[Music] in today's episode we're exploring two incredible abandoned locations in spain first we're heading into the mountains north of barcelona to explore a spa that dates back to the 1800s for over a century many traveled here for the warm sulfur-rich water that was thought to have healing properties but after a catastrophic flood in 1958 the spa would never open its doors again after the spa we're heading into the desert region of aragon to check out one of the oldest thermal power plants still standing in spain join us as we explore [Music] so [Music] [Music] for the first half of this trip we really didn't get much sleep and if there was one thing i wish we had with us it would be a good mattress and while i still might not be able to bring it out to the middle of nowhere in spain i can have it ready for me when i arrive home to pass out and get a fantastic night's sleep and that's the sponsor of this portion of today's video helix sleep helix sleep makes premium mattresses and bedding that are customized to fit your needs and shipped right to your door everybody's different and helix knows that on their website is a sleep quiz to match your unique body type and sleeping preferences to the mattress that best fits you they have something for everyone and if you sleep with a partner you can even take the sleep quiz together to find something that fits both of you based on my results helix match me with the midnight i'm a side sleeper and prefer a medium feel something that's soft but still supportive upon receiving the mattress i was really surprised how well it was packed it only took a few minutes before it was fully expanded with my old mattresses i would have to use a topper to make it more comfortable but with this one there's no need for anything additional on top my mattress also has the cooling cover which has helped a lot especially in these summer months with your helix sleep mattress you get a 100 night sleep trial so if you don't love it within 100 nights they will pick it up for you and give you a full refund there's also a 10 year warranty and there are financing options and flexible payment plans available if you're looking for a new bed check out helix click on the link below or go to helixsleep.com proper people for up to 200 off your helix sleep mattress plus two free pillows [Music] looks like a main gate right here this is supposedly the most popular spot yeah in this area yeah so looks like spain has just as much of a vandalism problem as the u.s the pictures of this before there was any paint were so nice you can barely read the original sign now it's mostly covered up the higher up you look the better it looks though that bird tag up there is really cool it's a parrot i'm a caw when you get to that kind of scale it's interesting on how they got it to all be perfect this is a really pretty doorway i like this ah this place would have been magical if it was untouched vaulted ceiling this curved hallway intrigues me this is incredibly nice architecture it feels ancient we got classic american streetcar there's some honestly really cool tags for like uh graffiti art pieces yeah it's like every room has a really detailed mural some more nate details over here oh wow look at that oh man is that a floor oh my god it goes all the way through stairs are right here jeez let's finish just running the length of it on the first floor those stairs are going to just lead to right here yeah so i don't even know if we can take these stairs you could go across the corner there yeah there's probably another staircase somewhere shouldn't why not another hole yeah that's all there would have been light fixtures in the center here yeah coming from here oh this place would have been so nice oh upstairs really isn't having it [Music] for him here you can see the floor bowing oh yeah that's the ceiling coming oh the whole floor yeah jeez some pretty cool fixtures oh yeah just the bases this place is kind of gorgeous even with all the vandalism oh yeah there would have been chandeliers coming down in here imagine spending that much work on that and then someone comes and just draws a dick there yeah that's kind of [ __ ] through his hand yeah it's really dumb like that's like an actual like nice piece well i don't know i would say there is effort put into it but there's definitely skill in making that skill yeah for sure that great now this over here oh that i see i see your your quality right there this is high art it's a chapel yeah honestly this place does not feel like a spa to me i haven't seen any bathtubs or anything okay smelly in here hello todd dude where does that smell low tide low tide well it's the river is down oh so dead fish and [ __ ] it's the mud wow that's a hole and even the second floor and the third floor are all blowing in yep that looks like a hole to me do you want to try to go around it or not even bother probably go outside and then walk through it are there any stairs down there we need to find that room from the picture could it be one of the other buildings could be a different floor it could be the basement or the roof i mean look well lit so i think it's a higher floor this is just gonna lead to the collapse in the middle there's like holes in the floor everywhere here yeah there's no way it's this building and that's also a drop below me i mean this is cool but it's not all we're looking for tell us if we should come down yo this is it it's actually so going down again we're like deep underground now it's good it's building up to the side of the mountain so this is where the light comes in on the side i guess yeah oh the smell it's so bad as soon as we see the moon oh that's ceiling though i'm wearing this wow he has clearly never grown [ __ ] that smell it's literally the creek bed yeah there's another floor below this one checkerboard tile floors oh look come here shine your light in here this is where the smell is coming from oh god [Laughter] go in there stand right above the hole and take a deep breath oh my god it's the water it's sulfur yeah yeah but like that's way more intense than i've ever smelled sulfur that's the famous spa water that everybody came here oh my god you ready for your bath dude i wouldn't bathe in this if you paid me shower stalls maybe you're changing stalls and now we know why this place is abandoned didn't he say was radioactive yeah he said they found like uranium in the water he didn't say uranium maybe not radioactive maybe just literally what contaminated and that's what we're smelling so each of these rooms were like a bath yeah the tubs are gone yeah they're so small they are small wow the way the light is in here if i just block this one little yeah it gets so much darker changes completely there's like a well in the middle right here the ceiling is the best part yeah for sure there would have been chandeliers or lights coming down from in between the poles it's really nice so much graffiti though yeah it's really tagged up there's something cool at the end here probably like a big shower room oh look at this there's a tub it's like an old looking tub too one tub left out of all these rooms this looks like a big shower room here you have a light there's a two tubs in here yeah all right i've seen enough sam all right get your photo because i will be very sad if you don't make it to aliaga i'm not even gonna take a picture i've smelled enough yeah all i care about is aliaga this is too much graffiti i'm gonna take the one shot here and then we go okay so does this place have the smelliest smell you ever smelled it's probably up there in the smelly smells on the other side the stinky tofu in china and this i think this might be like at the same stink level yeah there's the whip for this trip on our last europe trip they gave us some like hatchback with a pathetic three-cylinder engine this time we reserved a wagon because we thought surely a wagon would have something less pathetic than a three-cylinder we tried to reserve it and then we got a pathetic three-cylinder engine again that gets like 100 horsepower but then they gave us this because you know they always give you the worst car they have it could have been worse but they could have not had a wagon at all yeah the space is nice it's 115 horsepower better than 75 in the last car but it's a better three cylinder germany so we can't even take advantage of it yeah no there's nothing to take advantage here at all yeah what was it this thing came but we can get this to like 250 no we struggled to crack 200 on the odometer really but the google maps gps was like reading 190 still [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so it's [ __ ] freezing here we started the day at like 60 degrees and now it's like below freezing but we made it there it is [Music] that has got to be one of the coolest exteriors of a power plant you can see [Music] the aliaga power station was opened in 1952 as part of a national effort to construct the country's first large-scale steam-based plants however the plant's location eventually proved to be uneconomical and it shut down after only 30 years of operation at some point the plant was completely stripped for scrap metal leaving just its hulking shell behind okay now that the light has come out it looks even more epic [Music] wow we also have all these mine structures up there to check out this should be fun i feel kind of overwhelmed right now because i want to do everything i want to get video i want a drone i want to take stills and we've got like 30 minutes of good light left so it's a race against the clock but this light right now is great this place is surreal ryan's going for the higher vantage point [Music] all the buildings out here roofs are completely caved in what it looks like the uh substation is pretty good shape they don't really seem that interested in seeing the inside because they say it looks blown out which admittedly it does look extremely blown out but i'm still trying to see it see how far we can make it on the screen so this is the main gate for the power plant are we stopping here i was just seeing what they did just to make sure there's literally a public parking sign so we're fine peak urbex laziness usually we always hide the car i already put my boots on we always hide the car but you know when you're in the middle of nowhere like this what does it really matter let me see what's in this little building first probably absolutely nothing yeah nothing just this tank on wheels officina just an old office what the hell what is this all gibberish math people wrote here to try to make this seem like a cool place or there's this legitimate stuff going on here the ceiling is really interesting this just looks like gibberish math to me somebody set out to create something that someone would walk in and on and say what the [ __ ] and they succeeded that's my hypothesis here it's all just so random when you see the e equals m c squared that's when you know it's just a bunch of [ __ ] i don't know maybe there was some crazy physics professor giving lessons in abandoned building smokestacks this must be where the boilers were you can see the coal hoppers up there i wonder if there's still a coal belt intact are these the stairs we have to take i'm sure i'm not the first to go up the stairs in this state of oh there's no floor okay maybe we shouldn't do this we'll find another way i'm sure you know this kind of looks like a turbine pedestal no it can't be because there's no gantry crane in here this can't be the turbine you think a turbine would be here with the smoke stacks and coal that's what i'm confused about i think turbine would be next door yeah let's see i just thought this looked like a tank it's probably just a base for a boiler unit or something yeah right in front of the smoke stack okay now these are the turbine pests yes dude they were tiled wow bro this would have been amazing like 40 years ago i don't even know when this was abandoned wow it's got like that hospital tile vibes do these stairs look passable these look a bit better i think seems solid enough all right just watch your steps there's gonna be a lot of holes on the floor up here this was the turbine hall the entry crane is gone even damn got some nice vines coming in this garage door is completely off the tracks this definitely would have been our control room imagine a bench board here and an indicator panel out there maybe that would have been the conduit room below us it's all sorts of torn about papers over here oh watch the gap record keeping [Applause] that's cool it says the name of the plant central teramica deliaga this is dated 1950 13th of may 1950 wow look there's like letters on a tile letters e or f [Applause] f r z dot z [Applause] f r dot z yeah i'm drawing a blank on that one they're obviously they have to be letters for sure it might be an e it's an e so what was the company electric electric electric cast something yeah definitely oh his daughter goes up yeah there you go that's what it is [Applause] here's where the desk would have been there's always that little pass through to the desk and every controller yeah god damn it how could they have left it they really went to town on stripping this one out yeah they didn't miss a thing is there a way to view out the side here yeah right here any details not much detail right here no this is where all the transformers and stuff would have been [Music] there's holes everywhere in this floor you can see some of the tubes for this spoiler still this floor is bad yeah what's up with the holes here they just didn't give a [ __ ] when they were stripping it they just knocked holes in the concrete you think maybe i'm gonna walk on this beam this is slowly coal piled up we are right below the coal hoppers so i would say yes oh what is this sign it's busted up but it looks so cool it would have lit up it's just a indicator sign shall we see what's up here [Applause] there's no way the coal belt's not going to be stripped i mean look at the rest of this place the roofs in here are super cool turbine hall overlook and then we've got roof spanish tile roof in spain what do you know i'm not as concerned by the concrete as i am about the metal stairs yeah i'm not gonna do those stairs looks like they're using two more smoke stacks right now oh yeah you're right they even took those out you can see the smoke stacks actually still laying down laying down on top yeah the railing is stripped jeez here's our conduit room [Applause] everything gone yeah this is just beyond stripped [Applause] look at all that pigeon [ __ ] oh there were a lot more pigeons in here than i thought there were i only saw a couple walking in here so i was only expecting a couple to jump i'm gonna freak him out again so i'll just flood to this room here's where they have all the old oil switches and everything look at that even the gates of the substation were interesting looking oh there's a lab check this out fume hood yeah this was definitely the laboratory that's that could be solid it's concrete oh or it is something like that you can see where it's peeling away yeah still pretty nice all right we're gonna head out now cause we're losing the last bits of daylight as we speak i'm glad we came in here it's pretty cool [Applause] it's just a main entrance of sorts i know there's one door from the outside i saw had some detailing on it it wasn't this one this is where they drive to service the substation i guess yeah it's this door right here check this out that's cool in the middle of the frame yeah oh it's starting to snow again you can see the bottom of that boiler right there as well straight up desert cracked yeah yeah i mean we are in the desert look at that cracked dirt look at the bases of these light fixtures yeah so er dot z was the company awesome [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] you
