half in the bag insert skit here well Jay it's the beginning of the summer movie season I can't wait for you know you're waiting for Indiana Jones and the dial of Destiny you know I don't know what the the consensus on the Internet is about that one it doesn't look too bad it doesn't look too bad Shut Up listen I did a little research okay there are 34 most anticipated movies of the year not just the summer movie season because based on what and it was just an article I just Googled it and I found a bunch of movies because I was like what's coming out this year I don't know I don't want to go to like IMDb or Wikipedia because there's going to be this is 34. there's going to be 3 000 movies coming out right right just random stuff but this is these are the biggest movies that translate most anticipated to biggest movies one's expected to actually make money so out of this randomly selected sample 34 films take a guess how many are original ideas and how many are existing IPS reboots remakes or prequels I'm going to say one of them is original and 33 yes you're a little too cynic 28. okay our existing IPS reboots remakes or prequels Six Original ideas however out of those six original ideas three are based on real life historical people oh okay so three so Oppenheimer yeah um well the other ones be uh there is a flash because Michael Keaton's Batman's back no no that's not a real per well it's a real person Michael Keane's a real person but Batman is not a real person oh oh there's a a movie about Roosevelt there is from Martin Scorsese coming out what there's a Martin Scorsese movie coming out I haven't even heard about it yeah oh wait Leo's in it isn't he I think I saw a problem I don't know I did I just read a little paragraph okay and I think I think I did see like one blurb about it so the interesting part is the the six uh original ideas uh half of those are based on historical people I've highlighted them are all done by high quality filmmakers we got asteroid City coming out from Los Angeles um the Roosevelt movie uh of course Oppenheimer Christopher Nolan which we saw the trailer for today and it looked looks pretty good explosive oh David Fincher is next with an original movie called The Killer this comes kind of Noir thing I thought he gave up on features I thought he's just doing TV stuff now uh Taiko Titi uh has a movie called Next gold wins don't know what it's about but I think it's an original idea I don't recognize the IP for as being from the Super Mario Brothers universe or a dinosaurs or or superheroes okay and then Ridley Scott is making a Napoleon movie oh are these these movies based on historical figures are those like that's the The Prestige director's version of Marvel IP I can't get anything made unless it's about like Roosevelt or something unless it has a recognized unless it's a recognizable name yeah um but of course there's going to be a lot of other original ideas uh probably smaller films that are that are coming out so this is obviously not a a complete list uh here's here's what's what's coming okay uh fast ax which we saw the trailer for pretty great it looked like one of those movies uh The Little Mermaid Spider-Man across the spider verse a sequel to the cartoon Spider-Man spider verse moving not to be confused with the three live action spider versus yes Transformers rise of the beasts which I was surprised I thought these movies were done they were but now there's Nostalgia for them because that first Transformers movie came out like 15 years ago at this point isn't that scary uh extraction 2 which is a sequel to extraction one what the [ __ ] is extraction it's an action movie with somebody in it The Flash movie of course Indiana Jones and the dial of Destiny Insidious The Red Door Mission Impossible part I just wrote Mission Impossible it's Mission Impossible it's a two-part seven part one or something like that yeah uh the Barbie movie obviously based on uh toy line from Mattel Disney's Haunted Mansion another Ninja Turtles movie oh yeah that's kind of a spider-verse style is it cartoony yeah it's not not the CGI or live action mutant Mayhem Gran Turismo which is based on a video game video game adaptation the Blue Beetle uh equalizer three not to be confused with extraction two uh there's a movie called Craven the hunter that's a comic book yes but he's a Spider-Man villain he was supposed to be in the next Andrew Garfield Spider-Man if that existed but it didn't but this is because uh uh who owns Spider-Man movies it's not Marvel Sony Sony so this is one of those pathetic Sony movies where they get the runoffs from Spider-Man villains like the Venom movies sloppy seconds uh now we're into the Exorcist Cinematic Universe The Exorcist believer I like it's David Gordon green is doing those it's a Trilogy of Exorcist sequels uh much like his Trilogy of Halloween sequels and even though I really liked Halloween ends I also saw Halloween kills evil dies tonight so I don't have much faith in this because the Exorcist is one of the best movies ever made I put it up there a little bit higher than Halloween even though I like the original Halloween but evil dies tonight that's all you got to say Satan dies today Satan dies tonight uh uh oh saw x 10 Saw movies more Dune that's what it's called it's not called Borg dude yeah Dune two more dude uh oh the Marvel [Music] it's just don't the Marvels which we saw which Alex insufferable people screaming girls screaming little girl fangirling over other Marvel uh characters she's on a TV show yeah her name's Captain Marvel well no it's a marvelous I don't know Miss Marvel The Fabulous Miss Marvel yeah and so so girls get it done uh uh Hunger Games prequel oh Ballad of songbirds and snakes gotta catch it yeah it's a Hunger Games prequel that's it that's a fantastic title Wonka prequel oh yeah that comes out the same day as some other movie hopefully not Dune two more Dune no I can't remember what it is but it's like that movie comes out oh it's the same day as some like romantic comedy with the what's her face Sydney Sweeney from that for that show for perverts euphoria yeah I've watched the entire thing so I saw that but they've all came out the same day and I was like I can't wait to not watch both of them I thought Wonka was going to come out the same day as a reboot of The Color Purple which would have been appropriate oh because Wonka's suit is purple yeah yeah yeah yeah although Color Purple you know based on a book uh originally starring Oprah Winfrey back in the day directed by Steven spielbergo uh big successful oscar-winning film and now they've made another one why not another color purple huh I I guess the Ghostbusters after like afterlife sequel is coming out this year although it doesn't have a title unless this article I read was like six months old that might have been pushed back Aquaman and the lost kingdom finally uh uh and then oh there's a third Legally Blonde film oh was that Alicia Silverstone no that's uh Reese Witherspoon oh right Alicia Silverstone is Stone is clueless Clueless yeah good the most baffling IP film ever it's called wish and it's a Disney prequel backstory of the wish in the statement When You Wish Upon a Star why don't they just call it when you wish upon a star so people know what the hell it is because wish is catchy and simple and people can't remember when you wish upon a starts too hard Wish Upon a Star just called wish okay okay but their market research says that one word titles have the most lasting impact look at all these one-word titles okay well that's funny because there's that website wish where it's like cheap knockoff of popular brands so all these live-action remakes of Disney movies feel like the wish version of the animated movies uh but but oh oh okay moving on to paper number two paper number two so the first Guardians of the Galaxy came out 2014. yeah almost almost a decade ago uh and then the next one 17 same date five five Seventeen um and so I did a little research and because you wanted to watch this normally we skip Marvel movies now because these fall outside of the Marvel movies work on their own yeah yeah yes they are different and and more fun so we skipped a Spider-Man far from home which I eventually watched um uh Shang Chi and the legend of the ten Rings the eternals which I think that's like the least liked of all these yeah it kind of flopped uh wakanda forever but black panther 2 and then we didn't watch Ant-Man and the WASP Quantum Mania no um and do you have all the TV shows on there too I don't have the TV shows I don't go to that um but upcoming the Marvels Captain America New World Order Thunderbolts blade oh yeah that keeps getting pushed back they like did like a complete rewrite of it or something uh Deadpool three they brought back Hugh Jackman good Avengers the Kang Dynasty and Avengers Secret Wars uh can't you just feel the anticipation for the next Marvel Avengers film when I read this list I don't see movies I I see threats like uh uh like like I don't know um armor Wars and then a sequel to Shang Chi um I think that's in the far future but that's that's appears to be what's the upcoming Marvel slate um but yeah uh there's a little pickle with the Jonathan uh Jonathan major situation also because now the writer strike is going on so I don't think they can do any I guess I read that the King character was supposed to show up on Loki season two which has already been shot oh and if they want to recast Kang they can't now because of the writers strike so they can't reshoot anything so they're that's like what are they gonna do with that just hold off on it I don't think anybody knows Marvel's keeping their their mouth shut at the moment about the whole jot of the major situation I don't know Kang the Conqueror is the new iconic villain in the MCU yeah I don't know what you do there you panic you panic at a point where you can't rewrite or reshoot anything though don't they vet these people I mean I know the the one incident happened after the fact but yeah but now they've reached into his past and found all sorts of yeah it's like I I all I saw was like more allegations more women coming forward that he did bad things I don't know I really did I didn't read anything but uh that's pickle yeah no it's cool the biceps are low then they are they're a little fit I gotta say it doesn't quite pardon me didn't mean to hope that's a wealth and touch I didn't mean to consent is so important I'm so sorry about that yeah I'm gonna tell you something I'm Star-Lord today's film that we watched the Guardians of the Galaxy part three uh for me it was a big it was a big closer a great grand finale to the Marvel experience for me well I would say the last Avengers movie was that what no no no yeah yeah I get that are you saying like you're done with Marvel after this I because I this the only reason I had any interest is because it's the last Guardians not not done in a bad way like a great Final Act I I really like this movie I'm assuming you did too I I really liked it and um the ending was great it was heartwarming and it was like a big like all the cast comes out and bows on the stage and the curtain closes right like yes the Thanos story felt more like that but this felt more like of a happy ending or or just kind of like I can't see something topping this yeah that would interest me yes well that's yeah like I said the Guardians movies for me kind of operate outside of just being Marvel movies yeah so as a Trilogy which I know James Gunn always planned this as a Trilogy the the idea of it being the last one kind of feels tacked on a little bit at the end it feels most of the plot and I like the movie a lot but most of the plot feels more like a very expensive episode of the Guardians of the Galaxy TV show rocket is injured we have to save rocket it's very small which is fine because they're more character driven but then at the end it's like oh now we're wrapping up all these character story lines and a lot of them we're not really established much throughout the movie so it almost felt almost felt tacked on that kind of closure ending yeah I guess there's a lot of characters to develop even just with three films yeah well I think the first two movies do a better job of giving everybody something to do this one is almost exclusively rocket um which is fine I like rocket but uh and uh what's his face Peter Quill he's the protagonist of the first two movies they're all about him and his kind of emotional journey and he takes a back seat for most of this movie then at the end it's like oh it's about him again it's a little off I thought everybody had enough to do I was happy with it I I I got to see Rocket's little backstory and it was it was uh [ __ ] it was rough it was rough I yeah I I'm not I would say I'm like moderately sensitive to animal violence in movies I can watch people get torn apart all day at life hysterically but uh animal violence can get to me and this was bordering on too much like obviously it serves a purpose in the story and Rockets kind of emotional Journey but man they're laying it on thick with those cute little critters that you know where it's going I I think it would be too much for uh kids as an emotionally stable mostly stable adult uh you know I'm realizing these are fictional characters but yeah I was invested in them they were cute and it you know you know like I think part of the back of your mind knows that like this kind of stuff like animal testing and experimenting like actually goes on it's not it's not like blobs alien blobs in space it's like there's a there's a grounding to it in our reality right there's the cages and I kept thinking of that scene at you know when it was the end I kept thinking of that scene in peewee's big adventure I was thinking I was thinking of well first this is emotionally much different but it's very similar I was thinking of spoilers I guess first they free all the kids and I was thinking of Temple of Doom yeah and then they free all the animals yeah it's like a Peewee running out with the snakes but uh yeah the the rusty cages and the dirty it wasn't like a like a clean sci-fi room yeah like it had this grimy like disgusting like uh bad feeling to it and yeah I think that'll be rough for little kids but um I I liked it and you know there was that moment when rocket was like he was on the table and they're trying to bring him back to life and and it's like there's like Chris Pratt and he's like giving it all his emotionally he's screaming and and I'm like emotionally invested in the scene and then I'm like I take a step back and I'm like oh Chris Pratt is is like giving CPR to a raccoon well there's a tree man there and a lady with a green face honestly yeah and it's like it's like you if you could make that kind of ridiculous like situation emotional that that to me is kind of the magic of these movies and why I say they stand out from just being Marvel movies and I also think this one in particular one of the the issues with the previous ones is almost I think James Gunn kind of started this and all the other movies started the other Marvel movies kind of followed the formula of undercutting every kind of emotional beat with a joke I will hunt my father like a dog and I will tear him apart slowly of the profound and unceasing pain I know every single day yeah I was talking about like a pretty necklace like almost right after something emotional having someone well that happens yeah that's what Drax is there for foreign [Music] yeah and there's a few moments but there's a lot more in this one than the other two where he really lets the dramatic stuff just play out and it doesn't end in a joke which makes it more absurd that it's yeah weird slimy bug creatures and Rocket Raccoon and all this stuff but he he has enough confidence in the material to just let it play out as weird as it is yeah I would say this is my favorite of the three by far I thought the first one like I'm having trouble remembering it's been almost 10 years I think I just watched it that one time but there was a novelty to it with the with the mixtape and the music and the you know the wacky you know crew it's very different from Avengers they were just sort of like Misfits and so there was a freshness to it um it didn't really matter what the plot was that was a golden people right on the planet that's the start of the second one oh that's the second one I don't see I don't even remember I just remember like tonally it was fun and lighthearted and you know the action scenes are good and it's well directed and then the second one was Kurt Russell is like the god ego it's his dad and so there's an emotional connection yeah and that one I I just felt a little like like weighed down by and didn't quite enjoy that one as much and then this one knocked it out of the park I mean I really don't have many negatives saying goodbye it's time [Applause] my only real complaint is that it focuses so much on rocket that everybody else feels more like supporting characters as opposed to an ensemble and then the idea of it being a closer to the entire thing comes about at the very end but other than that the passing of the torch they pass the torch to Rocket as the new leader of the gardens of the Galaxy J that's I think that's just a little cute ending I don't I mean eventually give it a few years and Marvel's gonna be making another one of these but James Gunn is out so to me this feels like the conclusion of a Trilogy sure um but yeah somebody like the I just loved the inventiveness of some of the weird [ __ ] set pieces and planets that weird membrane yeah Planet they go to or the control panels or just piles of Nickelodeon Gak that you stick your hands in there's like a living space organism when Nathan Fillion was in a Michelin Man costume he was wearing like they look like the what is it the David Lynch's Dunes the herconians and yeah yeah that big fart man it looked like that yeah like there was a piss Fountain I don't know if you noticed that um like bone structure yeah like I was like the movies just like overwhelming with visual creativity and costumes and all those and then the alternate Earth with like uh forcibly uh evolved creatures that are like all kind of simpletons just like Earth except with these weird mutated animals yes and that and and the villain too was a good villain I didn't hear the word Revenge once no no he was a true uh villain that I disliked and wanted them to beat he goes out of his way to make it dislike him like oh that's all the animal abuse stuff yeah I mean I know that's that can be cheap but he you know I I like when Chris Pratt said something he's like I don't need to hear your whole monologue about how your mother never loved you it's like okay I don't need another speech by some impotent whack job whose mother didn't love him rationalizing why he needs to conquer the universe he's he's like a like a a megalomaniac or what is it called to give God complex or something like that uh yeah he was trying to like create it was very vicious and awful and I I just and and you know he did bad things to Rocket and we all love Rocket Raccoon yes yes so I mean not uh an overly complex villain in terms of his personality but his actions fine I'll take it take it over uh I'm I want revenge oh sure yeah and I do like that like I said this feels more like an episode of a TV show or something but I do like that they didn't feel the need to to go bigger with the final movie uh it's a more personal in terms of the basic story um you know the other ones are about both the first and second movie there's even a joke in the second movie about now we got to save the entire galaxy again here there's more of a personal connection with rocket to what the bad guy's doing and it's not about saving the entire universe so it's more character based story yeah I I understand that rock the plot was rocket heavy uh rocket Centric but uh I mean like you had the Drax you know overall call him stupid but them realizing that his his like thing is is he is it can be a good father or he was a good father you know and then like uh the the he's the only one that's not miserable yeah I'm glad Peter Quill I mean we're gonna say spoilers at the beginning of this but I'm glad Peter Quill didn't uh fall in love with or rather Gamora fall in love with Peter Quill because that would have been too it's all about like discovering who you are and where you belong and it's and ultimately it's about family that is the gist of it I look around at us you know what I see family it's true literally there is that scene speaking of the Gamora stuff because I think I mentioned this when we talked about maybe one of the Avengers movie movies because Gamora dies in that Thanos throws her off a cliff and uh so they bring her back from another timeline so she doesn't have the personal connection with all these characters and they deal with that in this movie but there's a scene on the living organism Planet when they're on the elevator and Peter Quill is like explaining all this and it seems like the most passive aggressive writing from James Gordon we used to be in love yeah she was my girlfriend only she doesn't remember it because it wasn't her because her dad threw off a magic cliff and she died and then I lost my temper and nearly destroyed half the universe and she came back out of the past there she is everyone else who died in the past stayed dead not her why was it the magic Cliff I don't know that's some freaking infinity stone scientist because he had all these movies planned out and then they throw that monkey wrench into it with the Avengers movies he's like how do I write around this like that whole scene I could just like smell the passive aggressiveness like oh they threw off a magic Cliff yeah or he's like like irritated that yeah that this is The Situation he's in well it made for a nice new dynamic between them though oh yeah no it ended a different character I like that it that's that wacky comic book stuff to it yeah and I wasn't sure if it was gonna work out but I I like where they left it where yeah like he said they didn't go the oh she falls in love with him and we're right back where we were she goes off on her own path and there's there is a spark between them but they don't they don't push that too much if if uh Peter Quill uh pushed it too hard and she unwillingly sort of semi-agreed to be his new love interest Chris Pratt would never hear the end of it that's the plot of that one for passengers yeah so I'm glad he's like he's like oh you know you are who you are you're a different person you know and then she goes back and she has a happy reunion with all of her nasty pirate friends that's where she belongs you know and uh uh Nova a nebula I can bought a color Nova nebula uh uh decides to live on the colony inside the godhead to to raise a community because she never had a family Thanos was was a dick to her and all that and I I just I don't know yes it was rocket Centric but Peter Quill going back to his home and I'm done with this adventure the framework of uh you know your villain backstory with rocket uh the characters arcing properly at the little Mission and all the all the stuff there was was a beautiful template to put in some of the weirdest [ __ ] things I've ever seen into a movie it's not just like I I don't know like I I do I think I know why you like these movies they're very different than the normal like Marvel fighting movies yeah like well yeah it's just like the strength of me is is the characters more than anything well that's what I like is just how you know I mean that's James Gunn's whole career even when he's working for troma was taking this ugly characters messed up characters Misfits and making you care about them and having a bit of humor uh tongue-in-cheek it's it's not you're not supposed to take it completely seriously but but then throwing everybody in these wacky ass uh universes costumes characters and putting a lot of thought into all those things like we talked about the the living membrane Planet like I think of all the like the the side villains and every other like the first Avengers movie it's just like Mindless robots or something that's what I mean all that generic stuff here like everything kind of matters yeah all the little side details that are thought out the main villain and uh uh oh his name was what the overseer or something like that I can't remember his name I mean he was very memorable yeah um but I like that actor he was on the uh Peacemaker show too that James Gunn did he's the the head of their organization is that James Gunn's wife is the lady with the talking speaker ball okay she was on the which is kind of funny because he was previous she's sort of like the receptionist in this and his previous wife was uh Jenna Fisher yeah receptionist from the office oh well that's a tenuous uh vague okay she played a receptionist in his movie Slither too so okay okay so he's got a thing for receiving he's gonna think for receptionists and castied his wife I saw some people complaining about that like oh I cast his wife and everything he's like on the day at Maggie Gyllenhaal next it means secretary to the Marvel the big budget Marvel reboot of secretary yeah I rented this film about the famous racing horse and I put it on and it was a porno Grandpa you meant to run Secretariat and you rent secretary I watched the whole thing and I kept waiting for the racetrack Grandpa wrong movie Dear Mr Garvey I am grateful to you [Music] hello you're right anyways uh yeah uh it's hard to my brain can't process all the things that happened in this film but but it never feels overwhelming like some of these movies do you're like all right we're at the third act now we have all these there was just if I were to come up with the critique if I were to have a little hiccup it was just like maybe like a five minute little chunk I think it's when when they were going on trying to fly there's three spaceships to get on board the bigger ship oh yeah it's like rockets in one ship and then then it became like a little visual overload and I'm like uh you know just jump on it or you know do something like I I that was a little a little too much but then I have to fight a giant mutant warthog and you're like all right yeah it was like a checkout mode like the checkout mode was almost like the knob was turning I almost had that it was like the Man of Steel knob yeah when it just like that knob just turned on like right after the credit started on when they're trying to leave and then the Adam Warlock character yeah op comes through the door it's like now we gotta have a [ __ ] fight scene but they just then he just collapses I'm sorry James Gunn knows what he's doing who was that actor I've seen him in so many things he his name is Will Poulter um isn't that weird We're the Millers movie Jason Sudeikis I've seen him in so many things he was originally cast as it as Pennywise in the it movies back when it was Carrie fukunaga but I confuse him with the other guy who was in the Santa Clarita diet you know they look similar uh and I kept thinking it was that kid and we're like no it's not that I've seen that guy before but um yeah that he was a fun character too uh you know because he's a dumb bad guy he finds his place he finds his true family at the end yeah it's heartwarming uh heartbreaking uh action-packed uh creative and then of course you have to expect that it's going to be witty and funny as it was what push it down I am pushing down on it push the button it looks like you're pushing the keyhole the what there's a button under the handle press that in less so and this isn't a negative thing but lesser than the other two it was relying Less on humor than I think the other two were sure there have those moments of kind of fun banter between the characters but like I said they didn't undercut every [ __ ] uh dramatic beat with a joke right right um and I appreciate that I've noticed that with James Gunn like throughout his career he's one of the filmmakers working at this level where you can see like a growth from movie to movie more of a confidence in not just the writing but also the filmmaking like I re-watched his Suicide Squad movie recently because I hadn't seen it since we did it for the show and just his Direction I mean there's that whole in this movie there's that whole hallway fight at the end and we're whipping around and you never get like disoriented as far as what's happening we're just getting little glimpses of what everybody is doing in that fight plays out perfectly yeah the one take yeah that's a little gimmicky now though the fake one take shot or even though it's all stitched together with CG but it's it's well executed in terms of what shots it lands on what it goes to next well it's like it's like that's the last fight that the Guardians of the Galaxy are gonna do as a team you know yeah they have something big Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 really PG-13 was the dog in the other movies that the dog was introduced in the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special that James Gunn did Cosmo what use is telekinesis if you can't even aim you want to do it do it okay that that's special it's like an hour long it's mainly focused on Drex and uh mantis Peter Quill is sad they're on that nowhere planet that there's that this movie starts and ends on and uh he sat around Christmas because gamora's gone so they decide to cheer him up by going to Earth and kidnapping his favorite actor Kevin Bacon so you get a little it's a Kevin Bacon Cameo and was this on Disney it was a Disney plus thing yeah it's cute it's like an hour long maybe a little less but I've never heard of it but that establishes uh yeah that they live on that planet it also establishes that mantis and Peter Quill are related which they mentioned once or twice in this that their brother and sister but it never really amounts to anything it doesn't really matter Russell um I'm trying to remember I don't it's set up in that special but I don't remember how mantis he worked for Kurt Russell on the yeah yeah like she did something so they had some sort of connecting DNA or something I'd have to re-watch that special I don't remember but they established it and that they mentioned it once or twice in here but it doesn't really matter yeah sort of one of those I even bother introducing it kind of thing assuming the cosmo dog is a character in the comic books that dog actually is in the first movie briefly just as like a background joke almost okay and then they decided to flesh it out into a full character voiced by borat's daughter she did that voice and then they had the whole poker game with all your cameos what's his face was there the old lecherous old man was like coughing in this yeah I completely missed him yeah with Howard the doc and yeah maybe it was too distracted by Howard the dog I didn't even know it's like Kaufman was there oh mostly sure I I'm pretty sure I saw him yeah I mean it's quick scene you know the camera's moving around fast and going around but and Seth Green voiced Howard the dacus on the credits hey he was in the first movie too I think he is in like a postcard scene of the second movie but yeah yeah there was other he keeps showing up here and there but they're never going to make they're never going to get away from that dower the duck uh uh curse are they I think it's just a if anyone I joke at this point sure but if anyone could make it Howard the Duck movie it would be James Gunn like he's willing to go for it would just absurd visuals and take it seriously so he could pull it off if he if he ever comes back to Marvel but I don't think he's gonna have time anymore but make a Howard the Duck movie hey everybody I'm James Gunn I'm the co-ceo of DC Studios that's a he's so James Gunn is now in charge of the DC Universe yeah kind of disappointing I mean it's obviously a great opportunity for him but as someone that likes his work uh I'm not interested in another Superman movie really or yeah he did a video when he first uh presented everything that's going to be coming out it was like a Twitter video he's like we're doing Blue Beetle and then we're following it up with this and that and I was like I don't know what any of these things are this is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan and we have a few other lanterns peppered in there but this is really a terrestrial based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops which I guess could be a good thing I mean that was kind of the fun of his Suicide Squad movie it was all these superhero characters I've never heard of that had bizarre Powers Yeah Yeah polka dot bad um so I don't know I I just I'm done with superhero movies aside from this one really in general so it's like oh yeah great opportunity James Gunn but it's just a shame you're not going to be focusing on the type of stuff I would be interested in that's what I was saying this kind of for me this felt like the closer yeah like I I can't imagine something topping this maybe that's just me maybe it's just me like being old older you know kind of phasing out of this sort of like entertainment too as a grown-up you know like I couldn't I couldn't be one of those people that just cheer for the next like I like these movies I like comic books and superheroes and stuff but I've uh it's been a decade floss now and it's just like time time to move on like the characters in The Guardians of the Galaxy is a very fitting ending because if they always go go and they all grow up yes they all decide that other things are more important it's like no I've seen enough I'm really happy with what I've seen the Marvel movies for the most part have been pretty consistent James Gunn he should run like a like a specialty label in the DC Universe where he focuses on weird characters like Blue Beetle and polka dot man and makes movies about that because I can't imagine James Gunn like writing and directing like a Batman movie well he's writing and directing the Superman movie okay next up is the big one the true beginning of the DCU this is called Superman Legacy this is being written by me I'm in the middle of it I'm having a great time doing it and Superman will be released into theaters July 11th 2025. uh he has such a unique and bizarre sensibility and that just seems very antithetical to Superman Yeah just they just it seems clashy maybe it'll work maybe I don't know just have to wait and find out but I mean wasn't that wild they played the trailer for The Flash movie before this and we're seeing he's entering other universes or whatever other timelines and we're seeing Michael Shannon from the Man of Steel movie it's like wow we're still stuck here this is insane it's over now that James God has taken over they're wiping the cycling but they have all this like like residual [ __ ] stuck to the bottom of their shoe Aquaman and the Flash and Michael Shannon in the end of the Man of Steel movie in 2023 we're still seeing this it's so bizarre you want to get nuts let's get nuts I would love to take a bunch of like super super old people like in their 90s and play this movie to them and just film their reactions somebody should do this it'd be like a great viral video are they still learn to do those movies where those guys something something Brothers they make the people oh the Fine Brothers I think they were canceled teenagers try to use a rotary dial phone yeah 97 million views like old people try to use Tinder you ever see those videos oh yeah I never watched one they were yeah well you know those thumbnails though yeah you always saw those thumbnails yeah but uh yeah no I think that's I think that's long gone Zoomers try to use a typewriter elderly watched Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3. just the animal abuse scenes the big rectum in space [Laughter] that Chris Pratt and friends have to cut a hole in and slime through [Laughter] that that whole all that set design and all those costumes and I was all just great all just great and I kept thinking with the villa and I was like he looks like RoboCop yeah yes and they commented on it yes loved it which works because Peter Quill's only frame of Pop Culture references from when he was a kid on earth so [Applause] great times and even a very good theater going experience nice and quiet yeah with the exception of the screen and I was an outrage or it wasn't uh centered properly or something no Jay you know these things well the film shape was is was scope yeah widescreen yes not letterbox not 16x9 so our actual physical screen was scope sized projected was a 16x9 image with the scope inside it yeah and so we had it's like a box inside of a box box inside of a box inside of a box yeah where it wasn't like whatever button they hit on their computer upstairs that makes it fit to the screen was incorrect I'm going to even pull make a fake movie theater oh my God and have the different black tones that were all wrong in the lines well that's what makes it stand out even more is yeah all the different grayscale backgrounds and it's like fill the whole screen please I paid six dollars for this show but uh well at least we only have to go to the movie theater one more time in our entire lives for Indiana Jones but what about oh no but uh I'm going to take a guess and say that you recommend I would yeah absolutely I wholeheartedly 100 percent recommend Guardians of the Galaxy and see it in the movie theater but if your picture aspect ratio is completely [ __ ] wrong get up and tell the manager yeah or get walk out and so I'm gonna wait to watch this on a better go to a better movie screen or movie theater or whatever they call it or just wait two weeks and watch it on Disney Plus in your nice home but yeah I uh I loved it I thought it was a lot of fun uh creative uh really interesting set pieces endlessly creative visuals and costumes and oh gosh wow uh I would watch it again it's like the end of Star Trek Picard season three big closer oh they're gonna make more Star Trek but you can be satisfied with this yeah yeah and uh this the sending everyone's dancing everyone's happy there was no tease for the next big bad guy not in this one I think that's what all the other ones are trying to set up they ripped his face off and then said you ripped his face off that's a Drax said his face came off yeah he had a little piece of his rubber skin coming off yes I flopping around I thought that was a mistake and I'm like oh and then she just like peels his face off because why not um so yeah again that's pretty horrific too yeah so the way his racket scratched his face off that's the second movie I've watched this week where someone's face gets ripped off I watched uh speaking of avoiding things in the movie theater I watched that Renfield movie and they just straight up rip a guy's face off and it looks like a like a trauma movie it's not bad it's this cartoonish it's fun it's funny okay so it's not as horrific as in this movie would you recommend Renfield uh kind of it was enjoyable okay it feels like a 90s movie and in good and bad ways because the main plot is like oh the plot is runfield is in like a codependent relationship with Dracula and he's going to group meetings about codependency he's like that's clever but then the main thrust of the plot is involves the mob and I was like is this a 90s movie Dracula in the mob so that's a little corny but it's entertaining it's pretty fun I watched Scream Six there was a Scream movie was it a mystery on who the killer was and then in the third act they reveal who the Killer is and they talk a lot and then they run around despite the like the tired formula it was entertaining yeah well you haven't seen all the other ones right I haven't seen all the other ones but I I think with that franchise needs is to if it's going to keep going because they're all fine but get away from the whodunit get away from the mystery of the killer because every one of those movies has the exact same formula and structure yeah that's the thing shake it up a little bit get away from that with the next time what what what's the expression Jay you don't get off a winning horse uh so you know that's true I think this stream was like the biggest box office since the originals so and it's you know not expensive to make there's a guy in a mess stabbing people and then filming a house and running around and uh yeah it's not it's no Guardians of the Galaxy part three in terms of uh [ __ ] effects yeah so yeah they're making money keep on doing it it's a lot of diminishing returns Jan okay keep making screen movies until they stop making you money and don't change what the formula Coke hasn't changed their formula since 1868. I think with sequels though you got you reach a point you gotta shake it up a little bit Colonel Sanderson is 11 herbs and spices that's food though that's not art listen this conversation has gone off the rails I have Sun craving for Kentucky Fried Chicken and nobody needs that so with a nice can of Coke so I'm gonna go get that okay let me call doordash all right doordash's number still 9-1-1 yeah yes yes oh it's an emergency I need some KFC and a nice cold Coca-Cola no I'm not having a heart attack that's after the KFC jokes skip joke [Laughter] [Music] I have to go now [Music] all right [Music] [Music] foreign thank you [Applause] [Music] are you still there yeah a side of mashed potatoes too thank you
