foreign here we go well good morning it is a Tuesday morning late May and I'm on out on one of our area water supply Lakes this is a water supply Lake that that supplies water for several small towns around it it's about 135 acre Lake very healthy Lake it's a lake where you can use a boat but no outboard motors are allowed to be used running around on the lake uh what that means is that out of this 10-foot boat with my electronics my Garmin electronic trolling motor my batteries my basic gear here I can catch the same fish out of this 10-foot boat that somebody in a sixty thousand dollar boat can cash out here same fish under the same condition so come on out here with me let's go see how out of a 10-foot boat you can catch the same fish that you can catch out of a sixty thousand dollar boat right out here on this water supply Lake by the way I'm going bluegill fishing I wouldn't be surprised to a lot of you bluegill fishing I may hook a catfish or two two three bass because they'll hit on these night crawlers and little creature baits and stuff that I'm throwing so let's go out here and see what's willing to feed this morning okay looks like we got our first bluegill on here see how we're doing come on lovely little bluegill nice chunk and here's another one maybe yep good one right where they're expected proven areas where they bed every year they nest up in these areas every year and another one comes up actually goes down like the night crawler just throwing the standard little creature bait with a night crawler tipped on it but I changed over to this rig drop it down a little bit deeper and hold it still and they're out there and here's a good one feels like they're down a little bit deeper than I thought they would be big nice bluegill though uh so far they're down a little bit deeper than I thought they'd be here it comes man look at that big old right here it's a nice big one there wow that's a beauty what I'm doing this morning it's a little bit different than I normally do I'm actually still I'm using this for a search bait this little just a little tiny split shot I got some six I got something I think it's eight or ten pound braid uh have his braid about a foot and a half of 10 foot or 10 pound monofilament leader with a little split shot and swivel and that little creature bait I tip that with a Nightcrawler and I'll cast that to search that's my primary search bait but I've also got my slip bobber rig hooked up here because along the banks here there are quite a few Fallen trees with a bunch of Limbs that stick out in them and I can't throw that thing in the middle of them so I'll drop this right in between branches and stuff and out just out from the trees and right in the same areas where I'm throwing that where I don't want to get hung up this just drops straight down instead of dragging it back across it so using both of them to search this morning and I'm finding some bluegill and ready and I'm glad I'm having to search a little bit more because they're not they have so far haven't found them bunched up real heavily but this is working slip bobber rig and a little rubber bait tip with a night crawler to cast is what I'm is what I'm working with red ear coming on today they're just really showing theirself bluegill fishing the fishing today has not been fast some good quality fish coming out fish are just hanging all up in this little Cove right here and they're coming up and chasing Menace there's some black black head Road Road Runner with a white and chartreuse tail well I started saw some bass school and this is on the ultralight here I just put a roadrunner on here it's on an ultralight and uh I started throwing around where they're schooling here and look what we got here this ought to be fun appears there's plenty of them out here they ask people to actually that's on ultralights yep they ask you to take fish out of here under 15 inches [Music] so I've got a fish here got to be under 15 inches well under 15 inches he's about 14. caught that on ultralight now you talk about fun ultralight fishing for that right there and there's schooling out here all I did I just threw out here just one time first cast and called him so I'm switching over from my bluegill fishing for just a few minutes for a little diversion here with Bass bluegill yep yep yep yep nice nice [Music] foreign hit the spot here maybe this was a been a productive area over the last couple years a little bit later but looks like they're here right now some good ones too well for anybody of you that decide you want to take up bluegill fishing what you got to make sure you do is just match your gear to what you're what you're fishing for you're not fishing for big fish no matter the biggest of these fish are not are not great big fish these are you're looking fishing for these saucer size fish that you know are going to be ravenous when you find them in a spot where they're close to a nest or something they're going to eat and they'll bite just like that just as fast as they as you can throw in after them and uh just fight like crazy but and if you use rods and reels and line and so forth that match that size of that fish you can just have a blast with them you see my rod bend down to the water in here these are light rods and I have to use line here in this Lake a little bit heavier than I would just to fish for Bluegill because of the tendency of catfish and bass to also bite these these baits uh and I don't like to get broken off constantly but uh making sure particularly with your Rod that the rod is light and wispy and so that fish can run and you have a good fight with that fish matching your gear to what you're fishing for is the key to having the greatest time ever bluegill fishing they are ravenous they eat several things and that they will they will eat dependably anywhere you throw at them and they'll fight like crazy and you can catch a ton of them when you find them I've got the camera turned where you can see the cast watch how fast this happens yeah he was on there swimming I actually he actually hit just as soon as it hit the water and out they come beautiful fish delicious to eat and fast biters for the size of these if these things came in two to three pounds all the time here I'd have to use deep sea gear actually there are there are types of bluegill that don't exist around here the types of bluegill that are do run in the two pound range they're just but these are the size that we have in this part of the country that's a typical size one right there and some of these get bigger in here and uh anyway you see how it works good gracious well came back to a place and they appear to have turned back on over here well it's not the biggest Stringer fish I've ever held up but the bluegill today were big and healthy big thick healthy bluegill a couple bonus bass in there of course what you're always looking for with bluegill is looking forward to finding them in big bunches today I didn't find them in big bunches I went I caught all these I caught these in the back took me about 10 different locations to catch all these so I didn't find any just bunched up a whole bunch up in one place I think the most I caught in one place was six so I was catching them all around the lake in about 10 different locations but they're active they just haven't completely bunched up the water temperature was 72 degrees when I got here this morning and it's warmed up through the day but when they're when that water is 80 degrees out there bluegill are just all up on the nest they get up there and they stay there uh today they were just scattered but they are big healthy ones and uh I'm happy with the Stringer I got that's going to make a great bunch of fillets it's going to be great on the table hey go out and get you some
