rev up your engines wolf gaming says why do people buy mercedes-benz you said they're endless money pits well everybody doesn't believe me and if you've ever heard the fable the emperor's new clothes a lot of people think oh luxury car mercedes i'm going to buy one for my business and oh look i got a mercedes-benz now ages ago if you talk about the 1980s in houston where i used to live the rich oil men everybody mercedes benz was the car to have to show off to everybody that's what everybody did but soon after lexus started getting big selling lexus luxury cars and a lot of my customers that had had mercedes they said scotty thanks for telling us to buy the lexus it doesn't break like our mercedes he said we're sorry we don't see you as much but oh this car just doesn't break down i said don't worry about it i got plenty of customers i'm not worried about it anyways i'm an honest guy i'll tell you hey you know don't buy that buy this all cars eventually break you got enough customers with enough cars you can have more business you can handle they would all say these lexuses they're great they're luxurious they're beautiful cars but they don't break like mercedes did and it's still that way but understand last year in the united states mercedes sold many more trucks than they did cars they're more in the truck business now than they are the car business so they'll continue to make snob mobiles as long as people buy them the average person won't because they'll see ah they're drunk and they fall apart jimmy v says merry christmas scotty scotia the new jeep wrangler is made like junk now that they're built by fiat well you kind of answered your own question there yes they were okay for a while but they've been going down and down and down kind of a history of down originally the jeeps were made by the willys overlander company you know world war ii and then american motors bought them and they made them and they were still okay but then chrysler bought american motors and they got rid of all of their vehicles except for the jeeps and the quality went down even further and then when fiat bottom the quad is going on even further and if you want the absolute worst pile of junk jeep get a jeep renegade that's just a four wheel drive fiat 500 and they're absolute piles of junk the rankings at least are better than that the new york ave geek says scotty merry christmas my friend just bought a 2017 infiniti q50 with 47 000 miles for 25 grand did you get ripped off i know infinity these in general nissan products are crap all right well it's only got 47 000 miles those are very nice luxury vehicles they're driving around for a while generally they don't fall apart till they get 120 000 miles or more if he's happy with getting that i would have never paid that kind of money myself i'm too cheap but you call yourself the new york avenue geek if you're in new york city that's the price that cars go for they just go for money and a luxury car goes for more he would have been much better off buying a lexus or an acura but i mean he's bought it he's got his muzzles take care of it because i mean a brand new one cost a lot more than that too imagine how much money the original owner lost in two years three years samuel says scotty what counts as a good pre-purchase inspection well you know if you want a good one done you want to pay a mechanic and they should do a whole bunch of stuff i charge about 100 bucks i do all kinds of stuff i road test them i jack them up i hook my computer and analyze the live data if it's a suspect car like a subaru i'll do a head gasket blowing test with my little chemicals there's a lot of stuff that can be done ask what somebody's going to do and see if it's worth what they're charging you if some guy says oh don't worry i check it out for free and he spends 10 minutes not worth you're getting what it's you're paying for it nothing you want somebody spend at least an hour doing a bunch of tests and stuff and with modern computers hey i can test out a car really quite well in a relatively short period of time but i spend an hour generally because i want to look at everything make sure it wasn't wrecked flooded smell it look around take it for a good road test see how it shifts when it's hot when it's cold when it fast when it's slow so at least an hour if they do less than that it's not really a good pre-purchase wolf gaming says scotty what's the best vehicle for the snow acura or lexus well they're both excellent in the snow just front wheel drive ones as they stand and if you get either in four-wheel drive they are both excellent cars for the snow you want a big luxury car now if you want to go a little bit cheaper the subaru they are excellent the snow they always have been they're not race cars but if you get a four-cylinder one they can often last quite some time you'd pay a lot less but if you want a luxury one if you got either acura or alexa that was four-wheel drive they are both excellent with the all-wheel drive systems that they have and they both if you were gonna do that though i would get a lexus all-wheel drive the acura's occasionally have failures with the all-wheel drive and the lexus is i've never seen the all-wheel drive system break on any i've ever worked on scotty what's your favorite 60s muscle car alright you might be surprised it's a general motor product i really like those pontiac gtos with the giant big blocks in them those were screaming cars now they were useless cornering you'd kill yourself but in a straight line they just went and went i mean they didn't get much for gas mileage you really drove them high you get about four miles a gallon and things but i like those details they called them the judge here comes the judge and they're worth a lot of money if you got an original big block if they ate and one of these days they go for a ton if they're all original equipment af says scotty looking at an o5 honda element with two hundred and five thousand miles in standard training and he's new bushing and maybe shock seller wants 5k would it be worth the purchase and maybe swap an engine he's asking too much for that thing people always think too their vehicles are worth too much money i'd pay a lot less than that they can last a really long time but it's got a reasonable amount of mileage on it i think he's asking way too much money people live in fantasy worlds where they look up these stupid book values you say my car is worth this well those are made up book values by the people who give values of cars they're companies that write the books are now owned by the companies that sell the most used cars in the united states so it's a totally rigged system you say to the person oh you want that though that's what the dealer's asking say with the dealer sell me one for 159 a month will you finance it for one fed oh no we want all the money so you want all the money and i pay awful lot less and that's how the world works so try to get it lower ethan gretzky says my lexus gx 470 vehicle speed control track lights are on and don't go off especially extreme weather thoughts all right the traction controls to keep you from wrecking yourself they are very complex as they age they break sometimes it's as simple as the speed sensor went bad on one of the wheels they just bolt off and bolt on you're just going to be guessing at your stage find a mechanic like me that's got a high level scan tool and at least let him scan it and tell you what's wrong and he might say okay your left front speed sensor is gone and you can decide do you want to pay what he's asking or you want to jack up the car and just bolt it off and bolt on a new sensor it's your choice but you need the information now you can also buy a higher level scan tool there are scan tools out there that cost as little as 180 bucks that can do all the abs sensor checking so you get one of those you could do it yourself and not have to pay a mechanic because most mechanics charge about 100 to 150 an hour labor these days so why not buy some equipment if you're going to try to fix it yourself jake and singh says scotty i know how crap the new durangos are but what are your thoughts on the first generation durango are they any good well they were still chrysler products they were better than the new ones because they didn't have fiat running the company which is the italian company that owns chrysler and soon it's going to be called stellaris slant or something where it's fiat chrysler and peugeot all stuck together like the three stooges of car manufacturing but the older ones if you can find one in good shape it could still be a decent vehicle jackson kirby says who makes the best cvt as far as i'm concerned it's a toss-up between honda and toyota they both make excellent cvts now they both design and build their own and they both have what are called launch gears so they take off on an actual gear and then they switch to the cvt transmission once they get out of first gear it gives them quick speed better gas mileage those things are fantastic my son's got a corolla with the launch gear on it he loves it and he drives like a maniac and he says that not only is it fast but he actually gets better gas mileage than the rating was for it so that really says something roger melonson says it's hard to replace oxygen sensors on a 2010 honda cross store sometimes they stick on pretty hard but if you get the socket removal tool and you have a long extension bar that it snaps into you can just about get any oxygen sensor off as i believe was archimedes said you know give me a lever long enough i can move the earth you get a long enough lever you can take anything off and you get the socket that fits your sensor so let's say you don't have one well you got to buy a new sensor right right so when you're at the auto parts door say i want the socket that fits this and see where yours is on the car and decide you need a socket that's a straight on socket or one that's a right angle socket and some of them even have twisted arms on them to fit in weird places see where it is first and then decide which socket to buy other than that it's just unplugging and screwing it out and then it's not rocket science it's just you need enough power so you need a long extension bar i find a three four foot one always works wes mcc says i got an o6 solera 256 000 miles with steering pump intermittent can i get away with a non oem pump and sensor all right i don't advise rebuilt ones because they often stink but i have installed brand new pumps now they were made in china but they were sold by autozone autozone backstair stuff in autozone of course getting a lot of stuff from china and being such a large corporation they actually study what happens and if they buy from a company in china and they get a lot of returns they stop buying from that company and buying from another company i got a friend who works at autozone he told me he says yeah our computers take tackle and if we find out we get 20 percent returns on these pumps we go to another company and there are good companies in china there's bad ones but there's also good ones and there's such a big corporation they know so you have to go to autozone and you get a lifetime warranty from so if it does break you never have to buy another one anyway so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell you
