what is the worst wedding drama you've experienced my ex-fiancee zack got with my cousin ashley two months after we broke up this was six years ago i suspected he had been cheating with her as they got together so quickly after but i never had proof until two years later ashley's sister showed me the evidence after they'd had a fight her entire family knew and it had been going on for at least six months before he broke up with me i'm not very confrontational so i only sent her a message to let her know i knew and then blocked her and limited contact with both of them i'm over it now and have since met a much better guy we got engaged last year and a week later zach and ashley got engaged now they're planning their wedding for next summer ashley recently reached out to me through her mom to ask me to be a bridesmaid when i declined her mom started trying to guilt me into accepting i eventually told her i would think about it just to get her to leave me alone they've since recruited the rest of my aunt's uncle's cousins to try to convince me to be her bridesmaid i don't want to but i feel like i have to accept do i just suck it up and accept long story short my ex cheated on and left me for my cousin they now want me to be a bridesmaid in their wedding i don't want to but my extended family are trying to guilt-trip me into accepting opie should tell her family that her presence at the wedding would do nothing but detract from the attention on the bride as no one who knows the family and their history will be able to talk about anything other than the fact that the groom is op's ex which will inevitably bring up the cheating as in opie should make it clear that if they want her there she will make sure everyone knows the history and that her groom is her ex followed by a detailed account of the cheating that should be enough to put them off the idea no one wants that kind of attention on their wedding day nor to have the attention reallocated to someone else no is a complete sentence and answer to an unreasonable request normally i would add that you don't even have to explain yourself in this case i would recommend that you reach out to your cousin and tell her no then tell her that she has to sell her army of pesters to back off completely because otherwise you will have no choice but to make your no very public with a detailed explanation of exactly why you are declining the invitation my sister had planned to get married in april but due to the global situation she had to cancel her wedding and she got married in a very small ceremony on the day she originally planned and rescheduled her big wedding i am also planning my wedding and my date for the last nine months has been october the 9th we had planned an intimate family and friends ceremony and then dinner at a very special restaurant to us october the 9th is a friday the issue arose when my sister announced that she had rescheduled her wedding for october the 10th which wouldn't have been a super annoying if her wedding wasn't three states away i asked my sister about it and she said it's the day she wanted and to deal with it because my wedding wasn't as expensive so i can reschedule if i want she's more important that hurt when i told my parents what she said yes i tattled they said her wedding is more important because she had to reschedule so i told them that if that's what they thought then they didn't have to come and hung up my mother has left me multiple voicemails calling me an ungrateful child and that i was overreacting my grandmother is now involved and says i need to get over it am i wrong you are not wrong your sister sucks she knew exactly what she was doing by picking that date your parents suck too and i don't consider you overreacting at all i would have told them not to come too you are not wrong opie i'm so sorry for this but allow me to ask is this the first time your sister pulls a similar stunt because it looks like she did it intentionally to deprive you of your moment until she was done with hers she's always been a bit of a spotlight stealer but never to this degree my younger brother is getting married next year and i am a bridesmaid along with my daughter who is a junior bridesmaid and my other daughter who is the flower girl there are 10 bridesmaids altogether two of them being junior bridesmaids so all of the adults are in a facebook text chain and we're trying to figure out the party and everything and i'm hoping that you guys can help every wedding i've been in or my daughter has been in the adult bridesmaids pay for the bridal shower this included decorations food venue cake favors games never once have i ever heard of a child or parent of a child being financially responsible for that i've always seen it where it's split between the adult bridesmaids am i wrong for thinking this maid of honor and i just got into a heated debate over this for over an hour now in the beginning of our text exchange she had told us that none of us are allowed to speak to the bride about anything about the shower or any problems we're having we can only come to her and her only she is now in charge of us after arguing about this and going back and forth i decided to leave the group because i did not want to have any more drama from this woman my daughter is not the only junior bridesmaid there is one other girl i don't feel that the two young girls or their parents should have to worry about paying for their share of the party the cost that the maid of honor is talking about is 600 per bridesmaid so that means i would now have to pay 1 200 for a shower am i wrong for thinking that the 8 adult bridesmaids should be paying for this shower and not including the kids you are not wrong how is a bridal shower going to cost six thousand dollars and then a bachelorette party as well there needs to be limits but on this now even six hundred dollars a person is too much she doesn't see it the shower is going to cost half of what the wedding does you are not wrong this is a ridiculous ask period it's possible this maid of honor is making rules without the bride's knowledge and you have every right to speak with your sister-in-law to be about such a ridiculous ask sounds to me like a way for her to reduce the amount of money she and the other childless bridesmaids have to pay while putting it all on the two mothers and the children update my brother and sister-in-law had no idea this party was being planned so extravagantly neither one of them wanted a shower that is going to cost this much they both said they were going to talk to the maid of honor and tone her back a little sister-in-law is actually very angry as she knows her sister wouldn't be able to afford that either thank you all for helping me my third wedding anniversary was this week my wedding was absolutely beautiful and i am so happily married to my husband with regards to guests i explained to my family that we really only wanted serious partners to attend us plus ones i.e spouses and fiances to keep numbers manageable and make sure we didn't have random x's in various photos liam messaged us shortly before the wedding asking if we could extend that rule to include his girlfriend as he would be the only immediate family on his own we agreed i had some vague idea of him having a girlfriend but given how busy we both are and that we are both bad at keeping in contact i didn't know war questioned too much the wedding was lovely and went off without a hitch rose was a very sweet girl very intelligent and kind and absolutely gorgeous and she and liam seemed like a very cute couple we spoke very briefly about their relationship meeting at university together for a year and a half and so on there were a few cracks made about the wedding giving rose some ideas and that was really it i had no reason to interrogate them of course fast forward to this week and liam and rose are visiting my husband and i for dinner and drinks we're relaxing on the porch a little tipsy and rose mentions liam's gift to celebrate three years together cue my surprise rose immediately realizes she messed up and liam is cracking up i say i thought you were together more than a year at my wedding and liam replies no me and rose matched up on tinder two weeks beforehand and i invited her to your wedding as our first date apparently mostly as a joke i told him he absolutely should not have done that and that he had really hurt my feelings bringing a total stranger along to an important event for me and for our family he replied that with my reasoning he had done nothing wrong as rose turned out to be a long-term partner and not a random ex my point is he had no guarantee that would be the case however he thinks i'm being unfair being mad at a situation that ultimately turned out absolutely fine and i'm not sure if he's right or if i'm justified there is no chance of me cutting contact with liam or rose over this argument just looking for outside perspectives and judgments am i being unfair you are wrong i'm bewildered about how you treat your brother like he's an outsider or acquaintance come on he's your own brother he's in your family he wishes to bring his girlfriend to your wedding you should have eased up and not made a mess about it even if it's going to be a random ex someday but end up in your wedding album it wasn't anyone's ex it's your sibling and judging people based on where they meet failed to ask who the girl really is when he told you about her and him being honest still when you asked him geez you sound like a strict teacher in my high school a story as old as time my female 27 father 50 cheated on my mother for five years with a younger woman currently 32 and he left my mother when mistress got pregnant it tore our family apart i resent my father because my mother actually loved him and she is still dealing with this even one year after he left her i stayed on okay terms with him because i was the one to pick up and drop off my younger brother at his place last week when i picked up my brother my father had big news he proposed to his girlfriend and wanted me as his best woman it made me kind of mad not gonna lie but i kept calm and told him no he said that what happened between him and mom was none of our business and that i should respect his new relationship i said i respect it but that doesn't mean i condone it obviously i would never hound him randomly about it but i don't approve of it and i don't like her she knew the whole time my mom and we existed well my dad was having none of it and told me to get off my high horse because i had cheated too and i had no right and i guess when i was young i was with this boy for three months i went to a party got drunk and made out with a classmate for a total of 10 minutes i felt so bad that i called my boyfriend crying and we talked it out we broke up i told my dad and in 10 years i never did something like that again i have been with my partner for five years i told him he could not equate it at all he called me a hypocrite and that he was glad to know who i am driving home i felt like i was a bit harsh he is still my father and he is not bad father i just don't want to be in his wedding i would still go but am i the idiot not the idiot you kissed another guy once when you were still a kid your dad hid the fact that he's been screwing another woman did it for five years and knocked her up the situations aren't even comparable your dad is trying to manipulate you by saying you cheated too the situations are not the same he's the idiot my stepdaughter 27 is getting married next month we live five hours from the venue the original plan was for my husband and i to drive there two days in advance stay with them in their little apartment with them and their three kids under six this is important get the kids ready on the big day watch them throughout the big day and then babysit them overnight while the couple stay in the hotel if it sounds like my husband and i more baby sisters than parents of the bride celebrating her big day well that's because it's probably the case my stepdaughter has a history of inviting us to her plan only to leave for hours even days while we stare at her place with them of course we were willing due to the circumstance we want her big day to go smoothly and three kids won't make that easier my husband had to get intense dental surgery last month my stepdaughter was aware of this the date wasn't one we particularly wanted but it was only what global situation that the doctor would allow well we come to find out the surgery wasn't effective and my husband needs to schedule another operation the date now two weeks before the wedding i pressed for my husband to take it because of the agony he's in we were both heartbroken when he called our daughter to explain the situation i knew my husband wouldn't be suitable for the drive in both his condition and with the global situation he also wouldn't be able to handle three kids in a small apartment surely he wouldn't be able to get proper rest i expected her to be hurt and angry but not unhinged a good solid five minutes him and i getting called every name in the book she goes on to say i plotted her dad against him and i hate her and did this purposely to ruin her wedding since no one else is willing to watch the little ones now it will be her new husband's job are we the idiots my husband and i didn't have dental insurance therefore we are paying out of pocket for both operations we've paid for a majority of the wedding we paid for her dress florist catering etc we also provided her rent money this month we are spent providing her an appropriate amount for a babysitter isn't in our reach she cannot afford a babysitter the groom's family is distant it's only rumor but apparently they were stealing and forging checks from his elderly grandma she's used his mom for babysitting in car payments she's grown sick of it you are not the idiot opie your stepdaughter is she and her fiance have a month to figure out what to do with their kids where's the bride's compassion and concern for her own father during such a rough time no less oh yeah she's more upset about not getting a child free night to screw edit to add the stepdaughter sounds like a typical entitled bridezilla not the idiot if she can afford a wedding during a global situation she can afford a babysitter you gave a month's notice because of a surgery it's not like you decided last minute you'd rather go camping instead edit it's also a hundred person wedding which you're paying for and expected to babysit at i saw your comments about the groom's family cutting ties with her she sounds awful real entitled momby type i like to preface this by saying i do not like my brother's boyfriend we'll call him steve tall he's annoying obnoxious and a thief he stole two of my fiance's watches when he was over at our place and the only reason i didn't press charges was because of my brother and how quickly returned them my wedding is set for may the 8th of next year and we want a beach themed wedding times go by far so we're already getting everything ready and i'm so excited except this past weekend where everything went horrible my brother has been with steve for two and a half years and he loves him a lot as i've mentioned before i can't stand him even if we discard the whole stealing thing he is still very insulting to me he constantly jabs about my appearance from my weight to hair to even my nails he constantly asked to borrow money from my family and he asked to borrow my car all the time no matter how much i refuse he's been banned from my house ever since the stealing incident and we only ever see him at my mom's or brother's place and now my fiance and i avoid family gatherings just to be away from him so with all this i am not inviting him to my wedding i can just imagine the comments he will make on my big day well this weekend i finally went over to my brother's house and told him and he had a meltdown he claimed that i didn't love him that i was being dramatic and vindictive he said this was my way of getting revenge i told him this wasn't the case at all i just didn't want someone who i consider toxic being there on my big day i don't want drama then my brother said that if steve is not invited then he's not going either and i said that was fine by me and left i really didn't want to argue i have already made my decision and nothing is going to change it well then my brother calls my mom who calls me she tells me i need to get over everything and get along with steve and i need to forgive him for everything she also said i need to invite him i told her straight up that no he's not invited no matter what then she said if my brother wasn't going then she wasn't going either so then i got really annoyed and told her fine then i'll just uninvite her too and hung up then word has spread around to my family that my own mother won't be attending the wedding so i've been getting a lot of texts and phone calls that i need to get over myself that i am causing issues over stupidity this has really been stressing me out and now i'm thinking i might be going too far with this my dad and my fiance are really the only ones supporting me right now even my friends are trying to get me to let it all go am i the idiot for banning steve my brother and my mom to my wedding not the idiot stand your ground on this one how immature is it that your brother doesn't get his way so he runs to your mom how childish two they know that steve does have a history of being toxic so how do they have the nerve to pressure you into being comfortable around an idiot i hope your mom comes to a senses if not i hope you or your dad can explain the situation to the family congratulations my sister also married on may 8th i hope you have an amazing time my young female parents 30 mom and 31 dad had me when they were very young there were a lot of sacrifices on their behalf but we have a rather comfortable life nowadays and they are both good parents they have been saving for quite a while and they finally want to have their dream wedding my mom has been planning this wedding for years and she talked about it with me a lot asking for my suggestions i'd say i helped plan the wedding with how much we talked about it and the amount of suggestions i made she incorporated a few days ago my parents told me they decided to have a no kids wedding so no one under 21 would come i felt hurt at first but they said they wanted to party like the wedding they had wanted to have before they turned 18 and i thought that was fair today they told me that they plan to have my four cousins all little kids stay with me at our house for the whole day so my three aunts can come and i wouldn't be alone i said i didn't want to be a babysitter after i was pretty much excluded from a wedding i helped plan and it was my parents wedding i was being excluded from they called me an ungrateful witch and said it would be my way of contributing to the wedding and it will be ruined if i don't accept it my father talked to me later about it and said it was just a day it's the least i could do to them after all they sacrificed for me and their youth am i the idiot here so not the idiot not only were you excluded from your own parents wedding they want you to do some free babysitting they then said we sacrificed our youth for you they made the choice to have a baby too young and you shouldn't ever be brought into that yeah if dad tries to use the all the sacrifices we made to have you crap again opie should shoot back with then maybe you shouldn't have had a kid so young you made the choice to have me meanwhile you're giving me no choice here [Music] you
