the Yankees entertainment and Sports Network [Music] gorgeous Tuesday early evening hearing st. Pete but we're playing under a dome today at the Trop where it is time for baseball as the YES Network presents New York Yankees baseball and tonight it's the New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Rays in the first of two from Tropicana Field and say hi everybody and welcome to Yankees baseball along with Ken singleton Oh Mike okay this is an important series for both teams the Rays were trying to get into the tournament the Yankees are trying to get home-field advantage throughout the big part of what the Yankees have been doing of late has been Aaron Judge Aaron judge both as the right fielder and EH has been outstanding with the bat of late this kind of reminds me of his rookie year when he had 52 home runs he's hitting home runs to all parts of the ballpark and the Yankees are hoping this is the right time of season for him to get hot because the playoffs are looming the judge is swinging a hot bat this is inside he's pulling to the left field bleachers here at Yankee Stadium and he can go the right-field as well judge is on a wall and the Yankees hope it continues into the postseason have you taken look at his numbers of late they really do jump out at you he's been that good in his last 31 games hitting 311 the 14 homers the most in the American League since August 16th 22 of each 27 runs scored and look at that Oh PS you'd love to see that for an entire season now the wildcard standings the A's have the number one seat right now with a 94 and 62 record the Rays and the Indians essentially are tied both with 64 losses one of those teams who can be on the outside looking in despite having a great year so there's a lot of pressure on the Rays in the series that's certainly - Michael the Yankees of course their fans know that they've already gone through that velvet rope if you will they're in the Big Dance but the Rays are still on the outside getting their IDs checked are they gonna make it are they not they've got five games left in the regular season realistically to me gotta win them all to make sure absolutely - make sure you do so let's take a look in this one brought you by People's United Bank Jordan Montgomery makes this first start since May 1st of last year the only Chirinos is going to be the opener for the Tampa Bay Rays but the big note is that CC Sabathia is expected to pitch tonight that will be his first relief appearance of the regular season in his illustrious career Murdock Baracus has more with Aaron Boone on that when we return on yes visit PWD live.com for volkswagen peeler near you by Papa John's getting large pizza with any toppings for just $12 by peoples United pay with individual financial solution because there's only one you now by the New York loitering get out there and play judge not showing too much pressure as the Yankees head to the postseason playing with the Rays mascot the Rays have taken the field so why don't we take a look at the Yankee starting a lot of brought to you by Lexus Yankees coming to 102 and 55 and they'll lead off their first baseman DJ LeMahieu Erin judge and right field batting second hitting third the second baseman labor Torres the pH tonight cleaning up Giancarlo Stan CEO or shell at third base will about 50 loafers last 15 didi Gregorius the shortstop will bat sixth batting seventh playing centerfield camera David Austin bromine will bat the left fielder Tyler wave on the mound for the Tampa Bay Rays twenty five-year-old right-hander Yanni Chirinos those are his numbers on the season pretty good 95 3.67 e ra and his whip is something like just over 1 so he's had a pretty good season for these rich let's check out our pitchers scouting report won't you buy your local Honda dealers he's a familiar foe with this start tonight he has appeared in every series that the Rays of play the Yankees is here all six of them he's got a heavy sinker good hard sinking fastball and he's recently back from the IL he had some finger issues an inflammation of the middle finger on his throwing hand and this will be his first start he's actually a appear to relief before this but the other rays are counting on him if they make the postseason be able to contribute yeah he didn't pitch from August 4th until Saturday because of the pain and his right little finger he has a defense behind that's gonna line up this way is presented by Geico BAM kiermaier and Meadows left to right in the outfield Indian field is Duffy Adamas Wendell and Troy that stirred the first or no being on the plate and on the mound is Yanni Chirinos mega-important games for the Rays is they're trying to get into the tournament the Yankees are in their tickets been punched LeMay is ready Chirinos is ready and let's do it here in st. Pete first pitch is a strike we're underway Gabe Morales the home plate umpire Cory blazer at first the crew chief Jerry meals at second and Ron Kulpa is over at third yeah I do like the fact that the Yankees still playing for best record that gives him something to go for in this last week of the season and it's a balancing act Kenny you don't want to get anybody hurt but you do want to put a representative line about there because it's only fair to the Cleveland Indians and the Oakland Athletics as well these games mean something to those two teams and they're their players in the lineup they'll have something to shoot for I mean lebed's got 99 runs batted in I mean he's one swing away from reaching a hundred high flyball right-field Meadows puts it away one down [Music] you know we haven't been in here since July but for some reason looks awfully dark in here tonight [Music] it's like you're waiting for them to turn up the light it's also pretty pretty hot and humid in here as well kind of a hot day outside here in st. Pete there's Aaron judge grounded left side Duffy - way well let's look at the game time weather presented by Bigelow T 84 degrees humidity 55% not much wind but it doesn't matter we're under a roof it's warm and calm outside cool and clear under the dome that's that cool it's all relative you should have been here in July she's a big fan of the race here's Glaber tours back in the lineup ABA he's too scared trying to make a play off the middle kind of lost his footing legs felt weak hamstring was a concern they put him in the MRI tube and everything came back with good results so they gave him a couple of days off now back in the lineup tonight and that play I saw that on television look like it was a groin strain waiting to happen and you know if they're you all right that happened to you and I would still be out you still be out on that field I mean it something - did something to be said about big 22 years old very flexible and in strong while they play in the pull dumpy is deep and very close to the line at third the shortstop Adam has moves into the hole and Wendell is on the left side murder if you spoke to Glaber Michael he said in that situation he was more scared than anything else that he had done something as opposed to actually feeling the pain and the Yankees were pretty sure that Glaber was okay but obviously wanted to make sure that there was nothing going on after he complained of some leg soreness so that's why they sent him for that MRI which came back clean Glaber told me the other day that he felt like he could play in the lineup on Saturday and Sunday but the Yankees obviously being completely cautious with him wanting to make sure that he's an available player for the postseason but Aaron Boone said today he doesn't think there'll be any ill effects from that situation with flavor there well better safe than sorry certainly in this case he's so important to what they're trying to do 3-1 right to Wendell that'll do it two three if the inky's nothing and the Tampa Bay Rays come in the back turn against Jordan Montgomery so let's take a look at the starting lineup brought to you by Lexus Tommy Pham and Love Field will lead off that exactly the right fielder Austin metals case use Aguilar is the DHL hit third cleaning up the catcher Travis d'Arnaud g-man Choi is at first base batting fifth batting sixth playing third base Matt Duffy Joey Wendell is the second baseman batting seventh batting eighth the playing shortstop Willie a Dallas and Kevin kiermaier is the centerfielder he's well let's take a look at George Montgomery's numbers from last season only six starts eventually had to go on the thin disabled list of the aisle now and you'd see he was in a pitching pretty well for the Yankees until he was injured let's check out our pitcher scouting report board you by your local Honda dealers a long road back this is his first start since May 1st of last year and would he be CC Sabathia replacement in the rotation 2020 and I'll get to his chase rate in just a moment it's the fam is hi I want to know Montgomery gets hitters to chase 33% of his pitches that he throws out of the strike zone that's a pretty good chase rate in other words he could make pitches look good that really are one-on-one on Pam race just completed a series that the Red Sox fam was one for 16 in that series you want to keep him off base he has 23 stolen bases Skye the other way on the run into the corner is judge and he makes the play for the first out take a look at the Yankee defense presented by Geico so we'll start with judge and right Maven's at center and waged it left throw the other way in the infield is Rachelle a Gregorius Torres and LeMay you Romines behind the plate Jordan Montgomery is on the mouth good to see Montgomery back on the man you know Tommy John surgery especially for a pitcher mean that's your precious left arm he was dealing with in the good to see him throwing the ball as well as he is Austin Meadows takes the strike Tampa Bay Writers voted on the most valuable player of the Rays and meadows tied with tomorrow's starter Charlie Morton and Kevin Kasten I'm glad it ended a tie I could not choose between those two metals rockets a single a right field Meadows has been hot going down the stretch still have several other raised hitters with that base hit he's now hitting 20 of his last 21 games so he's hitting up trying to get his rays into the playoffs solid line drive single to right field with one out here's hey soos Aguilar Aguilar is bad it twice against Montgomery two for two with a home run what a difference a year makes last year Aguilar made the National League all-star team and he finished 16th of MVP voting now here he is on the Rays now he has played some first base but primarily he's been the D H is coming over here that arrays Wow yeah drop-off this year and that's one reason why he's with the race 33 home runs 104 runs batted in through September 23rd of last year that's why maybe all-star team whose trade it to the raised at the trade deadline were Jake Faria [Music] and he's been better since the trade and Kevin catch the Rays manager said makes our front office look really smart doesn't it [Applause] Montgomery mid-90s fastball maybes low to mid-90s good curveball changeup I'll tell you what he was a very effective pitcher before his injury he felt comfortable when he was on the math good to see him back now the University of South Carolina since July 5th Aguilar sitting 297 which pushed his average up from 203 the 243 so his cash said certainly made the race front-office see a diamond in the rough get them at a fairly low cost and the pitch strike 3 Aguilar down low K not too happy well spotted fastball look like it that might have caught a hint of the lower end of the strike zone maybe a seam even though the seams aren't as high this year on the ball but it's called strike three I look good from this angle here's Travis d'Arnaud it's another hot red he's got a seven game hitting streak going I thought razors supposed to be hot though right all the time x-rays sun rays and got to hope the Yankees brought their sunscreen with them tell you what jar Noah it's kind of saved this career here and against the egg easy done big work four homers and nine rubies and 13 games started the season with the Mets then the Dodgers now the Rays but he's he's found a home here at the Rays had a walk-off against the Yankees earlier this year here at Tropicana feeling of course the Tropicana still that's released amount Mather just released them Dodgers signed him two days later and then after one game they traded him to Tampa Bay for cash speaking of cash he's raised the one for the last five fifth season he's just 41 last year third for manager of the year the American League the Rays have played well against every other team with the exception of the Yankees the Yankees kind of handled him this year Yankees are 12 and 5 against Tampa Bay and Kappa Bay's been outscored 95 to 50 by the Yankees in those 17 games you know one thing as you look at the series numbers coming up here look at the Yankees with runners in scoring position thank goodness in the ER a and arrays a third in baseball in earned run average line to left field then it's a big hit cutting over his weed he's gonna have to play it off the wall Meadows will stop at third it's going to be a double for d'Arnaud second if there are two men out now don't know continues as good hitting against the Yankees this year let's see what happens here with this pitch right in the middle of the plate looks like a change if you just kind of sat there and he ropes it even the speed of pala Wayne can't cut it off he does a good job of playing it off the wall and making sure that meadows does not score from first base watch it boom right back to him and he gets the ball in quickly here is g-man choy second and third two outs want to know the race had a big win here last night they were down for nothing to the Red Sox and they had a six run fourth inning Kevin cash your manager said it was their best offensive inning of the year they had three home runs that inning and the big one g-man Choi got him back in the game with a three-run homer then they got a solo shot from Brendon Lau to tie the game and Willy Adamas hit a two-run homers in the same inning to put them in the lead they didn't give it up well they've been flirting with disaster right in the middle of a a wild card race they've trailed in their last seven games they've trailed in 13 of their last 14 games but over that time they're nine and five so they do come back two and one on Choi we were speaking of the numbers the Yankees said how well they played against the Rays the Rays have allowed the fewest home runs in the league the Yankees have hit 32 in 17 games so they haven't slowed the Yankee basket grounded foul these are the situations where the Rays have stumbled against the Yankee's they have just one hit in their last 24 bats with runners in scoring position against New York chew and chew on joy with runners on second and third ran to [Applause] Duffy's on deck did he go yes he did joy strikes out so there one for the last 25 no runs two hits no errors two men left on base did he go you decide the third base umpire Ron Kulpa city hit go and we go to the second contenders you to make it heat postseason Ron and wine one of our respondents the Oakland A's because they give both of their potential alts opponent Yankees in the Astros some trouble this year plus their eat lineup and bullpen make them dangerous in October follow the S network and tweet us your responses using hashtag Yankees pretty fun keep the conversation going I think all three teams could be dangerous and the Indians get back Jose Ramirez today they did and plus it you know their starters this starting pitching is just tremendous and of course the Yankees have seen these rays all season long here's Stanton against Chirinos who worked a 1-2-3 first pitch outside Michael you kind of surprised the stamps come back with such ferocity at the he's swinging the bat pretty well he looks very comfortable he's tracking pitches while that is surprising but Aaron Buddha said that he's really taking a lot of at-bats in rehab which doesn't approximate we've seen the big league level but he's comfortable in the box I saw that home run he hit the other day at Yankee Stadium did it land yet [Applause] did you see that new promo with him about how and much he enjoys playing for the Yankees now I did it in New York in New York City and he says his favorite borough is Stanton island tremendous they had to remind them to it's Staten Island he said no it's Stanton island top right side Wendell one away here in the second well in the early going it seems the Chirinos his sinker is in force he's got two three the four a sore on the ground [Music] now geo or Shella really is happy to see Chirinos and he is Oprah's last 15 but against Chirinos he's 6 for 7 with a home run so you're just about calling a shot here you believe in do all right well I believe in do and I also believe there are certain pictures that don't have much for you and they know it and you know it doesn't take much of a mistake for you to get a hit to right field hit it hard for writing meadows you just seem to pick up the ball a lot easier too from certain pictures and Hersch LOL though he made it out and he's old 416 sometimes you look at the way hitters make out and hit the ball and that would tell you maybe he's seen the ball a little bit better and he's found somebody on the mad at the he kind of likes and you can see how Marcus Tim's greeted him as it's a that that's what we're looking for don't get down about not getting a hit here's didi Gregorius Gregorius is not like his offensive game since coming up the IL historian nj.com he said you know what I'm paraphrasing is that I pretty much think this year so he has not felt comfortable at the plate still has 16 homers and 58 ribbies yeah my thought is we've seen Dede perform in the postseason and has been pretty good so you know you would take an O for you know not hitting well and last week and then get hot for the next month when all the marbles are on the table why don't you could change your from Torinos skies get good stuff this one just doesn't get they're having a little fade to it as well [Applause] two and two tried it again according to Baseball America Kenny they do an annual Festool survey be a managers coaches scouts and executives and Chirinos was picked as having the best changeup in the American League Wow Louise Castile got the nod in the nationally - - you know Michael you've heard me espouse the fact that you know when you're a young pitcher or a young kid and learning how to pitch learn how to throw a changeup it can be a very very effective keep everybody off it makes your fastball look better hi flyball left-center kiermaier is on the run and antes again go down an order one two three will go to the bottom of the second nothing nothing [Music] Jordan Montgomery fourth round pick by the Yankees in 2014 now in 2017 twenty nine starts nine and seven three point eight eight a really good year he made six starts in 2018 to 103 point six two walked off the mound after one inning on May 1st under one Tommy John surgery June 7th and this is his first start he has appeared before in relief but this is his first start since May 1st of last year Duffey cakes outside Duffy has had an injury-riddled season 60-day Ioana left hamstring tightness he dumps that one in the left field for a base hit in front of wave [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well you have not seen this ever in the prestigious 19 year big-league career of CC Sabathia during a regular season game he is walking to the bullpen and he is officially a believer now he has relieved once in his career in 2011 in the ALDS against Detroit that was after his start was shortened by rain and CC Sabathia will work out of the bullpen today and probably one more time this week remember at the players weekend when Mike Harkey Warhawk back of his jersey not CC I'm not cc many a time of fans with with state party up on the field ask him for autographs he thought it was CC party was good picture in his own right but he was right-handed if you haven't had the chance yet to see the videos that the Yankees put together for Sabathia Sunday at the stadium moving emotional he was crying standing there in front of home plate watching them for the first time they just did a great job and it was amazing Kenny very well done impressive the letters that his children his wife Amber Amanda's mom Margy read or just you could see a really heartfelt see see before the game tonight was here with his wife Amber and they spoke to some children from Boys and Girls Club once again they do it many cities around the country locked by Romine and they do this in every city and DC credits the Boys and Girls Club when he's growing up in Vallejo California we're making him get on the path to this great career he said he met Dave Stewart when he was nine years old that a Boys and Girls Club and it changed his life Stewart changed man a few times but I was hitting this is what you were talking about it [Music] strike drain one deled down-looking third strikeout for Montgomery again a well-placed fastball well maybe not target was in but it still got the strike zone damn it away Wendell takes yeah that plenty of the plate game Morales with the call strike three here's Willie Adamas the shortstop 20 home runs then Heller getting ready for the Yankees in their pen you know Michael we just saw the call strike three from Gabe Morales and it seems to me that a lot of umpires have the same way a college ball two strikes in it you know back in the day every yumpire you can stab their unique way especially on call strike three you just I've kind of missed that seems like personality has been legislated out but why I mean it's part of the show with us hey any Dutch Rennert had a great call strike but players are so they're so wrapped up in their brand you think they'd want to be embarrassed by Ron Luciano punch in the mouth hit the ball I'm not advocating one way or the other I'm just trying to you know why it's not that way I understand but I'm just saying you know Dutch Rennert you mentioned Luciano there's a couple other empires you just you didn't want to take that call strikes right I mean nobody was louder than Dutch Rennert people outside of the stadium - it was called strike three one two if Tom Hallion he's a veteran umpire he's got you know he pulls the chain he's got it he's got good call strike break but players don't hear that you know they don't see it you're facing the other way they did you know I mean he really punches you out grounded to third there's one on the first not in time the ball wasn't hit very hard the Yankees came very close to turning the - Thomas has good speed going down the line he avoids hitting it to the double play or shallow cuts of privity DD which track ii de torres upon the LeMahieu and adamas just beats the relay you can see he was in there so he reaches on the fielder's choice here's Kevin kiermaier we talked about the co-mvp voted on by the riders and kiermaier was voted the best race player in terms of what he does on the field and in the community and he is also their representative where the nominee for the Roberto Clemente award an award I know is very special to you Kenny you won that award yeah it is in fact it sits on my desk at home and back in the day just one person they didn't have nominees just one person wanted now every team has to nominate another good stop by Rome and he said several tonight in the dirt and CC Sabathia is the Yankee nominee this year it should be interesting it's know and honor the late Roberto Clemente who died in service to others flying on a mercy flight to Nicaragua plane crashed after an earthquake he was bringing supplies but it's you look at the people who've won that award over the year out lighters one yeah [Music] kiermaier is the nominee but lately he hadn't been hitting nice why he's hitting ninth he's won for his last 27 as one of the few Rays it hasn't been swinging well lately as they close out the regular season did he go nope [Music] but one thing kiermaier always does you can play some centerfield chatter back slow roller and torez makes the play for the final of no runs a hit no errors and one man left on base we played to nothing nothing I guess doing more Gary Sanchez and Edwin Encarnacion are not available players tonight they aren't getting much closer as you see Gary Sanchez taken some swings in the cage also ran the bases a little bit and for the first time he caught some bullpens both James Paxton and Masahiro Tanaka prior to that he had been doing some defensive work in the cage Edwin Encarnacion standing in during one of those bullpen sessions he also hit in the cage today Aaron Boone said that Encarnacion was pushing to be in the lineup either tonight or tomorrow but Boone seemed to think that having the off day on Thursday and giving him again players runs and their two hundred and ninety-ninth of the year while we talked about hitters being comfortable against certain pitchers and mavens done well against Torinos in the past [Applause] there's Austin Roman and that's grounded softly third-base Duffy feels and makes a play he's now 4 for 4 of Torinos with three home runs make that three for three with two home runs we'll wait for his next at-bat against it you just see some pictures well 14 players with 10 or more home runs never before in Major League history has that been done now the Yankees will one away from 300 on the season 300 home runs that's amazing chop to first [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Meredith may been rudely interrupted you I know you want to finish how dare he call it for you but I knew it was a big one so I want to do that but anyway it looks like both Sanchez and Encarnacion are going to be active in Texas so it looks like both of those guys will likely make it back before the end the season Aaron Boone still staying and Carr nación a little bit further ahead than Sanchez but in speaking with Sanchez he seemed pretty confident and he'd make an appearance in Texas they were both hitting rockets out of here in batting practice Sanchez hit one in a raised egg way out there in right-center field you mentioned this earlier Kenny that LeMay was 99 rupees he was interviewed on the field after the game on Sunday I was shocked when he came right out and said you know what I'd really like to get a hundred RBIs he never talks about personal goals but he said that that's something that would be special for him so he's got this one and four more games to try to get it done well if all season long he's been great with runners in scoring position but right now being at the plate he's in scoring position for that well 100 RBIs once you've done it do you want to do it every year and what's really impressive he's done it mostly from the top of the order grounded is short Adamas and that'll do it but Cameron Maybin makes a little history as he sends one over the wall his tenth home run of the year the Yankees 299 one nothing game [Music] new pitcher for the Yankees it's Ben Heller this be his fourth game also coming back from Tommy John surgery and I'll face the top of the order starting a Tommy Pam wanna know so now the Rays have trailed in their last eight straight games and 14 of the last 15 three and OH the Tommy Pham is among the league leaders and walks that is used to getting a head on counts [Music] another picture on the man who's had to deal with Tommy John surgery Ben Heller is it called strike on the inside corner popped up the infielders and bromine deal with the roof and Romine makes the play [Applause] [Music] take a look at baby Tom pronto statcast AI powered by AWS 105.7 mile far up the back travel 429 feet I don't know if we've seen a home run lately less than 420 where's Austin Meadows - single - right the first inning want to know Meadows made the all-star team this year and as part of the deal people from Pittsburgh with Tyler glass now and both of both of them have done a great job last now just recently returning from an injury way back in May when the Yankees were here he had to leave a game and he's only returned recently I'll tell you what that deal for the Pirates at this point is just dreadful they got Chris Archer and everything that could go wrong for the Pirates has gone wrong this year and then training to young players like meadows it flies now you only make that deal if you think you're going to contend they certainly have not contended take a look at the league leaders presented by your local tri-state Volkswagen dealers and Meadows is fifth in the American League and slugging this year and against the Yankees at 6:27 slugging that won't get past teller and everything just unraveled one off the glove of a fellow so Mena's will read probably be a base hit [Applause] now once the ball got past her it looked like if he catches the ball he's gonna take it himself he doesn't come up with it and then it looked like he was trying to get out of the way and let Torrez cover first base meanwhile nobody caught the ball and menos should be credited with an infield single I think if either one of them would caught the ball he would have been out they have still not scored it now they give an error Wow an error to with me that no that's a terrible call the throw was right over the bag if you have to give an error there you almost give it to Heller for first miss playing the ball and then not being there to get in the Dro giving it to la mayor doesn't make any sense not at all I'd like to do the explanation of why he got the earth for throwing the ball that's what you're supposed to do and throwing it right over the bed huh [Music] I think our first inclination was correct it should have been a hit because it was a tough play right over the the bag if that was home played to be a strike I'll tell you what Kenny I know they don't get big crowds here I did the noise drives me the way it's happiness every single thing there's they're trying to create an atmosphere it's hard to create an action where there has to be an out do you know I don't hear that many cowbells anymore that those used to drive me crazy there's a strike three and one on Aguilar I hate to write this down but I'm going to put down P three but I'm gonna do it very lightly that's another thing Meadows does well is stolen 12 out of 18 this year three and two now any baserunner to puts on an oven mitt it's on there for a reason [Music] Ronna goes down to miss blow to second got good tab by Torres good throw by Romine strike him out throw him out double play and we'll see if the Rays are going to challenge we'll take a look first they got him on the thigh before the right foot got in there what cash has not decided yet Yankees are hovering around in front of their dugout and they will not challenge so it's official strike him out throw him out DoublePlay he got him right on the thigh before the foot touch the bag no runs no hits one error and nobody left off base we'll go to the fourth inning Yankees lead this one more nothing [Music] game everyone plus Kenpo seeds of preview this Sunday immediately following the final game of the right four season right here on yes the network that knows the Bombers best so although we can't do the games we can certainly do the pre and postgame show we'll be with you every step of the way so Sabathia warming up in the Yankee bullpen new pitcher for the Rays is Andrew Kittredge and they say that judge went around on that check swing those are kittredges numbers not too bad out a scoreboard one not being 8 he's on the Maven home run that was the only base runner that Chirinos allowed these 10 Yankees in his three innings grounded shortly up the middle and knocked down by window for the first time when we say it should be a hit button will reserve judgment it is a hit now watch this last top it comes up a little higher then window thought hits him in the heel in the glove once he bobbled didn't have any chance to get judge tried to get rid of it quickly judge well across the bag now with a five-game hitting streak so here's Glaber Torres want to know we talked about having a goals at the end of the year 38 home runs 40s a nice round number and he's also scored 96 runs 100 is something to shoot for with 22 years old and putting these tapping numbers up there CC warming up in the Yankee bullpen now if the battery is said that even when he's starting a game of taking just 20 pitches to get ready so that's pretty good for a reliever and he was then informed that it took Mariano eight pitches and they said then I'll have to beat that q1 jaelyn beats both teams loaded bullpens there's no room to sit you got to get out there early is that what you're saying get a good seat now remember one year spring training Michael that Marianna was going to make his first appearance to the spring and it was a game we did on yes and he was asked before the game what would you like to do today I'd like to throw 12 pitches and be out of it in your memory struck out the third guy on his 12 pitch and walked off the man head that's him that's him strikes just look at that last pitch in it's a slider it was down that was a good thing about it it wasn't really on the outside corner that was up that would have been tagged Kittridge got it down you're Stanton and a strike another strike going to [Applause] captain bay with 3-inch Yankees with to the scoring in the game the Maven home run one-nothing Yanks out of the fourth 1 & 2 one two shattered bat slow roller to third and one play to make it at first that's Judge advanced into second now quick word from spectrum spectrum internet no data caps no contracts just faster speeds with better performance there goes another bat good won't see the playoff bat boys picking up some Flinders around home plate so here is geo or shell oh he lined out sharply to Meadows in right field in the second these offers last 16 I guess it gets authenticated Darnell finds another piece of lawn dirt those are really swallow up that decay this could be hard to put back together hop D dumped easy [Music] [Applause] guide the other way and out of play her shell is like LeMahieu maybe not quite to extent has been very good with runners in scoring position this year he's also been good with hitting with two strikes and we've always said driving in runs with two outs and it's big gives a team a big lift checks back judge you start worrying about baserunners that much in this situation you don't worry as much about the hitter you make mistakes [Applause] till them and still has it nothing to it he'sjust will carry sanchez was it oh yeah well the reason why he's this close is because he has to watch judge at second make sure they don't try to pick him off with nobody on I guarantee you wouldn't be that close to the hill his main job is the focus on judge at second you can see the infielders are back so judge can get pretty good leader one of the big guys was up and no one was on base he be standing next to Cece I don't blame her I never understood why the base coaches can't wear a glove well it's hard enough to get him to wear helmets remember some yeah some different one as the rule was passed I don't know how many years ago is kind of wild now maybe be more difficult to give signs with the glove but you could work around it one two two and two in LA this was scary candy whoa [Applause] no harm no foul - - bout that shutting down on strikes no runs a hit no errors and one man left we go to the bottom of the board hitting see feet coming in relief so CC Sabathia makes his first regular-season relief appearance after making 560 career start second pitcher in big-league history to make each of his first at least 500 career appearances as the start of the other ones Tom Glavine who made 682 starts before making his first relief appearance so Sabathia peels upstairs to d'Arnaud if he's going to be on the postseason roster will be pitching out of the bullpen out a scoreboard one nothing Yankees I believe Kenny he is on the postseason roster though he has a great ability to get out left east I don't know if they'll use him as a specialty lefty or the piggyback starter after an opener not quite sure they have not revealed their hand well I think I think the Yankees with their pitching staff in general might have some surprises for the other teams in this postseason now they want to work him out of the bullpen one more time before the end of this week and the next time will be without warning so he knew he was going to start a clean inning this time there's gonna be a call to the bullpen the next time all right get up and he's gonna have to get ready in a hurry and maybe come in with runners on base Meredith has more on this Meredith Aaron Boone city was really interested to see how Cece handles the mechanics of everything and more than that to see how he bounces back how the knee responds you spoke a little bit about the potential role that he could play Aaron Boone said that he sees them as a guy that can give some length also possibly thinking about bringing them in in situations to face a tough lefty as you mentioned Michael he feels as though as long as he responds okay as far as the knees he can play a valuable role to this team in the postseason [Music] well immediate value right there as he strikes out Travis d'Arnaud the first battery faces you see roll mine wants to target up wants to pitch up in the zone and that's where he got it this is also CeCe's 54th career appearance against Tampa Bay the most he has against any opponent in his career and has a striking Choi he's the all-time leader against Tampa Bay and starts with 53 in his pitch 344 in strikeouts 317 and that's what he's done this season against arrays one-on-one on joy right past the bathia to Gregorius - way looks like he knew where Dede was he let that ball go right by without trying to stop it yes look at I got a man there there's that number too you gotta have fun playing this game there's Matt Duffy pitch inside [Applause] Duffy singled to left that was in the second one nothing Yankees on the maiden homerun one or more Brendan McKay will be up next with the Tampa Bay Rays thank you [Music] [Applause] miss inside with the cutter trying to pick that corner off did Miss Platt much you heard the crowd reaction to the pitch there's a target up and in strike three breaking ball pros Duffy Sabathia walks a one two three fourth inning with two strikeouts his relief thing working out same as last September CC Sabathia did a good job in the inning of relief he has a word with Larry Rothschild go ahead we could pitch another 10 years and a new pitcher is Brendan McKay making his first career relief appearance in the majors he's only made 11 starts not like CC with 560 UK is the number-one draft pick a couple years ago Stephen Tarpley left-hander warming up in the Yankee bullpen UK is a two-way player the other day he hit his first major league home run early on the Rays were trying to formulate a plan as to when he would pitch and when McKay would D H much out of the PlayBook of show a of panic Corso Thani couldn't pitch this year is covering from Tommy John surgery now he's out remains this year with knee surgery - and - on the Gregorius [Applause] and the two-two grounded sharply and threw her face it got it through the ship a single poor Gregorius take a look at the files past plays to the game Kenny involved CeCe's relief appearance well it was kind of a fast ending a one two three top of the fourth here he is coming in out of the bullpen d'Arnaud swings in a hack fastball he's gone g-man Choi look look at CC Dedes there to make the play and then the final hitter was Matt Duffy called strike three good attic for CC quick and effective so run around first base and that'll bring up maven I want to ask you this when I heard Cece talk about it on Sunday Kenny he said he's ready he knew that this was his last year no second-guessing no regrets he said it just became too difficult to get ready to play and he said he will not miss the competition don't miss the guys is that how you felt yeah well considering the fact that I knew I couldn't play anymore right so I didn't miss the competition didn't I couldn't play the way it used to let's put it that way and but I'm still friends with the guys right yeah I took some of my best golfing buddies are my former teammates so you have you once you've won a World Championship with a group of guys that's a you know it's a bond that keeps you together forever of course you're a 2009 Yankee Cece won a World Championship 1 1 2 & 1 and Kyle Schneider will come out and talk with McKay and Kenny I'm told that they took away the error on the Mayo and they gave meadow as a base it you know they were listening to you Michael now I think they listened to the raise bench team that wanted to hit for four meadows you need the white out or I just lost it out there at the end of the year this isn't going with the Smithsonian [Music] so take away the year [Music] so 2 and 1 on maven picked up his 10th home run in the third inning giving him 10 on the year giving the 814 and double figures and breaking the tie with the Toronto Blue Jays no team in baseball history has ever had 14 players with 10 or more home runs and a Boston Romine gets hot hits 3 then the hot 15 and a blade hits 8 then they'll have 16 you know you know what Texas is a good hitting ball all you do is ask Oh deal he loved it there he got all misty talking about all the ballparks he'd love to hit in that will not exist anymore he must have been downright crying about the globe Life Park going away he's very upset sort of the way I felt about the Kingdome [Applause] swing-and-a-miss [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] but mr. fastball is up in the zone of course with the launch angles is the hitters swinging up trying to hit the ball in the air it's like the cover those high fastballs you gotta get on top of them Romine thousand way where my face mccade twice as two hits be interesting to see how McKay's career develops you know is he going to be a better pitcher is he going to be a better hitter I think we've seen that Otani is affected either way I mean he isn't legit as a pitcher he's got capabilities it in 2030 home runs I don't know if it's realistic to expect so I want to be a full-time starter and then a full-time position fireman but it's good to have a pitcher that can hit and play the position when you need them because that's like that extra guy off the bench that you know how because the bullpens are so long but to do both that a high level tough that's a base hit three four three four romana against Mackay you know where it really could help when the American League teams play the national team's at in their ballparks and there's no D H and you have this picture on your staff who's cabled coming off the bench and deliver a big hit like a regular hitter would the Rays did well against the National League this year they were 14 and 6 against National League teams here's another player that you know might be on the bubble as far as the postseason is concerned but you know Tyler Wade's bringing something to the table play several positions he could really run and he's hit well lately it's been a September push for Wade and what a push it's been 10 for 28 that's 357 and 13 games for extra-base hits 5 rib Eason aggressive smart baserunning he hasn't been caught stealing I think he was sent for 7 [Applause] I think he has the [Applause] I think he's the fastest player on the team [Applause] [Music] three weeks ago he hit a triple in Detroit got into triples alley use a third base of the blink of an ad role in two runs strike three wave down lucky killer [Applause] well you know how good the Mayo is with runners in scoring position he's got one he's that one RBI away from what he wants and that's a hundred rubies on the season [Applause] 393 runners in scoring position michaei playing this big gap is in left-center field they are playing him to hit the ball the other way he does that very well [Applause] and with two apps of course didi will be off with the crack of the bat so he'd get an extra jump I have to worrying about anything the year just go [Applause] two and one and that is it now he's in the driver's seat as far as the count is concerned it will may you as his manager Aaron Boone is said lives on the barrel of the bat able to hit the ball hard repeatedly [Applause] high flyball right side long run for everybody and the catch is made by Meadows to end the in a good play by Austin Meadows no runs two hits no errors and two men left on base a long run for the right fielder and he makes the catch to end the inning to win 1110 and fall Goldsmith's been a good trade for the Cardinals get a two-run home run in his first game back in Arizona and the Cardinals are in the playoffs they've had a nice little run at it the last part of the season here the st. Louis Cardinals but they swept the Cubs the only at four-game series all I want run and for the first time since the 1920s they want to fork deep series in Chicago Steven Tarpley and and Daniel Robertson pinch-hitting for Wendell and a strike [Applause] now watching properly last few hours he's got good stuff and sometimes the control can be an issue but he's got a good breaking ball throws pretty hard [Music] Quarry gearing up grounded to third nice hop there for her cell a stay with it the throw is high but the man came back down on the bag and get me out a nice play on both ends here ball took a funny hop in the high throw but may uses all of his six foot five inch frame he gets up and back down onto the bag for the out Robertsons retired you can see her she'll have to contort his body to make the play and LeMahieu on the other end here's Lily Adamas Owen one see the 20 home runs it's the most ever for a raise shortstop and the other night here he hit a 462 foot high fly ball down the left-field line in the seats out of play that nice play [Music] I like when people go out with nametags this way you know who they are is they're doing we mercy is he's got a baseball on the rest of them dunk hello I'm athletic [Music] I really think everybody in society should wear nametags you know you could say hello to people by their first name and abbess goes around to away yeah but then you get a lot of phony names out there it's almost check by Adamas is that your real name here's kiermaier against Tarpley Anna strike honestly dotted on the outside corner [Applause] [Music] now plan I was thinking I don't think it was last year maybe the year before the Yankees had a bullpen game here where it seemed like they everybody had won it and they've won the game this might be one of those nights it could put the exception of Montgomery who started and went to I've got enough pictures out there to pull it off oh my goodness thought back here out of play [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] John sterling is to say open up another can of really go 50 feet [Applause] same thing on the other side with the Rays now looked like the Rays had a second row of relievers are they sitting and what's the area where the fans are like they were don't have to pay for these three and two [Applause] yeah they're sitting uh what a fancy fouled straight back here and under a loop [Music] so there's the Rays bullpen they've used Kittredge and now Mackay so there's so many more to go give a deep toe and feel jean-pierre Margo's yard [Music] [Applause] now that breaks a one 4:28 [Applause] a 3-2 pitch right there [Applause] that'll bring up Tommy Pham [Applause] let's see here my annoyed and Susie touched it off it's number 14 on the season not that blood off the throat we got pastores in the center field a base hit this is close oh my goodness aim to see that you think it hit the floor Kenny oh good just 19:07 of miles per hour off the back young and athletic the only reason he's able to get out of the way right at his head I don't think good and it takes to throw the glove up it came off [Applause] [Music] while Pham can run 23 stolen bases in 26 attempts that's 80 8.5% success and he's done it 17 in a row too [Music] if you're around little over 70% you're doing a pretty good job stealing bases [Applause] in his career with the raise he's 28 432 that's 80 7.5% [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] one of the goals they got picked off the throw to second in town so that breaks a 17-ton stolen-base Street as he gets thrown out on the pickoff by tartly but in this scored a caught stealing because he never got into a rundown he just took off for second the tag was made by BD it's one three six to end the inning the Rays are still looking whether or not they're going to challenge and they are not going to challenge so fam is out one three six but the game is tied on the kiermaier home run one one into the six I'll go for the mana fear of doing more player of the week Aaron judge leaves up the Dixie swings and misses your choices are number one Louise Severino number two's Giancarlo Stanton number three the man that the played our a judge or number four time to leave one one game judge is 1 for 2 McKay deals missed outside 1 on 1 Daniel Robertson pinch-hit for Wendell and he stays in at second base chillin one you know these tight ball games it's not a bad thing to have your power hitters leading off in any pictures don't want to walk them usually come in with the many good pitches to hit Dorian lawn now he's gonna have to come in yeah decay was the fourth overall pick in the first round in 2017 by the race out of Louisville here's that last swing by Georgia you don't want to throw it there again wait a mess [Applause] the calendar turns in the action ramps up as baseball's brightest young stars take center stage the major league baseball postseason begins October 1st go to mlb.com slash postseason for the full schedule the Yankees postseason will begin on October 4th all signs pointing to that game being at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and we will have pre and postgame coverage right here on the es network as we will for every single postseason game the Yankees play then we have a big postseason special right after postgame coverage on Sunday Yankees Rangers hi flyball right field off the bat of Torres Meadows makes the play for the second out ball carried a little bit further than I thought it shows you the tour has just missed it ball got to the warning track [Music] Baseball America rates McKay is the second best prospect in the race system Sesa and lions warming up the number one prospect and the normal one overall prospect in all of baseball they have an eighteen-year-old shortstop the Rays do an Eightball call Wanda Franco who was really special switch hitter I'm sure that makes Willie Adamas feel very confident 18 years old he had a stretch this year where he went a hundred and five pitches without a swing and a Miss now Kenley has gotten up alongside Lyons is Stanton Fazio to pitch back [Music] and he was honored last night here at the Trop with the minor league Player of the Year for the Rays they asked him where he would like to be next year he said Tropicana Field [Applause] yeah he's got it all he's got he's got star quality when you talk to people and you read things about him he just carries himself and has since he was 16 years old as if he was gonna be a future superstar Walt gets away in the bullpen retrieved became home and third [Applause] now he's from Darlington Pennsylvania is Brendan McKay and his parents and his aunt and uncle traveled from Pennsylvania to watch him pitch against the Yankees tonight but they got here early so they saw his first big league home run on Sunday against the Red Sox and now they're watching him pitch against the Yanks and McKay said they only went to that game because his uncle wanted to see the Red Sox part they didn't know where he's gonna play No three two on Stan the Rays Hanuman is the number one player on the fort they never thought he would fall to the fourth overall pick he did and here he is in the big leagues [Applause] three two now back over our head we don't see many go over our hand here of course there's nobody sitting up there they've closed the upper deck there's a ball up there somewhere if you want it three two good battle by Stanton that's a good at-bat for Santa as he works along that's one thing we've noticed Kenny he really he's identifying pitches he's taking good pitches and he looks like he has an eye early swinging at strikes notice he's wearing a brace on that right leg where he had the knee injury earlier this year [Music] there's Kevin cash there's been action in the bullpen so this could do it for Mackay yes he's gonna signal to the bullpen with or she'll adieu up so he's gonna bring in the righty that'll do it for Mackay runner on first two outs [Applause] great series once again a great year and Diego Castillo will come on to face Gio Ariella can see the 79 strikeouts at 66 innings he is a hard thrower but also 25 walks now I'm told Kenny that the the Rays plan to reopen the upper deck at the Trop for any postseason games current capacity is 25,000 and 25 with the upper deck closed I've got some work to do this week to open up that upper deck but yeah [Applause] he's like I said he doesn't always know where it's going Michela trying to shake it off target didn't really matter it didn't get him on the hand I think cells not good he's gonna stay in there it's like he's okay I mean you can grip the trainer's hand Stevie down to use hand like that she's got hoped his uh no small fractures Stevi Donny has been one busy man this season you see it's still bothering him you see is that a mark on the back of ten yeah it's I think it's bruising as we speak swelling to we're goriest fouls it back well that moves Stanton into scoring position [Applause] snake it straight anything Yankees hand of a runner at second base with two outs one one game were in the sixth inning [Applause] good swing 1 and 2 and pitch hung a little bit for Dede he was just underneath it [Music] [Applause] line to right field Meadows is there to make the plank we're going is hitting on the screws but right at Meadows no runs a hit no errors and two men left we will go to the bottom of the sixth inning all knotted at one these pregame is right here on yes every Yankee is saying came out after the top of the evening was over to check on or shell a stand and Stevie Donna you came out again to manipulate the hand obviously you could see the black and blue but he's he's letting him stay in there has a little smile on his face well put a bat back in your hand see if you can swing it [Music] not scary new pitcher for the Yankees is Tyler Lyons three straight lefties out of the pen for the Yankees Sabathia Tarpley now lions one one game raised with six hits Yankees with four both runs scoring via the home run a home run by maven a home run by kiermaier neither one of them had any doubt to him they were crushed three and out imagine if all season long managers have this many pictures that work with Meadows walks to start the six [Music] well there was a story today by Ken Rosenthal in the athletic about that's why the the Brewers have been so good the last two september's so this council really uses that bullpen and the extra men in it so that's going to do it for Lyons boon goes to the bullpen calls on a right-hander it's a 1-1 game her game may not be disseminated without the express written consent of the New York Yankees [Music] both outfielders checking the scattering port in the Hat as Brandon Lau is going to pinch it for hey-zeus Oggy law and Louis Sesa comes off to the Aggies now I was having a great season at 16 home runs before the all-star break and 49 runs batted in but then he found the ball off his shin and that kept them on the IL for a while and everyone he was rehabbing he injured it quad and he just recently returned and when he injured the quad they didn't think he'd be back this season they didn't think it was enough time and what he's done is he's worked out of their mana league complex where young kids are throwing 98 miles an hour you have no idea where the ball is going and Kevin cash said it took a lot of guts for him to go there and just get his at-bats against these kids you don't know you're gonna get hit and he helped win a game yesterday against the Red Sox and all brand up off that side and right field down the right-field line 441 feet of the Moffet sign out there in the kind of right-field line his home run tied the game - and - Wow well he's been voted the Rookie of the Year for the race and there's a sign that he plunked [Music] here at the the trap they call it back walling you swing-and-a-miss nice pitch by Sesa as loud down on strikes look like you had swings and misses on three off-speed pitches bottom fell out of that one he's been great in his last seven appearances 14 and 2/3 innings 13 hits just one run has not walked her batter and struck out 8 now faced Travis d'Arnaud d'Arnaud has done something this year that no other raise catcher has done even been here all year he's set to raise record for home runs by a catcher in a season you know whose record he broke I see it right there ah there you go Wilson Ramos and flash I would not have known that flash monster party like it was 1999 that year you know you blamed for giving giving up the trivia question and the answer Luke Miller he had that built and you said it boom we popped it up before you can make you know make me guess are you trying to say Luke click on the trigger a little bit [Applause] well Luke and I had actually talked about this what would Mike made but so I can't fault those guys are always right they are always right yeah that's what they tell me the O 2 1 & 2 andar no part of our great crew [Music] best assesses staring in that Gabe Morales and you can see the reaction of Aaron Boone watch reminds target hmm border glam swing-and-a-miss senses got that slider working once again while this one hung a little bit all right no trying to do too much with it missed it tried to increase his record here's tea man Choi [Music] [Applause] and a strike to choy [Music] [Applause] one and one [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] that's pitch has been the slider so far let's see if it goes to it here yeah can throw strike so three and one on choice when you're sitting on the bench as a hitter and you're watching the pose a pitcher you see what's really working for him and if you get a chance to hit it might give you an idea of what's coming [Applause] so three and two now two odds that will release Meadows at first [Applause] I think LeMay you should play behind the runner with the left-handed hitter at the plate 3 2 & 2 ass maybe wants to hold them close so he doesn't get a good jump and choy works a walk as Meadows moves to second and that brings up Matt Duffy Duffy won 4-2 Sesa is the 86th pitcher Jordan Montgomery started and through two scoreless innings gave up three hits [Music] [Applause] and a strike [Applause] outfielders have kind of moved up with a runner in scoring position particularly judge in right field base hit in the direction want to be able to have a play at the plate [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] two and one on Duffy [Applause] durian water [Applause] and the bases are loaded raise the load of the bases without a hit Pacific all walks McDaniel Robertson do up but they're going to send up a pinch-hitter this was me low [Music] [Applause] spelled the same way as Lao but pronounced Lo and Larry Raja will go out and talk with Sesa to give a scatter port ornate low [Music] on the 21st of September lo got a walk-off against the Red Sox that planted the old devilry uniform that's right around the area that evan longoria hit the home run that knocked the Red Sox out of the playoffs essentially got Terry Francona fire and sent the race to the plow that was against the Yankees in game 162 the Rays have had seven walk-off wins since the all-star break and lo provided one [Applause] and a strike [Applause] [Music] [Music] Wells been back and forth to the minor leagues a couple of times this year [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] bases-loaded two outs two and one the bases are loaded because of three walks and now he's fallen beyond the pinch-hitter low [Applause] [Music] bottom of the sixth inning won one game three in one well you can't get too cute with this Kenny you gotta throw a fastball you know you got to hope for the best it's almost as if you aim for the middle of plate hope he hit submit somebody every pitch every game so important for the raised as they battle to try to make the wild card grounded to second and sessom works out of trouble Tampa Bay is over the last 19 with runners in scoring position against the Yankees and one for their last 26 during the official Hospital of the New York Yankees amazing things are happening here here's the 3 1 pitch and lo does put it in play but writer Glaber Torres and he Yankees get out of a major Jam in the bottom of the sixth man sessile liked it so Maybin will lead off against a Diego Cassio mic brazo takes over at second base Cadillac scoreboard one one grounded to third Duffy with the big hug he gets maven for the first out now Michael I think this game is rapidly becoming a one swing of the bat game it's just a matter which team can mix there's Mike Russell at second raised with six hits he's with four raise the bluff six runners on base the Yankees five and a strike to Roman Romans 1 for 2 Colin poche warming in the bullpen flyball right-field Meadows is there two way [Music] Tommy keenly heating up for the eggs I fly ball deep right center Meadows over kiermaier as well Meadows makes the play for the final out of a 1-2-3 inning at the end of six and a half innings of play time for the seventh-inning stretch at the Trop it's a 1-1 game Montgomery started when Reno started he went three Cameron Maybin a solo home run his 10th of the year giving the 14 batters with 10 or more home runs and makes a league record Kevin kiermaier collected a solo home run and that tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning that's where we stand so the mayor takes over at third base moves from first Luke Boyd takes over at first there's a shell of being hit by a pitch up Diego Castillo now he remained to the game for a while but I think the Yankees maybe want to get x-rays to make sure put some ice on it calm it down you know he's smile all smiles pitch outside - Adonis want to know there's breve the 70th outing for kingly this year Catholic school board 1-1 [Music] just miss the outside corner three and one [Applause] and a pitch three and two Thomas might have helped them out of it that was borderline strike at dents it's not the type of swing you want to take three and one it's like he's lunging a bit yeah it's three and one you're ready to unload on something pitch like that you just take it swing-and-a-miss one away we go back to bob lorenz another update in the studio unbelievable a nail-biter in the wild-card in the American League how do you think the doctor feels that did the surgery on his hand feels good God home runs from both sides of the plate those are the wildcard standings right now the Rays in the evening suit back in the loss column behind the A's who have the first wild card one-on-one kiermaier tied the game with a long home run a solo shot obviously with two outs in the fifth inning so a couple of home runs accounting for the runs in this game I'll take a look at the exit velocity on that home run brought you by specs of mobile best network best devices best value 106 point six travel 413 feet [Applause] 1 & 2 [Applause] at the end of the last habit and kiermaier gave way and he had the scatter report in his right hand he was still reading it as the ball was up in the air both beat asking that is good reading comprehension high flyball deep center going back maybe and he has room out there and he'll put it away for the second out top of the lineup and Tommy Pham he's 1 for 3 [Music] and a strike [Music] you know usually you say it's a battle of the bullpens from about the sixth inning on well in this game second second anyone has been a battle of the bullpens still on to can't leave course with that power fastball mid to upper-90s but he also has that tremendous change it's a lot of swings and misses hankies using openers and using the bullpen to give the starters a little more rest today tanaka through a sim game and Paxton through some as well Gary Sanchez caught both of them that is they are going to start in taxes though yes just tuned up starts and then they have four days off after the final game before they even play game so you could start somebody that final game Tanaka and he's have full rests and start the first game if they want yeah might throw bullpen in between he's going with the opener scenario tomorrow with half being the bulk guy flyball right field coming on is judge he's bear to make the play kingly works a 1-2-3 inning one one game as we go to the eighth here at the Trop kebab boy the the Cubs have really hit the skids at the wrong time the National League wildcard you've got the Nationals a half game up over the Brewers and the Cubs right behind them and the new pitcher is Emilio Pagano you can see some pretty good numbers but one thing you don't see therefore God has given up some homeruns late in ball games it did it to the last time the Yankees were here the made of three for four career against begun and Pugin does give up the home run he's a fly ball pitcher Hyundai scoreboard 1-1 the Gon's allowed 25 home runs over the last two seasons and that's tied for the most among major league relievers [Music] three and OH on July 5th McGann gave up a pinch-hit home run to Aaron Hicks there's a strike to LeMay you rent one if I remember correctly at the time had tied the ballgame I saw Hicks before the game today he's he's on a throwing program other the minute almost took off the gods lung and a base hit for LeMay you get two pitchers ducking tonight first Tarpley and now play on it's amazing how quickly pitchers can get out of the widow's you know it's over 100 miles per hour off the bat and somehow you got to get out of the way unless you flag it down [Applause] so here's judge [Applause] well if I was a pitcher I'd be definitely a friendly vegan ball along the way yeah there's a story years ago Louie Tiant was pitching against Frank Howard in the scouting report was keep the ball down in a way and Louise said I'm not gonna do that because I don't want him to kill me don't blame them [Music] because that's what a a batter wants to do is take it right up the middle especially on a pitch out over the plate either that or to the opposite field [Applause] oh and two on judge [Applause] Aran's one for three tonight we're in the eighth inning 1-1 game [Applause] all the way [Applause] [Applause] with the off day yesterday and an off day on Thursday just about everybody the bullpens ready to go for the Yankees when they've been well rested this month the high-leverage relievers Jack curry smokes but not on the pregame show today [Applause] vo 2 1 & 2 [Applause] in September Chapman has appeared in only three of twenty games this moment [Applause] and jugs down on strikes [Applause] once again a fastball months little bit above belt I just can't get on top of it and misses [Applause] there's Glaber Torres [Applause] the block this according to a to Jack curry Kenny the big four relievers the Yankees have their recent and very low pitch totals Chapman 21 pitches in the last 11 days Britain 14 in the last 10 on Avena 25 in the last 10 and Cain Lee before tonight 35 pitches in the last 10 games Yankees a 24 know on those four relievers all pitch in the game [Applause] now they're blocked by d'Arnaud he's getting a workout behind home plate with a gun out there if slider in the dirt [Applause] some abuses chest protector keep the ball in front of it Zach Britton ready [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] the gone the raised fifth pitcher tonight two and one [Applause] [Applause] skyhigh pop up I think it hit the roof it did and it falls they'll get the force at second so the two rings closest to the center if it hits that it's in play which is what just happened you have to play it off the Rings and the two rings farthest from the center those are home runs if you hit them it seems like we can't go a series here without somebody hit and sign something up they're not exactly how Abner Doubleday drew it up I think I remember flash saying when the devil raised back in the day first came here the they were told that nothing can hit the roof that's like I said it seems to happen at least once a series when we're here and a pitch the Stanton is a strike [Applause] I think that's what they said about the Astrodome and they ain't he's opened it off in the next edition game and Mickey Mantle hit the roof and they said uh-oh he also hit the first home brother didn't that exhibition game wave at that pitch bowing to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] stanton down on strikes no runs a hit no errors and one man left on base we're gonna go to the bottom of the inning it's a 1-1 game on yes first place teams the e FC both in serious contention whether respective league titles so keep it on yes to catch all the action of both teams on their run-up to the playoffs and then once basketball season starts the nets join the fray Zach Britton takes over for the Yankees here in the bottom of the eighth Hyundai scoreboard 1-1 [Applause] there's Meadows and the first pitch is a strike [Applause] you know one thing I've seen from Britain lately he's kind of taking a page out of all this Chapman's book is he's using his slider a little bit more you know not relying her solely on that heavy sinker as he does you know it's not a pitch when you get a head on the couch it's not a pitch you really have to throw for a strike you can throw it out of the strike zone and see if you get a left handed hitter to chase it sees a head on the cation with two here and that way a hitter will get himself out fastball inside [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] - and - Meadows Lao and d'Arnaud [Music] rip down the right-field line and foul that was a slider but it kind of hung a bit metals geared up for fastball too quick Mets that was a dangerous pitch [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well Shay is ready grounded to Torres over two point one away pounded at sinker the ground [Music] still think anytime I see Brett and I was thinking that Yuri had in Baltimore that was just phenomenal but it's 0.54 yeah it's and here's that slider I'm sure that Britain has also been a good sounding board for Dellin Betances who injured his Achilles Britain completely tore it and certainly made it all the way back so that's got a hearty Betances a bit and it looks like they're going to treat it conservatively without operating on it so he should be able to come back sooner than bricky did well said this year as opposed to last year he didn't really have his legs completely underneath him last year he said this year he feels a lot better they're coming into spring training last 20 appearances you see he's done the job he walks perhaps too many a bit more than he wants to but he keeps people off the board Oh to swing and a miss here's that slider I was talking about you get a head on the cab and you get those lefties this wave at that pitch it dives out of the strike zone targets down the way it looks like a strike it's really not and Brandon Lau hit it back to the dugout [Music] and that brings up Dorn know he had a double ax left in the first and struck out the fourth and struck out in the sixth line the right field judge right there and Britney works a 1-2-3 eighth inning will go to the name tie that one yes Colin poche in his 50th game and the first batter he will face Luke point and the spot vacated by Geo Earth Shella another reason to stay tuned for the postgame to see what the latest is on the Yankee third baseman poche deals check swing foul bat so this boy's first at-bat O'Shea predominately a fastball pitcher [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 1 & 2 how to be know up in the Yankee pen popped up joy makes the play one away Dada Vito's throwing it's so his Chaput if the Yankees score of course is C Chapman in the bottom half of the inning if not we'll be out of e know there's a look at the foul ball hauled in by Choi [Music] drilled deep to centerfield coming back kiermaier on the track at the wall will make the play for the second out Gregorius gave it a ride but to the deepest part of the park [Applause] poche thinking i'm lucky to get that one back just about anyplace else in the ballpark it would have been out kiermaier turns once twice at the wall makes the catch just enough real estate here at Tropicana Field now you can smile about it now fouled away and how to play so maybe there's the Yankee offense tonight with the leadoff home run in the third inning is 10th of the year yeah he's at 299 home runs as a team while we take a look at 299 targets away pitch floats back to the middle of the plate that's all maybe needed that gave the Yankees a one nothing lead at the time good swing there [Applause] Chapman and Auto V no Auto V no of its tied Chapman if they're ahead [Applause] and the one-two [Applause] two and two O'Shea continues to pump those fast balls in there [Applause] here it comes again swing-and-a-miss mache will say one q3 ninth inning the Rays have a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth inning they'll try against out of Ino odd amount of vino next up for the Yankees in the 72nd game the Rays know the Indians are winning they essentially tied with the Indians in the loss column for the second wild-card they need this win the Yankees want to keep hope alive when it comes to home-field advantage against the Astros and even the Dodgers so again a big game for both but much bigger Kenny for the Rays gives the Rays playoff lives depend on the plus the fact that the you know Cleveland is rolling tonight that looks like they're going to be in the win column easily what they are beat nothing against the White Sox [Applause] so oughta be know is on that's the Yankees use their ninth pitcher here in the ninth inning and a strike to g-man Choi Montgomery started went to Heller want one Sabathia one Tarpley one Lyons one batter Sesa one inning Cain Lee one Britain won and now Otto vino [Applause] grounded to first grabbed there by Voigt he'll flip two out of he no one away nice play guarding the line lute voice moving to his left gobbles it up and makes the play just a couple of steps to his left a big first baseman mitt Gavin gobbles it up and there's a oughta be know where he should be covering first base now there looks to be something wrong with somebody moon was coming out and called work trainer to accompany him and then he was waived off I'm not quite sure what he thought he saw was it oughta be no covering the bag that he hit the bag in an awkward way yeah it didn't look like anything out of the ordinary on the replay but somebody's up in the Yankee pen quickly look like Chad green and there's a strike to Duffy here's another look at it there's the ground ball like nothing out of the ordinary [Applause] when it's sliders really breaking tonight [Applause] yeah I'm alright [Applause] Duffey 1 for 2 with a walk today raised with 6 hits the Yankees with 5 each team with a run bottom of the 9th inning first of two games in this short series [Applause] Oliver Drake is up [Music] [Applause] round it right to Voight flips nada vino another three one for the second out [Music] so here is Mike Grasso boon talking it over with his coaches this will be Brazos first at-bat Wendell started at second Robertson pinch-hit for him and then Grasso came on to play second base [Applause] inside want to know [Applause] now one just flips the inside corner one and one the target slowed it away but this is gonna be a front door slider don't mind did a good job of receiving it might a bit a little limp look like you might have gone around the plate [Music] there's a strike [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] you know from the Rays standpoint this is playoff baseball even absolutely every pitch means so much whether they stay home or move move on after Sunday and down goes Grasso and a 1-2-3 inning for Otto vino and the Aggies bonus cantos free baseball we go to the 10th how did we get here to the 10th inning let's take a look the game recap this won't take long maybe jump someone gave the Yankees a one nothing lead then in the fifth inning ball games time Kevin kiermaier is 14th of the year and that's where we stand or shell up hit by a pitch the Yankees had some chances it puts the men on face but neither team has been able to score since that or Shella out of the game he was smiling like he's okay but he's not taking any chances Oliver Drake comes on is that a good year Romine swings and misses drink has been busy lately pitched two innings last night his last nine and 2/3 innings been scoreless he's given up one hit in that time one for 30 the hitters are against him got a funky delivery straight over the top oh and two by the way [Applause] [Applause] Drake 32 years old v big league season seven major league baseball team there's that delivery route watch this boom last year Drake played on five teams in one season like he tried to quick pitch Romine their 5 teams that's a major league record most teams play four in a season started with the Brewers df8 on May 2nd traded to Cleveland got df8 again picked up by the Angels df8 again moved on a Toronto df8 after only three days and then went to the twins finished the season with them and the offseason wasn't any friendlier to him Kenny he was waived by the twins to the Rays that meant to the Blue Jays and back to the Rays again so you could say he started from the bottom now he's here Brett Gardner will pinch-hit for Tyler Wade [Music] [Applause] at Gartner is five for seven as career against Drake [Applause] and Gardner is home and in each of his last three games at the truck one up static on a snail one off Morton [Applause] also has a little side competition going with Aaron judge right now gardeners one home run ahead does it count that he's played in a lot more games I don't think that's part of the competition okay [Applause] good numbers against Drake [Applause] one-on-one [Applause] flyball shallow left BAM coming on and makes the play gets there in time [Applause] and that's going to do it for Drake as Kevin Cass tell us up hold on we're going home that's it for trach so I'll go to the bullpen again one one game but one one game first game of a two game set well this is what the booth looks like here at the Trop paper is a little messy but you know it's getting late in the ball game but you know all these papers is up here paste it that Susan Wallman is doing not mine I never tape anything to any walls Chas ro takes over and he will deal the DJ LeMahieu now earlier we saw Colin post Shane again he throws a lot of fast balls Chaz Rowe is in love with his slider as far as pitch love Mia was a slider [Applause] soft ground ball to second base cross oh and that'll do it so two pitchers working one two three inning we go to the bottom of the 10th tied at one Cameron Maybin moves Center and Gordon who pinch it for Wade moves into center field where Maybin it started numbers aren't green another strikeout pitcher out of the bullpen lady wanted 66 innings [Applause] it'll be eight nine and one for the Rays against Chad green and there's a strike Tampa Bay is 10 X rating wins this season tie with the Astros for most in the American League they have a seven-game winning streak in extra innings grounded just foul the Yankees are seven and three in x-ray taint games this year [Music] [Applause] 17 pitchers in this game [Applause] this outside [Music] and adamas goes around he strikes out [Applause] on the plane Adamas commits and he's gone don't play dumb part Gabe Morales didn't even ask he just said yeah you went too far I could see it for myself [Applause] here's Kevin kiermaier one out bottom of the tenth inning oh and one [Applause] [Applause] one and to look over my scorecard here with the Rays they've had at least one batter strike out in every inning so the Yankees are bringing the heat out of the bullpen still 1 & 2 on kiermaier kiermaier 1 4 3 the homerun in the fifth the only scoring for the Rays a Maiden's home run and the second the only scoring for the X so a lot of zeros up on that board each team has left six runners on [Applause] swing and a miss gotto high heat - way to strikeouts for green here's another look Romine wants to pitch up in the zone he gets it there and kiermaier is headed back to the bench 96 miles an hour over power [Applause] so here is Tommy Pham has go back to the top of the order fastball away at 97 miles an hour waived in that pitch also 97 one-on-one week swing and a miss [Applause] that clips the outside corner at ninety five one and two as Green trying to strike out the side it at the corner swing and a Miss he does strike out the side three up three down three K's we go to the eleventh inning tied at one [Music] do you like the power while the eggs you like the power to end this game a lot of ones it's a 1-1 game in the 11th and Aaron judge will lead off jazz row in for a second inning of work [Applause] decent news on our Shella bruised left hand x-rays negative Yankees it we're obviously holding their breath on that one do on the judge Owen to grow with a couple of sharp sliders I just got a text from my good friend former Yankee pitcher Mike Torrez said let the Yankees know he's available for an inning if they need him tonight vo - did he go and yes he did judge down on strikes for the third time tonight [Music] steady diet of sliders here and it does from that angle it appears he went too far that's what the umpire saw that is Cory blazer at first base here's Glaber Torres he's over for tonight first game back after missing the couple with that hamstring scare he takes a breaking ball strike from Road [Music] every pitch that roll is thrown since coming in the game has been a slider I wonder for Darnell even gives him aside [Applause] swing-and-a-miss Torres down on strikes so the strikeouts piling up for both sides is we're in the 11th inning starts in the middle and then towards the corner short break for Chaz roe [Music] [Music] here is Jean Carlos Stanton one a no Stanton tonight is over 3 with a walk grounded the second grounded to third and struck out [Applause] - no so both starting centerfielders with solo home runs and that's that's been the scoring and a combined 26 strikeouts for these two teams two and one on the strikeout of torez once this Kenny as he's releasing the ball his head is facing toward first base getting that break on the slider [Applause] two one three and one out Stan Stan would love them to hang a slider here Luke points on deck [Applause] line drive up base hit to right field for stent Meadows is there to field that hold stamp to a single that is the antes first baserunner since the 8th inning and that was a base hit bottom a slider it does hang a bit Stanton rips it the other way head down follow-through this is coming in your direction [Applause] a lot of Yankee fans here crowd of 16,000 699 at Kyle Snyder will go out and talk with Chas ro there is nobody warming up so this is just maybe a scatter report on the Luke boy remind everybody this October Yankees take aim at their 28th World Series settlement yes we'll have comprehensive pre and post game coverage around every single Yankees playoff game Plus qetsiyah's postseason preview that's this Sunday immediately following the final game of the regular season right here on yes the network that knows the Bombers best pinch runner pinch runner for Stanton that'll be Clint Fraser [Music] so Snyder with a long talk with ro as ro will now face Voight I'll feel deep for Voight trying to cut off anything in the gap that could score Frasier Boyton is only a bat fouled out to the first baseman Choi in the night [Applause] [Applause] one and OH [Music] Chapman's up for the inks Boyd has faced row once in his career got a hit that one Clips the inside corner one in one [Applause] [Music] that's Pete Fairbanks warming up [Applause] Chapman looks like he's coming in even if they don't score now as we mentioned earlier in every single game that all four of the big four picks Yankees have not lost the game they're 24 and home [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] still 2 & 2 well plenty of pitchers left so we can go 25 today what we can go 25 today it'll be more than today if that happens to be tomorrow [Applause] all right so that's going to set Gardner or should I say Fraser going at first three two and two out so he has an advantage if it gets into the gap even if it's cut off he would have a chance to score mr. plank so deep they would cut it off near the warning track and there goes Frasier swing and miss as Boyd strikes out Roe strikes out three Yankees in the 11 will go to the bottom of the 11th tied at one [Music] maids in the game last inning the bottom of the taffy was outstanding three hitters three strikeouts made it look easy sometimes it's easy being green now Chapman was warming and when the Yankees didn't score he put his glove down and then walked into the Yankee dugout one thing I could figure there are not facilities out there for the the relief pitchers know so he has time to get back in here and wait until the Yankees get up again [Applause] and the pitch to Meadows is a strike and now he is just in the dugout between Severino and Encarnacion Meadows two for three with a walk green throwing free and easy [Music] [Applause] popped up and that's going to make the seats out of play [Music] we've seen a lot of high octane gas in this game including Chad green that last pitch was 97 miles an hour a boatload of strikeouts [Applause] Meadows Lao and d'Arnaud here in the home half of the 11 tied at one [Applause] [Applause] last time a ray got on base was the walk by Matt Duffy with two outs in the sixth inning that loaded the bases but then Robertson pinch-hit and ground it to second to end that threat against Louisa Meadows goes down on strikes one away once again an overpowering fastball since it hit her back to the bench sort of up and in tough to get on top of that [Applause] [Music] he's just pumping gas so all he's doing and they're not catching up three infielders on the right side for the lefty swinging while consistent 97 for grain [Applause] 1 & 2 right now he's just playing catch with Romine since he's coming to the game for strike access for all swing [Music] strike three five strikeouts in a row for Greene six strikeouts in a row for Yankee pitcher did swing at this one he should have though target slowed it away but the fastball is loaned in and Yankees get the call it was a strike [Music] here's Travis d'Arnaud one for for Rome I thought that was a strike Morales did not want to know 1 1 this is July 6 I had a feeling we're going to see this this is d'Arnaud a game-winning home run it was off Chad green [Music] [Music] [Applause] two and two second inning of work for green Yankees 10th pitcher [Applause] [Music] spoils that slider fouling it away still 2 & 2 home half of the 11th inning it's a 1-1 game [Music] [Applause] I fly ball right side point and foul territory makes the play and we're going to go to the 12th inning Green works a perfect two five strikeouts six up six down [Music] America what would you like the power to do we go to the 12th inning if the postseason started today it would be Tampa Bay in the a since the Wawa we sure that didn't the Indians win so technically they're ahead it's not it's not a final okay so it'll be a z' and Tampa Bay and they would that winner would play the Astros Yankees would face the twins internationally Brewers and the Nationals against the Dodgers the winner of the Brewers of the Nationals and then in st. Louis against the Braves that's if the season ended today at this moment Pete Fairbanks takes over 25 year-old right-hander from st. Louis 20th game between Texas and the Rays twenty five strikeouts in 19 innings first up for him is didi Gregorius another Tommy John surgery patient knocked out from July of 2017 until this April and it was his second Tommy John surgery after having it as a junior in high school and the guide the plate recovering from Tommy John surgery June read jiff passes book the arm I have not read a very good book and it explained that most Tommy John surgeries have not done on pro pitchers most of them are done on I believe that's what it said that on high school and college pitchers okay not a notes being done to protect their arms one of the scary part of that is someone that's being done prophylactically where they have the Tommy John surgery because you come back and you throw a little bit harder you hope that that's not that prevalent one two - and jus yeah we heard from Ron Kulpa over there third he had been busy tonight line right at Duffy one away is the only man home on the left side of the infield and didi founder [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] that's knocked down by Grasso and he will get me bitten for the second out looked like it was headed from Fairbanks brazo had it in his glove and it looked his oh babe and stop think he was gonna catch it then he had to try and regroup and beat it out couldn't do so I mean that ball should be caught in the air get it out of the glove I'm pinch-hitting for row mine will be Mike Ford there's the throw over the first in time so Boone looking for the long ball here sending up for it against Fairbanks the Yankees have four pinch-hit home runs this year Ford has two of them and that's the most of any player in the American League to pinch-hit home runs as a pinch-hitter for 410 with 3 rubies 98 miles an hour coming back from Tommy John surgery moving to the bullpen he retooled his delivery and as fastball velocity has jumped into the high 90s chewing one on fort at Durham the triple-a affiliate for the razors clocked at 100 miles an hour there's a high fly ball left side going to be a long run for everybody and it's going to fall in for basic it's going to be a double to Ford they're playing so deep in the outfield that kind of took them out of the equation and the shortstop Adamas kept going and going and going and just couldn't get there yeah with the shift on in the infield everybody's pulled counted towards the right side tough angle for the third baseman Duffy he's going straight back right over his head and he can't make the play so now we're going to get a pinch runner at second base for Ford yeah that portal had some hang time but everybody was shifted to the other side of the field and we're going to get a pinch runner down for four it'll be tyro Estrada and another trip to the mound by Kyle Snyder so Ford has been a weapon off the bench that's for sure 5 for 11 as a pinch-hitter remember after this game ends Bob and Jack and Meredith have the WB Mason postgame show all the highlights all the scores from around the game and the latest news from the clubhouse and hear from Aaron Boone as well that's the WB Mason postgame show so for to get a quick jump on a shower now what Snider has the longest meetings at the mound Paul lien guy who takes forever to get to the mound but the umpire goes out breaks it up and he still talks for another 20 seconds so here's Brett Gardner he entered the game as a pinch-hitter for Tyler Wade in the 10th that hit a flyball to the left outfield comes in just a bit trying to cut off Estrada at home playing on a single you know that Gardner has the power to hit it over their head as well [Applause] want to know this shot a very good speed pinch running for Ford in that second base and then again Chapman's up for the Yankees in their bullpen in case they score [Applause] there's a strike [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] trying to check a strata keep the clothes at second though on one 1 and 2 on Gardner we're in the 12th inning it's a 1-1 game first game of a 2 game set so vitally important for Tampa Bay dropped it over the outside corner and a lot on the line for the Yankees as well as they try to snare home feel throughout the postseason [Applause] swing-and-a-miss gardener down on strikes and that'll do it the top of the 12 no runs a hit one man left will go to the bottom of the 12 [Music] for the Yankees Cory Gearrin and he'll be pitching to in a new catcher for the East Kyle he got she oka as Romine was pinch-hit for by Mike board so the Yankees using all of their roster tonight [Music] as Gearin will face at g-man choi Matt Duffy [Music] and Nate low oh no that'll that'll be brah so with that in that spot [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so first up g-man Choi [Applause] Geron along the lines of a sinker slider type pitcher relies on movement on his fastball to take it off the fat of the band when they hit hitters swing at it [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] 87 hits they raise six hits press your heavy on the Rays they see at the bottom of the ninth inning in Chicago the Indians leave the White Sox 11 nothing so to stay even with them they've got to win this game top of the fourth inning in Anaheim the Angels have scored two still battling batting so the Athletics lead the Angels to nothing that one's drilled deep to right field going back judge Kearney looking ball game 2-1 Raisa Levin [Music] [Applause] [Music] while this team is trailed in 14 of its last 15 games and they are ten and five in those games and this was a much-needed win for the Tampa Bay Rays as I mentioned with the Indians leading 11 nothing second game in a row the g-man Choi has come up with a very very big home run for these rays yesterday he got him back into a game against the Red Sox and tonight he walks off the New York Yankees well the Yankees used 11 pitchers they emptied their bench trying to win this one well when they go to Cory Gearrin he serves up the home run to g-man joy his 18th of the year and here's how it ended slider down it in beats up to the spot good wood and God drive home safe with Joe I had a cup of coffee with the New York Yankees he's found his niche here in st. Pete and the Rays needing every single victory this is how they reacted celebration for the Rays as they try to nail down a wild-card and joy it's a second career walk-off home run and he gets greeted it on plate with powder and candy and gum and Gatorade and I'm sure it all felt good as he kicked the game-winning home run as a Rays win by a score of two to one we'll be back and on the post game after that 2-1 Tampa Bay [Music] you you
