I don't know about you guys but when laran Studios wins Awards or it's praised for things that they've done it actually makes me so happy inside for them and it also gives me this feeling of Hope for the future of gaming when you listen to Sven vinka the creative director and owner of laryan Studios talk about his game other higher-ups talk about balers Gate 3 I've personally spoken with so many devs from the team from all different tiers all of them really just give off this genuine Vibe of just being so passionate about what they've created and being so proud of their work and that's amazing and it actually makes me kind of sad for devs that don't get to work for companies like Lan and unfortunately there's a lot of companies like that now back to winning Awards well it's that time of the year where Awards start to be given out and companies that had successful releases in the year get to celebrate or hopefully celebrate their achievements now the larger and more hype game awards ran by Jeff Keeley is not until December I think 7th but the golden joystick Awards just finished and even though there's there's not nearly as many people watching that and a lot of people seem to actually not know about it this is actually a really important award ceremony in fact it's the longest running award ceremony out of all the award ceremonies that have existed I think this one started in 1983 and it's also the second oldest award ceremony so it's still a pretty big deal now as most of you are probably aware by now bg3 was a massive massive success we have a game that falls into the rather Niche genre of crpg that made headlines around the world and there are so many players that are playing bg3 that I would have otherwise never considered even thinking about playing a term-based party based RPG so yes balers Gate 3 is a big part of the golden joysticks Awards and I'm going to go over all the awards that they won and let you guys hear some of the speeches that were given because I think this is important for the gaming industry as a whole and I hope that we get to get something similar when the more hype Game Awards come around in December which I will be live streaming let's start off with an award that wasn't the first award given to laran Studios but it ties directly into everything that I just discussed and that is Studio of the year and the winner is larryan [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Studios thank you very very very much on behalf at uh everybody at Laren Studios uh um I don't I didn't prepare anything because at these award shows we usually lose uh so uh so I didn't want to jinx it um so a couple of years ago I uh I tweeted at some point we were in the bar with some of the team we drank too much and I went to the toilet and I tweeted the word team and so they all asked me why did you do that and I I never answered them because I was being very mysterious about it and so they started using the word team everywhere in the slack Channel and you kept on hearing the word team team team team everywhere where you went in Len Studios and uh the reason I tweeted is because I was so proud of them of the work that they were doing and in the really hard circumstances and so there they are team thank you imagine Bobby kodic going to the toilet and tweeting out team yeah especially in our business where our responsibilities to bring joy and fun to people around the world oh anyways so yeah much deserved award right there and Sven is clearly really proud of his team and also them getting through all the hard circumstances that they've had to deal with and if I recall correctly several peeps in the industry earlier this year went out of their way to point out all of the fortunate circumstances that Lan has been able to enjoy and take advantage of without pointing out a single hardship that that they've had to endure and there is a lot but that's not the point of this video so I'm not going to make that the point of this video Bravo Tarion and all of the devs over there I'm just so happy that they won that award in my opinion I feel like that award is even more important than winning like the actual game of the year all right on to another very important Award Best storytelling game of 2023 all right let's Ki it off with our first award for best storytelling the winner is balers gate [Applause] three thank you guys um it it means so much to us uh to to be recognized for storytelling it's something that's so much to the heart of all that we do all of us um so thank you to everyone we made a story we gave it to the world we've seen tens of thousands more stories that people have made fanfiction fan art the response that we've seen is people loving it and wanting to make more stories make more stories yes so that was crystal the associate lead writer at Lan and of course Adam Smith the lead writer who also worked on the Divinity series I got to say I'm very happy that they won this award as someone who's a huge fan of Forgotten Realms stories I think laran did a wonderful job tying their story Into the lore of the Forgotten Realms and I also think this game was a huge step up in terms of Storytelling when you compare it to Divinity original sin 2 and of course we want to see companies just continue to improve so Bravo to Adam and of course Crystal I had the pleasure of meeting both of them and both of them are wonderful humble human beings so shout out to them and of course the rest of the writing crew at Lan don't forget you know we tend to get caught up in the voice actors and actresses wonderful people they deserve all the praise that they've been getting I think they've done so much for balers Gate 3 but we can't forget you know the writers are the ones responsible for making this even possible in the first place so awesome award to win since I just mentioned the vas let's talk about an award that was given for the best supporting performer I'm back again and the award goes to Neil noon G three please welcome Neil newor to the stage hi it is so much more nerve-wracking the second time they don't tell you that um really people that know me know that I'm quite Gess this is a weird moment to not exactly know what to say I have a list of people that I do have to thank I will try and get through it very quickly um but first I just want to say um my journey to games was an interesting one because when I found games I was broke I was on my knees I actually was very close to quitting the games industry and the games industry has given me nothing but character work embracement love passion great friends and I just can't thank everybody in this room enough for including me in this and everybody that's worked with me thank you so so very much um to be amongst such amazing people amongst peers again the nominees are incredible uh is really overwhelming so thank you very very much indeed huge thanks obviously to swen to Lan the beautiful Studio that they are who's been so supportive have given us this incredible work the incredible writers my writer Steven Rooney who's incredible um this Rich world with wizard of the coast have also given us and to all the people that are there supporting us the directors uh Pit Stop Productions with Josh Weeden Jason Latino and without Jason and swen I wouldn't be here so thank you without Josh Weeden as well to Michael Dallas for incredible support for all the actors as well thank you so much Greg lyston area there's too many people but really thank you so much um I also want to thank many people that I'll see personally my agents especially on people like that but one thing I wanted to say is that this character has meant the world to me he is a Survivor he has gone through trauma and I've had so many people from the community reach out to me personally who talk about the stories that our characters have also shared they identify with many stories and characters in the game that the game story itself has really reached them and people have come up to me um and said that they felt inspired to deal with their own trauma um as a Survivor myself I understand when they talk to me about it what they mean that they feel seen by the game they feel understood by the characters and that is a testament to this amazing beautiful Masterpiece that Lan s the writing team have all put together and created and the amazing cast of 248 beautiful actors that put their Heart and Soul on a daily basis to this I'm going to be missing a lot of people I need to say thank you but I just wanted to say that thank you so much to the community for embracing all of us and for me particularly thank you so much indeed I really appreciate it so my family thank you for dealing with this to ceter and Coco love you loads thank you for making me a better person and I think the best way of saying it is uh in naran's voice if you don't mind thank you this is a gift I won't forget it thank you very much inde thank you now if you notice the person who presented that award is Maggie Robertson who played or in the red in balers Gate 3 and she did such a phenomenal job with that character one of my favorite villains I think in all of video game history and Amelia Tyler was also one of the nominees for that award in my opinion Amelia Tyler just gets her own award she doesn't need to be part of any of these we just give her her own she did such a fantastic job such an important role in the game Neil nuban came out on top here and that of course is welld deserved Neil is a character who truly embodied aarion and the fans absolutely love him his performance is topnotch he totally just is just given into this role and embraced it and is very proud of it and I think most of us are very happy to have him be part of this game so I think he does deserve it and that's of course not to take anything away from any of the other vas for the companions specifically you know think of like gaale and Tim Downey who is the voice actor for gaale tremendous job but gal's character doesn't really stand out as much as Aaron's does and that's not Tim's fault that's just how his character is not every character is this you know exaggerant personality like aarion aarion just stands out when you think of companions in this game that doesn't make his character better or worse than another another companion it just makes him stand out and it requires a standout voice actor and Neil did that role so well Jennifer English with Shadow heart she might be one of the best vas in the industry if you act ask me actually carlac voice actress got to present one of the awards and with my background in Indies it is an immense honor that I'm here to hand out the award for best indie game a category that I'm sure strikes a cord with all our hearts or infernal engines or anything else that might power your Insight and curiosity now seef Stars One best indie game laran does technically fall into the independent category but you know the general definition of what people think of when you say an indie game is you know a smaller company that doesn't really have as many resources so it makes sense why laran wasn't part of the nominees for that even though they are independent seia Stars uh from what I've seen it deserves that award hold on let's stop giving awards to all these cool voice actors and actresses and these you know companies like laran Studios how about an award for us best game Community goes to balers Gate [Music] [Applause] 3 well that was uh awkward it's a lot of lights for a man with extreme social anxiety so I'll keep this short uh a lot of unnecessary stuff happens in this industry to get these games made uh we go through loopholes hardships uh many many many things a lot of unnecessary things but one thing that remains necessary is our communities they are our lifeblood they celebrate with us when we succeed and they hold us accountable for the many questionable decisions we make as a collective industry without them we wouldn't be here and for them I want to dedicate this award and I wish I had millions of them to to ship around the world they really are what keeps us here and what keeps us afloat thank you to all of you that play games I wish I was playing them right now and not doing this if you're a watcher of my channel and a participant in the community the Discord the live streams you know video comments Etc if you think you're not a part of this award then you are sorely mistaken laran Studios is very very aware of the wolf pack it's kind of cringey to to say that but we are the wolf pack and um I think that as a community as a whole you know if we Niche down into the wolf pack specifically we have been a huge part of the balers Gate 3 development and I'm so happy to be uh someone who helped be a part of that I guess you could say and laran Studios has invited me to one of the panel from Hells in the past which just shows you how aware they are of this community and our feedback our criticisms Etc so Bravo to the community as a whole but specifically I'm looking at all of you guys that have been following my channel and participating with my channel for a while now because we did make an impact on this game and uh we've been recognized for it in a way so love to hear now I do want to point out something that Michael said and Michael is the director of publishing everybody's favorite balers Gate 3 Twitter account uh who tweets out some great things I've met Michael several times now and uh I do want to say that he really is someone who enjoys games and wants a better gaming future a better gaming industry and in his statement during that award rate there he said is our communities they are our lifeblood they celebrate with us when we succeed and they hold us accountable for the many questionable decisions we make as a collective industry clearly all of us are aware that the gaming industry although there's still many good games you know the practices have been quite Shady over the past 10 years or so things are just not the same as they used used to be and you know to have the director of publishing at laran Studios talk about that that also gives you hope for the future of specifically laran Studios of course but also hope for wherever people like Michael end up in the future and hopefully he can Inspire other developers to want to feel that way as well and now on to best visual horn best visual design and the winner is balers gate three all right hi everyone I'm really proud to take this award in my hands uh visual design we came a long way with laran Studios um I did the art Direction on the game like But like everyone knows art directors don't do much it's really thanks to The Talented team at Laren Studios that we were able to bring all the D andd magic just to the screen so again thanks a lot everyone and that was your Kim limix probably pronounced his name wrong the art director at laran Studios obviously a very important role even though he downplayed a little bit there I don't think anybody would deny that Lan Studios especially with the in-game cinematics kind of took the genre to a whole another level so I do think they are deserving of this award but there was one award that balers G 3 wasn't even nominated for which blew my mind and that was the best audio award and at first I was thinking oh they're going to have like a best soundtrack later on but they didn't so I kind of think the soundtrack falls into the best audio bg3 wasn't even nominated and look I get you know bg3 is winning every single award it's not really fun for other companies but I am just mind blown that pg3 is not on that nomination list but you know we have the December game awards which are more hype and bigger so hopefully our boy Bobby the composer of balers Gate 3 can win something over there cuz he is truly deserving he's one of my favorite people in the gaming industry all right we only have two more Awards to talk about and they're both similar to each other but they're both the most important Awards I guess that you could probably win let's start off with PC game of the year and the winner of PC game of the year is Balter gate three so yeah I I I really didn't prepare anything uh thank you very very much I have so many people to thank so I'm going to try to keep it short but I do want you need a book to read go ahead um first and foremost I want to thank the people that voted for us uh it is uh incredibly appreciated and I think it's important to actually uh explain and take at least 10 seconds to explain why awards are important uh to teams like us um when you put a group of developers in one room and you ask them why do you make games you typically are going to hear two answers and one of them is going to be I'm making games because I want to solve very comp complex things video games are very very hard to make they involve so many disciplines that have to work in concert to AR uh to arrive uh at the final result and so that's the first group the second group is going to tell you I just want to have people see people have fun with stuff I make I want to entertain them I want to reach them emotionally and so the first group the ones that want to solve complicated challenges they're usually served very very well because the game works it runs it ships it's okay the second group often is doubting themselves tremendously they got the critics Awards or they they have their critics reviews and they say to themselves you know yeah but it's all you know yeah but it's the critics it's like a limited group and then they have Steam and they have like the people that point up and point down and they say yeah but the only thing they can do is point up and point down then I have Metacritic the user rating and they say yeah but that's an army of trolls but then finally you get something like this and you say you know guys you really should stop doubting yourself you actually did really really well and so uh so this is uh yeah so first and foremost I want to thank the team uh they did an incredible job across six years it was very very hard for at times we had really lots of external circumstances interfering with development but they persevered out of passion for what they're making I want to thank our friends and family I want to thank my wife Valerie in particular um the it as it were hard years coid and so forth we needed a lot of support and we got a lot of it there's really been a lot of support around us so I'm I'm really grateful for it I want to thank our partners of course um we had a lot of them uh Pit Stop Productions uh the actors uh who did an enormous amount of time uh in the studios recording continuously we recorded you you really don't want to know how much we recorded and didn't use and people were just like when are you guys going to stop writing the script and we just kept on going and going and going uh all of the people that helped us create assets all of the the people that translated the game they also asked us when are you going to stop writing the script and we kept going and going and going um our player community uh they have been incredibly important for creating this game uh the game was three years in Early Access they helped us shape it they told us what we were doing wrong what we were doing right and there was a incredible level of support from players the the amount of fan mail that we got the amount of stories that we got Neil just talked about it it's insane it's really really cool it's very motivating for Developers and then finally uh I want to thank Wizards of the Coast also because uh I I [Applause] have I have to because the pinkertons are sitting at the table uh but uh but no really as a licenser they gave us card blanch uh they asked us in the beginning when we started working on this six years ago what are you guys going to make we told them one thing we made something else they left us alone they let us do our thing and that's the way a licensers should work with a lensey for all the licensers uh inside of the audience so thank you very very very much uh this is very cool thank you a CEO that actually genuinely cares about his game being really good those still exist I also like how Sven kind of gave some advice to licensers in the industry you know one game in one company can make a difference and make an impact okay the final Award of the golden joysticks is the ultimate Game of the Year hi I'm Sam I'm the GL chief of Games Radar and the winner of Ultimate Game of the Year is B Skate [Applause] 3 please welcome Laren stud Studios to the stage thank you so I I I think this is going to be our most covered award because it was voted for by players and we we make it for them I mean like and there's yeah there's nothing better than uh making a difference in someone's lives playing your game knowing that they have a little escape from reality uh have fun with it uh this is the reason why we all do this thing this is the reason why all of you do uh what we are doing so yeah especially in our business where our responsibility is to bring joy and fun to people around the world uh thank you incredibly very very very much in a very Belgium way thank you very much uh so thank [Applause] you I'm sorry this this this one thing I would like to add right um it's a lot of stuff that people forget um as game developers we have people at home our partners our kids and you know when you work on a game that's like six years long right it's insane the amount of things you do the amount of people that pass away the kids that get born you know it's it's an insane thing so it's really nice to uh you know share what we've done throughout all these years with everyone and it's that's just beautiful I I hope you all feel this right because we all we all go through this thank you and there you have it somebody's using a saw right outside my window I almost feel you know a little emotional here seeing laran win all of these Awards as someone who you know obviously I'm in my 30s now so I've played a lot of games over my lifetime and to feel like the gaming industry has been on a little bit of a downward slope over the past 10 15 years or so has been tremendously heartbreaking for myself and companies like larryan Studios kind of restore that and I'm so happy that they're getting the praise that they deserve can't wait for the December game awards let me know what you all think about this we better win something for for the soundtrack in December where I'm going to I'm going to break my monitor I do have plans of life streaming the Jeff Keeley game awards right here on this channel so on December 7th if you want to hang out with this community specifically keep an eye out for that we still have just about a month though until that occurs I'll catch you all for thank you all so much for watching this by the way and I'll catch you all on the next [Music] one
