whoa it's woolsey i'm on my all account dan's woman again welcome back to the co-op building series level swap today i've got lake with me say hi lake hi luke this is level swap lake and i are both going to start brand new levels but every 20 minutes we must pass our levels over to each other until we've had three turns building on each level which is six total time slots can i not mess up the intro with someone the end goal is to make a functional part of a level in our building time we're both going to split up and record individually so make sure you watch the other side if you want to see that perspective too and uh yeah is there anything you'd like to say before we start i'm like playing with my timer and bouncing around to the song of my menu loop oh your timing as well okay normally i just time and then oh i have it for myself so i can know how much time i have left yeah sometimes i cheat and i'd like 20 seconds on yeah see i'm here to hold you accountable three two one good luck thank you oh i totally just hit play instead of edit for this episode of level swap i'm going to be using ocean current by nam ice on a 28 second start off set sounds pretty neat to me i think it's going to work well with modern style if lake chooses to build in that style as always you know i always rock with the teleporter at the beginning i saw something on twitter the other day about how someone was saying that robot gameplay is only good if you use the specific jumps that it has like the big massive ones like these for this gameplay i'm trying to reuse blue pads and green orbs so you get a really similar flow all the way through then as you transition into the cube i'm messing with the patterns of the green orbs and how quickly you have to hit them after jumping off a platform say like right here there's a pretty interesting one here with the blue pad like that i think that's nice gameplay i realized that this kind of platform is kind of wonky so i'm just going to delete that left block move everything down by one so you can just hold straight off this blue pad and then make it all the way to the speed changer right there and i'm gonna nod to something that lake always does with their levels a triple spike at the very end now we do the visibility test where we make sure that all of the gameplay is visible on screen there's no blind jumps they have to do it seems to be pretty alright so far although it goes up and down quite a lot it's all on screen i want to mess with some invisible slabs half space them into place scale them up and copy paste them four or five times on top of themselves which really stacks that effect and now if i extend that structure down and go into normal mode you'll see how bright it gets on the left hand side i really like that i'm going to add a few more structures here so what i've done doesn't really hog the limelight and i can still allow lake to do some of their own thing i'm gonna get creative with some scaling right here i don't know that looks cool doesn't it like i've started saying to myself over and over to make me feel better when i get carried the whole point of this series is to provoke ideas with people and get them to experiment a little bit more because the result is nearly always a bunch of uncoordinated ideas just meshed into one level also i just want to preface this video by saying that i fully expect to get carried by lake here because a they're extremely fast b they're extremely talented i didn't mean to structure it like that i just kind of like dragged my mouse down and wobbled a little bit but i'm gonna keep it it's funny by the way just an open letter to lake when she watches this on the premiere i deliberately put these objects off-grid there's no reason that they have to be off-grid i just want to slow you down in your editing process watch as this amazingly backfires and i'm the one that has to do the design for them in my completely biased opinion this is done this is what i'm going to be giving to lake for her layout i think it's decent i like the repetition of the green orbs i like the invisible block thing i hope she clocks that and turns that into something i don't know i should probably make it a bit more obvious so that that actually happens that do be time though it is time we um we recorded this once before and the service went down in the middle and we literally didn't continue it for another month and stuff changed so we decided to just make a completely new video sonic whoa yeah what's up you put pull it guys you know i hate that level i beat it let's go okay i see what you're going for you're trying to make me do a nine circle thing yeah yours is pretty fun i like how you put the triple at the end like i want to see what you would do which is why i'm giving you the opportunity here right now okay now i'm really scared because i'm gonna get exposed not knowing how to make a nine circles level not knowing how to use slopes i don't know how to decorate slopes good luck three two one go i'm gonna have to mask because i don't know how to decorate slopes properly that's the reason i never use slopes and there's half space stuff okay that's came back to bite me in the butt hasn't it there's no reason that they have to be off grid i just want to slow you down in your editing process so what i'm doing right now is i'm covering this space in between the objects oh my god how am i gonna make the entrances clear oh my god lake well this is only gonna take up like 10 minutes of my 20 minute building slot hopefully you guys like the level so far i'm going to call it 11th circle actually wait no there's already a name allocated to this level which is sonic wow which is just oh my god there's so many half blocks what am i dealing with so here we are five minutes into the building session and we're still just putting in white blocks and that's not even the end of it because on the next editor layer i need to make i need to make spaces with low opacity blocks that show where you can and can't go really so that's a window that's a window okay so we add these to a new group which is half opacity make sure that every single block is on the same layer which is gonna be b1 and minus seven let's add our half opacity right now okay we're getting somewhere thank goodness so with link controls on we select all of these objects right here bomb link them together but don't fade don't enter especially just so there's no ugly transitions at the side especially where there's areas where i can't like efficiently put in these blocks you can see there's an overlap right there added to layer 3 is where the effect comes in i have no idea what the effect is though and i've i have 12 minutes oh my god this has massive lame potential but i just gotta do it because i can't think of anything else black blending we're adding some like weird ground spike deco right here it's gonna be copied moved up and then given a new group every time it's gonna pulse all the way up okay three is gonna be the moving group four is the unique group and then when i copy paste it four is gonna get changed to five etc etc i can't click today so we have one strip that covers half a block for the other half i'm gonna move them one half block to the side flip them and then use the mini steps like this just to guide them into place boom moving group right here group three lock to x-axis forever we're gonna set the background color to black and we're gonna get our linked objects right here on the mask no wrong tab we're gonna give these a new color channel which copies the color of the background ie black but if we want the background to pulse these objects will do as well since they're linked to the same thing boom pulse trigger number one group four what color are you gonna choose i gotta i guess i gotta choose orange i gotta assert dominance on lake for just completely screwing me in this video let me see how this looks it's not fast enough okay group parent the left object select all the pulse triggers link them and then scale them on that point there we go so that's gonna be a bit faster hopefully it's a bit more climactic yeah and then i shall decrease the fade time i think so i can use it more and of course lakes put speed changes which makes making effects so much harder because you have to actually move the triggers in sync with what's going on instead of just copy paste them all the time like i normally would so i'm no clipping this in normal mode just to see how it looks and it looks kind of lame i can't lie but i guess we got to commit to it we got to make something else on top that's going to at least make it look a little bit better i've got six strips of glow here that i'm gonna stack on top of each other now there's about 22 of these triggers so how does six fit into that uh i don't know honestly i guess i'm just gonna use every third group or something it's beyond me this is 21 so i guess we could just make a strip on the very end of here that covers the whole screen that's on 24 i don't know stack these on top of each other this is going to be too bright i already know i think this is going to need some of that half opacity that i added earlier because all of the orange just stacks okay i think that's time it's time up [Music] oh i actually kind of did it okay i did basically nothing i'm sorry okay i can rock with this i think i know what i need to be doing here i know good luck good luck so color changes are what comes first in my opinion spawn loop you clever clever human being i can never figure out those background fade in point zero five fade out point seven five why not we're gonna change the color of the background by minus point two yeah that works so there's two sounds in the song that i wanna contradict with a dark pulse and then a bright pulse like that we can complement that with an object pulse to black and then an object pulls to a light blue and for this one since it's in between two segments i'm going to increase the brightness by another 0.2 on each trigger oh wait uh you can stay as you are i guess also the background can pulse longer then to kick off the second half i'm going to change the object to pulse yellow i don't know why it's just gonna be funny that's such a weird pulse what if i just make the background even darker to really emphasize that this should be smooth i like the way it's looking the darkening pulses are much nicer in my opinion because it brings a lot of contrast to the little wiggly things that lake added also the invisible things look really nice so we have a black object on b3 for our base then we're using one of these weird uh technological looking blocks right here on the layer above that has the background color in the back and then the object color in the foreground so you can see that it kind of like changes to the music right there without me having to actually do anything and i found a way to use these invisible objects to my advantage if i copy the color of the object stack them on top of this object on b1 as you can see there's 10 of them i'm gonna play this in normal mode you'll see how bright it gets i think it looks really cool as a nice block design right there so lake has five movement layers right here how much do they move only minus two on the x-axis so i really could have a diamond like right here i don't know why i used that object to half space it just happened to be that i can probably just scale down this invisible diamond and make that stacking effect while kind of making a nice shape out of it i don't know i forgot to give them the oh my i forgot to give them the numbers are you kidding so just to explain what i'm doing i am selecting these slopes inwards and like the pattern right here and adding a group to them that lake used for the movement of the blocks earlier so i'm reusing what lake has already made to make it different i don't know design i guess this isn't really designed but it is what it is i guess i'll just add a glow piece in the middle i don't know this needs to be blending for sure let's just put background blending for color channel 4 why not then i guess above everything there should be like a small white piece of glow on t2 like that yeah okay that's nice and shiny it looks way better in game look at that we are so good at this game guys okay so we just need to add like something to build that in i guess or i could just scatter it around i don't know i have one minute left so it's gonna spam this diamond round everywhere okay i really like how this one has started so far i think i've made decent progress with the colors and especially those invisible diamond things i think they're really cool if we use a lot more glow this has potential honestly that is time mm-hmm ooh i'm not sure what that visual bug is bala you figured that out i didn't change the outline so you didn't do that yes i was panicking the whole time because i was like i have no idea how i'm gonna make it clear which way to go and i like that you changed the colors good yeah that's my stuff i don't really know what i'm doing with it because it's your effect i have no clue what you did with it but i looked at the group ids i mess with it for a second and i bet you roasted me for not using spawn triggers good luck so i'm moving the mask away from a color that copies the background i'm just gonna press next fray as to not cause any issues i'm just going to set that to black we're going to give that a new group 28 now you'll have seen right there there's a background flash that goes to orange now that was going to make the mask flash as well but now i've just taken off that color we need to add another pulse trigger for that to happen what i want to do is make the background and the mask individually pulse and then have them unify on the beat of the song right here to make a nice orange flash they could probably go brighter honestly so let me play you in slow motion then i'll explain what i've done really you can see that individually changing colors right there then there's the unified pulse down here so up here i've added a trigger that just changes them individually you can see 28 then later the background they're both on point five and point fade times going to the same orange i've done this before but i think it's different in this context because obviously it's bright on bright instead of bright and dark but there's different scales of glow inside these saws right now that's basically what's happening just using the same groups as we used for the background you can see it happening when i'm scrolling through right before i run out of time i'm just going to say that i've put a massive black gradient that goes underneath the whole thing so part of the screen will remain black even if the background pulse is orange like this it's just gonna make it a bit more solid like that as you can see already it is indeed it is indeed i've done like nothing i swear that part of the video will be like one minute long i'm getting worse and worse in these level swaps it feels i think i might have just beaten the level i don't know imagine how funny it would be if we just had like we finished bubble swap and we completely ignored the first like two seconds of gameplay one of the levels sonic woe more like sonic no this all sucks i'm excited to see neville lake at five come on c745 yay more block design this one's actually nice i finally have something good to work on let's go i'm gonna be doing my classic shading method in this level using big strips like this on a low opacity which is 11 for this level okay so we add 11 to about 0.2 opacity like that i just want to add like looming shafts like this and we're going to spice it up by selecting portions of it and like flipping it and stuff so it's not just the same all the time so it looks kind of odd at the moment but i think once i add the blending screen on top it's gonna mesh the colors together a lot more because obviously black is a weird choice considering most of the level is blue i think once it's tinted to another color it's going to look a lot better i'm also going to add these to a group just in case i want to make them pulse and kind of salvage them i wouldn't do this in a normal level if it didn't work i would just suck it off but since it's level swap i need to make sure it somehow works i don't know i don't want to waste time because that last that last slot was painful i added like five things commentated it all deleted it all like oh my god so instead of having a light pulse and a dark pulse i've just posted to the background every time so it kind of slinks in already now i want to add the blending screen on top and kind of mix all this together tint all the dark colors to the light blue it's going to look a lot nicer to kind of mix it up in our blending screen i'm going to add a big gradient like this that makes it lighter towards the bottom so all of this is going to go to one group it's going to be on t3 don't fade don't enter actually in fact i should give it another unique group 14 just in case i want to make something on the moving group that isn't going to pulse because if i add both the pulses and the movement on 13 anything that i wanted to move in the background would end up pulsing so and i can just copy the 12 pulses right there i've made it very easy for myself move it up change it to group 14 and then make it kind of dark blue since it's blending and i don't want it to be too opaque i need to make sure it's not like ridiculously bright why can't i see it because i didn't click groups there we go now i can see it and now i want to change the hue on it to make it a bit more yeah that's the kind of shade i use in like every single level nowadays but you know it is what it is i'm also gonna move 14 upwards since the level just naturally goes up in its gameplay i need to make sure this moves upwards so you can see the difference at the gradient at the bottom obviously so that's going to move up 10 blocks in 10 seconds easing out so it's going to slowly make its way up also i want that to be brighter on like the big climactic pulse boom let's see how this goes we'll see this level blows i know that was sick okay i'm not gonna lie lick just get the absolute bahuki out of me but i've made a sick pulse right there that was awesome i wish i could do that more often but the way that i've mapped out the pulses elsewhere in the level doesn't really allow me to do that i'm gonna abuse the fact that i made one cool thing with the invisible object and i'm just gonna use it for any object that's still there like you can see right here i've just put a very clear base block and then like 10 million copies of that square and then a low opacity glow piece on top right there i think you already know what i'm going to do with the spikes in this level but just in case you don't i'm setting both base and detail to copy the color of the background similarly to these blocks over here and similarly to those blocks over there we're gonna add like a billion invisible spikes on top of them that use color channel one which is white i think that's time not gonna lie didn't do much but i'll be honest i think sonic was basically done what oh my god okay this looks like some guy trying to make their first feature they like sonic 9 circle level so they're trying to make their own and they're just trash at building no one will look at us and think that either of us have ever got a feature level in our life oh my god okay you made the intro oh what are we gonna do best of luck so my theory is if i make this dark enough you won't be able to see the flaws so great i've made some darkness on the sides in eight minutes what else am i gonna do you know what you know what i'm just gonna put a massive black screen that just keeps on flashing over and over again just to cover up how ugly this level is okay i've got this figured out so it starts off on zero opacity then as you ease into the beginning it goes to full and then it releases and then every single flash there'll be a black screen like that it's lazy i know but i just can't figure out what else i'm supposed to do with this i can't lie this is probably the worst level on any level swap so far in terms of looks and enjoyment building on select all give it a new group 46 okay starts off on zero opacity fades up to full like that i don't know how that's going to work with all the details there it looks fine honestly i was worried about how some of the details would uh overlap but it seems to be pretty nice so it just fades in every time it looks like it comes from the darkness you can see the orbs every time because of how they're laid above the black screen i guess i should do something about the way you can see everything there okay watch this this is going to be super easy three is full opacity here no opacity anywhere else i can probably use these shiny blocks in an interesting way by like flipping them spacing them together scaling them down you know like the technologic style right there and then just spacing that in the middle all neat hi lake never lake it this is the final version this is the one that's getting put in the goddamn folder ladies and gentlemen never like it let's see oh i like the circles and the arrows and things okay this is this is pretty i like this nice with no not nice it says oh whoa woolsey giant dude throughout the entire level just to fill up the space i guess i'm glad that we have at least one good level out of this it always happens there's always one bang and there's always one stinker and i don't know why i think this taught us one valuable lesson you need to learn how to make a nice circle so no comment down below if you want a nine circles level made by woolsey no i had a great time with one of the levels i had a great time with sonic wow for like the first swap back when i was making the gameplay yeah this video is gonna be so skewed on both ends because there's gonna be like a three to one ratio right i've never like it to sonic woe in the building process because i added like three times as much stuff to never like it that is a way to spend three hours thank you for being with me today lake you're welcome thank you for watching i don't have much energy left sonic well kind of like drained out me uh check the links in the description uh check out lake's channel very talented creator anything else you want to say not really no all right let's wrap this up then have a good day
