hello YouTube I just got back from a week in Barcelona at mwc and while I was there I got the opportunity to take the new honor magic 6 Pro out for a quick spin to take some photos and videos with it I had my trusty Vivo X100 Pro in my pocket as usual and I couldn't resist making a quick comparison of the video and photo performance it's not as in-depth as I'd like but I got a variety of different subjects and a variety of different lighting conditions so it should give you a good idea of how these two phones compare so let's take a look okay starting with the front-facing cameras of both of these phones the honor magic 6 pro has up to 4K 60 whereas the global version of the Vivo X100 Pro still maxes out at 1080p60 and uh the honor magic 6 pro has autofocus as well whereas the Vivo x00 Pro doesn't I don't really know where I'm going it's quite hard to navigate while filming yourself with two different phones but what can you do so I did notice the the Vivo is a little bit wider in video mode but in photo mode it's the other way around let's try and not get hit by any cars oh my god let's move on all right so for these rear camera clips I'm recording voice over separately the uh the ambient sounds that you hear are from the cameras you know noted by where the microphone symbol is one of the first things I noticed is that the ultra wide on the honor magic 6 Pro is a lot wider than on the Vivo so much so that sometimes you can see my hand in the shot from where I'm holding it and on the long end I didn't use any digital Zoom for this test so the honor magic 6 Pro only has a 2.5x optical zoom so we're getting nowhere near as much Zoom as we are with the 4.3x lens of the Vivo X100 Pro I do think at longer Zoom lengths the Vivo X100 Pro looks like it has better stabilization this 4K 60 clip is slowed down to half speed obviously yeah I'm really not impressed with the slow-mo on the Vivo X100 Pro um the 1080 120 looks better than the 1080 240 but it still doesn't look good and you can see here that the magic 6 Pro just looks so much crisper there's so much more detail so this shot was just designed to show uh indoor um AR icial lighting performance for both of the cameras I do think the Vivo is giving us better stabilization and it's um handling the highlights a bit better so those those fairy light things at the top look a little less blown out on the main camera and again the stabilization looks better at longer zooms and we can zoom a lot closer now this is getting to seriously low light about as low light as I could get in the city center anyway there's more there's more motion blur from my footsteps with the honor but there's worse lens flaring from the overhead lights on the Vivo I think the honor is giving us more realistic colors to what the scene actually looked like whereas the Vivo is kind of uh overexposing very slightly and we have that signature purpley bluish Hue to the sky with the Vivo which I personally quite like I think there's a bit more detail retained in the shadows from the Evo here and that's probably thanks to the larger sensor okay it's now got pretty dark it's raining a bit as well so apologies if the uh camera gets a bit dripped on yeah here's how they compare at night all right moving on to photo performance I did mess up a little bit because the Vivo photos are all in 16x9 and the honor photos are in 4x3 but at least they're easy to tell apart anyway we've got a portrait shot here obviously not of a person but of a a wall looking at the photos overall I'd say the Vivo is more pleasing initially because it's less washed out it does have the Vintage filter on I think but yeah that that aside it's just a bit more contrasty and a bit more exciting to look at but if we zoom in on him see this looks like a similar level of detail on the INF Focus areas it's a bit of a shallower depth of field on the honor although at the extreme end it's not looking as blurry really if we look down here like that Vivo is doing something more interesting with these kind of Boke ball effects so these are two ultra wide shots from the same location let's take a look up at the sign h's not done a great job with the Reds here that's all completely blown out whereas that's been retained on the Vivo over here if we zoom in closer on this sign it's mushy on both yeah you can't can't zoom in that far on the ultra wide the um the honor is a bit wider on the ultra wide like it was in video which I personally quite like similar pictures overall Vivo is a little more contrasty I think but they're very comparable now same location but on the main lens these are obviously taken a couple of seconds apart because the people are in different places but uh so now let's zoom in on this sign again and we flipped um this time vivo's blown out all the red lettering on the sign here whereas that's retained quite well on the honor over here the uh the honor shop are on these stickers on the lamp post as well if we zoom in to the sign but we kind of flip text looks sharper on the Vivo looks a bit more crusty on the Anor good dynamic range actually for the clouds here Vivo is doing a bit of weirdness with these plants it's kind of a bit of haloing by the looks of things but when you zoom out we are pixel peeping they're both nice photos I believe this is 5X zoom on both I think 4.3 on the Vivo 5x on the honor from what I can tell definitely sharper text on the Vivo here on this sign there the honor there's a bit of uh it's getting a bit Pixy same for these signs in the background oh it's way better that's way better on the on the Vivo same for this sign here it's much more legible on the Vivo I guess that's the difference between an optical lens and a digital crop in this case Okay different location both on the ultra wide both look to have very good dynamic range honor wider again which I like uh and again the honor looks a bit washed out compared to the Vivo but at least you have all the detail there you can always add contrast in your preferred editing program if we zoom in and look at the details it looks quite similar although Anna seems to have captured a bit more detail in these plants here whereas it's a bit dark and mushy in the Vivo and same for the brick work I would say the uh the honor Ultra wide did a bit of job here now this is the main camera on both quite similar shots more contrast on the Vivo again bit more washed out on the honor still got some detail in the clouds it's a bit more bluish on the Vivo and if we zoom on in this butter guy in the window looks sharper on the Vivo there's not a massive amount in it yeah I'd say the Vivo looks a bit sharper but is it too much sharpening in real life the the bricks were not as contrasty they're kind of more like this on the right then there's some like unfortunate aberration up here there much cleaner on the on the Vivo yeah these branches are sharper as well as is the sign for that glance they're kind of similar shots now this is 2x if we zoom in this but guy got completely blown out whereas all the details there on the Vivo that's way better but these the bricks again look pretty oversharpened same with these penguins down here completely blown out let's take a look up at this Angel Le butterflow man up here vivo's controlled the Highlights better whereas the the lamp's completely blown out on the honor Vivo just looks looks more detailed when you start to pixel peep but the Honor's done a decent job as well okay this is 10x zoom on both so that's a pretty massive Zoom from where we were standing as you saw how far away this guy was on the ultra wide let's take a closer look see how the details are retained on both Honor's processing has made a mess out of this sign I'll be honest I can't read what it says on either of them but yeah there's so much so much more detail here this looks a bit like a watercolor on the horor whereas it looks more like a photo on the Vivo I think Vivo is definitely winning when it comes to zoom which is no real surprise given that it has a much longer physical Zoom now if we go in even closer this is 20x zoom and you know you can see the same thing both look a little crusty if you look in if you zoom in on the details but there is more detail on the Vivo for sure and either way it's kind of impressive that you can get shots from that far away on a smartphone okay now we have another portrait mode shot and immediately what stands out is the honor has completely blown out the highlights on the polar bear's head whereas Vivo hasn't so you have zero detail here it's just full on white whereas you know you can see the texture of the fur still here the the cutout looks quite good on both although I feel like Vivo messed up here with this reflection in the window that it thought the this wind charm thing was further forward than it was whereas whereas Honor's successfully blurred that out but overall it's just a much better shot from the Vivo so let's not worry about the details too much all right now we've got another portrait mode shot again you can see that the Vivo is a bit contrasti and moodier than the on a shot but that might just be down to the Vintage filter that I left on accidentally to be completely honest but if we zoom in and look at the details honor has cut his nose off um but his nose is covered on the Vivo oh that's bad as well there's a complete misted area here on the honor yeah both kind of struggled with the twiddly bits on the end of the guitar um but hna's done some nice stuff with these fake Poké Balls in the background it's a bit of a cleaner line on the cut out of the mic whereas uh yeah H just kind of bed it a bit there on the other hand Anna kept the guitar cable in Focus whereas Vivo just got rid of it completely yeah I would say vivo's done a better job overall neither are perfect yeah but VI's done better here okay now moving into lower lighting it's getting dark now and this is the ultra wide on his looking sharper as well on the text on the signs especially these and the indoor Lighting in general I think the the honor Ultra wide does better than Vios now this is the main camera of each H is looking very Overexposed is doing some quite a natural stuff with the sky although it does look Pleasant at a glance but you can see that haloing where it's dark in the sky oh but look at that difference in detail that's astonishing okay I believe this is 2x on the Vivo and 2.5x on the honor so obviously Honor's cropped in a bit let's take a a look at that sign again yeah vivo's kept more detail for us there the highlights are better on this um on this 2.5x but it's still overexposing you see how that that's all blown out on that sign as well whereas if we could get close enough we would see the actual lettering of the sign on the Vivo okay this is 5X zoom on both start with the sign closest to us it's actually better texture on the honor on the right they the the lettering sharper on these signs in the distance on the Vivo yeah better detail in the web URL here see that's kind of all pixelated and messy whereas oh especially that it says Barner Center you can actually read it on the Vivo you can't on the honor plank kind of looks better on the honor but then if you look in the background at this box with stickers on it's so much better on the Vivo different areas exceed in different ways overall the the colors actually look a bit more realistic on the honor like the warmth of this uh this light here it wasn't as white as it is in the um in the Vivo picture and the kind of it was later in the day it was it was quite a dark scene whereas vivo's really brightened it up now delicious pint we should have a shallower depth of field on the Vivo because it has a larger sensor and it does look to be the case if we get in and look at the details the honor looks sharper is that down to sensor size possibly because you can see the the like Mig of the S Miguel logo is a bit it's pretty sharp on the Vivo whereas it rolls off on the S and the L because of how thin the focal plane is either way both quite nice shots I think I prefer the honor shot because you can see the bubble better I think that might be a downside of having such a massive sensor to be honest now this is the 4.3x on the Vivo and the 5x digital crop on the honor in the same conditions this shot from the Vivo is just really nice I think the colors look great and uh so so much crisp detail on these little bubbles whereas they're very soft on the honor it's a pretty massive difference actually you can even see you can see the texture of the printing on the Vivo I'd say it's a clear winner and not just because the composition is a bit better in 16 by9 but just overall it's a better shot so these two I held the phones next to each other and genuinely shot them side side to get the most accurate comparison with the same people in the frame uh vivo's at 4.3x and honor at 5x let's go in and look at some details let's look at this chat first both have done a pretty horrible job with his face but uh vivo's done slightly better I think there's some artifacting going on here yeah Vivo is looking a bit sharper overall on these signs on the text oh especially here these um these were like tree root type things that were hanging down from a doorway quite interesting but there's so much more detail especially we go in closer so much more detail you can see on the Vivo oras that's kind of a spaghetti mess on the honor however we did get a pretty big lens flare on the Vivo and in general people talk about the T coating like it's amazing but I get a lot of lens flares on the Vivo so I'm not really sure what that's all about but whatever it doesn't ruin the shop but there is a lens for here and there's not on the honor this lady's bag is sharper on the honor yeah the texture of the ground is much much better on the honor as well I don't know how accurate it is but it's very soft on Viva images as a whole I don't know they're pretty similar um colors might be a little more realistic on the honor but there's not a lot in it and the Vivo is more detailed so yeah that's about that one little bonus thing that I wanted to show off the honor magic 6 pro has an adjustable aperture not very adjustable but it's adjustable from from f1.4 4 to f2.0 so just to try that out see what a difference it makes I shot these two closeup photos of a pint again the one on the left is at f1.4 and the one on the right is at f2.0 obviously that's not a massive difference well it's less than a stop of difference but you can actually see the changes so if you look at the edge of the Pint glass it's a lot more in focus when it's at f2 then when it's at F4 the uh the Boer balls in the background are a lot bigger at f1.4 a little bit smaller at f2 bottom of the glass too you can see it's very blurry at the bottom of the glass at f1.4 whereas it's a little more in focus at f2 this here yeah text more legible too yeah much sharper sharper everywhere really when it's stopped down a little bit so yeah weird feature uh I mean it would make a lot more sense if it was like F4 or f8 or something but cool to see that it does make a difference and uh yeah that's what you can expect if you use the variable apure on the on a magic 6 Pro okay that's about it for this one let me know in the comments which phone you thought did better and if you like this kind of thing get subscribed cuz there's always more phones on the way including the new xiaomi 14 so yeah look out for stuff on that and I'll catch you in the next one [Music] toodles
