as we crisscross the country looking for the fiercest Franks our next stop is Philadelphia Pennsylvania with this being cheesesteak Central the Philly franc is often overlooked but one Wiener wonderland is aiming to transform the City of Brotherly Love into the city of hot dog love can you say hot diggety cheesesteaks have been on top too long and now it's time for hot dogs to take their ways my ticket E is the bomb diggity native Philadelphian keith Garabedian is the dog loving genius in charge of hot diggity 'he's mind-boggling menu where you can find every regional hot dog specialty all under one roof one of his biggest sellers is the Seattle grunge inspired by a Frank found only in the northwest until now has the garlic cream cheese and fresh tomatoes and shoestring onions it's crunchy and it's creamy and then you get that like nice meaty kick to it as well it's delicious Keith's love of the humble hot dog comes through in the unique ways he dresses up his pups and the freshly baked buns all beef hot dogs and top-notch toppings take this from street food too so climb we're gonna make our Seattle grunge hot dog which was inspired by the Pacific Northwest we're gonna start by toasting our fresh big fun then we're going to spread a little cream cheese on this and we whip this in-house with a garlic puree then this is going to get some onion straws they add a great texture they almost become like onion lettuce on top of this we're gonna put our dog and then some more cream cheese and finally we're gonna top it with some fresh chopped scallions and tomatoes and that is our Seattle brunch first of all delicious this is my first meal of the day so I went with the cream cheese cuz I like breakfast is a real creamy finish there's nothing is overpowering the Seattle grunge is just the tip of this beefy Berg with eleven gourmet topping Laden dogs on their regular menu a hot dog of the month and a variety of ever-changing farmers market specials hot diggety is like a vacation for your mouth it's always changing they're always offering something there's just always something fun to try bearing names like the Windy City Texas Hold'em and the Bronx bomber each dog pays delicious homage to the region that inspired it hot dogs represent the quintessential American sandwich every city has their own version so we put together I think what was the essence of each city's hot dog whether it was patriotism or a simple passion for hot dogs fans have been ready to stamp their culinary Passport ever since they take these different styles from all over the country and they bring them too it's a little slice of those places they're on your plate it's great this is the desert dog you have a lot of different textures you've got the chips on top you've got the onions and the cilantro there as well it's a little Mexican flair to it which is great I'm eating the big kahuna dog with pineapple and onions and also stuff that I would normally put on its really good my favorite hot diggety hot dog is the Fiesta dog I didn't know wok Molly on a hot dog can be so good I'm a big fan of the Cincinnati Skyline mixes hot dog with a deep showing I feel that I thought this out of comfort it's got the it's really good like homemade coleslaw on it so it's a picnic meal for just fasten your hands Keith dreamed up the idea of hot diggety while he lived in new york city a town teeming with hot dog devotees I started thinking about what hotdogs mean to New Yorkers and they meant something different to Philadelphia so I started to explore that idea more we traveled to as many cities as we could just trying to find out kind of what the core of those hotdogs were and we kind of made our own riffs on some of them chef Keith didn't have to travel far to get the idea for his menus most bizarre bun stuffer the fully serpent herb finds its roots in his very own backyard hot dogs actually have a really important place in history in Philadelphia all the way back in the late 1800s right around the corner from this spot a place called Levis is created the combination of a hot dog and a fish cake so we made an effort to bring that sandwich back with our Philly surf and turf so we started with a fish cake which we make with bacalao or salt cod that we get from Spain and we mix that in with a potato mixture and then wrap the entire hotdog in the fish cake and deep-fry it then it gets topped with pepper hash which is an Amish condiment it seems odd to have a hot dog with fish but the combination is and the pepper hash gives it a crunchiness delicious the give is place pizazz keith commissioned local artist Hawk crawl who came up with original paintings that portray the menu selections in weiner wonderful ways your work in here is great cuz it's really creative and it's the best way to do a menu I've ever seen the whole thing is like at a temple of the hotbox with its central location in the hipster South Street neighborhood hot-diggity has attracted a crowd of creative eaters and it's fast becoming Philly's go to hot dog hot spot I think it's great when people come in here and they get to try all these different hot dogs they get to learn that you know this food that they hold so close to their heart is something that other people you know thousands of miles away also kind of have a real special connection to I don't think you can find a hotdog place like hot diggety anywhere else it's like nothing I've ever seen before it's awesome
