Hidden Tool in an Outlet Few Know

in today's video i'm going to show you the hidden tool in an outlet coming up next [Music] hi i'm leah of cj drill and if this is your first time here can i just say welcome to the we're a home improvement channel where beginners are welcome as well at the top of the video i talked about the hidden tool in an electrical outlet so here's the thing there are actually two tools that you can use one is well known and it's on the back of an outlet the other one well it's a little hidden you have to know that it's there well i'm going to show you both and i'm going to show you how to use them and that hidden one well i think you're going to be a little surprised so let's get started one is a tool that many know about and what it is is it's this gauge right here it's a stripping gauge it tells you how far you want to strip the wire for side wiring so the wire stripping gauge that's the obvious tool but there's a hidden tool that few know about and what it is is this right here right here on this side and on this side here are wire strippers on the left hand side it's a wire stripper for 14 gauge wire and on the right hand side it's a wire stripper for a 12 gauge wire so let me show you how it works this slot right here is intended for 14 gauge wire which is what we have i'm just going to insert it here and what i'm going to do is i'm just going to slide it down like so now i'm just going to take it twist it back and forth a couple times hold the outlet firmly and push off there we go we have our stripped wire now we're ready to do our side wiring now you may never use the wire strippers in an electrical outlet but here's the thing if you ever find yourself in need of wire strippers and you don't have a pair you just might use it after all this is leah saying you can do this see you next time you

tldw; on the back is a little gauge to tell you how much to strip the end of your wires, on the top are two metal cutouts you can use to strip different thicknesses of wire

I wouldn't recommend using the "wire strippers". The plug brackets are made from very cheap metal and can bend very easily and sometimes will pop right off the plug.

I've worked in carpentry, replaced and installed many outlets in my life...

And I just learned this today. Mind blown!
