NJ's Rutt's Hut

to Clifton New Jersey just 10 miles east of New York city known for its no-frills attitude New Jersey is a place of small communities and strong traditions along Route 21 in the town of Clifton you'll find ruts Hut that deep-fried paradise that's kept families coming back for three generations basically my whole life this was one of the pioneers of fast food if you would and way before McDonald a treat was throw everyone in the car and drive them over to Russ Hut all this devotion for a simple hotdog well for ruts regulars it's not just a hot dog the best hot dog in New Jersey and probably the best hotdog in the US I think their balance is out of this world to their past their speedy they're cheap and they're good put the New Jersey Russ huh most famous hot dog place are ruts Hut has kept its customers hot for their dogs since 1928 their trick tacos are unique for one reason we deep-fry them our hot dogs we call rippers because when they go into the oil they rip open its the 350 degree vegetable oil that makes the dog tear and crinkle leaving the outside skin crisp and chewy while the inside is soft and juicy that's why you want to come here this is the leg last stronghold for hot dose don't even think of messing with your Ripper because ruts hut isn't about to change their ways we basically just serve on the fun we don't put typically any toppings on it we can get cheese or onion on it but we don't put chili we don't put sauerkraut just the way it's been done since 1928 the dogs are all called rippers but if you think ruts Hut is a one dog wonder think again when we first drop them in they go down to the bottom once they come to the top the first dog which would essentially be like a rare steak if you would would be an in-and-out er the next dog which would be sitting for a minute or two longer would be a medium Ripper after that we have a well-done Ripper and the one that top stat is the cremated Ripper rumor has it that in the past if you wanted to brave a cremator you had to sign your life away cremate Oh burnt to a crisp yeah you have to have a Selective epitaph in one of those kind of tastes like very well-done bacon the cremator has the consistency like a pretzel stick and what one thing would they have you put on your dog they're famous ruts Hut relish a secret blend of mustard and spices that's topped their fabulous Franks for over 80 years the gold they say he's the is in the relish that's what I'm talking about that's good right there number one way to go cue the hot bug in any world but you could only eat the relish it loves Hut we go through 120 gallons of relish a week and how many dogs does ruts Hut go through in a day we couldn't even tell you how many we sell we don't who don't count I would say in thousands they brought started this establishment in 1928 it was his grandmother's secret recipe from Germany my family purchased it from him in late 74 we try to keep everything consistent we keep it the same way he brought had all the recipes are the same we try not to change anything here because the old timers that come here remember their youth when I first started coming here the boys had drag race down on the route 21 right down below us I was overseas for eight years I used to have the same continuing dream two rippers french fries hasn't changed and I think that their secret mustard relish and then just the deep frying process here so you need that by yourself our compliments to mr. Rutte right nothing's changed and all those all those years nothing strange and just like the food the integrity of this Jersey born stand has remained the same some part is those all stand up and you know you rub elbows with anyone grandmothers grandfathers kids everyone someone we got to get out here take care of fun yesterday we had a football player here and won the Super Ball eating a hotdog next to you know show the mechanic rumor has a Babe Ruth fate here back in the day yeah that's a big rumor ever brought suck the stories that yeah there's a lot of nostalgia and a lot of salt yeah 80 years worth of souls in and out of this place lock root cat it's got its own unique way though is that's what makes it different you know Freddie and a large to an order to go we say travelin cheeseburger DD traveling we have an orange soda but it's called a howdy but grilled cheese is called a gorilla you want a hot dog this is a hot dog home this is a hot dog if you're coming home passing through or making it a destination Rus Hut will definitely satisfy your every fried dog need touches a lot of people outside of the state of New Jersey you know it turns much of what ruts Hut is really all about a great deep fried
