seven you may have heard this before because a couple of months ago pastor said that our code of conduct was two five seven so what is two five seven and what do we mean when we're saying two five seven it's taken from 2nd Corinthians 5 verse 7 for we live by faith and not by sight so this means that we have to trust in God in all things we have to live by faith and we have to trust and believe that he will help us through all things so let's move on to our activity so have you heard the story on when Peter was able to walk on water yes I said it he was able to walk on water can you imagine being able to walk on top of water I don't mean swimming I don't mean diving I mean walking on top of water how amazing when Peter had faith he was able to walk on water when he began to doubt and lack faith he began to sink but when he had faith he was able to walk so the task this week we want you to draw electronic pictures of when Peter was walking on water so you can do this on a tablet on a phone you can use one of your parents or carers phone to make an electronic poster so we want you to do a poster that represents walking and living by faith and not by sight and using the story of Peter or when he walked on water and once you have done this we would love to see your posters I did one earlier take care and stay safe and we'll hopefully see you very soon situation [Music] that is want to go back we took a quick break last week because we thought it's so important that we made some statements and looked at what the Word of God said and tried to bring some awareness and some understanding because I think if there's gonna be illumination for our way forward to a better future than illumination will often come through good conversation and I hope what we presented last week was a blessing to you in terms of the whole issues surrounding the sound of silence and if you didn't watch that go onto our YouTube channel after this if you're watching me on Facebook and those of you already on our YouTube channel which is the tab London you can go and catch what we said last week I know so many of you by the way I should mention so many of you have already clarified to us that or been real open with us I should say that what we produce last week has helped bring clarification in your own workplaces it's been mind-blowing to hear how many testimonies of people have come in saying that last week's program you were able to show your friends you were able to share it with your relatives and have healthy conversation and get some insight into what the current situation is so thank you those of you who gave us that kind of feedback as well god bless you guys well today we want to get back to our school series we began some weeks ago asked what we call the school series we talked about home school then I had one of my friends come on he talked about middle school then I talked about upper school and today today I want to talk about something else I still connected it's kind of like an extension and addendum and annex on to the building of last talk in terms of the school series where we talked about upper school and I want to take your minds right to the book of Mark Mark's Gospel and it's going to come up on screen in just a moment Mark's Gospel chapter 9 is a phenomenal story that takes place and we can glean just a little wisdom I hope as we walk forward in our school series from mark chapter 9 and in verse in verse to hear of mark chapter 9 in mark chapter 9 it says after six days Jesus took Peter James and John with him and led them up a high mountain Jesus took Peter James and John with him and led them up a high mountain where they were alone they were all alone there he was transfigured before them can you imagine this supernatural moment he's transfigured before them his clothes specifically became dazzling white whiter than anyone in the world could ever bleach them back then that's the way of course they be able to make something bright through their their bleaching washing system their own I guess artisan laundry system and it says and there appeared before them Elijah and Moses these two characters from the Old Testament appear there with Jesus as he's transfigured who are talking with Jesus Peter said to Jesus rabbi it is good for us to be here he's real excited let us put up three shelters one for you one for Moses and one for Elijah he did not know what to say they were so frightened surpise just saying anything a little bit of verbal diarrhea is coming from pizza here is he's just shocked at what he's seeing then a cloud appeared and covered them and a voice came from the cloud this is my son whom I love listen to him suddenly when they looked around they were they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus as they were coming down the mountain Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until he the Son of Man had risen from the dead they kept the matter to themselves discussing what Jesus meant by rising from the dead well today I love this particular pericope of text I think it's full of potential for our purpose and our movement in terms of our wanting to aspire and go forward and higher in our lives but today's installment I'd love to give it this title and I want you to look at the person next to you if you're sitting in a room with other people interact with them and if you're by yourself look back at me and I want you to point your finger like you're talking to somebody and just say I am in high school today's topic is high school okay it's interesting here Jesus took them up a high mountain and I think there's some lessons for us as we go higher ourselves in terms of things that we can learn as it relates to our journey with Jesus Christ as he guides us in our movement upwards okay so today's topic is high school I love this particular text but it's interesting because the text is full of Revelation not just for us but for the gentlemen who are in the story Peter James and John they were young teenagers Peter probably in his early 20s the others were in their teens and people often forget that that Jesus is Cru he was a thirty year old as it were by the time of course we are introduced to him in terms of his ministry but of course he's surrounded by these young men teenagers early twenties most of them not particularly educated fishermen and at that time they wouldn't have been the erudite or the perspicacious of their generation but Jesus still believes there's greatness on the inside of them and I love that already because Jesus often uses the least likely because that way when you go to your next level you can't say it was all to do with you you have to bring Fame to Jesus name and celebrate him as being the one and your faith in him as being the thing that's been able to push you forward but what's interesting to me as we open up is I think about the generation we're in today and when you look around at different things you realize that we do things because we've analyzed through psychology through sociology that not everybody can see everything at the same time what do I mean by that let me unpack it give me a moment if you look at DVDs those of you who still get DVDs if you look at particular movies especially particular locations they have particular age limits on them so if you're going to watch a certain movie it might be classified as a 15 or a 13 or a PG or 18 and all these things are interesting because they're indicative of the fact that even in our own psychology and sociological understanding we recognize really we recognize whether it's computer games whether it's DVDs and movies not everybody is at the same level of maturity to be able to see everything in other words we have to guard and watch or be careful of what we allow certain people to see because not everybody has the same level of maturity to handle everything even what you wouldn't want a nine-year-old watching scarface scarface is one of my favorite all-time movies you wouldn't you wouldn't want that happening because you know it's not really beneficial or that mind is not yet developed enough to be able to handle what the visual is and so what we have here is an understanding that if you're going to really have a revelation if god's gonna reveal things to you for you to be able to see certain manifestation of the blessing of god in your life then it's going to be highly dependent on your own maturity some blessings are an eighteen blessing but you're still operating with a fifteen mind does that make sense i hope it does because i think it's very interesting as we understand that even if in our own humanity we can understand that god in his divinity was the first one to recognize that and what we have here already and here's our first lesson is the Bible says that Jesus out of all the disciples and remember he had more than just the twelve he had five hundred big crowd of 500 following he had an out of the 500 around 70 then out of the 70 he had around the Bible says around 12 and then out of the 12 he pulls certain places takes certain places these three guys Peter James and John he takes them places he doesn't take anybody else and and I want to talk about a couple of things to do with that number one I want you to notice how Jesus had circles of influence circles of connections the 500 the 7212 and then the three he loved everybody the same he was as respectful to everybody I'm sure it wasn't that you have to be rude to one crowd and nice to another crowd but you understand that not everybody has the same level of access into certain areas of your life and already here we are seeing Jesus taking Peter James and John he takes Peter James and John and he says he says I'm gonna he gives them a call to go higher now I want to talk about calling real quick because if you're gonna take your life if you're gonna see your life taken to a whole new dimension and in spite of what we're seeing happening in this lockdown where everybody's feeling a little handcuffed a little inhibited a little hindered as it were by the current situation I still believe we should be planning to move our lives to new levels move our careers to new levels move our relationships to new levels always on the up okay always trying to go higher always trying to upgrade and what I find fascinating here is Jesus is is giving a call he's calling these three guys to go higher and I think anytime you have an upward calling there's always gonna be a fight with most of us as humans there's an upward calling from God but what often hinders our upward calling our higher higher calling those of you from a Christian background you recognize this phrase a high calling anytime there's a high calling from God there will be a struggle between your high calling and your low craving your high calling and your low craving in other words watch this and I wrote down a few things here because I want to really keep it real there's always a struggle between a call to higher values uh-huh but yet a craving to lower lusts a high calling and lower lust craving you've got a calling you like what God's wanting to you to go to he's calling you hey I want you to go to a new level you love what you're seeing and calling to you want to connect with what you see in him calling you to but yet you still have lusts and an appetite and a palate for lower level thinking and lower level things and we've talked about this a little bit before but it's something that we need to talk about a little bit again because I think there's always that tussle and until you break off your lower appetites you'll never be able to enjoy the delicacies of a higher life of a higher calling and here's what is the struggle for many people many people we want to marry our future while still being in love with our past we want to marry our future while still being in love with our past we want to watch this now we want to marry our future and I'm use that as a metaphor as an analogy of wanting to get an attachment to what God has for your future that higher calling but you still got so many connections you still going on Facebook and checking out your past you're still going on Instagram and checking out your past rather than lock in that that past of whether that past is a past job I passed boyfriend a past Church iPad whatever it might be instead of just letting that go and moving forward because you can't hold on to your past and your future at the same time God expects a double grip on your future and this is why what often happens is is we crash our future because we end up watch this now we end up cheating on our future with our past because we still have the palate for lower level thinking if you're going to go higher there's got to be a break in there's got to be a detachment during this season from what was to embrace what God has for you call to go higher we're in high school today the other thing I want to mention here is interesting to me another hard lesson to swallow look on screen look on screen the Bible says he took he took Peter James and John my god I mean we could spend a long time on that one we could spend a long time on that took thing there he took Peter James and John he did not ask come back to me he did not ask he taught them that gives me a little insight there into the fact that all of us need to be ready for when God gives us the opportunity to go higher that's why we can't connect and have the same old level lower level conversations as I mentioned before we've got to use this time as preparation when people who you know mean you no good when people you know and no good for your future are trying to pull you back into negative fights and negative drama and all this kind of stuff you need to learn not to take those calls and if they ask you why you feel you're bigger than them now why you why you feel you're detached from there tell them look listen here's the problem I'm in preparation for my elevation that's why I can't get involved in every conversation because I'm in preparation for my elevation I'm getting ready I want to be ready cuz Jesus did not he did not warn Peter James and John saying guys in a few days I'm gonna take you up the mountain and show you things you've never seen before I'm gonna take you to a higher level he did not warn them he just took them and I believe this is a season where we need to be ready because we never know we need to be prepared preparation for our elevation because we never know when God is gonna send that connection your way you never know when God is gonna send that opportunity your way you never know when God is gonna open that door as they say when opportunity knocks will you be ready when opportunity rod knocks will you be ready to open the door and this is why this is a season for us I believe we can use this as a season of reset for us to be prepared for the new levels that God has for you I know some of you may have been going through difficulty during this season I know some of you going through loneliness some people have gone through you know even a little bit of mental health issues as you go through this this difficulty of having to navigate by yourself those of you especially especially if you live alone navigating this lonely a season but the fact is I want us to grab this season back into our control and use it as preparation time for our higher calling your best is yet to come he took them he took them up a high mountain he he took them called the three out of the twelve he took them up a higher mountain but I want you to notice something else here that I think is important he took Peter James and John up the high mountain can you imagine if it was today can you imagine if it was today and Jesus took just three people up the mountain and left the 500 at the bottom of the mountain left the twelve the seventy whatever it is if it was today in today's jealous context in today's hater envy environment you don't see something that I love this you don't see the twelve the 70 out of 500 complaining saying Jesus what about us how can you take dem guys higher and you're not taking us to the next level how can you take Peter James and John and we've been walking with you as long as they have but you're not taking us to the next level we want to come to you don't hear any arguments back and I love this I do love this and I do respect this in the text I think the absence of of complaints in the text is indicative of something that we can learn and glean in our generation because I think maybe maybe just maybe that the disciples if you'd allow me a little conjecture and a little preacher imagination maybe the disciples realized you know what those guys are called to go to the next level and we're supposed to be on this level in other words maybe the others knew that they were in their right lane not every time you see somebody else going to another dimension does it mean you have to go to that dimension in other words watch this now something I say all the time and you've probably heard it many times before you only slay in your lane if you stay in your lane if you learn what your calling is what level you're called to how your call to operate that's when really you end up fulfilling your purpose operating with a sense of achievement because you know you're functioning in the call that God's called you to he called Peter James and John to a new level but the others didn't complain they weren't upset now here's what this generation does and I know this is the popular teaching and some of you are probably not happy with what you're hearing already but hey we're here let's have a real conversation it's interesting because this is what this generation would do we then try as the other disciples to be like Peter James and John we'd want to try and talk like them or walk like them or or try and have the same insta layout as their mores trying to have the same website as them thinking that if we look like them then we'll be taken up the mountain to rather than understand it if you stay in your lane you will stay in your lane if you understand who you're called to what you're called to what level you're called - then you'll fulfill your purpose you see one of the worst things you can do is try to be somebody else don't try to be me don't try to be somebody else don't try disciples don't you know please Matthew don't try and be mark Matthew Peter don't try and be John don't try and be James don't try don't just be you because you're called to be you and your contribution to the world is you here's the problem when you try to be me you rob me of you the best you you can be the best thing you can be is the best version of you instead of always trying to compete with other people because you want to go higher when you might not be here's the reality I know this isn't popular teaching you might not be called to operate at that same level hey this is one of the most unpopular things to say but I'm gonna dare myself to say and I accept the day how about being a phenomenal number two why is everybody always obsessed would be in number one being the CEO being the captain but listen there's a lot that you've got to be ready for at that level sometimes it's good to be a brilliant number two then ah okay number one the disciples weren't complaining Jesus took Peter look at it again on screen man Jesus look he took Peter James and John he took Peter James and John and yet the disciples are not complaining here because here's the first thing I want to I want to put all what I've just said they're under one back bracket I want to call that the principle of separation watch that now separation because in order for you to go to your next level you often have to get your heart ready for separation and this is one of the problems with this generation we do not like separation we don't know how to leave things alone leave lower level thinking alone leave old relationships alone and walk up into our future separation is a part of elevation separation is a part of elevation you will always have to let go or lose something or use something to be able to go to the next level you've got to drop some weights the book of Hebrews tells us we need to lay aside every weight and sin but look at that first thing it says the weights that are stopping you going higher and moving forward in what God's called you to move water the principle of separation the other thing I want us to notice here is this and this is interesting to me Jesus takes these guys Peter James and John and they're climbing up this mountain now now now I want to notice it was probably more than likely most theologians agree it would have been Mount Hermon you can check out go Google Mount Hermon in Israel today Mount Hermon is approximately a little over 9,000 feet high so this is not just a hill this is not just Calvary's Hill this is not just the hill this is a for-real Mountain okay he takes them up this mountain which means watch this now there's going to be environmental changes and shifts as you go higher as they're taken higher there are environmental shifts there are changes in fact there is snow at the top of Mount Hermon today in Israel this skiing that takes place in certain areas on top of Mount Hermon Mount Hermon has snow at the top yes no in Israel the top of the mountain so there's it gets colder watch this now don't miss it please it gets colder as they get higher mm-hmm it gets colder as they get higher and I'm loving because I know this is a generation who thinks that everything they see on Instagram from people who are at the top that looks so glamorous and looks so wonderful is what's giving you the desire to want to go higher yourself without realizing that it can be cold at the top the environmental changes the shifts that take place the oxygen levels drop the air gets thinner as you mountain climb so there are shifts that are taking place now why am I saying that I'm because of the principal the second principle the first principle is the principle that talks about of separation the second principle I've got down here is the principle we need to wake up to as we are in high school the principle of environmental change are you ready for the changes that's the question because as you go higher your circle gets smaller you've heard everybody talks about that everybody posts that and it sounds like a great soundbite but it's a reality are you ready for those kind of changes because if you have people addiction you aren't ready to go higher you aren't ready for those shifts for those changes you aren't ready for people who said they were your friends but ended up only turning out into your frenemies as you go higher because they get jealous of where you're going this these are the environmental changes you need to get ready for and something else I want to say while we're on this topic while we're on this topic of an environmental change I want you to realize something here this is very important because a lot of people have a misnomer or a misunderstanding as it relates to God and blessing okay Jesus is taking them higher sounds great sounds glamorous look at it on screen he's taken them again up the mountain sounds wonderful but I want you to notice if there's environmental changes if it gets colder come back to me if it gets colder as they're going up the mountain if as they go higher there are environmental shifts if as they go higher there are oxygen level drops if they're if all this is shifting as they go higher it teaches us something that watch this now if it gets colder as they go higher it means as Jesus is leading them up the mountain it means that following Jesus does not always feel nice following Jesus does not always feel nice it's not always going to be in fact listen many of us have got a nice addiction to God we only want to follow God when life feels nice but we've got to understand that often time God will lead you through what feels difficult to get you to your destiny difficulty is often the womb of destiny did you hear me you're controlled it out there difficulty is often the womb of destiny in fact I've told you this before say it again at the risk of sounding a little redundant or repetitive it's not repeating necessarily it's more me trying to emphasize this point because I've found out that things like birth birth is a very difficult ugly process it's bit gory it's a bit bloody and I hope I don't sound misogynistic here and I'll sound too anti-birth I'm not that I love I love people I've been there when my own daughter was born and it's a beautiful thing in terms of who's produced but the process of production is difficult and we've got to understand that as God gets ready to birth you into your new dimension as God gets ready to take you higher there's going to be difficulty and don't interpret every difficulty as the devil not every difficulty is the devil I will say it again because I know there are theologians and people who homemade theologians who believe they understand more about this than than anybody else the Bible is proof of the pudding that often time difficulty is the womb of Destiny and not every difficulty is the devil sometimes God has to lead you through that difficult process to get you to that higher level understand this here this principle of environmental changes means that following Jesus does not always mean you're going to be led through comfortable environments it's not always going to feel nice God actually in the Bible and I'm gonna preach about this one day for you guys that's how about home God in the Bible is actually never called nice he's called good God is good without a doubt God is love but it doesn't say that he has to always bring you through everything nice and sometimes the difficult to you encounter is just a part of the process because difficulty is often the womb of destiny we're in high school today I want to take you to this next level here because there's another principle I want to mention while we're in this high school topic and I'm giving you these different principles in this high school installation of our home school series and it's the principle of humility this is again something that's slightly antithetical to today's culture the principle of humility watch this now the Bible says he took Peter James and John up a high mountain number one I want you to notice here there's gonna be a culture shock for them and for many people there's a culture shock if you don't realize watch this now that you are going to be taken out of the familiar into something that might not be your comfort zone what do you mean by that Pastor Mike he was taking these guys out of the familiar into something that was not really their comfort zone he's taking fishermen mountain climbing he's taken fishermen mounting these guys of fishermen these guys are used to nets and water they're not used they're not used to low oxygen and high mountains and snow and cold they're used to water and fish he's taking fishermen mountain climbing in other words there's gonna be a culture shock for them as he gets ready to take them higher are you ready for a shift out of your comfort zone because if you're not ready for a shift out of your comfort zone you're not ready to go higher watch this here Jesus did not send them up the mountain I've been very emphatic at the risk of sounding like I'm trying to work out what I'm saying but I've been very emphatic those who've been listening keenly you've noticed I keep mentioning this word he took them because the Bible does not say that Jesus sent them up the mountain it said he took them look on screen look on screen it says he took them he took them up the mountain took them if Jesus took them up the mountain watch this now they had to be humble enough to recognize that they needed to submit more than ever before to Jesus's leadership because they're going where they've never been before as God begins to take you higher never get to the stage where you start drifting from God because you're starting to go higher in life now that's the time you need to be closer to God so that he can guide your footsteps order your steps help you navigate relationships and connect and interpret the area and the location your incorrectly according to his spirit because his spirit knows all these guys had to be submitted the spirit is the principle of humility they had to be submitted to his leadership because he's taking them into territory they've never been in before something held somewhat you to realize when it comes to mountain climbing in this topic of humility we're dealing with the principle of humility in this high school episode but something else when it comes to mountain climbing he's taking them up a high mountain I've already talked you about the culture shock them coming out their comfort zone he's taking fishermen mountain climbing but something else I want you to realize as you go higher the spirit of humility must remain on all of us because there is a temptation to feel like you don't need correction there's a temptation to feel like you don't need anybody to tell you anything as you start to see your life go higher you start to see your life start to be promoted you start to see blessing more blessing Finance influence whatever it might be as you go higher there will be the temptation to believe that you don't need correction but correction is actually a necessity you need to be submitted to God you need to get around good leadership you need to connect with people who can call you out who can speak to you about the truth about areas that maybe you may be getting a little lofty a little more than yourself in because this generation doesn't want to receive correction because they don't realize correction is protection correction is actually protection it's protecting you from your own arrogance from your own pride it's vitally important and here's what often happens listen to this mountain climbers I don't know if any of you watching me here know about mountain climbing in depth but I found something out which blew my mind and that's that mountain climbers if there's ever an accident most of the accidents many of the accidents at the very least that happen with mountain climbers serious avid committed to mountain climbing the biggest thing that they're afraid of is not so much slipping the biggest thing mountain climbers are afraid of is something called watch this altitude sickness altitude sickness I know you're gonna google it my Millennials are gonna check everything I say altitude sickness is interesting because the symptoms while you're climbing of getting altitudes sickness watch this now as you go higher the higher you go oxygen levels drop and you can be susceptible to altitude sickness as what they call it the symptoms of altitude sickness are double vision slurred speech feel slightly dizzy fuel a little nausea slike you might be sick and so many more symptoms that are very much like initially the symptoms of when you're drunk now you don't need to tell anybody in the room whether you've been drunk before or not but the fact is the symptoms are very similar so when you're drunk and here's the principle I want to say as you go higher be careful that you don't get drunk of your own success there are many people who as they go higher it's almost like they're so full of themselves they become intoxicated on their own sense of self achievement and that gives birth to pride and arrogance and the Bible says watch this for mountain climbers for people you're going higher the Bible says pride comes before a fall watch that there this principle of humility we're in high school today if you're being blessed by anything that's being said so far I need to see 300 at least fire emojis let the world know you're in high school you're listening somebody at that high school somebody hashtag high school today let's somebody now share this and let somebody else know who you know might need to hear some of these principles that need to be adopted and adapted into their lives that we're in high school today look at these symbols coming up I love you guys watch this the other principle I want to bring up is the principle of perspective see these guys get taken up this high mounting they get taken up this high mountain and I want you to realize that they got to see Jesus and differently from how any others had seen him before Jesus is about to be transfigured before their very eyes they're about to see something nobody's seen before because as you go higher your perspective should change one of the signs that you're going higher is not just necessarily more money not just it's necessarily a better position in your workplace but your perspective on life changes as your heart goes higher because what you don't want is that your head goes higher and your heart your character don't go higher with it see what do I mean by that I'm trying to let you know something here and that's that as you go higher one of the great ways you know you're going higher is that you don't see things like lower level thinking people see things anymore as you go higher what you would have got involved in when you are down in the valley you no longer have time for that the fights the arguments the disagreements the foolishness that you would have had time for when you were a valley person you ain't got time for when you're a mountain person you start to see things differently some of the old arguments that you normally get dragged into that he says she says that did you hear what they said about you as you got higher like if that's what they're saying about me I'm flattered that they talk about me it must mean there's something in me that's drawing their attention I'm going to keep my life moving because I've gone higher their perspective changes as they go higher I want to realize Jesus now here we go he is transfigured can you imagine this supernatural moment as Jesus is transfigured his form is starting to change in front of them this is a mind-blowing sight for these three guys Peter James and John the Bible is very specific look at the specificity of the text here it says that as he as he transfigured his clothes began to shine bright his clothes began to shine bright as he was transfigured in other words watch this now as he was changing his clothes began to change what why am i mentioning that because I think there's a principle here you see when you change everything that's connected to you begins to change you can't expect things to change unless you change when you change watch this now everything connected to you change your marriage doesn't change till you change your job doesn't change till you change your career aspirations don't change till you change how you manage your money doesn't change until you J you have to change first as Jesus is transfigured his clothes began to shine bright the writer of course at that time doesn't have much to compare Jesus with but what he says is this he says - he says one thing and there's something else in the backdrop that's very interesting he says he began to shine and see his clothes began to shine so bright brighter than any laundry process could make them and no laundry process could make them any brighter no bleaching nothing could make the clothes any brighter because Jesus began to change this is interesting to me look on screen look on screen it then says this now now watch this now it's interesting because I want you to realize as Jesus is closed began to shine bright it's introducing us to something else come back to me it's introducing us to something else this the principle of comparison see God I believe wants to be able to trust that when he takes us higher we never make what he's taken us to supersede him in other words let me put it in another way God will never bless you with something that stops you worshiping the blesser and celebrating instead the blessing there's nothing wrong with celebrating blessing there's nothing wrong with being pleased about going higher there's nothing wrong with celebrating having a promotion but when we get to the level where we allow the blesser to drop to number two and the blessing to drop to number one that's when it becomes a problem and God needs to make sure that you will never compare him to where he's taking you to what Pastor Mike where's that in the script let me give you let me give you some scripture here because I want to connect scripture to topography and to the geography and the landscape where he takes them to see he's taken them to the top of the mountain the top of the mountain it's snowing this is one of the reasons why Peter when he speaks up because he doesn't know what to say in the midst of all this drama going on this this Moses and Elijah and Jesus and we're at the top of the mountain and all this he doesn't he starts saying shall I build a shelter for each of you because of course you're on the top of the mountain there's snow at the top of Mount Hermon it's snowing at the top of Mount Hermon and here's the fascinating thing notice snow one of the brightest things you can get but yet they do not say the snow was brighter than Jesus's clothes Jesus was the brightest thing not even the snow could be compared to Jesus you know they tell me they tell me whether it's true or not I'll let you find out but I heard through a rabbinical connection that I have that tradition had it there back in those days the woman who of course in a very patriarchal environment the woman usually were the ones who met down by the river to wash their clothes whether it's in the Jordan or wherever else or down by whether they where they gather to wash their clothes they'd wash their clothes and then what they do is they'd hold the clothes up and in the distance you'd have the top of Mount Hermon and they compare they compare the brightness of the clothes to the top of Mount Hermon to see whether the clothes needed to go back in for another scrub so what I'm told then based on that anecdote is the fact that the comparison as to how bright something was was often the top of Mount Hermon and yet even these disciples on the top of Mount Hermon realized that Jesus is brighter than even the snow on the top of the Mount even what was known at that time contextually as being the thing that you compare things to in order to see how clean or bright they were Jesus could not be compared this is why Jesus could trust to take Peter James and John up the high mountain here's the question for us today while we're in high school can Jesus trust to take you to a place where you will not allow that place or position or person to supersede your relationship with God because God will never take us places he'll never bring us to pee he'll never bring us to positions that then become our God that's what we call idolatry I know this isn't popular teaching but it's real teaching nonetheless he needs to trust your heart and all of us all of us want to go higher all of us want our lives to go to the next level all of us want to go to high school metaphorically so that we can go to our new dimension but God wants to know will your heart turn from him to the blessing instead of the blesser you begin to worship the blessing I want to close with this because what's interesting here is for these three Jewish boys what they see is interesting the journey was worth it because they see Jesus transfigured yes but they see who appears on the mountaintop with Jesus to Old Testament figures to Old Testament figures appear on the mountain look at the scripture look on streem it says Moses and Elijah Moses and Elijah appear on the mountain with Jesus these are two Old Testament characters but you've got to understand Jewish historical theology to really grasp what this picture speaks to us off see see come back to me see what's interesting is Moses always represented Israel's or Jewish history Elijah represented their destiny their future because they believed in their theology that there was a messiah that was going to come and rescue them rescued him from oppression rescue them from Roman rule but before the Messiah came Elijah was gonna come back and announce that everybody should get ready for the Messiah so on the mountain in a Jewish young Jewish boys mind he sees Jesus and on one side of Jesus he sees Elijah and on the other side of Jesus he sees Moses in other words on one side of Jesus he sees the past and another side of Jesus he sees the future because watch watch what we have here we have a picture that speaks to us it says only in Jesus will your past and your future collide and make sense no matter what you've been through in your past you only start seeing it make sense in terms of your future when you're in Jesus this is why I want to close with this today and invite everybody who's listened to this high school teaching this principles these principles that we've outlined about what we need to adopt what we need to learn what we need to become if we're going to go higher to the next level that God's called us to if we're going to walk through these principles if we're gonna see our past and our future make sense I plead with you to accept Jesus become a follower of Christ I know not every Christian is perfect thank God and honor every Church is perfect thank God because to be quite frank any perfect person would expose the imperfections on us but what's great is that even at the tab church you can join our church with your imperfect self why because not even the pastor is perfect we are all on a journey of being made more mature of being perfect kid according to what God has predestined us to become and I would love for you right now if you're not yet a follower of Christ to pray this prayer with me say father in the name of Jesus I realize that I need you in my life forgive me of my past and set me on a path to my greater future I believe Jesus Christ is Lord I believe he died for my sins and for my past failures and that I am forgiven and now saved by the child is saying I want to go higher but watch this is what's important I want to go higher with you that's what the child's saying and as we lift our hands today we say father I thank you for your grace I thank you for everybody lifting their hands right now this is a sign that we've been in high school today and we are asking you to take us higher not by ourselves we want to go higher with you because nothing will take you away from us and nothing will take us away from you nothing will separate us from the love of God we love you Father and we know that as you take us higher we through our lives will bring more Fame to your name take us through these principles teach us help us to look again at what we heard today concerning separation concerning environmental change concerning all the things to do it perspective concerning the things to do it humility all the things to do it comparison all the different principles we learned today in high school I pray that we won't just have them going to our ears but have them going to our heart as we consider whether we're ready to go higher but Lord we ask you to bless us now with insight knowledge and understanding that will take us to our
