hi my name is Dave Mackay I'm a professional metal roofer by trade and the owner of Mackay metal roofing we get asked a lot of questions about how to install metal roofs and I hope that these videos help you on your project today I'm going to show you how to install a neve trim and a gable trim for a three foot wide expose fastener panel the eave trim and the gable trim both protect the edges of your roof from water infiltration and they provide for a nice aesthetic finish to the roof so you can see that I've run the trim slightly past the edge of the roof about an inch I'm going to take my pencil and just mark the reverse of it so that I can make my cuts and make my bend what I'm wanting to do is fold this tab around so that it can protect the edge of the roof I'm going to take off the hem I'm going to cut up to the line here and I can remove the top and I'm going to cut the bottom to the angle of the roof here so it follows the line if you don't have a pair of seamers like this you can just use you can fold it around using a hammer you'll see how just finish it off and now you have a drip edge or a Neve trim that's finished at the corner and when you bring your gable trim down you'll have a nice finished corner that protects the wood from the from water now that I've showed you how to finish the corner of the eave trip I'm going to show you how to overlap two pieces of eave trim I'm going to notch one of them so it slides in to the other one and they don't blow around in the wind you have a nice tight secure fit on the fascia so I'm going to notch the first one I'm going to take one inch out of the clip out of the hem of the of the drip edge and you'll see that my snips are marked at an inch so that repetitive cuts like this I don't have to always measure so I'm just going to take this off I'm going to turn the drip edge over and I'm going to cut and I'm going to remove this extra tab and I would then now install this one like this using either a roofing nail or a flathead flathead fastener and the next one all I'm going to do is open this tab using a knife so that it can slide over the one that we just installed you can see that and you can see how I've notched them together sliding together and then we have a perfect join along the face and a perfect overlap up here on the roof deck and again we're going to fasten this trim using a pancake head fastener or a roofing nail so now I've showed you how to finish the corner of the eave trim and how to do an overlap here on this on the fascia and you can see that they're both locked in together which is going to help keep them from flopping around in the wind
