hello darlings i am thrilled to show you the process of how my baby reishi mushrooms grew up and how i consumed them it's really like an arm and this is the joint there we go looks like antlers growing mushrooms at home episode two there are other incredible edible fungi i've been growing but today it's all about the reishi i've also heard it pronounced as rishi known as the mushroom of immortality it said that the reishi improves the immune system reduces fatigue and so forth it's been used in traditional asian medicine for over 2 000 years now some sources say over 4 000 years the texture is tough and the flavor is bitter so it's not something you'd put on your pizza i ordered my reishi grow kit from a local mushroom farm called root mushroom i started growing reishi days before christmas and that's where we shall begin starting from day one to prep the grow kit cut the top off then cover the substrate log with a humidity tent keep the log temperature between 65 to 80 degrees fahrenheit i placed the substrate log on a dish and put it away from direct sunlight in the beginning i thought my kit would grow ganoderma lingchi but later i reviewed the website turns out the strain used for this grow kit is the antler reishi the scientific name being ganoderma multipelium multipolium multi-pile i tried in two weeks there is visible progress little white bumps have grown what i've been doing is i take the tent i spray it a couple times i rotate it let it sit so the mist settles inside and then i put it over the ratio in the next seven days groovy golden gradients appear the caps grow thick as my finger and this one is wider than my thumb smaller caps are chillaxing at the base hi it smells mushroomy now reishi it says grows slowly by nature and it usually needs about two months to finish the growth so we still got a solid 60-23 37 days left for it to be two months this guy popped through the bag so i was thinking these guys will pop out as well this one it doesn't look so good um this one too it's browning on the end and here too i'm a little worried about those i'm wondering should i make a little slit so the mushrooms can you know pop out should i help them am i being helpful by doing that if i'm not careful i might actually cut into the mushroom we don't want that now we don't want water forming on the surface so we need to remove these drops i see a lot of condensation drops around the whole circumference but the especially watery part i'm going to soak it up with a q-tip have you ever consumed a reishi mushroom before you can use them to make tea or for soups it is january 25th so dear christmas tree happy second month anniversary check out the rishi look at how tall they've grown so how many inches it's about three and a half inches tall their gradient is so beautiful it goes from dark brown to like a brown orange and then yellowish and then white for most of its growth i had this substrate bag facing this way and these guys were growing outwards away from the wall while this one was going straight i'm going to do a little experiment and rotate them about 180 degrees i'm curious are they going to keep growing straight towards the wall or are they going to grow away from the wall and go upwards within the following week a cap divides into two now this one kind of looks like a crab claws it's going like this now the body of it is dryish kind of feels like i'm touching printer paper with some bumps but the tips they're slightly moist nine days later one of the fingers are almost fully closed up it has a little fingernail at the top and look at this guy it looks like a hand so high five gentle high five good job for growing shall we do my handshake nice to meet you oh it's so cute it is day 65. remember i rotated this 180 degrees to see what would happen guess what happened those two arms are making a u-turn so if you look on the top you know they're curving towards the brighter part of the room in the beginning the third arm was going straight up but look what happened it started to make a detour as well pointing towards the light the shape is a little bit like ginger it might look like we only have three arms but you know what there's one right here circling around the bottom nearly 50 days later it is day 99 of this mushroom journey these guys made a u-turn they curved the other side they were going this way outwards but then they curved towards the light currently the tent is on it and it's gotten quite tight see this one's a little bit squished let's gently take it off there are some fingers i'm just going to call them fingers because i don't know the more scientific term for it but these ones closed up oh sorry wow look at this this is the longest finger of them all these tips these white tips still feel a bit moist it looks so awesome look at that how cool is this it looks like it's doing a dab the reishi mushroom is feeling cramped uh you know it's getting a little claustrophobic in there because it's touching the tent from one side to the other so let's take you from the bachelor unit to a two-bedroom apartment oh yeah he's much happier now as for this tent i'll reuse it for another mushroom i don't know what mushroom yet so for now i'll just keep it in here and we'll put a roof over its head i'm not gonna fully lock it we want to keep it a little moist but we want some evaporation it's been 147 days since we began the reishi mushroom this is the first end that closed up the second one closed up here and here's a third one that's uh pretty much closed up the last tip is still white and a bit moist and look over here it looks super scrunchy though remember some tips were curving along the top of the surface so here's one it's curving around in a circle and boom it ends right here but another tip is almost kissing it so you see those two white tips i'm gonna gently rip the outer skin to reveal those caps oh it doesn't come off easily it's like a stubborn piece of beef jerky i might have waited a bit too long to pull this out because uh it's been a while since this cap lost its white part i was waiting for all the white caps to turn brown before harvesting and i think that might have not been the best idea i'm gonna go ahead and pluck all of them oh this one came out easily [Music] it's really like an arm and this is the joint there we go came off looks like antlers we're gonna make tea so let's cut these guys up i'm gonna use my coconut knife oh it got hard it's recommended that soon after you harvest within like 24 hours that you cut these up because if you wait too long it could get very hard hard enough to break a coffee grinder from what i've seen on the internet i just harvested these but let's use another knife nope ah yay i cut it oh yeah the middle looks quite dry alright so it is slicing up this reishi looks a bit like wood and i'm cutting it as if it is wood got to be careful so i don't slice my finger there's got to be an easier way than this this is an adventure it's my first time doing this maybe i need to use scissors oh that's easier nice okay that now it's hard oh i got a stiff part now that all the slices are in i shall boil them for 30 minutes in the beginning the pieces were floating around at the top but now a lot of them have sunk it's been 30 minutes so let's give it a sip [Music] oh it's so bitter so bitter but the background taste is nice background taste is a little bit umami or maybe it's just in my head here's a plan we're gonna dilute the bitterness by adding some more water let's also add some tashima and a couple more slices to put the temperature up so it's we get it to boiling again cocoa amino sauce and some salt i'm gonna add in some ground ginger let's boil it for another 30 minutes and see how the flavor alters okay it's been about another 30 minutes better but still very bitter better because there's more flavors i definitely could feel that seaweed the tashima but the bitterness it has not died down the bitterness like no matter what i put in there it has not been masked what if i add some sesame oil this bottle contains sesame oil tastes delicious but still bitter with each preceding sip the bitterness is becoming more bearable i won't be finishing this tea all tonight i'm going to be saving this tea and divide it out for the next couple days probably drink it within 2-3 days i'm not a reishi tea nor a reishi expert i'm just trying this out for the first time and i'm glad i did trying new things even if i'm not traveling the world i'm like traveling in my house through my taste buds i'm gonna let this cool down transfer it into another container then put it in the fridge as for the substrate log i break it apart and put the pieces into the compost bucket so you might be wondering what happened to your other mushrooms originally i was going to show you all my fungi in one video as a sequel to my previous mushroom video so the sequel turned out to be about an hour long with too much back and forthing between my many grow kids so i've divided the long sequel into three to four videos maybe even five i haven't edited all those yet this video was all about the reishi the next video will be about cordyceps militarists or maybe the extended family of oyster mushrooms and by the way i'm also growing blue turkey tails stay tuned for more fun guys bye-bye remember to subscribe and hit that notification bell for food and travel in korea check out my other channel sweet and tasty tv toodles my noodles when i move the plastic up the mushroom kinda wiggles like a loose tooth if that pops off i'm gonna have to call the mushroom fairy earlier today when i was at the market i was thirsty so i grabbed the drink there was one with reishi in it i did try this company a couple times um it's plant-based vegan dairy free no this is not a sponsored video i'm just showing you that they do use the reishi mushroom in drinks that they sell at markets they call it the divine mushroom of immortality wow makes it sound very mystical its earthy flavors blend so effortlessly with dark cocoa and vanilla your taste buds
