Finishing the Terrace. New Viewpoint!

[Music] [Music] [Music] okay you [Music] [Applause] [Music] tun disarming and dismantling the inside's the easy part now we have to crawl behind the room against the mountain to disarm the [Music] rest super fun it's not the claustrophobia that bothers me it's all of the uh the nail sticking out M Bravo oh that good Spiderman Spiderman [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] I think we earned ourselves an early coffee break it's not uh the best weather to be enjoying cooking outdoors I haven't been cooking outside in a long time looking forward to getting back to the regular weather here [Music] oh oh hello hello no you I can't reach Batista it's a coffee break oh ATT oh yeah [Music] bra okay well my spirits have been lifted for two reasons number one the sun has come out for the first time in what feels like a month more or less not really it's a bit of an exaggeration but it's been non-stop rain for so long but the second reason is because we have a Terrace or the start of a Terrace as we've just fitted out the formworks for the concrete for the top of the Terrace the top of the new room and for the first time I'm able to walk around the entire space and it feels really good it's a lot of space [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] spe okay [Music] [Music] [Music] hey did you this is a very easy step to overlook but something that's very important to do and that is taking out out quite a few of the stones on this wall that we are attaching the concrete to the reason why is because the concrete needs something to adhere to as well as to sit on rest and support and connect to the house normally You' simply drill in and add rebar but since this is a dry stacked house that really does nothing if it was concrete that we were attaching to that would be sufficient but because the house is dry stacked you have to remove a lot of the stones to have enough surface area for the concrete to rest on it is always so fun to show up on property and there be so much going on I'm getting my first look at our new Terrace that's going out um outside of our bedroom it is going to be so incredible it's so large and the view is just absolutely breathtaking I cannot wait to hang out up here ready okay oh yeah [Music] right okay oh [Music] so if you haven't figured it out by now we're doing um fake beams essentially we'll have beams sticking out away from uh the tears that are visible from the outside but we're not running beams on the interior of the room which of course would be nice but in this particular situation we need um as much strength as possible so we are building out all of these rebar cages we'll be adding a ton of rebar um running across here um and it would simply not be possible to do the uh the beams on the interior as a structural element for how much strength we need to uh reinforce this hair and why do we need so much strength Heather we'll tell you about that later all the man so these guys were going to go around and um raise up the rebar cages that we've just built which I don't know if I I don't think I've ever seen them made in cement before I've only ever seen them in plastic um but you need to raise them up because you can't have the metal right on the bottom so all of the wood obviously is the very bottom of the cement and that rebar needs to stick up a good i' say an inch or so I don't know these are kind of cool they're joking saying they're caramels don't eat them can you imagine like how beautiful this is going to be to sit out here hanging out here that corner right there oh my goodness going to be I can't wait to get some really nice cozy chairs out here and maybe some other fun things that we can do outside to relax so we've uh from our travel we've collected some old Turkish rugs um for the sole purpose of repurposing them and turning them into a seating area and pillows out of them uh we need let's throw up a picture of the inspiration there we stayed at this uh hotel in Turkey one time and we took a ton of pictures and went shopping and found some old uh used up battern is that a word battern tatter T tattered I can't say English words anymore looked for some old torn rugs and then we're going to sew them and make it a seating area out of them [Music] [Music] [Music] get [Music] [Music] well we're going to be pouring 20 cm of concrete above me tomorrow and until it dries um it's all going to be supported by these supports and the wood so it's a lot of supports and then once it dries it'll support itself [Music] well hey we finished just in time just as the rain decided to come back so we've got everything mostly covered up and I believe we are ready for concrete tomorrow all right so today is the big day the weather is sort of cooperating but it is supposed to rain most of today we are pouring 20 cm of concrete which is 8 in thick over top of the roof in our new Terrace [Music] [Music] [Music] off [Music] b b goodness [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] well the rain refuses to let up but we are uh not letting us get it down mixing right through this cement I think we're about 30 bags in probably about 60 to go I'm not exactly sure but it's going to take a [Music] while Pio [Music] spee [Applause] Pronto bye oh coffee bread ready oh very [Laughter] good e fore [Applause] more people like as we pour this concrete we're making sure to vibrate it into all of the cracks into the stone work and all of the holes that we created to really hold this uh roof and connect it to the existing house [Music] [Music] we've gone through six tractor loads of sand and I think about 5050 bags of cement I've lost count looks like we're going to need another delivery of cement rather soon [Music] [Music] [Music] right our bodies are screaming at us but we're at the Finish Line one more mix to go [Music] [Music] well that's it for this week we're going to get all cleaned up thrilled to have the Terrace poured but also very tired
