experienced that he's a way making god i have in my life in so many different ways i have many testimonies that i can share and i know some of you do too but we have a waymaker one that even though we can't see the path that we're walking on sometimes he makes a way he's working when we can't see it when we can't feel it when we feel maybe alone he's still at work amen he's a waymaker so let's sing [Music] down [Music] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] man if you're in here today and you see people standing next to you or people around you maybe lifting their hands or you know shouting and maybe some tears but because you're seeing somebody god's done something in their life and i just need somebody real quick this morning y'all i just need somebody real quick give me a hand somebody give me a quick testimony who's it going to be alec go for it alec you know he just he was just waving at me quick testimony real quick over here leah run up here come on down you're the next contest just real quick and if you wanna yeah go ahead whoever i love you guys god took my shame away i'm an ex drug addict prostitute everything you can imagine god changed everything he changed my heart he can change anybody's heart if you're here he can do it don't give up hallelujah thank you awesome i'm talking about you're you're standing many of you are standing next to living miracles this morning somebody else real quick come on this now's not the time to be shy somebody shame the devil who else right here come on down praise god people god is good he will he will take you from the depths and bring you here and put you on solid ground i i was in a i was in a jacked up state you know and within a couple years the lord flipped me around and took me from dark places really dark jacked up everything addiction i was in bondage mentally physically cleaned me up and brought me a woman into my life a son into my life and i'm holding my youngest of four and and he he's amazing to god glory jesus is amazing he will he will turn your life around don't give up well somebody else somebody else i'm not quitting yet janet testify [Music] i'm just in tears from leah's testimony so i can't testify god is so good um i'm really thankful today that all of my kids and my daughter-in-law are all here with me serving in ministry at our church so praise god for that johnette lived as a hells angels for 20 years people she got no i'm just kidding i'll make something up somebody else right here come on up dust wow wow um it's just grateful to be here that's how we really sound um we've all had difficult lives we we go through tough times but god is the way just just come here just give yourself and he'll turn it all around just god bless you all thank you for coming it's amazing to see just so grateful that pastor had seen me as he was coming down the street because i was really really in bad need of a church and he seen me and he turned back around and out of the blue he invited me and i'm just so so glad god is good so um i just felt this on my heart to share that i am holding my miracle this baby took us two years to have and we had a couple of losses in between and my son prayed for him every day he prayed that god would send him a brother and he did and he's just our little miracle baby come on we have one tissue services two tissue services and three tissue services one more one more i'm looking for one more this morning someone in the back here okay come all the way back i'm getting my steps in i have a friend i prayed for her and she's here today at our church not to single anybody out [Music] visitors want to remain anonymous but not here at generations church all right hey give the lord one more good hand to praise this morning guys we're gonna take just a little two-minute break so if you want to use the restroom just real quick or refill your coffee two minutes and we'll count it down as we get ready to come back in here in just a moment hear the word so two minutes say hi to somebody elbow air high five or whatever and we'll be right back in two minutes [Music] for someone it's called being used hello it could be in a work thing situation you're not a real person you're just kind of a means to an end whatever the business is uh even in even in romantic relationships sometimes it's just you're just a means to an injury to somebody to fill some time or something like that you're not really valued but what if there was a 100 absolute guarantee that said if you give yourself to me if you give me your attention if you give me your heart i will never take that for granted you will never become just a number you will always be held in the highest regard and cared for in the deepest way possible what if someone could make you that iron-clad guarantee well that's god that's god let me ask you who or what has your heart a few weeks ago we heard a message called the currency of heaven it was valentine's day it was it was remember it was love my church sunday uh we talked about agape love that's the greek word for the kind of love that we are to show toward others it's a selfless love it's a sacrificial love it's the love that comes from god you remember that message the currency of heaven this morning could be considered part two of that message and let me set the stage for us we're talking about who or what has your heart in matthew chapter 21 verse 22 we're going to dive right in here we see jesus and what i like to call full messianic stride what do i mean by that well according to scripture he's probably about 30 years old by this time we'll read a passage here in a moment jesus is probably about 30 and as you might know there are probably about 20 unrecorded years of jesus life isn't that interesting we see him the last time we see jesus as a boy is it in the temple he's the son of mary and joseph he's dealing with some elders there at the temple where he's talking and they're like well you know wisdom beyond your years at about 10 then it drops off and there's about 20 unrecorded years of jesus life picks up the scene here at like age 30 according to the biblical timeline and just as a side note i thought this was great just because you might have some this is totally for free this morning just because you might have some unrecorded years in your life doesn't mean you're not going to make a kingdom impact come on somebody anybody ever have some unrecorded years well what were you doing from the age of 14 to 27 uh i was doing 10 to 15 in the cat no i'm just kidding come on somebody welcome to generations church i mean some unrecorded years how many say uh i got a few years i don't want anybody to know those are unrecorded years right well jesus had about 20 of them we don't even see his life from that young child to age about 30 where we're going to pick up the story that didn't stop him from doing something amen that made an impact and don't let it stop you either so in this full stride of jesus ministry this is where he's like coming into his own listen we see him in matthew 22 here we're going to read a second uh chapter 21 and 22. we'll read from chapter i think 22 here but we see him at this point he's full grown jesus okay this is full-grown jesus no baby jesus in the manger this is full-grown jesus and we see him teaching in the temple he has been speaking out against kingdom corruption he has turned over the tables of those who were at the temple for mere financial gain some of you are familiar with some of these scenarios i'm talking about he is sealing his fate he is headed to the cross and he knows it and the religious hierarchy are plotting against him because jesus is systematically dismantling their world he's dismantling their livelihood he's dismantling their system where they're honored and revered and lording over people and jesus is getting right in the middle of their mix he is radical he is righteous and he is rebuking those who have misrepresented and exploited the gospel the kingdom for their own gain they didn't kill jesus because he owed him money they didn't kill jesus because he was in a rival gang they killed jesus because he was terrorizing their religious system that had been corrupted completely and totally and here as they try to conversationally ambush jesus he drops a bomb on them matthew chapter 22 verse 34 but when jesus heard that but excuse me when the pharisees heard that jesus had silenced the sadducees they gathered together then one of them a lawyer get let's get the lawyer we're going to trip him up on the details then one of them a lawyer asked him a question testing him and saying teacher which is the great commandment in the law jesus said to him you shall love the lord thy god with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind this is the first and the great commandment and the second is like it you shall love your neighbor as yourself on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets now you have to understand the context here of who was talking to him who was asking him a question and what he just said to them jesus is speaking as the new testament is being written about the law and the prophets of the old testament specifically he's saying that every prophecy and every law of the old testament hang on two commands to love god with all your heart soul and mind and your neighbors yourself this response from jesus is infuriating to them it would kind of be like when someone is getting marital counseling and the counselor says you need to just love each other the couple wants to tear their hair out just like these pharisees and these scribes and these uh sadducees wanted to tear their hair out they want to say you don't understand this couple does it it's much more involved than that it's not that easy there are a lot of moving parts here right the counselor says just love each other just love each other you don't understand we got a lot going on just love each other it's much more involved than that it's not that easy there are a lot of moving parts there are a lot of factors here that you're not aware of you can't just come and say love each other and that's kind of how the pharisees probably felt there you're talking about the law you're talking about hundreds and hundreds of years of the law the law that we've scribed down the law that we've held in regard the law that would be held up and kissed in the temple as they walked it around the torah you're talking about the law of god you're saying the law you're saying we can fix this marriage by just loving each other that's essentially how they were taking it but let's talk about how powerful it is to love god with your whole heart and have a little illustration for you in the law there were the law that jesus is talking about the law that he said the two great commandments are this to love god with all your heart all your soul all your mind and your neighbors yourself all the law and the prophets hinge on that and they said you mean all 600 and 13 laws all 613 of them because that's how many laws we have 613 can you help me with that somebody gary stretch it out yeah it keeps going keep going there it is are you talking about all 600 look i just totally devil i rebuke you somebody help me i got i got it watch this ninja it's close enough they're doing a sound check this morning like you're going to stay in little spot here i said i might start doing cartwheels i'm that preacher okay i'm not this morning we're here is this on right and i start doing cartwheels in this place try to relegate me to a little spot on this get this done i need some room 613 laws and there they are laws about jealousy laws about infidelity laws about food laws about business and benevolence laws about honesty and many many many many many more laws this is how they lived it was you know their existence everything was measured up against these laws what jesus is saying here is that the goal of this document is fulfilled loving god with your whole heart and loving your neighbor as yourself that's how powerful love is love is the most powerful influence in the world love is the most powerful influence in the world loving god with your whole heart and loving others as yourself loving god with your whole heart and loving others as yourself will affect your life and change your life and change the life of others more than any other thing you could do come on somebody we've seen people poor endless amounts of resource into someone's life and it doesn't change them you know i was talking to a guy one time as a pastor and they were selling their building years ago and he was kind of guarded you know pastors he was suspicious of the other pastor down the street you know and and it just guarded and so the conversation is going and you know he's well our buildings this you know yeah we're selling it it's a wonderful location and all this stuff i don't know why we're just talking i wasn't interested in the building we're just talking and i'm like sitting there listening to him and also my heart just kind of turned towards this guy and it's like i said you know i said if you ever need any help with anything just let us know i mean i'll help any way i can he was kind of had some health issues and that may have been why they were selling their building i don't know if they were closing up shop or whatever but at any rate all of a sudden the conversation i was like i don't care what it cost me i don't care what it means what i have to arrange i'm gonna i want to help this guy any way i can i just had this thing and i told him that and all of a sudden his whole persona just changed can i tell you people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care christian earn your witness in in that sense earn your witness with people you're a christian great show me it's tight but it's right you know i mean so many people have been so hurt by religion they just need someone to love them right we talked a few weeks ago people don't need a friendly church they need a friend at church right there's a difference and jesus is telling these guys the power of love and they're not believing it who or what has your heart how powerful is it when god has your heart i want to look at this real quick here because this is a mind blower and we'll wrap it up i'm going to look at matthew chapter 22 again we just read that i'm going to read just the last couple verses here the two greatest commands that jesus talked about in verse 37 he says jesus said to him you shall love the lord your god with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind for the two greatest commandments trying to trip them up love god with everything that's in you and then he said that's the first and great commandment second is like it you shall love your neighbor as yourself on these two commands hang all the law and the prophets on these two commands hang all the law and the prophets prepare to be blown away now let's look at acts chapter 5 verse 30. i'll read it to you if you're taking notes there it's in your notes i believe peter and the apostles are going about preaching okay jesus is already you can leave right there that's awesome thank you jesus has already uh been crucified and resurrected by this time okay this is after jesus public ministry the betrayal the crucifixion and he's resurrected now seated at the right hand of god almighty okay and they're going around and they're preaching this resurrected jesus this miracle-working jesus this messiah and peter says in one of his sermons to a crowd he says listen acts chapter 5 verse 30 the god of our fathers raised resurrected up jesus whom you slew and hanged on a tree most other translations say you hung on a cross god resurrected jesus who you crucified and hung on a cross the word hanged here where jesus was hanged on a cross is the same word used in matthew 27 when it says the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments it's the greek word chromotomy it means to hang up or to be suspended used of one hanging on a cross used of the law and the prophets is summed up or hanging on two precepts how powerful is love jesus went to the cross in an act of love for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son he went to the cross on an in an act of love and when he hung on the cross out of love he was being an example of how the law hangs on two commandments love god love people when jesus hung on the cross he literally fulfilled every one of these 613 laws when he hung on the cross he hung on the cross like love hangs on the law the law hangs on love he fulfilled every one of these what a trip that the same word would be used for jesus hanging on the cross in an act of love the same word is the law hanging on these two commands when jesus hung on the cross he literally fulfilled every one of the laws listen do not think that i have come to abolish the law or the prophets i have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them matthew 5 17. the single act that single act of love has changed the world more than any other thing when he hung on the cross he was showing how the commandments hang on love what a picture can i tell you how to see life change can i tell you how to see the life of others change can i tell you how to touch this world and become a world changer come on somebody i'm preaching better than you amen and love god with your whole heart and love your neighbor as yourself let's love sacramento let's love people enough to give to serve to sweat if we have to amen and let me close with this you can have relationship without love but you can't have love without relationship so what do you mean by that mark when johnette and i first got married and i remember i had my wedding ring on you know why does a girl get a new wedding ring part of the way in the marriage i still have the same ring john ed had an amazing 112 dollar ring that i bought her when we got it was awesome i mean when you held it under a magnifying glass the sparkle and the brilliance and i had this band this it almost symbols like a little cuff a little finger cup now oh man the wheels are coming off the cart and i have my little ring and i worked at this metal refined ring i would take my little ring off my finger and i would put it on my little my little turn signal in my little truck because i didn't want it to get scratched put it there and then i get off work and i put it back on you know how many of you know come on in in 27 years of marriage i've reached down some toilets cleaned up vomit blood whatever come on i've been like an emt with this thing on over 25 years of marriage 20 i said over 25 honey stay out of my preaching hold your tongue woman i said that in church one sunday and who was a little it was me hold your dog woman that's where the little thing comes up and says the leadership of generations church does not support every word this book i still got this thing okay when johnette and i were first married i worked for a company uh where the owner was very wealthy and barbara's wealth was accumulated by a bunch of patents because they like make a patent on something little chainsaw apart or whatever like all these patents and the owner of the company is very wealthy if i said the name of the community probably 50 60 miles from here if i said the name of the community where the individual had a home everybody would probably know the name of that community it's a really exclusive community over towards the bay area so i got to know a little bit more about the owner i found out something about him i found out that he and his wife had lived together for years but slept in separate rooms and did not live as really as husband and wife the relationship was held together by you know some financial factors and business factors and property you know acquisitions wherever and stuff like that so fine we're not getting divorce we'll just be together in a relationship without love god wants a relationship with us but he doesn't want it to be about just a bunch of rules he wants it to be about love and he showed you that when he died on the cross for you jesus paid a debt that he didn't owe because you owed a debt that you couldn't pay the debt of sin the other day i heard somebody say online i think i was watching a video and it said um that the gospel is a great thing even for someone who's not a believer it's a it's a useful delusion because hey if it makes people act better because they're a christian great i don't want the guy next door to me coming through my window at two in the morning be a christian christians don't steal christianity is a useful delusion and and and i had a co-worker recently kind of say the same thing to me said hey man i mean christianity i'm i have no problems i was you know sharing and uh said yeah i know i don't i think christianity is great because i mean you know it's a it's great morals and this and that and so what about you though and he said well i mean you know i have those morals established and and and true responsible person you know so on and so forth all those things you know homeowner bill payer whatever taxpayer all that stuff responsible person i said here's the thing christianity is not about being a responsible person you have a sin problem when you're born you are infected and there's only one cure for that sin it is the blood of jesus christ that washes away the inherent sin problem that we all have i don't care how much money you have i don't care how responsible you are i don't care what college your kids go to we have a sin problem and we're born with it it's imprinted on our soul and the only way to erase it is through the blood of jesus christ and god says i want you as my child i don't want you to live outside if you're sitting here this morning thinking i'm doing okay living outside of the grace of god you're being deceived god has so much more for you just i i'm not even going to try to describe what more he has for you it's more than what you're experiencing i can tell you that i think we've all maybe even had that thought you know there's got to be more to life well that's god that's jesus christ he wants us to serve him but out of love listen we do this our world changes i love this last little thing here others will accept you for what you bring to them but god will accept you for what he brings to you he accepts you for what he can bring to you not what you can bring to him lord jesus pray in these closing moments would you just pray with me this morning that you would continue to reveal to your church to those that are following you your love for them what that means for us to not be people who live by a bunch of rules but people who live by love and that we wouldn't give our heart to things there are things that compete for our affections towards you oh yeah it's excessive pursuits obsessive habits different things person it could be an attitude or it's some sort of addiction come on there are all kinds of things that are that are trying to dethrone you i just pray that we would see as christians that the best thing is to yield to you that's where the fullest joy comes that's where the most fulfilled life comes is to just putting ourselves in your hands gosh we give our heart to somebody that doesn't even know we exist how about giving our heart to somebody that created us come on if you're here this morning and you don't know jesus like i'm talking about don't freak out don't get nervous i want you to pray a prayer with me this morning and we could all pray together lord jesus it doesn't matter if you're saying it out loud guys you could say it in your heart listen god hears come into my life take control of my life thank you for dying on the cross for my sins i receive that gift in your name jesus i pray amen god i just thank you that you're hearing that this morning from heaven and that you're going to begin to grow in people's lives who are making that decision for you may have made that decision before guess what you're not done calling them that's why they're hearing the message again today because you still are calling them the goddess people yield to you in this place let us be faithful to help people take next steps in their relationship with you just the next step you'll work it out but just we want people just take the next step that's what it is just every journey every adventure every expedition starts with just the next step so that's what we're doing today god taking that step towards you and making that confession i pray god that you just bless people as they dive into a deeper relationship with you in jesus name amen hey if you pray with me this morning and you want someone to follow but it's funny because in synagogues they won't throw away a piece of paper that has god's name on it has to be properly discarded they wouldn't just take us like that right there it's it's the living word of god it's scripture's the law but it's still the bible so when you throw it away throw it away gently that's all i'm saying that's all i'm saying well i'm thankful today that god's love never
