Games That Get Looting Right

well Christmas has come and gone and I forgot to give you guys this it's your present to say thank you for watching my videos over the last few years go ahead open hey it's me again it's it's me it's me it's me John what you just did is called looting A system that has been in video games ever since they added looting to video games from games where looting is a key feature of gameplay to games where you picked up a guy's arm and now you're hitting people with it looting is built into almost every modern game even if it isn't emphasized but not all looting is good good looting and recently I have run into a lot of games that seem to forget how important making it fun can be to player retention so today I want to talk about the few games that get looting right in God of War side paths often lead you to a terminal in which lies a tasty little loot chest the beauty of God of Wars Luke doesn't lie in the journey to the object or even the object itself but rather in the pure dopamine Rush that is busting it open and scrounging around through its innards from heaving off a massive lid to punching straight through the crunchy wood looting in God of War is one of the best ways to get a full sense of kratos's power while a majority of the objects inside might feel next to meaningless the sound from it the rumble of the controller and the over-the-top aggression towards the mate God of Wars loot chests a pleasure to encounter but Destiny 2 takes this idea a step further as popping open a crate while it spews out glorious Blues purples and Golds makes you feel a sense of accomplishment until you eventually turn the items into silver because you already have three of that gun but the sounds and visuals of it take Center Stage meaning that even if the loot is a letdown the process of receiving it always makes up for that and the fact that you could receive something excellent makes every Trek feel worthwhile in a previous video where I had horrible hair I stated that Apex Legends had the best looting system of any Battle Royale game and I still stand by that but I also stand by this it's a map the boxes open up in such a rewarding way and moving between them with a bevy of character abilities keeps an early game fun managing your backpack keeps the player engaged at all times as you can't just pick up everything you see making this system a joy to interact with and also the chess scope and that's pretty cool I think I think it's pretty cool but I'm tired of talking about big games I want to talk about little games so Stuart Little games no I'm just kidding Indies have some of the most interesting looting systems around because they have more of a need to set themselves apart roguelikes like enter the gungeon dead cells and risk of rain too all thrive in different areas of looting Excellence into the gungeon has by far the best actual loot as its pun-flavored guns and abilities keep me searching through every room to upgrade my equipment dead cells has by far the most satisfying looting system as smashing open its giant science lab jars has me licking my lips again but I I won't do it at risk of rain too has a lot of Loot and I will be taking all of it thank you even subtle ones like tunics and Sables are great to encounter most people wouldn't call this looting but that's Loot and I'm taking it so it's looting there are so many little details that go into making looting and enjoyable and rewarding experience from the loot contained within the parcels to the sound effects tied to the bursting open of the Sacred vessels looting alone can be a driving factor in the longevity of a gamer's residence within the game if it is done correctly it may go entirely unnoticed by a player base but a focus on looting can transform the quality of a game [Music]
