run ball one on Muncey and pitchers mistakes this year getting punished more because the what the hitter is trying to do as far as the launch angle and how far the ball is carrying so tricking a hitter and getting them to strike out has a lot more value this year and putting the ball in play in the air has a lot more value for the offense [Applause] suing on monsoons already got a couple watch today you could see this being Max's last at-bat of the year Dave Roberts she's thinking about getting him off his feet one more chance at 100 RBIs got 98 on a 2 on from birch Smith Muncie swings and misses at a good change to him to say he drives in 1 I think he might ask to stay in the game [Music] drives in - you can pinch run for me [Music] flied to right the Jalen Davis and we go to the bottom of the six all the scoring in this game thought in the first [Music] and 390 back in the box and by Nissan choose Nissan today for great offers on a most exciting lineup ever shop choose Nissan calm back in San Francisco where the Dodgers lead the Giants five nothing Joe Kelly sent for his first appearance in 11 days all all eyes will be on Joe Kelly to see if the delivery is solid the theater see if he has control and then command he's got the fastball the curveball and the change-up but definitely want to see if he could throw the fastball in the curveball for strikes see how he's feeling see what the radar gun says also as important as anybody for the Dodgers looking ahead to October Donovan Solano first at-bat of the day came on in an earlier double switch let's see what Kelly's got 96 ball one all kinds of defensive changes and grown isn't right tailors and center take a pic pkzip short Beatty's in left is a strike one gently really solidified this Dodger bullpen after rough first two months he's as good as anybody in the National League from a bond late May to early September especially in the season her Kenley Jansen hasn't been at his best much more important first breaking ball misses and it's 2 & 1 nobody was struggle in those first two months Dave Roberts said many times Joe Kelly is going to get big outs for us Joe Kelly's gonna have to get big outs for us remains the case looking ahead the next few weeks same can be said for Kenley Jansen one way or another he's going to need to get big outs on lands in it's 2 & 2 it's good to see him throw a breaking ball behind the count to get back in the count that's not defaulting to something that doesn't hurt that's going I feel good about my arm I feel good about my lower body stiffness all the things that need to feel good to be a pitcher a high level pitch three in a row jerk go at third Solano's the first out breaking ball down back to back one to one and then the two to one gets the groundout Dodger pitching has faced the minimum since the first inning when there is a hit and walk against Hill now Mauricio Duval is over 2 it's a fourth consecutive breaking pitch back-to-back pitches get the first two outs here at the six [Music] say he looks pretty good a lot of strikes good breaking balls full arm speed body's getting down the hill good agility on the mountain that'll be off there's Dave Roberts is seen enough six pitches Kelly departs 2020 season tickets are on sale now joined the day and secure access to the 2019 postseason and the 2020 all-star game at Dodger Stadium visit Dodgers dot-com membership Adam Cole Eric certainly going to be part of that postseason roster man has he filled a specific role well since they acquired him from Tampa Bay very sweet piece to the bullpen can pitch a complete ending by himself can come in and be the left-handed specialist and he is definitely a specialist at getting the ground ball we've seen him fall behind three and oh but you still have confidence that he's gonna get in the strike zone so I really like him a lot I think this is a very integral piece to the pen and to link some different flame throwers together Yastrzemski to gone sixth inning here comes Kyle Eric on the corner 101 a lot of flame throwers a lot of lengths in the bullpen so he stands out for being the complete opposite of that abuse is soft contact and short little bursts [Music] ground ball to first stake into the bag by Muncie that's another perfect inning by Dodger pitching last baserunner for the Giants way back in the second top of the seventh inning time now for the connection to the game brought to you by t-mobile as we continue to look at what's going on in the NL Central the st. Louis Cardinals pulling away that looks like they're going to win the central Milwaukee Brewers are beating the Colorado Rockies but at this point it's a moot point as st. Louis likely will win the NL Central that means Milwaukee will face the Washington Nationals in that National League wild card game and the winner of that game will be at Dodger Stadium guys all right Elijah in terms of classic starting pitching matchup you're gonna have half one Max Scherzer goes for the Nationals Sam Coonrod comes on to pitch here Brandon Woodruff for the Brewers so brew is like Woodruff but he's only pitched twice over the last couple months dealing with an oblique injury jedd gyorko swings at the first pitch flyball centerfield one pitch one out now Max Scherzer though has not exactly been Max Scherzer over the second half of this season as he's dealt with some injuries of his own we will see it would be very interesting to see if Scherzer's on his game and then to see if Milwaukee can find a way to patch together the game as far as their pitching staff it's what they do it's baby Scherzer in the month of September a 5/16 er a we've talked about it before but I think that what everybody would be in agreement if you could pick between the two who you'd rather face it would be Milwaukee it's pretty scary three-headed monster in that rotation for the Nationals obviously using Scherzer Game one means you're not gonna see him until liked in Game three but you would probably see Strasburg in Game one Patrick Corbin and game tool and that game three back in DC sure is it [Applause] too long the wild card games are fun though man game sevens come on right away [Applause] those teams have been competing right down to the wire pretty much so they're kind of battle-tested when I always talk about well they clinched a while ago or this or that so I'm going to jump right into some pressure pack moments [Applause] when I walk for baby shoes are always fun to watch this is a baseball fan and when you inject the fact that it's a winner go home game and that makes some extra fun to watch he prowls around the mouth ohh even when it's a random start stomping yeah oh yeah there's no groan and he seems to have an extra gear when all of a sudden he's got his back against the wall runners in scoring position [Music] well you got Atlanta st. Louis Atlanta it's going to be a good series though st. Louis's really played well in some ways their pitching staff as far as the resumes and the health they've really come around Jack Flaherty yeah well they're Maine that'll kick off a rotation [Music] two and one on the groan Adam Wainwright has found the Fountain of Youth you in September go Dodson quietly very good Jack Flaherty pitched today's so that would line him up on regular rest to pitch game to to be in Atlanta three one didn't groan got a piece of the barrel there and the count goes for mutter run on that fastball good movement Giants analyzing everything I'm sure far Hans IEDs everybody in all the eyes and all the data on this team to try and fix it as quick as possible be interested to see where they go in terms of the next manager a lot of openings a lot of options Joe Maddon is out as Cubs manager Clint Hurdle officially out as pirates manager Bruce Bochy retiring makes for a question trivia question that is tough to get right that's an I explained the whole damn sure but I can't complete it the bones throw hoffland is Solano in the ground is aboard two on with one out okay so with Bochy retiring hurdle and Maddon wolf let go who would you guess are the top three longest tenured managers in the National League Wow drilled a base hit by the way for the groan I'll just tell you cuz I'm Craig Counsell is first Wow going in the next season entering his sixth year tied for a second Dave Roberts got to be in there then Dave Roberts and Don Mattingly talk about a revolving door sudden you remove the vets God sniff you got him right in the elbow guard especially judging by the lack of reaction there yep [Music] second time wheels got hit today the bases are loaded for luxe look Don Mattingly beating the odds and Miami signing the extension everybody kind of figured that he was this placeholder once Derek Jeter took over it must like his patience with a young team a lot of teaching going on over there [Applause] do an hour [Music] [Music] ball three unlocks know where to put him that is up five nothing here in the seventh we need one [Applause] [Applause] three two [Applause] [Music] pattern so far as Gavin's going to get something on the outer half of the plate and probably from stub they come inside and miss the bases-loaded walk for Gavin Lux makes it six nothing [Music] [Applause] fan appreciation day here in San Francisco the fans with some booze right they're not showing much appreciation for ball four first run in this game since the Dodger 5 run first yeah it's going to do it for Khun rot the calendar brought suit by Nissan this is it for us the Dodgers headed to the Division Series to the postseason you can hear all those games with Charlie and Rick on AM 570 starting on Thursday Game one of the division series yandel gustavo has been really good for the Giants twenty two games out of the bullpen facing Hernandez space is loaded 6-nothing here in the seventh snobbish signed this winter minor league contract 26 years old out of the Dominican Republic made his debut at the Houston Astros 2016 and 17 hernandez chops one up the middle Solano to the bag in the first we're gonna play the stretch in San Francisco with the Dodgers in front six nothing [Applause] 2:32 aren't becomes who wins the national leagues I am with Jacob degrom that a lot of people figure is going to take it home for the second year in a row even hunt Jin Ryu after the game yesterday said he thinks that the ground should win it's right after Dave Roberts made the case for Ryu Jim being the humble guy that he is pointed to degrom just whip which is walks and hits four innings pitched it's the best in the league same with a strikeouts of 255 sure's are always going to be in the discussion Jack Flaherty with his remarkable second half are we going to get a vote or two as well Aramis Garcia against Dylan fluoro takes strike one I want to see Ryu in it of course I definitely the LOI RA just the old-school guy in me as far as winning more games and having the lowest dra but I know the peripherals and I know strikeouts are really sexy and the whip is a good stat but what Ryu has done for the pitching staff here and he dominated the league for most of the year it'd be fun to see a Dodger on top again where you said the ER a title for him is special enough his goal come out of the season was just to stay healthy which he did for much the whole year to go from not just staying healthy but what in the ER a cloud that is a big big deal we'd love to have a scion but not going to change the way he perceives what he did this here he said to make some good money this winter gonna be free agent again after accepting the qualifying offer one-year deal last winter to it to will individual awards and accomplishments are great but it'll all be in the rearview mirror if they can bring home a world championship it will pale in comparison hookup dillan floral probably out in the bubble as far as the playoff roster has been thrown the ball well lately just looking for some results but as far as ball coming out of his hand and the action and the execution has gotten better fastball he's gotten sharper breaking balls gotten a little bigger shot to right but a nice sliding catch by Christopher the girl defense has gotten better behind him to pick up some of those mistakes and I don't think that was really a mistake a good low fastball just a good piece of hitting an even better piece of defense and right field by the speeding to groan [Applause] now it's Dickerson UPS pinch-hit for San Francisco on a six nothing game here in the seventh Bohun [Music] well ball one strike vicar sin in a nice job with San Francisco coming over from San Diego earlier this year [Music] lofted to left pretty bright sunshine this time today the babies yep shades on kids his eyes with his love as well it makes the catch two up two down for Dylan flora Christian Adamas to pinch-hit with the bases empty in two out still just one hit today for San Francisco on the run prevention from the Dodgers continues during this winning streak to be exceptional try to finish the regular season in a seven-game winning streak thirteen runs allowed in that state few starts ago we were worried about the rotation but the bullpen was still very solid and you just open that the big three would start to get it together and then they did and the bullpen continued on their run so you know they have not been giving up many runs at all we've done a nice job in the bullpen handing it from one guy to the next nice job in the rotation and from one good start to the next to start off games and keep the team on a roll Oh into [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] a swing and a Miss for strike three and the Giants continue to go down quietly we're through his seven six nothing here game 162 dr. Pynchon has retired 16 in a row we go to the eighth inning with the Dodgers in front of the Giants six nothing six outs away from a new franchise record 106 wins joc Pederson to pinch-hit leading off this eighth Fan Appreciation Day here in San Francisco and they just gave away a car and they came on and then the ceremony name the seat number and then the camera flash to the seat number and the person that won it it has been a Dodger year the lady had a Dodger jacket on and she got booed roundly make it 107 wins Peter Senate is 36 home runs strike one we talked about it a little bit earlier on this road trip but it is almost exclusively right-handed pitching the dancers are going to see at least in terms of starters and the postseason although hers to throw a wrinkle into that the way that they operate it's a bouncing ball base hit center field to open this 8 so what that means is a bunch of starting time for joc Pederson which is a good thing for the Dodgers as hot as his bent bat has been brings the Thunder to the top of the lineup Thunder at the top of the lineup throughout the lineup has been a big part of the story this year's the Dodgers set a franchise record a national league record for home runs in a season we're trying to break the wins record for the 53 team which was also defined in a lot of ways by its ability to hit home runs there were four Hall of Famers in the lineup in 1953 Jackie Robinson Pee Wee Reese Roy Campanella Duke Snider it's not even to mention they had the Rookie of the Year in Jim Gilliam they had the batting champ Carl Furillo and then Gil Hodges at first base so a lot of people think should be in the Hall of Fame you talk about lineup length lineup depth my gosh average better than six runs per game in that 1953 season Duke Snider hit 42 home runs second in the league Campanella had 41 Hodges had 32 so they have three of the top six home run hitters that went to the World Series lost to the Yankees there's also Vince Coley's first World Series four years removed from school at that point four pitch walk for Taylor the first to reach here in the eighth [Music] oh one more opportunity for Muncie you think he talked his way into this it looked like it was planned because he made it out and his last at-bat and never left the field to stay dirt first base took off his batting gloves and waited for his glove for defense to come out so no there was no waving from Dave Roberts there was no begging from Max Muncie but he has another opportunity matched last year's home run total last night with his 35th he's sitting at 98 driven in [Music] a couple ducks on the pond here in the eighth nobody out I'm gonna splash it to get up 100 oh yeah six straight balls delivered by gustave a and it's to now more action down in that giant smoke thing [Applause] on at Tuol Muncie takes ball three [Applause] [Applause] the culture battle right there you swing 300 because you got a chance for the RBIs or do you take because culture you should max I think had the green light but said I'm gonna take three one green suit with a few times he won't be upset with that borderline call one more shot here because of this low noise strike [Music] on three two Muncie fouls it off we'll do it again that one stretched the limits to where he would swing at something but fortunately got the foul ball on a ball there's about eight inches outside one more shot here it is maybe another [Applause] if you ever find yourself at going into the last start right obviously the scoreless inning streak but any other landmarks who are trying to reach right at the end of his season like this would be the next year saying the Tommy I mean they're gonna take the loss or I'm gonna get a win and I'll pitch forever and that was to try and get back to 500 that's a walk to load the bases I was like don't take me out on these are gonna get the L I want to get a win and get back to 500 career no just for that season oh okay you sing I gotcha yeah I had I don't think I had losing records so and that up to that point so I was like I don't want to have a losing record I'd rather have be two games under 500 than one game with a no-decision or whatever so go for it and I think he let me go and I got the I got the win all right probably led to my arm reconstruction but you finish to 500 buddy yeah exactly take that to the bank and the scription exactly thank you dr. Joe three walks today for Muncie six for the Dodgers total actually seven for the Dodgers total in addition to two hit batsman dead jerko is o for two he is twice swung at the first pitch grounded into a double play and flied to Center takes this one [Applause] [Applause] good pep talk no out face is loaded get two quick strikes got him swinging one away [Applause] [Music] you're speeding okay so you kind of buried the lead and what you did in that final start an ad and you went 11 innings to get the win that's I said it didn't matter if that led to Mike arm reconstruction how many pitches 169 yeah I think was the eye of Ekron here's your arm still sore from that day on a Ted Tommy I will go forever to get this win oh did I end up 16 and 16 or something I think 15 and 15 or 15 the days of 30 decisions in the season the days of 169 pitches in a game the days of a manager that would let you do it and then keep his job yeah and the manager that pitched both halves of a doubleheader same thing as Don Newcombe has pitched that both halves of a doubleheader those guys cut of a different flaw in a different era Beaty down the line following to Boston Barnes gonna get an opportunity here 111 innings still laughing at that point it was like wow great performance but not that crazy now it's like you can't even weekend is unfathomable now right Fernando used to rack up some pitch counts [Music] one more big hit and this officially be like a spring training game [Applause] then I keep get rid of the school yeah he'll be the end and the regulars can go home yeah in the shower [Music] boy with today's salaries that guys could charter a plane and leave before the game's over [Applause] the one to ladies swings and misses to our and Barnes will bat here with the bases loaded in two gone remember last year speaking of travel after game 162 knew the Dodgers didn't know if they were going to be heading home to play a tiebreaker or there were a couple of other scenarios too to Chicago or Milwaukee potentially to play the wild-card game and there were a bunch of different scenarios coming down the stretch last year same Park same city same game number it's completely different tone and suitcase Barnes cracks the first pitch that he sees past a diving shortstop into left that'll bring home to Austin Barnes a pinch at two run single and the Dodgers lead at eight nothing what a good feeling the boost Austin Barnes into the offseason Austin didn't wait around very long come off the bench swinging like a lot of pinch-hitters do first thing you see you can reach get loose on it ain't nothing in the eighth and here's Smith two run home run and he's been hit twice I say to loose austin into the offseason but it would not be unprecedented for the Dodgers to carry three catchers they've done it before and those that are slightly off the postseason roster get asked to stay hot and to stay ready just in case there's an injury and so definitely if Austin Barnes doesn't make the first playoff roster he will be someone that they will want to keep in shape and keep sharp you know with really just one game outcome really mandarin or two game outcomes really mattering today in terms of the races there are other little things to track in the final day of the season including the all-time home run record chase Yankees entered the day with 305 twins with 304 for the most ever in a season Yankees have won today so there are 306 the twins have three to passim 307 Wow Niki's and their last at-bat 9th inning twins are on the tie game in the bottom of the ninth so if you had the two home runs champions and the Minnesota Twins setting the all-time home run record you really be a big winner yeah yeah right so layer in the American League Alonso in the National League and the twins all-time Smith hits it sharply off to the globe will do Bowen and in the left to bring on Muncie [Applause] for Will Smith the militant 9 nothing [Music] and that's gonna do it for this table a Bruce Bochy comes out for what could be his final pitching change as the skipper the eighth against Gavin Lux being a left-handed hitter he will see more sliders than fast balls but if he does see the fast volatile average above 95 miles an hour [Music] [Applause] lux 1 for 3 today the bases-loaded walk his last time to get his 9th RBI he's got Barnes at 3rd and Smith at first one ball one strike Julio risks taste again 1 & 2 another first for Gavin looks when you face pitchers around the league and especially in September with all these different arms pick up the spin on the breaking ball that one's a big sweeper you have to learn to read swings and misses the one that gets by the ricochets right back to Garcia keep the doors locks out to end the inning for the Dodgers add three and have a 9-month a relief at the bottom of the eighth all right thanks guys Wow 106 wins that's a lot of wins but we need 11 more in the postseason coming up right after the game we'll look forward to the division series and our top 10 plays of the year stay with us can't wait for that guys is Julio Reyes comes on for the bottom of the eighth the Dodgers up by a bunch one final tuneup for the lefty it's always exciting to see him pitch the thing that is really improved with him is his slider it's gotten bigger sharper he's gotten more depth and exciting weapon for him to take into October who's going to be an integral piece through the Dodger bullpen whether it is a left-handed specialist or for length as far as like three innings you could get out of it upstairs of the first one to Brandon Belt [Music] Dodgers won game 162 here last year 15 nothing they didn't this one 9 nothing that hang out it'd be the first time in 13 years that they've won as many as 12 games in a season against the Giants [Applause] and it would be 106 wins a franchise-record what a start to a managerial career [Applause] versus skeptics will say okay he needs to win a World Series before you start talking about greatest arts ever that he's able to do that you're looking at first four seasons 100 wins twice division titles all four years pennants three consecutive seasons and then you added in the World Series that is as good of the first four seasons as you would find in a long long time for mana to the fifth [Music] well deserved success too every portion of it well respected in the locker room while respected in the community great communication with the front office and ownership done a fantastic job - - to belt [Applause] [Music] [Applause] leadoff walk [Applause] [Music] Dodgers clenched on September 10 this year still have been able to win games consistently even with nothing totally tangible to play for yeah you could say the home-field advantage for the World Series but that's searching for motivation still found a way to let's say go 18 and 6 in September which would be the second-best September in franchise history I think the thing that kept him sharp was internal competition and they continued through the whole year I mean you bring up Dustin Mae and Tony Johnson you add Will Smith and Gavin Gavin Lux to the mix and all of a sudden every day there's an edge there for at-bats for a roster spot I think it would have been a little different story if all of a sudden you just had a set roster and these are the 25 these are the 27 that are in the competition and not really a competition I think that inside competition has been great for the coaching staff and for Dave Roberts to keep everybody's focused wanted to on Davis than having clinched with three weeks left fifty three team they're trying to pass in terms of wins they clinched on September 13th and did what clinching teams do and enjoyed themselves soon probably had one or two too many that night the next day Duke Snider had a 27-game hitting streak going as that's kind of an act and a base hit for Davis put together a little gentlemen's agreement with the Cubs starting pitcher that day and said look I got this hitting streak going you know what happened last night right we had a good time you gotta groove me some pitches and let me keep this hitting streak going here comes Kevin Pilar and so the agreement they had was that the pitcher would groove in the fuel and that he would intentionally get picked off first base after getting ahead well the pitcher is giving them but Duke just can't seem to get ahead he goes over clear with a couple case comes up in the eighth inning one more chance in the picture and I wish this to hate just Barnes and I'm gonna let you get on that way okay so Duke squares around the bar that pops out to a third my street dance - I'm nobody out and arias - Pilar [Applause] really good hands of Kevin come on we sataek for you here in his first season in San Francisco fired in a trade in the opening days of the season [Applause] he has some serious shoes on today these are beyond Wow highlighters and took that swing to the bottom that bright neon yellow and the whole bottom [Applause] what it was out of the morning too [Music] [Applause] these are the first base runners for the Giants by the way since the second inning and that single for Jim and Davis just their second hit first one was a two-out hit from Posey in the first a [Applause] one two from Maria Pilar pops it up off the hands Muncey's there [Applause] one out here Solano grounded as short Hernandes deluxe a double-play let's go to the ninth here in game 162 the Dodgers all over the giants night nothing thousand I'd seen and it's been so fun enjoying it all with you at home Joe Davis or Hershiser Alanna Rizzo as always on the field and so this is it for us final game of the regular season and now Rick and Charlie take over for the postseason on radio it's been a magnificent year the Dodgers have given us so much to cheer about and to talk about and to think you know right down to the last day here with the news of possibly having the franchise record in victories now seeing rich he'll be healthy see and Joe Kelly be healthy and things starting to really come together maybe for that extra special 2019 of course you can still watch pre and postgame coverage here on Sportsnet la with Alanna and John and the guys in studio strike one on Hernandez so thank you to you the fan who like this is special as it is you enjoy this ride with everybody at home each night a ball one strike and thanks to our production crew led by producer Mike Lee be the glue that holds it all together that man some funny glue I thought we worked under Ken Rosenthal after the dress-up day all right so this costume can you guys turn around his side by side of that I don't like leave you probably won't let it happen but he filed that away way away Mike Levine our producer has been confused for Ken Rosenthal before in fact one time Tommy Lasorda even wanted to take out as something that that Ken had written I think that he started to say to Mike like hey I want to talk to you thinking that Mike was the one who had written this thing that Tommy wanted to ask him about dead ringer the screw needs a lot of glue and he is that I posted a picture of Mike levy as Ken Rosenthal on Twitter and Ken Rosenthal the actual one texted me and said that tweet is absolutely amazing and I said yes oftentimes in Florida has thought that Mike was actually you he said there's nobody in baseball that hates me more than game 162 he was ditto on his mic just go out its cliffhanger Tommy turned it off one away in the ninth for Peterson seriously though and we have you have a coal crew that travels with us but especially back to the full crew in Los Angeles there is no better production crew than our group at home those that we get to take on the road with us throughout the country as well Dodger baseball night in and night out we talk about the players grinding it out through the season and the dog days of August and then clinching early but the crew continues to do that on a daily basis from setting us up to breaking us down after the game is over to getting us back on the air the next day working a lot longer and harder hours than any of us that's for sure wanted to [Applause] got the red shades going for Joc today pop it the lenses are so good on the glasses nowadays even in my day they I didn't understand how hitters could hit with them as far as the perception the depth perception never really could get used to them these guys have really gotten used to them and I think the lenses are so good it actually enhances their vision a little bit Rogers 1/2 and Peterson muscles it up the middle on a bounce in short new bone [Applause] six plate appearance for Chris Taylor two hits two walks today one last at-bat in 2019 before the second season begins it is the second season that Dodger fans almost assume who's going to happen Dodgers have spoiled him over the last seven years we go from we're gonna be in the playoffs again and how are we gonna do - we'll have I nervous it's starting Tayler off the end of the barrel laugh seeking and they said he's on for the fifth consecutive time and he's got a three-hit day in the finale barrels are overrated shake as he comes back to first base they sure have been today for my yeah his exit velocity on that ground ball up the middle and now the exit velocity on that one I don't think they total up to a hundred barely used to be the signal forget the the bees out of my hands when you get jammed now it's a single signal for us a weak hit but a much appreciated hit same idea though right well you could get the bees out of your hand and it was an out now they do it only when they did a hit and Chris after a bit of a rough stretch over about ten days gonna finish off the regular season by going for four five with two walks and his final seven plate appearances and look it's Muncie with another chance to get to 100 RBIs he's had a chance at see now five consecutive plate appearances not gotten at Sunday hit over two or three walks three-on-one here Ross stripling a fourth walk and you don't think max months he knows how many RBIs he's got look at that reaction been watching the body language when he has been disappointed in himself today and when he's been disappointed in the opposing pitchers that have not thrown him strikes ix walk for Dodger hitters in this game strike on jedd gyorko knife the right-center field Yastrzemski will flag it down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] since we'll go all the way back to the first first one scoring play of the game of faces for a double Centauri seizure he has been very hot and continued that today and boy it is nice to see a guy that has had mvp-type years to be back healthy and used to playing well Ross stripling one final appearance in the regular season a little bit of a tune up I think this is a clue that he'll probably be on the postseason roster making sure this inning of work gets him continued to be ready and not at a place where he could get stale [Music] and so the final half-inning of Bruce Bochy's managerial career barring an unforeseen return for him top of the order Mauricio de Beaune the plains first pitch a little bit low no doubt he will end up in the Hall of Fame universally respected would be five years from now and but if he takes another managerial job comes back into baseball you'd have to wait five years after he retires from that job parts the nine seasons as a player in the majors as a catcher Houston and the Mets in San Diego for the sensor is is skimmed along the division so the Dodgers have got to know him very well over the last twenty five years first in San Diego then in San Francisco one ball two strikes undo bone one of 25 managers to have at least a thousand victories with one organization it's quite an accomplishment a chaise in and out one away in the night [Music] [Applause] there's quite a legacy and it is going to be a tough act to follow Mehta who they bring in but a how great he is no matter how prepared he is he won't be Bruce Bochy and it will take the fans here some time to get used to [Applause] [Music] my kiss gremsky you wonder what Bruce's emotions are at this moment it's been eight he announced before the season that this would be it and they've taken great care of him as the season has gone on every step of the way every stop getting gifts whatever city it is that he goes to a lot of ceremonies here over the final few weeks he's finally reached the end of the end he has said that some of the walks have really gotten to him where he's gotten sentimental and walked from the clubhouse and wriggly out to the field walk in some of the concourse as you walk from the team bus to the locker room coming down the elevator at Dodger Stadium to get down to the visiting Clubhouse most of them to left-center he escapes T over the base ship kind of the nostalgic things that you'll remember when you run into other people or talk to some of the security guards or people that are we help out in the clubhouse but those relationships will always be there but you won't be passing those people anymore and he does look a little bit extra contemplative here is this final inning goes on Aramis Garcia ball one what a career and it's one thing to have success in terms of wins and losses but it's another to be just completely utterly universally admired and respected and that is regardless of the wins and losses we could have gone all in 2000 and people would still talk about what kind of amazing man he is [Applause] - along [Music] [Applause] ah Ross stripling trying to finish off the Dodgers 18th shutout have been good at hitting the home run and scoring runs and they have been good at keeping their earned run average down and preventing runs sky high flyball to centerfield but no big deal for Chris Taylor it eventually comes down to out here on the nine Alex Dickerson so the Dodgers awful for the next few days the watch the wild-card game on Tuesday let's see who the opponent will be want to be Max Scherzer pitching the national stool win or the Brewers find a way to keep this magical run could insinuate ball one on Dickerson find out on Tuesday and then Thursday night Game one of the division series who's then Friday be at Dodgers Stadium off days Saturday Sunday and Monday ins 3 & 4 will be either in Washington or in Milwaukee on ball once right we'll find out in these coming days what the rotation will look like no the past care crease is going to be but as far as the order workouts and Inter squad games scheduled to keep them sharp [Applause] flagged down the line to line baby comes on and then makes the catch the Dodgers in 2019 a new franchise record 106 wins congratulations Dave Roberts Los Angeles Dodgers what a fantastic year it has been so far and we hope you have more in store for us the rest of this 2019 129 years at Dodger baseball the single best regular season and franchise history over those 106 wins and now Bruce Bochy getting it praised by the sellout crowd the postgame ceremony to honor him lot of his former players that includes Dave Roberts who played four seasons form two in San Diego - here in San Francisco the Hall of Fame career comes to a close today as Bruce Bochy is tenure with the Giants and so does the regular season for Hershiser Alanna Rizzo on the rest of our crew Joe Davis Saints so long from San Francisco when the Dodgers finished off the best regular season in franchise history with a nine not that win over the San Francisco Giants finish off the regular season with a season best seven-game winning streak October is next [Music] you
