[Music] the name of jesus every knee shall be everyday is the father's pleasure we should call in lord o from the beginning was the mighty word [Music] from the lips [Music] faithfully [Music] when through death [Music] welcome from around the world to the national shrine of the divine mercy first we will begin from a short reflection from saint john youths then we will conclude with our normal devotions finally join us tomorrow at 11am eastern time for our first saturday devotions the heart of jesus is a temple of divine love built by the holy spirit it is an altar on which the sacred fire of that love is burning day and night saint john youths was born 40 years before saint margaret mary he was an eloquent and tireless preacher he worked very hard to spread the devotion to the sacred heart of jesus and mary by his preaching through his writings in his missions and by his example he wrote a book called the admirable heart of the most holy mother of god the latter part of which is entitled the divine heart of jesus in the year 1672 one year before our lord manifested his heart to sat margaret mary he wrote a beautiful mass in honor of the sacred heart of jesus this was the first mass ever composed in its honor with the approval of several bishops that mass was said for the first time on the 20th of october of the same year it was set again on the 20th of october 1972 exactly 300 years later in the chapel of the visitation where our lord appeared to saint margaret mary in this reading we shall hear the saint explain what the heart of christ is a temple an altar and a censor of divine love a reading from saint john yodes the heart of christ is a temple of divine love it is the incarnated and eternal love namely the holy spirit who has built this magnificent temple and built it from the virginal blood of the mother of god this temple has been consecrated and sanctified through the anointing of the divinity it is dedicated to eternal love it is infinitely holier than any temple material or spiritual ever built or ever to be built in heaven or on earth it is in that temple that god receives adorations praises and glory really worthy of his infinite greatness it is an eternal temple the center of holiness but the heart of jesus is not only the temple it is also the altar of divine love it is on that altar that the sacred fire of that same love is burning night and day it is on that altar that our high priest jesus continually offers sacrifices to the most holy trinity he first offers sacrifice he first offers and sacrifices himself as a victim of love the holiest and most pure that ever was or ever will be he sacrifices himself entirely his body his soul his blood all his life all his thoughts all his actions and all that he has suffered on earth he ceaselessly makes this offering and with an immense and infinite love then he sacrifices all that his father has given him namely all creatures rational or irrational animate or inanimate which he offers as so many victims to the praise of his holy father it is in this way that this high priest sacrifices all things to the glory of his father on the altar of his heart let us then offer ourselves to him and ask him to accept us as victims of his love to consume us entirely as holocausts of his love and the divine flames that ceaselessly burn on the altar of his heart but the divine heart is not only an altar but also a sensor of divine love it is the golden censor of which there is question in the eighth chapter of the book of revelation it is in that censor that adorations praises desires and affections of all the saints are placed to be offered to god in the heart of his beloved son as a sweet odor agreeable to the divine majesty let us then take care to put into that censer all our prayers all our desires all our devotions all the pious affections of our hearts namor our hearts themselves with all that we do and are asking the king of our hearts to purify and sanctify all these things and offer them to his holy father as holy incense um [Music] holy spirit lord of light from thy clearsh your heart [Music] come with treasures which endure come the light of all [Music] sweet pleasant [Music] light and more [Music] being [Music] if i take thy grace away nothing pure in man will stay all his goodness [Music] guide the steps that [Music] and the is [Music] them life with thee on high give them joys that never [Music] holy spirit lord of light from thy clears the last [Music] come with treasures with [Music] is [Music] sweet [Music] in the myth [Music] is [Music] [Applause] if thou take thy [Music] [Applause] [Music] will grace all his goodness [Music] [Music] will [Music] guide the steps [Music] forget [Music] give them comfort when they die give them life with thee on high give them joys that never [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] is [Music] welcome to the national shrine of the divine mercy here in stockbridge massachusetts for our first friday's devotion as we offer special prayers in reparation to the sacred heart of our lord jesus who is here with us now upon this sacred altar and as we begin our evening with our lord and offering reparations to his most sacred heart we begin with the opening prayer of invocation heart of jesus burning with love for us inflame our hearts with love for you jesus meek and humble of heart make our hearts like unto yours heart of jesus we trust in you most sacred heart of jesus have mercy on us all for you o heart of jesus sacred heart of jesus we implore make us love you more and more sacred heart of jesus i believe in your love for me sacred heart of jesus your kingdom come blessed and praised be forever the heart of jesus in the most holy sacrament of his love and this is the promise that jesus shares with us on this first friday he says to us i promise you in the excessive mercy of my heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive holy communion on the first fridays of nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance they shall not die in my disgrace nor without receiving their sacraments my divine heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment so in a special way as we gather here whether here in person at the shrine or in spirit from our homes as we are streaming this online wherever we are we are gathered together in one heart and one spirit here before the sacred heart of our lord jesus in the most holy eucharist his real presence his true presence here dwelling among us and as our lord deeply desired and requested through his revelations to say margaret mary that souls would gather and offer reparations to his most sacred heart especially for all the ingratitude and the sins of mankind that we commit against our lord and one of the key elements of this first friday is truly having this intention of making reparations to the sacred heart of our lord who loves us with such a deep and profound love and so we offer back to him our love tonight our desire to console him to make reparations for our own sins our own ingratitude in our lives and also for all the sins and ingratitude of the entire world and so as we're kneeling here before the lord where before his eucharistic throne you can call to mind an intention that you have for this evening maybe it's an intention of particular desire you have in your own spiritual life or maybe you have loved ones or family friends special petitions that are within your heart that you want to bring to the lord tonight that you want to offer to him that you want to surrender to him jesus says come to me all you who labor and are burdened and i will give you rest and he says cast all your cares on me and so in this moment let's take a few quiet moments and form this intention in our hearts whatever that may be may be one intention or many and let's offer them now to the lord in silence now that we have offered our intentions and our desires to the lord we just continue to keep him company to make reparations to the lord by our presence and our love for him and we'll take some quiet moments now to raise our hearts and our spirits as we will be led in song in musical worship to just praise our lord through sacred music and in the midst of this music we'll also receive a eucharistic blessing from our lord as well um [Music] longing for light we wait in darkness longing for truth we turn to you make us [Music] right for the world to see christ be our light shine in our hearts shine through the darkness christ be our light shining your church gathered today longing for [Music] peace longing for hope many despair your word oh lord has hard to save us make us your living voices [Music] through the darkness christ be our light shine in your church [Music] many are hungry longing for water many still first make us your bread broken for others shed until all christ be our light shine in our hearts shine through the dark christ be our light shine in your church [Music] [Music] as we continue here in the eucharistic presence of our lord after receiving his blessing and praising the lord in song we recall that part of the promises that our lord made to say margaret mary in these first friday devotions to his sacred heart it requires that we have a heart of repentance a heart of sorrow for the ways in which we have sinned against our lord that we have wounded his heart our sins through our ingratitude and part of a way of making reparations to our lord's sacred heart is to confess our sins and ordinarily if we are able it's best to be able to go to confession a sacramental confession and receive the graces of the sacrament and confess our sins to the lord and receive his forgiveness in the sacrament but if we are unable to make it to confession then we can examine our conscience make a thorough examination of our hearts and our consciences before the lord make a sincere act of contrition for all our offenses against him and once our hearts are prepared in this way and disposed and we're able to receive the lord in holy communion in his eucharistic presence and again it's ideal if we're able to make it to church able to make it to a holy mass and receive the lord in the eucharist in the holy and blessed sacrament but if we are not able to attend mass or get to church and receive the eucharist then to make a sincere act of spiritual communion to have this hunger and desire in the heart to receive the lord in his eucharistic presence spiritually into our hearts and souls and so we will walk through these steps together right now and so first to begin with a brief examination of our hearts and our souls and our conscience before the lord first we ask holy spirit please guide us please be with us illuminate our hearts illuminate our conscience reveal to us those areas in which we have failed to respond faithfully to your grace to your inspirations where in little ways we're in big ways we have turned our hearts from you and we could ask ourselves in what way have i placed idols in my life things in in place of the lord in what ways have i gone after gods with a little g that are no gods at all but idols have placed in in in and before the lord and i turn my heart to them instead of looking to the lord for all my needs in what ways have i been faithful or unfaithful to my obligation to attend holy mass especially whenever possible in this time of pandemic but on sundays on holy days even in my prayer life my daily time with the lord have i made time for him in my life in relationships with my family with those who are closest to me how have i treated them have i treated them with patience with respect with reverence or have i failed to do so are there ways in which i have killed perhaps with my words maybe somebody's reputation maybe in my thoughts maybe i've been deeply judgmental and condemnatory of others in what ways have i failed to use my words in ways that would lift people and encourage them and build them up are there ways in my own heart and mind in my life that i have been impure whether in my thoughts in my words in my actions have i been impure with myself or with others are there ways in which i have taken that which does not belong to me whether it be material items or possessions or the ideas or the work of another in what way have i stolen taken from others that which does not belong to me and any other ways that we've fallen short of being faithful to the lord we just open our hearts to the lord now a few moments of quiet now that we've examined our conscience now if you see before you on your screen this act of contrition now i can make a sincere act of confessing our sins to the lord o my god i am heartily sorry for having offended thee and i detest all my sins because of thy just punishments but most of all because they offend thee my god who are all good and deserving of all my love i firmly resolve with the help of thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin amen and now that we've confessed our sins to the lord and in this sincere act of sorrow before him our hearts are now disposed to be able to receive the lord spiritually in his eucharistic presence as we make this act of spiritual communion and thanksgiving together my dearest jesus i believe that you are present in the most holy sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen and now we're just going to take a minute or two of silence to just be in this place of silence and prayer with the lord is communing with him for a few moments of silence and now together we can make the act of consecration to the sacred heart of jesus as you can see on your screen most sacred heart of jesus abyss of mercy and source of every grace i consecrate and unite myself to you without exception or reserve all that i am and all that i have past present and future through the immaculate heart of mary your mother i give myself with complete confidence in your mercy and love and i beg you to look upon my offering so that you may use me for your own glory for the honor of your mother and for the salvation of souls help me to seek you alone in all things hide me in the shelter of your most sacred heart and be my refuge and consolation most tender jesus grant me the graces i need to joyfully accept my daily crosses to lead a holy life and to die a holy death in service to you help me to trust completely in your mercy and love and never to fear to humbly throw myself into the infinite ocean of mercy which is your most sacred heart through this weak and miserable instrument that i am may your mercy love glory and power shine forth set my heart on fire with the flame of love which burns in your most sacred heart and teach me how to return love for your love most sacred heart of jesus have mercy on me i put all my trust in you amen and the three final invocations dear lord jesus let us honor you more and more as we aspire to give ourselves completely to you in communion with our lady your angels and saints for you are our one certain desire dispel any darkness from our lives by the rays of your merciful love enlighten our conscience and lead us to the father by the wisdom of your holy spirit may our hearts never fail to adore you yet burn with zeal for your kingdom amongst the eternal flame of your most sacred heart for you are our one certain desire the hope of all our days amen and so we give thanks to our eucharistic lord for for your grace lord for bringing us here together for showering your blessings and mercy upon us and we offer you all of our love our gratitude and our thanksgiving to you in return all of our petitions all of our prayers all of our longing to make reparations to your heart and our very selves lord we entrust everything and all that we are to your sacred and merciful heart and now we open our hearts and praise as we conclude with the benediction [Music] r [Music] oh [Music] way [Music] oh [Music] oh you have given them bread from heaven [Music] let us pray [Music] lord our god in this great sacrament we come into the presence of jesus christ your son born of the virgin mary and crucified for our salvation may we who declare our faith in this fountain of love and mercy drink from it the water of
